TIES THAT BIND.
❝ honor thy family for doing the things your family does for you, children.❞

What does family mean to you? Who do you apply that label to? (birth family, distant family, chosen family, etc.)
To Catherine Daly, her biological family is everything; it’s what makes life worth living and what keeps her going strong. The Daly family is the reason why she joined Capulet ranks in the first place--she couldn’t see herself being a worthy daughter to Louis and Simona without joining the ranks alongside her sisters. So, when Louis implored her to do so, she obeyed. It wasn’t like she, the always-eager-to-please golden girl, had much of a choice anyway.
The warm-hearted soldier does not use the word “family” flippantly and without care, but there are some people who’ve burrowed their way into her bleeding heart. Because of this, she has adopted them into a little family of her own; the kaleidoscope pieces of her tiny family may not mesh well if they were to be thrown together, but they each offer something special to the littlest Daly that she’d do everything in her power to preserve and protect. Her chosen family includes Theodora Moreau, Maeve Petre, Easton Craven, Bellamy Santo Domingo, and Valentina Gallo.
How many members does your family consist of? Describe each one.
biological family
Louis Daly / father
Louis Daly is, sins and decisions aside, the best father the Daly woman could wish for. He’s always made sure that his family is well off and taken care of, something he’s unknowingly instilled in his youngest daughter. Catherine is a “daddy’s girl,” regardless of the fact that the decisions he made in the past have directly affected her future. He is a multifaceted man, a mobster and a father, a friend and a foe. In spite of it all, Catherine loves her father as much as a daughter could be expected; Louis loves her as much as a father could be expected to, though he’d be loathe to admit it, especially because she remains to be soft even when he’s plunged her into a world of ruin and immorality.
Simona Daly (née: Moretti) / mother
She’s sugar, spice, and just the right amount of nice. Simona Daly is a gift to the Daly family, having perfected the art of tough love through playing the “bad cop” to her husband’s “good cop” approach with the girls. But, she, like Louis, wants nothing for the best for her daughters. So, when he approached her with news of his new “job,” Simona readily joined the ranks soon after to further steep the Daly name in Capulet affairs. Possessing a deadly sort of grace and tactfulness, she excelled at being a mother and a Capulet, a confidante and a disciplinarian. The dichotomy of the woman makes it difficult for Catherine to connect with her on the same level as she does her father, but she loves her nonetheless.
Grace Daly / sister
Between the three of the Daly daughters, Grace is certainly the lion amongst wolves; when something is expected of her, she does the exact opposite and does it well, just to spite anyone who dares to look her way. She is all of her parents’ bad traits and habits bound in one body: crassness, boldness, stubbornness, defiance--violence. Catherine loves her eldest sister as any little sister would, but she finds herself torn between separating the deeds from the person and, sometimes, she just can’t.
Regina Daly / sister
Regina is is far-removed, unfeeling, unreachable--the total opposite of her younger sister. Where Regina is a machine programmed for destruction and war, Catherine is a dove perpetually poised to offer an olive branch to anyone who asks. Despite their differences, Catherine favors the middle Daly over the eldest (though she’ll never tell Grace that) and oftentimes enjoys their encounters, as they rarely end in raised voices, stinging taunts, or balled fists.
chosen family
Theodora Moreau
Theodora Moreau is one of the few who looks at Catherine and sees potential rather than impotence. They are everything the littlest Daly wishes she could be: poised, tactful, skilled, respected. They are a god of their own making and while Catherine does not wish to go that far, she does wish to attain the roll of emissary and Theo’s decision to take her under their wing has earned them a loyal companion and student.
Maeve Petre
Seeing the Petre girl is like looking an angel in its face, like taking in a deep breath of fresh air in an atmosphere reeking of deception and death, like seeing the light after drowning in darkness for so long. Maeve is everything Catherine looks for in others and she sees so much of herself in the other, which is why they mesh so well. Though Maeve is more tenderhearted than she, Catherine is not envious; in fact, it makes her love the girl even more.
Easton Craven
He is temptation wrapped in the prettiest of packages that she simply cannot resist. Easton is terribly crass and unapologetic, but he can also be vulnerable and soft. Catherine vies constantly for the gentler parts of the bastard boy in efforts to show him the happier things in life (read: love), but he is unmoving and unwilling--and she can’t help those who don’t want her assistance.
Bellamy Santo Domingo
The Santo Domingo man is everything she could have wished for and more--save for the fact that he’s a Montague. From the moment they met, Cat knew he was different and they became the fastest of friends, the thickest of thieves, Apollo and Athena. Bellamy’s innately trust-inducing demeanor has earned him a special place in Catherine’s heart, a place reserved for him and him alone, a place where she can hide and cherish their stolen but peaceful moments together.
Valentina Gallo
Valentina is cunning wolf with the sharpest of teeth, and Catherine wasn’t sure they’d ever be more than associates bound together by their allegiance to Cosimo Capulet. But, it just so happens that opposites attract and she’s found a home in the Gallo woman, a sister when she had given up on that dream long ago, and she’ll be damned before she allows their bond to fade away.
What role does each member, including you, play in the family?
Louis Daly / il mio fornitore
“Mi principessa, you are a light in this crazy world we live in.” He picks her up and spins, causing the young girl to giggle and cling to him. “You’re different, but special and you hold a special place in my heart because of it.”
