I feel like this year I’ve been seeing a ton of “it’s already time to get ready for Christmas!” and it’s a lot more that I usually am used to seeing in years past. I wish there was more of an appreciation for Thanksgiving and the fall season during these weeks 🍂❤️

CORRUPTED JOE AU MASTERPOST

Basically the entire premise of this au is that Dina didn't hit ZZ hard enough with the pipsqueak. It was enough to boot out ZZ but some his magic remained in Joe's body and corrupted him, turning him into an overbearing, possessive, short-tempered, homicidal monster.

Joe's sole motivation is to protect and care for the Patrol Team and the BB Brigade trio, as he now views them as his own kids. Unfortunately, Joe's idea of keeping them safe means depriving them of their freedom and refusing to let them leave Caliosteo. The staff leaders have been trying to keep the kids away from Joe for their safety, and are trying to find a way to stop Joe or get off the islands.

The reason Joe can even get away with doing any of this is because the park is closed to the public during the au and he has gone out of his way to steal everyone's dino medals (by both tricking some of them into handing the medals over and by brute force). He's also destroyed any other means of leaving the islands. Any boats or helicopters are no longer functional. VMM machines have also been disrupted. Only Joe has vivosaurs and power of any form now.

Speaking of his vivosaurs, Joe uses them all to patrol Cranial City to look for threats and any runaway flaplings. Ptera patrols the skies, Heracles the more open outdoor areas, and Bulgon any small spaces the other two can't reach. Berto, Seidon, and Argento are also available to Joe, and each of them patrols a digsite. Ptera, Heracles, and Bulgon view their roles in this as just ensuring the safety of the kids. They do not understand why the kids run away from them and Joe.

The magic has twisted Joe in mind and body. Most of his unhinged behavior is rooted in emotions that Joe already had, just forcibly cranked up to dangerous extremes.

A brief overview of the major changes Joe has undergone:

-Joe already cares about the BB Brigade commanders and the Patrol Team, even starting to view them as his own, and as such desires to protect them. Additionally, he feels guilty about not being able to keep anyone safe from ZZ, who he unleashed in the first place. The magic amplifies this to unhealthy degrees. Joe begins believing he needs to keep them safe from anything and everything at all costs, that he's the ONLY one who can do so. The kids need to be with him always.

-His anger is so so bad now. Joe already had anger issues, if him shouting at the BB Brigade and said Brigade comparing his anger to literal natural disasters is anything to go by. The magic turns him downright murderous. Anyone who Joe thinks is a threat to his flaplings needs to die. People who try to separate him from the kids for their safety are also viewed as threats. No one keeps Joe from his kids. NO ONE.

-The magic has granted him increased strength. Joe always had great endurance but he's never really been all that strong. The magic however, has made him so strong he can solo vivosaurs by himself. That's terrifying.

-His more monstrous appearance is a rather recent development. At first his eyes were tainted purple, with the pupils glazed over. Now he's began to take on the traits of ZZ himself. Not good.

-Much like his vivosaurs, he doesn't know why the flaplings would ever try to leave him. Don't they know how hard he tries to protect them? Because he can't fathom the idea that maybe he's the problem, he blames the staff leaders, who he believes are trying to turn his flaplings against him. The magic makes it very hard for Joe to reflect on himself. He upsets the kids, murders and attempts to murder people, but he legitimately thinks he's just a hardworking single dad trying his best while the world seems to be unfairly against him. Basically, Joe is existing in one of those parent simulator games where things always go wrong while everyone else exists in a horror game.

A rough timeline of canon events so far:

Canon happens as normal.

Months go by of nothing but Joe feeling under the weather.

The park closes for maintenance, most people leave except for the staff leaders, Joe, the Patrol Team, Scatterly, BB Brigade commanders, and maybe a few normal staff that are mostly on the other islands.

Joe becomes fully corrupted, unbeknownst to everyone else.

Joe steals everyone's medals.

The Patrol Team go to the staff leaders, who are all on Cranial Isle, for help.

The staff leaders see Joe's unhinged behavior and try to leave with everyone else.

