location: baldur’s gate
hané didn’t actually mind baldur’s gate, all things considered. she missed her master more than anything in the world, but baldur’s gate was stunning, it was her speed. she had gotten in the habit of going to the market every morning, picking up things for her and her roommate. she hadn’t expected to see her friend here too.
“jace?” hané called, but she could sense it was him before she had even really stopped to check. she dropped her basket and ran into a hug to greet the other. “i’m so glad you’re okay! what have you been doing?!” she asked excitedly, looking up at him, bright-eyed.

“oh yes, so unbecoming.” she said, overdramatizing a deep, serious voice, mocking some sort of lord that might have chided him when he was a boy. she honestly thought jace could do with a little praise now and again, but that was besides the point. “town it is. i like baldur’s gate so far, but i haven’t seen much of it either.” she shrugged, happy to find new things with her friend.
“so, are you finding that you like a little break from being a prince and expected king since being here?” she asked curiously. she knew jace would never abandon his birthright as king, he had too strong of a sense of duty. still…hané knew how freeing it could be to just be oneself. “you know i always love you, prince or not, but you just seem more…jace-y.”
laughter bubbles in his throat at her words. jacaerys targaryen. he's still not used to being referred to as such but he delights in it nonetheless. it sounds so right spoken out loud — his true name by technicality now that he's the heir apparent to the throne. velaryon or strong. what does it matter? when there's no denying the targaryen blood in his veins. “a reflection of your virtues on me, i'm sure,” jace teases right back, shying away from hané's praise. “much as you make it a challenge not to let it go to my head. i fear your praise will soon make me insufferable, and i'm told it's rather unbecoming of a future king to preen,” he continues, chuckling as she shoves him before playfully clipping her shoulder with his own in response. “well, since we're already here, let us explore the town. i find i'm eager to see all it has to offer. i've never really had the chance to walk the streets so freely back home.” such is the burden of a prince's title, after all. part of him is thankful for his anonymity here, and more so for the comfort of his friend's company in this unfamiliar new world.

“i would love nothing more.” she grinned giddily, practically skipping to his side and linking arms. she grabbed her basket and stepped in time with her companion. “i’ll be honest, i’ve only been around town, mainly this market. it’s so lovely and there’s always something new to see. but, with jaceryes targaryen, future king of westeros and a most believed comrade by my side, i feel much safer…and eager to explore.” she teased, giving him a playful shove. “what should we explore first? the town? the countryside? anywhere in particular?” she asked, happy to do whatever as long as they were together.
besides the whole ordeal of forced world hopping, jace doesn't entirely mind baldur's gate. in fact, he feels more at home here than he did back in ivy cove. it's something more familiar to him, at least, and without the dread of looming war that plagued the streets of king's landing in all the years that he'd known it. though it frustrates him that he's once again separated from his loved ones, he's sure he'll find them again just as he did in ivy cove.
as if the universe happened to read his mind, he hears a familiar voice that fills his chest with a flutter of excitement. “hané!” a wide grin finds jace's lips at the sight of his friend. “you have no idea how glad i am to see you.” he chuckles as he pulls into her hug. “i was just exploring the city, trying to familiarize myself with it all. perhaps you'd like to join me? there's so much i have yet to see.”