Since beginning of her time, Louis Daly has been a provider, a friend, a father. From checking under her bed for monsters, to surprising her with gifts and trinkets, and to loving her in spite of her sharp contrast to what he wanted out of a daughter, he’s been a protector of sorts for the golden-haired girl and, despite his life choices, she’s forever grateful.
Simona Daly / la mia ispirazione segreta
"Don’t not let any label--daughter, sister, wife, whatever--limit or define you. You were born surrounded by those who love you most, and if you live a good life, you’ll leave this world surrounded by the ones you love the most.” She plants a kiss atop Cat’s forehead as she tucks her youngest into her bed. “Make smart choices.”
Wise beyond her years in the eyes of her then-young child, Simona Daly has earned her title of mother time and time again. Always there to lend a hand when absolutely necessary and to be a listening ear when not, she has always been a constant factor in Cat’s life. Though Simona also pledged her allegiance to Cosimo, she did so out of loyalty to Louis and Catherine cannot fault her mother for doing the same thing she’s now done.
Grace Daly / la mia vortice spericolata
“I hate helping you because you always give me that look after I suggest something, but mio dio listen to my advice for once: when I’m stuck in a rut, I find the person who is standing in my way and get rid of them.”
Grace is a Montague by affiliation, but a Daly by blood and, because of this, Catherine struggles with decisions concerning the moral ambiguity that is her eldest sibling. Just when Catherine thinks she’s sure of an answer or action, Grace is quick to knock her off her feet and remind her that things are not always as they seem--and that she is the best of the Daly sisters, of course.
Regina Daly / la mia oscurità vuota
“Catherine, it is foolish to dwell on whatever it is, especially considering I asked you about your physical injuries with the intention of helping with them.” An eye for an eye; she’s repaying a debt and nothing more.
As empty and unfeeling as darkness comes, Regina is a shell of a woman compared to her two sisters. But, where both Grace and Catherine fail, she thrives. Akin to the rose that grew through concrete, Regina has surprised them all time and time again as a machine of war and tactile efficiency, effectively earning Catherine’s timid respect and Grace’s unbridled wrath.
Theodora Moreau / il mio dio
"You’re not defective, Catherine.” Their words are soft, but weighty all the same as they continue, “And you’re certainly not a lost cause. I see potential in you. I wouldn’t spend the time I do with you if I saw otherwise.”
They’ve kept their word, always offering advice and a listening ear to their beloved mentee. Because of this, Catherine sees Theodora as her champion, as the one who will take her softness and mould it into a weapon in its own right, a weapon that doesn’t require blood for reparations. She’ll never be able to repay them as they deserve, but she’ll certainly try.
Maeve Petre / la mia anima gemella
"Cara mia, believe me: we will shine bright amongst the stars!” A giggle escapes her lips as she punctuates her decree by plopping back down onto Catherine’s couch. “We will.”
The vibrant innocence that is Maeve Petre reminds Catherine of who she was before she joined the ranks, before she learned that lies were traded as currency and truths were frowned upon. The younger girl is Catherine’s mirror, her twin spirit; thusly, it follows that their hearts beat in sync with one another as a constant reminder that they are alive, that they are stronger than any weapon ever forged against them, that they are inseparable.
Easton Craven / il mio diavolo
“I didn’t think I’d end up back here so soon.” His words are followed by sounds he’s deliberately eliciting: a gasp, a moan, a sigh. “But trust me, cara mia, I’m not complaining.”
It started out as a one-night stand--a moment of weakness from the saint who gave into her more carnal desires. But, one night too-soon grew into multiple nights and she found herself growing quite fond of the Craven man--more so than she’d have ever thought or hoped. He is the complete opposite to Catherine--where she is pristine, he is sullied; where she is made and swaddled with love, he is created and doused with war. In the littlest Daly’s chosen family, he plays the role of toxic lover well; he’s ensnared to fragile heart of Catherine Daly with ease and he doesn’t plan on letting go until it and she are utterly destroyed.
Bellamy Santo Domingo / il mio amato nemico
He sips at his tea, absentmindedly running his fingers through Isa’s fur as he murmurs, “I wish we could do away with Montague and Capulet ideology and just... Be.”
If his adorable pet wasn’t enough to ease her worries, his words were all she needed to hear to solidify her amicable feelings for the Santo Domingo man. Anxiously, she accepted his invitation to his little apartment out of watchful eyes and she was instantly rewarded. Bellamy is her confidante and she’s his; they confess their gentle aspirations to one another on the outskirts of Verona over tea. She loves him dearly, no matter if he is in Verona or traveling the world--though selfishly, she hopes he stays.
Valentina Gallo / la mia ammirevole lupa
“I'm looking out for you, that's all. Don't thank me until we actually get you to where you don't need me or anyone else to push you.”
Catherine didn’t say it, but she was sure she’d need Valentina for as long as they were both alive--even after she learned to see what the Gallo woman sees. Val is the Daly woman’s complete opposite and a shield against unwanted or unprompted attacks; she is the eye of a hurricane that Catherine would give nearly anything to reach, just to bask in the quietness and the comfort that follows. As the fire to her water, the sea to her sky, Valentina is Catherine’s perfect complement and she’s not sure how she managed to make it though without Val by her side.
Describe your relationship with each of them.
Louis Daly & Simona Daly
Catherine plays the part of the perfect daughter well, aside from the glaring fact that she refuses to completely comply to the rules of the lifestyle that has afforded her all she’s ever wanted. Lifestyle choices aside, the relationship she has with her parents is as typical as one could imagine, considering the organization they’ve all given themselves to.
