Jamie’s eyes went wide as another allosaurus reared its head up over the mossy enclosure wall. “Shit shit shit-“ He scrambled back on his hands and feet and narrowly missed having his ankle snapped up in the dinosaurs jaws; bits and pieces of mangled limbs entrapped in its teeth. He clambered to his feet; ducking between two crisscrossed steel beams and up the fence; climbing fast while the heat of the wires burned against his palms. 

He flung himself over the top of the fence and landed on his back; knocking the air right out of his lungs with a painful wheeze. His shirt snagged on the twisted metal frame of the gate when he was up: in a blind panic he backed up to free himself. Something tore into his side halfway down his thigh, but running on adrenaline all he felt was the heat from the blood and none of the pain. He sprinted as fast as his legs would take him through the jungle; clambering over trunks and branches; splashing through creek puddles and high knees through the shallowest part of the river until he broke through the treeline of Trevor’s camp. 

His eyes were wild and intense; focused on locating the other man in the vast expanse of open field. The ground shook noticeably and Jamie turned right into a herd gallimimus rushing him; three allosaurus’ followed hot on their tails. “Fu-uck!” He yelled, turning to sprint down the grassy hills as his eyes locked onto the familiar face of Trevor. “Run!” He shouted, waving his arms to get the guys attention. “Run!” He screamed again; racing uphill towards him; his tone more desperate than ever. “Trevor, run!” He shouted with his name as the stampede overtook the empty space around them both, squawking loudly as they raced around the men. Jamie knew he was loosing speed; he was tired and hurt and he didn’t think he could keep up any longer; but the only other option was being trampled to death or torn in half while alive.

She was about to send a text to ask if he was busy but instead heard someone at her door. She walked over and opened the door to see no one other than Trevor standing there, she leaned against her door with a small smile and chuckled. "Are you lost?"

my CoG editor is amazing in a ton of ways but a few of those many ways is that a) she is incredibly gracious when I leave placeholder text in, b) she is very matter-of-fact about errors in my smut scenes (this one in Chapter 8 was probably the most graphic so far and she was just like "these two particular acts can be collapsed into one choice") c) she asks "is this intentional here?" rather than going "wtf" about some nonsense I've done by mistake d) she always reminds me to take some time over making sure a romance interest is extra angsty when the moment calls for it

Jamie’s dad was contracted out for medical science research for some sort of park expansion and for once he was the one chosen to tag along. Being a kid in a park full of every dinosaur one could imagine should’ve been a dream come true for any kid, but trouble came when he wound up in the pathway of an embryo transfer; and collided with one of the cooling machines. The impact sent him sprawling out on the cement with a scraped elbow and bumped head. His dad was a hard man who didn’t have time for questions, curiosity, faults or mistakes though, it didn’t matter if you were a kid, you should know better: that was John’s motto.

One guy tried defending Jamie insisting nothing had been damaged, but John brushed him off - angrily telling him that he’d discipline his kid without others input. It wasn’t hard for Jamie to sneak away from John’s less than watchful eye; he glanced back to the men arguing and cleaning up some glass then up at the large paddock enclosure fence.

He wriggled his way between the dead lines and dropped down on the other side to follow the muddy trail down through the trees. He traipsed through the shallow river creek unaware of the dangers surrounding him or the risks he put himself at the mercy of until he heard movement and a low hissing growl. When the bushes rustled he took off running through the tall grass blindly following the path into another camp. If his dad found out he’d left the park he was done for so Jamie did the only thing he could think of. He slipped into the big tent and looked around for places to hide amongst the crates and furniture inside of it. Hiding under the bed was too easy, but if he climbed the crates he’d break something and be in even more trouble. Panic sent Jamie crawling beneath the bed anyway when he heard a voice from just outside the tent.
