Chapter twenty eight, part four
Tumblr media
That night they had to get extra chairs from other places to create enough seats at the table for everybody. It was nice to have such a full table filled with laughter and joy. The children were all nice and talking with eachother. One big happy family eating together.
When they were done eating and Phillip and Alicia mentioned going home Evan didn't really wanted to go home. Deborah smiled and was partly happy with it. It meant that he had enjoyed himself with her children. At the same time it felt uncomfertable as he was the son of Phillip and Alicia. She didn't want to end up in a situation that he preffered her family of theirs. But Evan went home with Phillip and Alicia in peace when they told him he could play with them again soon. Deborah hoped that she could enrol her children in the same school as Evan attended. Her boys would love going to the same school as he did. In the mean time her boys were just as sad that Evan was leaving as Evan was that he had to leave. They liked playing with him and were just as excited that they could play with Evan again soon. The future seemed a bit brighter now that her children all liked eachother.

Chapter twenty eight, part three
Tumblr media
The children soon started to play with eachother and some new toys her grandmother had pulled from the storage. Evan blended in with ease. Deborah tried to pull herself together as memories about Thom, Evans father, and the old days when she talked to him in the grocerystore. She wanted to enjoy the moment now. It was nice hearing him chat with Malachi and join the game of Andrew, Judah and Caleb. They all played together very nicely. Deborah caught a look from her grandmother who seemed as pleased with the result of putting the brothers together for the first time. Deborah had to fight tears on a regular basis that afternoon.
Tumblr media
Before diner was ready, Alicia and Phillip arrived to join them before taking Evan home. Deborah enjoyed catching up with her uncle and aunt. Altough it was weird to see them at first it was soon as it always had been between them. It was funny to notice that Phillip and Alicia had trouble keeping her children apart. They all looked alike so much.

Chapter twenty eight, part two
Tumblr media
Finaly was the moment that her grandmother and Evan walked through the door. Deborah walked with a calm tred to her son and welkomed him with the words 'hello Evan, nice to see you after al these years'. Inside her was she everything except calm. But Evan smiled back to her and said 'hi'. Deborah told Evan and her own children there was thee with cookies in the kitchen and soon after everybody went as fast as they could to the kitchen.
Tumblr media
It wasn't for long until they all sat at the table to drink their tea and eat their cookie. Deborah started to relax when she saw her oldest son between her other children like they had been brothers living together all this time. Her grandmother started asking questions about Evans schoolday and he politely answered them. Andrew was the first to ask about school as he only knew the school she had taught him. Evan was first surprised but when she told him her children didn't go to school he started to tell them about it very enthoustic. Suddenly she saw Thom in him. Deborah saw Andrews face getting more and more happy. She knew that her son now had one desire and that was to also go to school.

Chapter twenty seven, part three
Tumblr media
At the dinertable that night, Deborah heared all the stories from her children about what they did with her grandmother. They all had started to call her grandma too, just as Deborah. And Deborahs grandmother proudly answered them with that name. No bigger smile on Deborahs face as she watched her grandmother be one. They baked cookies together and did games together. Her grandmother had been looking through all the old stuff to find some old toys she still had from when Phillip was small. The children were very happy with their new 'old toys'.
After diner they brought the children to their beds with the three of them. Just as the day before. The exciment of the children about their greatgrandparents helping them in their beds was precious to see. Deborah had to hold back tears of happnines a few times. She thanked God in her mind.

Chapter twenty six, part four
Tumblr media
Soon after her grandmother went to the kitchen to check on the food. She promised she would cook more so they could all eat together. Deborah didn't even need to ask if they could eat with them. It was already part of the plan. In the mean time, her grandfather was greeting his greatgrandchildren. They were all very nice to him and Deborah was once again proud at them and thankful for such a wonderful set of grandparents.
Tumblr media
That night they all eat together at the big table in the livingroom. It was a delight hearing her children talk about all the things they saw and experienced. Her grandparents were very interesed in what her children were talking about. Even if it were one of the younger ones with a limited vocabulary. They listend and reacted and that was enough.

Chapter twenty six, part three
Tumblr media
While standing there with her grandmother and children, Deborah started to smell the delicious smell that came from the kitchen. Her grandmother was making something delicious. Now she was really back at their place. Then she saw her grandfather coming down the stairs. When he saw her a big smile came on his face. Deborah walked towards him and gave him a big hug.
Tumblr media
Her grandmother had taken Camilla from her and was already buzy talking with the others. It didn't take long for her children to start telling all the stories from their day traveling to her grandparents. Seeing her grandparents interact with her children made Deborah tear up a little once again. She was relieved by the warm welcome she recieved from her grandparents. Seeing her children being so nice with them was a gift on top of that.

Chapter twenty six, part two
Tumblr media
The door opened and Deborah saw her grandmother. She was just the same as years ago, a little bit older with grey hair instead of her brown hair she used to have. The suprising face she had made Deborah think she recognised her. Deborah saw her looking down all of her children standing around her. After that she did a step backwards so they could come in. Deborah was relieved to see her grandmother letting her in. At least they could take a moment of rest at their place before trying to find a place to sleep that night.
Tumblr media
The children were looking around the house while Deborah got hugged by her grandmother. Deborah got a tear in her eye and she saw by the look on her grandmothers face that she was touched too to see her after all this time. Deborah had to be firm for her self otherwise she would have started crying and might have not ended that night.

Chapter twenty six, part one
Tumblr media
Finaly, after a long trip, Deborah stood with her children before the appartment building her grandparents used to live in. She looked around the neighborhood. So many days she had walked around to pass the time or think. She knew the first time she had walked there with her grandfather who showed her everything. Now she walked there with her children. It was weird to think about it.
Tumblr media
They walked inside, took the elevator upstairs and stood for the door she had entered so many times. She hadn't explained yet where they were going to not confuse the children or disappoint them. Now that they were close she didn't know what to say anymore. Judah asked who lived behind the door. Deborah was quiet and pressed the doorbel. The tension she felt was almost unbearable.