Grace Daly & Regina Daly
She’s a nuisance to them both, though Grace is certainly more vocal about it. Regina pays Catherine no mind as she’s not a threat to her position, but she can’t doesn’t despise the golden girl as much as Grace does. Even still, Catherine works to get into their good graces on her own terms; she doesn’t kill as they both wish she would, but she does get what’s asked of her done and surely, surely that warrants some kind of acknowledgement or respect.
Theodora Moreau
They are more than a mentor to her, just as she is more than a student to them. Theodora is Catherine’s saving grace, her guardian angel in a world riddled with demons. She looks up to them (probably more than they realize), and she works day in and day out to make them proud, to show them that the faith they’ve put in her hasn’t all be in vain.
Maeve Petre
She sees Maeve was a little sister of sorts, as something she wishes to nurture and grow under her watchful gaze. As Cat offers what little protection and guidance she can, Maeve offers peace in wartime and often points out to Cat the good in every situation. Catherine will never be able to thank Maeve for reminding her to remain true to herself when the world demands differently, but she prays day in and day out that the Petre girl will see their strong bong as respectable compensation.
Easton Craven
Oh, how badly the saint of Verona wishes to soothe the beast that is the known as the bastard Craven boy. Oh, how her heart yearns for him to feel the warmth he was denied for years in his life--to feel loved by her, to love himself, and to love her in return. She’d trade her halo and pluck her wings just for him to get a taste of solace and joy; she’d sin against her God if it meant her East would be alright. She’s never met a soul quite as dark as his, but the littlest Daly is determined to show him the light--that is, if he doesn’t snuff it out of her first.
Bellamy Santo Domingo
She can hardly remember how she and Bellamy came to be, how she began to see the Montague man as her equal, as her friend. When he left, she felt an empty space in her chest that she never thought she’d be able to fill. But, Dio favors His little saint and He sent Bellamy back to her, effectively making her whole again. She adores the Montague man and his pretty grey tabby; without them, Catherine’s not sure how she’d be able to reconcile the Montagues with kindness.
Valentina Gallo
Catherine never imagined that nervous texts seeking help would lead to the startlingly strong link between Valentina and herself, but such tragedy brings even the most unlikeliest of people together in unison and camaraderie. Catherine looks out for Valentina just as Valentina looks out for Catherine; together, la lupa and la colomba and unstoppable and Cat relishes in the feeling of invincibility that Val gives to her.
What is your family life like? Describe your average day among them.
She doesn’t see Simona and Louis that often--not as much as she’d like. She and her sisters typically only return to the house that built them for special occasions--birthdays, holidays, deaths, promotions, etc--or if they’re summoned and even then, the chances of all complying are slim to none. Catherine tries her best to see her mother and father at least once a month, but in the off-chance she cannot, she’s quick to send a text telling them she’s alive, what’s going on in her life, and that she loves them both dearly.
Since switching sides, she hasn’t seen much of Grace unless she catches her sibling on her way back to her flat--which is still in Capulet territory, by the way. On the rare chance that she does see the destructive woman, she’s typically run in circles by Grace’s twisting of her words and poking at Cat’s feelings and moral. Conversely, she sees Regina quite often in numerous settings: as a captain, as a sister, as a person, and she’s always quick to offer a warm greeting even though all she gets in return is something far less vibrant.
However, Theodora makes waking up and facing the days much easier. Knowing that she can simply go to them and be (if she’s not plucked for Capulet business, that is) offers an unexplainable sense of comfort for the young soldier. However, the days in which Catherine goes to Theodora as an escape are few and far between; she’s incredibly fond of the company they offer and she’s equally as fond of the knowledge they give her.
Maeve and Bellamy also help Catherine trudge through her life as a soldier. She’s much more likely to see her fellow Capulet than her rival Montague, but even receiving a text from Bellamy (containing a picture of beloved Isadora, if she’s lucky) is enough to put a smile on her face. If she doesn’t see Maeve in passing concerning Capulet business, she’s quick to invite the girl to their favorite cafe or she’ll even surprise Maeve by popping up at her home--just to say hi.
When softness isn’t quite enough, her sweet lupa is always by her side, whether physically or emotionally. Only a text, phone call, or visit away, Valentina is someone she knows she can always count on. If Catherine doesn’t come in contact with the Gallo woman within the confines of the Cathedral and the working day, she’s sure to send a text to let her know she’s thinking of her and looking out for her.
But, not all things are perfect in Cat’s average day and Easton is sure to make his presence (or lack thereof, sometimes) felt. Whether he sends her lustful texts and pictures at the most inopportune time or calls her in a biting anger, all contact is welcomed with open arms. She’s not sure when she’ll see him by chance (though she’s loathe to admit she’s more likely to catch him eyeing another person, kissing them, filling her with jealousy discomfort than catching him milling around Verona), but when she does, she can’t ignore the staccato of her heart, the way it yearns for him and all of his imperfections.
How would your parents describe you? (you can answer in-character or with the parents’ voices.)
Soft.
Both Simona and Louis can agree that their youngest, their golden-haired bundle of joy, their Cat is soft. Not in the sense that she is weak-willed or easily persuaded, but rather in the sense that she longs for peace and justice in the underworld of crime and destruction. Her hopes and aspirations are pipe dreams at best--they know this--but the voracity at which Catherine clings to them also give them another word to describe her: determined.
Whether they like it or not, they cannot deny the fact that Catherine is as determined as they come, nor can they act as if it is not their own fault. In showering their baby with adoration fit for a deity, they’ve made her a force to be reckoned with--a woman with steel-wrapped spine who knows exactly what she does and does not want.
