Outlander star Caitríona Balfe will star in upcoming boxing drama The Cut opposite Orlando Bloom. The actress is currently filming in Nevada, and a recent first-look picture from set has given fans a glimpse of her character. Balfe has traded her brunette locks for a shorter, blonde do and has been snapped wearing cargo pants and a grey top and zip cardigan. The film, from director Sean Ellis, follows a boxer (Bloom, who also co-produces) coming out of retirement to vie for his championship title through a gruelling and unsanctioned weight cut program. The protagonist trains with a coach who knows no limits, progressively alienating himself from reality and loved ones, as he spirals out of control. Ellis is directing an adapted screenplay by Justin Bull (known for movie Little Rituals) from a story by Mark Lane. As for Balfe, the Belfast star will reprise the role of Claire Fraser in the second half of the seventh season due to arrive in 2024. The first half premiered on June 16, with the beloved period drama announced to be ending with an eighth and final chapter down the line.
Congratulations to Caitriona on the new role! 👏👏👏

Some oscar nom thoughts:
1. I was 80% right with my predictions yesterday yay!
2. Everywhere Everywhere All At Once, Triangle of Sadness and All Quiet on the Western Front overperfomed and got almost all nominations they realistically could. Every major actor in EEAAO got in and seems like the Academy likes it more than expected. There were suspicions that it would be too weird for old conservative leaning members, but right now its chances of winning Best Picture look good
3. Babylon and Top Gun Maverick underperformed somewhat. Movies that were completely shut out include She Said, Decision to Leave and Nope (horror curse strikes again)
4. After two back-to-back years with a female filmmaker winning Best Director we have an all-male director category again
5. Paul Dano was this year’s Caitriona Balfe, pushed aside over a veteran actor in a small role
6. Things that made me happy: Brian Tyree Henry in Supporting. Paul Mescal and Stephanie Hsu getting in. The Batman in Sound and Makeup and hairstyling. Puss in Boots! Mitski an oscar nominee!
7. Things that made me angry: Whatever the fuck happened in the lead actress category. I will never again want to hear that oscars aren’t racist, especially against black people. Danielle Deadwyler and Viola Davis both gave phenomenal performances and were considered locks, and their spots went to Andrea Riseborough’s weird industy plant act and Ana de Armas’ poor wide-eyed imitation in an atrocious movie
8. Andrea Riseborough’s last-minute manufactured blitzkrieg oscar campaign actually working completely changes the game going forward. Turns out you don’t need to do careful year old award campaigns; you can just call your industry friends 2 weeks before the nominations and tell them to praise you on social media with copypasted posts and boom you’re in. We’re probably going to see campaigns like this every year from now on. I actually think it’s kind of hilarious and who says there is one right way to do campaigns (and they always include some level of manufacturing anyways) but it blatantly came at the cost of Danielle Deadwyler losing, Deadwyler being also a fairly unknown actress in a small movie. What is going to happen to people who don’t have connections like Riseborough? I don’t see people helping out black actors like Deadwyler like this

Caitriona Balfe (‘Outlander’): For season 6, ‘I had to dig deep with Claire in a way that I hadn’t before’ [Exclusive Video Interview]
“I had to dig deep with Claire in a way that I hadn’t before,” admits Caitriona Balfe about the particularly challenging sixth season of the Starz drama “Outlander,” which explores a shattered Claire’s attempts at coping with the trauma of being abducted and brutally assaulted. “Last season we really got to explore a different side of Claire that I was kind of shocked that we were doing. When they first came to me with this storyline about the ether,” the actress reveals.
“I was quite intrigued but I was also a little bit like, ‘really, is that her? I don’t know.’ But actually, it was a really interesting way of showing with severe trauma how that can absolutely just blow someone’s psyche apart and when that happens, how does that person heal from that and come back from that? It was a really big challenge,” she says for our recent webchat, adding that “exploring what her deepest, darkest fears were was very interesting, but what I love the most about it is that we came out the other side and showed that from these kinds of trauma, you can really explore growth and show growth and show healing.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.
Season 6 opens with Claire (Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) back at Frasers’ Ridge in the wake of Claire’s brutal assault, while the threat of the Revolutionary War looms in the background. After a series of dramatic highs and devastating lows, the truncated sixth season (due to Balfe’s pregnancy and the pandemic) concluded with a riveting shoot-out followed by Claire’s wrongful arrest for the murder of Malva Christie (Jessica Reynolds). Balfe says that she is so proud of the season overall because cast and crew pulled it off under challenging circumstances, the least of which was that during production, the SAG and BAFTA nominee was expecting her first child. “I was literally waddling from one place to the next,” she jokes about the difficulty of persevering through a physically demanding shoot while pregnant. “Trisha Biggar our costume designer did wonders,” she recalls. “We would have fittings every week to two weeks, where things would be getting let out, but she very cleverly created these those waistcoats I was wearing that loosen in the back,” Balfe explains.
Fans are now eagerly anticipating the supersized seventh season, with cast and crew already in the thick of production. “It’s been a really great start. I mean, I would say for all of us, this has felt like such a rejuvenation this season, because I think obviously last season was really tough. It was I think for everybody, just the circumstances,” she shares. “We were all locked down, it was a bit of a grind. It was a great season and we felt really proud of the work, but I think it was a really taxing season on everyone personally. But this season, maybe it’s just that we’re all like ‘oh, the world is open again and we’re all back,’ but it felt really strong,” Balfe declares happily, adding that they “all feel very organized; it just feels really great, so we’re all excited about it!”

The BAFTA released their longlist of films that will potentially end up on the final ballot. I find the releasing of longlists unnecessary timewasting. Just give us the final ballot because as Brandy sang; "Almost doesn't count." One body that released the pin is SAG-AFTRA who announced their nominees for this year's SAG Awards. The only shocker on this list is that Kristen Stewart who is most awarded female actor this season didn't garner a nomination. Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role Caitriona Balfe (Belfast) Cate Blanchett (Nightmare Alley) Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) Kirsten Dunst (The Power of the Dog) Ruth Negga (Passing)
*Actor/director Rebecca Hall
was drawn to adapt the novel "Passing" because of the parallels of the story with her life as Hall suspected her mother,, opera singer Maria Ewing, was biracial with African American heritage, something her mother danced around and would always say she didn't know definitively.
