Stuck On You - Cale Makar
Summary: What started as a friendship between you and Cale takes a turn during one of the best summer vacations of your life - a week in a campsite with your new friends from Colorado.
A/N: A self-indulgent Cale fic, who would have thought lmao. Definitely not my best work but I hope you enjoy!
Word Count: 5k
Warnings: a couple swear words, mentions of break-up
Summer. Summer held something you couldn’t quite place. Maybe it was the road trips with music blasting from your car’s speakers, or the endless nights spent drinking cheap beers with strangers while sitting on docks. Maybe it was the seasonal loves, the ones you’d talk about with your friends after coming home, or maybe it was the memories.
Summer had always been something you had never missed, no matter how hard school got, or how good your job paid people to stay during the hottest months of the year; and, in Colorado, it wasn’t any different.
You were gasping for breath when you finally reached the perfect spot for camping, your backpack heavy on your shoulders as your friends walked past you. The excited giggles that left their lips joined the sound of birds chirping as they pushed their own belongings on the ground.
“Oh my God,” Johanna laughed, Andre’s arm wrapped around her shoulders as she looked around the empty side of the forest your getaway was going to take place in. “This place is beautiful,”
“It is,” Sydney said from beside her, eyes cast on her bag as she started to take some stuff out.
You were still taking the beautiful view in, a smile on your lips as you realized that summer was finally starting. A new summer, you thought, with new friends and a new spot.
“Y/N, just come here already!” Andre yelled from the distance, pushing you out of your trance. “Your tent is not gonna build itself,”
“I’m coming,” you giggled, jokingly rolling your eyes your friend’s way as you pushed your backpack down your shoulders, looking around for an empty space for yourself.
“I’m here-”
The breathless words were mumbled behind you, making you turn around quickly to find a flushed face. Cale’s cheeks were their usual dark shade of red, sweat lining his forehead as he tried to gain back his breathing.
“Oh- hi, Cale,” you smiled, heart fluttering when your eyes met his face. “You doing okay?”
“I was a little late,” he mumbled, waving JT’s way before his eyes gently settled on you. It seemed like he had realized you were there in front of him just then, his body tensing as a small smile formed on his lips. “Hi, Y/N,”
“Oh my God,” Nate huffed. “I’ll literally let the two of you sleep with the bears if you don’t start with the tents,”
“Fine, fine. You guys are annoying as hell,” you mumbled, brushing past him to reach one of the last two empty spots, throwing the bag that held your tent on the ground. The paper that slipped out of the opened zipper was filled with instructions, the words so small you almost struggled to read through them. If it wasn’t already difficult enough, the drawings explaining how to set up the tent weren’t helping, either.
You were just starting to understand something when your friends’ loud laughter filled your ears, along with the sound of bottles of beer being opened. You laughed to yourself, taking one of the many thin poles in your hands as you tried to figure out where it was supposed to go, one of your palms burying itself in your hair.
You had never been the greatest at building things, and you weren’t surprised when you grew close to calling one of the guys and ask for their help. Their tents had been built in less than half an hour, helping you prop up yours wasn’t going to be too difficult. Right?
“Here, give it to me. I’ll help you,” the familiar voice snapped you out of your thoughts, as deep as you remembered it to be. Cale was standing beside you, arms folded over his chest as he gave your work a quick look, a teasing smirk on his lips. “Never been camping?”
“Not really,” you giggled awkwardly, handing him the item in your hand as he figured the mess out. His feet carried him to the left side of the tent, sliding the first part of the tube in its place.
“Alright, go on the other side,”
With Cale’s help, building a tent had never been easier. He knew what to do and where to start, he honestly made it look easy. Your shelter was ready after just a couple of minutes, and you found yourself smiling Cale’s way as soon as he mumbled a quick ‘we’re done’.
“Really?!”
“Yeah,” he chuckled, taking his place by your side again as the two of you gave the results one last look. “Looks better than mine down there,”
You giggled, turning around to wrap an arm around him, pulling him in a quick hug. “Thank you so much,” you said, pushing a stray hair out of your eyesight. “Wouldn’t have made it, without you,”
“You’re welcome,” Cale said rather rushedly, his cheeks blushing slightly. You weren’t able to see the way he flushed, though, turning around way too quickly to unpack your bag and getting the last few things for your shelter out.
As you pushed your phone out of your pocket, you realized just then how messily the butterflies in your stomach were dancing. And it was all because of Cale.
-
The sounds of the fireplace were comforting you as everyone enjoyed the first night of the summer together with a beer in hand. Loud laughter was coming from the Avalanche players, and you could hear a few laughs and giggles coming from your own friends, too.
“I can’t believe they gave you a penalty, man,” Tyson admitted, referring to Nathan’s last call on the ice that cost the team a power-play goal. “It was a clean hit and we all saw that,”
“Yeah, man,” EJ agreed, tipping his head back as he finished his beer.
“Call was ridiculous,” Nate agreed, shrugging slightly to signal the end of the conversation before letting an arm wrap around his girlfriend. “What have you been up to, Y/N? You’re the only one we don’t see too often,”
You chuckled at his words, shaking your head as you swallowed the last piece of s’more in your mouth. “Just been working, trying to get a promotion,”
“You go, girl,” Johanna cheered, making you laugh. “And Christian?”
The laughter left your body as soon as your ex was mentioned, the last words of your final argument repeating themselves in your mind. “Christian?” Was all you were able to mumble, eyes cast on the fire as you buried your hands in the pockets of your hoodie.
“Your boyfriend,” Susanna stated, making you chuckle out bitterly.
“Well, ex-boyfriend,” you sighed, shrugging when you looked up to see a few shocked faces. “Broke up a few months ago, now,”
“And you didn’t tell us?!” Mikko yelled, his voice loud over the mixed words of shock from your friends.
“Sorry,” you mumbled, casting your eyes to your lap as everyone kept talking, slowly starting to express the way they all almost despised your ex. Nathan - and his girlfriend agreed with him - said something about Christian hitting on his girl, Tyson complained about the fact that he had never seemed to treat you good, and all the girls agreed with him.
Thinking about your break-up on the first day of your summer vacation wasn’t something you had planned, so you silently kept to yourself, hoping the conversation would drop quickly. Your eyes lifted up from the orange flames of the fire, finding the stars illuminating the dark sky, so subtle yet so beautiful. All the voices of your friends were silenced as you admired the beauty of the night, a breath you didn’t realize you were holding in finally leaving your lips.
A gentle hand nudged your elbow, your attention snapping towards the person to your right in a quick second. Staring back at you was Cale, a soft smile on his lips as he held a stick with a roasted marshmallow between the two of you. “For you,”
“For me?”
“I know you love roasted marshmallows,” he mumbled, sheepishly scratching the back of his head. “Just thought of making one for you, I guess,”
A small smile formed on your lips at his kindness, cheeks burning as you accepted the stick. “You’re too sweet, Cale,” you mumbled, your shoulder leaning against his as you grabbed the candy from the top of the branch, pushing it in your mouth.
He grabbed his own marshmallow and slid it in his mouth, your eyes meeting as you silently looked at each other. His cheeks grew bigger from the size of the candy, a small piece of it coloring the side of his mouth.
You giggled, his own laughter following yours as you swallowed. “Hang on, Cale,” you mumbled, coming closer to him as you tried to ignore your heartbeat picking up its pace. “You’ve got something-”
Your palm cupped his scarlet cheek, warm against your skin as your thumb smoothed the sticky substance away, your eyes barely leaving his as the two of you sat back in place. Both of your heartbeats were loud, cheeks burning as you acted as if the closeness hadn’t affected you in any kind of way.
You silently hoped nobody had paid attention to the two of you, knowing the guys wouldn’t hold down the chirping; but when you looked back at the team and wags, they all seemed to be too focused on their conversation to even notice Cale’s burning cheeks, or your fingers slightly touching.
You were the first one to wish everyone a good night, that day, to retrieve in your tent and listen to your heart beat loudly. You felt like a teenager again, feeling just so jittery after the interaction with the man you had always spent too much time looking at, and had always looked for whenever you’d join the group at any kind of event.
You had always repressed whatever you had been feeling for Cale, pushed it to the side to avoid any kind of rejection. But the way Cale smiled your way, the way he helped you out whenever he could, the way he tried to find subtle ways to gently touch you.
Something in you, that night, was guessing that your feelings might have been mutual.
-----
“Does this happen every time you guys go camping?” You asked Sydney breathlessly as you took a look at the hiking path in front of you. You were already two hours into the hike, the guys all walking ahead of you as if the uphill path wasn’t tiring them, at all. “Like, do you ever get a break when hiking with the boys?”
“Nope,” Sydney giggled from beside you, stopping in her tracks to take a sip of her water. “You’re a newbie to our camping trips, you’ll get used to it,”
You laughed along with her, looping your arm around hers as you followed the rest of the group through the sunrays-lit forest, sweat threatening to line your forehead. Walking in front of everyone was Cale, laughing along with Nate as you watched him, a smile of your own forming on your lips.
The moments of the previous night kept repeating in your mind as you silently walked, hoping the man living in your mind wouldn’t notice the fondness in your eyes whenever he looked your way.
“So, you and Cale?”
The words leaving Sydney’s mouth had your cheeks burning, the smile on your face quickly turning sheepish as you kept walking. “What about me and Cale?”
“C’mon,” she laughed, looking at you with an eyebrow raised. “Last night?”
You rolled your eyes with a chuckle, shaking your head slowly as you looked at the path in front of you. “That was nothing,”
“Nothing?!” She cried exasperatedly, pushing your shoulder as she kept walking. “You looked like you were going to make-out on the spot,”
“That’s not true,”
“That’s more than true, Y/N,” she laughed, silence settling between the two of you after her teasing words. Maybe you and Cale hadn’t been that smooth, you thought. Her elbow was quick to hit your ribcage after a few minutes, her eyes finding yours again as a small smirk formed on her lips. “He’s single, you’re finally single. You should give it a thought,”
“It’s just a stupid, small crush,” you admitted. “Nothing more,”
“Then why not try and see where things would lead?” She stated, knowing she was right. “I’ve never seen Cale act like that,”
“Like what?”
“Like a smitten teenager,” her honesty had you laughing, your head shaking as you were the one to push her shoulder, that time. When your laughter died down, her voice made its way inside your ears. “But really, you should try,”
She didn’t give you time to give her a response, slipping away from you to reach her boyfriend’s side, who had called her name. You were left on your own once again, staring ahead of you, your eyes focused on the back of Cale’s head as you struggled to keep up with the group.
Was it so easy to notice? The way your cheeks would heat up, or the way your smile would turn giddy as soon as he’d be close enough to have your fingers brushing against his. Was it that easy?
“C’mon, Y/N! We’re almost there!” EJ yelled from the front, his toothless smile shining from the distance as he walked backward. You laughed, throwing your head back for a quick second before meeting eyes with a smiley Cale standing by his side.
His cheeks were their usual scarlet color, hair slightly tousled from being pushed back too many times, but he still looked like the kind of person who would steal your heart in no time.
-
“Good night, Y/N,” Tyson was the last person to leave the fireplace, a smile on his face as he walked towards his tent, the silence of the night engulfing you in a warm embrace.
Your eyes drifted up towards the sky - as they always did - and found the patterns of stars painting it. The moon was shining brightly that night, its rays illuminating your face as you silently thought about your day. And Cale.
The hike had gone surprisingly well: the various hours under the hot sun had been worth it, the view from the top of the mountains so beautiful you could never forget it. But you couldn’t just forget Cale, his lingering touches, and the way his eyes would be staring deeply at you whenever they could.
When he had helped you down a particularly high, rocky step, your breath had hitched, the feeling of his rough yet gentle hands on your waist pushing the butterflies in your stomach back to life. You were sure you had never felt so deeply connected to someone, the way Cale was making you feel just so unknown to you. You didn’t want things to end.
“You sure you’ll be okay out here on your own?”
Your head snapped towards the source of sound, the nest of tousled blond hair you knew too well finding your eyes in less than a second. “Yeah, don’t worry, Cale,”
Your gaze fell back on the stars, ignoring the sound of his footsteps until the shuffling of his body next to yours snapped you out of your thoughts again. “The stars are beautiful, tonight,” was all Cale mumbled as your shoulders touched.
“City pollution doesn’t do them much justice,” you chuckled, wrapping your arms around your folded legs as you sent him a quick glance. “I should probably come here more often,”
“It’s such a nice place,” Cale stated, a layer of comfortable silence settling between the two of you. Your body leaned against his on its own command, your head almost resting on his shoulder as the sounds of the crickets surrounding you pushed you into a state of calmness.
His body seemed to tense for a second, but his arm wrapped around your middle when he realized there was nothing you wanted more than to feel him close to you. He was silent for a few minutes - just enjoying your closeness and the warmth your body held - before letting his eyes close.
You didn’t recall walking back to your tent, the next morning when you woke up, but his hoodie still covering your body was a tell-tale sign Cale had brought you back after a while. You buried your flushed face in your pillow, that morning, the sun warming up your tent as you still felt Cale close to you.
Did he feel the same way?
-----
“Oh. My. God. Y/N!” Johanna yelled, trembling as the chilly water of the lake hit her back, all thanks to your splashing. You giggled at her exaggerated reaction, dipping underwater to escape any of her splashes as she tried to look for revenge.
The sun was setting after another long hike, its reflection painting the lake an orange shade as you cooled down, enjoying the last day of the vacation with the team. It was a summer you were going to remember, but you felt stressed, in some kind of way.
Your heart was beating for someone, and that someone was Cale. You had never felt as close to him as you did on the trip, and you felt like something was going to happen. Eventually.
But the trip was coming to its end: you’d have to go home and get back to your schedule, the guys would go back in full swing to their own jobs, and you weren’t ready to give up on the progress you and Cale had made, not yet. It felt as if the universe wanted you to be happy, giving you Cale and feelings you just couldn’t hold back, and just a small time to find your happiness.
The water had stopped moving around you, and you realized just then that Johanna had left, and you were - yet again - on your own. The water had started to cool down even more due to the dark clouds already painting the sky, pushing you to sit on the dock with a towel wrapped around your shoulders to warm up.
The world seemed to grow quiet as you watched the clouds move, reminding you of the sleepless night you were going to spend in your lonely tent due to the upcoming rainstorm. You smiled, though, taking a deep breath as the sound of laughter from the distance slowly put your world back into motion.
“You’re going to get a cold,”
“Would be worth it,” you giggled, watching Cale move until he was sitting next to you on the dock. “What are you doing here?”
“I was looking for you, dinner’s almost ready,” he mumbled, his own eyes falling on the sky. You hummed, wrapping the towel tighter around your shoulders as you scooted closer to him.
“I’m going to miss this,” you whispered truthfully, your cold fingers busy on the strings of your bikini. “Camping, nights in front of the fireplace, you guys,”
“Same,” Cale admitted. “I don’t want it to end, you know? I’m going to miss you,”
Your heart fluttered at his words, sending the butterflies in your stomach in a spiral for a quick second as he kept talking. “And it’s stupid to say, because I see you just so often,” he muttered, running a hand through his hair. “But I’m going to miss you, and what happened between us here,”
You took a second to let his words sink in, just how quickly they made your body feel warm and how they made you feel like a teenager in love all over again. “It doesn’t have to end, Cale,” was all you whispered, your eyes meeting his as you let your heart beat loudly, not caring if anyone heard it.
“I didn’t think you’d feel the same way,” he said, honesty slipping from his lips as he let a hand cup your cheek tenderly.
“And I didn’t think you’d feel the same way, either,” you giggled, your chest warming up unexpectedly when his lips brushed up in a smile. You admired him, letting your eyes rake across his eyes, then his nose, his rosy cheeks, and - soon after - his lips. “Promise me we won’t let this go to waste,”
“We won’t,” he whispered back, his free hand lacing with yours as your lips finally met. Your world felt complete, at least, it seemed like it. With his hands on you and his gentle kisses, you felt alive, you felt like you were finally home.
One of his kisses turned into two, and two turned into three. As warm as he made you feel, your body heat was lowering and you had to pull away with clattering teeth before you bit his lip a little too hard. Your foreheads met for a moment, your eyes closing as you spent one last moment with him, the closeness having you weak.
“You’re freezing,” he stated, eyes carefully taking notice of your purple lips and shaking limbs. “Let’s go, you need to get changed before you die on me,”
“I’m fine, Cale,” you giggled, taking his hand to stand up with him before you started to head towards your camping spot, where the rest of the team was making dinner. His hand stayed in yours as he led you towards your tent, not caring - or worrying - if your friends saw.
Dinner was quite uneventful after that. You ate in silence as you missed Cale’s touch, a smile on your lips as you caught him staring your way from the distance. You didn’t set up the fireplace, that night. Rain started to hit your skin by ten, and everyone pretty much understood your last night had come to an end.
You had wished Cale goodnight with a subtle squeeze of his hand before heading towards your tent, sliding under your covers as you thought about the events of the day. Your mind went back to the man that stole your heart, thinking about the way your heart would stutter every time he’d look your way, or just how quickly your mood could change when his skin touched yours.
Saying you were stuck on him was an understatement.
The tiredness from the activities started to kick in - your eyes feeling quite heavy as you pushed your phone away from you - but the sounds the rain made, the fear of a storm and just what it could cause, they were keeping you up.
The raindrops were hitting the fabric of the tent harshly, and as much as you tried to relax, you just couldn’t. It was well past midnight when an idea popped in your mind, but you just couldn’t. It was too much, and too early.
You rolled to your side, your air mattress making a squeaking noise as you did so. It was too early. Your phone vibrated, pushing you out of your thoughts as the screen lit up, a new message waiting to be read.
I’m outside your tent.
Your brows furrowed at Cale’s text, looking up to see that, in fact, someone was standing outside your tent. You crawled towards the entrance, pushing the zipper down until the cold hair of the night hit your face, and your eyes met Cale’s frame.
“What the hell are you doing here? You’re going to catch a cold!”
“Would be worth it,” he repeated the words you had used earlier that day. “Can I come in?”
“Of course,” you whisper-yelled, almost dragging him inside before you closed the tent back up. “What are you doing here, Cale?”
“I noticed you couldn’t sleep,” he mumbled, sitting on the edge of your mattress as his eyes stayed on your features even in the darkness of the night. “And I couldn’t sleep either,”
You giggled, shaking your head when you had realized you had had the same idea at the same time. You had been so close to joining Cale in his tent to relax and let all your worries leave your body, but he had beaten you at your own game.
With your last ounce of courage, you pressed a quick kiss to his blushing cheek, pulling him along with you to lay on the mattress. “Just come here,”
You were facing each other after you slipped under the covers again, his eyes staring into yours as you felt your body snuggle closer to his at its own command. One of his arms wrapped itself around your body, pulling you even closer as you felt a tender kiss being pressed to the crown of your head.
“Get some rest,” he whispered in your hair, your face buried in the crook of his neck as he talked. “I’ll be here in the morning,”
“Good night, Cale,”
“Good night, Y/N,”
-
Morning came quickly, too quickly for your liking. The sun was weakly lighting up your tent, its rays shining against Cale’s skin just right. He was still with you - as he had promised - and you were sure there was no better way to wake up than to open your eyes and see Cale, before anyone else.
He was breathing shallowly, eyes still closed as his arms kept tight around your waist, no sign of him waking up just yet. Your heart was a fluttering mess: you’d gone from complete strangers, to friends, to what seemed like lovers. And, God- you didn’t want it to end.
One single digit of yours ghosted over his soft cheek, starting to trace his features as lightly as it could as you admired him with all you had, hoping he wouldn’t wake up from your motions. A long sigh left his lips at your touch, eyelids squeezing for a quick second before he let them open.
“Good morning,” he grumbled, voice gravelly as he closed his eyes for another moment.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to wake you,” you whispered, retrieving your hand as he pulled you closer. “Slept well?”
“Yes,” he dragged the last letter, the smile on his lips making you giggle. “You?”
