When I saw Cotton Vitellius A.xv--the Beowulf manuscript--it was open to the passage I had memorized for my recitation day in Old English II. The one passage I could parse, fluently translate, and give you the footnotes on absolutely cold. I impressed the hell out of a docent and a roomful of tourists.