Do you think your family played a role in shaping the person you’ve become? Why? Why not?
The Daly family has most certainly shaped Catherine into the woman she’s become, specifically because they are the reason she calls herself a Capulet and a huge reason as to why she is the way she is: the stark opposite of them all. Theodora is the first person with a respectable rank to look at Catherine and see potential rather than impotence and they’re moulding her into a more viable candidate for the position of emissary. Bellamy and Maeve have not shaped who she is; rather, they’ve allowed who she is to flourish underneath their sweet acceptance and she’s eternally grateful. Valentina works hard to decorate Catherine’s steel spine of morals with thorns of confidence and unapologetic boldness; whether Val knows it or not, her techniques are working--slowly but surely. Easton, however, is working hard to lay waste to the good inside Catherine, to break her and leave her just as barren and cold as he is and she’s painfully aware, but terribly stubborn in her thoughts that she can change him while remaining true to herself.
Has your relationship with your family changed over the years?
On the surface, the relationship she shares with the Daly clan as a whole barely seemed to have changed; she’s still the golden girl, still the youngest sister, still soft in a world that demands for toughness. However, upon closer inspection, one would see that the favor she receives from Louis has made her grateful, the love she receives from Simona has made her compassionate, the destruction she receives from Grace has made her tactful, and the hollowness she receives from Regina has made her resilient. While her feelings for them have never wavered, she’s grown more bold in her disdain for their methods and ideologies.
The bond forged between the mentor and the student has not changed since it was created; even from the beginning, they both considered each other to be more than Capulet associates, to be more akin to family than simply friends. Theodora has been a constant and steadfast factor in Catherine’s life since they’ve arrived, and Cat will do all she can to keep them and make them proud.
Bellamy and Maeve have only grown more near and dear to Catherine’s heart as time has dragged on. Her once secret, anxiety-riddled trips to see Bellamy and beloved Isadora are now coveted escapes from the dastardly world they’re immersed in; her now-nonexistent hesitation she felt towards someone softer than herself has blossomed into fierce devotion and love. The Three Musketeers, she dubs them and herself silently, warmly. She can’t imagine such a taxing life without them.
Her ties to Valentina are relatively fresh, but it doesn’t lessen the compassion she feels towards the other woman. What started out as a plea for help has turned into a strong relationship between the two--a rather sisterly relationship that Catherine has been seeking for her entire life. Val is everything she’s wished for in a sister and more, and she’s looking out for her as much as the Gallo woman is looking out for her.
The relationship she’s started with Easton is new and damningly ensnaring; the most innocent of the Daly’s one-night stand has morphed into a strained relationship between the two of them in which one loves much too fiercely and the other not nearly enough. What once was just sex to sate her carnality has become something much more, and Catherine isn’t sure how she’ll be able to handle it, isn’t sure how she’ll be able to handle broken promises and her own battered heart.
Have you begun your own family? If not, do you ever want to have a family of your own someday?
Catherine has not started her own family (except for the motley crew she’s adopted on her own terms), and she’s unsure as to if she ever will--that is, start a family in Verona, of course. She’s grateful for what the Capulets have done for her, but she is weary about bringing children of her own into such a morally grey and damaging world. If she gets the choice, she’ll raise a family elsewhere with someone who loves as much as she does.

ALMOST IS NEVER ENOUGH
date: february 27, 2017
time: 1:39 am
location: maeve’s house
open: @maevepetre
She doesn’t drink–not like this. With her head propped up on one hand and the other wrapped loosely around an empty glass, Catherine hardly looks like herself. The woman’s usually clear azure eyes are glazed over and less than alert; her movements are delayed as if it takes her just a few more seconds to truly grasp what’s going on around her. She rarely searches for solace at the bottom of empty shot glasses, but desperate times call for desperate measures; what began as a simple round to build up her courage became rounds to muddle her mind, to delay the inevitable.
She hasn’t spoken to Maeve Petre in what feels like years. The last conversation of substance was through stoic messages that ended with an apology (and Cat still doesn’t know if it was one she deserved). Since then, sparse exchanges garner halfhearted responses; Catherine occasionally asks about the younger soldier’s father and (whether it be out of genuine concern or politeness, she doesn’t know) Maeve asks about Regina. They’ve hardly discussed much of anything else, and certainly not themselves.
When the barkeep moves to refill her glass, she shakes her head and slowly pushes it away–a telltale sign that she’s had more than enough. Cat doesn’t know how much she’s had but knows if she drinks anymore she’ll struggle even more trying to get to her destination (if at all possible). Sliding from her stool with a mumbled display of gratitude to the man, the youngest Daly leaves her money next to her glass–too much for what she’s consumed, but he has been good to her all night–and exits the seedy bar.
Catherine doesn’t exactly know how she remembers the way to the Petre house (it’s painfully obvious that she can make it there in any state of mind), nor does she care. She stumbles and the palms of her hands slam against the door in a weak attempt of catching herself. "Passerotta," Cat drawls slowly, forehead pressed against the cool door, "can we talk? Mi manchi terriblmente." I miss you terribly. Ironically, the words roll easier from her drunken tongue now than they have in weeks. Her hand balls into a semblance of a fist and she tries--really, she tries--to knock on the door as she continues, "Are you home, cara mia?"