“Like a baby,”
“That’s good,”
Silence settled between you as you enjoyed his warmth, brain running way too quickly at just eight in the morning while you traced shapes on his clothed chest. “They’re gonna chirp the hell out of us,” you giggled.
“Oh, God,” Cale chuckled, his palm landing on his face as he remembered about his restless teammates. “Might as well just die in here,”
You giggled, tugging the tent’s zipper open and grabbing his hand to get him out of your bed. “Just let them talk,” you whispered in his ear before stepping outside, stretching your limbs. His quite taller frame struggled to exit the tent, but when he did, a chorus of gasps surrounded you.
“I knew it!” Johanna yelled, receiving a slap from a sleepy Sydney when her loud voice scared her. “I fucking knew it!”
“Cale is getting it, guys!” Tyson said loudly, making Cale’s cheeks heat up.
“Shut the fuck up, Josty,” you spat out jokingly, pushing his shoulder as you found an empty spot to sit on. “Don’t chirp my boyfriend,”
The weight of Cale’s body sitting next to you was enough to distract you for a second, but his thick voice in your ear really took your breath away. “Boyfriend?”
You bit your lip, looking up at him innocently before sending him a quick smile. “Only if you want to,”
He hummed, jokingly leaning down to press a kiss on your cheek, your heart beating loudly against your ribcage. “I’ll think about it,”
Breakfast was over in a rush, and you found yourself packing your belongings with sad sighs leaving your lips every now and then. Even though summer had barely just reached its peak, you weren’t ready to leave the memories of the camping trip behind just yet.
On the hike back to the parking lot, your hand stayed in Cale’s. It fit in his palm so easily you couldn’t help but think you were never going to stop holding his hand, as pathetic as it sounded. The air was chilly, and it held sadness as you two and the rest of the group walked back to your cars.
“I don’t want this to end,” Susanna said, hugging you tightly as you all said goodbye. “I’m going to miss you girls,”
“We’ll find a way to see each other, babe,” Sydney reassured her as they embraced each other.
“Y/N,” Nate greeted you with a smile, a smirk on his lips as he hugged you. “I’m hoping to see you at our next game with an eight on your back,”
You punched his shoulder jokingly when you parted ways, laughing along with him. “I’ll miss you too, Nate,”
Your last goodbyes were sad, numerous people piling in cars as you waved their way, your back resting against your car as you sighed softly.
“So,” Cale mumbled from behind you, stepping closer to your frame as he looked down at you. “Would be interested in our next game’s ticket and my personal jersey, as Nate suggested?”
You giggled, shaking your head as you wrapped your arms around his neck. “I mean, maybe,” you joked, biting on your lip as you let your eyes meet.
“As my girlfriend, you should probably say yes,” he said, looking down at you with a smirk as he gave you no time to respond, his lips meeting yours in a kiss.
“Girlfriend?”
He matched the smile on your face, leaning down to press another kiss before mocking your words from that morning. His voice was smooth, making your heart beat faster than usual, the butterflies in your stomach so crazy you were worried he could feel them.
“Only if you want to,”

Nothin’ Like You ~ Cale Makar
In honor of reaching over 200 followers, here is a song fic based on Dan and Shay’s Nothin’ Like You. I have a few requests in my inbox that I will be working on. If you have any, feel free to send them in using this prompt! Thank you for 200!!!
Master List
I remember when I first met you Sipping coffee in a corner booth You were twirling your hair And I just had to stare For a minute or two
Cale was with Tyson and J.T. after practice one Wednesday afternoon. The three of them decided to stop and get some coffee as it was a cold winter day outside. They were waiting in line talking about something E.J. had said earlier that day when Cale’s eyes landed on you in the back corner by a window. You had a cup of coffee and were staring at your laptop, completely oblivious to the world around you. He couldn’t help but stare as you wound and un-wound a strand of hair around your finger, every so often stopping to type something. Tyson kept talking as J.T. realized their defenseman was completely distracted by something. Following his line of sight, he chuckled. “See something you like? Or someone?” he chirped his teammate. Cale started to turn red as he looked away from you.
“I thought maybe I knew her,” he muttered. Tyson had stopped his monologue and was paying attention also now. He looked over as you had your head buried in a book, slowly typing something out.
“How did she carry all those books?” he asked with a slight laugh. Cale had noticed the numerous books you had scattered around the table. Didn’t people just do their research online now? “You like studious girls Makar?” Tyson elbowed him.
I was laughing at your stack of books Then you shot me that smile Hey beautiful girl, in your own little world Let me in it
“Man shut up,” Cale said turning on his friend. Unknowingly to them though, you had actually heard all the commotion. It was why you enjoyed doing your research in coffee shops; the garbled noises made it easier for you to concentrate. This doesn’t mean that you had heard what they said exactly, but who could really miss three hockey players walking into a small coffee shop in the middle of the week.
You looked up right as Cale was glancing back over at you. As you locked eyes, you sent him a shy smile and looked back down, trying to focus on your work again. Of course you knew who they were, all of Denver practically did. You were just an overstressed grad student with too many deadlines coming up though; he was probably just looking around the place.
The three of them ordered their coffees, and Cale noticed that you had looked sadly at your cup after taking a sip. He walked up to the counter and got the attention of the barista. “What did that girl in the corner order?” he asked, and was told it was a caramel latte. “I’ll take one of those too,” Cale said, paying for a second coffee. J.T. gave Tyson a look before he could say anything as they watched Cale walk over to you with two coffee cups.
You got all of my attention And you ain't even trying Yeah, you're my kind of different And I never seen nothin'
Nothin' like you
“Um hi. I hope you don’t mind, but I thought you could use this,” Cale said, announcing his presence at your table. You looked up, slightly startled as you had been engrossed in a thought you had while typing out your research. “Didn’t mean to scare you,” he chuckled nervously.
“No, you’re fine! Sorry, I had a train of thought going,” you sputtered out just as nervous as him. “Thank you, that’s very kind. What do I owe you?” you asked, instinctively reaching for your wallet. Cale shook his head.
“Nothing,” he said, trying to think of what the guys on the team might say in this situation. “Your number maybe?” he made a face like he couldn’t believe he just said that, and you couldn’t help but giggle.
“Um, sure, yeah,” you squeaked out, writing your number on a piece of notebook paper and ripping it out to give to him. “I’m Y/N,” you introduced yourself.
“Cale,” he said, taking the paper from you. He was about to ask what you were doing when Tyson called out to him.
“Makar, are you coming?” Cale turned toward his friends who had big, goofy grins on their faces watching the interaction. You blushed slightly at the thought of others watching you.
“I’m sorry. I’ll text you,” he stuttered out, putting your number into his pocket. You smiled softly at him and nodded.
“Thanks for the coffee,” you said and he smiled at you.
“My pleasure.”
Shades on spinning in a summer rain Dancing when there ain’t no music Just the right kind of crazy, baby
Cale had texted you like he said he would that same evening. You honestly weren’t expecting it, but felt completely giddy when you saw the unknown number and read his message. He explained that he would be gone on a road trip with the Avs for the next week, but would like to take you to dinner when he got back. You accepted and plans were made; the two of you talking regularly throughout the week getting to know each other better.
The Avs returned home on Thursday, and a few hours later Cale was at your apartment knocking on your door. He had brought you flowers and you couldn’t help but smile at the kind gesture. The two of you made your way to dinner, talking the whole time. He had just finished telling you a funny story from the trip, beaming at the giggle he had enticed from you when your food arrived. As you looked down at your plate, you started moving your head and shoulders in an excited fashion. “Are you dancing?” Cale questioned you with a chuckle. You stopped immediately.
“Oh my gosh, sorry. I tend to have a happy dance with food. It’s a weird family thing. I don’t even realize I do it until it’s pointed out to me,” you rambled on, face turning red. Cale shook his head.
“Don’t be sorry. I though it was cute,” he said in a low tone. You smiled and giggled nervously; Cale deciding then and there that he wanted to continue seeing that smile for as long as you would let him.
Something about you Rocking that rock 'n roll t-shirt Whole party dressed up But you just doin’ your thing Ain't nobody ever seen nothin' like you
You were working on your research the following Friday night, having the game on in the background. Cale had taken you out to dinner once more since your first date, and the two of you had been nonstop texting. The Avs had won, Cale scoring that night. After the game you were about to text him a ‘congratulations’ when your phone started to ring, the caller ID showing it was him. “Congratulations!” you said as you answered and heard him chuckle on the other end of the line.
“Thanks Y/N. Hey, what are you doing tonight?” he asked, and you heard a few wolf whistles behind him with muttered ‘shut ups’ coming from the defenseman.
“I’ve just been working on my research since I got out of class earlier. Why?” you asked, trying not to laugh.
“Come out with us. We’re all going out to celebrate,” he said in a more hushed tone, and you could imagine him trying to avoid the whole locker room from hearing.
“Cale, I would love to but I’m not dressed to go out,” you said.
“Who cares. Please? I would like you to come,” he pleaded with you ever so slightly. You looked down at your outfit, deciding it wouldn’t take much to put on some jeans quickly. Your Red Hot Chili Peppers shirt didn’t look terrible at least.
“Text me the address,” you said into the phone, and you could hear the excitement in Cale’s voice as he said he would.
When you're wearing them worn out jeans Purple untied shoestrings You're a light in the dark And you're stealing my heart like a gypsy
Showing up to the bar, you became a little self-conscious. Maybe you should have changed? The second Cale spotted you though, he thought you were the most beautiful girl in the room. The front of your band tee was tucked into your ripped black jeans, your white converse showing years of wear as they were no longer exactly white and the shoelaces were frayed at the ends. Cale knew you were probably stressed with your research, and yet you still had the softest smile and a sparkle in your eyes when you found him in the crowd. “You made it,” he whispered into your hair as he hugged you close. He felt you giggle into his chest.
“Couldn’t let you down,” you answered simply. Cale smiled at you and took your hand, leading you over to a table where some of the team was sitting.
“Coffee shop girl!” A slightly tipsy Tyson shouted.
“Oh my God,” Cale muttered as you giggled. You were introduced to everyone as you took a seat between Cale and someone he called Gravy.
“So what is your research on?” Gabriel Landeskog asked when you said you were a grad student at the University of Denver.
“The archaeology of Zoroastrianism,” you said, and caught many blank stares.
“Zoro what?” Andre asked.
“It’s an ancient Persian religion. Today’s modern practices of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism all have common ties to it,” you briefly explained.
“Wait, that was the religion Freddie Mercury practiced,” Sam Girard commented, looking interested. You nodded.
“That’s how most people have heard of it now,” you responded.
“What is your research trying to say about it?” he asked.
“So I’m basically writing a big literature review to make sure it is preserved in the archaeological record. It was the first dualistic religion in a time where civilizations had their pantheons to believe in. It spread with the Persian conquest, but no one they conquered was ever forced to convert to it. Now it’s a rare religion to come across, and their numbers keep getting smaller. With it being one of the oldest organized religions, it needs to be preserved and the traditions documented before we lose it all through modernization attempts.” To you, your explanation was simple and one that you had said many times whenever asked what you were studying. It seemed you had impressed the table though, and you slightly blushed as a few questions started flying your way. You didn’t notice Cale softly smiling at you while you talked about a topic that you loved so much; he couldn’t take his eyes off of you. His teammates noticed though, and boy were they going to give it to him at practice.
I love the way that you kiss me In front of everybody So baby come and kiss me They ain't ever seen nothin'
Nothin' like you
The following day at practice, the guys were giving Cale crap for how head over heels he seemed for you. The fact he hadn’t kissed you yet was another source of ridicule. Everyone who had met you ended up adoring you within the time span that you spent with them at the bar; and they could easily see that their defenseman was taken by you as his cheeks would turn red at the mention of your name. They were all happy for him, but that didn’t mean the chirping would stop.
They had another home game to play the following day, and Gabe convinced Cale to invite you and have you sit with Mel and Linnea. Later that day Cale went to your apartment and handed you his jersey, asking you to be there for the game. You couldn’t say no to him, not that you wanted to anyways. That Sunday you put on the jersey and headed to the stadium. Meeting Mel at the front, you quickly got along and enjoyed the game. The Avs came out victorious again, and you followed the captain’s wife to the locker rooms. You stepped aside as Gabe made his way over to his wife, feeling a little out of place. Luckily for you, Cale wasn’t far behind.
He didn’t know if it was from the guys comments or seeing you in his jersey, but one second he was smiling widely at you, then the next his lips were on yours and his hands on your waist. Without a second thought, you kissed him back, your hands holding his face to yours. You were both grinning ear to ear as you separated, chirps flying all around but all in good nature. Giggling, you hid your face in Cale’s chest as his face turned bright red.
Shades on spinning in a summer rain Dancing when there ain’t no music Just the right kind of crazy, baby Something about you Rocking that rock 'n roll t-shirt Whole party dressed up But you just doing your thing Ain't nobody ever seen nothin' like you, yeah
A year had passed and you were at the end of your grad program. You were set to present your research at the graduate fair, having been selected to present your research on behalf of your department. The Avs were scheduled to be flying back home that day, but Cale wasn’t sure if he would be there in time to see you present. You told him that it was fine, that you understood; and you really did. He was hell bent on making it though. You weren’t that surprised when you saw Cale sneaking into the back of the auditorium. What did surprise you was that half the team had followed him in. Having become good friends with them, they wanted to be there to support you too. As your name was announced, you swear you had the loudest applause.
You calmly presented your research, smiling at Cale when you finished and a few questions were thrown your way. Having worked so hard, the questions were simple to answer. Finding Cale afterward, he took your poster from you and the two of you made your way to his apartment so he could unpack from the trip. Changing into some leggings and one of his shirts, you showed him the bound copy of your 105 page thesis. He was so proud of you and couldn’t help but share the cover on his Insta story. The two of you cuddle and slept better that night then you had in a while. For him it was being back home with you, and you finally had the stress of your research gone since the first time you met him.
Nothin' like you Shades on spinning in a summer rain Dancing in the rain no music Nothin' like you Rocking that rock 'n roll t-shirt Whole party dressed up But you just doing your thing Ain't nobody ever seen nothin' like you, yeah
Once you graduated, Cale asked you to move in with him. You had secured a job at a museum as a curator in their Antient History section. Setting up an exhibit all morning, you met up with Cale at the same coffee shop you had met at two years prior later that day. “Sorry I’m late” you muttered to Cale as you found him. He smiled and gave you a quick kiss.
“You have nothing to be sorry about. I already put your order in,” he said as you sat across from him, taking a sip of the coffee he got you.
“You know me so well,” you hummed with a giggle, the caramel latte tasting sweet. Cale grinned at you.
“Technically, your coffee order was the first thing I learned about you, so I better get that right,” he chuckled. “That and you seemed like a huge nerd.” You faked offense, but laughed anyway.
“It was all those books that got you. I knew my tactic of sitting in a coffee shop would work for me one day,” you winked at him.
“It did. I’d never seen nothing like you,” he grinned, reaching into his pocket to take out a small velvet jewelry box.
Never seen, never seen nothin' like you Ain't never seen anything like you Mmm Never seen nothin' like you

25&42 from the list 1 prompt (fluff) with cale <3
25. “You’re hugging me too tight!”
42. “Hey, only I can call them that!”
-
As Cale’s resident best friend and on account of him being single, you got free access to all his spare game tickets since he never had anyone to give them to, save for the rare occasion his family made the trip to Colorado to watch him play.
And lucky for you, Cale invited you to take his extra playoff tickets. His family had taken the first few games, but with the lead they held over the Blues, Cale elected to save at least one game for you.
The game ended with a 4-1 win over St. Louis, giving them the 4-0 sweep in the series and sending them to the Cup final, and everyone was bouncing off the walls.
You huddled with the other significant others and family members in the tunnel outside the locker room, waiting in excitement to celebrate with the boys.
One by one they filed out, first the captain and a couple older guys whose first mission was to hug their families, and you waited your turn for your favorite rosy-cheeked boy. Tyson was the first to greet you, running up to engulf you in a bone-crushing hug.
“Fucking Stanley Cup final!” Tyson cheered, his volume a little too loud for being right next to your ear that you had to wince away before he blew an eardrum.
“Tys, you’re hugging me too tight,” you managed to get out in between wheezy breaths.
“Sorry, Squints, I’m too excited to let you go,” Tyson grinned, only letting up his grip just enough for you to inhale. He shook you around in happiness, and it was when he twirled you around that you spotted Cale leaning against the wall watching Tyson squeeze the life out of you.
“Squints, eh? Only I can call them that!” Cale chuckled beside you, and Tyson took his cue to let you go so you could embrace your best friend. ‘Squints’ was a nickname Cale had given you ever since the first time you watched The Sandlot together. It was, probably, your all time favorite movie, and you could recite the entire film from start to finish. Once Cale had discovered your little obsession with it, he started calling you Squints, who was one of your favorite characters.
Cale often called you by your nickname rather than your actual name and the rest of the team had eventually picked up on it.
“You don’t have a monopoly on them, Makar,” Tyson scoffed as Cale pulled you into his arms. “I’m your favorite, right?”
You rolled your eyes. “You’re my favorite forward, Jost.”
“Semantics,” he shrugged.
Tyson was pulled away into another celebration by the Comphers not a second later, leaving you to give your congratulations to Cale.
“How does it feel to be four wins away from being Stanley Cup champions?” You asked, wrapping your arms around Cale’s middle while his draped over your shoulders.
His face broke into a wide smile and his cheeks were still red from the exertion of the game. Cale was happy. So fucking happy. You could see it in his eyes how excited and proud he was to be going to the final, and you were proud of him. The feeling almost made you want to reach up and kiss that dopey smile off his lips, but you held yourself back.
“It’ll feel even better when we win the Cup,” he replied, unable to stop his hand from drifting to trace his thumb over your cheek.
The moment could’ve lasted one second or one hour, you couldn’t tell. You were too distracted by his blue eyes to properly process the passage of time.
“Come on, we should get going. Gabe’s hosting a small party tonight to celebrate,” Cale spoke up after a moment, his smile fading slightly.
The sound of your names being shouted burst the bubble around you, and you forced yourself to take a step back. Cale’s hand reached down to grab your own before you could pull back too far and tugged you into his side as he led you towards the exit.
“You’re coming to the first game, right?” Cale asked as he ushered you through the parking lot, and you nodded.
“Of course, there’s nowhere else I’d rather be,” you replied, and Cale shot you a quick smirk.
Once this is all over and once they’ve won the Cup, I’ll tell him, you decided, butterflies fluttering in your stomach as Cale didn’t drop your hand the entire walk to his car.

~~~~~
The Avs training camp and preseason flew by far faster than you expected. It was two weeks filled with bumps and bruises as you and Cale learned how to actually live with each other full time. You learned how Cale likes his shakes before practice and all about the tiny details of his game day routine. He learned where feminine hygiene products were located in the grocery store, that you can’t always assume that every oven is the same, and that he needed to change the batteries on his smoke detectors. There were some moments of discomfort but you worked through them with patience and understanding, knowing that someday you’d just look back and laugh about them.
You’d had dinner with the Calvert’s, sharing stories about what Cale was like as a kid and watching once again the way he engaged with their boys. You’d settled into your new work routine, blocking off game day afternoons for research so that Cale could nap in peace without having to listen to you chat with clients. You’d gone to the home preseason games, donning Cale’s jersey for the first time as more than just his best friend. It was a flurry of activity and before you knew it you were heading home from the final preseason game with Cale’s hand resting on your thigh after a successful night.
Just by the stroke of his fingers, you could tell he was exhausted and when he finally pulled into the underground lot of your building, you climbed out of the car, moving around to drape an arm around his waist.
“Time to get you to bed.” You murmured, peering up at him. Cale nodded and groaned, leading you inside. Once in your apartment, you watched as Cale shrugged out of his suit slowly. Though it was only preseason, you were certain that your man was feeling achy as he stripped down to his boxers while making his way into the bedroom. Grabbing a bottle of water from the fridge along with some pain killers, you made your way back to bed, flipping off lights as you went.
