I think the problem with the 3DS FE is that each one tried to create a new experience for the player and that is what ends up causing so much discordance between them in structure and narrative.

With Awakening the detail is that it was the last game that IntSys was going to release from the franchise and they decided to put everything on the table and say: well, this is as far as we go, let it be what fate wants.

And they did well. It's not the best story, but as a player you enjoy it and end up liking the game.

Someone commented on this before in another post, and I agree with what they said, the timeskip is not felt in Awakening and that's what bothers me the most, because how old is Lissa at the end of the game?! /j

If you take Awakening, and cut it into three unconnected pieces, that ends up being Fates. If Fates had been a single route and without the Avatar as the protagonist, it would have had the success that IntSys wanted it to have, because in the game they divide the narratives SO MUCH that in the end they don't explain anything. because I played Revelations and it was a pleasant experience as long as you skip the dialogue. (it's really funny how in Fates they tried to recreate the dynamic of the children and it went wrong)

As for Sov, at least on the Spanish side of the fandom, nobody takes the game very seriously precisely because the narrative doesn't help it. The first thing I heard about SoV is that instead of fixing bugs from the original game they only upgraded it to HD with cutscenes of certain events, and that Twilight of the Gods was the best final boss song, but if there's no narrative capacity to explain the plot holes, the narrative is going to falter A LOT (what was the cost of not making the protagonists so clumsy and reinventing the story??? They even created Berkut and Rinea for a plot that completely took a backseat).

Along with this, after SoV came 3H, and FE purists hated 3H for "not being like the other games" when what's wrong with SoV is that it's the same. oh, the irony 🫠

i agree i think while awakening is nowhere near a flawless game, it definitely earns its status as a trailblazer for where the series ended up going. and fates main problem is that it tries to replicate too much of fea's beats even if it doesn't realize why it actually worked on a narrative level. i do wish there was at least timeskip designs between act 1 and act 2 but also like, i think it mightve also done a disservice considering everyones designs r already iconic.

i dont really consider an avatar being the mc inherently the root of fates problems tbh, i think its moreso the overall story is so lackluster that it doesnt really do them any favors. i think its not even something unique to them, and i think other characters like ryoma are arguably blander. perhaps if they just let corrins conflict between nohr and hoshido be not so black and white theyd be more compelling.

i didnt really even notice any outstanding plot holes in my first run of SoV, i just think its story overall kinda flopped by the end based on it jumbling its themes and shelving celica for alm HARD, as well as majority of its characters being pretty shallow due to a criminal lack of supports and no screentime given aside from a few. its just harder to notice cuz of the better presentation and characterization

tho at the end of the day i dont hate any of these games even if fates is the worst one ive played, i was mainly just surprised at how hyped up SoV was going into it bc of its characters and writing when i honestly preferred the gameplay more by the end of it 😭

• In a universe where Anakin arrived at the newborn temple, Obi-Wan has visions of how Palpatine would control him from a young age to destroy the order, so he steals his little baby Anakin, leaves the order one night and heads to the only place where They would accept two missing children, yes, Jaster (who did not die!) so he can train Anakin in a healthy and good environment where no old politician can poke their noses.

It is a completely platonic, familiar idea full of love between siblings, Mandalorian parents and magical powers of a child in Beskar.

This young Obi-Wan, 15 and still recovering from Melida/Daan, sitting in the crèches as part of his healing when he meets this youngling. Tiny baby who cries and cries and only settles in his arms, and then the visions start. The fall of the Temple, war that he first things were memories from Melida/Daan but then realises are still to come and Ani, little Ani, being controlled and used in such a way.

He has to do something.

He has visions about Mandalore too, about Jasters death, Galidraan, all of it. Mandalore falling because with the True Mandalorians gone it’s the Sith aligned Death Watch or the pacifists who can’t fight back.

He figures 1+1 is 2, he can save Mandalore and get Anakin out of the Siths way.

Besides, no Mandalorian would dare let someone hurt a child, the Sith won’t get near Anakin with a Mandalorian parent.

Of course, Obi-Wan being Obi-Wan is only thinking about Anakin, he knows he’ll face punishment for kidnapping Anakin, he’s already on probation for leaving during Melida/Daan (it’s supposed to be to help him adjust to coming back but QGJ is lying and saying he’s deciding whether Obi will come back as a Jedi) but of course Jaster sees two kids who need a home and adopts Obi-Wan too.

He gave up everything to save a child, he saved Jaster, his son and his people, he’s been through a literal war with child soldiers and he’s suffered and how could Jaster not adopt this child too.

Jango loves having two little brothers. Jaster loves all his sons.

Palpabitch dies a horrific death at the hands of an overprotective Buir after trying to go for his kids (one to clone, one to fall and one to hurt/kill so the other will fall (or at least get out of the way so he can’t save either of the others)).

The Jedi never get close to the Sith, overprotective Mandalorians get there far sooner and obliterates the whole plan and organisation.

This is affecting me too much, but I keep going on such a wonderful experience ... Obi-Wan Kenobi cannot be Obi-Wan Kenobi without his title of 'The Negotiator' But how to win it fairly, without wars, and with a Buir like Jaster? Easy. ✨Galidraan✨ We make Galidraan happen here later, long enough for Obi-Wan to be present there and realize that it is his former Grand Master who is there with the Jedi, so, sacrificed as always, Obi throws himself into the fray. , hoping that Dooku does not attack him in between and manages to negotiate peace, without casualties on both sides. Poor Obi, now he has two adults too worried about his unnecessary but kind-hearted folly. Dooku does not say anything to the Jedi that Obi is with the Mandalorians and simply leaves, Dooku knows that Jinn must suffer for abandoning his Padawan, so he does not give him the satisfaction that Obi-Wan is safe.

Is QGJ even worried about Obi, or has he just assumed betrayal?

Dooku tells the council though, and after Obi explained his visions to Dooku, he’s presenting it as justified. The council agree.

Absolutely we get self sacrificing Obi, Jaster can’t get it out of him.

Consider, Jango and Ani are the first ones to call Obi the Negotiator. Of the three of them he takes after Jaster the best in politics, starts showing up to council meetings and court and out arguing everyone and in the end his vode start teasing him about it. He already had the nickname before Galidraan, that just solidifies it.

Also , for your enjoyment:

Obi-Wan throws himself between the two sides before the first shot can be fired, Dooku lowers his weapon just in time and only then does Jasters group arrive from a different part of the mission. He sees his son between Jetiise and mandoade and tensions have obviously deescalated and he just throws himself at his son pulling him into a desperate hug.

I most likely spent the night thinking about this wonderful AU, I really did not think you would give it importance because I did not see it as incredible as it ended up being, thank you for sharing with me the experience of this idea and everything that it triggered, I will see if I can draw more about This, I would write a fic but English is not my first language, so I have used Google translate all afternoon, so it is quite difficult for me to make a fic even if I have enough ideas thanks again for everything

Of course I gave it importance. You gave me an idea to play with, and then kept adding to it, which was brilliant but simply sending it made it important :-). It was brilliant fun.
