#c: James Proudstar | Warpath

I am re-reading X-Force: Angels & Demons and it is making me long for further development of the tentative-sort-of-friendship between Laura and James.

It's clear that James is not the stone-cold killer that Laura or Logan are capable of being, despite his commitment to vengeance for Caliban's death. He struggles to understand just how someone gets to that point, partially because he can see himself toeing a dangerous line.

The dichotomy between them is called out repeatedly in the comic, and I think that's a good thing. It's two far opposites working together while Logan, their leader, sits solidly in the middle. James and Laura are clearly learning from each other, absorbing one another's differing worldviews and squaring them with their own perceptions. It means they work together really well.

But when it comes down to it, they remain opposite sides of the same coin. Laura is about the mission, at any cost, even if that cost is the lives of people on her team. At this point in her rehabilitation, this is all she knows. And Jimmy? He can't do that. As much as he wants this revenge on the Purifiers, to be the one to enact justice, he cannot look away when a friend is in need.

TLDR; give me more Laura and James!

Can we just talk about how James literally ricochets a bottle off John's unbreakable skin in order to hit an Orchis Agent? Because it was so unnecessary but so awesome

The Proudstar Family - Thunderbird (John Proudstar), Warpath (James Proudstar) and Grandma Lozen Proudstar, are in charge of Camp Gozhoo where they shelter the mutant refugees. However, the Orchis soldiers had invaded their place and they started to harass the mutants. This prompts the Proudstar Brothers to fight off the Orchis soldiers. Also, Grandma Lozen stood up to the Orchis soldiers showing no fear as she laughs in their faces defiantly.

Ok, Some Quickfire Headcanons:

James only accepts being called 'Jimmy' by people he counts as family, blood or otherwise. If he don't know you, don't get familiar.

He's not usually self-conscious about his height, but some scenarios do make James hyper-aware of just how much of the world is not designed for someone like him. Public Transit, for example. And Elevators. The super strength is something he can consciously tone down, but it's not like Proudstar is getting any shorter.

There was a time when James considered Cable to be something... not a big brother, never that... but like a father-figure. With time and perspective (and old wounds turning to scars), he can recognize the truth, how the older Mutant used Proudstar's grief and longing for family as a convenient manipulator, to shape him into the soldier he thought he should be. Evenso, he doesn't hold it against Nathan. It might be the thing that saved his life.

James's protective instincts are a driving force to his personality. It's why, when X-Force was helping Cable save Hope Summers, and shit looked bad, Logan told James that Hope was his responsibility. Because out of all of them, Logan knew that Proudstar would always, always prioritize saving an innocent life. Regardless of the mission, of orders, of anything else, James will Protect those in his care.

Yes of course James likes NDN tacos, but don't come at him with some stereotypical bullshit, he will put your ass in the dirt.

Who owns the responsibility of avenging the slaughter of his People, equal parts haunted and guided by their spirits. Who wants a home and a community so badly that he will overlook the unforgiveable.

ㅤㅤㅤJames Proudstar, who yearns, more than anything, to be a brother again. Who will tear himself apart to save the people he cares about.

ㅤㅤㅤJames Proudstar, who cannot, will not, rest. Who doesn't want to be a Killer, but feels like he has no choice. And knows even this is a failure to the man his brother would have been.