Cale was face down on the bed, his head buried into a pillow when you set the procured items down beside him. In a few spots his skin was a blotchy bruised color and you frowned. Hockey was a physical sport and though you loved watching him play, you hated seeing the beating his body took because of it. Silently, you changed into your own pajamas before sitting down on the bed beside your boyfriend.
“You’re sore aren’t you?” You asked softly, your hand rubbing up and down his back gently. Cale let out a half sigh/half grunt in response and you frowned watching him. “Can I give you a massage? Would that help?” You inquired, sliding your thumb up to press gently but firmly along his neck.
“Please?” Cale mumbled, turning his head just slightly so he could breathe easier.
“Of course hun…” You murmured. “Your back, your thighs? Where do you need my attention?”
“Both?” The request was almost a whimper and you nodded to yourself.
“You got it.” You assured him. “Let me go grab a bottle of lotion, you take the meds and drink some of that water.” All you wanted was to make Cale feel good again, to help him relax enough that he could get the sleep his body needed. He had tomorrow off, but first you had to help him wind down for the night.
When you returned from the bathroom, lotion in hand, the pills were gone and so was most of the bottle of water. Cale was still laying on his stomach and you moved to straddle his ass, your hands just sliding lightly over the muscles of his back.
“Tell me if I’m using too much pressure or if you need more.” You directed, pumping some lotion onto your hands before warming it up and starting to work your hands along Cale’s back. It was obvious where his muscles were tight and where he was sore and you did your best to try and give him as much relief as you could without hurting him.
Slowly you felt Cale start to relax under you and you smiled, rubbing your hands down his biceps and over his back lightly.
“Wanna roll over so I can do your thighs?” You prompted, giggling softly at the soft whine that slipped from Cale’s lips. Shifting off of him so that he could flip over, you took the chance to actually kiss him. “Love you handsome. I hope this is helping.” Cale’s hand slipped up to cup the back of your head and he pulled you into another lazy kiss.
“You always help.” He breathed when the kiss was finally broken. Smiling down at him, you straddled his hips, your body facing his thighs. Using more lotion, you attempted to ease some of the knots in Cale’s thick thighs. It was a slow process but you’d do anything for him to bring him some relief. As you worked you felt the weight of Cale’s eyes fall over you and you pinched his thigh knowingly, making him yelp.
“Stop staring at my ass.” You teased, peeking back at him.
“But I love your ass.” Cale whined. “And it’s the only part of you I can really see.” Shaking your head, you finished your work on his thighs before grabbing the bottle of lotion and climbing off the bed to go wash your hands. Cale had shifted under the covers by the time you got back, and he held your side of the blankets up for you, tugging you against him as you slid under them. “Thank you.” He whispered, a yawn quickly following his words.
“You’re welcome.” You replied. “Now get some sleep, let your body recover.”
It seemed like no time had passed at all before Cale’s soft snores filled your ears signaling that he was out cold. Brushing a piece of hair from his face, you closed your eyes, your own body drifting off to join his in dreamland.
_____
You weren’t sure what time it was, but the room was still dark when you awoke to Cale’s restless shifting.
“Cale…” You whispered into the darkness. “What’s wrong?” He seemed to still be asleep but his body was signaling that his dreams had turned sour. Sliding your hand up along his back you tried to soothe him without waking him. When that didn’t work you brushed your fingers along his jaw before leaning in to kiss him gently. “Hey handsome...wake up.” You breathed.
When his eyes fluttered open, you immediately read the panic in them. Your boyfriend clearly wasn’t okay.
“Do you remember what has you so spooked?” You asked. After a moment it was clear that he either didn’t remember or that he didn’t want to talk about it and you nodded just rubbing your palm against his chest as he attempted to catch his breath. “Can I do anything to help?” You inquired, truly concerned. Cale shrugged, fatigue evident on his features.
You didn’t want to push so you let him be, rolling over to attempt to go back to sleep. Though Cale hadn’t spoken at all, his fingers flexed around your hip as you settled and continued to do so for the next few minutes.
After feeling him continue to shift around in bed, you knew that neither of you were going to get any sleep unless you did something. Remembering how much it had helped you to have him resting inside of you, you slipped out of his grasp, shifting to slide off your pj bottoms and panties.
Cale was staring up at the ceiling when you looked back over and you sighed softly.
“Cale hun...why don’t we try cockwarming again and see if that can help you like it helped me?” You suggested. He didn’t protest as you tugged gently at his boxer-briefs, working them to the floor. Tugging him onto his side, you worked to tangle your bodies, your fingers wrapping around his soft length. “Cale is this okay?” You questioned, alarmed by his lack of response.
“Yeah...please.” His voice was broken as he choked out the words. Frowning, you pressed your lips against his over and over lightly as you lined him up with your core, rocking your hips down against his until he was sheathed inside of you.
The deep breath that spilled from Cale’s throat as he felt your tight heat wrap around him told you that this had been the right call, that this was what he needed. Scraping your fingers over his scalp, you pulled his head to the crook of your neck. You continued your light touches, occasionally flexing your inner walls around him just a little as a reminder until you felt his body go limp against you once more. Only then did you fall back asleep yourself, hopeful that when you woke again, the sun would be up.
_____
The sun was definitely up when your brain began floating out of the fog of sleep. It wasn’t the sun that woke you though, no, it was the feeling of throbbing and wet warmth as your boyfriend spilled inside you. The feeling was unmistakable and as your eyes fluttered open, you realized that Cale was just waking up as well, his eyes widening in shock as he realized what had happened.
“Holy shit.” He mumbled. “I’m so sorry.”
Cutting off his freakout, you pulled him into a kiss, moaning softly against his mouth.
“Don’t freak.” You whispered, the warmth spreading all through your body as you fully woke up. “It’s okay.” This was certainly one way to wake up and you felt your body begin to hum, your arousal rising. “Cockwarming makes you so sensitive doesn’t it handsome? That might just be the best wake up call ever.” You added, a smirk settling on your lips.
“I didn’t…” Cale’s eyes gave away the swirls of doubt and confusion he was feeling. You could see his worry about a lack of consent from cumming inside you without your permission; his confusion about how he’d cum without either one of you being fully conscious.
Rolling your hips against his, you kissed him again, probing his mouth with your tongue.
“Cale...hun...it’s okay.” You repeated. “I consented to you being inside me. Did I expect to wake up to the feeling of you cumming...no...but I don’t mind it. It’s actually pretty fucking hot that your dick just decided to make itself at home, that your subconscious needed to stake its claim over me. You know I love the way it feels to have you cum inside me, so don’t feel guilty. Consider this me giving you express permission to cum inside of me whenever you want, whether I’m conscious or not. Okay hun?”
“Don’t deserve you,” Cale mumbled, seizing your lips for another kiss as his hand dropped down to your hip.
“And I mean you did promise me that one day you were going to keep me in bed and fuck me full of your seed over and over.” You recalled. “Your dick knew we both have the day off and decided to get to an early start of making good on that.”
Cale chuckled, rolling you onto your back as his expression finally settled.
“Yeah sweetheart, just keeping my promise.” He stated flatly causing you to giggle. A groan spilled from his lips at the sound and his free hand tightened its grip on your waist. “Is that what you want to do today? You want to stay in bed and have me fuck you full of my seed as many times as you can take it?”
“Fuck...Cale…” You whimpered. “Yes. Yes. God yes.”
“Alright sweetheart. We can do that.” Cale agreed. “A promise is a promise after all.” Drawing your legs up along his sides, you pulled him into a passionate kiss, your hips seeking out friction from his body. “Someone is so eager,” Cale teased. “But I suppose that’s fair considering.”
His hands slipped your shirt off of your body before he shed his own as well. Only then did he start to slowly thrust into you, his semen quickly providing easy lubrication. There was no rush to his actions, but he moved with purpose, targeting all of the spots that he’d learned about in the numerous times you’d been together. Your orgasm approached quickly but you knew that Cale wasn’t quite there yet. So when Cale slid his hand along your hip to rub his fingers against your clit, you shoved his hand away.
“Don’t wanna cum without you.” You insisted. Cale didn’t seem to know what to do with that at first but then he nodded.
“Okay sweetheart, we cum together today.” He agreed. Scraping your nails along his shoulders, you flexed your vaginal walls against him until you drew a soft grunt from his mouth. “You can let go sunshine. Gonna be right behind you.” Cale promised, the stuttering of his hips confirming that he was close. “Ready to give you another load just like you want.” At his words, your body gave in, clamping down around him.
As you started to come down, Cale’s thumb brushed over your cheeks and he kissed you, the throb of his cock and wetness of his load signaling his orgasm. There was just something about that feeling that made you shiver and you whined against his lips.
“You’re so beautiful...I love the way you react to me filling you up.” Cale boasted when he finally caught his breath. “I love you.”
“Love you too.” You whispered before becoming distracted by the feeling of Cale softening inside of you. As quickly as he pulled out, Cale grabbed the extra bed pillows from the floor, urging you to lift your hips as he slid them under you. With your hips now propped up at an angle, Cale settled between your thighs groaning at the sight of the dribble of his cum that had started to leak out of you. Collecting it on his fingers, he worked it back inside of you.
“Look at you all stretched out and full of my seed.” Cale praised, cleaning his fingers on the sheets after making sure that everything he had given you would stay inside thanks to the help of gravity. “We can’t have you losing any of my cum now can we sweetheart? You earned it so now we need to make sure it stays put.” The fire in Cale’s eyes as he watched you made you squirm, your arousal only continuing to build. “Be right back sunshine.” He declared, padding out of the bedroom. He returned a few minutes later with bottles of water and a bowl of fruit, propping your head up enough that you could take a couple drinks and eat a few bites from the bowl.
Once you had both taken care of those basic needs, Cale leaned down to kiss you again, his hand slipping down to rub over your clit. You were still so sensitive and you moaned into him.
“More please.” You pleaded, your fingers sliding down Cale’s chest. “Need you back inside me.” Settling over you again, Cale didn’t make you wait, sliding back inside you quickly. The rhythm of his thrusts was quicker than the last round and you clung to him, enjoying each jolt the friction sent through your body. It wasn’t long before you were begging him to cum inside of you again, aching for that feeling.
“Fuck...this is gonna be a big one,” Cale grunted, pulling your hips even tighter against his body.
“Wanna feel it.” You insisted. “Give me all of it.”
“You know I will.” Your boyfriend breathed. “Gotta give my girl what she wants.”
Cale seemed to get even harder inside of you as he came, pulse after pulse of semen hitting your walls as he throbbed inside of you. The sensation drew a scream from your lips as your orgasm crashed over you.
This time Cale didn’t pull out, his soft length serving as a plug to keep as much of his seed inside of you as possible. Instead, he collapsed on top of you, the weight of his body serving as the perfect blanket. Kissing him lazily, you made out for a good while before you both drifted off into a nap.
When you stirred, the sun was high in the sky and Cale was hard once more. You knew that he couldn’t have more than one or two more orgasms left in him for the day, but you were determined to make the most of it, already feeling so satisfied by the three loads he’d filled you with so far.
“You okay to go again?” Cale whispered when he realized you were awake once more. Your thighs and hips ached but you weren’t ready to tap out yet, not when you knew that he had more to give you.
“I can take it.” You assured him, your hips rolling naturally against him in confirmation. “Unless you’re too tired to keep your promise…” Your words were a challenge and Cale responded by nipping at the skin of your shoulder, leaving his mark behind.
“Watch yourself sweetheart.” He declared before pressing his lips to yours while beginning a slow grind of his pelvis against yours, his cock dragging along your walls.
Kissing him back, you basked in how everything was heightened by the sensitivity of your body after your previous two orgasms.
It didn’t take long for him to spill inside of you for a fourth time as your orgasms buttressed each other. As soon as he started to pull out you could feel the dribble of his cum leaking out of you, despite the angle of your hips.
“Look at you sweetheart.” Cale groaned. “So full of my cum that your body physically can’t hold it all no matter how badly you want it. You look so pretty like this. Pussy fluttering in an attempt to keep it all inside.” His fingers spread the globules of cum into your skin as he watched your used body twitch with aftershocks.
The spell was broken when you realized you actually needed to pee and when you finally finished in the bathroom, Cale was changing the sheets on the bed from the mess you’d made.
“You okay sweet girl?” Cale asked, “You’re walking a little funny.”
“Don’t make fun of me. Gonna feel you for days.” You mumbled, flopping onto the clean sheets as Cale finished up. The cocky smirk on his face told you that he had enjoyed that just as much as you had and you sighed softly, making note that this was definitely something that warranted repeating someday.
You’d ordered dinner in, just curling up and watching tv together. When you’d finally decided to go shower, you’d left Cale engrossed in the tv show he’d put on. But not even ten minutes into your shower he’d stepped in behind you, turning to pin you against the shower wall.
“Was thinking about this morning after you left and now I’ve got one more load ready for you if you want it,” Cale mumbled, his thumbs brushing against your nipples. He was pulsing hard against your stomach and the thought of him just using you like that was dirty but so very appealing. You knew he wasn’t suggesting it for any reason besides knowing that you enjoyed the feeling and you let out a needy whimper unconsciously. “That’s what I thought.” He teased, kissing you softly.
Just the tip of him pressed inside of you before he came and your toes curled at the feeling, contentedness filling you from head to toe. Today had been everything and more and you knew it was going to be days like this that you cherished having with Cale as the season finally got going.
Hi my favorite athletic reader. If possible could you post anything important from Baughers new article on Gabe?
lol i feel so used. it's under the cut haha
Gabriel Landeskog rolled up to the Avalanche practice rink, a 19-year-old figuring he was heading into a meeting about the upcoming 2012-13 season. A potential lockout loomed, and he wondered if he and his teammates were about to get information on what would happen next.
But only one teammate was there when Landeskog got inside Family Sports Center in Centennial, Colo.: captain Milan Hejduk. Then-Colorado coach Joe Sacco was there, too. They wanted to speak to Landeskog privately.
At the time, Hejduk was entering his 14th season with Colorado. The veteran was the only player left from the Avalanche’s 2001 Stanley Cup team, and he knew his career was winding down. He was no longer a top forward on the team and didn’t feel it would be right to remain captain. Someone else needed to take the role, Landeskog remembers Hejduk telling him that day.
“And I think that person is you,” Hejduk said.
The young winger was caught off guard. He let out a stunned laugh. At the time, no permanent captain in league history had ever been named at so young an age. A tornado of emotions followed: shock, excitement and — naturally — nerves. He called his dad immediately after the conversation.
“You’ve got to this point being who you are,” Tony Landeskog told his son. “Don’t try to be somebody you’re not.”
That advice stuck with Landeskog, and from that day forward, his “C”-embroidered jersey has been a constant for the Avalanche. It was there through the promising years with Nathan MacKinnon, Ryan O’Reilly and Matt Duchene, and it was there when that core fell apart. It was there through the pain of rebuilding, and it was there as the Avalanche emerged as a league power.
Now, its era in Denver could be coming to a close.
For the first time in his NHL career, Landeskog is a pending unrestricted free agent. And after a decade in Denver, he doesn’t know what’s coming next.
“The uncertainty is something I’ve never dealt with,” Landeskog says. “I’ve always known that come September, October, I’m going to pull on that Avs jersey.”
Landeskog has repeatedly said he wants to stay with Colorado, and the Avalanche want to bring him back. But with star defenseman Cale Makar set to receive a massive raise in restricted free agency and the Avalanche up against the salary cap, general manager Joe Sakic is facing tough decisions this offseason.
Landeskog wants long-term security. Currently, he’s in limbo.
“I can’t help but be honest with you that I’m a little bit disappointed that it’s gotten this far and it’s had to come to this point,” Landeskog says.
Now 28, Landeskog could be looking at his last chance to sign a major, multiyear contract. The Avalanche, meanwhile, must decide how much they are willing to spend — and for how many years — on a physical, two-way forward approaching 30.
Teams must submit protection lists Saturday for the July 21 Kraken expansion draft, and if Colorado doesn’t protect Landeskog, Seattle will have a window to bargain with him before free agency begins July 28. Landeskog’s reputation as a leader and production (52 points in 54 games this past season and 171 in 181 over the past three) will make him a popular target should he reach the open market. Teams like the Kraken, Blues, Kings, Flyers and Oilers jump out as potential suitors.
Talks between the Avalanche and their captain have increased in frequency in recent days, but the sides are still far away from an agreement, according to a league source.
“We’ll see what happens,” Landeskog says. “I’m still hopeful that we can agree on something and come to terms, but if it was up to me, I would have liked it to be done eight months ago, 10 months ago.”
In the nine seasons since Hejduk handed over the captaincy, Landeskog has gone from a green-but-mature up-and-comer to the calming presence on an elite team. He’s now a parent, one of the older players on the Avalanche and their unquestioned leader.
“It’s been a constant learning curve,” he says.
He’s grown, and he’s growing. The question is if that will continue with the Avalanche.
One day during his first season as captain, Landeskog stood in the Family Sports dressing room for a players-only meeting, taking note of teammates in their 30s, veterans who had spent more than a decade in the NHL. In only his second season, Landeskog could hear his voice shake.
“It probably was pretty laughable how nervous I was,” he says.
The Avalanche were in the midst of a rough stretch in what amounted to a season of rough stretches. Landeskog leaned on older players — Hejduk, Jean-Sebastien Giguere, Paul Stastny, O’Reilly and Erik Johnson, to name a few — and one suggested a team meeting.
Landeskog doesn’t recall what he said that day, but he remembers the nerves — that quiver in his voice — and how the older players had his back. Others chimed in, and the team dissected what was going wrong.
Ultimately, the group was simply a transitioning team without enough talent to contend, and though Landeskog was captain that year, the team used a leadership-by-committee approach. Landeskog credits his teammates’ support for making the job easier, and Stastny remembers him being unafraid to ask questions.
Landeskog says he asked about everything from travel-day logistics to organizing team functions. The communication didn’t translate to on-ice success that year, as the team finished 16-25-7, but it laid the groundwork for how Landeskog still views his role as captain.
“That’s how leaders learn, too: They learn from other guys,” former teammate Greg Zanon says. “I think he was born for the job.”
Before giving Landeskog the “C,” Sacco and then-Avalanche general manager Greg Sherman both reached out to Hejduk, wanting to know what he’d think of the young Swede taking over the role. Landeskog, who had just won the Calder Trophy, hadn’t been a name on Hejduk’s radar for the captaincy because of his age, but the more he thought about the decision, the more it made sense.
So he voiced his approval for the player 17 years his junior.
“What can you say negative about Gabe?” Hejduk says today.
“It was only a matter of time,” Stastny adds. “If it was fast-tracked a year, I don’t think anyone really cared. Everyone knew it was coming.”
Still, Landeskog was nervous. He’d played in only 82 NHL games and was still trying to figure out the league himself. He didn’t know how his teammates would react to such a young captain. Part of him still thinks he might not have been ready.
Despite Landeskog’s concerns, the announcement went over well with the team. Duchene and winger David Jones tweeted their congratulations, and defenseman Ryan O’Byrne remembers liking the decision when he read the news on TSN’s website.
“The only conversations I had with teammates were, ‘Gabe’s the captain. That’s so great,’” O’Byrne remembers. “Why would we wait to give him the captaincy? There’s no reason to wait. He (was) ready. He’s just that type of person.”
“Even the older guys on the team looked up to him,” adds former Avalanche left winger Cody McLeod.
Landeskog’s makeup had begun earning praise from the second he arrived in North America from Sweden. He played major junior hockey for the Kitchener Rangers in the Ontario Hockey League and became the team’s first European-born captain. Sherman praised his confidence after drafting Landeskog second in 2011, saying he was mature beyond his years.
“It was like he was 30 years old already, the way he handled himself, the way he talked to us, talked to the media,” says Ryan O’Reilly, now the Blues captain and still a friend of Landeskog’s. “Everyone respected him right away. It’s rare. It’s why he was named captain so young.”
Adds Hejduk: “I had half the maturity Gabe had at 18.”
