lottie considered the question, and for once she didn't have scores of questionable decisions to fall back on. honestly, despite her lengthy list of past indiscretions, she hadn't slept with a single person she hated because she had a rule against such things ( one of many ): don't sleep with people you feel anything for. it'd been a long time since she was a dorky honors student with color-coded notes and a meticulous daily planner, but, despite all appearances to the contrary, she couldn't stop herself from being systematic about every little thing in her life. who knew there could be so much thought behind something so messy? but some things never changed, and evidently being a paradox and a half was one of them.

anyway, rule #1 was that apathy and anonymity were the fundamental keys to a good, clean hookup. the line between hate and love was far too thin for her comfort, but nadya probably didn't have the same commitment hangups she did. "i think it's fine to sleep with whomever the hell you want," lottie reached for her coffee, completely lukewarm at this point, and shrugged her shoulders, "but if you don't want anything complicated, hate-sex isn't the move."

Nadya listened intently to Lottie, her eyes gleaming with amusement as her friend adopted the role of a casual sex Yoda. As Lottie held out her hand with only three fingers pointed forward, Nadya couldn’t help but chuckle. “Alright, Yoda, enlighten me,” she said playfully. As Lottie explained that there was a science to everything, she nodded along, agreeing to her best friend’s words. While the other was okay with sleeping around, Nadya on the other hand knew the importance of feeling connected with the guy she was sharing a bed with. What was the point in sleeping with him, if they shared nothing in common.

The mention of attraction piqued Nadya’s interest, and she pondered over Lottie’s words. Griffin was definitely attractive. Down right hot would be more of an appropriate word to describe him, but the thought of being with someone she despised was an entirely different matter. “So,” she began, dragging out the word, “you’re saying it’s fine to sleep with someone you hate if you find them attractive?” She hummed, “I guess that’s one way to look at it.” She chuckled at her friend’s retort, “You’re right,” she agreed, “sex definitely didn’t require talking. The question is, can I actually sleep with a guy I don’t want to talk to.”

I was thinking about this and I must preface with this doesn't have to happen, but it was a thought - as Nikolai or Nadya would become Bell; I started thinking about the Trabzon airfield mission in the campaign, how Adler found his Bell there. Now, in the canon story for Jodie, that's where Arash tries to assassinate her for her betrayal of the faction, ordered by Perseus himself, but she lives and Adler and the team find her there.

BUT WHAT IF, both she and Nik were in that car - yes, Nadežda's betrayal is still revealed and Arash assassinates her. Succeeds. Then also tries to off Nikolai because he is actual competition for Arash within the hierarchy of the faction.

So in a matter of ONE NIGHT, Annika loses not only her father (who becomes Bell), but Nadežda who probably would have been one of the only people who could have soothed her in the face of her father going missing, both because of the woman's betrayal (I can't imagine Annika taking that well AT ALL) and because of, well, Arash having good aim.

I am sorry, (no I'm not) for this awful what if; it sucks. Catch me crying here-

After losing the two people she looked up to, Annika would honestly find their disappearances suspicious. She heard chatter about Nadya’s betrayal, and knew Arash had a personal vendetta against Nikolai. Annika thought the two of them dying with Arash on board wasn’t a coincidence.

At this point, girlie would have two options:

1) Let herself be taken into CIA custody and whistleblow on the entire Perseus organization.

2) Run.

You’d never be able to guess which one Annika chose.

Annika has no protection and she’s been a liability since Nik took her in. She knows this, which is why she plans on making like a tree ASAP. She thinks she's next, and unlike c! Annika who'd be like "Come and get me bitches I'd love to see you try.", this one hasn't experienced true fear or loneliness in years. Annika always had either Nik or Nad, but with them gone, she would be trying to claw her way out of the Perseus faction.

Annika isn't a hostile woman, revenge wouldn't be on her mind. Getting out safely without any holes in her chest would be her top priority.

We'd get to see bleached-hair Annika (but instead of it being because of her self-esteem issues, it'd be for her protection) and she'd try to take the first train out of the fucking country.

janie bit down on the plastic straw in her coffee instead of her tongue and hummed softly in the back of her throat, like nadya had just informed her it might rain later or the whatever team might make into the world series ( janie didn't know sports, but she knew how play this game ). "funny, you know, i know your—what did you call him, boyfriend?—pretty well, and i happen to know he's a little . . . finicky when it comes to labels. but that's super cute for you two; i'll have to congratulate him when he picks me up for my parents' charity gala." she paused and titled her head, forcing her glossy lips into a guileless, contemplative pout, "unless, he isn't aware that he's your boyfriend? that could be a pretty embarrassing misunderstanding."