1) Okay, I'm late (bc rl sucks), but I'm back and I'll gradually address everything. "Also do not feel any pressure to respond to my multiple essays! I understand completely!"The same goes to you, bc I feel like I'm bothering you too much. That being said, I truly enjoy talking to you. Not only you offer fresh/perceptive insights into the characters' minds (which made me a. reconsider scenes and motives, b. wanna rewatch S1 --some scenes you're commenting on are SO fuzzy in my head-- mind you,
2) 2) I’m already rereading the book), but you also provide such hilarious, sarcastic lines (some of them are absolute killers).
3) personalities” I know you have an inkling of who’s who. :D But damn, that ‘lesbianing’ bit had me giggling. Kudos, fellow anon. Since we’re on the subject, I have another question about your fic (if you don’t mind): is it post s2 or s1/s2 canon divergent? b) “Add horrid fangirls to that and it’s a big ass no lol.” Ugh. Fandom smh manages to sour my opinion of characters/ships/series I personally like. Especially when fans start pestering the creators to cater to their whims or harass actors
4) or start ship wars. Double ugh. c) “So, that’s the Mass Effect connection!” Two more similarities: i. Mass Effect’s Miranda Lawson got a lot of fandom hate back then (even though she was a famous character), just like Serena. ii. She has a back-and-forth, bickering (hateful but not THAT complex) relationship with another female character. d) “I have seen Westworld! Well, okay, just the first season. I got too tired/confused to get past the 2nd season premiere.” Oh, sorry. I shouldn’t have
5) assumed. Believe me when I say it’s a good thing you stopped watching when you did. The overall quality of the series remained pretty much the same (e.g. acting, cinematography, direction), but, oh boy, some new plot twists (which I usually like) are SO OVER THE TOP in order to impress (?) the audience. It’s reached a point where some characters are unrecognizable, bc they’re servants to the plot. Maeve has a lot bigger arc in S2 and Newton is thriving (imo, S2!Maeve >> S1!Maeve), but so is
6) Strahovski/Serena. :D e) “don’t go around bitching at people who say shitty things or stuff I don’t agree with, or blocking anybody who doesn’t like her."Ah, another thing we have in common. There were times I’ve been blocked by fandom people (with beautiful edits) that I NEVER interacted with (except for maybe reblogging from each other). That’s not me complaining. Like I said, each to their own.I just find this phenomenon funny at times. Story time. Once, an out of nowhere anon (whose msg I
7) didn’t publish, bc drama is SO not my thing) said they’d block me, bc of an uploaded gifset for a canon pairing (which wasn’t to their taste apparently) that was tagged as #[series]edit (although the ship!portmanteau was right there, too, so that people could easily block it). I remember being like: "Okay. Good for you, anon!” LOL. f) “I dunno if you see spoilers but there’s one about them.) She needs therapy so much more than a cutesy feelgood storyline.” I did NOT actually, but feel free to8) enlighten me.
——–
I am sort of back! (RL does get in the way of incredibly lengthy essays about fictional TV shows!) NO APOLOGIES NECESSARY!! I am just so happy I get to read all these excellent thoughts, analyses, and feelings you have! (and that we clearly share lol, including the sheer amusement of your writing!). I really want to write more at the mo but my hands are doing that weird old lady thing where you can see the veins popping out and it makes me v uncomfortable to look at. Especially since I have little baby hands. I hate it.
Ok, I’m now kneeling on the floor and the computer is on the kitchen island. This is better. I cannot see the top of my hands.
SO. Where was I? OW. my kneeeessss. This is a bad idea.
I’m so lost. Fic question. right. It’s post-S2. Like… quite post-S2. I didn’t even deal with HOW or WHY June is back in the Waterford’s house tbh cos I can’t be bothered to sort that out. (Thanks, show.) So, it just assumes that for some reason, she’s back. Which, if the BTS pics/video is to be believed, that’s the case anyway.
Fangirls (and boys ofc) ruin so much for me. Even if I like the same thing initially. Ugh. Then sometimes they’ll annoy me so much that I end up liking the complete opposite of what they like. Dunno why.
No worries about Westworld! It’s a reasonable assumption! Please don’t apologise, my friend. I do agree that Thandie was very good in S1. IIRC, her character was my fav (other than Clementine lol). Yvonne S2 was just next level shit to me. Like, what you’re saying makes me wanna give S2 WW another shot but when shows get overcomplicated, they’re not much fun anymore when I’m like “BUT WHAT IS HAPPENING LOL”.
>> “There were times I’ve been blocked by fandom people (with beautiful edits) that I NEVER interacted with (except for maybe reblogging from each other)”
EXACT SAME. It was actually in THT fandom most recently lol. Like, I reblogged one of their pretty edits once. Ever. I didn’t even say anything snarky or bitchy or rude in tags. I don’t think I added any commentary at all. Next thing I know? BLOCKED. Never interacted with them in any way whatsoever. (Typical N/J fangirl lol.) It’s the strangest behaviour and it’s that kind of thing that sours me towards sects of fangirls, and sometimes even the characters they like. Maybe that’s just petty but I think it actually just reinforces pre-existing feelings I had towards the character or pairing.) The only blogs I block are ones that are gross, RP, or spam. (RP blogs is a long history of them stealing and spamming and adding awful commentary to my posts way back in the day, so I just… block em. lol.)
>> “they’d block me, bc of an uploaded gifset for a canon pairing (which wasn’t to their taste apparently) that was tagged as #[series]edit (although the ship!portmanteau was right there, too, so that people could easily block it). I remember being like: “Okay. Good for you, anon!” LOL.”
