Also, consumer preference shifted towards private cars and 2-wheeler options, negatively impacting the market growth in the immediate term. However, over the long term, the market is likely to witness steady growth and recover during the forecast period.
In the global market, the ride-hailing segment by type is anticipated to witness robust growth. The segment is projected to register a CAGR of 17% from 2022 to 2028. Expansion of the ride-hailing companies in the Asia Pacific, Central and South America, and Africa, considering the market potential, is likely to drive the ride-hailing segment growth. For instance, Ola Cabs launched in the Australian city, Sunshine Coast in August 2019, and plans further expansion in Australia and New Zealand. Other factors that are rising the popularity of this mode of transport include the digital payment option, comfort, door-to-door service, and the ability to choose driver/rider. 2021 Ford Ranger FX4 SA Specs
Tumblr media
Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa officially rolled out fresh FX4 derivatives of its popular Ranger bakkie in 2021.
The two locally built FX4-badged models are offered in double-cab configuration with the Blue Oval brand’s 2,0 SiT powertrain (with the choice of 4×2 or 4×4). This 2,0-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine makes 132 kW and 420 N.m, delivered either to the rear axle or all four wheels via a ten-speed automatic transmission.
As a reminder, the Ranger FX4 slots in below the Wildtrak and Thunder models but just above the XLT on which it is based. A spot of quick maths suggests the FX4 package thus effectively costs R30 000.
Interestingly, the local launch of the FX4 derivatives signaled the arrival of FordPass Connect (and the FordPass smartphone application) to the automaker’s broader bakkie line-up. The system now ships standard on all Ranger XL, XLS, XLT, FX4, Wildtrak and Raptor models.
The app allows customers to control various vehicle functions remotely, communicating with the FordPass Connect modem embedded in the vehicle. Functions include the locking and unlocking of doors, starting the engine (to activate the climate control system), locating the vehicle and accessing information such as fuel level and oil life. The FordPass app furthermore allows owners to find Ford dealers, schedule servicing bookings, keep track of services and view the vehicle’s warranty information. It also enables “direct access” to Ford’s roadside assistance service as well as the owner’s manual.
So, back to the Ranger FX4. As we pointed out in that original story, the newcomer offers various updated styling cues, such as the black mesh grille first seen on the Thunder, black side-mirror caps, black door handles, black 18-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels and red “FX4” decals on the lower parts of the front doors (plus a 3D-effect “FX4” badge affixed to the tailgate).
The FX4 furthermore features an extended tubular sports bar and a drop-in bedliner, the latter complete with a 12 V power socket. The newcomer is available in five exterior colour choices: Sea Grey, Frozen White, Race Red, Agate Black and Moondust Silver.
Inside, you’ll find a leather-trimmed facia with red stitching, with the latter treatment repeated on the leather-wrapped steering wheel, gear lever and seats. The front pews furthermore gain embossed “FX4” logos.
The FX4 badge is not a new one to South Africa, with a similar package having been offered on the Silverton-built Ranger back in 2017. Still, this Ford Ranger version for sale is not quite as extreme as the FX4 Max kit available in markets such as Australia nor the Tremor package offered in North America, which include items such as uprated Fox shocks, all-terrain tyres and a Raptor-style grille.
As with other variants of the Ford Ranger for sale, the 2021 FX4 derivatives ship standard with a four-year/120 000 km warranty and a six-year/90 000 km service plan (with 15 000 km intervals).

Growing number of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and continuous demand for three-wheeler vehicles to drive the Global Three-Wheeler Market through 2026
According to TechSci Research report Global Three-Wheeler Market
By Vehicle Type (Passenger Carrier Vs. Load Carrier), By Fuel Type (Petrol/CNG, Diesel & Electric), By Region (Asia-Pacific, Africa, South America, Rest of the World), Competition Forecast & Opportunities, 2026”, Global Three-Wheeler Market is estimated to reach around a total of USD11.68 billion by
2026. Growth in the Global Three-Wheeler Market can be attributed to the increasing number of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME’s) across the globe,
improving road infrastructure and cheap fares of three-wheelers as compared to other forms of transportation to commute within the city. The increase in population of middle-income group, improving living standards of the people and growing tourism across the globe are booming the demand for three-wheelers across the globe. According to the International Tourism Highlights 2019 Edition report, published by the United Nations World Tourism Organization, the Asia and the Pacific region accounts for 25% of global tourist arrivals. Majority of these tourists visited South-East Asian countries, particularly countries like India, China, Sri-Lanka, Indonesia, etc. Moreover, in these countries three-wheelers are the most favorable means of local transportation. The reason for growing popularity of three-wheelers for commuting within the cities can be attributed to the fact that three-wheelers in these countries are present in abundance and provide easy accessibility and have cheap fares as compared to other means of transportation. Apart from the growing tourism, increasing popularity of electric-three wheelers in the world and continuously improving road infrastructure are also contributing to the growth of the Global Three-Wheelers Market. With growing technological advancements due to increasing awareness about the usage of smartphone apps & web applications, a recent trend has been witnessed in the three-wheeler market of Asian countries. Cab companies in conjunction with radio taxis have also started providing online three-wheeler booking services to customers. Earlier, this booking was limited to four-wheeler cabs and taxis, but due to the wide presence of three-wheelers in these countries, companies have started giving customers an easy on-click booking of three-wheelers via smartphones and personal computing devices for traveling short distances within cities. As a result, the Global Three-Wheeler market has huge penetration of three-wheelers in Radio Taxi Market. Owing to increasing number of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME’s), growing demand for Electric Three-Wheelers, continuously improving road infrastructure, the Global Three-Wheeler Market is anticipated to grow with a CAGR of 5.22% in terms of units sold in the forecast years. In 2020, three-wheelers sales declined in comparison to 2019 as countries around the world underwent strict lockdown in the second and third quarter of 2020 as a measure to counter the spread of the disease. The lockdown resulted in the temporary closing down of all factories, including three-wheeler manufacturing facilities, resulting in production loss of three-wheelers. Furthermore, the governments of most of the COVID-19 affected countries implemented social distancing norms that limited the number of workers working at any given point in the same facility. Such measures hampered the workflow of three-wheeler manufacturing facilities temporarily. As markets started to gradually open in 2020, the sales of three wheelers started to increase again, hence contributing to the recovery of the Global Three-Wheeler market recovery in the fiscal period 2021-2022.

