Okay… I have a request..

Beast wars waspinator finding a sparkling in an abandoned escape pod. I just like the idea of waspinator as a dad and his sparkling just adores him.

Waspinator has to be one of my favorite Predacon's in the show! I'm glad someone remembers him!

Beast Wars

Sparkling bean’s beast mode is a fuzzy moth.

Waspinator has a history of having bad luck thrown upon him.

He just can’t seem to catch a break from the blaster shots from the Maximals or the constant feeling of being overlooked and being mistreated by the Predacons.

When he comes across the abandoned pod, the scan had been completed. The pod had opened with a hiss. Waspinator had raised his blaster in case whatever in the pod decided to attack him.

All he heard was soft cooing. Slowly he approaches the pod and looks inside. A little sparkling with large optics looked at him.

They were so cute!

“Wazzpinator confused. Why zzzo cute?”--Waspinator

Giggly bean noises

Waspinator is melting inside at the cute little giggles. He couldn’t leave the little guy out here. What if someone else got him? What if the Maximal’s got them?! He wouldn’t be able to shoot the little thing!

Now he is making his way to the Predacon base with his new companion. He knows that the base isn’t exactly the best place for the sparkling, but maybe this is his ticket for proper recognition by Megatron!

“Okay little Buddy. Being good for Wazzpinator. Wazzpinator needs this.”--Waspinator

Giggly sparkling noises

Turns out Megatron just acknowledged that found something to give the Predacons an edge over the Maximals and ordered Terrorsaur to bring the sparkling to the lab for Tarantulas to take a look at it.

Waspinator did not like this idea at all. Not at all. He didn’t want Little Fuzzy Buddy anywhere near that Spider! What if Tarantulas decided to dissect them? Or worse, eat them!

But they were orders… so he hesitantly gave the sparkling to Terrorsaur. The sparkling made some little clicking and whirling sounds, almost mimicking a whine. Terrorsaur made them face him.

“Such a small little pest.”--Terrorsaur

“…”--Sparkling

“Why are you looking at me like that?” --Terrorsaur

“WWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!”--Sparkling

To everyone’s surprise the sparkling started Shrieking bloody murder when they were in Terrorsaurs arms. Waspinator could bear it, and quickly took them back. As if a switch were flipped they stopped screaming and giggled looking at him.

“What is the All Spark was that?!”--Terrorsaur

“Wazzpinator don’t know.”--Waspinator

“Never mind that. Scorponok, get the sparkling, yes.”--Megatron

“All right Megatron. Come here little guy.”--Scorponok

“WWWWAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!”--Sparkling

“Never mind take them back!”--Scorponok

Once again, they started screaming until Waspinator held them again. After everyone regained their hearing again, Megatron appointed Waspinator to oversee the sparkling. He doesn’t fight or complain about his new job, in fact he gets a bit happy that Little Fuzzy Buddy isn’t going to leave him.

Now that Waspinator is overseeing the sparkling, he is going to do his best for this sparkling.

Constantly keeping an eye on them. He knows that the Predacons should not be trusted and doesn’t want the sparkling to grow up with them being their top influence.

“Buddy! Buddy! NO DO NOT GOT INTO THE VENT!!”--Waspinator

“Buddy eats fuel please? Please for Wazpinator?”--Waspinator

“Wazpinator is taking Buddy out of base for a bit today.”--Waspinator

He does try to get them out of the base from time to time. Usually saying that he was teaching them the ways of the Predacons.

“Yes. At least their someone here that still believes in the Predacons cause. Yes, the future is bright.”--Megatron

Meanwhile Waspinator and Buddy are bird watching out in the fields.

He works hard to make sure he has enough time to give to the growing sparkling. Especially when the sparkling made their first transformation into a fuzzy moth.

“Yes! Yes! Yes! My baby izzz flying!”--Waspinator

Sudden realization that he has become a parent hits.

He hates going on patrol and leaving them behind in the base. Yes, there are other Predacons that look after them when he is gone, but that still doesn’t make him feel any better. Honestly would rather have the Maximals looking after them. And has considered it.

Lucky for him though after the first 3 times of the others looking ab=after the sparkling, it was decided that Waspinator not leave the sparkling until they grew out of the habit of screaming.

“Oh thank the Primes the screaming has stopped!”--Tarantulas

“Wazzpinator here!”--Waspinator

“Take it! Take the spawn of Unicron out of here!”--Terrorsaur

“Well, thatz not very nice thing to say to Fuzzy Buddy.”—Waspinator

The sparkling had reigned down their terrifying shrieks on any unsuspecting Predacon within a 10 feet radius.

As the sparkling gets a bit older and Megatron slowly becomes more deranged, he does eventually come across a crossroad. To stay in the Predacon ranks, continuing to live in fear and pass that on to his kid. To become neutral and risk both sides to fire on him, or worse his sparkling. Or to defect over to the Maximals.