Oh. My… WHAT. There’s a very odd sense of entitlement here that seems so peculiar to me. Like, that’s what the blacklisting feature is for? I’ve put every version of my most despised pairings, characters, etc. and it works? Very rarely does it miss on. I guess we’re just dramaphobic, mature old fandom farts. Like, “Kids, let me sit you down and tell you about this site before you could block things. Before even XKit was invented…” Not to mention every other website ever lol.
HOLY GROSS… I just got up and a centipede fell off me!! WHYYYYYY. THIS IS WHY I DON’T SIT ON THE FLOOR. (we live near the beach/woods so we get lots of bugs no matter how clean we are…) no more painful kneeling for me i guess…
OKAY. Spoilers. It’s not much but other than the June in Martha costume (which was shown in the teaser Superbowl trailer anyway by now)… there were set pics of Emily, Sylvia, Nicole, and Luke all happy and smiling. IIRC. I can’t find the post anymore. So it may not have been in character. But I dunno… it all seems… too easy? Like, I’m glad Emily is safe but omg. She’d better not be all hunky dory “I stabbed a lady and threw her down the stairs, murdered another, and ran a dude over with a stolen car, but now I’m Canada, I’m all healed!” (Not including the heart attack/crotch kicking here cos that was fair play to Emily. She deserved that.) Like, honestly, as much part of me was like YESSSS at all of those, still… that’s grievous bodily harm with intent to kill, flat out murder, and vehicular manslaughter. For Emily to do those things, you don’t do those crimes without being really broken and damaged. And… yeah. That doesn’t magically disappear when you hop over a border.

📚 *FIQUE SABENDO...*

❝ we are not the first who with best meaning have incurred the worst. ❞
-cordelia
king lear act v, scene iii
basic information
FULL NAME: catherine elisabeth daly PRONUNCIATION: cath-rin // ih-liz-uh-beh th // dey-lee MEANING & REASONING:
catherine (origin: france // meaning: pure, clear, innocent)
the last of the daly girls was the biggest surprise: tiny at birth (smaller than regina and grace) with bright blue eyes and hair of gold--the perfect contrast to her sisters. her parents were enthralled, her sisters were less so (because she was just another undeserving person to steal the attention, the gifts, the fawning). her gentle disposition earned her a loving nickname of principessa from her father and golden-girl from her sisters, but all was good for the mild-mannered catherine.
elisabeth (origin: greece // meaning: devoted to God; God is satisfaction)
she’s loved the cathedral for as long as she can remember, long before she learned of the underground business that runs rampant when the capulets think God is not watching. silly capulets, God sees all. even still, the place is still holy to her. her family’s pew (more hers now than ever) still gives her fond memories: sitting on her father’s lap with a grin or a head bowed fervently in prayer or asking for God’s forgiveness when she did wrong.
(Father, forgive me.)
daly (origin: ireland // meaning: one who is present at the assemblies; counselor)
catherine’s the angel on the shoulder to some, a pesky fly on the wall to others. regardless of how she’s viewed by her fellow capulets, she is ever-present (lest her absence be taken as an act of dissent) and always alert, always absorbing information that could be of some use later on. they may not think she always deserves to be in the room where it happens, but the littlest daly is as proud as she is determined; she’s hellbent on always trying to get her voice heard.
NICKNAME(S): santa, cat, daly three (by tiberius capulet), kitty-cat (by grace daly), catrina (by mikael falco), kitten (by easton craven), principessa (by louis daly), colomba (by valentina gallo) PREFERRED NAME(S): catherine, cat BIRTH DATE: march 7, 1998 AGE: 20 ZODIAC: pisces GENDER: female PRONOUNS: she/her ROMANTIC ORIENTATION: biromantic SEXUAL ORIENTATION: bisexual, though she leans more towards the heterosexual end of the spectrum NATIONALITY: italian ETHNICITY: irish-italian CURRENT LOCATION: verona, italy LIVING CONDITIONS: incredibly comfortable; catherine has a home penthouse-apartment along one of verona’s most-coveted locations. she’s amassed a rather telling collection of decor that attests to her taste and who she is TITLE(S): la santa di verona, soldier
background
BIRTH PLACE: verona, italy HOMETOWN: verona, italy SOCIAL CLASS: upper middle class/upper class EDUCATION LEVEL: completion of upper secondary education (comparable to a university-prep school) at age 18; here, she focused on interior design FATHER: louis daly MOTHER: simona daly (née: moretti) SIBLING(S): grace daly, regina daly BIRTH ORDER: third CHILDREN: n/a PET(S): n/a for now, as she’s actively deciding what breed of dog she wants OTHER IMPORTANT RELATIVES: catherine considers the following to also be important family members--theodora moreau, bellamy santo domingo, maeve petre, easton craven, valentina gallo (in no particular order) PREVIOUS RELATIONSHIPS: a couple of long-term relationships while still in school which ended with not a bang, but a whimper; afterwards, short romantic flings with both men and women, though only a few ever included sexual acts ARRESTS?: n/a PRISON TIME?: n/a
occupation & income
PRIMARY SOURCE OF INCOME: capulet business; the littlest daly does what’s asked of her to the best of her abilities, and surprisingly, she succeeds enough for this to be her top breadwinner SECONDARY SOURCE OF INCOME: interior design; when she’s not involved in any underground crime, catherine is often sought out by people who need help with turning a house a home TERTIARY SOURCE(S) OF INCOME: louis capulet (which, again, is capulet money); she’s daddy’s little girl and though she’d never outstretch her hands in a display of greediness, she knows louis will make sure she remains comfortable and well-taken care of (should the need every arise, that is) APPROXIMATE AMOUNT PER YEAR: an incredibly comfortable amount; almost so much to where it’s uncomfortable for a woman like catherine CONTENT WITH THEIR JOB (OR LACK THERE OF)?: cat’s not content with her current job or the work she’s involved in, but she knows better than to be entirely ungrateful. the best way for her to reconcile her work sector and position would be to become an emissary. PAST JOB(S): babysitter; part-time secretary SPENDING HABITS: controlled and often more focused on others than herself; catherine considers herself a rather talented gift-giver and hardly bats a last at the price of things if it’s for someone she loves (because, of course, you can’t put a price on happiness) MOST VALUABLE POSSESSION: a gift from her mother, a moretti family heirloom; it is a dainty opal engagement ring passed down from generation to generation (x)