Here I am in Mozambique, at the End
Today is my last day in Africa. If you consider Madagascar as part of Africa, which it technically is despite its geographical isolation, I have been in Africa for about two and a half years. Tomorrow I hop continents and fly to Thailand!
I’m at the end of a road here. As a kid I always dreamed of spending time in Africa because I was certain there was more to the 54-countried continent than the media showed. My assumptions were beyond correct. Africa is a luscious and thriving part of the world. There is SO much more to it than the sad ball of skewed crap we see represented in the western world. That skewed crap doesn’t even come close and it’s a damn shame.
I have never felt at risk. I have been surrounded by colors and culture and warmth and love and hospitality. I have also been engrossed in my own internal conflict. Africa doesn’t need my help. It doesn’t need anything from me or the west except for respect and an open mind. For that statement I am using the blanket term of “Africa” even though I have only been to 7 of the 54 countries.
Respect and an open mind, that’s it.
Of course Africa isn’t lacking of country specific political and racial issues… but where in the world doesn’t have these problems? Especially as an American in the Trump Era… I can’t say ANYTHING about other places having political issues.
Here I am in Mozambique, at the end. This isn’t the end, though. Mozambique will always be here and nothing will change when I leave.
I have only spent a few days in Mozambique because I have gotten tired. I’ve been traveling quickly these past two months, since I left Madagascar, and it’s caught up to me.
After roaming through Namibia-Zimbabwe-Zambia-Botswana, I took a long break in Pretoria, South Africa with one of my good friends from Afrikaburn.
It was a surreal experience. I slowed down, and sat down on one of the most comfortable couches I had experienced in 2 years and it was hard to remove myself. My South African friend was living her normal life, as a recent graduate of university she was surrounded by social activities and work. It was a lifestyle I hadn’t touched in years and it gave me culture shock. I was in it, but I wasn’t IN it. It was only temporary.
In South Africa I caught a cold. I was supposed to go to Swaziland, then head to Mozambique in time for my flight. I had time for it all but it would be quick. Moving pretty much every day, like I had in the other countries. I have trouble staying put when I am in Travel-Mode.
My friend’s mom was shocked. “You should take a break. You look exhausted. Skip Swaziland! Come stay with me! Use wifi! Relax!” She was the sweetest.
I wasn’t going to. I knew I had to keep going. But then I started to have stomach pains reminiscent to the flu. My body wanted a break.
So I caved. I spent 5 days sleeping, cooking vegetables, drinking wine, cuddly with a cute dog, and watching BBC Earth and war movies with my friend’s mom as I prepared to head to Mozambique.
Here, at the end, I present to you the most African experience one could have. It is a journey of uncertainty, complications, complete kindness of strangers, and everything magically working out after all:
Getting a visa for Mozambique was a nightmare! To get a visa at the consulate ahead of time I needed “proof of accommodation.” To get “proof of accommodation,” I had to contact a place to stay in Mozambique and have them fill out paperwork for me. Most cheap places I found didn’t have emails. The one I did find, Fatima’s Backpackers in Maputo, required “proof of transport.” Since I was originally planning to take local, unpredictable transport from Swaziland to Maputo, I couldn’t acquire “proof of transport.” (You book things like that in person, on the spot).
When my plans changed, I still was hesitant to book transport because buses that counted as “proof” refused to take someone who didn’t have a visa ahead of time. BUT I didn’t want to book transport until I had a visa in my hand and knew when I could leave!
It was a cycle of crap. A cycle a cycle a cycle.
After a few days of suppressing the issue and relaxing, then thinking about it with no real solution, I finally decided to book transportation for a night bus from Pretoria to Maputo for the upcoming Monday. I was hoping over the weekend I could get my “proof of accommodation” then go to the Consulate and hope they could process my visa in one day.
After many harassing emails to Fatimas (their server was down apparently), I got my “proof of accommodation” Sunday evening!
Monday morning I went straight to the consulate. The woman there was much kinder than the first time I’d gone. She said I could pick up my visa between 2:30 and 3:30 pm, but I had to deposit 750 Rands, approximately $50 to the consulate’s account at a First National Bank.
I called an uber ride from the consulate and told the driver I needed to go to the mall near where I was staying. I asked if there was an FNB bank there. He said no. He also told me I would need my passport to make a deposit…which I’d left with the Consulate. Since I have a second passport, I decided to have him take me straight home and I’d leave early to pick up the visa, stopping at the bank on the way.
I shouldn’t have listened to him.
Around 1 I made my way to an FNB in the neighborhood.
Their system was down, but “maybe I could deposit in an ATM” they said!
The ATM ate my money and processed nothing.
Time was ticking away.
A teller went to get someone to get my money back from the ATM. During this time, the line at the bank expanded to 30 angry people. Most things weren’t working and I was on the verge of a panic attack. I was so close!!
I’d used the last of my cash for the deposit so I’d need to withdraw more for my uber ride, but the line was out the door. So while I waited for the teller to return with my eaten money, I tried to change my Uber settings to use a credit card so I could race across town the second the deposit went through.
But Uber wouldn’t take either of my credit cards. It was confused with the zip code versus the country I was in. Nothing I tried would take.
My throat was getting tight. I was SO close to getting this damn headache of a visa!
2pm.
The teller returned with my money and brought me to an ATM to try again. The manager of the bank asked the group in line if I could go first since I was in the middle of a hassle and a very angry man yelled “Hell No!”
So I got in line as my stress level mounted.
Eventually the deposit went through and I was on my way out the door towards the other side of town to get my visa!