Making the film and appearing on PBS' "Finding Your Roots" provided Hall with many answers. Her mother told her that by making the film Rebecca gave Ewing and her late father (who also passed for white) "liberation". It's a great thing because Hall's mother passed away yesterday. Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey, I'm Your Man) honoured her. Stevens first break came by way of Ewing's husband, theatre director Peter Hall. Stevens was also classmates with Rebecca and her costar in a play and in film.
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role Ben Affleck (The Tender Bar) Bradley Cooper (Licorice Pizza) Troy Kotsur (CODA) Jared Leto (House of Gucci) Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Power of the Dog) Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role Olivia Colman (The Lost Daughter) Lady Gaga (House of Gucci) Jennifer Hudson (Respect) Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos) Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye

Shame: a long-overdue rant
(Inspired by a new follower who failed my vetting process and was blocked in less than an hour)
Let's talk about shame. Let's talk about what it is and what it is not. Specifically, "body shaming".
I know a little about being made to feel shame about my own body. In 1989, on vacation, my Dad (whom I love dearly) took his three kids to a Burger King. At the table, he said: "You know, Audra, I'd like to see your hips come in a little."
I was 16 and weighed 130 pounds. I didn't even have a tummy pooch. His words stung me. To this day, I have no idea why he said it, and the memory still sucks. I could barely eat for days.
I was ashamed.
My Grandma Henrietta knew something about shame. This is her and my Grandpa Cally (short for Calvin) at their wedding in 1936, which happened because they "had to get married". My Aunt Lynette was a teeny, tiny guest at the ceremony.
(I've included a before along with the official portrait, because these two really did adore each other... and you definitely can't tell from the official portrait!)
One night, Cally kept Henrietta out past her curfew driving around town on his super cool motorcycle with a sidecar, and she came home to a locked house. Her father was intractable. He would not let her in. She had nowhere to go on a cold night... so she spent the night at Cally's family's home. Teenagers being teenagers, things happened.
It gets worse: in order to even get to have a ceremony in their church, 17-year-old Henrietta had to confess her "sin" before a group of elders, all of whom were men born in the 1800's. (If you're wondering, no. Cally didn't have to make an appearance. It's been a man's world for a very long time, kids.)
So there she was, not yet 18, pregnant, and married. The embarrassment she felt from having premarital sex after being locked out of her house, coupled with having to discuss her "sin" with a bunch of old church perverts, and the strain of having to cobble together a quickie church wedding took its toll. As her pregnancy advanced, and she felt the baby move or kick, she would wrap her arms around her tummy to block it from view.
She was ashamed.
Those are two examples of real, actual body shaming: one creating insecurity where none previously existed, and one creating a small-town scandal with Grandma Henrietta as its protagonist. My Dad intended to shame me in order to improve myself in his eyes. The church elders intended to shame my Grandma into submission.
Both examples make me sick.
Hey.
You know what's *NOT* shameful?
Noticing when someone's pregnant.
Admitting to yourself that yes, you do indeed see a baby bump in a photo.
Wanna see mine?
Here it is, from my baby shower in 1996 at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis, where I worked at the time:
(And no, I have no idea what that face was for)
Hey, look. There's a baby bump in that photo. You see it. It's ok, you can look at my tummy. No one's going to revoke your feminist membership card. I'm 8 months pregnant in that photo, and everyone could see it... whether they came to my shower or not.
Because I have looked like that, I recognize this:
That's a pregnant Caitriona Balfe in 2017.
Noticing is not body shaming. I'm not calling her overweight, like my Dad did to me. I'm not telling her she's sinned, like the church elders did to my Grandma. I'm saying: I see a baby bump. If you're at all interested in being intellectually honest, you see it, too. Her hands are resting on it, much like one of mine did above. It's unwieldy, it's cumbersome, it's solid, and it makes a nice shelf. What the hell else are you supposed to do with your hands?
Why would you think that this is intentional shaming?
Because she wasn't publicly married then?
You must be a church elder from 1936.
Because you wish she hadn't been pregnant, and you'd like to pretend this didn't happen?
You must be a Starz/Sony executive.
Averting your eyes doesn't make you a feminist. It makes you willfully blind to a beautiful, happy woman in an advancing pregnancy that she obviously welcomed.
Maybe that's not feminist enough for you.
I see a gorgeous, pregnant Caitriona Balfe, making a public appearance in her third trimester, even though she didn't address it.

Stars Align: Chapter 8
‘STOP! BEFORE YOU FUCKING RUIN EVERYTHING!’ Sam came to his senses just as quickly as he lost them before his lips met hers.
He pulled back, which seemed to bring Cait back to her senses as well. Sam lowered her gently to the ground and reluctantly let go of her. She let go of his neck before her feet even reached the ground, then blushed a fierce red. They both stared at the ground and said nothing for longer than what was comfortable. They then realised that they were completely alone in the ring. They were in a trance of ecstasy so strong that they didn’t notice the instructor leave with Alfie.
‘He…he was about to kiss me! He tilted his head and leant in even closer! He didn’t let go of me! Oh my god, that must mean he feels it too…or maybe it was just in the heat of the moment…no…this keeps happening! It must mean he likes me! Oh my…fuck, what the fuck is wrong with you?! AGAIN, you are trying, hoping that this fantasy will happen! It’s not going to happen! Stop torturing yourself! Kiss or no kiss, nothing will come of it, if you want to have a job. You are not going to ruin your career over a man. It’s a good thing he stopped, it would’ve made things extremely awkward, and possibly even ruin our friendship, and our chemistry in the show. It was just a…close call. Oh fuck…how long were we like that…? Did the instructor see? What if he mentions something to Ron…fuck!’ Cait internally panicked.
Finally, Sam built up the courage to ask, “are you sure you’re alright?” he shyly made contact with her eyes.
Cait wouldn’t look anywhere but the ground and bit her nail nervously, as she waited for her face (and other places) to stop burning.
“Cait? I’m…I’m sorry I…I don’t know why I…but Cait believe me, I –,” Sam tried to explain.
“I’m alright, Sam. Don’t worry. Thank you for helping me down,” Cait carefully peered up into his worried eyes.
He could see how pink her cheeks were then and knew that she was just as embarrassed as he was.