skills & abilities
PHYSICAL STRENGTH: 6/10--she’s more lithe than bulky; she is not built for war, but for civility. however, the capulets insisted on toughening her up, on turning catherine from porcelain, to ivory, to steel--to the best of their abilities, that is OFFENSE: 3/10--the saint of verona detests violence. because of this, her offensive skills are rather lacking--she certainly knows better than to get into fights unarmed (but even when armed, she’s, at most, ranked at 5/10) DEFENSE: 8/10--though she believes her strongest defense involves diplomacy, pens, and words, she’s not useless when it comes to physical defense; tiberius taught her to take hits best suited for using a pen and her words as her defense, catherine daly is, surprisingly, durable; SPEED: 9/10--cat be nimble, cat be quick; grazie a Dio for her innate speed, otherwise she’d be long gone INTELLIGENCE: 9/10--though others would vehemently say otherwise, catherine daly is a person to take note of, both in and out of violence; she’s terribly bright and quick to notice patterns in a person’s fighting style that she--if given enough time--can try to exploit ACCURACY: 5/10--practice makes perfect, but she wants no parts in being fine tuned into a machine of war; because of this stubbornness, her accuracy is lacking AGILITY: 7/10--she’s light on her feet, which is probably one of the best things she’s got going for her--from a soldier’s standpoint, of course STAMINA: 7/10--but constantly dodging and taking hits is taxing; though her stamina is much better now than it was two years ago, don’t expect her to evade her opponents every single time without exhaustion and missteps TEAMWORK: 10/10--it makes the dream work; catherine finds that she thrives in situations where she is not alone because there is always someone willing to dirty their hands with blood more so than displaying diplomacy TALENTS: creatively coming up with more civil ways of doing capulet business; it’s frowned upon, but revenue is the mob’s lifeline and she manages to pull her weight SHORTCOMINGS: aversion to fighting (armed or unarmed); bullheadedness LANGUAGE(S) SPOKEN: italian, english, conversational german, few spanish phrases (typically of endearment, only towards maeve petre) DRIVE?: yes JUMP-STAR A CAR?: barely CHANGE A FLAT TIRE?: no RIDE A BICYCLE?: yes SWIM?: yes PLAY AN INSTRUMENT?: yes; catherine learned how to play the piano as a young girl PLAY CHESS?: no; but if you’d like to play a game, she enjoys mancala and spades BRAID HAIR?: yes; now, you wonder what kinds of braids? french, dutch, fishtail, and waterfall TIE A TIE?: yes PICK A LOCK?: no

psychology
JUNG TYPE: infj - the advocate
“INFJs indeed share a unique combination of traits: though soft-spoken, they have very strong opinions and will fight tirelessly for an idea they believe in. they are decisive and strong-willed, but will rarely use that energy for personal gain – INFJs will act with creativity, imagination, conviction and sensitivity not to create advantage, but to create balance. egalitarianism and karma are very attractive ideas to INFJs, and they tend to believe that nothing would help the world so much as using love and compassion to soften the hearts of tyrants”
ENNEAGRAM TYPE: type two - the helper
“twos are empathetic, sincere, and warm-hearted. they are friendly, generous, and self-sacrificing, but can also be sentimental, flattering, and people-pleasing. they are well-meaning and driven to be close to others, but can slip into doing things for others in order to be needed. they typically have problems with possessiveness and with acknowledging their own needs. at their best: unselfish and altruistic, they have unconditional love for others”
MORAL ALIGNMENT: neutral good
“these characters value life and freedom above all else, and despise those who would deprive others of them. neutral good characters sometimes find themselves forced to work beyond the law, yet for the law, and the greater good of the people. they are not vicious or vindictive, but are people driven to right injustice. neutral good characters always attempt to work within the law whenever possible, however”
TEMPERAMENT: phlegmatic
“someone with phlegmatic personality type is usually a people person. they seek interpersonal harmony and close relationships. phlegmatic people are loyal spouses and loving parents. they preserve their relationships with old friends, distant family members, and neighbors. people with phlegmatic temperament tend to avoid conflicts and always try to mediate between others to restore peace and harmony”
ELEMENT: water
"water signs are intuitive and sensitive, and they feel more intensely than the rest. they are emotional and nurturing, and like a river, they run deep. how things feel is what matters to these folks, and they base their actions on sense, rather than on logic or intellect. water is also about compassion and understanding, since the receptive talents of these individuals are remarkably high. water sign people can take in the feelings of others, process them, and put forth a plan or solution that will be conscientious to all”
PRIMARY INTELLIGENCE TYPE: interpersonal intelligence
“you might have observed that there are certain persons who have the seemingly unique ability to get along superbly with others. these “people smart” individuals, with the use of their interpersonal intelligence, interact with others in such a way that they are able to understand and communicate well. interpersonal intelligence makes it possible for a person to effectively communicate through verbal and nonverbal means, to distinguish among others, to sense the temperament and moods of people, and to consider various points of view”

FOR YOU, A THOUSAND TIMES OVER
date: december 27
time: 1:00 pm
location: cathedral of verona
open: @maevepetre
She heard the rumors of who got away unscathed and who didn’t, but a particular name sticks out to her and makes her stomach churn: Maeve. ’Just a punch to the face--no doubt, it’ll leave a bruise but she’ll live,’ she’d been told, and while it hurt Catherine last night to hear that, it sated her for the time being--Maeve was alive and would continue to live.
