Past and present cooperation between Armenia and Russia in space exploration

Today Armenia is making a lot of efforts to revive and actively participate in space exploration. Research projects of space astronomy by the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory (BAO) and the Garni Institute of Space Astronomy are being carried out.

Grigor Gurzadyan was a kind of pioneer in space astronomy in Armenia and a pioneer in the USSR. He was the founder of the Garni Institute of Space Astronomy and the creator of the ORION telescopes.

Another key personality is Norayr Sissakian. He is one of the founders of space biology and space medicine. Today we owe some new directions in biochemistry to Sissakian. His scientific idea was based on the development of gravitational biology, the study of measurement and, as a result, on the scientific principles of the selection and training of astronauts, as well as on environmental issues, the survival and safety of astronauts.

Another significant person is Andronic Iosifian, who managed to ensure the technological progress of the Soviet Union. His main achievement was his participation in the creation of rocket and space technology, in particular, electromechanical devices for rockets, satellites and spaceships. In the middle of the 20th century, the Omega satellite was developed and launched under the leadership of an Armenian scientist.