‘Wow, she’s really blushing! Did she want me to kiss her? Is that what she was waiting for? Is that what she keeps waiting for every time we just get lost in each other like that? Fuck I don’t know…maybe I just made her really uncomfortable…or maybe she’s blushing because of the panic from what happened with Alfie…quickly move past this and forget it happened!’ Sam demanded himself.
“It’s okay. Hasn’t scared you completely off horse riding, has it?” Sam joked teasingly.
Cait smiled and shook her head, moving some of her hair off her forehead, “no. I’m still a bit nervous, but I’m not traumatised. Maybe Alfie just doesn’t like me…”
“How could he not? I…I mean,” Sam stammered, embarrassed, “he’s…uh…he’s probably just having an off day, or something just spooked him.”
The riding instructor entered back into the riding ring then, clearing his throat as he walked towards them, Alfie trailing behind. Cait didn’t know why she did it, but she flinched and instinctively took a step backwards from Sam.
“Again, so sorry that happened, lass. He’s pretty calm now, did ye want to give it another go?” asked the instructor.
“Sure,” Cait nodded.
She carefully approached Alfie, stroked his neck, and put her foot in the stirrup. She was able to pull herself up on the first go this time, and just as gracefully as the first time. The instructor went through his lesson with her, repeating the instructions he gave before. Luckily, Alfie really was calm now. It was like a totally different horse.
“Good boy, Alfie,” Cait praised, stroking the horse’s mane and neck.
“Aye, he’s in a much better mood now. Would you like to try trotting?” asked the instructor.
“Uh…okay,” Cait answered nervously.
She peeked over to the side where Sam was still watching her. He nodded encouragingly and gave her that sweet smile that made her blush. She smiled back, bit her lip, and shyly looked away.
“So, what ye goin’ te do is apply some pressure to his belly with ye lower legs, and pull back on the reins gently, so there is less slack, aye?” the instructor explained as he walked next to Alfie and Cait.
Cait followed his instructions, and on the fourth attempt Alfie sped up and transitioned into a trot.
“That’s it, lass! Now you want to keep ye posture straight, and see if ye can match his rhythm, to stop ye bouncin’ about in the saddle,” the instructor said as he quickened his pace to keep up with the horse.
“Okay,” Cait choked out nervously, as she bounced up and down, heart thumping like crazy and her breath lodged in her throat.
Cait took some deep breaths, sat up straighter, held on to the reins tight, without pulling on them, and attempted to match Alfie’s trotting. It took her a few minutes to work it out, but when she did, she immediately felt the difference and smiled wide.
“That’s it, Cait! Yeah!” Sam cheered with a few claps and a bright smile.
“Och, ye’re a natural, lass! A quick learner aye!” the instructor praised, “ye’ll be a pro in no time!”
Cait giggled as she and Alfie continued to trot around the ring. She was enjoying herself more and more, the longer it went on. After ten minutes, she was completely confident and relaxed, and even excited about this whole horse-riding thing.
“Alright Caitriona, we’ll give him a wee break and a drink of water. Pull back slightly to transition him back into a walk and see how you go leading him to the water buckets,” advised the instructor.
Cait nodded, gently pulled back on the reins and Alfie came to a very slow walk and shook his head. This made Cait giggle, and she untangled his mane and gave him a few strokes on the neck. She gave the reins some more slack, and pretty easily lead Alfie to the water buckets.
“Well done, lass!” the instructor admired.
“Thank you,” Cait grinned down at him.
Sam wandered over to the other side of the ring where Cait was. The instructor walked away to get his clipboard.
Sam stroked the side of Alfie’s face with his knuckles and smiled up at Cait.
“See? You’re a natural, Caitriona Balfe. Nothing to worry about,” Sam tapped her knee.
Cait let out a small laugh and rolled her eyes, “I wouldn’t say that.”
Sam giggled, “nah really, you’ve done well today, Cait, even with the hiccup before. And only being a beginner.”
Cait grinned down at him and shrugged one shoulder, “why, thank you,” fluttering her eyelashes jokingly.
“So, Ron told me I’m to lead ye all on a wee trail ride in the mornin’. He actually wants me to take ye all on morning trail rides for the next four days, ye ken. To get ye used to the terrain and different locations and the like. Riding in different conditions, aye. And for you to practise with ye sword, Sam,” the instructor explained.
Sam perked up then and smiled. He rubbed his hands together, “ah, excellent!”
Cait and the instructor giggled slightly, his big, round belly shaking in the process. He pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose and glanced up at Cait.
“A wee bit more practise here and ye’ll be fine on the trails tomorrow, lass,” the instructor determined.
“Okay,” Cait nodded, then her eyes quickly met Sam’s, who met hers with an encouraging smile.
“Alright Cait, I have to get to weapons training now. Do you have anything else on after this?” Sam asked.
“No, I might try and find Lotte and Nell, see if they’re doing anything,” Cait shrugged and tilted her head.
“Alright yeah, if I see them around, I’ll let them know,” Sam reassured.
“Thank you, Sam. Have fun at weapons training, I’m sure you will,” Cait nodded with a knowing smile.
“So, we’re all meeting here in the mornin’ at 7, Sam. I’ll see you then, good day to ye,” the instructor tipped his little grey cap.
“No worries, mate. See you then, and thanks again,” Sam shook his hand once more, then glanced at Cait, winked and held his hand up in a wave as he turned and walked away.
She could only offer him another smile, he turned around and was off so quickly. She didn’t have time to wave back and felt awkward.
Cait sighed quietly, ‘oh well. Fuck stop staring at his arse! He needs to stop winking at me…it drives me crazy…in the good way…I swear I can smell him on me…focus Caitriona!’
Cait shook her head slightly, trying to clear it. Then her mind drifted back to their almost kiss. How their bodies were so close together, breathing one breath and locked onto each other’s eyes. The enticing smell of his breath…
“Alright lass let’s go over what we’ve learnt today. Let’s get goin’ with a walk and then transition into a wee trot,” the instructor asked, making Cait flinch and breaking her reverie completely, although she was thankful for it.
Cait trotted around the ring on Alfie for another forty minutes, gaining more and more confidence.
**
Cait thanked the instructor and gave him her helmet. She waved goodbye, gave Alfie one last stroke, then turned around to see Lotte and Nell waiting behind the gate for her, smiling cheerfully.
“Oh hi!” Cait smiled back, waving.
