Reading the Harry’s testimony and it’s interesting that Harry talks about how members of the royal family start out as “blank canvases” until the media assigns a certain role for you to play based on your flaws and character traits.

And I’m just sitting here thinking, we can see them doing this to the Wales children, Louis in particular, in real time. It will be interesting to see how this evolves in the era of social media.

Nascida em Mugunghwa, Jihye era a filha adotiva de um casal homossexual, dois homens que faziam de tudo para dar todo o amor possível para sua filha desde que ela havia nascido. Ambos tinham se conhecido em Seul, mas com todo o preconceito que persiste na Coreia até os dias atuais era difícil se manter em uma cidade grande, correndo riscos todo dia, se mudar para uma vila no interior seria a melhor opção, tanto que se não tivessem se mudado não teriam adotado Jihye.

Teve o que muitos consideram uma ótima infância. Notas boas, mimos, rodeada de carinho por todos à sua volta. Seus pais sabiam que com o amor necessário conseguiriam esconder de Jihye o lado ruim do mundo, talvez não por muito tempo, mas conseguiriam. Em uma vila consideravelmente pequena a tarefa não era tão difícil quanto deveria e, mesmo que omitir informações não fosse a melhor opção, funcionou por um tempo, ao menos até Jihye chegar na adolescência.

Tudo corria bem. Amigos, família, escola, mas não era tão ingênua assim. Nunca havia perguntado o porquê de ter sido deixada por seus pais biológicos, não se importava tanto pois era feliz e sabia que a resposta podia não ser tão positiva quanto queria que fosse. Vivia até bem com aquela dúvida, pensava que ir adiando o dia da revelação podia fazer com que ele nunca chegasse, mas chegou. Por engano, acabou encontrando uma carta de sua mãe que revelava os motivos pelos quais tinha abandonado a filha e, a partir daquele dia, tentar se sentir suficiente se tornou uma tarefa difícil.

Começou a faltar na escola, as notas caíram, seus amigos foram se afastando, seus pais tentavam se aproximar mas Jihye impedia. Talvez fosse só uma fase difícil da adolescência, mas descobrir que sua mãe biológica te odeia mesmo sem te conhecer era mais que difícil para uma pessoa que foi convencida a infância inteira de que todos a amavam. Tinha tudo se tornado uma questão de aprovação.

Cresceu se esforçando para ser a melhor, tudo na tentativa de achar em si mesma o amor e validação que sua mãe não pôde oferecer. Era um sonho bobo, desgastante e ingênuo, mas ser auto suficiente tinha se tornado uma meta rigorosa a ser seguida.

Por conta de todo seu esforço, atualmente mora sozinha e trabalha no jornal local, além de ser estudante de literatura na universidade de Mugunghwa, duas coisas que fogem totalmente do que queria desde a infância e adolescência, mas sua vida está apenas começando e muitas coisas ainda podem mudar.