Chapter twenty five, part eight
Tumblr media
Deborah walked towards a taxidriver. They couldn't fit in a taxi with all of them. Besides, she didn't have any seats for her children to sit in while in a car. They had to take the bus. But Deborah had a problem. She had always driven with her grandparents everywhere. She knew the way but not how to get there with the bus. Nor did she know the streatname or part of town. She needed to know more before she could figure out which bus to take. A taxidriver might know where she had to go.
She found a female taxidriver who wanted to help her out. Deborah explained her problem to the taxidriver who took out her phone to look at the map. Deborah explained how you would get to her grandparents apparement. It didn't take long until the taxidriver showed her the building she recognised. The lady even knew how she had to get there with the bus. She didn't seem to mind that Deborah didn't want to take her taxi. Once again Deborah thanked the Lord in her head for his grace.
Then they stood by the bus stop, waiting until the bus would come. While waiting her children starting to become fidgety. It was a long day for them. Deborah started to panic about what she had to do when her grandparents weren't home, didn't live there anymore or didn't want to let her in. Her children had to sleep somewhere tonight.

Chapter twenty five, part seven
Tumblr media
Later that afternoon they arrived at the trainstation of the city Deborahs grandparents lived in. Deborah wasn't stressed as much as earlier while unloading from the train. They didn't need to catch another one. They could walk out of the station any time they wanted.
While walking out the trainstation to the square Deborah remembered how she walked there years ago on her own looking for her grandmother. Now her grandmother didn't know she would come. The square wasn't changed much. It seemed kind of familiar to her. It felt a bit like coming home. Her children looked and looked at all the different things there were to see. They started to ask her question were they would be going to now. Deborah didn't answer immediatly. She took it all in too, just like the children, before deciding what her next step would be.

Chapter twenty five, part two
Tumblr media
In a hurry, Deborah, packed all the bags for her and the children. She put clothes for all of them in them and some toys for the children to play with, some food for their trip and put them in the car with her children. She ran back inside to write a note for Anna:
Dear Anna, Thank you for all your care for me and the children. We are on a little trip. Go back home, we will be fine. Love, Deborah
Then she ran to her closet and took the stuff she had from Evan from way back in her closet. Then she ran back to the car and drove away. Away from her house. Away from the village she lived in, had grown up in. She drove through the country to the nearest big city with a train station. Neat the station she parked the car. She took out the bags from the bag of the car. She orded Andrew to take Camilla from her carseat and Malachi to help Israel. She helped the other children herself. Then they all had to come after her while she walked towards the trainstation. She bought tickets for all of them. Deborah was glad she still remembered the city her grandparents lived in.

Chapter twenty four, part two
Tumblr media
After waiting a few more minutes Deborah decided it was time for them to go eat. Then Aidan had to be angry for not waiting. He was late and that was it. She called everybody to come at the table and put down the food.
Aidan was still not home when they were all done eating. She read a story from the childrensbible. Aidan didn't want her to do that after diner but when he wasn't around she made the rules. He wouldn't know it after all. She cleaned up afterwards on her own and then started to bring the children to their beds. One by one she changed them and put them down.
Tumblr media
Israel was already in his crib when she was reading a little goodnight story to Joel and Priscilla. In the middle of the story the doorbell rang. Deborah sighted. That was goodbye to a peacefull night routine. And therefor a goodbye to having the children in their bed on time. She told them to wait as she stood up to open the door for whoever was at the front door waiting for her to answer the door.

Chapter twenty three, part five
Tumblr media
Deborah took it easy the next morning. They put away all the presents her children had recieved before getting into any schoolwork. Back in the day helping her siblings with schoolwork was tough. Now that she had her own children it was still a bit tough but with the organisation. She didn't have a child old enough to watch the little ones while she was buzy teaching. The matter her children had to learn was easy. Andrew was, as the oldest, the most advanced. But she had grown with him as he got older. That was a way more comfortable way of starting to teach as in the old days back at home. She always tried new techniks to teach her children the matter they had to learn. Making it fun made it all easier. For her, the older ones but also the younger ones. They could parcipate in their own way in the fun. Most of the time she taught them to play while she was buzy teaching. Israel was still too young to comprihend it but he would learn it just like the others had done.
Tumblr media
Whenever they were done it was always a big relieve, for the children both young and old, but also for her. The biggest task of the day was done. Now she could do the other stuff, the laundry, groceries or cooking. Ofcourse spending time with the children was also part of the day. But with every child she got the time she got to spend with them was even more slimmed down. She hated that.

Chapter twenty three, part four
Tumblr media
After such a nice afternoon with her family, even though her grandfather had passed away and they would all see eachother later that week at his funeral, Deborah walked with Israel on her hip straigt to the bedroom of her youngest children. They were all tired. Help from Aidan wasn't on the list of expectations. Deborah was used to doing it all alone. She had her strategy and her children all very well knew what was to be expected from them. They all learned pretty quickly that they had to wait sometimes.
When she had all her children in the beds Deborah went straight to her own bed. She was also tired after such a long afternoon filled with emotions. Tomorrow would be another day she had to do with all her children while Aidan worked. Maybe she also had to do some stuff for the funeral. Although Anna had promised her that she had to take her rest. If one person knew how huge her burden was it was her. Anna, as the oldest, had always been in charge of the younger once. Even when she was just little herself. Deborah, as the fourth daughter of her parents wasn't used as such until later. Years later she now had many children while Anna was still at home, single, taking care of the younger ones.