She hugged both of them.
“We were actually coming up here to see if you wanted to come to lunch with us and bumped into Sam who said you were wanting to see us!” Lotte explained, her green eyes sparkling.
“Yeah, I thought we could have a little down time to get to know each other better before –,” Cait began.
“The craziness begins? Yes, we thought that too,” Nell looked at Lotte and grinned.
The three talked and laughed as they made their way to the nearest restaurant.
**
During their meals, Nell piped up, “just between us ladies, Sam is to DIE FOR, isn’t he?!” she gushed.
Cait sucked her top lip into her mouth, looked at her lap briefly then looked at Lotte.
Lotte gave Cait a knowing look, before looking at Nell, “he uh…has nice eyes, yeah,” Lotte nodded, “a very genuine guy, from what I’ve seen. And Gary is crazy about him. Speaks so highly of him.”
Cait nodded, forcing a smile.
“He’s SO handsome!” Nell sighed dreamily.
‘Fucking hell…is this high school? Have we gone back in time? I guess she is rather young…hasn’t fully matured yet and recognised that men are more than just looks alone. And they’re not objects, most importantly.’ Cait internally rolled her eyes.
“And YOU lucky thing! You get to share a trailer with him! What’s it like?!” Nell was practically bouncing in her chair from excitement.
‘Wow, and she’s not done,’ Cait clenched.
“Um, well…he’s very polite, kind, and very professional. He’s going to be a great working partner,” Cait nodded, looking at her steak as she cut it.
“Oh, yes he will! Can’t wait, to be honest,” Nell giggled.
“Calm down there, Nell. No fraternising with co-stars, remember? Remember the contract we all signed?” Lotte teased and laughed lightly.
“I know, I know. I can still admire him though…and so what if I get way more pleasure out of kissing him in our scene than I’m meant to…I’m only a woman,” Nell shrugged and smirked.
‘Oh my god, this girl. Not woman, girl,’ Cait tensed again, ‘hold on…why are you getting so defensive? You have no reason to. Remember that. You can’t have Sam; he doesn’t belong to you…and he also doesn’t belong to Nell. Okay, enough.’
“You’re crazy, girl,” Lotte hit her on the arm, laughed, rolled her eyes, and shook her head.
Lotte then eyed Cait curiously as she quietly ate her steak. She was taking note of Cait’s reactions to Nell. She thought it was interesting. Interesting indeed.
In Cait’s mind, as she absentmindedly poked around at her steak, her thoughts, once again, drifted to her petite body being held up so tightly and so close to Sam’s, her face being so close to his that she could see the flecks of darker blue around his pupils, smelling his skin, feeling him breathe heavily against her mouth, and then…ever so slowly, leaning in to take her mouth with his. Almost.
**
Back in her trailer, Cait was laying down on her bed, staring at the ceiling and twisting a stray curl idly around her finger. She couldn’t get what Nell had said about Sam and their scene together out of her mind. What annoyed her the most was how bothered she was by it, and that she was wasting time sweating over it. She was one hundred percent jealous, and she hated it. She felt stupid for feeling that way, because she didn’t want to feel anything negative towards Nell. Sure, she was a little ditsy and immature, but still a decent person that she wanted to get along with. She’d read the book, she was aware of what happens between Laoghaire and Jamie, but she really hadn’t given it a second thought, until now. Sam had been a big distraction from the very beginning. She couldn’t think of much else most days, and that plagued her. The constant exhaustion of feeling guilty over thinking about someone that could never be hers.
‘I never thought this sort of thing would happen! I couldn’t even prepare for it! Developing a strong attraction to my co-star, having to be around him all the time, and never being able to act on or even confess my feelings! How am I going to feel once we start filming…when we start filming sex scenes! Will my feelings become stronger still…or…will they calm down and I really will just become used to him? What if getting used to him only builds my attraction to him?! No! This is just a phase of lust that will pass with time! Yes, yes it will. It has to…if not, I think I’ll lose my fucking mind,’ Cait struggled.
She breathed a deep breath in and huffed it out while covering her eyes. She let out a pained groan.
“Why can’t we just switch feelings off? They are so inconvenient sometimes!” she exclaimed to herself.
She desperately needed a distraction. She glanced over at her bedside table and saw her script. She reached up, slammed her hand down on it and snatched it toward her, aggressively.
‘Let’s go over some more fucking lines, from scenes NOT WITH SAM! Why? Because I’ve obsessed over those ones the most and have them committed to my fucking memory, OF COURSE!’ she internally screamed and rolled her eyes.
Her heart was beating at a rapid pace from her struggle and aggravation. She immersed herself in the scene she was focusing on, and her heart rate eventually came down. Luckily memorising lines was always very effective in distracting Cait’s mind. She had finally gone a good chunk of time without thinking of Sam for once that day. That was until she heard a key in the trailer door.
Sam swung the door open and stepped in. He bent forward so he could see into her room and waved to her, with a cheesy smile. It didn’t escape Cait’s attention that he was glistening with sweat and was now wearing half the number of layers he had on at horse riding. He was wearing a black, tightly fitted singlet, with his jumper and parker over his arm, in which he chucked over one of the dining chairs. His biceps were on full display, the shiny sweat exaggerating every line of muscle all the way up and across his strong, broad shoulders. Cait took all of him in, when he was turned away from her, and had to squeeze her thighs closer together, toes curled, heart rate accelerated once again. She was scared to say anything to him, as she knew she would be out of breath. Unfortunately, it was five seconds later that she had no choice but to speak.
“I did end up running into Lotte and Nell and told them you wanted to see them, which was lucky! How was it?” Sam leant in the doorway chugging a glass of water.
Cait licked her lips and swallowed hard, “um, yeah it was really nice. They’re both great women, it’ll be fun to work with them and become friends,” she replied, trying not to look at him and instead pretending to focus on her script.
“Oh, that’s good Cait,” he said, looking at her over his glass.
“Mm,” she nodded, sucking her lips into her mouth, then looked him up and down, “so, I take it you had a good time at weapons training?” she smirked.
“Ha, yes! Lots of fun, tiring though. Those swords are heavier than they look, even the daggers. Small but very heavy. But yeah, I love this physical stuff. I refuse to let any stuntmen do those scenes, I want to do it all,” Sam nodded with determination.
