Jane was two thirds of the way down the ventilation shaft of the HYDRA base -- disguised as an office building, but with a bunker in the basement that held whatever this alien device was that Morgan Edge wanted so badly. She could hear him breathing in her earpiece, but so far he'd restricted himself to only the occasional comment. The occasional annoying comment, to be sure, but some men were like that. They spoke because they liked the sound of their own voices.
But that was beside the point, because she and Edge were allies right now, if only temporarily. Jane would retrieve this device for him -- and steal some of the mineral he'd alluded to, just as insurance -- and Edge in turn would help her track down and kill Colonel Kulikov, the Russian HYDRA head who had sent Jane to kill the Starks and who knew all of the Winter Soldier's control and shut down codes. And Edge had X-ray vision, apparently, which would be helpful when it came to Jane sneaking in and out without being detected.
If it had been only her, she would have blown the base sky high, but that would also mean blowing Edge's cover as a loyal member of HYDRA, which would make getting to Kulikov that much harder. So what the Hell, Jane would do it quietly. She could always come back to this base after she and Morgan Edge parted ways.
"I think I've got about fifty yards to go," she muttered, knowing the tiny but powerful earpiece would pick up her voice.

It was rather enjoyable, really, watching Barnes’ crusade from afar. To his superiors, of course, he was aghast, promising all the resources of his company to track down the rogue Winter Soldier. In reality, he’d sent a couple of people on a wild goose chase around DC.
He was more than ready to leave this entire operation behind him, so her eventual text was welcome. The coordinates were provided readily, along with a date and time – an abandoned warehouse owned by Edge EnerCorp, on the outskirts of the city. If anyone asked, he could say he was inspecting the property for future renovations.
After a few minutes of waiting, he could hear her approaching – she was quiet, and still a good distance away, but his sharp Kryptonian ears missed very little. He could pick out her heartbeat even from here. “Watching you work has been truly inspiring, Miss Barnes,” he said, not even looking at her. “You’ve made such a delightful mess of things.”
God, Morgan Edge really was a condescending asshole, wasn’t he? The way he talked to Jane -- like she was a kindergartner showing off a piece of finger-painting, or a particularly talented circus animal. Well, fuck him. Jane was confident in her skills, and she had nothing to prove to the likes of Morgan Edge.
Still, she wouldn’t have to put up with the son of a bitch for very long. They could carry out their respective missions and then go their separate ways. At least that would mean that HYDRA had lost two assets instead of only one.
“Nice to know that someone besides me has been enjoying the fruits of my labor,” Jane said dryly, scanning the surrounding area for cameras before stepping out of the shadows. “Now, are you gonna fill me in on this facility? I’ll need a lot more detail than you gave me last week if you want this to go smoothly.”

Don’t shoot, don’t shoot. I’m allergic to bullets.
I HAVE A THEORY! Sorry to the people seeing a random person popping up in the tag.
Jonathan wasn’t the Pre-Crisis Jon. Jordan was.
Circumstantial bits of evidence I have noted.
The Monitor scene where Baby Jon wouldn’t stop crying. Canon and Fanon say that Post-C Jonathan was easy going even as a child. Being past by both parents and Auntie to a third person to only calm down doesn’t sound right. (Unless baby Jon was a super fussy baby that calmed down when Jordan started throwing things in his meltdowns).
The hospital scene. Pre-C, Lois had to go to Argo and its artificial red sun so she wouldn’t get majorly hurt by the pregnancy. Post-C, normal hospital. No Krypton Red Sun Lamps. No Luthor help of depowering or neutralizing devices. A normal hospital, and a relatively normal pregnancy. Jordan developed his powers first, and he’s developing faster. Maybe the pregnancy alone for him was dangerous, but Jonathan came about as a buffer. It was safe.
Also the hospital scene, but Clark and Tal-Rho. Tal-Rho mentioned Jordan’s name first. My first thought was because Jordan was born first. Canon indicates that he likely did that because Jordan had powers, a ‘true’ Krypton in his eyes. What if he knew that Jordan was the true one, or he picked it up out of the original set of memories that Clark has?
Okay, that’s what I got. The rest is angsty ideas and not evidences.
#superman and lois#jonathan kent#theory#technically a film theory#oh dear god#i stopped watching matpat but he's still in my head#mainly i pulled a string and it unleashed more hurt on Jonathan and I thought yes

A szakemberek nyolc éven át tanulmányozták a térséget.
“Felfedezésünk azért izgalmas, mert egy lépéssel közelebb visz annak a nagy rejtélynek a megfejtéséhez, hogy miért érkeztek olyan távolról a Stonehenge kövei. Minden más európai neolitikus megalit olyan kövekből készült, amelyeket kevesebb mint 16 kilométerről szállítottak oda. Azt akarjuk megtudni, miért voltak olyan különlegesek ötezer éve a Preseli-hegység kövei, építettek-e ott ilyen kőből készült köröket még az előtt, hogy a kék köveket elszállították Stonehenge megépítéséhez” – idézte a UCL honlapja Mike Parker Pearsont, az egyetem régészeti tanszékének professzorát, a kutatócsoport vezetőjét.
A legnagyobb kőbányát mintegy 270 kilométerre találták Stonehenge-től a Preseli-hegység észak lejtőin Carn Geodognál.