I tried to call an Uber but it didn’t work.
“Verify your credit card” It said.
“Use Cash as Payment” I pressed.
“Verify your credit card” it insisted.
It would not let me order a car.
Time was passing and I was stuck. Panic revved up inside me. No! I’d made it this far. I was going to Mozambique that night! I was going to get my damn visa!
I screamed at my phone each time Uber refused. I needed an alternative. I asked people nearby where I could find a cab.
No one knew.
A girl saw me in my fit and came over as I slumped in the shade next to a different bank to try and think. She offered to find me a cab with a different app.
A well-dressed man came up to us and said “Hi girls, I work for the Ghanaian Embassy and I was robbed here last week. You need to put your phones away.”
The kind girl said “Embassy? Is that near the Mozambique Consulate? This girl has an emergency and needs to get to the Mozambique consulate by 3:30.”
The man replied, “I think I know where that is. My driver will take her.”
I looked up in disbelief.
He guided me to his car and told his driver where to go and to collect him at the bank in a hour.
What?!
I got in.
The driver was excited to see me. He was from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. After asking me what I was doing, he promptly asked if I would marry him. I told him I was already engaged.
He then asked how I felt about Donald Trump. I told him he was a terrible con man causing a plethora of trouble. The driver said “No honey, I do not believe you. He is not that bad. You are being narrow-minded, you must forgive him!”
I told him he didn’t understand. Trump was cutting every program I believed was progressive blah blah blah all of my thoughts…
Driver: “No, God doesn’t want you to hate Donald Trump. You must forgive him.”
I huffed and said never mind.
Then the driver asked “you do believe in God?”
I told him I was not religious.
This greatly offended the driver.
“Oh no dear! You see how you needed a ride to the Consulate!? You were desperate, but God brought me to you! You must appreciate what God does for you.”
I told him I greatly appreciated the circumstance and his God for helping me. This answer wasn’t enough. We spent the rest of the ride arguing about how he believed my life was nothing until I found God and I told him my life was full and wonderful in its own way even though it was different from his.
I was SO CLOSE to getting that visa! So. Close.
Finally we arrived at the consulate. I told him I didn’t have a phone number he could call when he asked, but I told him to thank his employer profusely for letting me use the car. He told me to thank God instead. I shut the door.
I collected my visa in the office right in the nick of time and I almost cried. Since Uber wasn’t working for me anymore, the woman called a cab for me.
That night I said good-bye to the pet dog and my cushy, relaxing life in Pretoria and hopped on a night bus where I promptly passed out.
By 4 am we’d reached the border but had to wait until it opened at 6 am to cross. It was the most hectic border I’d seen yet. Lines of minibuses packed to the brim with goods, people meandering, goats sifting through trash. There was a heavy mist blanketing the eerie yellow lights of the cars in line.
Finally I crossed the border’s mess. I probably could have gotten my visa AT the border because so much was going on and the bus would have never known, but oh well. I had it in advance and hopped on over to Mozambique with ease.
I’d made it to my last African country as the sun slowly rose in the heavy fog.
In Mozambique I have been tired. It’s the end of Africa for me and my body knows. I took a chappa from the hostel in the capital to a beach town up north called Tofo at 5am the next day. I spent two days relaxing in Tofo.
I didn’t do much. One night I skinny dipped with some Estonian guys I’d met as the full moon lit the surprisingly warm water. It was euphoric thrashing in the waves.
Tofo is a great place for scuba diving but I’m getting certified in a few weeks in Malaysia and I also have a new tattoo so I didn’t want to spend too much time in the water.
Mozambique looks like Madagascar. The palm trees, fields of corn (instead of rice), grass huts, stands selling tomatoes, women in colorful fabric carrying goods on their heads. There was a Peace Corps Youth Empowerment Camp taking place at the place where I was staying. It felt like home. But it wasn’t. It was a parallel universe to Madagascar. It all looked the same, but I was an alien. I don’t speak a word of Portuguese.
After two relaxing days in Tofo, I returned to Maputo and here I am, mentally preparing for the end of my time in Africa and my next adventure in Asia.
Whew. It’s been a long road. Almost 4 years abroad. I think this new phase will be reinvigorating! A change of scenery and huge cultural jump will be fun.
Thank you for all of the love, Africa, especially Madagascar. I wouldn’t be the women I am today without all of these crazy experiences.

season 7, episode 1
This season premiere, as is typical, mostly just served to lay some foundation for some drama.  Here’s our cast of characters as of right now:
Mursel and Anna, both 38
Anna is a Nebraskan beekeeper. She met Mursel, a Turkish beekeeper, on a beekeeping Facebook group. She’s obsessed with her bees, which is the most endearing thing about her. “I think bees are cute because they live together,” says Anna. She seems to be working through some of her own issues. She was in a bad relationship with her kids’ dad, she left a couple of years ago, and she decided, based on that experience and some chance online encounters, that all American guys are interested in one thing only, which is not bees. Enter Mursel. They show the two of them having a kindergarten-level conversation on video chat. We immediately see what a brick wall the language barrier is.
She has three boys, who are 15, 14, and 6, and she declares on national television that her accident baby six-year-old, Leo, is her favorite. See you in therapy, kids. This may explain her dynamic with her children and the way they speak to her. Some of that is the fact there are two teenagers, but she seems pretty lax. Anyway, she’s worried about how they’ll all get along. The consensus is that the kids are not sold on Mursel, for valid reasons such as language and religious differences – though her oldest kid, a walking teenager stereotype, “doesn’t care” about any of it. The boys make Muslim jokes about bacon over breakfast and Anna is either unamused or doesn’t get it. The IMPENDING BIG CONFLICT, presumably, is that he’s Muslim, doesn’t drink, and doesn’t want her to drink. She, on the other hand, is “from the Midwest,” which is as good a suggestion as any that she drinks a lot (take it from this Midwesterner). Mursel doesn’t actually know that she drinks, as she admits to a friend later in the episode, and he has expressed that he would like to be around whenever she is drinking.