“Wazzpinator creator now. Wazzpinator wants to be a Maximal now.”--Waspinator

“What?”--Optimus

“Where Wazzpinator put bags?”--Waspinator

Confused Gorilla noises

It ends up with him defecting to the Maximals. Dinobot had vouched for his former teammate and bought his sob story and wanted a better life for his kid. While everyone was weary of him at first, thinking this being a trick, they eventually relaxed and got to know their new teammates. This makes Waspinator very happy.

Finally, a place that he knows this sparkling won’t be in danger every minute.

He still can’t believe that once upon a time he didn’t have them in his life. Counts his lucky stars to being able to have them here.

Maybe this was a way the universe was apologizing to Waspinator for all the years being in the Predacon ranks.

finally able to post this zine piece i did for the @primitivebeastszine way back in july earlier this year! i'm still very proud of how it came out, as it was my first ever zine piece, even if i feel i've improved a lot since then. i'm so thankful i was able to be a part of the mod team, and a contributor, watching this zine come to life has been absolutely unreal. although i played a small part, i'm so proud of the team and all those who contributed! 💜💜

Bot Buddy the single parent with Optimus Primal, Rattrap, and Silverbolt

Buddy needed a break. They had been running on fumes for the past couple of days. From the stress of the Predacons to their regular duties as a parent and teammate, everything was becoming too much. And if they didn’t do it soon their team was going to have an intervention. They didn’t want to go through that one again like last time.

But the world doesn’t stop when one is a single parent. Luckily, they had help.

Optimus Primal

The second-best babysitter on this list.

He has a calming effect on the sparkling so they don’t cause too much trouble.

Primal while he is the leader of the Maximals, he also wants to help the others when they need it.

He is glad that Buddy has finally decided to take a break, he is more than welcome to take care of the sparkling.

“Are you sure that this isn’t a problem? I could always ask Silverbolt.”--Buddy

“Yes, ask Silverbolt!”--Silverbolt

“No, you’re on patrol duty today with Blackarachnia—”--Optimus

“Never mind, patrol duty it is!”--Silverbolt

“Anyways, thank you Primal. I’ll see you in a little bit.”--Buddy

“Take your time Buddy, we are here to help.”—Optimus

If the sparkling is restless, there is a good chance that Primal will bring them on a small trip outside the base in his jetpack. That always gets the kid giggle and tuckered out.

As the sparkling gets tired Primal will hold them close to his chassis as he continues doing his work. More than likely the sparkling falls asleep with a death grip on the leader’s arm.

Primal refuses to move the little one so he finishes the rest of his work with one arm.

When Buddy comes back to take the sparkling Primal tells them that they weren’t trouble and to remember that if Buddy does need to take another break, he and some of the others are more than willing to help Buddy out.

“Thank you again Primal. I hope they weren’t that much trouble.”--Buddy

“Not at all, and remember don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it, okay?”--Optimus

“Noted Primal and thanks.”—Buddy

Rattrap

He is the last on the list. Not that he is the worst though, he is a good babysitter. One of the best on the team, he just falls short on this list.

The only reason he volunteered to babysit was to make sure Buddy was rested enough so he didn’t have to go on patrol with Dinobot again.

That’s the story he tells everyone at least.

He is glad Buddy understands their limitations and is willing to help his pal.

“Now while I like the Tike and all, why me? Why not ol’ lovesick puppy over there?”--Rattrap

“Yes—”--Silverbolt

“Silverbolt you are recovering from that ambush from yesterday. There is no way I’m letting the little one potentially undo your progress.”--Buddy

“But—”--Silverbolt

“No ‘but’s’ Lover boy. Now give me the kid.”--Rattrap

Now Rattrap knows that smaller bots can cause a ton of trouble. He has caused the Predacons tons of helmaches from his antics. So, he is preparing for the sparklings arrival. The sparkling keeps him on his toes the entire time he is playing with them.

When the sparkling gets tired Rattrap, after he makes sure no one is watching, rocks the sparkling back and forth until they fall asleep.

Rattrap takes this time to catch some z’s himself.

Does the sparkling escape his grasp while he is taking a nap? Yes, yes, they do.

But he made sure that his room was sparkling proofed and had a silent alarm that would alert him of the sparklings movements. He is up and ready to catch the little one.

When Buddy comes back to get the sparkling, Rattrap has most of the sparklings this ready. He keeps some of the stuff in case he has to babysit again. He makes sure to tell Buddy to let the little tike take a nap before babysitting duties again.

“The kids gonna be a natural escape artist when they get older.”--Rattrap

“Part of me hopes not.”--Buddy

“Yeah… but I do have the placed decked with cameras if that gives ya something to think or something...”--Rattrap

“Thanks Rattrap. I mean it.”--Buddy

“Yeah, yeah, don’t get soft on me. You owe me some patrols to make up for the one’s with Scalebelly.”--Rattrap

“Sure thing.”--Buddy

“I am right here!?”--Dinobot

Silverbolt

He is number one on this list.