O → SGA → SGR → SGA → SGR → SN
Ó bien:
O → SGA → SGR → SGAm → SN
Otros escenarios evolutivos sugeridos posteriormente son:
Para estrellas de más de ~75 masas solares:
O → WN(rica en hidrógeno) → VLA → WN(pobre en hidrógeno) → WC → SN Ic
Para estrellas de entre 40 y 75 masas solares:
O → VLA → WN(pobre en hidrógeno) → WC → SN Ic
Para estrellas de entre 25 y 40 masas solares:
O → VLA → WN(pobre en hidrógeno) → SN Ib
Ó bien:
O → SGR → WN(pobre en hidrógeno) → SN Ib
El escenario propuesto más recientemente (en 2012) es:
Para estrellas de entre 8 y 15 masas solares:
OB → SGR → SNIIp
Para estrellas de entre 15 y 20 masas solares:
OB → SGR → SGA → SNIIl

Accepting the folder, Jane began to study the collected documents as she listened to Edge. He'd done a decent job of gathering the kind of intel she would need; the floor plans were highly detailed, and the information on the security systems was in-depth enough to be useful.
"Sounds doable," she said. "Regarding the disguise, though -- is there anyone at this facility who's high enough up the ranks that they'd recognize me? Will I be able to get in under my own face, or will I need to load up on the spray tan and wear a good wig?" She'd donned disguises before for missions, but it was always best to know in advance whether that would be needed.
@murder-popsicle — moved from here for beta
"Rest assured, Miss Barnes, I've spent the past seven days gathering all the information I can." He pulled a file folder from his inside coat pocket and handed it over to her, so she could peruse through what he had -- some floorplans, a few patents for security systems. "There's a facility just outside of London. Outwardly, it's a private munitions supplier, but all the basement levels house some of HYDRA's most prized assets. I believe the Eradicator to be there, guarded by kryptonite safeguards as well as other nuisances.
"I should be able to smuggle you into the facility as an Edge EnerCorp employee, and buy you enough time to carry out the deed. The rest would be up to you."

aoete:
Tal blinked in surprise, unable to keep how impressed he was from his face. “Fascinating. They really did think of everything with you, didn’t they?” The power HYDRA could have with simply a few of these Soldiers… immeasurable.
A man slipped back into the room with a box, setting it down on the table and lifting the lid – inside were two long, ornate gloves for her to wear, covering her metallic arm. “I trust this is satisfactory.”
The Winter Soldier picked up the left glove and slid it over her prosthesis, trying it on for size. It fit well, and the fabric was thick enough that the seams of her arm’s plating didn’t show through. She nodded at Tal-Rho and said, “These will be sufficient.”
Taking the gown and gloves with her, she left for the prep room, where she would change and where someone would help her with her hair and makeup. While she was perfectly capable of putting on her own eyeliner or lipstick, she wasn’t aware of what was fashionable in the current day. Knowing that was the assisting agent’s job, a brisk, non-nonsense young woman named Clara.
When she returned, about twenty minutes later, she looked every inch the part for the role she would be playing tonight, apart from her expressionless face. The Winter Soldier wouldn’t turn on the charm until the mission began.
“What is your name for tonight?” she asked. “Will you be operating under Morgan Edge, or are they assigning you an alias? I’ve been told that I’m to be Jennifer tonight.”

