Crafting a Personality and Capitalising on it
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
How do we craft a personality that is socially charming yet true to our roots?
How do we mingle and meet new people without feeling awkward or shy about it?
How do we not lose ourselves while following all these blah blah etiquette rules?
Welcome to part 2 of my Chic Girl Mentality series. 🤍
Today, we will focus on crafting a personality that is still you but better.
First, let’s talk about people in social settings. You’ll meet people who are confident, secure and socially charming. You’ll meet quiet people who may be equally socially charming or just very shy and conscious. You’ll meet the braggers and the doe-eyed followers. There’s a lot of different types of people in the world and knowing how to gracefully navigate most of them is nothing but a learned art.
People, regardless of their bank balance, are insecure of what they do not have yet. This can be looks, money, experience, lifestyle, and so on. How do we capitalise on this without exploiting or manipulating anyone?
By knowing how to tell a story.
That doesn’t mean that you need to become a public speaker or politician, it just means that you need to be able to craft intriguing stories about yourself, using your own life and experiences, to “sell” an interesting version of you socially. We’re all interesting people but only a few of us know how to say that we’re interesting without saying that we’re interesting.
Experience
People, even those with money, will always be more attracted to those who have experiences, especially, unique ones. Whether it’s travelling to exotic locations or trying new culinary destinations, or wearing unknown designers, knowing obscure artists or writers, or being at the top of your industry… experience is the most important thing to cultivate first.  You already have experience. If you went to school, high school, college, joined clubs, your first job, any travelling, etc - these are all experiences.
Make a list of 5 of the most interesting experiences you think you have.
Hobbies and interests
Have a couple of lowkey hobbies that you feel enthusiastic about. Whether it’s doing some charity work on Sundays, or cooking, or pottery, whatever it is, keeping a hobby is healthy.
There should be something to you that an acquaintance can remark about: “CSB? Oh yes, I’ve heard that she’s a great dancer.”
Vulnerabilities
Certain vulnerabilities must never, ever be shared. It will 100% be used either as gossip or blackmail.
However, coming across as someone with no weaknesses is rather untrustworthy- it makes the other person feel that you’re clearly hiding something.
Make a list of vulnerabilities that are small and you don’t mind sharing. These should be vulnerabilities that will never ruin your reputation in any form but can be used as a form of bonding with empathy.
And make a list of hard core vulnerabilities you know you should never share with anyone. Keep it memorised rather than written down.
Experience + Hobbies or Interests + Safe Vulnerabilities = Personality
Storytelling
Now that you have some experience, hobbies, interests, and your “safe” vulnerabilities sorted even if it’s limited - what will make it stand out is the art of storytelling. Some storytellers can make even the most mundane experiences sound magical - it’s all in the words and delivery. There’s a reason why every Holy Book is a story, packed with lessons and morals - it’s impactful, easy to remember and recall and relatable. Craft your experiences into stories. Use those 5 experiences that you noted down and start writing them down as stories.
Take up an online storytelling class or watch videos. Start honing this skill by writing and reading good literature.
Refine your 5 experiences further. Run it through chatGPT, say them out loud and most importantly- start testing them out on people. See what makes them chuckle and what doesn’t; what makes them empathise and what doesn’t.
A famous comedian whose name I can’t remember does the same thing. He creates his set. He goes to a small pub and tries it out on the audience there. And the first set is always the first. The audience may not laugh at his jokes, they might boo him or sometimes, he might get a laugh out of them. But every time, he goes home and refines his set further. Once his set is fully refined, and he accomplishes his goal of the audience peeling with laughter at every joke, that’s when he goes on national TV / on tour etc etc.
The most important thing is to craft your stories of your experiences in a way that it delivers the value you want the person to remember about you.
For instance, if I want to be seen as creative and innovative, I won’t tell the person in front of me, “oh, I’m soo innovative and creative!”
Rather I will weave that into a story. “When I was 24, at my first job in the advertising space, we were losing clients left and right. And one weekend, I was on a trek on the mountains - it’s one of my hobbies - this idea hit me, and I suddenly knew exactly how to get our clients back. My team was hesitant about my idea, and we got a lot of pushback, but we went ahead. The night before my launch I was so nervous, I got hardly sleep. And you won’t believe it, but the idea worked! The response was fantastic.”
Let the other person come to the conclusion of you being innovative and creative. Human beings love to deduce things and jump to conclusions and provided you set the context the right way, you should be able to project the version of you that is the best part of you.
Vocabulary
A sign of a good education- even if you don’t have it - is a diverse vocabulary. I’ve always had a little more respect and awe for those who are articulate, can speak smoothly and speak confidently. I’ve noticed that my American friends, for instance, tend to talk fast with lots of filler words, and sentences tend to end with a pitch up instead of down, which to me indicates hesitation or indecision. Speaking slower, ending your sentences with pitch going down to indicate a full stop rather than up makes you seem like a refined speaker even if your subject is utterly stupid.
Body language and mannerisms, social interaction
Watch old classic Hollywood movies to really understand this - especially romantic ones. Choose ones with a femme fatale or siren-like female lead, and watch how she enraptures the male lead or the audience around her.
A combination of fantastic storytelling and body language will take you places beyond your dreams. Some of the biggest frauds, scammers, politicians, criminals are also some of the best storytellers. Humans are attracted to stories, we pick up body language intuitively, we can sense when someone is nervous or isn’t. Unfortunately the world isn’t a kind place and will not necessarily help you out of your shyness- in fact, that might just make you the best target for exploitation.
Storytelling + Vocabulary + Body Language = Your Best Personality