Was this month shit on Nadya month or something? Because it was starting to feel that way. She didn’t think she had enemies, yet recently, the influx of haters kept climbing. The blonde before her becoming the top contender. Between Janie and Luciana, sometimes Nad felt like she was drowning. Still, it wasn’t like her to let anyone best her. Least of all, Arlo’s ex. She summed up the hatred to the bitter ending of their relationship. Of course, she was well aware her limbo like situation wasn’t any better, but hey, at least she wasn’t the one going around trying to ruin someone else’s day. There it was. I’m stuck in a tornado warning right now so I’m going to take the downtime to info dump about my horrible necromancer 😂

So he’s my pathfinder PC. He’s a necromancer Bone Oracle, although he doesn’t know what an oracle is. He has amnesia and doesn’t know where his powers come from. He just remembers he was in a cave on his way back to his homeland of Irrisen waiting out a winter storm, when he cut his hand on something set in the wall, heard a strange voice, and passed out. He woke up a year later in a grave surrounded by dead bandits in Taldor—a country on the opposite end of the continent from where he’d been before.

He was originally a pretty boy, a playboy, utterly selfish, only acting in his own self interest. When he woke up he found he’d lost his good looks—he looked sickly, his skin jaundiced. He also couldn’t be healed by healing magic, only negative energy as if he were undead, even though he didn’t detect as undead to any magical means.

So he had to rely on his silver tongue to get things done, and could only rely on himself to keep himself alive. He was still very much a selfish ass—and now he was suddenly a selfish ass with necromantic powers.

He travelled with a party of people—Nestian the shapeshifting bear, Aenland the elven archer, and Edeya the winter witch. They ended up entangled in saving Baba Yaga, who had gone missing, becoming her Black Riders after her previous Black Rider died in front of them. He discovered that the Black Rider somehow knew him, but for some reason couldn’t speak of it. The Black Rider made reference that he would be returning to the capital of Irrisen when they went there—it was a place that to his memory he’d never been, so clearly he’d gone there during his lost year.

The party, after walking through a winter portal into Irrisen, met a woman named Nadya whose daughter was kidnapped by the Winter Witches. Calio took offense to this because as a child he’d been kidnapped by a Winter Witch and used in some kind of ritual he doesn’t know the effects of, and he to this day doesn’t know how he survived the encounter. So he was eager to kill the ones behind the child kidnapping.

It turned out the ones behind it knew Calio—in fact, he’d been friends with one of them during his lost year. The other he suspects was a spurned lover.

Nazhena Vasillanova and Radosek Pavril. The party killed Radosek and saved Nadya’s daughter while Nazhena was out of town in the capital Whitethrone.

Then the party plus Nadya went to Whitethrone. On the way, Calio started worshipping the god of murder and secrets, Norgorber, with the promise he’d kill Nazhena in the god’s name.

In Whitethrone Calio met Greta, a winter wolf in human form and guard of the gate to Whitethrone. And this is where things started to change for Calio. Up until then Calio had thought only about himself, first, foremost, and exclusively.

Calio had volunteered to get the party into Whitethrone by disguising himself as a winter wolf in human guise (which rather than a regular human, they have pale skin, silver hair, pale blue eyes, and a specific scent) using a magical item they’d made on the way to town. Greta had taken an interest in him, believing he was a handsome and well travelled winter wolf, and agreed to let his group pass without the proper paperwork in exchange for a drink together at the local tavern. Calio immediately bit, having not had anyone show interest in him since he’d lost his memories and his looks. As they spent the day together, he found the two of them clicked immediately, in a way Calio never had with anyone before.

Later that evening, after meeting with a resistance group and agreeing to go to the opera to slip a debilitating poison into Nazhena’s drink there, he asked Greta to join him at the opera. They had a wonderful time (despite a close encounter with Nazhena, which is when Calio discovered that she’d known him in the past year), and afterwards they shared drinks at Greta’s favorite bar. There Greta told Calio that she was tired of life in this city, and she wanted the excitement that seemed to follow him (given all the illegal shit she’d seen him and his friends do in less than 24 hours). Calio hesitated—he hadn’t yet revealed to her that he wasn’t a winter wolf. He told her that he needed to talk to her about something tomorrow, and she could decide if she wanted to come with him after that.

