I've searched literally every ask I've gotten in the past three years because I know I've said it before and I wanted to reblog it, but:

Elain is not the only person who can find/wield Dread Trove items. She never has been. The main requirement for finding Dread Trove items is being Made - it is not related to specific powers. So who is Made?

Nesta

Feyre

Amren

Miryam

Amren and Miryam's circumstances are a little different, but they were all Made if different ways - Elain and Nesta in the Cauldron, Feyre by the High Lords, Amren made herself, and Miryam... I forget and don't really care. The only reason Feyre didn't try to find the mask and harp in acosf is because she was pregnant. She is still alive and can still find/use those objects, because she is still Made. The main reason that Elain didn't try to find/wield those objects in acosf, despite offering, is because Nesta and Az prevented her.

The point is that all of these characters are Made, and are still Made, and Elain is in no way the only person who can find and/or use these objects.

That Strange Eye

So with the release of The Book of Bill and the Rock-a-Bye Billy nursery rhyme, along with the nature of Bill's homeworld and parents, people seem to have assumed that what's weird about Bill's eye is that he only has one.

We never actually see what Bill's parents looked like, just that they were coloured triangles, so their number of eyes is questionable. I've seen them drawn with two and three but never one, but that's fanart. We don't know what their faces really look like. What we do know is that Bill was the only person in Euclydia to be able to look up at the stars.

Euclydia is often compared to Flatland, which is fair, seeing as it is presented as a two dimensional world of shapes. So I think we can assume that Euclydia is a world without depth. So things can only move up and down, and left and right. When perceiving Bill, everyone in Euclydia can easily tell that he is a triangle like his parents. They would easily sense he has three side even though all they could ever possibly see of him is a line segment, assuming they can see at all.

This is where things get weird. Or, weirder. In a world without depth, it would be impossible for the inhabitants to face each other. They wouldn't know what their faces look like. They wouldn't know that Bill has an eye or a bowtie. There is no forwards and backwards, they cannot pass in front of or behind Bill to see his face. To everyone in Euclydia, everyone else is a line segment. They can only tell what colour they are, and feel each other to count the sides. So how does anyone know what eyes even are?

That aside - let's assume they can see each other's faces - Bill isn't flat. Not only is Bill not flat, his eye is round.

A flat eye cannot move much, especially in a world without depth. Euclydians would only be able to see whatever they're facing. However, if we look at Bill's model sheet and his mugshot from The Book of Bill...

Bill isn't flat!

Bill has some depth, and his eye is round.

Now, in a flat world, Bill would still be perceived as a triangle by those around him.

However, with a round eye, Bill can see into the third dimension. He can look in directions others of his kind cannot.

Bill's eye isn't weird because he only has the one.

Bill's eye is weird because it's three dimensional.

It's Bill's eye that allows him to look up, and see the stars.

Now, I could go on about the implications and metaphors of a "world without depth" and a people "without depth" and the fact both Ford and Bill are biological freaks of nature but... I don't feel like it.

Hi, Hello, I'm just popping over here cause I wanted to say, when I first got online again--I've been on hiatus for, like, 3 ish years--wanting to get back into my Levi fic writing, I stumbled across and just started en mass reading a bunch of your analysis posts as I found them because I found them really intriguing and thought provoking, and agreed with a lot of it. I'm just a bit of a shy/silent reader, though, usually, at least with analytical posts, cause I find it hard to or at least sometimes frustrating to try and properly articulate what I want/mean in more analytical/technical/evidentiary writings, otherwise I'd engage with them and the discussion more. <3 But I wanted to pop in here and say even though I'm more of the silent/shy reader with those kinds of posts, I really do enjoy reading them and they helped me shake off the rust and work on getting back into Levi's characterization after so long away from writing him, really helped with the deep character thinking required to get back in the swing of things, and I really appreciate it and love reading your takes when they come across my dash! And no worries at all about joining in or contributing to my posts. I totally understand the difficulty. I really only write my analysis posts to help me work out my own thoughts, to try and better articulate what I'm thinking. It can be incredibly difficult putting into words what you're thinking, whether it be fiction or analytical writing. I struggle big time, which is why my posts often get overly long and rambling, haha.
