Hip replacement surgery? I have known that total hip replacement surgery is in my future. I have already had 4 surgeries on my hip to repair my labrums. I am beyond thankful to have a doctor that understands #ehlersdanlossyndrome he spends a great amount of time answering the questions I have as well as bringing up questions I haven’t thought of before. Last time he showed me the different styles of hip replacements & why a certain one works better for people with EDS. We discussed the possibilities of it popping out of socket, how to properly sit, what the risks are with time and why they need to be replaced, the length of time of recovery, the percentages of success and the approach. The approach was the most fascinating to learn about & if one way is better than the other. There is an anterior approach that is supposed to help healing faster. The other is the posterior approach which is the one he performs. After my own search and reading medical journals the bottom line between which approach is best is whichever one your surgeon is most comfortable to do and how many has your surgeon performed successfully. I have not taken this surgery very lightly and it’s been something I have been pushing off because it is removing something that is already in there now but is failing. It’s just with the elasticity it slowly wears down the joint. It has now become a quality of life.