However, it is not enough to quell the Daly woman’s desire to see her friend with her own eyes today. Between reporting what she’d seen, why she failed Vivianne’s simple mission, and defending her choices the night before, she hadn’t the time to visit. She’d typed dozens of text messages in her moments of downtime and erased them all; none could capture what she was truly trying to say and all seemed too impersonal to Cat. A phone call would have been better, but it wasn’t enough and she didn’t have the time to devote to Maeve. How could she apologize for what she hadn’t seen? How could she start a conversation and not finish it?
Catherine takes a deep breath and climbs the stairs that lead to the doors of the cathedral. For a moment she hesitates, knowing she risks running into the Capulet underboss and that’s the last thing she (and probably Vivianne, too) wants, but she also knows that it’s the next most likely place to see Maeve. The cathedral falls second in the likeliness of Maeve’s presence to the younger soldier’s home, but Cat couldn’t muster enough bravery to go there, mind racing with thoughts of ‘what if’--What if she doesn’t want to see me? What if she doesn’t even open the door, or she does and then slams it in my face? At least if her friend isn’t at the cathedral, Cat can try to get some sort of work done.
Finally, the worry she feels for Maeve outweighs the desire to steer clear of certain comrades. She pushes the doors open, and walks in.
That’s when Cat sees her for the first time since the masquerade. It’s just a glance–she cannot stand to look for much longer–but it’s enough for the woman who knows the other almost as well as she knows the back of her own hand. Gone is the ornate, yet befitting floral dress and its complementing mask. Gone is her friend’s usually glowing skin; the soft golden tones of her face have been marred by angry blues and unforgiving purples. Gone was the undeniable joy and hope that Cat could once see through the attire and practically feel emanating from Maeve’s entire being. It was stolen from the younger soldier the moment her friend decided to delegate the task of breaking up a fight between two men to her.
What have I done?
Catherine swallows and steels herself for what is to come when she approaches the bruised girl: an apology flying quickly (but not quickly enough) from her lips and a smile from Maeve’s. How undeserving she is to have such a friend like her. If only Maeve were a bit more self-preserving and less selfless, if only she had as fiery of a tongue as she did as big of a heart, if only she were a bit more hellbent on winning and less willing to allow the opponent to fold. Maybe that would make begging for forgiveness from Verona’s saint just a bit easier…
But that wouldn’t be Maeve, and Catherine cannot bear to handle (though she feels as though she deserves to) any more than what she already will.
The Daly woman finally musters up the courage to draw nearer to her friend. Each step she takes brings her closer to Maeve and closer to her bruise–the harsh discoloration becomes more prominent, more real, more damning. “Cazzo,” she says as an admonition to herself, voice barely louder than a whisper as the profanity spills from her usually-tame tongue. She nearly winces when she gets to Maeve’s side, and she drops her gaze to her feet. Habitually, her hands raise to give her companion’s arm a warmhearted squeeze, but she falters. Instead, she stuffs her hands into the pockets of her jeans and scrapes up enough power to level her eyes with Maeve’s. She cannot believe this has happened–no, she cannot believe this is her own fault.
It’s not enough (nor will it ever be), but she offers an apology anyway. “Maeve, I’m so sorry.” Her voice wavers and Cat swallows as if it would be enough to overpower the unbridled remorse that courses rampantly through her veins. “You’re hurt… Cara mia, what can I do? Does it feel as bad as I imagine it does?”

There are few people in the world who Catherine truly yearns to see, especially in the wake of such tragedies like the trial. With bandages wrapped around her ribcage, a bruised cheek, broken morale, and wounded pride, Catherine Daly is far from the fair-skinned and light-eyed woman that she and her sisters are typically seen as; the saint of Verona plays the part of an angel cast from God’s good graces terribly well. But, distance makes the heart grow fonder and the absence of her kindred spirit leaves her feeling even more off-kilter, more so than the debacle that happened under the dominion of the Witches.
To remedy this, Catherine works to soothe the uncomfortable beast that sits on her chest; giving into her desire to spoil herself with company, she texts Maeve Petre who, like the sweet soul that she is, agrees to come see her.
So, when her doorbell rings, she can’t help but feel a flare of joy in her chest; for a split moment, the ache she feels in in the very marrow of her bones is coddled by velvet, covered by the excitement she feels in anticipation to see her friend. The soldier hauls herself from the loveseat and moves to the door, opening it with warm blue eyes.
“Cara mia,” she breathes in relief. She has known that Maeve’s health was better than her own, but seeing it by herself makes her feel more relaxed. “It’s so nice to see you. Please, come in.” She steps aside so the other can enter.