Cait let out a small laugh, “are you sure? You don’t want to burn out from exhaustion, or hurt yourself,” she tilted her head, concern glimmering through her eyes.
“Nah, I’ll be fine,” Sam shook his head and slightly scrunched his nose up.
‘Oh my god, adorable. No! Fuck. Stop, Caitriona!’ Cait berated herself.
“So, just going over some lines?” Sam inquired curiously.
Cait looked down at her script, “yeah, uh…,” Cait nervously let out a small laugh, tucking some hair behind her ear and blushed slightly, “I’m actually…reading over a sex scene with Tobias, in the first episode…”
Sam raised his eyebrows and nodded slowly, “ah…” he forced a small smile, as to not appear jealous in any way, “and how do you feel about it?” Sam asked, sucking his cheeks in, and looking down at his shoes.
‘I know how I fucking feel about it!’ Sam tensed.
“Quite nervous, I’ve never done this before. It’s not so much the…being naked in a room full of people, I mean, being a model has made me pretty comfortable with my body I guess…It’s…more so the act…I’m just…trying to block it in my head, to kind of prepare myself, and somehow make myself less nervous about it…” Cait bit her lip, peering up at Sam.
“Mm…” Sam looked back at her and continued to nod, “Tobias is a professional, I’m sure he’ll help you through it. I guess it’s just a matter of immersing yourself in the character, in that moment, and not thinking about anything outside of that. Not letting anything break that moment.”
‘I’ll be thinking about you…WAIT WHAT! NO!’ Cait caught herself quickly, tensing her thighs again.
Cait nodded, bringing her knees up to her chest, “okay, yeah…It’ll be fine. Once the first one is out of the way, I’m sure I’ll feel more confident. It won’t be so intimidating,” she shrugged, hugging her knees, and resting her chin on them.
“Yeah, once you get that experience, it’ll get easier,” Sam smiled reassuringly.
“Thank you for listening. I’m sorry, it’s actually kind of an awkward topic…” Cait let out a huff of a laugh and rubbed her forehead with one hand, shaking her head slightly.
“No, it’s alright. I mean…when it comes to our own…you know…those scenes, we’ll need to be able to talk about them and…you know…check in with each other…” Sam shifted nervously against the door frame.
He cleared his throat and rubbed the back of his neck, suddenly not knowing where to look.
Cait took a big, but discrete breath in, “that’s true,” burying her mouth into her knees.
“Yeah…anyway I uh…might have a shower and…get into some lines myself,” he gave Cait a brief, nervous smile and quickly scurried away to the kitchen to put his glass away.
Cait smiled, then bit her lip. The thought of essentially dry humping together with Sam, while naked, sent her pulse racing, and sweat beads to form on her chest. She hugged her knees tighter, to try and dull the throbbing that had accelerated between her legs. She couldn’t help but feel excited about it. She was far more thrilled than afraid; her attraction for him had reached a point beyond hesitancy now. She suddenly came to realise that sex scenes with Sam could be her way to relieve some pent-up sexual frustration, without anyone questioning anything. It’s a well-known fact that Claire and Jamie have extremely passionate, intense sex, allowing Cait to be just that, passionate. The best part is that it will be seen as just really great chemistry, and Cait staying true to her character’s relationship with her husband, at the end of the day. They already have great chemistry with the non-sexual scenes; another element that won’t make it suspicious.
‘I guess it’s just all about how you look at a situation…I know I can’t have the guy in real life, so I’ll just have to enjoy the fantasy of it while filming…I’m excited now, I know it’ll be fun. I’m looking forward to being close to him, and the show is the only way I’ll be able to. My nerves are just…they’ve disappeared. After today in the ring…it’s definitely changed things. I want to kiss him. I do. Badly. And I will when the scene permits it. Until then, you are going to remain professional both on and off set! Oh fuck…what if I come on too strong during those intimate scenes? Even for Claire…He can’t exactly stop because that would be blocking me, and then interrupt the scene…I’ll keep that communication with him, to make sure he’s comfortable, and I’m sure I’ll be able to read his body’s responses to mine. I’ll have full permission to be close to him during filming, and that will have to be enough.’ Cait pondered to herself smiling and gave a determined nod before falling onto her back and continuing her reading.
Meanwhile, in the bathroom, Sam set the shower to cold first, it was much needed after the mention of sex scenes to Cait. That got his mind racing in all sorts of directions, and he was feeling more flustered about it than ever. Flustered and irritable, at the mention of sex scenes with Tobias.
‘Why the fuck are you pissed about that? Completely stupid. She’s a professional, you’re a professional, and she’s your co-star, as well as Tobias’ co-star. That’s the way it is. Get used to it. Don’t be a fucking idiot,’ Sam struggled, laying his forehead against the tiled wall, watching the water spill down the bridge of his nose and fall, drop by drop.
**
The next three days of two-hour trail rides was pleasant, as the cast had many opportunities to see the vast landscapes of Scotland and admire its beauty, with the weather holding up nicely. Sam would attempt to keep his horse next to Alfie and Cait, so he was able to talk to her and experience this with her. It was also a chance for him to share his knowledge with her about the different places they visited on their rides.
On the third day, during the fifteen minute break they took before heading back, to give the horses a drink, Sam took the opportunity to help Cait get her foot out of Alfie’s stirrup, ask how she was feeling about all the riding, and just be with her in general. Cait was also the only woman in the group, another reason why Sam wanted to make sure she didn’t feel awkward or left out. She got along with all the other men. They all found her witty, hilarious, and easy to talk to, and were very interested about her experiences in Ireland.
‘Am I overdoing it? Am I making it completely obvious? Maybe I should back off a bit…but I don’t want to give her mixed signals…but I also don’t want to make her uncomfortable with all my attention. Definitely don’t want to do anything to turn her off or make her sick of the sight of me…perhaps I’ll back off just a smidge…see if she comes to me…then I’ll know,’ Sam decided.
Sam took the opportunity to sit with Duncan Lacroix and have a conversation (as they had been developing a really good friendship), while Cait was talking to Graham and Tobias. Sam peered over to her a couple of times, subconsciously, hoping Duncan didn’t notice. When Cait’s conversation with Tobias and Graham ended, and they walked back to the group, Sam carefully watched Caitriona and noticed her eyes searching.