Joe becomes enraged, and starts the cat and mouse dynamic between him and the others for the rest of the au.

The staff leaders form a makeshift base on the outskirts of Cranial City, making regular supply runs while avoiding Joe.

The Patrol Team devise a plot to get their medals back, with Dina raiding Wildwest Tower while Joe and his vivosaurs are distracted. Dino and Pauleen distract Bulgon and Heracles. Todd is used to draw Joe out into Rainbow Canyon and away from the tower (wrote a mini fic for this, try using the "#zesty tries to write something" tag, you'll find it faster that way). Rupert watches Joe and Todd from the sidelines, and is there to warn Dina of when Joe comes back. Joe ends up chasing Todd with Ptera, but comes back earlier than anticipated, leaving everyone but Rupert stuck with him.

Rupert returns to the staff leaders and BB Brigade trio, and goes to scout a few days later.

The Fossildig CEO comes to Caliosteo looking for Rupert. Joe lures him just outside of the city and kills him. Rupert unfortunately is a witness, and Joe finds him and brings him back to the tower.

Lester, Lola, and Cole go looking for Rupert, finding Joe's bloody bootprints. They assume the worst.

Lester, Lola, and Cole find Stella being chased by Joe, and distract him so she can get away. A rogue S-Raptor attacks, and Cole is left injured. Joe badly beats the rogue into fleeing, and takes Cole back to the tower.

Joe ends up passing out from exhaustion, allowing all the flaplings he took so far to escape. When he awakes, he becomes enraged and physically transforms into something more monstrous.

Dina gets held hostage by Rockin' Billy, who snuck back onto the islands and is looking for revenge. The staff leaders are forced to watch as Billy hurts her, threatening them into compliance with his Raja.

Joe, hearing the commotion, slaughters Billy. The staff leaders try to make a run for it with Dina. When Joe gives chase, Stella tries to distract Joe so Terry and Kent can get away with the injured teen. It doesn't work, and with their deaths guaranteed if they get caught, they cut their losses and drop Dina, leaving her to Joe so they can get away.

Everyone is mad and Joe gets one of his flaplings back. This is it for now.

If you're wondering where Scatterly is in all of this, he's trying his very best to be as out-of-the-way as possible. He likely won't survive if Joe ever turns against him, as he can't flee as well as everyone else, so he tries to appease the cowboy whenever the two interact. It's worked so far, but no one knows how long that will last.

Some additional info to consider:

Joe has started acting more animalistic, especially after his physical transformation. He growls, hisses, roars, purrs, etc. He'll sometimes move around on all fours, and he'll even build nests out of blankets and pillows, just for his flaplings. Ptera thinks he sucks at nestbuilding btw.

Basically everyone is sleep deprived, but Joe especially almost never sleeps. How can he when his beloved flaplings are out there possibly in danger and not safe with him???

Joe gets headaches when he can't be with his flaplings, making him even more ill-tempered than usual.

If Joe has other loved ones be at Caliosteo while he's corrupted he WILL try to dote on them like he does with his flaplings. Friends of his and romantic partners (ESPECIALLY romantic partners) get the controlling and overly affectionate cowboy instead of the murder one.

The kids know that something ZZ related made Joe like this and they think they can battle him to snap him out of it. Unfortunately they can't do that without vivosaurs, and there's no way in hell they're gonna try to physically fight him when he can kill them all with little effort.

Oh yeah Joe is also just bigger now lol.

Fossil Fighters Headcanons because it's 3:00 AM and I can't sleep.

Most Vivosaurs do not make good pets. Not because they're too wild or anything, but because they're too big or (sometimes) require water when out of battle.

This doesn't mean you shouldn't take care of your Vivosaur, quite the opposite! You should take time outside of battle to bond with your Vivosaurs.

The most popular Pet Vivosaurs are the really small Pterosaurs and theropods.

Tro act like cats. Really intelligent cats.

Dino Medals provide energy for Vivosaurs due to remnants of the Stone Sleep Revival technology they were based on.

Champions takes place about a year after the original Fossil Fighters. This is why Dinaurians aren't really common yet.