Shortly after learning he’d become captain, Landeskog came to the Pepsi Center (now Ball Arena) for a passing-of-the-torch ceremony. Hejduk presented his successor with a burgundy Avalanche sweater featuring a white “C,” and Landeskog pulled it over his white button-up shirt. The two shook hands and posed for cameras.
When Landeskog looks back at those pictures, he can’t help but notice how young he looks. His beard had yet to grow in, and he’d fashioned his hair — lighter than it is now — to be spiky in the front.
“I feel old when I look back at those pictures, because I was definitely a little kid standing there next to (Hejduk),” he says.
“The first year, year and a half, with him, if we went out for dinner, it was like he wasn’t even allowed to have a glass of wine or a beer,” says former Avalanche center John Mitchell, adding that Landeskog struggled to win poker games on team flights.
Landeskog, who has gone from too young to drink to now sponsored by Bud Light, believes he might have been too uptight early on in his captaincy. He’s learned to relax a bit more — that a season is long and sometimes the best approach is to focus on himself. He can’t expect others to work hard or play well if he’s not doing it himself.
The Avalanche’s decision to toss Landeskog into the fray as a teenage captain allowed him to learn the role before the team entered the win-now mode it is in currently. But Colorado’s progression hasn’t been linear. In 2016-17, the Avalanche finished last in the league by 21 points. Landeskog frequently had to face tough questions from reporters when he didn’t have answers.
“It definitely takes a toll on you when you have to do that,” he says. “But at the same time, I always knew that was part of the responsibility and part of the job. Playing in the NHL, being able to wear the ‘C’ in the NHL, it’s a dream not many people get to experience.”
And in 2017-18, tides began to shift for the Avalanche. MacKinnon had his first superstar-level season, finishing second in Hart Trophy voting, and Landeskog and winger Mikko Rantanen both scored more than 20 goals. The trio ascended to become arguably the best line in hockey, and smart drafting and savvy trades gave Colorado a deep defensive core, led by Makar, the Norris Trophy runner-up as a 22-year-old this past season.
As expectations have risen, the team and its captain are still searching for a deep playoff run. The pieces are in place, and the Avalanche reached the second round each of the past three seasons. But they haven’t broken through.
This past season, the Landeskog-captained Avalanche reached the regular-season pinnacle, winning the Presidents’ Trophy, given annually to the team with the best record in the league, and they were a consensus favorite to win the Stanley Cup entering the playoffs.
Landeskog dominated the Blues in a first-round sweep, igniting the Avalanche with a Gordie Howe hat trick (fight, assist, goal) in Game 1.
“He’s the captain for a reason,” Makar said after that game.
But Colorado faltered in its next postseason matchup, against Vegas, letting a 2-0 series lead slip away and losing in the second round for the third consecutive year. The most complete Avalanche team of Landeskog’s career couldn’t get over the hump.
“I’m proud of this group,” a dejected Landeskog said after the game. “I’m excited to be a part of this group. I love all the guys in there.”
And they love him, too. Ahead of the season, MacKinnon called him “the perfect captain,” and Avalanche coach Jared Bednar described the captain as their emotional leader, someone who drives them into the fight on a nightly basis.
“Usually those types of guys, top-three picks, are franchise players,” Hejduk says. “It seems like that’s the case with Gabe. I hope he’s going to finish his whole career with the Avalanche.”
That’s what Hejduk did, spending all 14 of his seasons with Colorado, but it’s not a common path in today’s NHL.
After 10 years with the Avalanche and nine as its captain, and with so much shared history, Landeskog could be the exception.
Since he was 19, it’s felt like he would be. But the coming weeks will show if that reality has shifted.
Birthdays
Shippings-Bapen/Pensen
Rating- K+
(Fluff)
Part 1
Basen wasn’t the type to celebrate his birthdays. It wasn’t that he regretted being born or anything, he just didn’t think it was any different from any day.
‘It wasn’t that special,’ he personally thought.
However, his lover didn’t think so.
“What! You- you don’t celebrate your birthdays!?”
Basen looked at him, confused.
“Yes? What about it?”
Pen looked shocked and got up from his partner’s lap.
“So many things!? What do you mean, ‘what about it’. A birthday is meant to be celebrated. How are you alright with just not doing anything special? What about gifts?”
“Gifts? I don’t need gifts. My family already does a lot for me.”
“Eh? B-but it’s your birthday!”
“So?”
“When is your birthday, anyway?”
“In a week. Why?”
Pen’s jaw dropped.
“ A week. And you tell me now.”
Basen just stared at him.
“You never asked.”
Basen was getting under Pen’s skin.
“...But you know mine.”
Basen however, had no clue as to what was happening.
“You told me yours.”
Pen huffed.
“You were supposed to tell me too, you know?”
“Was I?”
“You really-”
Pen sighed, sometimes Basen really got on his nerves, even though that was what Pen loved about him.
“I’ll be getting you a gift for your birthday. So, do you have anything you want currently?”
“Nothing in particular.”
Pen frowned at the lukewarm response.
“Fine. I’ll get you something I can guarantee you’ll like.”
“ Don’t get me a pen. Hyung already bought me one from Capital when he was visiting.”
“Tch.”
Pen grumbled.
That was the one thing Pen had guaranteed that Basen would love. He got up from the couch and looked the other man in the eye.
“I’ll see you in a week then.”
Basen looked a little confused.
“Why? You could still visit me. I rarely get to see you anyway.”
“I’ll be busy selecting a good gift and planning a party in a week.”
“A party is unnecessary.”
Pen ignored the last statement and walked out of the room, grabbing his coat in the process.
“That idiot,” he grumbled, before remembering his first meeting with his brother.
“Just like his brother.”
***
He walked through to the roads to take a closer look at the shops. Thankfully, he had the liberty to do so, since his secret bodyguards would be insuring his protection.
‘Being under disguise isn’t that bad.’
He then spotted something that caught his eye. A monocle.
He could imagine the younger man wearing the monocle and having a permanent scowl on his face.
Pen chuckled. ‘He would look hilarious in that, but it suits him. Weird.’
He hummed as he walked down the street, eying various titbits, varying from magical equipment to clothes to flowers.
Nothing seemed to suit Basen, and though there were numerous times he was tempted to buy something and get it over with, he remembered his words and sighed, bringing him back to his goal.
“What would he like?” Pen mumbled.
“Excuse me, sir, would you like some help?”
He turned to see a very professional-looking attendant.
“Yes, I would like to see something for a seventeen-year old boy. His measurements are xxx.”
“Is it for the young lord?”
‘This woman really does have a keen eye.’
“Yes.”
The woman however, despite her stoic face, was trying not to show how nervous she was.
‘This man...He’s the prince of the Breck Kingdom, isn’t he? That face is something I’d recognize anywhere, especially since we specialize in nobility. What is he doing here?’
“Please sit here and look at these.” She led him to a room which had the prototypes of the outfits, for the demographic, and handed him a list of the outfits.
Pen looked through the list of outfits and finally, after half a day, found something that would suit Basen.
It was a gorgeous coat which he was sure would look good on Basen. The shade of brown used, had a richer color,and a lovely germanium was used as the fabric underneath, the exact color as Pen’s hair. It had no embroidery and would definitely appeal to the younger man.
He smiled at the wonderful choice.
He walked out of the store, happy at the fact he had managed to finish one of the many tedious jobs to come.
***
He headed back to the residence that the Henituse estate had prepared for him to proceed with the plan, but Pen was a little too tired and, honestly just wanted to rest. He collapsed on his bed after his arrival at the designated room, and just as his eyes were about to close, he heard a knock.
He grumbled, and reluctantly parted from his comfortable bed to open the door and see who it was.
Pen frowned.
"Well, well, well, look who it is."
Basen looked down at his lover's feet, a little flustered and still confused at the response he got.
Pen noticed this. He really wanted to smirk at his victory at proving his point, but still kept a stoic face.
"Didn't I ask you to not visit me for the time I'm here?"
"B-but I didn't know that you'd be so stubborn on that point! It's just a birthday,"
Basen protested.
"Just a birthday? It was the day you were born. It should be celebrated."
Pen sighed. His rational side tried to reason with his emotional side. He knew that Basen was a different person, but he couldn't just let it go.
'Why does he not celebrate? It's his birthday. It's a day to be celebrated. Why doesn't he get it!?'
Basen was getting frustrated. He didn't understand what the problem was, yet he was being bombarded with these comments on his life, which he believed to be completely fine. Basen knew he wasn't an emotional person. He knew that he wasn't able to understand what his partner was feeling, and so did his partner know that he couldn’t.
He just couldn't help raising his voice;
"Just tell me what's wrong already! I don't get it! I don't get these things if you don't tell me, you know that!"
Pen's eyebrows loosened and he became stiff. Though, it wasn't often Basen raised his voice, Pen never liked it when he did. He paused for a minute, took a deep breath and got his thoughts on order.
"Come in."
Basen frowned, but went through with it, taking a seat where he thought it would be appropriate to sit as a guest.
Pen walked to the tea brewer in the room,
"I'll get the tea."
"No need. I won’t be staying here for long anyway."
Pen halted and went over to take a seat right in front of Basen. They both let their eyes search the other for a while to study what they were feeling, Pen felt sorry for driving his other half, as he called him so lovingly, to such a limit. His guilt started to overtake his anger.
"I'm sorry. It was my fault."
Unfortunately, Basen was irritated, which made his vision clouded. This wasn't something that he felt that often, but the situation was just so irksome.
He looked at him in disbelief and disgust.
Pen flinched at the gaze.
"It IS your fault. Prince, we established that. Moving on," he sighed,"I think I needed some time to myself, since you're going to act like that." He snapped, as he gestured towards the door.
Pen knew instinctively that Basen was losing his temper. The feeling was icky and seeped through his organs and through his bones, slowly creeping into his heart.
'No.' He started to wave his hands in panic and also partly because of the fear of the other man's rejection.
"Please-"
"See you later, Pen. Do not follow me.Well, you won’t. Since, you don’t want to meet me anyway."
He was cut off with those icy words, his name said with such disdain, he felt as if Basen was using his name as an insult in itself.
***
Basen got up from the couch and walked out of the room. He was hurt. Even though this was such a small thing, his mind couldn't register the way Pen had treated him. He had completely trampled over his emotions and way of doing things. He needed to be away from his lover for some time, to at least cool off.
It wasn't that these kinds of arguments weren't normal and a daily occurrence, they did bicker occasionally, but this time it had gone too far. Never had he expected Pen to follow his way of life, nor did he think Pen would want him to do so. Pen was a person who was not that accepting, Basen knew that, but still he believed that some things were different about them and those had to be accepted.
He walked down the staircase to find a maid or a butler.Instead, he saw a familiar face, yet found it unusual to see at home.
"Hyung!"
He walked quickly to close in on the distance between them.
The older man looked down at him with a cold expression.
"Basen," his cool voice responded.
"Will you be staying for long?"
"No. I'll be leaving after dinner.”
“Alright. I'll just let you know that Mother would like to see you.” Basen wasn’t surprised, since he was used to this.
He walked past Cale, who noticed that his younger brother who he wasn’t that close with, was odd. since he did promise Og! Cale to take care of his younger brother, he asked him about what happened, but not that much not to encroach on his privacy.
“You look depressed. Did something happen?”
Basen stiffened, but nodded and walked out of the residence.
Cale felt a bit concerned, even though he didn’t show it on his face.
***
Basen went into his room, all his energy had been sapped and he brewed himself some tea and took a seat on his bed. He gradually sipped on it, emptying the cup, taking his time. He huffed the steam coming out of the cup. He needed to calm his nerves. The tea he was drinking, Earl Grey, was also introduced to him by Pen. He unconsciously found himself smiling and remembering the times Pen had got him the tea, not to forget, the first time he had got it for him.
‘He was so excited,’ he thought, he looked at his reflection in the tea and frowned remembering the events that had just taken place. He felt the tea in his mouth go bitter.
“I need rest.”
He mumbled.
He quickly gulped down the entire cup and kept the cup on his side table, before falling over in his bed. He could feel a headache coming over him. He exhaled sharply.
“I’m tired. That’s all it is.” He mumbled, trying to ignore the thoughts running rampant in his mind.
His eyelids drooped, shutting his thoughts along with his eyes.
Mittens | Tyson Jost
Summary Requests: you never wear mittens so i knit you a pair and leave them for you to find as a gift from an anonymous person because i’m shy
and
your family ditches you for the holiday so i take you home with me, except my family thinks we’re dating now, and i don’t know how to tell them that we’re not Word Count: 3.8k Note: this is dedicated to @thesmutpeasant‘s knitting behaviour
---
When you finished your PR degree, you wouldn’t have said that working for a hockey team was your ultimate dream. You didn’t even know hockey. But working for the Avs has pretty much been the best time of your life, so far.
Where else could you spend an hour of your work day talking about Christmas gifts?
So far, the boys have decided that for Christmas, Gabe needs to get some hairspray, Z needs a new wardrobe, and Mikko needs a girlfriend.
“What about Tyson?” you ask JT. “Have you gotten him a present yet?”
JT laughs. “No, I haven’t, but I think someone should get him a blanket or something. He’s not good with the cold.” “Hey, fuck you!” Tyson yells from the other side of the room. “It’s freezing here, we can’t all be cold blooded like you!” JT huffs. “He says that, but he’s dressed like he lives in California or something. Never wears a hat, or gloves. And then he complains about the cold all the time. One night he even asked if he could have my duvet.” “That was in Winnipeg, and you know how cold Winnipeg is,” Tyson protests. “Besides, I asked you to cuddle me warm first, but you said no.” It’s teasing, and JT rolls his eyes, but you know Twitter is gonna explode at this. “Thanks boys,” you say, putting down the mic, and the cameras finally leave the room. “What do you want for Christmas, Y/N?” Tyson asks. Out of all the boys - although you would never admit it - you like Tyson the most. He’s always chatting with you when the cameras turn off, and he asks you things like he cares about the answer. You’ve become friends, in the past few months. He’s also really cute. You shrug. “Some sleep would be good,” you say, because it’s been a long road trip, and Tyson laughs. “Same.” --- The next morning Tyson brings you a cup of coffee to the plane. “How is she gonna sleep on the plane now?” Burky teases, and Tyson turns bright red. You make sure to take a picture of Burky from an unflattering angle in retaliation on Tyson’s behalf. Not that it necessarily makes Burky look any worse - that guy doesn’t have bad angles - but it’s the thought that counts. You sleep on the plane and keep yourself busy during the day, but when the evening rolls around, you sit in your quiet apartment and busy your hands as your mind winds down. Knitting may sounds like a grandma hobby, but it calms you down, thank you very much, and it means you’ve always got a personal gift for someone. For Christmas, your grandma has asked for a scarf, your mom wants a hat, and your aunt asked if you can knit a romper for your few months old niece. You have no idea how to do that, but surely you can figure it out. However, today, you don’t really feel like knitting any of those. Knitting those requests feels a little too much like work, right now, and you wanna knit just to knit. You don’t even realize you’re knitting mittens until you’re halfway through the first one. You don’t need mittens; you’ve got a good selection of them, a wide variety of colors. You remember your talk with JT and Tyson, yesterday. There’s someone who needs them. --- It’s weird, that’s something you’re sure of. To just give Tyson a Christmas gift, a handmade Christmas gift, and not have anything for the other guys. They would chirp you to hell and back and you’re not sure you’re ready for everyone to know about your teeny tiny crush on number 17. However, you can’t deny the fact that you knitted these mittens with only one person in mind, and it would feel weird to give them to anyone else. So, one morning, when Pepsi Center is still dark and there’s nobody around, you put them in Tyson’s stall without a note and decide to never think about it again. Which would be easier if you’re not the one having to do pregame interviews that day. “So, the Blues are obviously the reigning Stanley Cup champions...” - EJ pulls a face and you can’t help but agree - “how can you make sure you take the two points here tonight?” “Probably score some goals,” EJ says with a deadpan voice and a wide toothless grin, and you’re about to yell at him for being an awful person to interview when there’s a loud noise on the opposite side of the locker room. “Ah, sick!” The entire room turns to Tyson, who is beaming with excitement and looking at the mittens in his hands. “Someone got me gloves!” “Those aren’t gloves, those are mittens,” Cale says wisely. Tyson stares at him for a few seconds, then obviously decides to ignore him. “There’s no note,” he wonders out loud, and you really, really hope your blush isn’t too noticeable. EJ’s eyes are a little too fixed on your face. “Maybe it’s a secret admirer,” Mikko offers. “Maybe it’s someone who’s just as sick about you complaining about the cold as I am,” JT says. “Where are my mittens?” Z ponders. “You’re not getting any, you don’t deserve them,” says Nate, and Z goes to put him in a headlock. The boys start arguing about why they do or do not deserve mittens and EJ turns back to you. “So,” he says, “any more questions?” --- The boys win in OT and there’s excitement radiating through the locker room. You’re not doing the postgame; Lauren is, but you follow her around anyway, mostly because you love the locker room after a win. The happiness is contagious, and you find yourself smiling all evening. Most of the guys have gone home when Lauren packs up her final stuff. “What a game to end with before Christmas, huh?” she says, giving you a quick hug. “Merry Christmas, Y/N!” “You sure you don’t want to come?” JT’s voice is filled with enough worry that it catches your attention. You pretend to focus on packing your bag, the door slamming shut behind Lauren as she leaves. It’s just you, JT and Tyson, now. “Nah, man, it’s okay.” Tyson sounds a little down, which is not what you would’ve expected, after he scored to put them into OT earlier. “You’re with your girl, and I don’t wanna be a third wheel. I’ll be fine.” “But you can’t be alone on Christmas.” JT is clearly indignant.
You’re just standing up when Tyson gives JT a playful shove. “Go, Comph. Go have a fun Christmas. I’ll be chill here.” JT rolls his eyes but gives Tyson a quick bro hug. As he’s leaving the locker room, he sends you a smile, a “happy holidays” and then he’s gone. You turn to Tyson.
“You’re staying here for the holidays?” Tyson shrugs as he puts on his coat. It’s not nearly thick enough to be a winter coat, and he’s not wearing a scarf. He does however, take the mittens and put them on his hands. “My mom is on a cruise and Kacey is celebrating Christmas at her boyfriend’s house. Everyone is leaving me alone this year.” He’s trying to sound light, like he’s joking, but there’s a sharp edge in his voice that tells you it matters more to him than he’s willing to let on.
Something squeezes in your chest. Nobody should be alone on Christmas. “My family is coming to my apartment on Christmas Eve to have dinner, do you want to come?” You blurt it out before really thinking it through; it’s probably gonna be hard to explain to your parents, that you’re suddenly having a guy over for Christmas, and maybe Tyson will think it’s weird that you’re asking him: you just heard him tell JT no, so why would you think he wants to come hang out with you? But when you brave looking up at him, Tyson is smiling widely. “You sure?” he asks. “Is it not too much trouble? I can help you cook if you want. Or, you probably don’t want that, because I suck at cooking, but I can do whatever else you need me to do. I’d bring gifts for all your family, of course, and…” He’s rambling, and it’s cute. “Tys,” you interrupt him, and you can’t help how fond you sound. “They’ll love having you around. My dad is always saying it’s not fair, four girls and one guy, and my sister is bringing her girlfriend, so I could use a partner in crime, too.” “Okay, that’d be awesome,” Tyson says truthfully, “thanks so much, Y/N.” He smiles at you brightly and then puts on his mittens. “Dude, these are so warm, I love them.” You nearly promise to make him a hat and scarf too, but then you figure you might’ve exceeded your maximum amount of weird for the day by inviting him to Christmas dinner, so you quietly follow him out to the parking lot while he excitedly chatters about Christmas movies. --- It’s the morning of Christmas Eve and you’re this close to having a mental breakdown. Your house is a mess; you figured you didn’t need to clean it, your family has seen it all, but now Tyson is coming and you would like him to not think you’re the biggest slob in the world. Also, there’s the fact that an extra mouth to feed means more food necessary, so you have to go to the store and get more groceries. All in all it means that when your doorbell rings, you’re still wearing an old Avs hoodie and leggings, and you’re pretty sure there’s cookie dough in your hair because you decided you needed dessert after all. It’s not like Tyson gets to sin all the time. Christmas is as good an excuse as any. “Hey,” Tyson smiles. He’s looking annoyingly nice, wearing a grey jumper and dark blue slacks. As soon as he sees the state of you, he frowns. “What is that in your hair?” “Cookie dough,” you tell him honestly. “You look nice.” “Thanks,” Tyson grins proudly, “I Facetimed Kacey to pick out the colors.” He walks into your apartment like he’s been there a million times before, pushes a bottle of wine into your hands and starts unpacking the bag with presents he brought, putting them under the tree. “Am I early?” “A little,” you admit. “I, uhm, kinda still need to shower. You know, get the cookie dough out of my hair.” You think about it, for a few seconds, then decide that you can trust Tyson with this one thing. “Can you take the cookies out of the oven in 10 minutes so I can shower?” Tyson nods, throws you a thumbs up and then parks his butt on the couch like that’s where he belongs.