He is ready for the sparkling.

Silverbolt almost takes the sparkling from Buddy’s servos when they ask him for help.

“Hey Silverbolt, do you mind looking after—”--Buddy

“FINALLY—I mean of course!”--Silverbolt

Silverbolt has everything ready for the sparkling.

They want to play a game? He knows the sparklings top 3 games they like to play.

They want to get out of the base for a bit? He already knows the perfect places to fly around.

They want a story? How about the time he met Blackarachnia for the first time, that one always puts the to sleep.

When the sparkling does start falling asleep, he has his room with soft blankets and pillows for the sparkling to take their nap while he watches them vigilantly. That sparkling is not leaving that room without him knowing.

When Buddy comes back to take the sparkling, Silverbolt is laughing with the sparkling who is in a mini carrier strapped on his chassis. For the sake of both, Buddy takes a longer break.

“Hey I’m back—”--Buddy

Silverbolt and the sparkling laughing and just having a great time before noticing Buddy in the room.

“…I don’t want to spoil the fun, but if you want to have them for a bit longer—”--Buddy

“YES—I mean if you don’t mind.”--Silverbolt

“Not at all. I think I could go for a longer break.”--Buddy

Thrill of the Hunt

There are different ways to teach a young beastformer how to hunt and every struggle that can come from it.

Take Dinobot, for example, sharp movements confusing his prey while he is only a distraction, searching out to the point Talon is supposed to emerge from, only to see the young bot jump before he was supposed to do so, startling the prey, his strange human form changing a bit to show his cybertronian frame, no sharp dentae or big claws to help, being easily ran over by the bigger prey and sustaining heavy physical damage, Dinobot doesn't cease his pursuit, looking at the sparkling for a second and even hitting him with his tail before disappearing in the vegetation, "Talon! Get back on your pedes and show the endurance of a warrior!" Talon can only try to get his face out the dirt, seeing his leg looking backwards, some wires are poking out, energon leaking in drops, still hearing Dinobot scream out to him to hurry up and return to the chase if he wants to eat something by the end of the day, Talon can only inhale deeply and close his optics, praying to Primus to help him guide his hand to try what he is thinking because the last thing he wants is to bleed to death, putting his servos on his pede before twisting it back, the whole jungle hearing metal being crushed and his shout of pain, some flying bots get startled by it.

Dinobot is hard with Talon because he cares, how is your sparkling going to survive if he doesn't teach him to hunt by himself?! Talon just wanted to go foraging that morning, now Dinobot has to search for a healer.

Take Cheetor for another example, looking at his sparkling, already a grown bot, such a big one while at it, he is quite bored if he is being honest, but it's obvious that speed isn't for Viperus, who likes to settle in a hidden place underground, he takes on his sparkling's preference, but when he sees the prey in front of him it's so hard to keep down, "When you see the prey you must act upon it fast, Viper!" It's what the great snake beastformer hears before he sees his sire run to the prey, snarling and also launching himself out of his hideout, using his massive tail to almost jump in the air, it's a great surprise to Cheetor just how big his sparkling is, big enough to open his intake and chew him and the prey together in one motion, Viperus has to stop, think for a moment and the next he is taking the cheetah out of his body, throwing up, "What in the pit, dad?!" Cheetor is drenched in drool, still, he looks at the prey next to him, then at Viperus, putting both of his paws on the big snake's face with a smile on his soft face while showing some sharp dentae, "You did a good job, Viper!" Cheetor let's his son take his bipedal form, two times bigger than him, and take the fruits of the successful hunt back home to you.

Cheetor is always supportive of Viperus in any way he can be, almost being a hyperactive cheerleader, Viper is just waiting for a prey to appear and his father to disappear because he wants to keep a mysterious guy persona.

Optimus, for a change, is an omnivore, he is happy to hunt sometimes to provide for his people, the younger ones taking on prey to keep growing stronger, but he prefers to simply consume fruit and some leaves rich in energon, Toshio isn't a beastformer and more than once Optimus has been worried for his son, how can he survive in Eukaris? Still, he doesn't give up, if there is something that Toshio has taken from Optimus is his will to improve and keep on, using tramps in order to catch prey and many other tools his father has taught him how to use and do, some tribe members are surprised when the whole hunt party returns empty handed and Toshio comes back alone and with little prey on his back, edible and medicinal plants on his hands that he dries under the sun, "I'll cook something later" he tells to the bots looking at him with surprise, later on sharing what he has caught equitably, Optimus can only laugh at his kid's actions and accept what he has recollected for him too, thinking once again that Toshio is going to be a great tribe leader in the future.

Optimus looks at Toshio with pride, something he knows you would also share if you were with them.