Jane didn't know much about kryptonite or its radioactive properties, but even if she had, she wouldn't have been terribly concerned; Zola's serum had already proven to shield her from every other type of radiation she'd ever been exposed to, and she had no reason to think that kryptonite would be any different. Besides, she'd sourced an unobtrusive lead-lined pouch from the last HYDRA base she'd targeted, so she'd be able to carry away one of the crystals without exposing other people to its radiation.
Unlike Morgan Edge, Jane made a habit of considering the safety of the innocents she might encounter.
Entering the vault, Jane closed the door silently behind her and approached the plinth on which lay what was clearly the device she had come for. It was a dark, oblong thing, about the size and shape of a football, and housed in some sort of metal casing. She couldn't tell much more than that, though, because the whole thing was surrounded by a dome of green light -- the kryptonite-powered force field mentioned by Morgan Edge.
Luckily for her, though, the source of the force field was quite conspicuous, and with her metal hand, Jane was able to wrench the thing open and pluck out the green crystals that were powering it. The force field flickered and died, and she took care to tuck a single piece of kryptonite safely into her pouch. Just as insurance. Just in case Morgan Edge went back on his word.
Of course, with his x-ray vision he could probably see everything she was doing, so she wouldn't exactly have the advantage of surprise. But the presence of the crystal might at least act as a deterrent.
She could see the device clearly now. The metal casing held a lump of rock or crystal, mostly brown but shading to red in some places where the light hit it. It was large enough that carrying it would put an entire arm out of use, but that was why Jane had brought a backpack. After all, she would need both of her arms to get out of this place, just as she had needed them to get in. So she carefully maneuvered the device into her bag, cushioning it with a couple t-shirts she had brought specifically for that purpose.
"Am I clear to exit?" she asked. She assumed that he already knew she had secured the device.
"Excellent work," Tal remarked after a moment. Mainly to remind her that he was still there -- she certainly didn't need his assistance. "I knew I'd chosen properly. The item should be just beyond that door. Once you've deactivated the radiation protecting it, the rest should be rather simple."
Technically, there was a small risk to her from kryptonite radiation. Exposure had been shown to have varying effects on humans. But he did not particularly care.

The speed and silence with which Jane reached up, dislodged a ceiling tile, pulled herself up into the resulting cavity, and shifted the tile almost back into place, leaving just enough of a crack that she could see and hear, would have impressed just about any observer -- except, perhaps, Morgan Edge, Jane thought. The man was, after all, one smug son of a bitch, with superhuman powers to boot.
On the other hand, she told herself, she didn't actually need him to respect her, as long as he upheld his side of their bargain. So she remained scrunched up in the ceiling in silence, until her path was looked and sounded clear again. Then she slid from her hiding space and approached the door behind which -- according to Morgan Edge -- this mysterious device lay.
Excellent. She really was as good as they said -- and she damn well should be, considering the effort that had been put into shaping her. Tal watched from his perch as she made her way down the corridor, noting any obstacles along her path.
She'd almost made it to the door when a movement caught his attention. "The door on your left. Someone's about to come out."

Had Jane been more knowledgeable about Morgan Edge's powers, she would have realized that he was smug for the exact same reason Alexander Pierce had been smug -- because he believed himself to be untouchable. But she didn't know that he was bulletproof, or that his enhanced strength far outmatched her own. She simply knew that he could fly and see through walls.
Of course, Jane wasn't stupid, either, and she was well aware that Edge was very unlikely to divulge all of his advantages to a mere temporary ally. That was why she was planning to take some of HYDRA's kryptonite -- just in case Edge decided to renege on their deal. Granted, that was probably exactly what he expected her to do, but a weakness was a weakness, and if Edge was so badly affected by this rare mineral that he'd struck a deal with Jane to bypass it instead, then he probably didn't have any defense against it.
From her place in the ventilation shaft, she listened closely to the footsteps of the guard. Once he'd passed by and turned the corner, she lifted the grille out of place, slid silently to the ground, replaced the grille, and made her move. Like the ghost she'd been trained to be -- first by the SSR and later by the Soviets -- she slid unseen past the two rooms and made her way to the bunker's entrance.
At her snippy response, Tal just smiled to himself. He'd almost like to see her try to punch him -- see just how well that vibranium arm of hers stood up against Kryptonian strength. He had every confidence that he would win, without so much as lifting a finger.
Unless she kept some of that kryptonite, of course.
He focused on counting the figures nearest to her location. "One in the same corridor as you. He appears to be making the rounds. Another two in the room to the right, and one to the left. When the guard passes again, you should be momentarily clear. Then you can dazzle me with your display."