It makes you feel... things. And, well, you might take a little longer to get ready – putting a little more effort in your make up and hair than you would’ve if it had just been your family - but the last thing you expect when you come back in is for everything to be ready. Except it is. There’s candles lit on your coffee table and the presents are all under the tree. Your mom has a glass of wine in her hands and greets you with a “honey, there you are!” Your sister and her girlfriend aren’t there yet, but your dad is standing at the dining table with Tyson. The dining table is fully laid and Tyson has a half eaten cookie in his hand. “Sorry,” he grins, when he spots you. “They just looked too good not to touch.” You must’ve been staring at the scene a little sheepishly, cause your mom laughs. “You okay there, honey?”
“Uh yeah,” you bring out. “I see you met Tyson?” Your mom’s face instantly brightens. “Oh yes, we have, but if you want to do proper introductions…” For a split second, you panic, because you don’t actually know how to introduce Tyson – a friend? A coworker? You can’t really say an unreachable crush – but you’re saved by the door bell. “Y/N!” your sister says, giving you a quick sideways hug. “Amy and I brought some extra wine, in case you didn’t have enough booze and we have to listen to dad talk about baseball all evening while sober…” She stops dead in her tracks as soon as she sees Tyson. “Oh, hello.” “Thanks, Meg,” you mumble. “We uh, have enough, probably, cause Tyson brought some too.” Meg turns to you, wiggling her eyebrows. “A boy that brings wine? Keep him around, will ya.” You’re about to tell her to shut up, when your mom stands up. “Time for dinner!” --- It turns out Tyson fits in with your family right away, and you’re not even halfway through the night when you realize your catastrophically big mistake. Seeing him like this, as if he’s an integral part of your life already, does nothing to help your massive crush on him. Because Tyson is perfect. He talks sports with your dad and interior design with your mom – “My mom used to redecorate our place every year or so, you pick up some stuff” – and falls into a flawless routine of teasing you with Meg. He tops up glasses, passes the salt without being asked, and every now and then he sends you a smile that has your stomach turn in your body. It’s not until after dinner, when you’re standing in the kitchen with your mom, cleaning dishes, that you understand your mistake has been even bigger than you thought. “I’m so happy for you, sweetheart,” your mom coos. She’s looking at you with fond eyes. “I was worried, you know, that you never introduced us to a boy or girl. I don’t want you to be lonely here in Denver. But Tyson is such a lovely guy. You can tell he really loves you.” You can… what? “Oh, no, mom,” you stutter, “he’s not… He doesn’t…” “Oh, but he does,” she interrupts. “I see it in the way he looks at you, you know. When a person really loves someone, it’s in their eyes. And Tyson looks at you with love. You deserve someone who cares about you, babe, and I’m just so happy you’ve got someone here in Denver, when we’re so far away. I just don’t want you to be alone.” And, fuck, your mom clearly thinks you’re dating Tyson, and you realize you still haven’t introduced him properly to your family, of course they think you’re dating, who brings home a guy to Christmas for platonic reasons? You know you should tell her that you’re not dating, you know that, but she looks so genuinely happy, and you know if you tell her now it’ll break her heart. Quietly, you sneak a glance towards the living room. Your dad laughs at something Tyson says while Tyson ruffles through Meg’s hair. She swats at him, and Amy is smiling. Every single one of them would be upset to hear that Tyson is nothing more than a crush that’s way out of your league.
You know you have to tell them. But maybe just not tonight. Maybe, just for one Christmas, you can let them be happy. “Thanks, mom,” you force out a smile and your mom returns to the dishes. It’s not even a few seconds later that Tyson wanders into the kitchen. “Hey,” he smiles, “can I help?” He leans into you and puts a hand on the small of your back and your heart flutters and it’s innocent, sure it is, he’s just trying to be friendly, but your mom gives you a knowing look as she says: “Sure, you guys finish up here,” and demonstratively closes the kitchen door behind her, leaving the two of you alone. “Your family is awesome,” Tyson grins, as he starts to dry the dishes. “Meg tells me you guys go skiing every February. Me and Kacey usually try to go during bye week, Meg said maybe we can go together!” And something inside of you bursts. “My family thinks we’re dating.” Tyson frowns, puts the plate he was drying down. “Oh, really?” He doesn’t sound upset by the fact, simply curious, and you sigh. You’re gonna have to explain this one. “I guess I just didn’t really think to tell them who you are or like, what we are? And so they just saw that I invited a guy to Christmas and they assumed that we’re together. They absolutely love you, Tys, and they always worry so much about me having a boyfriend, and I just…” You pause; you know you’re turning red and it’s impossible to get out the words. “Hey, it’s okay,” Tyson says gently. He reaches out, his hand landing on your arm in a gesture of comfort. “You don’t have to tell them now. We can just… date.” He flushes. “Fake date, I mean. For tonight. Or, like, however long you need us to.” “Really?” you ask, relieved, and Tyson laughs. “Don’t sound so surprised. As if it’s such a hardship, to pretend to be your boyfriend.” He shoots you a wink, puts the final plate away and wanders back to the living room. Leaving you absolutely stunned, wondering what just happened. --- “Gifts!” Meg says, clasping her hands together. “The true meaning of Christmas!” Your mom gives her a disapproving look, but even your dad is eyeing the presents under the tree with a little too much interest. “I’ll go first,” Tyson says with shining eyes, “being the new one in the family, and all that.” “Ah, yay, it’s not me anymore,” Amy giggles, and you swear to God you are going to die. Somehow, despite not knowing your family, Tyson nailed his gifts. Your dad is over the moon with his new slippers, your mom keeps sniffing the scented candle he gives her, and Meg smacks Tyson across the head with the Avalanche beanie he got her, until she notices there’s two tickets to a musical that Amy has been wanting to see in there.
You’re a little jealous, because you love gifts like that, until Tyson hands you an envelope. “I heard you tell Gravy how much you like them,” he says, and he sounds a little off. Nervous, even. “And if you need a plus one…” He wiggles his eyebrows and laughs, but even his giggle comes out a little nervous. In the envelope is two tickets to your favorite band, who are playing in Denver next month. You didn’t end up getting tickets cause they were sold out stupidly quickly and were ridiculously expensive in resale. “Oh my God, Tys, that’s way too much,” you tell him in awe, but Tyson just shrugs. “No use for an NHL salary if you can’t spend it on the people you care about.” It sounds weirdly genuine, a deeper level of something ringing through, but it’s way too much to unpack right now. You feel a little stupid about your gift for him, now – a nice wallet cause his old one looks like it’s been through a lot – although Tyson seems really happy with it, even gives you a hug to say thank you. For the rest of your family, you’ve got a normal gift and something knitted, as extra, and it’s not until you catch sight of the deep frown on Tyson’s face that you realize something. Fuck. You forgot about the fucking mittens. “Isn’t it cute, Tyson?” your mom says, as she wraps the scarf you made her around her neck. “She always knits people gifts. I swear it’s her way of saying how much she loves them. She spends so much time on these.” She pauses. “I mean, you’ve probably been with her while she makes them, you know.” “Yeah,” says Tyson, slowly, although you know he has no clue. After that, it’s like you can’t even really enjoy the rest of the night; you can’t focus on the Christmas movie Meg puts on, can’t focus on how cute it is when she cuddles up with Amy, can’t focus on how fondly your mom is smiling down at you or your dad’s soft snores as he falls asleep halfway through. You can focus on Tyson’s thigh pressed against yours, and how you have no idea how to explain to him why you knitted him those mittens. Finally, your mom stands up, gently kicks your dad’s legs, and smiles at you. “I think it’s time for us to go,” she says. “I’m sure you two wants to enjoy some part of Christmas Eve in privacy, too.” “Mom,” you scold her, feeling your cheeks heat up. Tyson grins at you. By the door, as your mom gives you a hug, she whispers: “He’s a keeper, honey,” and you nearly tell her everything. “Yeah, he’s alright,” Meg says way too loudly, and you hear Tyson giggle in the background and you decide to shut up. The door closes behind them and immediately, Tyson stretches out on the couch. “Ah,” he says. “I’m pretty good at impressing the in laws, no?” You don’t remind him that they’re not actually his in laws. Instead, you fall back onto the couch and groan. “Are you not gonna make fun of me for knitting you mittens and leaving them anonymously in your stall?” you ask, because you might as well get over it. Tyson frowns. “Why would I do that? Those mittens rock, my hands haven’t been cold since.” You blush. “Yeah, but, don’t you think it’s weird that I made those? I didn’t make any for the rest of the team.” For a second, he seems to think about that. Then he moves a little closer, his hand coming to rest on your thigh. Electricity zips through your veins at the contact. “I kinda hoped that meant something,” Tyson says slowly. “Tell me if I’m wrong?” You only had two glasses of wine but you feel like your world is spinning as Tyson moves closer tauntingly slowly. Finally, his lips touch yours, and you understand every cliché ever written into any romantic Christmas movie. When his hand moves to your thigh, settles on the skin right below the hem of your dress, you yelp.
“How are your hands still cold?”
Tyson chuckles. “I mean, I haven’t been wearing my mittens, so...”
---
Years later, you’re laying on the couch with your daughter, watching a Christmas movie after having just set up the tree.
“Daddy, what was your favorite Christmas present Santa ever gave you?” your daughter asks.
Tyson sends you a private look above her head, then focuses on her.
“A pair of hand knitted mittens.”
“Like the one mommy made me?” she asks, and he grins.
“Yeah, kinda like that.”
So I just wanna make a huge, and I mean massive, thank you post for all y’all that came out and supported me during my liveblogging of finishing The Calling over the last couple days. It’s honestly been the best part of being stuck in bed sick and it actually made me want to finish that bound--forgive my language here--piece of crap. (If you wanna see the posts, you can find it all under #Fiend attacks The Calling and spoilers are tagged, just in case.)
For anyone who’s interested in me doing it again, the other two DA books I haven’t read right now are Asunder and The Masked Empire and you can let me know via ask, message, reply, or whatever, which one should be done next (though I think I know which one might win).
If you replied to any of my posts and didn’t get a shitty personal reply I tried to do through mobile, I am literally gonna put them all here, under the cut (and if you have the time, I feel like it’s worth looking through all of them because some people said interesting things and I like to think I can be pretty funny with my responses. lol). Lmao.
Thanks for enjoying this mess of a book with me! When I first started venting my frustrations, I low-key thought I’d be slamming a book everyone loved. Lol. I’m glad I was wrong.
@inuy21 replied to her own reply post: I’ll have to give Stolen Throne a look to see if will change my mind Loghain. Though I wasn’t really a fan of his in the game nor Maric’s in The Calling. And it’s Empress Celene, right? LOL
Nah, that book is actually called The Masked Empire. It’s the one where allegedly Celene and Michel de Chevin are The Worst™.
Anyways, do at least take a look at Stolen Throne because Loghain is 15/10 in that, honestly. I hated him too until I read that book and now I’m in love.
@thexann replied to Why do I hate David Gaider’s book’s so much?: The only good thing his books did for me were make me unconditionally love Loghain, but even then, his writing was so difficult to give a damn about I skipped around the ENTIRETY of The Stolen Throne, read all the good Loghain bits, then never picked it up again!
Same! High five for solidarity sisterrr!!
Skipping around, that was smart. That could’ve saved me a lot of Maric moaning and complaining as he destroyed not one, not two, but THREE of his friends’ lives. WHat a swell guy!
@october-rosehip (I hate it when it doesn’t TAG PEOPLE!!) replied to the same post: Dude needs an editor, BAD. He also suffers from… severe need for someone to hide his thesaurus. He’s written about people sitting redolently, smoking *kohl*, and once, three elves were playing HARPSICHORDS in a town center. Outdoors. Also, pacing issues. Dude has great ideas, but he’s not a novelist. Or historian.
He does! I’m surprised he didn’t have one? Isn’t everyone supposed to have one? Or did it not matter because he was riding on the coattails of a successful game of a hopeful franchise?
But yeah, I noticed that too. There’s overly conspicuous complex words, like he actually went into Word processor and tried to find the biggest word he could to replace his plain English ones. Causing no one to understand him. I mean harpsichords?? outside?? Has he ever SEEN a harpsichord??? Gaider wtf man... I look forward to that nonsense.
@cullenstairshenanigans replied to Dusty. Everything is “dusty” with this guy.: I quit after the 20th use of “the man”
Oh yeah. I saw that. He was notorious for that.
Don’t be afraid! Use people’s names! Do you realize how many men there were in this book?? Especially at the beginning?! Use. Names. There’s some free writing advice for ya, Gaider.
@october-rosehip replied to the same post: Oh, I guess someone DID steal his thesaurus.
Lmao. Only when it wasn’t convenient. Not only did he use “dusty” for everything, he also believes that the only noise swords make is a “clatter,” be it a “dull clatter” or a “clear clatter” (literally both phrases he used in the same scene!) Not to mention that he also thinks warriors just drop their swords willy nilly all over the place, as if they aren’t the most important singular possession to a SWORDSMAN.
@oh-thatcal replied to “She had never spoken of this to anyone.”: if you wanna rage, just read The Masked Empire… OTL these books are both good and awful at the same time.
I am actually rather beside myself with excitement tbqh.
@bombasticpro replied to Oh god now Maric is doing it too…: Dat dab
Now I’m not sure if I’m Young and Hip™ enough to understand this correctly, but I’ll go out on a limb and say, “Yeah, I know right??”
Maric and Fiona bled their hearts out to each other for literally no reason. Do real life people actually do this? I don’t go around spilling my deepest secrets. Maybe it’s just that no one has gained enough Approval to unlock my Tragic Backstory™ yet.
@oblivionscribe replied to Maric has been stabbed by several spears...: For all the head trauma Maric received, I’m surprised he lasted long enough to sire sons.
Me too. I seem to recall that this isn’t new either, that Maric was often receiving head trauma in The Stolen Throne too!
What I would like to know is why is no one wearing a fucking helmet???
@thecrazyfereldan replied to I think that I’m starting to see one...: His writing also tends to be rather dry.
TRUE. It’s hard to read. Like, I read his story the way I would eat beef jerky: slowly, in near agony because I like the taste but hate the texture, and with my jaw aching because I had to chew so god damn much. And in the end, it’s for what? A steak tastes better, is easier to eat and is still beef.
(the steak in this metaphor is a DA game btdubbs, lol)
But seriously, it goes right up there with show and don’t tell. Telling only takes me to Snoozeville.
@october-rosehip replied to the same post: Dislocated thumbs continue to dislocate for MONTHS if you keep using your hands. Guess how I know. Also? Putting them back in hurts just as much as putting them out in the first place.
Oh, yikes!! I am so sorry there, friend. But, yeah, I can see that because my jaw still gives me trouble. Not that it redislocates, but it’ll pop sometimes and it HURTS.
So that means that Duncan would have been in WAY more trouble by doing that to himself. Imagine being a rogue who’s thumbs kept dislocating??? Especially when he was trying to pick the locks on their manacles again in the climax?
And when Duncan popped his thumbs back in, all he said about it was that second quote (“He took a moment to get used to the stabbing pain…”). That was it.
Gaider, I can only suspend my disbelief so far, bro.
@oh-thatcal replied to @starlanellfic ‘s post about my liveblogging: Do all the books!
Dude... I kinda want to...
Although I wouldn’t do Stolen Throne again only because it would probably crumble into me fangirling over Loghain which no one, except maybe @@element-104 , would want to see. lol.
@ma-sulevin replied to Okay, so, as much as I sorta like Duncan...: My personal favorite part is when the mage asks him about Grey Warden stamina and he’s like “uhh….. YES yes we do have that let me show you”
*snorts* omg YES. It was classic! Predictable, but classic, and I was totally willing to accept that from him. xD
@ma-sulevin replied to WHY DID SHE KISS HIM I AM SO MAD... : It literally made no sense
I’m still mad. I haven’t gotten over it. There was no romance until that happened and even that was forced af. Not one piece of it felt real. At least I can thank the Maker that he didn’t write about Fiona “boobing boobily down the stairs” or any of that other male gaze nonsense.
@thesecondsealwrites replied to Duncan has an obsidian dagger. Smh.: \o/
Bless you, PonySeal. I feel like you might’ve already figured this was a peeve of mine. Lol.
@queenofeire replied to the same post: 0/10 against any kind of armor Hella sharp for 5-10 cuts then pretty much useless….
^^Yup, basically.
Granted, it ended up being magical? But if that mage didn’t enchant it with an Unbreakable spell, chances are it’s still useless. Fite me.
And @fenriswaifu? You’re welcome. :) Sorry if I ruined your Aesthetic.
@valammar replied to Gaider keeps using the word “almost.”: I’m still cackling at the last line of this post.
Look, I’m still VERY angry about obsidian knives, okay?? lmao. Volcanic glass IS GLASS, it’s not ALMOST GLASS. It is.
It is.
@amarmeme replied to Well that resolved neatly...: yea, that book was… not my cup of tea
Mine either. Of the three DA books I have now read, The Caling is my least favorite. And by least favorite, I mean it was awful. Sorry to those who love it.
And that’s all te replies for now. LMao.
#Fiend attacks The Calling#Fiend replies#if you see your name there's a reply for you#because not everyone tagged proper#lol#this took forever#amarmeme#valammar#queenofeire#thesecondsealwrites#ma-sulevin#oblivionscribe#oh-thatcal#october-rosehip#thecrazyfereldan#bombasticpro#cullenstairshennanigans#inuy21#thexann#thanks for sharing this experience with me everyone!
Cutting Edge ~ Nathan MacKinnon Ch. 3
A/N: Hey everyone, thanks for all the love on the last chapter! I loved seeing that you enjoyed it! Also thank you to @pumpkinpatchmakar and @pizzasloot for your kind words after my update post <3
I do know where the story is going, and I’m excited to write it all out! Just bare with me, between school and my heart being broken, it might take longer between chapters but I will get to them!
Tags are open, just let me know! Enjoy!
Prologue Ch.1 Ch.2
Nate was halfway to his apartment when his phone rang; an incoming call from his captain. “What’s up?” he asked as he answered.
“Where have you been? I’ve been trying to get ahold of you for the past hour,” Gabe asked. Nate now realized that he had seen all those calls and texts, but after getting your number he forgot about them. He cleared his throat.
“Sorry Landy. I was at the rink with Y/N,” he stated, unsure of what the captain’s response would be. When Gabe remained quiet, Nate became a bit nervous. “You there?”
“Y/N? As in Coach Y/L/N, Y/N?” he asked, and Nate could hear Gabe’s amusement over the phone.
“Yes,” he answered shortly. Gabe laughed.
“What happened? Practice ended 3 hours ago, what have you guys been doing…or do I even want to ask?” Gabe said suspiciously.
“It was nothing like that. I heard someone still on the ice when I was about to leave and went to see who it was. It turned out to be Y/N and she was just skating around and asked me to skate with her,” Nate explained as he pulled into his apartment complex.