OH YEAH what are avarage life expectancies for sirenians?
Probably what you'd expect! For the sake of not hurting my head, these are earth years. The zeta are the shortest-lived, growing old around 60-70. Then it's the landstrider harpies with an average lifespan of 80 (no coincidence that the terrestrial ones have the shortest lifespans). then any given harpy hybrid around 100ish, the same as the average human life expectancy at the time of settling.
Shortwings and longwings actually have the same longevity with an expectancy of 120ish years, but shortwings become markedly elderly much sooner than longwings and usually lose their ability to fly in their 80s. Flying is much easier for longwings, and a very elderly longwing can fly right up til they die of old age, though by then they won't be flapping, only active gliding like an albatross.
Selkies can expect to live about 130 years if nothing goes wrong. The sea is a dangerous place to live and a high infant mortality tends to drag the average down, but if they survive adolescence their chances of living til old age shoot up.
Phocids are the biggest but also the slowest growing and they don't even reach their full length until they're 30-35 years old, or older in some cases (esp. polar individuals). They have a similar issue with infant mortality skewing averages but many villages' all-bearers, the eldest and most experienced phocids who run the villages, can be over 200 years old. Just good luck getting there

DIABOLIK LOVERS CHAOS LINEAGE Vol.3 Orange
Tumblr media
Translation: Upcoming, and as always by courtesy of my buddy @otomehonyaku! Links will be added as soon as they are available ٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و ♡
Audio: Here (CD owned by me). Please do not reupload anywhere.
Starring: Ruki Mukami (CV: Takahiro Sakurai), Shin Tsukinami (CV: Shōtarō Morikubo), Ayato Sakamaki (CV: Hikaru Midorikawa), Kanato Sakamaki (CV: Yuki Kaji)
Plot: After being held captive first in the Scarlet mansion and then the Violet mansion, "Eve" has managed escape into the forest, where she encounters Shin, a member of the Orange family. Desperate to get away from her captors and the purported dangers of the forest, "Eve" asks him if he knows of a safe place she can go to. Shin offers to hide her in the Orange mansion, and "Eve" accepts, following him to his home. There, she soon meets his brothers: Ayato, Kanato, and finally Ruki, the eldest and head of the family. It quickly becomes apparent that Shin lied about the mansion being a safe place for the poor girl, who has now, if not precisely jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire, at the very least entered an equally perilous situation as the ones she's just escaped from...
Word to the wise: Use headphones. The noises these guys make as they suck Yui's blood can at times get a bit...intense.
My Thoughts: Aside from being slightly surprised that Shin got more lines and focus than his "brothers" (he's the only one that appears in every track), this CD gave me more or less what I anticipated: Ayato and Kanato being disruptive and rebellious; Shin telling them to "obey Nii-san"; Ruki effortlessly seducing both Yui and me; and, of course, plenty of bloodsucking.
I found the interactions between the Orange "siblings" pretty entertaining. Kanato fighting Ayato off with a bottle of shampoo, of all things, was not something I ever expected from this kind of Drama CD XD. I do feel sorry for Ruki, though – the amount of property damage the others must cause on a daily basis must be a headache to deal with. The fact that these boys feel the need to kick in locked doors rather than, y'know, teleport through them says a lot about their needlessly destructive tendencies. Gotta make a dramatic entrance I suppose? lol.
Getting back to Ruki (my favorite thing to do, tbh), I thoroughly enjoyed his portions of the CD. The scenes where he and Yui interact definitely did not disappoint ⁄(⁄ ⁄ ⁄ω⁄ ⁄ ⁄)⁄. I really appreciate the writers for saving the best Ruki's bloodsucking scene for last; his voice and the sounds he makes when he sucks blood always have me  _(´ཀ`」 ∠)_.