Frontier is an AU because that game sucks. (Actually because there are so many things that are different that I'm not even gonna try and explain it.) That said, the plot still does happen in the main 'verse, albeit with some fairly major changes. I might cover that sometime, because I have IDEAS.

Joe Wildwest set up a group chat between the patrol team, the staff leaders and the BB commanders.

He regrets this decision immensely.

(Dina, Stella, and Lester all independently entered the chat by saying 'WASSUP FUCKERS!')

Dina and Dino are siblings.

Dino won the Caliosteo cup, Dina saved the world.

Dina is a disaster lesbian.

She had an instant crush on Pauleen once she saw her without the mask.

She also got a huge crush on Lola.

Dina is a chaotic gremlin. Her Dimetro and Compso are enablers.

Dino is just. So exasperated by his sister.

Hunter, Rosie, and Duna are all in a relationship together.

None of them quite know how it happened.

They know it's Raptin's fault somehow.

One of the big problems that happens post-champions is figuring out what country will allow some dinaurians to settle.

No country has accepted so far, though they're pretty sure once one country does it, the rest will follow

Good thing the patrol team is on good terms with a princess, huh?

The sub-idolcomps, now that they don't have as much to do, enjoy pranking Raptin.

He almost doomed Earth, they're allowed to be petty.

Duna eventually gets a job with this verse's Wardens

Another princelyhero headcanon

Since Rupert and Dino are basically celebrity fighters, for fear of other people’s reactions (particularly Rupert’s father because while he’s trying to let go of worrying what his father thinks, it’s just something so cemented in him to do and he worries about this nonetheless) their relationship is secret, really only known among the Caliosteo Patrol Team. The both of them have mastered the art of escaping crowds to run off together, and Todd and Pauleen are more than happy to distract fans so Dino and Rupert can have time together in actual peace and quiet.

It's a BareBones Brigade Halloween!

I'm sad that I don't have something new to post for this year's leadup to halloween, but this is an illustration from last year that's still very close to my heart. Everyone on Caliosteo is here celebrating together, the patrol team, the former commanders of the BB Brigade, and even Joe Wildwest himself. What's more, it seems they all decided to collaborate and dress up with some BB Brigade flare (maybe it reminds them all of the good old days).

I remember working tirelessly on this one for a near month, and it was honestly a really fun project in hindsight that I wish I could replicate. I have the distinct memory of staying up all the way until Halloween morning making sure that it was perfect, and I wouldn't have had it any other way.

Since the image is a bit widely cropped and not the most "mobile friendly," here are some close-ups on the batches of characters scattered around Ribular Isle. Dina and Rupert sticking close together (as usual), Cole lashing out at Lester after finding out that he stole some of his hair dye (as usual), and Pauleen's Amargo acting snarky, Todd getting himself into trouble (as usual).

Here are also some WIPs from this one. This was the beginning of the phase where I started refining my sketch lining rather than doing a whole separate layer of lineart on top of an original sketch. It's honestly super satisfying, and I recommend anyone who likes drawing to try it out!

As for the lighting, when I do a shading layer I like to change everything underneath to be a solid white, it makes it easier for me to create realistic lighting in a 3D sense, almost as if I'm forming the shape of a sculpture. Plus, when it comes out like this before adding in color everyone here looks like a ghost >< (how appropriate)

One more thing, I made these little pfp icons to go with the Halloween vibe, also making one for Kris (one of the characters from my own Fossil Fighters sequel story). All of their last names are purely headcannons of mine, but there's still a bit of meaning behind all of them.

Being that I'm half Greek, I've always seen Dino and Dina as being short for Κωνσταντίνος and Κωνσταντίνα respectively (also because that happens to be my Greek name, where Dean comes from ><) so I think it makes sense to give them a Greek last name that may or may not also connect to something in my own story.

As for Rupert (still going with my own headcannons), both he and Kris originally hail from Bockland, a European-based Fossil Park that's just as big as Vivosaur Island/Caliosteo. Both of them act so posh and well-mannered, and I'd love to come up with a reason for imagining Rupert with a slight British accent. Kris's story comes a good 9 years after the events of the first 2 games, but she shares a lot in common with Rupert back when he was her age, much more than just being from Bockland.