Mursel shows up at the end of the episode. This is the only airport reunion we see this episode. They’re genuinely happy to see each other, but it quickly devolves into awkwardness due to the language barrier. It is Paul-and-Karine-level bad, down to the unreliable translator app. She hadn’t realized how difficult that would make things. Mursel has so far seemed likable but maybe trying to hard. We want to know about Mursel and his backstory.
Predicted Outcome:
Alyssa says they will not get married because of the language and cultural barriers, and it will be strangely heartwrenching.
Laura says they will get married, but will end in a messy divorce, for the aforementioned reasons plus the kids issue. Teenagers are brutal.
Michael, 42 and Juliana, 22
Michael is a “self-employed wine entrepreneur” (let us just shudder at the eye-rolling pretentiousness of this statement) and walking midlife crisis. He’s quick to tell us how rich he is and rattles off all the rich-guy stuff he does ($90k sports cars, travels a lot, vintage guitars). He met Juliana, a Brazilian “model,” on a yacht party in Croatia. She grew up poor, is uneducated, and is currently working as a prostitute was discovered by a modeling agency. He does not explain how she found herself on a Croatian yacht party. She’s funny and thoughtful and smart, he says, and they’re kindred spirits. We don’t see or hear from her this entire episode, so all of this remains to be seen. We think there is a question about his legitimacy as a "rich-guy," and how he *actually* met her. He admits he has spent a lot of money on her, but he won’t say how much. He is incredulous that she can’t get a work visa even with her “legitimate job,” so the K1 was the only option. Wondering if there is a different reason she can't get a visa, which may not be as nefarious as the show is pointing to (like Evelin overstaying her via one time. See how well she and Corey worked?). He divorced his wife Sarah two years ago, but they’re still good friends and co-parents, they live down the road from one another, and he worries how Juliana will feel about all of that. He married Sarah when they were both young, and they grew apart. This feels mostly like a justification of his current relationship. I find myself wondering what Sarah’s side of that story sounds like. And I am wondering why he feels it is a good idea to marry someone incredibly young in comparison when he apparently understands growth occurs.
We see him with his two kids. His son is 8 and his daughter is probably 5 or 6. They are adorable and impossibly articulate. “It’s sort of an unusual circumstance,” says his daughter, about Juliana. Juliana’s visa interview is next week and Michael wants to check in with them. They’re extremely diplomatic about the whole thing, though his son can’t help but point out that “she’s closer in age to me than she is to you.”
We see Michael and Sarah having a heart to heart about the situation, and Sarah acknowledges, as gently as she can, that his money is probably playing a role in her interest in him. She’s also very diplomatic, and it becomes clear how the kids turned out so well. Michael isn’t offended by her suggestion but is confident that Juliana in it for the right reasons, or whatever. Sarah’s worried about the parenting situation and the role Juliana expects she will play in the kids’ lives.
Predicted Outcome:
Alyssa says they will get married, but it won't last because of the age difference and Michael's personality.
Laura says they will get married and she’ll stick around as long as the money’s coming in.
Synjin, 32 and Tania, 29
Tania is a social activist and bartender from Connecticut who “self-identifies as Latina.” We see her generically yelling about change and democracy. She is a self-proclaimed wild woman because she takes natural supplements and plays with sex toys. She’s objectively insufferable. We are open-minded, but there is something about her that feels like she is desperately trying to prove something.
She met a South African guy on a dating app, flew to South Africa soon after, and it didn’t go well, so she left his house in the middle of the night to go to a bar (don’t you know about HUMAN TRAFFICKING, mah boy?) where she met a cute bartender, Syngin, and then went home with him instead. She ended up staying in South Africa with Syngin for two months, because change and democracy can wait. Syngin is apparently a recovering racist and “loves nature and Mother Earth,” she says. She went back to the US, applied for his K1, and then moved into the shed in her mom’s backyard, where she and Syngin both plan to live when he arrives. Her mom, who is delightful, isn’t thrilled and thinks Syngin lacks ambition. Tania wants kids but Syngin is “freaked out” by them, and that always ends well.  We see Tania in a New York hotel spending an inordinate amount of time getting ready to go pick up Syngin at the airport, followed by a similar amount of time prattling on to her two friends about how amazing she looks.  Why she is bringing friends to this event is unclear, because this is not prom with the cute guy in math class  Also would like to know if Syngin is aware she is bringing others to the airport. She starts to panic in the cab because his plane has already landed and she cannot believe she is so late.
Predicted Outcome:
Alyssa says that they won't get married because it will be continuously trying to prove something to each other. Living in Mom Tania's shed is already a bad decision.
Laura says they won’t get married because I don’t know him yet, but she’s terrible and probably incapable of
Emily, 29 and Sasha, 32
Emily, a reformed party girl from Portland, graduated from college and decided to move to the “wonderland” that is Russia to teach English. She was unpleasantly surprised to find that her wildly uninformed perceptions about Russia were not correct. She had no friends, couldn’t speak Russian, and the city was dirty and cold. Desperate to meet people, she decided to join a gym, where she met personal trainer Sasha, who had never met an American before. “He had good vibes, I guess,” she says, as all great love stories go. She taught him English, she claims. If that’s true, I now believe in her teaching abilities, because his English is legitimately excellent. He proposed in an elevator without a ring. She is also wife #3, and she’s due in four days to have a baby. He’s got two other kids, one with each wife. Not a good look, he realizes, but “I’m a good guy,” which is reminiscent of Paul discussing his arson. Emily is ready with her own arguments. “He happened to marry his mistakes,” she says. As women who have been in relationships and have broken up with people, this seems like a very risky statement to make.  Anyway, she’s having the baby in Russia, so that Sasha can be there. We see Emily talking to her sister, who says a lot of mean things about Emily’s size and her life choices, namely her decision to have the baby in Russia. Emily conveniently gets dizzy and hangs up, while immediately calling Sasha to pick her up. It looks like there may be an interaction with one of Sasha's ex-wives in the next episode, so we may have different opinions on them next week.