‘Is she looking for me?’ Sam wondered, quickly looking away but watching her out of the corner of his eye.
Sam continued his conversation with Duncan, then felt someone sit on the log beside him. He knew straight away, by the sweet smell, that it was her. He turned and smiled at her happily, and she reciprocated, then she greeted Duncan.
‘Well…there you go, I guess. She came straight back to me…oh for fuck sake, that doesn’t even mean anything! It doesn’t mean she likes you; she sees you as a friend, she’s even said that! Fuck, just stop.’ Sam tensed his jaw, looking down at the dirt for a few seconds.
It was then time to head back, and Sam decided he’d give Cait her space, it was more professional that way. He rode up front next to Graham, and Cait was next to Tobias at the back. Cait thought nothing of it. After all, they share a trailer and agreed to give each other space. With all the attention Sam had paid her that day, Cait had no reason to think something was wrong.
**
On the fourth and final day of trail riding, the weather took a turn at their break point, when they were watering the horses. The cast and riding instructor looked up at the sky and watched dark clouds gliding across the sky. Then came a low, but threatening rumble of thunder.
“Time te head back, let’s go! Or we’ll no’ beat the storm! Time to practise ye cantering lads…and lass!” the instructor bellowed.
During the trail rides, Cait had learnt how to canter around the fields with everyone else, and she was, by this point, proficient and confident.
Everyone mounted quickly and brought their horses to a canter, following the riding instructor. After only ten minutes of riding, the rain had started to pour, and the thunder and lightning had become very intense. They all had to take a detour as to avoid the forests. Cait noticed Alfie was making a lot of noises, when he had been quiet during every other trail ride. His whinnies were high-pitched, and he was breathing heavily, even when they had all stopped for brief moments. They all came to the top of a very steep ridge and stopped for a few minutes so the instructor could determine the best route to take next. Just then, Alfie made a very loud squealing sound and reared up slightly onto his hind legs, making Cait gasp. Sam instinctively reached over to Cait’s back, trying to stop her from falling. The instructor and his horse hurried over, and he held Alfie’s throat latch and made soothing sounds.
“Aye, Alfie isna coping with this storm, ye ken. It’s no’ safe for ye to be on him, lass. We’ll double ye up with someone for the rest of the way,” the instructor explained.
Cait nodded and quickly dismounted Alfie. Sam dismounted his horse intuitively, walked around to meet Cait and touched her back, rubbing it gently.
“Are you alright?” Sam asked tentatively.
“Yeah…I’m okay. I really thought I was going to fall off him,” Cait said with wide eyes.
“It’s okay, you did the right thing by grabbing the horn. Do you want to come with me?” Sam asked, pointing at his horse’s saddle.
Cait nodded and smiled at him.
Sam smiled back, wiped some rain droplets off the brim of his helmet and slightly bent down.
“Okay Cait, you go on first. He’s just very high, so I’ll give you a leg up,” Sam explained, looking up at her.
“Okay…” Cait stepped into his hands with one foot, “sorry about the mud!”
“Don’t worry,” Sam reassured, then lifted her effortlessly up, and she grabbed hold of the saddle and swung her leg over.
Cait shifted forward in the saddle to make room for him.
“Uh…sorry I just have to hold on here,” Sam carefully and hesitantly held on to the horn and reins, which made his arm rest against her thigh.
Sam quickly pulled himself up and over but bumped into Cait’s back as he landed in the saddle, jolting her forwards.
“Oh, I’m so sorry, Cait!” Sam exclaimed with worry, holding her arm.
“No, it’s okay, I’m alright,” Cait reassured, turning her head.
“Hold on, let me just…get this,” Sam gave Cait the reins, then strained as he was half turned around, fiddling with something on the back of the saddle.
Suddenly both of his arms stretched out on either side of Cait, and a big, woollen blanket engulfed her. She caught it with her free hand and held it against her.
“Aw, thank you, Sam. That’s really sweet,” Cait turned her head and smiled at him, then gave him the reins and hugged the blanket to her chest.
“Just don’t want you to get sick, you only just avoided that,” Sam replied, close to her ear.
Cait giggled, burying her face into the blanket.
“This is more practise for the show, Sassenach,” Sam pointed out, cheekily.
Cait giggled lightly, “true! First episode.”
“Uh huh,” Sam replied.
During the ride, Sam rested one hand on his leg, and held the reins in the other, with his arm stretched out on the side of Cait’s body. He was determined to hold his arm up, with the reins, and not let it sink down onto her leg. It didn’t escape Cait’s notice that his arm did indeed keep sinking down, but he would jolt it back up.
“Sam, your arm is going to get really sore. It’s alright, just…” Cait reassured, lowering Sam’s arm to rest on her leg.
“Thank you, I was starting to shake, but I didn’t want to…” Sam stammered.
“I know,” Cait smiled.