Favorite side ark in the fossil fighters games?

Oh gosh it's hard to decide because two certain arks are my favorite: The Nick Nack ark in the original and the Princess Pooch ark in Champions.

I feel like they mix in just the right amount of zany with plot progression to feel both fun and important errands! Princess Pooch's helps with unlocking the Miraculous Fossils and keeps the weird lore of dogs being intelligent enough to Fossil Battle from the first game and Nick Nack's even ties in Dr. Diggin's lost sandals. Nick Nack also has one of the most memorable themes lol.

Favorite characters/character dynamics?

Dynamic-wise: Hands down, the BB Brigade in Champions. They play off of each other so well and (even though I think their writing with Don/Joe is flawed) I wish we could have seen them more with Joe after the main story!!! The Patrol Team even has a great dynamic that is very fleshed out by the end of the game. I'm even enjoying Becky and Sean's sibling relationship in Frontier at the moment. Also, I like Dynal's dynamics/interactions with EVERYONE in the original. The guy clearly brings a presence that makes you want to pick at him, especially with Dr. Diggins, Raptin, and Duna.

Characters: OBVIOUSLY Joe Wildwest!!!!!!! Other favorites include Duna, the BB Brigade, Patrol Team, Drake, Violet, and Sean and Becky are growing on me.

Headcannons?

TONS!!!! Oh god UUHHHHH WHERE TO BEGIN-

Stella is takes her job the most seriously but she also wouldn't she she's married to her job of being a Staff Leader. Joe can trust her with almost anything in the park. She's also a lesbian.

Terry and Kent are not as professional as Stella but they still take their job seriously. Terry tends to be more aloof while Kent would rather snowboard. They are Bi but don't really seem interested in dating as they are currently in positions that make it hard to date.

Dr. Diggins was probably really scared to see Dynal again after the Guhnash battle because Dynal is going to learn one way or another that he stole the Dinurian tech from that crashed ship. Dynal eventually is told the truth by him and just goes 'okay' since it's not much of a big deal anymore.

I have this very specific headcannon that curators and just fossil fighters in general who work in museums have to have an impressive cleaning record. The cleaning side quests in the first game and the Hare Club stuff in Champions helped fuel this.

Dino and Dina are fraternal twins! Dino even is Autistic and Dina has ADHD.

Vivosaur battles are really taught in school unlike much other monster collecting and battling games and other RPGs but rather it's treated much like a sport with scientific and historical roles as well. I much tend to think that Hunter and Rosie and other kids on Vivosaur Island are there since it's summer break. The Patrol Team each have their own reasons for getting to be at Caliosteo: Dina and Dino are home-schooled, Todd was able to tag along since he became friends with them for being home-schooled as well, Pauleen probably doesn't get public school and obviously ran off to join the tournament, and Rupert gets his schedule managed by someone else but he probably goes to a tight private school that's flexible with their students being absent for periods of time.

Frontier does make it canon that everything takes place on an Earth similar to our own with the same countries but I chose to believe France doesn't exist. That's Nomadistand now. They're separated far from other countries? Well I guess they have some wide rivers now for borders.

Vivosaurs can be kept as pets but there are many laws and risks that come with it. Smaller vivosaurs are easier to tame but larger ones are more challenging. They're treated much the same as exotic pets: Yeah, it's nice to own one, but it's not very safe.

Nevada and Joe have a rivalry going on that doesn't make much sense to everyone else but it does keep journalists busy whenever a fossil tourney is announced. Sean also ties into this but he's more of the mediator who was invited to eat pizza and watch a documentary with friends not sit awkwardly on the couch and watch as his two friends throw pillows at one another to try and counter-argument each other about the topics of the documentary.

Duna barely remembers much of her home planet but Raptin, being older, does. This is possibly why he was more enraged by Duna's betrayal.

I think Joe and Rupert should get therapy animals/vivosaurs after Champions to help with the body-stealing trauma. As a treat. Rupert should get a fluffy white great pyrenees dog named Antionette and Joe should get a nine-banded armadillo named Sundance.