Predicted Outcome:
Alyssa says they are obviously going to be connected because of their baby, but probably will not work out either. Sasha living two children behind seems very sad.
Laura agrees. Too much baggage. It’s all going to come to a head somehow.
Anny, 30 and Robert, 41
Robert lives in Florida but is from Brooklyn, and it shows. He’s an Uber driver, and you’d think he was a surgeon, the way he talks about his job. He name-drops all the celebrities who have been in his car. I somehow doubt Shaq is in the habit of getting in random Ubers. He has a hyperactive son, Bryson, who is maybe 2.
He met Anny online. She lives in the Dominican Republic. He booked a cruise that stopped in the DR for one day, he proposed after 8 hours together, and he hasn’t seen her in person since. He's very defensive about his life choices. Anny is moving to Florida this week. He keeps referring to her as “shorty,” which I did not think was a thing anymore. Bryson is acting out during the video chat, and he worries whether she’s ready to be a parent to him. Anny also seems worried about being a parent, too, and there are questions raised.
Money is an issue. It clearly motivates her, but he obviously doesn’t have much. We see them having a very unproductive argument over the phone about money – he sent her some, she wasn’t able to access it, and they both yelled at each other about it. All of this occurs while he is at a store trying to buy her some lingerie. This lingerie-buying outing is set to some derpy music, so you know we’re in for it. The saleslady asks him what her size is. I don’t know, he says, but I know she has a big butt and nice curves. The poor saleslady soldiers on through his lusting, but also doesn’t miss the opportunity to say to the camera, in a masterful use of her allotted 30 seconds, that she likes when men think about what their women will like, not what they themselves like. Also, this seems like something intimate to do when only spending 8 hours with her but this isn't about Caesar and chocolate panties.
Predicted Outcome
Alyssa says they will probably get married but we don't know much about Anny right now.
Laura is withholding judgment until we meet Anny, but is not optimistic about them getting married right now.
FIN. Next week we’ll meet one more couple, and we see the return of Angela, who we’ll hesitate to even write about because she’s so terrible in so many ways. Our eggs are already shaking at thought of her toting anything.

Uber rival Bolt returns to London 21 months after a TfL investigation shut it down
Bolt, the Uber rival formerly known as Taxify, is taking a significant step this week in its effort to build out its transportation-on-demand business across the biggest cities in Europe and Africa, which currently covers 25 million users in 30 countries and 100 cities: it’s finally opening for business again in London, the biggest ride-hailing market in Europe.
“Finally” and “again” are the operative words here: the Tallinn-based company had launched in London as far back as September 2017 — nearly two years ago — only to shut down its services after three days, when Transport for London, the city’s transportation regulator, started to investigate the terms of its license.
It turned out that not all was right in the state of Estonia . To roll out its services more quickly, Taxify (as it was then known) had acquired a London firm with a license valid until 2019 and had launched its own service using that loophole. At a time when TfL was decidedly unhappy with Uber and was already fielding complaints from politicians, a drivers’ association and union reps over Taxify’s launch, the writing was on the wall and Taxify shut down its service.
Slow and steady wins the race
Bolt’s run-in, and eventual cooperation, with TfL underscores the shift we have seen in the transportation market over the last few years in London, which has changed from a hacker mentality of “move fast, break things” to “slow and steady wins the race.”
“So far, there has been a monopoly, which leads to the same problems of higher prices and poor service,” Bolt’s CEO and founder Markus Villig said in an interview this week. “We are here first to fix that, but it will take two to three years to do so.”
Launching with a car-only service in London (it has other transportation products, such as scooters, in other cities like Paris), Bolt is — even before adding in that three year fix-it plan — nevertheless coming to the market relatively late.
Uber has been active for years and is just one of a number of incumbent private car-based ride providers, which include other on-demand transportation services like MyTaxi (owned by Bolt’s investor Daimler) and Gett, other fleet-based providers like Addison Lee, a plethora of local mini-cab firms and, of course, independent Black Cab drivers.
But with late arrival also comes a more knowledgeable approach built on the experience (vast operating costs) shouldered by others.
First and foremost, Villig said the new and improved Bolt will be hoping to woo away both drivers and passengers with competitive discounts based, it seems, mainly on undercutting dominant providers.
On the driver side, Bolt will change a 7.5% commission for the first two months before switching to a 15% commission, which it claims is up to half of what other firms charge, and works out on average to 10% more earnings than driving with competitors.
On the passenger side, Bolt will be launching with a 50% discount that will then default to regular rates that will still be between 5% and 10% cheaper than competitors’.
Price competition is not the only area where Bolt is making a modification. There is also a big change in the app’s safety features: specifically, it will launch with a “panic button” that will let both passengers and drivers alert bolt and police if they feel they are in danger, and also to alert Bolt’s trust and safety team to open a ticket and address the problem.
Villig said that this safety feature is not a default in every market where it operates. It is a variant of a feature that Bolt uses in, for example, its South African business “where safety is also an issue” and while it was not directly mandated by TfL, Villig noted that it pointedly asked about safety features and so this was included, along with other new features, such as sharing details of your ride with a contact.
Safety will also extend to increased vetting of drivers before they ever join the platform — again, to a level higher than in some other markets that have not had track records of safety incidents.
Better service comes at a price
With the drivers getting better commissions and passengers getting lower prices, Villig said that Bolt itself would be absorbing the cost of offering everything.
“The operational costs are higher than in other cities, but the opportunities are so large and there is such a need for an alternative, that it made sense.”
That will, inevitably, mean more funding. Although it has already raised around $185 million — with $176 million of that coming last year in a round led by Daimler that valued Bolt at $1 billion — that will run down fast through launches and the extra operational costs associated with them.
(Uber and Lyft’s books, now open to the world post their public listings, detail the hundreds of millions of dollars that ridesharing efforts can potentially cost companies before they can hope to turn a profit.)