He didn’t want to ruin the perfect night they’d had by telling her then.

So before going to slay a white dragon the next day, he did something far more terrifying than dragon slaying—he told Greta the truth. He laid his heart bear to her, telling her that he’d wanted to cling to the fantasy for as long as he could because no one had looked at him like she had since he’d lost his memories and his looks. She asked him to drop his disguise so she could see what he really looked like. So he did—never breaking eye contact, because he needed to see her reaction. She appraised him, expressionless, then said that she could hardly tell one Human apart from another but to her he seemed plenty handsome.

It was at that moment he fell in love with her.

Greta said, considering she’d be in a different form if she went with him, she’d be a hypocrite if she were upset with him for having another form. And he’d told her only a day after they’d started seeing each other. So it was fine. She still wanted to come with him—if he’d have her. Which of course he would.

From then on, he has been devoted to Greta. He risked his life and sanity in the Eon Pit getting magical gauntlets that would allow her to take human form anywhere she liked, rather than just in Whitethrone—which was normally the only place her kind could take a human guise. He’s sworn to himself not to lie to her or keep secrets from her—something that does not extend to anyone else. And after seeing how afraid she is of fire—the greatest weakness of winter wolves—he’s been trying to get ahold of a Ring of Fire Resistance to give to her.

His devotion to her has opened him up to being more thoughtful to others in the group as well. He considers Edeya his best friend, and is protective of her. He respects Nestian, and started wearing a distinct lapel to help him to recognize him despite his difficulty with faces. And while he had an extremely rocky start with Aenland, now that the elf finally apologized for being a bit of a prat initially, they’re getting along much better, and Calio watches the archer’s back in battle—and pays back any harm done to him in triplicate.

Calio has also gotten a dragonkin steed recently named Talsune. The two of them are linked mentally and emotionally—which was *extremely* weird for Calio at first. Hearing someone’s thoughts didn’t bother him, but feeling someone else’s emotions really felt weird to him and set him on edge initially. He’s a bit of a sociopath and thinks empathy is a made up thing people pretend to have, so *actually* feeling another being’s emotions is very jarring.

Despite getting better, he does have a bad influence in his life, too. He met the man who taught him necromancy—a nine-tailed kitsune named Kaisuke. Master Keisuke encourages all his worst traits. Get To Know Nadya

Hey, remember when I was doing these? Time to get to know the flying fish of Scarabia! Okay, so she's not a fish, but she moves as gracefully as a fish through water when she's dancing or doing gymnastics ...

What is Nadya's go-to drink order? Nadya likes green smoothies/juices that aren't too sweet. She also likes mint tea, hot or iced.

What is her grooming routine? It depends. On a normal day, she brushes and puts her up hair, washes her face, brushes her teeth, and is ready to go. If she wears any makeup, it's usually just some mascara and deep red-brown lipstick. On days where she's competing, she'll take more time doing her hair neatly, and put on a full face of makeup. Cameras are usually present, after all.

What was her most expensive purchase/where does her disposable income go? The most expensive things she owns are her athletic gear and her phone, but those were bought for her by her parents. Her disposable income that she doesn't use for food or school supplies goes towards cute accessories & jewelry, or paying for games/music on her phone.

Does she have any scars or tattoos? She has a scar on her left thigh from a bike accident when she was younger.

What was the last time she cried, and under what circumstances? Nadya doesn't cry often. It might have been during Book 4, when Jamil's overblot battle caused her to get badly injured. She cried less about the pain and more about what it would mean for her career. After some physical therapy and rest, she was able to get back in the game, but still. She panicked in the moment. (She also cries when she loses in tournaments, not because she's petulant or a bad sport, but because she tries so hard every time and it's just exhausting.)

Is she an oldest, middle, youngest or only child? Only child. She likes it that way. If her parents had any more children, she wouldn't be able to pursue gymnastics as hard as she does.

Describe the shoes she’s wearing. Red and white athletic sneakers with slouchy white socks.

Describe the place where she sleeps. Nadya's floor isn't very cluttered, because she needs space to do her warmups and stretches, but there is always clutter on her desk & nightstand. Her bed is usually rumpled and unmade, with lots of comfy pillows. She has a big stuffed dolphin on her bed too - one that's almost as tall as she is.

What is her favorite holiday? Halloween! She likes wearing costumes and giving people a little scare. She can do without the candy, though.

What objects does she always carry around with her? Nadya is attached firmly to her smartphone. She also makes sure to carry extra hair ties and a bottle of water at all times.