“Oh, so she’s just Y/N now? Seems like you two got close,” Gabe chuckled. Nate groaned as he parked. Maybe telling Landy wasn’t the smartest thing. “Please tell me you at least asked for her number or something before you left.”
“I did actually. I asked her as we were leaving,” Nate said, quieter than he needed to.
“Wow, okay. She’s definitely got you interested, doesn’t she?” Gabe sounded amused on the other end. Nate mumbled out a yes, knowing he wasn’t going to be living this down anytime soon. He was happy with the little progress he made with you, but now he was sure Landy would look for any reason to bring you around, not that Nate wouldn’t enjoy seeing more of you anyways though. “Well, I guess that brings me to why I was calling in the first place. Mel and I are taking Linnea on a hike on Sunday and we’re inviting some of the guys to go since everyone is pretty much back in town. I was inviting you, and I think you should see if Y/N wants to come. I don’t think she really knows anyone here yet, and Mel wants to meet her. After I tell her about your afternoon she’s going to be dying to meet her,” Gabe chuckled. Nate perked up hearing that he had a legitimate excuse to text you right away, instead of trying to play it cool.
“Yeah, I can ask her,” he said, a little too eagerly.
“Great! And make sure you pick her up. She doesn’t need to drive when she doesn’t know where anything really is,” Gabe suggested, knowing his friend lacked skills in the romance department. Nate rolled his eyes, but he was grinning at the thought of seeing you away from the rink.
“I know Landy. I’ll text her and see. I’ll let you know,” he said as he entered his apartment and plopped down onto his couch, saying goodbye as his captain became distracted by his daughter.
On the other side of the city, you had fallen onto your own couch and immediately got on facetime. “Superstar! How are you doing sweetie?” Jeremy asked.
“I think I just gave Nathan MacKinnon my number,” you said in one breath, throwing a pillow over your head. Jeremy laughed.
“You think?” he asked. You threw the pillow off and looked at him.
“I gave him my number. I stayed after to skate and he was still there and I have no idea where I got the courage but I asked him to skate with me and I taught him some skating, he taught me some hockey, and it was just really fun and then he asked me for my number…” you rambled off.
“Hey, deep breath Y/N. That sounds like you both had a nice time. And is it really so bad to give an attractive hockey player your number?” Jeremy tried to be sympathetic because he could see the wheels spinning in your head. He had known you for too long to not know where this was going.
“He’s on the Avs though Jer. I’m technically his coach. How is that ever going to work?” you asked.
“I don’t know Y/N, I wish I could tell you. But it seems like you are starting to like this guy, and if he likes you too then I’m sure you can figure it out. Don’t overthink it. I’ve seen you do that a few times, always putting your career first. And although that worked then, you can’t keep running from everything outside of the rink,” Jeremy tried to reason with you.
“I know,” you said, knowing he was right.
“And know that whatever does or does not happen, I will be here as your biggest supporter,” he said. You smiled at him.
“Thanks Jer. Sorry, I don’t know why I freaked out,”
“Because you are starting to like him,” Jeremy smirked. Your phone chimed and you briefly caught the text from a number you didn’t know at the top. Tapping on it, you saw that it was from Nate. Before you could read anything else, Jeremy laughed. “And I’m guessing that is him?” You nodded.
“I guess some of the team are going on a hike Sunday and he wants to know if I want to go,” you stated, your smile growing.
“I want to hear all about this hike when you get home,” Jeremy said. “Hang up with me and text your Doug Dorsey back.”
“This is not the premise of Cutting Edge,” you laughed at his mention of one of the main characters. Jeremy shrugged.
“He’s a hockey player. You’re a figure skater. Close enough,” he said, before saying goodbye as he had to run to a team meeting. You hung up and opened up Nate’s text. It read: Hey Y/N, it’s Nate. Some of the guys are going on a hike on Sunday and I was wondering if you would like to join us? Mel, Gabe’s wife, is going and he said she’s been wanting to meet you. If you have plans no worries. Just thought I would ask. You smiled, seeing as you had no plans for the weekend beside finishing unpacking and would rather spend some time getting to know the team better…and Nate.
Y/N: Hi! That sounds like fun. I would love to go as long I wasn’t intruding on a team thing. You answered. You were a little worried that your presence would be unwelcomed, being a coach. Your phone pinged with another message.
Nate: No you wouldn’t be. You were about to reply when a text bubble popped up, and the following appeared. I would like for you to be there. You were happy this wasn’t in person as your face became flushed.
Y/N: When and where? 😊 Nate texted you to be ready at 9am on Sunday, and told you where you would be going. He said he would pick you up, and you gave him your address. And as the day continued, you continued to talk with him. Saturday came, and neither of you had technically said goodbye as you fell asleep texting him the night before, so Nate didn’t feel like it was too much, too soon to continue your conversation the next morning. You were giddy when Sunday morning came and you were getting ready. You felt that you had gotten to know him a little more and were excited to spend some more time with him. Right on time at 9 in the morning, there was a knock on your door. You looked in the mirror, fixing your hair quickly before answering it. Nate stood there in basketball shorts and a t-shirt, holding two cups of Starbucks. “Good morning,” he smiled as he handed one to you.
“Morning!” you replied as you took a sip, humming contently as you tasted the pumpkin spice latte. “Is this why you asked what I liked from Starbucks?” Nate shrugged as you turned away to grab your jacket off the back of your couch.
“I’m just hoping you’ll forget about making me do those extra laps tomorrow,” he teased as he looked around your apartment. It was small, but not too small, with a few boxes still sitting in the corner. “Are you still not unpacked?” You let out a sigh.
“I have too much crap. I need another bookshelf,” you shook your head and took another sip, exiting your apartment. “But flattery will get you everywhere in my book. I may overlook your extra laps.” Nate chuckled as you locked the door behind you and followed him to visitor parking. You blushed slightly as he held the passenger door to his car open for you. The both of you sat in comfortable silence for a moment as he started to drive, enjoying your coffee. “So, who’s all going today?” You finally asked.
“Landy and Mel, Tyson, Burky, and Cale I believe. Landy invited pretty much everyone since we’re all back in town, but I think everyone else was busy,” Nate explained. You nodded.
“Well I’m excited. Thanks for inviting me to tag along,” you smiled over at him.
“Of course,” Nate smiled over at you quickly. You kept casual conversation as you made it to the outskirts of Denver and what looked like would be a pretty hike to an overlook. Nate parked and off to the side you saw Gabe with a beautiful woman and a toddler in one of those carrier packs standing under a tree. As you made your way over, Nate leaned down and whispered. “Don’t let Gabe start showing you pictures of Linnea; you’ll be sitting there for like 3 hours.” You giggled, catching the attention of Gabe. The woman who you assumed was his wife, turned also and smiled widely.
“You must be Coach Y/L/N. I’m Mel, it’s nice to meet you!” She said, pulling you into a side hug as to not squish her daughter.
“Y/N. It’s nice to meet you too!” You replied, barely missing the not so subtle wink Gabe sent Nate.
“Hey Coach, glad you could join us” Gabe said, “This is our daughter Linnea,” he introduced the little blonde haired, blue eyed girl. You smiled at her tired little face.
“She’s absolutely adorable!” You squealed looking at the little girl. You weren’t necessarily a kid person yet, still being in your early 20s, but this little one was just too cute! Just then the others showed.
“Eww who invited our coach?” Tyson grinned at you. You made a face at him, about to respond before Gabe beat you to it.
“I’d rather have her here than you,” he said as Tyson feigned hurt. The others laughed and after greetings were exchanged you all started to walk. As the guys walked ahead, you walked along with Mel and Linnea.
“So how are you liking Denver?” she asked cheerily.
“The weather is a nice change from SoCal, that’s for sure,” you let out a soft laugh. “I’ve really only been to like the rink and the grocery store, so I haven’t been able to explore much more than this. I was happy when Nate invited me to hike with you guys so I could see a bit more,” you smiled.
“We should go get lunch then one day, and go shopping! If you would like to. I know hanging around the rink with the guys gets a little old,” she said sincerely, and you couldn’t help but feel excited at the possibility of making a new friend.
“That sounds like fun! I’m not used to being around this much testosterone.”
“Yeah they are terrible sometimes.” You both started to laugh, catching the attention of the guys in front of you. You locked eyes with Nate, and blushed slightly under the grin he was sending you. Tyson walked over to the two of you and slung his arm around your shoulders.
“Coach, I have a question…” you looked at him apprehensively and he gave you a sly grin. “Who is your favorite so far?” Nate you automatically thought, but were nervous to say out loud.
“Well it’s definitely not you,” you replied, shrugging off his arm to the chirps of everyone else.
“I bet it’s Nate,” Andre spoke up with a grin, Nate shooting him a look. You tried to think of something quick to say, seeing as Nate was looking as uncomfortable as you were starting to feel.
“No, he has extra laps to skate tomorrow,” you tried to joke, hoping to ease Nate. It worked, he grinned at you and chuckled.
“You don’t even know if you can enforce that,” he teased back.
“I will figure it out!” you yelled back dramatically. The rest of the walk went like that, with the guys chirping one another, and dragging you and Mel into it. At some point after talking a bit to Cale, you ended up next to Nate as your little group came to a stop at a look out point. The trees were turning color with the season and everything looked pristine and beautiful. When Mel suggested taking a group picture. You automatically started to back up and were about to offer to take the picture when Nate gently placed his hand on your back.
“Your part of this group too. Don’t be trying to sneak off,” he smiled at you. You were about to reply that it was okay when Andre spoke up.
“Yeah Coach. Grace our picture with your Olympic winning smile.” He said, sending you a wink. You laughed and shook your head.
“Oh God. That one hurts my face,” you admitted. You were known for always smiling throughout your routines. Even if you fell, you kept your smile. By the end of a four in a half minute long program though, that smile usually felt forced and plastered, even if it didn’t look that way. Andre turned his camera around as a selfie and held it up since he was the tallest. You were toward the back with Nate, his hand still on your back and you stood on your toes to try to be taller, your short frame looking incredibly small next to the larger bodies around you. After the picture was taken and sent to everyone, you and Mel exchanged numbers as you all continued the hike back to your cars. It was just after 1pm and you all decided to get lunch. You enjoyed your time with everyone and were starting to feel like Denver could be home. After lunch, Nate drove you back to your apartment. You were slightly sad the day was coming to an end. He parked and insisted on walking you up to your apartment, even though you assured him it wasn’t a big deal. Opening your front door, he eyed your still packed boxes again.
“You know, I could help you put together a book shelf if you’d like,” Nate said, face flushing a bit. You thought it was adorable, someone as large as him flustered.
“That’s kind of you, but I have to go buy one first,” you smiled at him. He shrugged.
“I can go with you. You might need help carrying it,” he smirked and you let out a laugh.
“Wow, I think you are just really trying to get out of doing those laps tomorrow,” you shook your head.
“Are you really going to make me do those?” he asked, leaning against your door frame.
“I’m not sure yet, I haven’t decided,” you shrugged, making him chuckle. You looked up at him and couldn’t help but smile, the thought that someone might actually care about you as a person, and not because of your accolades filling you with immense joy. He was offering to help you build a bookcase after all. “I might just take you up on that offer though.” Nate smiled and pushed himself off your door frame and extended his arms to you. You gave him a hug and have never felt quiet as safe so quickly as his large frame enveloped you.
“I’ll see you tomorrow Coach,” he said as he pulled away from you and winked.
“Have a good night Nate,” you smiled. As he walked away you shut your door. Walking further into your apartment, you plopped down on the couch and got your phone out of your bag. You saw you had a few new followers on Instagram, some from the team and a few of their significant others. Mel had tagged you in a picture, and you saw it was the one you had all taken, along with one of just her, Gabe and Linnea. You went and posted the picture as well, captioning it “I’m not sure what I like about Denver better. This team, or the view?”
You busied yourself the rest of the day and checked your Insta around dinner again. There was a comment from Tyson. “This team is the view.” You couldn’t help but laugh and be thankful that you ended up in Denver.
Tuesday’s Treats is a weekly blog post dedicated to newly released books that I’m most excited for. (Books are in no particular order.)
All books featured this week will be released: MAY 16th
1. The Love Interest: Cale Dietrich (goodreads) (book depository)
Caden and Dylan have been raised as teenaged spies where agents are called Love Interests. On their first mission, they compete for the same girl who is the key to gaining information for their case. The twist? The boy she doesn't choose will die. But the reality of the job isn’t quite like they were trained, and feelings develop that may just kill them both.
YA Contemporary Fiction, Romance, LGBTQIA+; Feiwel & Friends/Macmillan, Hardcover (US)
2. The Names They Gave Us: Emily Lord (goodreads) (book depository)
Lucy was all set to spend the summer with her boyfriend at Bible camp, but when her mother’s cancer comes back, her summer plans aren’t the only things that change — her entire life, her faith, changes too. Her summer job shifts from Bible camp to a camp for troubled kids, but Lucy tries to not let it (and her boyfriend’s desire to “pause” their relationship) ruin her summer. But the more she settles into her new life, the more secrets emerge that continue to shift Lucy’s entire world.
Now, normally, I shy away from religious heavy books (they’re just not my cup of tea). However, I really enjoyed Lord’s When We Collided last year, so I can’t wait to give this one a shot!
YA Contemporary Fiction, Romance; Bloomsbury, Hardcover (US)
3. A Million Junes: Emily Henry (goodreads) (book depository)
The O’Donnell’s and the Angerts have been bitter rivals and enemies for decades, and June O’Donnell is totally fine with that. But when the Saul Angert comes back to town, June and Saul can’t stop running into each other. The more they see each other, the more June comes to realize that she doesn’t quite hate the boy that she’s been conditioned to loathe. But Saul’s return sparked a chain reaction that brings magic, ghosts, and other fantastical events to their small town; all of which starts to shed a light on their families’ age old feud.
YA Magical Realism, Romance; Razorbill/Penguin, Hardcover (US)
4. Seeker (Riders: 2): Veronica Rossi (goodreads) (book depository)
Despite the fact that Riders was on the near top of my TBR last year, I still haven’t gotten around to reading it yet. BUT, that doesn’t make me any less excited for the release of its sequel, Seeker. Any book that’s about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse is right up my ally, so I cannot wait to dive into this story.
YA Fantasy; Tor Teen, Hardcover (US)
5. The Crown's Fate (The Crown's Game: 2): Evelyn Skye (goodreads) (book depository)
After finishing The Crown’s Game last year, I immediately added The Crown’s Fate to my TBR (and my most anticipated books list). I absolutely loved the character dynamics, magic, and dangerous game that this series is about, and I cannot wait to grab this one and dive into this world again.
If you liked The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern or Caraval by Stephanie Gaber, this is definitely a series you should consider picking up.
YA Fantasy; Balzer + Bray/HarperCollins, Hardcover (US)
6. New Boy: Tracy Chevalier (goodreads) (book depository)
It’s no secret that I love retellings, but there I have a very large soft spot for Shakespeare retellings. So, as soon as I read about New Boy — a retelling of Othello — I immediately added it to my TBR. New Boy follows the story of eleven year-old Osei Kokote, a diplomat’s son, as he enters his fifth school in five years. Being the new kid is never fun, but Osei is lucky when Dee, the most popular girl in school, and he become friends. But Ian can’t stand to see Osei and Dee become friends, and is determined to destroy the budding friendship between the new black kid and the “golden girl”.
Contemporary Fiction, Retelling; Hogarth/Crown Publishing, Hardcover (US)
7. Flame in the Mist (Flame in the Mist: 1): Renee Ahdieh (goodreads) (book depository)
Okay, honestly, I don’t know what this book is exactly about, but I really do want to go into this book blind. I absolutely loved Ahdieh’s The Wrath & The Dawn — the romance was incredible and the writing was gorgeous — so as soon as she announced a new book, I added it to my TBR with no thought or hesitation. The little bit that I do know about Flame in the Mist is that it is inspired by Japanese mythology and loosely based on the Mulan tale. I’m ridiculously excited to read this one.
YA Fantasy; Putnam/Penguin, Hardcover (US)
Secret Love Part 18 || Cale Makar
Requested: [ ] yes [x] no
Authors Note: Just need to reiterate that this man lives in my head rent free 24/7. I finished part 22 and I’m thinking that I have roughly 3 more parts to write. We’re definitely on the back half of this series now and I’m actually kind of sad because I love these two (hopefully you love them just as much).
Warnings: angst, cursing, cockwarming, smut (this one is really filthy…fair warning), oral sex, maybe a bit of breeding kink.
Word Count: 3,583
~~~~~~
You hadn’t realized you’d been waiting for the other shoe to drop until it went clattering to the floor. It could be worse...you tried to remind yourself. But that didn’t stop the ache in your chest or the tears that kept filling your eyes every time you thought you’d pulled yourself together.
Sleeping in Cale’s arms Friday night was everything you needed and more. You’d gotten up Saturday morning and made breakfast together before you’d rushed off to work, a day filled with client meetings and house tours ahead of you. You’d parted with a kiss and an ‘I love you’, promises of talking later following you.
With such a busy day, it wasn’t until Sunday afternoon that you finally had a spare minute to call your parents like you had promised Laura you would.
“Hey mom.” You greeted, settling onto your couch, your legs tucked up underneath you. “Is dad around?”
It took your mom a minute to fetch your dad but once they were both on the line you took a deep breath.
“So I have some news for you.” You stated, your tone bright hoping to signal that this was all good news. “Cale and I are together.”
Silence stretched on for an uncomfortably long time before your dad’s voice spoke up.
“That’s great dear. I have to head out for an evening round of golf but I’m happy for you.” The sound of footsteps and the door came through the phone as your mom took it off of the speaker.
“How long?” Your mom inquired, her voice seeming hesitant.
“Officially almost two months...but we realized there was something here back in March. I never thought that it would ever be a possibility. But everything about it is so right. I love him mom and he loves me. We just fit together...I’ve never felt a connection with anyone else the way I do with him.”
“Oh hunny…” Your mom mumbled, causing your back to stiffen.
“You don’t sound happy for me.” You whispered, shocked.
“I am happy for you...you know we love Cale...just maybe you should slow down before things get too serious.”
“This is serious mom.” You insisted.
“I just...I don’t want you to get hurt. Cale’s a good kid but there’s a significant age difference between the two of you. Plus he’s only there for the summer. What happens when he leaves?” Hearing your mom refer to Cale as a kid made the hair on the back of your neck bristle.
“He’s not a kid mom. Neither of us are kids anymore. I know there’s an age gap but we’ve talked about anything and everything important related to that and it’s not an issue. We’re on the same page.” Before you could continue your mom cut you off.
“Honey...the boy is a young NHL star. He’s not ready to be thinking about settling down. You may think you’re on the same page but I don’t think you realize what you’d be giving up for him.”
“You’re wrong.” You mumbled, your throat starting to tighten up. “I don’t know what happens when he leaves but we’ll figure it out when the time comes. Why can’t you just be happy for me?”
“Because I know how much you’ve always cared about Cale and I just don’t want you to find out down the road that this was all a waste of time because the two of you want different things. I don’t want you to let your good judgment be clouded by lust. You’re a smart woman...don’t give up the life you’ve worked so hard to build for a summer fling.”
Sobs wracked your body as you ended the call without another word. How could your mother say those things? It was like she didn’t know Cale at all...didn’t know you at all. She was wrong...you knew she was wrong. You and Cale were perfect for each other. This wasn’t some fantasy that would never manifest…this was real. The way Cale looked at you was real. His ‘I love you’s’ were real. And distance or time...that wouldn’t change anything.
You sobbed on your couch for almost an hour before finally pulling yourself together. Your mother’s support or lack thereof was not going to define your relationship or your life. Determined not to let this consume you, you threw yourself into all of the cleaning that you had been putting off. There was laundry to be done, dishes to be washed, floors to be swept, mopped, vacuumed.
And then when you finished all of those tasks, it was time to make yourself something to eat, before cleaning up those dishes as well. Of course, all of these tasks took twice as long when tears kept constantly springing up forcing you to put yourself together all over again.