@dgraysonafterdark continued from [x]
"Much better than my previous visit~" She replied, a slight purr to her words as she focused on the breakfast.
Last visit had been terrifying. A nasty scare where she'd almost been lured to... honestly she wasn't sure what the intended result was going to be but it sire wasn't what she had been booked for. And then upon spontaneously visiting her boyfriend, she'd discovered he was the vigilante Nightwing. That... she'd needed a solid week to process that. It had taken a lot of thinking to figure out just where she stood on the matter because of course she supported heroes and vigilantes. They really helped when the actual police couldn't or wouldn't. It had taken a lot of pacing and mumbling to herself to talk through the parts that were bothering and scaring her.
There are absolutely aspects that still bother and scare her but she's at least acknowledged where she stands on the matter. And Dick's been good to her. Serious enough that he's met her parents. For now, she's happy to stay.
"I take it you like seein' your shirt on me~?" She asked, purposefully ignoring the fact that she was wearing lingerie in his colour too. He had to have figured that out already, he's smart and observant.

You know, it happens when you get inspired by something so chic, but sometimes you stumble, firstly because of your drawing skill, and secondly, I don’t know if this is a common phenomenon, but I have low self-esteem as an artist and I understand that the idea is bad or I don’t have the strength to just continue. But in the end, at least the sketch remained of this comic
Ahem, sorry for the long digression. In general, the idea was very simple, what do we associate with aristocracy? Social receptions, right. But, I would like to depict who and how they feel at them. Let's say, Vernal would be uncomfortable in a crowd, as would Pip, who is a mercenary and does not care about it. And Seras? I suppose she would often stick close to Alucard and repeat after him that she is an aristocrat from birth. The same with Integra, but she does not like all this, at least because she will have to change her suit for a dress and smoke less. And Walter, like an impenetrable rock, stands and smiles slyly, probably internally tired of preparing for the reception and also watching over the order and the servants.
The situation is standard and banal, and in anime there is less everyday life, but I often find it interesting to think about who would have reacted or done something in this situation 🤔

Her smile widened with her nod of agreement. "Sure is." The applause for Eight seemed to prove Siren's point; while it may have seemed ridiculous to Cecelia, it landed for The Capitol, and that was all she could really ask for. Good way to make a first impression. "He does, at least the Tributes have that going for them," she replied. Even the most shy of Tributes managed to make some sort of conversation with Caesar by the end of their time on stage. "Taylor might be a little more reserved, but I think Satina will do well in the interviews. Hoping Training will go smoothly for them, too."
Tumblr media
"It's certainly a way to showcase it." She let out a small chuckle, though she did see what the stylist had been going for. Though, she wasn't quite sure if it hit the mark. "I don't think it's slowing them down any, look at how they're working the crowd." Siren's finger pointed at the screen as her grin grew watching eight's tributes. "I think they'll have no trouble with interviews. Ceasar makes it pretty easy." The nerves she felt during her own interview were almost gone by the time she waved the crowd goodbye. "Thank you, I think they've got a good shot at scoring high. If the parade is any indication of how training will go."