Indeed, we confirmed in May that Bolt was indeed raising another round at a valuation of over $1 billion. This week, Villig said that it has “nothing to announce” on that front just yet. In addition to Daimler, the company is backed by Didi (the Chinese ride-hailing giant) and, ironically, Uber, by virtue of its Didi divestment deal in China,
While expanding beyond motor vehicles might be putting the cart before the horse, so to speak, Bolt does have plans to stay for the long run and use its positioning to become one of two market leaders. That will also eventually take Bolt to other modes of transportation beyond cars, but using a light-touch approach.
“All we want on micro-mobility is to be a platform,” Villig said. “W don’t want to own hundreds of thousands of bikes and other vehicles. The question is: how do we enable all that to appear.” He anticipates that Bolt will start to offer bikes — and other other transportation forms as regulators allow them — by next year.

I spent three nights and four days in Rome. However, two full days were spent figuring out transit and where I needed to be.
Tumblr media
The trip was overshadowed by my strenuous experience getting to the London Stansted airport, which is north of my flat. This tiny airport is located 36 minutes away by car and a little bit over an hour by public transit. As a recent graduate student, every penny counts thus public transit is the way to go!
I made it to the stop for the National Express bus and waited for at least 45 minutes. When I realized that the bus was 10 minutes late to pick up the passengers, I went over to security. Security informed me that the bus will be half an hour late. WHAT!!!? My flight was at 1:20pm and by this time it was 11:20am! I was so upset and started opening my uber app when a nice girl from Czech Republic suggested that we split a cab because security told her it would be cheaper than Uber.
The cab took another 20 minutes to show up and to our dismay, he only accepted cash. Mind you, I generally don’t carry cash with me and time was not on our side. The cab driver suggested for me to find an atm, but the girl had cash! She is my savior! We decided that when we arrive at the airport, I would then find an atm and pay her back the money.
By the time we reached the airport, it was 12:20pm. The girl went to search for an atm while I went to check-in because I had an American passport. I had my boarding pass on the app and when I went to the counter to check-in, I couldn’t... apparently, for RYANAIR airline, non-eu citizens are required to print out their boarding pass. I had to pay £15 to print out my boarding pass and £7 for a fast-pass through security. I paid almost $30 USD!
IT IS NOW ALMOST 1PM!! I hastily went through security and was told I was only allowed a small ziplock bag for my liquids, meaning, I had to throw away all my liquid lipsticks, face moisturizer, and Vera Wang perfume, plus all of my shower products. HELLO, I JUST FINISHED GRADUATE SCHOOL! I AM TRYING TO SAVE EVERY PENNY BY NOT BUYING NEW PRODUCTS!
As I was getting rid of my things, this wave of emotions washed over me as I was reminded of the time during my undergrad where I was so excited to receive the opportunity to study abroad in Italy. I was prepared and paid for the ticket to go. The day of the flight, I arrived at check-in and the lady from American Airlines stated that I was an hour early when I should have been two hours early for an international flight. She then said I needed to call my travel agent and book another ticket.  I was an innocent first-time flyer who have never flown on my own before. And before I knew it, the voice in the intercom at the airport kept announcing my name.
I’m not sure why I didn’t have the strength to fight American Airlines. I was sitting and crying as I called Priceline. They quoted me for $2000, and I had already paid almost $2000 to go. I called my parents and they willingly told me to use their card and I said... no. I left the airport and went back to attend classes at OU, and continued to help my parents at their restaurant 3 hours away during the weekends.
Seven years later from that experience, I WAS NOT GOING TO MISS MY FLIGHT TO ROME! I finally left security and sprinted for 10 minutes to my 1:20 flight. Seriously, London Stansted is designed for visitors to shop and is made of mazes that lead to restaurants you have to run through to get to your gate. And I made it there... at 1:20!
Where is my savior!?? When I made it to the line, I bumped into the Czech Republic girl who had paid for my cab earlier. She couldn’t find an atm and left to check-in her flight. We exchanged information on Facebook and called it a day.
Finally, I landed in Rome at 4pm. I had to pay €5 for a bus from the airport to the Roma Termini. From there, I paid €1.50 for a 100 minute MetroCard to my Airbnb near the Rebibbia station. And to my luck, right when I got out of the train in Rebibbia, MY PHONE DIES!
I tried memorizing the address and how to get there but ended up lost. I met a lady who only spoke Italian and she pointed me to a large grocery store. I went inside to ask if I could charge my phone for a few minutes, and the manager, in Italian, said she would only charge my phone if I purchased an item...
At 8pm, I bought a frozen pizza and a kinder bar. Waited 10 minutes for my phone to charge and left to find my Airbnb. I walked to the street and asked the locals where this building was, and NO ONE could point me in the right direction. By 9pm, an elderly woman from London who had been living in Italy for 30 years, used her phone to call the owners of the Airbnb to find my building (I had called multiple times but no one would pick up, and I wrote a message). The elderly lady walked with me to the building and I finally made it.
DEAR LAWD GEEZUSSSSSSS!!! I spent 13 hours getting to my Airbnb. This was a record! THANK YOU IF YOU’RE READING THIS LONG-ASS BLOG POST!
My sister, who is stationed in Naples, met me the next day. We spent most of our time walking around the Colosseum and following the travel guide from Google. This helped immensely as the guide provided a map of things to see if you only have 24 hours. I had delicious pasta and wine.
Tumblr media
For nighttime activities, we went out to Shari Vari Playhouse. When we were there, one of the employees actually tried to make us pay more for our two shots when we had previously paid less with another bartender! My sister and I were there for only an hour when we decided to go back home (Yes, we are boring).
The next day, we headed for Vatican City but the rain started to pour. We had lunch at a Chinese restaurant (Yes, we went to Italy for Asian food!) and took shelter at a cute cafe. By this time, my sister had to leave to catch her train back to Naples. I stayed behind and made it inside St. Peter’s Basilica, the most beautiful church I’ve seen thus far. It was huge and full of tourists.
