On planes and in life, you have to secure your oxygen mask first before helping others. As such, teachers are constantly on the move and caring for students, which can take its toll. Remember, you can't help others and be your best if you burn out. ✔ Keep a daily intention journal. Set your intentions for the day and cross them out. Remember to keep it simple, and it sets the tone for your day. ✔ Set healthy work boundaries 🕓. Contract hours are there for a reason! Remember, tomorrow is another day, and be present with your loved ones. ✔ Meditate daily (don't have time ? If you're seeing this, yes you do) ✔ Read for fun (school seriously kills my ❤ for reading. I know as a teacher I shouldn't say this 🤫. The goal here is to read for fun.) ✔ Walk around campus & don't work through lunch!!! Lunch is a BREAK. Take your break and get out of the stuffy confines of your room & get your steps in🌄. #teachersofinstagram #selfcare #thatbrowneducator #browneducators #californiateachers #highschoolteacher #newyearsresolution #teachers https://www.instagram.com/p/CYA7GS0LWCe/?utm_medium=tumblr

This is not the official certificate (the official one looks boring and has a lot of educator jargon), but I can officially announce that as of today, I’m a certified/licensed single subject credential teacher in the state of California! Now it’s time to look for teaching jobs to teach people through the vehicle of music in a public school system! . . . #singlesubject #credentialedteacher #musicteacher #officialteacher #californiateacher (at San Francisco, California)

Gathering Thoughts.
It's late and I don't really know why I'm still awake. I think it has kind of hit me that I may not have a chance to secure a job for 2017-2018 (regardless if it is still related to teaching). But first let me catch you up to what Ms. Future Teacher was up to since I last posted. So even though summer of 2016 was basically over, and I settled for subbing with Sunnyvale, I still applied to any teaching job I was qualified for. I had just submitted one to a San Jose district on August 30 (to me, applying to schools that already started the school year sounded like trouble). The next day I had a call from HR asking me if I had some time to come in later that day for an interview. I accepted and drove myself down there. Once there the district had me fill out some short responses, which I only had 20 minutes to complete. The last time I had such a quick time to answer questions was high school. Anyways, I then interviewed with the principal of the school interested and the HR lady that contacted me. It went as well as I thought the other interviews had gone (which none of those ever got me farther than the interview process itself); I digress. Once the interview was over, the HR lady asked that I could get fingerprinted right away, just in case I get hired. I ended up in Milpitas in a shady strip mall (when don't strip malls look shady though?) to get fingerprinted in a mail shop. After a long wait (one person to deal with all the customers, mainly needing passports), I finally headed back to the district office to returned the completed form. Next thing I know, the same HR lady informs me that I got the job! You'd think I would have had some time to think it over, but that definitely wasn't the case. So there I was sitting in the same seat, in the same room I was in 2 hours ago, filling out the paperwork to become the newest 3rd grade teacher. As HR helped me fill it out, I learned that my first day (September 1st) would also be back to school night @.@ Anyways, this position didn't end up how I thought it would. There were many ups, but just many more downs. The biggest being the fact that I was not going to be able to return due to my contact not being renewed; I was signed to a 1 year temporary contract in September 2016. It sort of worked out as my school site is being modernized over the summer and everything had to be packed away. So I was able to move my things out without be hassled with too many questions from students and many of the staff. The biggest question now looming over my head is what should I do now? Should I continue to persevere in my teaching job hunt? Find another education related job? Take a break to find what my classroom should have and explore myself some more? These are just many of the thoughts I have gathering that keeps me up and wondering

Let’s elect Mike Levin for Congress in #CA49. Vote June 5th! I ran as the endorsed Democrat in this district against Darrell Issa in 2014. Because of this I have a strong personal interest in this race and am personally devoted to flipping the 49th. After looking at all four Democratic candidates, it is my strong belief that there is only one candidate who has the ability, campaign, connections and resources to win in November. And that candidate is MIKE LEVIN. Why do I favor Mike Levin? He captured the most votes when the party voted for endorsement, getting twice as many votes as his closest rival. I have followed his campaign for over a year and have immense respect as he has built and run a professional operation with hundreds of volunteers, thousands of donors, and endorsements from organizations and people I trust. The organizations and people I trust when selecting a candidate that have endorsed Mike Levin include the Sierra Club, California League of Conservation Voters, Democracy for America, National Organization for Women (NOW), and multiple seated congresspeople. The local Orange County Dem Party Chair and former San Diego Dem Party chair both endorse Mike as well. Check out Mike’s campaign website at mikelevin.org Let’s unite together for Mike Levin for Congress. @mikelevin4congress @SierraClub @SierraClubSD @LCVoters @WeAreCTA @DemocracyNow @UCSDDems @ABC10News @KUSINews @NBCSanDiego @SanDiegoUnionTribune @FoxSanDiego @CoastNews @KPBS @NPR @CBS8 @NYTimes @NewYorkerMag @WashingtonPost #bluewave #levinforcongress #flipthe49th #vote #progressive #standwithpp #primaries #getoutthevote #sierraclub #CLCV #CTA #CaliforniaTeachers # DemocracyForAmerica #nationalorganizationforwomen #SanDiegoDemocrats #VoteBlue #VoteBlue2018 🇺🇸

California Comeback: For Teachers, Invisible Scars and Wary Hopes
Bill Raden: Throw a dart at a California Department of Education map and it will be impossible to hit a school and not hear similar stories. Until 2008 most California teachers believed teaching was recession-proof when they chose to enter the profession.

The WHALE TAIL® License Plate sponsored by the California Coastal Commission gives drivers a way to help protect and restore the priceless resources of California's coast and ocean. The Coastal Commission uses these funds to support many worthy coastal education efforts, including the annual Coastal Cleanup Day which each fall turns out thousands of volunteers to clean our beaches and waterways.
The plate also supports the year 'round Adopt-A-Beach® program, the WHALE TAIL® Grants program (which supports marine education at the local level), our free resources for educators, the Coastal Conservancy's beach access and habitat restoration programs, and other programs to preserve and enhance environmental resources, sponsored by the Natural Resources Agency.
Visit ecoplates.com to learn more about what the WHALE TAIL® License Plate funds.
The California Coastal Commission provides careful oversight to ensure the funds that it receives are used for the intended purposes. A portion of the first year's fee goes to the DMV for administrative fees (about $15); the remainder of the first year fee and 100% of the renewal fees support the coastal and other environmental causes described above. The renewal fee is $40 annually for the sequential license plates, and $78 annually for the personalized plates.