"You're not clever, Edge," Jane grunted as she continued her descent. "You're just smug. And you oughta know, I got a long history of punchin' people who're smug towards me."
Miss Barnes. God, she hated that. She hated the way he said it, and she hated even more the reminder of her old identity. She wasn't Bucky Barnes anymore, and might never be Bucky Barnes again. She was Jane, just plain Jane. When she absolutely had to use a last name, she'd been using O'Hanrahan, her dead fiance's surname. Jack, she thought, would have understood. It was a root, yes, but unlike the name Barnes, it wasn't a shackle.
Digging her boot-clad toes into the sides of the ventilation shaft, she paused for a moment to shove all those complicated feelings away, forcing herself to ignore them. They would only distract her -- though it would help, of course, if Morgan Edge could keep his unnecessary comments to himself. But he was, as she'd just pointed out, smug. And smug men never knew when to keep their mouths shut.
Alexander Pierce had been smug, too. But someone had put two slugs through his heart before the Triskelion had collapsed on top of him. That had shut him up for good, and Jane wasn't sorry about that. Her only regret there was that she hadn't been the one to kill him herself.
After a moment, she took a deep breath and returned to her downward journey, measuring out the yards in her head. Fifty-three -- thanks, Edge -- to go before she reached the basement that held the entrance to the secret bunker. Edge's X-ray vision would be able to help there, too; HYDRA didn't appear to have lined the bunker in lead, which seemed to Jane to be a major oversight when they were hiding an object from an asset whom they knew could see through walls. Morgan Edge must have been highly trusted.
A few minutes further work brought her to the grille covering the vent, and she paused there, peering out and listening carefully. Footsteps -- one pair -- rhythmic. Probably a security guard. She waited for the footsteps to recede and them whispered, "How many people can you see in play down here? There's at least one."
Tal had every confidence in Miss Barnes to get the job done. She was a ruthless, efficient machine in that way -- whether that was her Winter Soldier programming or simply a leftover from the woman she used to be, he frankly didn't care. As long as she completed this task for him, he could fulfill his end of their bargain, and they could part ways.
Though he fully expected her to pocket some of the kryptonite. He'd do the same in her shoes, after all. Perhaps she would need to be taken care of later.
For now, he simply watched her through the building's walls, hovering in a well-hidden spot not far from the building. Her path was clear, and she was doing perfectly well on her own, but he still liked to cut in occasionally. Just to remind her that he was watching.
"You think so?" He glanced down the rest of the shaft, his quick Kryptonian mind performing the mental math effortlessly. "I'd estimate approximately... fifty-three yards remaining. Don't tell me you're losing your touch, Miss Barnes."

Tal huffed rather melodramatically and rolled his eyes. He’d been hoping they could leave immediately. But it was best to stay on her good side, since she’d agreed to help. “I am not the most patient man, Miss Barnes. But very well. How long do you anticipate this mission of yours taking?”
As he spoke, he pulled a piece of paper from his pocket and scribbled down a phone number, which he held out to her. “Contact me here to arrange a rendezvous.”
"Gimme a week,” Jane said, accepting the scribbled phone number. “I’ll finish up in New York and then I’ll call.”
She was as good as her word, contacting Morgan Edge exactly seven days later, having left HYDRA’s operations in New York a mess of flames and blood. HYDRA knew by now that the Winter Soldier was off her leash, and that she was coming for them. They’d be trying to anticipate her next move now, probably think that she would target DC and Philadelphia -- exactly what her original plan had been. In that respect, perhaps Morgan Edge’s request for assistance would be of some benefit. HYDRA wouldn’t be expecting her to target an operation in London next.
[SMS]: send coordinates. i’ll meet you there.

Telling her about the kryptonite was a calculated risk – but one person having it in their possession would still be an improvement over his current situation. And his offer of help was genuine. Ideally, there would be no reason for her to attempt to double-cross him. They could simply complete their arrangement and go their separate ways.
“Excellent. We should begin preparations immediately – the device I seek is protected in a facility just outside of London. I should be able to secure your access, though getting in and out will be your responsibility. In the meantime, give thought on who you would like your target to be and I will begin making the arrangements.”
"Now hold up just one minute,” Jane said. “I agreed to help you. I didn’t agree to drop everything and help you right this instant. I got business to finish in New York before we go haring off to London. You want to work together, you gotta let me wrap up my mission here first.”
Jane had no objections to cooperating, but she was in the middle of a job right now, and she certainly didn’t feel like scrapping all the effort she’d put into gathering intel and tracking down HYDRA’s agents for the sake of Morgan Edge and his own personal crusade. He wasn’t her handler. She wasn’t going to be at his beck and call. This was going to be a partnership of equals, not yet another person giving Jane orders, or else she wasn’t interested.

He should have known this part would be unavoidable. Half-truths would likely not suffice here – but there was no reason to divulge more than necessary. “I am not of this Earth,” Tal admitted plainly. “Apart from the standard protections, the item is guarded by a particular mineral that I cannot approach without becoming… well, rather violently ill. But a human such as yourself should face no problems.”
Jane was starting to think that Morgan Edge was perhaps a little more desperate than he seemed. Assuming she agreed to his proposal, he’d just handed her another weapon -- the knowledge that this mysterious mineral could be used against him, that it could be another safeguard to prevent him from double-crossing her.
As for his claimed extraterrestrial origins...well, it wasn’t the craziest thing Jane had ever heard. Aliens were known to exist -- Hell, they’d attacked New York City a few years back -- and it wouldn’t surprise her if HYDRA had a few in their pockets. Plus, it was a weirdly complicated story that Edge was spinning, which made it unlikely that this was a ruse to lure her back.
“All right,” she said. “It’s a deal.”