Rosie gets really into fossil battles to the point she goes pro and that's why she's at Caliosteo. She eventually finds out she'd Bi and dates Duna in the future (Duna finds herself identifying as a lesbian).

^The whole romance thing was kind of just brought on due to the amount of thrilling moments with Hunter so both Rosie and Duna kind of fall out of romantic love with him but still have a tight bond that borders on family.

Hunter also eventually goes pro with fossil battling but prefers to travel more. Rosie and Duna eventually get a quiet house on Vivosaur Island together and Hunter also lives there when he's not traveling. :)

I think Holt and Todd should meet up and be friends. :)

Pauleen would get really into fashion design when she's older. She's mostly inspired by fire type vivosaurs.

Rupert takes over his dad's company and even learns to ride a motorcycle.

Todd gets into rogue vivosaur wrangling since he finally found his courage during the events of Champions. :)

Dina takes over the park and Todd is her secretary.

Dino gets to go pro at fossil battles since he was better at making strategies and vivosaur teams (Dina's top strategy is 'hit everything with sharp claws and teeth really fast') and he gets a lot of trophies. He also gets to be Rupert's boyfriend/partner. :)

Cole gets to go back to school and gets back into his robotic engineering degree (he failed to earn all of his credits the first time around and just decided to drop out since he didn't like his professors anyway). He eventually finds work at FossilDig and Caliosteo making cleaning devices. Sometimes, when he's mad, he threatens to make Five Nights at Freddy's real.

Lola has a harder time deciding to go back to school since she failed her medical science classes. It takes some encouragement and inspiration from Cole and Lester to help her along.

Lester tries to follow his dream of being a musician again and gets to form his own rock band! They call themselves the 'B-0NES' in tribute to the BB Brigade.

Joe Wildwest is gay. :)

Zongazonga's corpse is stuck in eternity as a tourist attraction.

Have you ever thought about Dinaurian lore?

Actually I have!! I've seen some headcannons floating on here with Dinurians messing with Guhnash's origins. I also think that they also traded with other aliens before they came to Earth since running a huge ship does take a certain amount of supplies to manage. Unsurprisingly, I choose to also believe that nearly every Dinurian can have a battle hologram.

I also think that white-hair can also be a sign of aging but those with white hair and pale skin are usually linked in some way to the royal bloodline that is King Dynal's. It's only Dynal who carries on the royal bloodline these days, however.

When I say 'big space ship' I mean big enough that the Dinurians have a safe gene pool for repopulation methods. It was probably initially made for the purpose of escaping their home planet months in advance since their methods of destroying Guhnash kept failing.

Hiya!!

First- The Injured Joe part:

 Joe got injured during a rogue vivosaur problem gone wrong. I don’t have all the details down just yet but it was a carnivorous ambush vivosaur that was able to surprise him and his team. He was knocked out after being previously wounded but his team was able to get the rogue vivosaur to white out back into its medallion form and get help. Unfortunately, he lost an eye, has scars on the left side of his body, and has a limp in his left leg. Fortunately! He is still alive and wasn’t too let down by this (he even told Mags that ‘now they match’ since they have ‘‘similar’’ scars now. this earned him a soft punch to his good arm.) and thinks the scars make him look cooler.

Second- Patrol Team. Where are they now:

 Dina ended up taking over the Caliosteo Fossil Park and Dino became her secretary (only in name, she considers her twin a co-owner since they do equal amounts of work). I still haven’t nailed down what Pauleen and Rupert would be but I think Pauleen would be interested in fashion design and Rupert would try to take over his father’s company and uphold the enjoyment of his customers and employees. Todd would most likely become the Fossil Park’s newest ‘champion’ maybe if he’s not interested in also rounding up rogue vivosaurs (Dina would also take up the mantle of Joe’s old side gig of rogue vivosaur rescues but I’m still undetermined if Dina would be more into it or Todd would).

Hopefully these answer some question. I haven’t thought more about it but I do hope to get more details down one day!