After dinner you pulled the final load of laundry out to fold. As your fingers wrapped around the fabric of Cale’s stolen t-shirt you sunk to the floor of your laundry room. How could she think that you wouldn’t receive in return ten times the worth of anything you had to give up to be with Cale? Gary had joked the other night that you were out of Cale’s league but it was absolutely 100% the other way around.
Carrying the t-shirt back to your bedroom, you stripped out of your clothes, letting the soft fabric of the shirt wrap around you instead. Deciding it was late enough to go to bed, you locked up the house before crawling under the sheets, a scent that was so distinctly Cale wafting from the spare pillow as you pulled it against your chest.
Tossing and turning, unable to sleep, you watched as the clock eventually reached 1:30am. Reaching blindly for your phone which you hadn’t bothered to look at all day, you first acknowledged that there wasn’t a single message from your mother after the abrupt end to your call. There were however multiple messages from Cale.
Hey sweetheart, just checking in to see how your day is going. (Received 2:02pm)
Tell dad it’s unfair for him to kick my ass on the golf course every single time. (Received 5:27pm)
Haven’t heard from you today. You’re probably just enjoying your day off, you deserve it. (Received 8:16pm)
Something is wrong, I can feel it. I’m here if you want to talk and you know all you have to do is ask and I’ll come right over. I love you. If you want to handle it by yourself that’s okay too, just know you don’t have to. (Received 10:42pm)
It wasn’t unlike Cale to send multiple messages through the day, just to let you know he was thinking about you. Normally they just made you smile, but this time they caused another fresh set of tears to form in your eyes, wetting your pillow.
Without even fully realizing it, you were pressing on his contact information and then the phone was ringing. The second ring had barely started when you heard Cale’s voice come through the line. He must have heard you crying because suddenly you heard the rustle of fabric.
“Give me fifteen. I’ll be there.” His sleepy voice insisted and then the call dropped.
True to his word, almost fifteen minutes later on the nose you heard a key clicking in the lock of the front door. The sound of the door opening, closing, and being locked again followed before footsteps padded across the hardwood floors. When the bed finally dipped behind you, Cale’s warm body pressing firmly against your back, you let out a shaky breath in relief.
“I can’t sleep.” You whispered as Cale’s fingers flexed gently around your hip.
“Wanna talk about what’s wrong?” Cale prodded lightly, his warm breath fanning against the back of your neck as he spoke. And though you knew you should talk about it, you didn’t really know what there was to say. It sucked beyond belief that your mother wasn’t supportive but that only changed your relationship with her, not your relationship with Cale.
This was good, you knew this was good. Cale coming over in the middle of the night because you needed him was just further proof.
“No...I just...need you.” You rambled.
“I’m right here sweet girl.” Cale affirmed. Though you could feel the heat of his body along your back, his hand draping over your middle, it wasn’t enough and you couldn’t explain it.
“Closer.” You whispered. Within just a moment, Cale had turned you around, tugged you even closer, and tangled your legs together. Being pressed chest to chest was a little bit better, but it still wasn’t close enough to patch the holes of worry, doubt, and anger your mother had created. It would have to be good enough though, and you buried yourself into his body as much as you possibly could.
“Y/N…” Cale breathed a few minutes later, his thumb lifting your chin so that he could kiss you. “You’re still shaking sweetheart. Please...what can I do?” He begged softly. “How can I quiet whatever voices in your head are making you feel this way?”
“I don’t know.” You mumbled. “This...this will just have to be enough. This is already so much.” Still, your heart was pounding and echoes of your mother’s voice still lingered in your head.
“Do you still want me closer?” Cale questioned, his hands sliding up along your side under the t-shirt. A weak nod was all it took for Cale to slide you out of your clothes, his own quickly following, forming a pile on the floor as he pulled you back against him.
The skin to skin contact was better, you felt some of the weight come off of your chest. And though it might not be the most restful sleep, for the first time tonight you felt like you might actually be able to drift off.
“How could she call this lust...a summer fling…” Your words were practically unintelligible as you mumbled into Cale’s bare chest, but apparently they were enough for him to piece things together because you heard him curse softly. His fingers slid up to cup the back of your head, tilting your face up to his. At the same time, his other hand brushed away the tears from your cheeks, his eyes full of despair and frustration as he looked at you.
He seemed to acknowledge that this wasn’t something he could fix, that he needed to fix, but you could see how much he hated it all the same. Despite the late hour, the wheels in his head were spinning, searching for something that he could do to take away the pain you were feeling.
“Can we try something?” He asked quietly. Shrugging, you nodded, no idea what he had in mind. He shifted you back from his body just an inch as his hand dropped from your cheek to slip between your legs. “Just relax my sweet girl...I know you trust me. This isn’t sex...not really.” He explained, urging your body to give in just a little. Despite not being in the mood, your body grew pliant under his fingers.
“Cale…” You whimpered, confusion making your anxiety increase slightly.
“Shh love…” He soothed. “You’ve heard of cockwarming haven’t you? I’m just gonna rest inside you, give you the closeness you need.”
“Oh.” You gasped, pulling your bottom lip between your teeth.
“You okay with that?” He inquired, his fingers moving from your core to shift your body in line with his. “Just want to give you what you need.”
“Please.” You agreed, your fingers flexing against his bicep. Cale was still soft as he slid inside you, the rest of his body shifting to wrap around you now that you were joined together. This was absolutely as close as you could get to him and it was everything you didn’t know you needed.
“Good? Bad? In between?” Cale asked, his lips pressing against your forehead lightly.
“Good...so good.” You breathed, your body relaxing against him. “Thank you.”
Little by little, every worry and negative emotion slipped from your mind until you finally fell asleep tucked against Cale’s chest with him resting deep inside of you.
____
As the fog of sleep started to disappear, you groaned feeling worse than you usually did when you were hungover. Warm fingers brushing against your temple caused you to slowly blink your eyes open. The morning light revealed Cale’s bright blue eyes staring down at you and you let out a choked gasp as you felt him twitch inside of you.
Holy shit…
Cale was inside of you.
Every memory of last night flooded over you quickly at first before slowing down as you remembered how patient Cale had been, willing to try anything to help you sleep. Now, hours later, your bodies were locked in the same position. The only difference was where Cale had been soft inside of you last night, now he was hard, stretching and pressing against your vaginal walls.
“Sleep okay?” Cale’s deep gravely morning voice questioned.
“I slept...that alone is impressive.” You replied honestly. “Can’t believe you’re still inside me.” You admitted, voice awestruck.
“Didn’t want to wake you by pulling out.” Cale explained. “But I need to now...so I can take care of this.”
“How about you stay just a little longer…” You hinted. “Take care of your problem together. After all...your dick seems quite happy where he’s at.” A low grunt slipped from Cale’s throat in response to your words.
“My girl wants fucked huh?” Cale stated. “I think we can make the time for that this morning.”
The first few drags of his cock were rough, your body’s lubrication drying up overnight and the new lubrication from waking up to him inside of you this morning not having the chance to replace it until about the fourth stroke.
Once your body adjusted though, you realized that having him inside of you all night had made you incredibly sensitive. Each piston of his hips drew a moan from your throat and your nails dug into his shoulders, clinging to him and the pleasure he provided. Spending hours joined together had apparently made Cale sensitive as well because suddenly you felt the sticky heat of his cum spurting inside of you as he came, a gasp of your name spilling from his lips. He went soft quickly, groaning as he came down from his climax.
“That was embarrassingly fast.” Cale cursed, his lips pressing against your shoulder.
“It’s fine Cale...I understand.” You assured him, fingers playing with his hair. This was the first time he’d cum before you and while your body was still worked up, you were okay with it after last night.
“It’s not fine.” Cale stated adamantly. “I can’t leave my girl hanging.”
“Cale...I swear it’s okay.” You pressed, feeling him slip out of you, his cum leaking out of your used pussy. Before you could slip out of bed to clean up, Cale’s hands were grabbing your waist, rolling you onto your back as his body sunk beneath the sheets. Feeling his lips against your thigh, you whimpered softly, hands reaching down to expose his head from the blankets.
“Cale...your cum…” The flick of his tongue through your folds, collecting both your juices and his own semen stopped you in your tracks, your head falling back against the pillows.
“We taste good together.” He mused, a smirk on his face as he spoke before diving back into your core like a man starved.
“You cannot just say that.” You whined loudly, your hips jerking as he sucked your clit between his lips. “Fuck Cale…”
Feeling more of his semen start to drip out of you made you whimper and Cale quickly read the noise for what it was, dipping lower between your thighs where he lapped it out of you slowly. What he was doing was so dirty that even with his barely-there touches you were a shaking mess in the sheets.
“You gonna cum for me sweet girl?” Cale mumbled pulling back for air. “Gonna cum for me...give me the rest of my seed so I can fuck a fresh load into you?” One swipe of Cale’s tongue through your folds had you screaming as you fell apart, wave after wave of pleasure crashing over your body. You honestly weren’t sure whether that was one long orgasm or multiple short ones but by the time you came down, the gentle flicks of Cale’s tongue as he worked to clean you up were too much and you shoved his head away.
“I don’t know what you like more. Me cumming inside you or me eating my cum out of you.” Cale teased, crawling up the bed over you. Kissing him was dirty as hell but you couldn’t resist, eager to find out what your mixed fluids taste like. It really wasn’t that bad and you ran your fingers down his back, resting them just above his ass.
“As hot as that was...I’m still quite partial to you filling me up.” You breathed. “I’ll take as many loads as you can give me.”
“Fuck.” Cale mumbled, growing hard against your stomach once more.
“You got another one for me?” You murmured, reaching between your bodies to stroke his length gently. “Because you ate all of it out of me and now I feel empty. I need more.”
“Yeah sweetheart...I’ll give you more.” Cale grunted, pressing back inside of you. His thrusts were quick, the need between the two of you too strong for slow sex. Neither one of you was going to last all that long this round, your vaginal walls already starting to flutter around his length.
“God baby...your sweet pussy really wants my seed doesn’t it? Fluttering around me ready to milk every single drop possible from me.”
“Need it.” You whine, your body aching to feel that sticky heat again.
“Yeah sweetheart...I know you do.” Cale groaned. “Your body is so needy for it. One of these days I’m just going to keep you in bed, fucking you full over and over again, not letting a single drop slip out of you. You’d like that wouldn’t you? To be so full of me. Your hips tipped up to keep it all inside.”
Cale’s words had you feeling like you were about to explode and your vaginal walls fluttered around him again as his hips stuttered.
“You ready for it sweet girl? Ready to milk me dry?” Your nails dug crescent marks into his lower back as you clung to him, your chest heaving beneath him as your orgasm hovered just below the surface waiting for him to give you everything you needed.
“Yeah you’re ready.” Cale hissed. “My girl is so ready. Here it comes.” Cale’s orgasm was long and hard and rope after rope of semen spilled inside of you. The feeling of it tipped you off of the cliff and you clamped down around him ensuring that he did indeed give you every drop. Where your first orgasm had been like a tsunami, this one was magma bubbling up and rolling slowly down the hill before cooling.
You hadn’t even noticed Cale pull out, but when your eyes fluttered open he was standing at the edge of the bed just watching you.
“You don’t even know how sexy you look all blissed out.” He grinned. “And I know you like keeping my cum inside but you should probably go use the bathroom.” He declared reaching out a hand to help you up, his semen dripping down your thighs as you walked the three feet to your bathroom.
Having cleaned up, you found Cale sitting in his pajamas on the side of the bed. Stepping into his open arms you smiled down at him feeling his arms wrap around your waist.
“Thank you.” You murmured, pecking his lips. “For coming over last night. For the cockwarming. For this morning.”
“Are we good?” Cale asked, letting out a deep exhale of breath.
“We were never not good.” You assured him. “My mother’s reservations don’t change anything. She obviously doesn’t know either of us as well as she thinks she does and I’m not going to let her unfounded concerns get in the way of something that I know is good and right.” Ruffling up his hair a little bit, you shook your head. “I love you Cale. I’ve waited a long time to find something this good. So I’m all in.”
“You have to get to work don’t you?” Cale breathed. Glancing at the clock beside the bed you nodded.
“Yeah I do. But not until you know that everything is okay. That I want more nights sleeping next to you. Nights sleeping with you inside me. Mornings where we bring each other pleasure over and over again. I want it all with you and I’m sure my mom will come around eventually. She’s gonna have to because I’m not letting you go.”
“Not letting you go either.” Cale agreed. “Why don’t you go get ready for work and I’ll make breakfast.”
“Perfect.” You grinned placing a lingering kiss to his lips.
The other shoe may have dropped, but the floor was solid so there wasn’t even a scratch left behind.

She’s Showering
The sound of the shower pouring the water down could be hear from outside the bathroom.
Frederica went home late due to some issues back in the museum that she needed to resolve first. Thankfully, all is done for today. He stretched his body first after cleaning himself first, sitting by the bed while scrolling through the messages he received the past hour on his kakaotalk.
Suddenly, a name came up on the screen. Soyeon is caling him.
Alverstoke turned his head towarda the bathroom door. Making sure he got enough time to talk to Soyeon behind his wife or it could be a total mess. No. Not after he heard the sweet words she told him last night. That she would forgive him no matter what. His thumb quickly tap on the green button and put the phone on his right ear.
“What is it? My wife is showering. You better be quick,” he told Soyeon at their first sentence. “I just miss you. Can’t I?” she asked.
Alverstoke reminds himself about what he had in his mind last night. To end their relationship. Their forbidden one. He didn’t want to have a mistress nor to continue this unfaithful act towards his wife.
“I want to end our relationship. This is not okay. I don’t want to cheat from my wife and what we did last time was simply due to the alcohol,” Alverstoke stated his decision. Soyeon sighed. “I don’t want to end this. I love you, Alverstoke. I love you, sunbaenim,” she replied.
Alverstoke bit his lower lips. “No. I cannot continue this stupid things that happened between us. Frederica needs me more. I love her so much.” And now… it’s time for Soyeon to take put her card that could locked him. To secure him as her’s.
“You do remember you shot it inside, right? Calling Frederica’s name but you’re actually inside my body? You didn’t use any condom.” Alverstoke immediately hold his breathe. His memory took out what he could recall the best from that unwanted steamy session.
She. Is. Right.
“What if I got pregnant? I’ll need to tell the world I’m pregnant and the father is you. Right?”
“I wonder how will your wife reacts to the news of her husband’s infidelity as well as having another child that doesn’t came from her tummy?”
She tried her best to keep him panicking from the other side of the world, the phone line.
“You’re not pregnant so stop hallucinating. If you’re going to announce our infidelity, it will also be your career that will be dragged to the downfall. It’s not me. I think you should use your brain too.”
Alverstoke quickly ended the call and threw the phone to the sofa. He sighed and messed his hairs, letting out his frustration towards the situation.
He turned his head towards the door that was still closed.
“Fre? Are you finished? It’s been thirty minutes!” He felt weird as Frederica never showered more than ten minutes but now she spent more than thirty minutes inside the bathroom with the water still heard, pouring down.
Alverstoke knocked the door before he turned the knob to the right.
He saw her sitting in the floor, letting the shower poured the warm—nearly hot water at her figure. Frederica’s head looking up while giving him that painful-like expression.
“My head hurts. It’s dizzy—“
The actor quickly ran to the shower and turn it off. He pulled a big towel and helped her stand, her naked body and helping her with wearing the warm night clothing.
A sweater and a long warm legging.
“It must’ve been about the fluctuation of hormones that the doctor told you last time on what to prepare on the last week fo the first trimester.
Didn’t she told you to be careful with headaches?” he asked, calmly. Not wanting to make his wife more panicked. He’s so sure regarding Frederica being panic to right now due to the sudden, intense pain she felt in her head.
His hands guide her to walk put from the bathroom and lied herself on the bed. Alverstoke kissed her forehead and followed by her side. Embracing her and keeping her warm too, of course after she pulled the blanket to cover their bodies.
“Still painful?”
“Y—yes…”
“Close your eyes, darling. Try to control your breathe. Do you want a cup of tea or honey lemon?” he asked cautiously. Not wanting to irritate or annoyed her during this time.
Frederica didn’t reply. She squeeze his arm in pain before letting a huge sigh.
“No— I really think I need some rest…”
“You deserve a proper rest. Sleep, sweetheart.”
The lass nodded. She buried her face on his chest before minutes later, perhaps the pain went away and she fell asleep already. Alverstoke kissed her crown as he patted her back and hug her tighter than before.
“I’m sorry for hurting you behind…” he whispered. “I’m paying for my sins.”
End of She’s Showering.

7-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson to retire after 2020
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Jimmie Johnson sat down next to Jeff Gordon at a 2001 driver meeting and asked the champion if he had time to offer any career advice.
Gordon was so impressed with the fellow California native that he encouraged Rick Hendrick to start a team built specifically for the 25-year-old Johnson.
It turned into one of the greatest hires in NASCAR history and nudged Gordon aside as the most dominant driver on the track. Now Johnson will follow Gordon and many other NASCAR superstars into retirement as the seven-time champion announced Wednesday he will retire from full-time competition after next season.
The 44-year-old Johnson joins an exodus of popular drivers that began when Gordon retired after the 2015 season. Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth, Danica Patrick and Jamie McMurray are among those who followed Gordon out the door.
Johnson, the winningest driver of his era, said in a video posted to his social media and titled “(hash)Chasing8 one final time” that next season will be his final attempt to win a record eighth Cup title. It will be his 19th season in the No. 48 Chevrolet.
“I am so thankful for 18 incredible years of racing in NASCAR,” Johnson said in the black-and-white video comprised of highlights from his career. “This sport has been good to me and allowed me to do something I truly love. I showed up chasing a dream and achieved more than I thought possible. I am looking forward to next season and celebrating what will be my last year as a full-time Cup driver. I know what this team is capable of and I hope 2020 is one of the best yet.”
Johnson scheduled a Thursday news conference at Hendrick Motorsports to discuss his decision. He joins Gordon and Earnhardt Jr. as Hendrick drivers who have called it a career since 2015.
Reaction was immediate from drivers, as well as retired cyclist Lance Armstrong and seven-time Supercross champion Jeremy McGrath.
“Proud of you, bro,” Armstrong wrote. “And even prouder to call you a friend. Let’s go get #8.”
Gordon wrote that Johnson is “a class act & true champion on & off track” while current Hendrick teammate Chase Elliott was among the many young drivers to refer to Johnson as the greatest of all time with an emoji of a goat.
Johnson had two years remaining on his contract when new sponsor Ally signed on before this season to replace Lowe’s, which had sponsored Johnson from his 2001 debut through 2018. Ally last month announced a three-year extension to sponsor the No. 48, but Johnson’s future was not tied to the renewal through 2023.
“Jimmie Johnson is a legend in racing, the epitome of class and the ultimate representative of our brand,” said Andrea Brimmer, Chief Marketing and PR Officer at Ally. “We are proud that Jimmie will finish his remarkable NASCAR driving career with Ally as his primary sponsor.”
Johnson has 83 career victories, tied with Cale Yarborough for sixth all-time. His seven titles are tied with Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt for most in the Cup Series, the last one coming in 2016.
Johnson has been in a two-year slump and last won a race in 2017. He had two different crew chief changes this season and missed the playoffs for the first time since the format began in 2004. He finished 18th in the final standings and has just five top-five finishes the last two years.
Johnson has driven for Rick Hendrick his entire Cup career and set a NASCAR record in winning five consecutive titles from 2006 through 2010, an accomplishment that earned him Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year after his fifth crown.
All 83 of Johnson’s wins have come in the No. 48 and include two Daytona 500s, four victories at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, a record 11 wins at Dover International Speedway, nine at Martinsville Speedway and eight at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Ramblings: Jackets Strike Lightning Again, Isles and Blues Also Up Two Games (Apr 13)
First-round playoff hockey is just nuts. You could argue that the best hockey is being played right now as opposed to closer to when the Stanley Cup is handed out. As a friend of mine told me, there are so many storylines and so much going on right now. Teams come out so fired up for the first round that by around the conference final you start to see those teams wear down, and by then it’s not the same.