Time for Torchwood
(Here's an interview I did with actor Steven Cree, which appeared in the Ayrshire Post, Kilmarnock Standard and Irvine Herald, after he appeared in Big Finish Torchwood audio Uncanny Valley. From 25 March 2016)
An Ayrshire actor has been putting the world in danger in his latest role. Steven Cree, from Kilmarnock, has locked horns with John Barrowman in an audio episode of hit TV series Torchwood. The former pupil of Grange Academy was delighted to feature in the series, a spin-off from Doctor Who, in a fully-licensed play produced by London-based Big Finish Productions. Steven is no stranger to the world of cult television, having played Ian Murray in the international hit series Outlander, which is filmed in Cumbernauld and around Scotland, has already visited Ayrshire, as last July hundreds of cast and crew set up at the historic Barskimming Estate near Mauchline, while last December stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe ilmed at Kilmarnock’s Dean Castle last week. Steven appears in the Torchwood play Uncanny Valley, which was recently released. He says: “I’d worked with the director Neil Gardner before, having first done a radio play with him about 10 years ago, and we’ve worked together a few times since. He’s really become a friend in that time. “He asked me if I’d be interested in coming in to do a Torchwood script, and he put my name forward to Big Finish. They fired the script over to me and I was completely blown away by it. “When I was describing the story to a couple of people I know, I told them I was playing a character, the haracter’s robot double, and he gets to sleep with himself and John Barrowman! “I’d never seen Torchwood when it was on television, but I was very aware of it. I knew it was a bit of a bonkers world, and this story, every by Torchwood standards, was kind of off the wall.” Neil was delighted to get the chance to work with his fellow Scot John Barrowman, who plays Torchwood’s charismatic leader Captain Jack Harkness. Steven revealed: “I’m a big fan of John Barrowman and was quite excited to get to work with him as he’s a fellow Scot. “He was in Palm Springs, recording his side of it, and it was about 9am for him, and it was around 6pm for me. “When I was speaking to him, he slipped back into his native accent. A lot of people think he puts it on, but really, when he speaks to another Scot, he just slips back into it. I could tell his accent was authentic! “We had a great laugh, because we have a similar sense of humour, and we were both trying to outshock each other! “Considering it was first thing in the morning for him, he was really bright and ready to go. It was good fun.” Steven has a number of big screen credits to his name, including 300: Rise of an Empire, and Maleficent, with Angelina Jolie. He also provided a voice in the Pixar film Brave. He’s also featured in TV series including the BBC’s Lip Service, and as John Henderson in the second series of ITV’s Shetland. However, it’s Outlander that has brought him lots of recognition, at home and abroad. Steven tells The Ticket: “Outlander has been an amazing thing to be a part of. It’s rather like Game of Thrones, in that not a lot of people knew about it until it was brought to television screens. “It now has its own cult following, with millions of fans all over the world. “I’m not on Twitter or any social media sites like that, but I’ve met quite a few of the fans over the years, so I’m aware just how fiercely loyal and enthusiastic they are about the show. It’s very cool. “I get recognised the odd time, but really, no one has any idea who I am because I look so different from my character in the show. There’s never any real danger of being recognised, in that sense. It’s the ideal situation! “But it’s great to be in the series - I’m very proud of it. I was just gutted that I missed out when they were filming in Kilmarnock - I wasn’t in any of that! “I’m now based in London, but I like to get up the road when I can - I’m a big Kilmarnock fan so am always looking out for their results. “I was up when we were shooting season two of Outlander, so yes, I love coming home.”

It’s all a conspiracy, I tell ya. TBTB, The powers that be, are actually lizards, aren’t they?
These quotes from a recent over-excited post by three ‘fans’ . I’ve taken off the names to spare them the blushes when Caitriona and Tony’s Wedding Certificate comes out. But hey, that’ll be ‘faked’ too, won’t it? (my emphases)
‘Fan A’
Remember when this came out and Sam was Glamour’s no. 63 in their top 100 sexiest men. Selling the Highland warrior... one who obviously dates but is not in a committed relationship or about to get married, so women feel he’s available. We don’t see this quite so much now I guess given many people are onto the Fantasy man deal. Cait of course gets a mention here so it totally supports the opinion that the ONLY woman that could EVER threaten the sexy Highland warrior image is Caitriona. It was necessary to EXCLUDE her from the equation (imo FvF career carrot) as a sister who had a remarkable ‘wedding’ that the Highland warrior attended as a guest. Cait’s out, Sam’s obsession’s safe. No brainer. What’s interesting is that Sam never used to sell this well but since his meeting at Disney with Parnell and MIK got a gig, he’s now on board publicly running any connection to Cait under a bus. He’s backing the total burial of his own identity as a partner or family man which we’ve never seen before. As I’ve mentioned a number of times whatever Sam had in the pipeline to push him to do this must he big. Not sure how he’ll be with Cait in public...now she’s a sister...but he used to continually single her out as an important person in his life. The thing is...the universe kept them on side and supported their love for the way he did that imo. You start verbalising and the universe starts hearing...just sayin Sam. Of course the fly in the ointment in all this is if Sam has some little people in his life that look like him. Man, they’d certainly have those little rascals hidden away now and God forbid if anyone’s onto that! They’d be attacked and defamed for sure! I mean, we already know SC have their barrels locked and loaded incase shit hits the fan. Sam’s bullying letter and the evidence of killer-stalker grannies intruding on them is already there for any pissed off, played, Sam obsessed women to turn their anger onto Shippers and away from them. It’s there in place all ready to go. Sam and Cait can sit back and watch the onslaught of online bullying in their name from afar. It’s not going to be pretty but we know it’s coming. And let’s face it, they needed an out and we always knew it would be us. They can’t exactly turn around and run TPTB under a bus....they needed an exit strategy ready to go. The one thing they DON’T want is for the Sam obsessed to cotton on to the game before the pigs at the trough have had their fill...that everyone is satisfied and things have been ‘worth their while’. It’s not rocket science. Pandemic or not the sexy Highland warrior needs protecting as does the ‘exit strategy’.... Interestingly articles like this are becoming increasingly harder to find...I can see why....makes the whole game pretty obvious doesn’t it? Can’t have the Sam obsessed reading too many of these now they’ve been played for 6 years. What they are counting on is for those played women to be pretty dumb and latch onto the hooks in the exit strategy provided. I hope for their sake they’re right....they’ll already have enough pain from the years of lost moments and lies to haunt them...that’s if the universe continues to be on their side...and unfortunately the truth always has a way of coming out no matter how hard anyone tries to stop it...I mean...shared trailers and all...right Matt? Right Sam?? I say just come out already and get it over with before this happens!
‘Fan’ B
This post is the brutal truth. But there is one more vector in this rocket ride from the galaxy to the garbage dump....the quality of the Series itself. Like the “6-year lie....the show’s “real creative director” is driving the Series from “excellence” to the garbage dump as well. Start watching the Series from Season 1 and continue through Season 5....it plunges downward from excellence to a Season 4 flop...then gives us a little blip upward in Season 5. This downward trajectory matches identically with the lie about their private lives. As the lie became more ridiculous with time....so did the Series. How do the people in charge of this circus keep their jobs???? Who knows....maybe the virus will be the real killer of this misery. But I especially like this part of the post......” Of course the fly in the ointment in all this is if Sam has some little people in his life that look like him.”