Tumblr media
I had dinner nearby and left for my Airbnb. My flight was the next day, and better believe, transit was a struggle. The bus from Roma Termini to the airport was late so I befriended a nice South African couple where we ended up splitting a cab.
This couple, the cutest couple ever, had so much love between them. The boyfriend adored her and left his home in South Africa to follow his girlfriend in London as she finishes her degree. He worked in finance and was able to transfer jobs easily. They were so kind and this made the end of my Rome trip much smoother.
Tumblr media
And fate played a major role again when we boarded for our seats, this lovely couple had the seats next to me! I never got their names, but if you both are out there, you’re #relationshipgoals!
Tumblr media
Overall, I adored Rome, but I personally wouldn’t want to go back. The locals hate the tourists, understandable, but not a good position for the tourist. The transit was a headache and I spent most of my time frustrated. The best part was spending time with the sis and making her my obligatory instagram photographer (haha).
And below is an image of us Facetiming with our baby sis, Nico, who lives vicariously through us back in the states. <3

13 Top Mom Bloggers Share Expert Tips For Family Travel
Having children doesn’t have to slow you down on vacation! Whether you’re an adventure enthusiast, road trip-lover, or relaxation seeker, you can do it all—even with kids in tow.
Expert Tips For Family Travel
We asked top mom bloggers from around the world to share their tips and tricks for traveling with kids—along with their favorite family vacation destinations—to help inspire your next trip. From where to go and when to start planning to what you absolutely can’t forget to pack, these moms are experts when it comes to family travel. Heed their advice, and make this the year you finally plan a vacation that pleases everyone.
While you might not be able to control the number of meltdowns or bathroom breaks needed while you’re away, you can control where your family stays each night. Opt for a vacation rental and ensure that your family has the perfect place to stay during your trip. Enjoy amenities that come with renting an entire home, like extra room, outside space for energetic little ones, enough proper beds for everyone, a fully-stocked kitchen, and in-home laundry. All you need to do is set your budget, choose your rental, and go!
Fun Money Mom | Florida
Favorite family vacation destination: Living in Florida, our favorite family vacation destination is Walt Disney World. It’s an easy drive and no matter how many times we go, we have a different experience each time.
Top tip: Planning ahead is so important! I try to find the least popular times to visit destinations and, if possible, that’s when we go. I also search the internet for deals before we leave. There are sites online with discounted tickets to popular events like Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. If it’s a beach vacation, I look for places where kids eat free or two-for-one deals on attractions like mini-golf.
Don’t forget to pack: I’d be completely lost if I forgot my camera. After all, part of the fun of a great family vacation is reminiscing over the photos when you get back home.
  Harrassed Mom | South Africa
Favorite family vacation destination: The Western Cape has come to be one of my favorite places. Last year we stayed in Botrivier and it was such a stunning spot! Kid-friendly, close to the beach, and the weather was perfect. The beach is a great destination because it is “free” fun for the kids.
Top tip: Space! Your accommodation needs to have space for the kids to run. And preferably a restaurant/shop nearby.
Don’t forget to pack: WETWIPES! And water for everyone.
Kreativemommy | Florida and India
Favorite family vacation destination: Our first family-fun trip was to Disney World in Florida with our eldest child when she was just four years old. I would love to take my younger one there too, as Disney World is truly magical. Not only did our daughter love it, but my husband and I did too. More recently, our favorite family destination is Goa, India. Goa is famous for its beautiful beaches, yummy seafood, flea markets, and water sports. It was a memorable trip and we are looking forward to going back soon.
Top tip: Traveling with kids means a lot of pre-planning and a lot of things to be carried along on a trip. The most important tip for other moms traveling with kids is to book everything in advance. It’s always better to book the accommodation, cabs, or anything else you will need a reservation for before your arrival. It saves time, and you don’t want any kind of hassle when you are traveling with kids.
Don’t forget to pack: There are many things that I make sure to pack on a family trip, but the three that top the list are: books (very helpful on long drives with kids), food (cookies, cakes, fruits, or anything that the kids can easily eat while traveling), and medicines (better to be prepared than running around on a vacation).
One more thing you can’t forget to pack: a camera. Traveling with family is all about creating memories to be treasured.
Lady and the Blog | Spain
Favorite family vacation destination: We recently returned from Spain and had the most wonderful time. Between the hustle and bustle of Madrid, the beauty and design of San Sebastiàn and then the relaxing beachfront escape that El Vendrell provided, the trip offered the best of all worlds! I have to say, as someone who has been to dozens of countries all around the world, Spain was my favorite yet!
Top tip: I think it’s important to remember that there needs to be a third of your day that is scheduled specifically for downtime. Your children can only do so much. Keep your accommodation centrally located for sightseeing and dining and easily accessible for afternoon naps.
Don’t forget to pack: Some people may not appreciate this one, but chargers! My family needs our electronics. While in Spain, we took two 6-hour train rides and they were both managed all thanks to game apps and downloaded movies. Thank goodness for battery packs and plugs!
Merlot Mommy | Florida
Favorite family vacation destination: We’re big Disney fanatics in our house. I went to Walt Disney World with my parents and grandparents for the first time when I was 6 years old. Those memories have lasted my whole life, and we’ve been helping to create lasting memories with our family since our kids were little, too. WDW is our favorite family vacation destination because of that. Our kids love the magic of the Mouse.
Top tip: We love traveling in the shoulder season—fewer people, often better rates. We look for dates that work for us, and it’s always a more pleasant trip. Our kids help with the planning so it’s a team effort and everyone helps to make some of the planning decisions.
Don’t forget to pack: Water bottles and sunscreen—two musts for a hot, sunny day at a theme park!
Mommy Scene | Oregon Coast
Favorite family vacation destination: We love exploring the Oregon Coast when traveling with kids because we can keep going back and always see something new! Our favorite Oregon destinations are the seaside boardwalks that are perfect for family hikes, Newport Aquarium, and visiting old landmark lighthouses.
