“He’s my brother and I want him to be happy. Please stop thinking of me and start trying with him.” In the beginning, he never would have told her to do such a thing but as he found himself developing feelings for his own future spouse, he knew that it was time to push her to Maven.

“You will. I know you will.” He offers her a small smile of his own, “Over time this will get easier and you will find yourself smiling just as easy as you did before.” As a prince he was used to putting on an act, smiling when all he wanted to do was scream.

“Years of practice.” The words are whispered in her ear as he keeps leading them in a dance across the ballroom floor.

“Thank you.” He smooths a hand down the front of his chest, “You look quite lovely yourself but that doesn't’ have anything to do with your dress.”

It was late in the night but he wasn’t able to sleep. The turns his life had taken left his mind unable to rest and he had taken to walking the halls to occupy himself. Cal doesn’t expect to see her but when he does, he grins. Things may not have gone how they wanted but he still considered her to be a good friend. “Astra. What are you doing up so late?” It’s then that he realizes that one of the many rooms down this wing was Maven’s. His smile drops and he steps away from her. “Nevermind. Goodnight.”