Before I cover each game played on Friday, imagine all of Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, and Winnipeg being knocked out in the first round. Well, all of those teams are down 2-0 in their series. The first round can be bananas.
Columbus/Tampa Bay
Should we be that surprised about the Blue Jackets? After all, this is a team that not only decided to retain its pending UFAs in Sergei Bobrovsky and Artemi Panarin, but also double down on a potential Cup run by adding Matt Duchene. Even if it defies safe logic, you have to admire Jarmo Kekalainen for his testicular fortitude. This is a team that has a lot to lose this offseason and could be a shell of its former self should all three of these players walk away for nothing.
Maybe they had to go for it this season, if not to erase stats like these:
First time #CBJ have won a playoff game by more than one goal.
— Aaron Portzline (@Aportzline) April 13, 2019
The Duchene acquisition paid off in spades, at least for Game 2. Duchene scored a second-period power-play goal and added three assists in the 5-1 Columbus victory. Believe it or not, this was Duchene’s first playoff goal of his career, although the 28-year-old had played in only nine playoff games prior to Friday. No, that’s not a lot of playoff hockey. He might become one hell of a sleeper pick if the Jackets can pull off the upset. Do you think maybe he’ll want to stay in Columbus, especially if they go on a little run?
The Jackets will also need to take care of Zach Werenski in the offseason (he is an RFA). He also did his part on Friday, recording a Gordie Howe hat trick (goal, assist, fight with Brayden Point).
So now that CBJ has two wins in its pocket heading back to Nationwide Arena and its cannon, is it time for the 10 percent that predicted a CBJ series win to proclaim victory and the 90 percent of that picked Tampa to bust their brackets? Well, not so fast. A Columbus win is a very real possibility at this point. However, a team winning a series after dropping the first two games has happened many times. In fact, it’s hardly unprecedented for a team to win the Stanley Cup after losing its first two playoff games – even at home.
Case in point:
2017-18 Washington Capitals (against those very same Blue Jackets)
2005-06 Carolina Hurricanes
2001-02 Detroit Red Wings (I remember this series well)
1992-93 Montreal Canadiens
There may be more, but those are the ones that I can remember.
So if this adversity doesn’t kill the Lightning, then it’ll make them stronger. Obviously they have their work cut out for them in Game 3. They haven’t played an important game in months and are playing a team that has been playing meaningful games for quite a while. So this will be test in the true sense of the word.
Jon Cooper: “this is a five-alarm fire. We are facing adversity. Sometimes that’s good to face adversity.” Has faith in his group.
— Pierre LeBrun (@PierreVLeBrun) April 13, 2019
It looks like they’ll be without Nikita Kucherov for Game 3, as he’ll have a hearing with the NHL about this hit below. Kucherov appears to be facing supplemental discipline after frustration got the best of him here. People on Twitter are comparing it to the Nazem Kadri hit on Tommy Wingels that Kadri was suspended for three games for. I don’t think Kucherov’s hit isn’t as vicious, so I’ll say one, maybe two games. He’s a star player, and the Bolts are in a hole. You don’t think that’s factored in here, even if the hit is deemed to be as dirty as Kadri’s?
Nikita Kucherov trips up Markus Nutivaara and then hammers his head into the boards near the end of tonight's game. Suspension worthy?#GoBolts #CBJ pic.twitter.com/9IMIiKddIf
— Hockey Daily #StickTogether (@HockeyDaily365) April 13, 2019
I’m wondering if the Lightning’s kryptonite is teams that can use their physical style to push the Lightning’s small, speedy forwards to the perimeter. Washington did this last season, and so far Columbus appears to be adopting a similar game plan under John Tortorella. So far, it’s working wonders.
Pittsburgh/NY Islanders
This is a very intense series, particularly from the Islanders’ point of view. As I was telling my friend, man the Islanders sure look fired up in that loud old barn. They’re not just happy to be in the playoffs. That team and fan base has been through a lot. In fact, the collective group of players and fans seems pissed off to me. Pissed off about years of underdog status due to poor management. Pissed off about the arena situation. Pissed off about losing John Tavares. After all that, they’re letting all their frustration out on the Penguins.
Putting the cart way before the horse here, but what if the Isles faced Barry Trotz’s former team in the next round, then Tavares’ current team after that? I know who I’ll be pulling for in the small chance that this scenario plays out.
After Erik Gudbranson opened the scoring for the Penguins (bet for the sake of your playoff pool you were hoping it was someone else), Anthony Beauvillier equaled the score just three minutes after. This is what I mean about it being an intense series.

— Hockey Daily #StickTogether (@HockeyDaily365) April 13, 2019
Jordan Eberle and Josh Bailey scored in the third period to put the Islanders in the lead for good. Both Eberle and Mathew Barzal finished the game with two points and a plus-2. Eberle has two goals and four points in two playoff games this season. Guess how many playoff goals he had prior to this season. That’s right, the same number as Duchene, except in 13 games.
Pittsburgh is in the same predicament as Tampa Bay, but at least they’re coming home. We’ll soon find out how much playoff experience matters and if they want to win this series as badly as the Islanders do.
St. Louis/Winnipeg
I’ll admit that I was in the minority that picked Winnipeg to win this series (my playoff picks really aren’t looking good so far, but I’m guessing I’m not the only one). In spite of the two teams’ recent play, I didn’t think the Jets were being given enough credit for being a large physical team that looks built for the playoffs. Yet here they are down 0-2 and with an uphill climb heading to St. Louis.
Although Jordan Binnington was by no means terrible in this game, he was a bit more human, allowing three goals on 29 shots. On a side note, don’t get me started about him winning the Calder Trophy. Although he and Craig Berube have singlehandedly turned the Blues’ season around, I’m citing the Connor McDavid precedent. You miss a half season, you miss out. Sorry. At least I won’t call him the Hamburgler 2.0 (Andrew Hammond, in case you forgot), but I think his numbers fall back to earth a little once teams get a better read on him (or at least once he plays that full season). That doesn’t mean he won’t be a worthwhile starting goalie to own in fantasy, though.
Oskar Sundqvist led the way for the Blues with two goals, the first two playoff goals of his career.
Vegas/San Jose
The Sharks were gifted eight power plays in this game, scoring on one of them. The problem was that Vegas scored on two of those power plays. Yes, San Jose’s power plays. That turned out to be the difference in Vegas’ 5-3 win, which evens the series heading back to Sin City.
The Vegases stormed out to a 3-0 lead, which chased Martin Jones from the net after just under seven minutes and seven shots faced. The Sharks returned the favor late in the first period with three goals of their own and appeared to have the momentum to start the second period. However, Mark Stone scored a power-play goal early in the second period on a phantom goalie interference penalty handed to the Sharks.

— Brodie Brazil (@BrodieNBCS) April 13, 2019
It wouldn’t be the playoffs without someone being unhappy with the officiating. Today it’s the Sharks. Not saying they don’t have a legitimate beef, but it’s not the first time a bad call was made and it certainly won’t be the last.
Marc-Edouard Vlasic left Friday’s game early in the second period. As a result, both Erik Karlsson (29:08) and Brent Burns (28:36) appeared to be double-shifted. Karlsson logged 9:25 in power-play time, which was more than third-pairing defenseman Joakim Ryan logged in the entire game (7:34).

Cale Makar is the 2018-19 Hobey Baker winner. After playing in Saturday’s championship game, it’s possible that he could debut with the Avalanche as early as Game 3 on Sunday night. Of course, we’ll be keeping an eye on the top prospect blueliner should he enter the Avs’ lineup. With 49 points in 40 games with UMass, the 2017 fourth overall pick is definitely a blueliner that should be heavily sought after in keeper leagues. You can check out Makar’s Dobber Prospects profile here.

A follow-up on the roto league that I wrote about in last Saturdays Ramblings. Apparently a stat correction pushed the first-place team down one point, forcing a three-way tie for the league championship. So now three teams are showing as tied for first, as I was originally tied with another team for second.
The stat correction may not actually be correct, as it is believed to have to do with another team’s goals-against average, although I don’t know for sure if it would be enough for him to regain first place. Apparently no tiebreaker was set in this league (and maybe other roto leagues in Yahoo), so two or more teams can tie for first. If the stat correction did make a difference, then this league was basically decided by one goal. Either way, it was a hell of a ride that kept me interested until the very last day.
This was a truly bizarre ending to a team that I had autopicked (you can read more about it here). It’s in a fantasy writers “expert” league that I’ve now won twice: once in the last lockout-shortened season (2012-13) and now this three-way victory. As long as they don’t ask how and just ask how many, I’m good.
*
Finally, I'd like to wish my son Alex a happy 10th birthday! I can't believe that I've been a father for a decade now. Time sure flies. Hopefully he scores a goal or two at hockey later today. Scoring goals isn't only a gift for him, but also for me.

/r/hockey NHL Power Rankings Week 26 Knightfall Edition
/r/Hockey NHL Power Rankings Week Mar 25, 2019 - Mar 31, 2019Thank YouThank you to all of the volunteers doing the power rankings. Each ranker has their own system and have their own reasonings and analyis. It truly is a lot of work.RankersSpoilerOrganizersSpoilerVisualizationThe visualization contains historical data, so you can see how your team has done over time. Hopefully, we can run this for many years in hopes that we can see the rise and fall of teams by /r/hockey opinion.It automatically updates so feel free to bookmark. You can find it hereProcessHow does this work? Throughout the course of the week rankers are able to access an app that will allow them to rank teams. At the end of the period we calculate the average ranking for every team and collate all of the analysis provided by rankers.The app then generates a post that is first proofread and then posted to /r/hockey!Rankings (26/31 Rankers Reporting)Ranking (avg)TeamDeltaOverall RecordRecord This WeekComments1 (1.08)Tampa Bay Lightning-59-15-41-1-0Tampa doesn’t play well after a long break. That has been established quite well this season. There isn’t much more I can say about the Bolts that hasn’t been said I’m going to focus on some baby Bolts. Carter Verhaeghe leads the AHL in points with 75 (30 G 45A), Alex Barre-Boulet is second in rookie scoring with 60 ponts (32 G 28 A), Cal Foote also a rookie has 29 points ( 9 G 20A +16) as a defenseman, Alexander Volkov continues to show strong two way play in his second season (20 G 20A). Taylor Raddsyh is 8th in rookie scoring (17G 26A), Boris Katchouck is still trying to find his footing, Mitchell Stephens who almost made the team out of camp but had an unfortunate injury has played well since his return. Suffice it say there are a lot of good young players developing in Syracuse.2 (3.56)Boston Bruins147-23-91-3-0Oof. It seems neither Toronto nor Boston want home ice advantage in the first round. Both teams are losing to lottery contenders. At least 🍝 got a hattrick against the Rangers and Backes got his 7th goal of the season; passing James Neal.3 (3.88)Calgary Flames-149-23-72-2-0And that is how the West was clinched.4 (4.28)Washington Capitals247-24-83-0-0Starting this week I'm ranking teams based on who I think will win the cup, biases included - Caps are second. We absolutely took it to the Bolts last night, with each member of our old top line scoring twice, dominating them as much as you can dominate that team. I'm fully torqued entering the 'loffs, literally counting down the days like it's christmas. Both Carolina and cum bus scare me, but the post-TDL Caps can beat anybody. Russian machine never breaks babes.5 (7.32)New York Islanders246-26-72-1-0Clinched? Fucking Right! Isles had the chance to clinch on Tuesday night versus CBJ but played awful and lost badly. Thursday they constantly played down 2, chasing the Jets. They were down for about 58 minutes throughout the game, but scored 2 goals with less than 90 seconds to go to tie, and steal the win in Manitoba. They kept momentum from there to dominate Buffalo and clinch a playoff spot before April for the first time in almost 30 years. Lehner looks like a wall in net and is maybe the most loved Islander right now. Eberle has a hot hand scoring lots of goals after a long dry spell, Barzal is finally seeing results for his hard work, and other guys like Bailey are chipping in after a long cold streak. This team looks to be heating up again at the perfect time, looking like they will finish as the #2 in the Metro with home ice advantage for the first time in a long long time. If things play out well they could be playing Washington for the division title on the last day of their season.6 (8.12)San Jose Sharks-144-26-91-3-07 (8.44)Nashville Predators444-29-62-1-0Ignoring the result of the CBJ game (Saros is apparently no Michael Jordan when it comes to flu games), it's been a pretty okay week to be a Preds fan. Fabbro signed on so fears of another Vesey situation were finally put to ease. He even made his debut, not an earth shattering one mind you but it was solid nonetheless. That does burn the first year of his ELC which will expose him in the Seattle expansion, but current speculation is that was a term to him actually signing. In other player news, Arvidsson has tied the Preds single season goal record with only 55 GP. Watson completed his AHL conditioning stint, and it will be interesting to see how he gets slotted into the roster. Turris is... yeah. The Central is up for grabs, with any combination of NSH, STL, or WPG in the top 3 a distinct possibility. The Preds final three games are @ BUF, v VAN, v CHI, games that they should be able to win and go into the playoffs at least lukewarm and potentially with home ice advantage. Key word there being 'should'.8 (8.72)Winnipeg Jets-445-29-40-3-09 (9.52)Toronto Maple Leafs-145-26-71-1-1A tale of two teams in the month of March...Team A was missing two of their Top 4D for basically the entire month of March. Collected 16 of 30 points. Posted a CF% of 44.9%, a xGF% of 44.3%, and a PDO of 103.51...Team B was also missing two of their Top 4D for the entire month of March. Collected 15 of 28 points. Posted a CF% of 54.4%, a xGF% of 55%, and a PDO of 98.7...Guess which of these teams is expected to become a Conference Finalist and which is expected to be bounced quickly in Round 1? TOR is Team B but there's been a lot of "they don't look good" punditry over the Leafs' recent play despite the reality that they've been downright dominant (5th in CF%, 5th in xGF%). Unfortunately, their goaltending fell apart to the tune of a .892 Team SV% in March. It's the kind of thing that can sink ANY team in the NHL, no matter how well the rest of the group is playing. The good news is Freddy and the Buds have one final week to tighten up. Otherwise it will truly be Bruins in 5.10 (10.08)Carolina Hurricanes-43-29-71-3-0The Canes are still finding a way to stay in the thick of it with every game being a must win game. Losses have come from one bad period of hockey against some of the top teams in the league, namely Tampa and Washington. The month of December is haunting the team, 2 points from one of those terrible games would have gone far this month. Previous week went 3 - 2, beating the Wild cleanly, Montreal in OT, and Flyers was alot closer of a game than the scoresheet would show. Washington beat the team for the two losses of the week, both in the third period. The hope here in Canes Country is that those 4 points don't haunt us too. Mrazek is emerging more and more as our #1, but expect the shuffle to keep happening till playoffs come (if and when) Svechnikov has grown into the scoring talent that was promised with the second overall pick (and top forward in the draft) Hamilton continues to show why he is the best defenceman from his draft year with two goals, and continues his streak of games wi11 (10.4)Columbus Blue Jackets345-30-44-0-0What a time to get hot. This Jackets team that we are watching right now is what we expected to see after the TDL. Every line has been playing great as we seem to have finally stumbled on the right combinations. Bob is literally a brick wall and our offence has been just as good. Over the last 5 games the Jackets have outscored their opponents 24-4. This final week is going to be exciting, and we could land anywhere from 3rd in the metro to 9th in the East.12 (10.52)Pittsburgh Penguins-43-25-112-1-0I don't have much to say this week except who'd have thought in December we might finish with more points than the Leafs? We're one game from extending the longest active playoff streak in the NHL. It's been a good season all things considered.13 (11.44)St. Louis Blues-42-28-82-1-0The Blues finally clinched the playoffs this week, and if you told me 3 months ago that we'd be fighting for the division I'd have said "yeah and 25 year old goalies can debut after 6 years in professional hockey and contend for the Calder." Memes do come true i guess14 (12)Vegas Golden Knights-542-30-70-3-1Even the Stone age is not invulnerable to having average goaltending.15 (13.72)Dallas Stars141-31-73-0-1I put the Stars at 8 this week because we earned 7/8 points and we look like the Western team to beat heading into the playoffs. My major concern is that we win too much and end up in a worse matchup against Nashville.16 (14)Montreal Canadiens-142-29-82-1-017 (17.52)Arizona Coyotes-38-33-82-0-1That game against the Avalanche could be the final dagger in this season but as we have been doing we keep clawing our way back. Just need some help.18 (18.08)Colorado Avalanche136-29-132-0-02 Big wins this week! We beat back the two desert teams, to establish our selves in the second wild card. Its not over yet, but we have control of our own destiny. The Captain is back just in time for or final push. On the bad side Rantanen's injury might be a bit more severe than first reported, but he should be back for the playoffs. One final push this week we need at least two wins, three guarantees it. Also Cale Makar is Hype and Avs prospects are showing well in the NCAA tourney.19 (19.68)Minnesota Wild136-34-91-2-0And so closes the window on the Minnesota Wild.20 (20.44)Philadelphia Flyers-237-34-81-2-0Fade us fam. Hail Gritty. Praise be unto Wawa. And screw William Hill commercials.21 (21.52)Florida Panthers-35-32-122-2-0Roberto has turned back the clock again. We still don’t know if this is his final season but if it is lets give him a sendoff that he deserves.22 (21.92)Chicago Blackhawks-34-33-111-1-1The Blackhawks' PP went 3 for 32 in March (29th in NHL), the PK allowed 10 goals in 32 opportunities (also, 29th). Excluding empty net goals, 5 of the Blackhawks' 7 losses this month were by 1 goal. They'd likely be in a much different position playoff-wise if they'd gotten some help from their special teams. DeBrincat (5G, 5A in March) has caught up to Kane (1G, 10A) for the team's lead in goals at 41. DeBrincat is the second-youngest Hawk to hit the 40-goal mark (after JR). That also makes him and Kane the second pair of American-born 40-goal scorers on a team (after Mullen & Stevens, 91-92 Penguins), and the first pair of Hawks since the 90-91 season (Roenick & Larmer). Gustafsson (5G, 4A) scored his 17th goal of the season, the most by a Hawks dman since Byfuglien in 09-10 (also 17). Caggiula returned from a concussion on Sat, while Kampf left with a facial/dental injury. When healthy, Kampf has been one of the best defensive forwards in the league. Sikura still awaits his first NHL goal.23 (23.36)Vancouver Canucks134-35-102-1-0The future is here, sort of. It's here like the era of the electric car is here - there's plenty of flashy things to get excited about, but there's still many, many hurdles to overcome. The arrival of Quinn Hughes allows this season to end on a warm note and leaves many hopeful that the Canucks might secure one of those "young team overperforming" playoff berths next year. It was also pretty awesome to see Edler crack the all-time goalscoring record for a defenceman. Otherwise, the lack of regulation wins prevents this team from moving much either way in the power rankings.24 (23.92)Edmonton Oilers-134-35-91-1-125 (25)Anaheim Ducks-133-37-102-1-0Rakell must not think we are out of the playoff race. He had a natural hat trick against the oilers. Ducks keep on slipping slipping slipping up the standings and out of the jack Hughes race. Best part of the week: Jake Dotchin has to exit the game yesterday because he was technically scratched while playing for an injured player26 (26.52)New York Rangers131-34-132-2-0Georgiev is starting to show why he is the heir apparent to the throne.27 (26.6)Detroit Red Wings231-38-104-0-028 (27.48)Buffalo Sabres-231-38-100-4-1I'm willing to give goaltending a pass for now, given how god-awful our defense has been. This week we lost to not one, not two, but THREE of the four teams below us in the standings. In March we have 2 wins, and neither came in regulation. If you look back further, we have 3 total wins in our last 21 games played, and as I write we are down 0-3 to Columbus. In that stretch we have been out-scored 45-84. If that isn't depressing enough for you, just remember that we were first place in the league at one point this season. Where are we now? Oh yeah, bottom five.