FAN C
Well said, Fan A and Fan B Since its inception, this ‘fake narrative’ has become more and more unbelievable and ridiculous. I thought adding the ‘fauxgagement’ hit the all time low, but then add the ‘fauxmarriage’ to someone who could not swing his ‘bat’ in the direction of a woman if he wanted to. He as well as Caitriona look like they swallowed a glass of sour milk when they are ‘forced’ to stand within 3 feet of each other. Then add in the list of ‘hot sexy girlfriend’s’ that supposedly shared Sam’s bed and you have a runaway locomotive that’s going to soon hit a brick wall. Sam’s calling Caitriona his ‘we are together AND we work together’ significant other to his ‘sister’ has caused this narrative to hit rock bottom. I really don’t think it can go any lower....but then I never thought Sam would call Caitriona, the mother of his children, his ‘sister’. I fully believe that all would have gone on as it’s always done....just beat the dead horse again and the ‘newbie’s’ will never know that it’s all a ‘shit show, UNTIL COVID19 hit the world with the Pandemic. Not only did it implode Hawaiigate, it’s now gotten into the Hollywood Hills with ‘social distancing’ guidelines. And we all know that Sex and Violence are the Hollywood $$$$$$$ makers. Put that into Outlander language, Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe, who play Jamie and Claire Fraser will NOT BE ALLOWED TO TOUCH, KISS, OR HAVE HOT SMOLDERING SEX WITHIN SEASON 6. OMG, and I thought Season 4 was bad...this will be the downfall of the series. Subscriptions with STARZ will cancel like flies on shit. If by chance they do produce a Season 6, the ratings would plummet. Who wants to watch Jamie and Claire have ‘fucking eye sex’, 6 feet from each other. Remember, no touching and you must wear a mask. UNLESS, THE TIME HAS FINALLY COME TO TEAR DOWN THAT WALL OF LIES, SAVE THE SERIES, SAM AND CAITRIONA ARE MARRIED! Because as a married couple, they can touch, kiss and have mind blowing sex within a scene....because “THEY ARE MARRIED”! What’s it going to be Parnell? Who IMO, has his balls wedged between a vice with the prospect of losing Sony/STARZ/LG’s top ‘cash cow’...are you willing to sacrifice the Outlander, Season 6 and possibly more? Or are you a smart businessman (cough, cough) and you and Hirsch will give your ‘ok’ to let the ‘Cait’ out of the bag and announce that Sam and Caitriona are married and have been since late 2015. The balls in your court Parnell....and for once, use your brains instead of your mini balls to make the right decision. I think your job and your career depend on it!
SEE ! Photographic proof! That’s Parnell standing right next to the Queen!

‘Belfast’ Star Caitriona Balfe Is Enjoying the Film’s ‘Wild Ride’ Through Awards Season
Making Kenneth Branagh's film was like being "released into this world of Ken's imagination," the actress said. For the fun to keep going is an added delight.
The plaudits for “Belfast” seem to be endless. They started in September at the Toronto film festival, where Kenneth Branagh’s coming-of-age-movie set in 1969 won the People’s Choice Award. And they’ve kept pouring in ever since, in the form of nominations from dozens of prominent critics groups and guilds. Earlier this month, SAG nominated the “Belfast” cast for best ensemble — in addition to singling out Caitriona Balfe for her impassioned turn as Ma, a no-nonsense mother of two boys caught in the crossfire of sectarian violence in Northern Ireland.
The sustained recognition Balfe has been enjoying has provided an unexpected second act to her “Belfast” experience (all while upping the Oscar buzz). “It’s been such a wild ride,” the actress told TheWrap. “When we started this journey a year ago, we were shooting during the pandemic. We never really knew what was going to become of this film. I think we were just all so focused on the fact we got to be working — and we got to be working on such an amazing project. That was the beauty of it at the time. The fact that it’s just kept going and is having all of these amazing accolades, it just feels really great.”
As Ma, Balfe struggles to hold together her tight-knit family while the Troubles engulf their once peaceful Belfast neighborhood. She cares for her young cinephile son Buddy (Jude Hill) and his older brother Will (Lewis McAskie), often with help from her delightful in-laws (Ciarán Hinds as Pop and Judi Dench as Granny) while her husband (Jamie Dornan) travels to England for work. The film is based on Branagh’s own early life in Northern Ireland, before he and his family moved to England when he was 9 to escape the brewing war. And this, of course, presented Balfe and her fellow actors with a significant responsibility.
“It’s kind of a crazy thing to be asked to play a version of a director’s mother or father, but the beauty of it was that from day one, Ken put this trust in us and made us all feel like he wanted us to bring as much of ourselves to it and meet what he had already put on the page,” she said. “It took all the pressure off and it allowed us to kind of be free because I think the most important thing a director can give you is their trust, and give you confidence that you’re doing the right thing. And that you’re the right person for the role.”
Though Balfe has seen her fair share of action and battle scenes throughout six seasons of Starz’s “Outlander,” the riot scenes in “Belfast,” where Protestant vigilantes storm Buddy’s block, were her favorite to film. Molotov cocktails are hurled, bullets are fired, barricades are breached — while innocent bystanders like Ma and her family run for cover. “I mean, the whole thing felt like some sort of magical little excursion we got to take. We’d been locked down for five months and then we were released into this world of Ken’s imagination,” she said. “But the riot days — it’s the energy. When you get a big group of people together like that and see how excited little Jude was by everything that was going on. He was just absolutely buzzing on those days. There was an energy around the set constantly, but on days like that it was really special.”
Shooting during the pandemic immediately created a sense of camaraderie among Balfe and her co-stars, despite strict COVID-19 safety restrictions. (Or, in Dench’s opinion, because of those restrictions: “Perhaps it was the rigor of that that brought us together very much as a family very quickly,” she recently told TheWrap.) “It’s funny,” Balfe said. “Jamie and I have spoken about this so many times. When we were filming, we never had really cast dinners or anything like that, which you would normally have. But because of that, we all had to make a special effort to get to know each other and we became pretty close while we were filming.”
Now, of course, with omicron raging and threatening to turn yet another awards season into a string of virtual events, Balfe hasn’t had as much contact with her “Belfast” family as she’d like. “We’ve only really managed in this whole kind of crazy press tour that we’ve been doing to have dinner once,” she said. “And we all were like, ‘When we get to L.A., we’re going to have a day where we all get to hang out and just relax.’ And sadly, that feels like it’s not really going to happen. But this is a tough time for people and the fact that we have a film that we get to promote that we feel so strongly about, that’s still a very special moment.”

Remember… (on filming the riot scenes) you get a big group of people together like that and see how excited little Jude was by everything that was going on. He was just absolutely buzzing on those days. — Caitríona Balfe