Top tip: We have three small children, and it’s important for us to plan flexible activities for each day. We generally research an area using a service such as TripAdvisor and we choose several destination options. I love when a travel resource also includes reviews of each attraction in an area! We also enjoy staying at a vacation rental rather than a hotel because vacation rental houses often include multiple rooms and more amenities (such as a kitchen or hot tub right outside the door) for a young family of five. Our experience at a vacation rental is often unique each time, allowing us to build fun memories with our kids on our family vacation.
Don’t forget to pack: We can’t forget to pack the double stroller! A reliable compact stroller is a must-have for traveling with kids through a new city. But make sure it easily folds up to fit in the trunk of any rental car.
Mommy’s Memorandum | South Dakota
Favorite family vacation destination: Ask my family and hands down we will all say South Dakota. It was a family vacation that made us curious, allowed us relaxation, and kept us going out for more. We toured Mount Rushmore and Bear Country and everything in between. It is wide open land with scenic views and a pace that allows for relaxation.
Top tip: We’re always looking for someplace new. Our first question is “where have we never been?” and then we start searching for things to do and places to stay in that location. We’ve planned destinations based on books we’ve read, movies seen (Oak Island for Nicholas Sparks fans), and also places we’ve read about on the internet or in books. We keep a running list, and as our life takes us down different roads, we check in with our list.
Don’t forget to pack: Our one thing is a day pack. We each have one loaded with high protein snacks, extra water, a walkie talkie (in case we get separated), and bandannas. It makes spontaneous travel easy…sometimes we just pull off to the side of the road, grab the day pack and see where the trail takes us. Other times, we follow a tour guide. We’re always ready with our day pack. As soon as we come in at night, we restock any items used.
Rockin Mama | Maui
Favorite family vacation destination: Our favorite family destination is Maui. The island offers some of the most beautiful scenery in the world and begs to be discovered and explored. As a family, we have the option of simply relaxing by the beach or making the trek up the mountain to see the sunrise at Haleakala. Whether you crave adventure or want to unplug, the island offers a myriad of activities, water sports, and more.
Top tip: My best tip for selecting a destination is to plan ahead with sufficient time. Not only will this ensure the best prices, you have the most options when it comes to selecting accommodations and activities you desire, particularly during high season.
Don’t forget to pack: The one thing we can’t forget to pack is a camera to document all of our incredible memories together as a family.
Role Mommy | Jamaica
Favorite family vacation destination: My all-time favorite family destination is Treasure Beach, Jamaica. We fell in love with it when we visited for the first time six years ago and discovered the adventurous way to travel with your family through community tourism. Over the course of one week, we went out with our boat captain Dennis Abrahams (who happens to earn a #1 rating as the most popular activity tour to take in Treasure Beach). Captain Dennis took us to Pelican Bar (a bar in the middle of the ocean), cooked us a jerk lobster beach lunch on a private island, and navigated our way through Black River where we observed wildlife and crocodiles and swung off tree vines to cool off on a hot summer day. On another trip, we even stopped to meet a farmer who gave us watermelons before ending our journey at the beach with a lobster dinner under the stars. I could go on and on, but if you have older kids and are in for adventure, fun and great food, then Treasure Beach is the place for you!
Top tip: Absolutely check out reviews that real people have written about the places you’re visiting. I have to say, even though we have been to Treasure Beach a few times, when we wanted to try new places to eat or visit, I definitely checked out TripAdvisor to see what places people raved about and which restaurants or cafes they loved. And of course, I loved the fact that Captain Dennis has the #1 tour in Treasure Beach—I know firsthand he’s earned the recognition!
Don’t forget to pack: One thing I have found to be a huge resource now is to make sure we get International data and calling when we are out of the country. That helps when searching for things to do or navigating your way to a destination if you’re on your own. In terms of packing, sunscreen and bug spray are always high on our list!
The Mommyhood Chronicles | Hawaii
Favorite family vacation destination: Hawaii is a great family vacation because of the vast amount of kids activities in one of the most gorgeous places in the world. We love the various fresh foods and the different family trips you can take there. I highly recommend Kauai and Maui for great family fun. Don’t forget to try the pineapple and shaved ice!
Top tip: You have to make sure everyone in your family can enjoy the trip. We have kids at various ages and if one kid is not occupied, it can get boring quickly and end up being a bad vacation. We also try to make sure there are family-friendly activities at the various places we visit.
Don’t forget to pack: Sunscreen and medicines.
The Multitasking Mom
Favorite family vacation destination: Our family loves to take road trips where we spend a few days at accommodations with some fun local sites nearby. We like to stay in places that have nearby activities and preferably a pool, so we can choose how active we want to be and just enjoy each other’s company. We also might take one or two days to see local sights. Especially with young kids, we like to have a plan, but not be over-planned.
Top tip: I’d put together a list of must-dos and nice-to-dos. Include any time restrictions, like if a museum you want to see is closed on certain days. Fill in the must-dos on your schedule. Then keep your list of nice-to-dos with you so if you feel like you need another activity, you have a whole list already compiled.
Don’t forget to pack: Since we love road trips, we can’t forget car activities. No one wants hours of driving with a cranky toddler.
The Taylor House | Colorado
Favorite family vacation destination: Our favorite family vacation destination has to be Colorado! We love the mountains and all of the outdoor adventures that await us there. We’re huge outdoor people so we love to hike, fish, swim, and everything that goes along with a Colorado adventure vacation!
Top tip: I think about what it is we want to do—is it hiking, riding rides at a theme park, lying on the beach? Then I narrow it down from there. I try to pick a location that we’ve never been to before, because we like to see new things and discover new places. Consider the busy times of year too, and avoid those when you’re planning.
Don’t forget to pack: My camera!!!! Photos are so important to me, I want to be able to look back at them and remember that amazing time my family had!
