So after seeing that last reblog again I was curious and started looking into silvers modern uses and boy did I find some interesting things
To start the rules have changed. Alloys are far more common now than way back when so we have to account for the fact that most silver used now is not 100%.
If we assume that vampires cant interact with silver even as an alloy then we can rule out the possibility of them being able to use batteries, many tools, and really anything with a circut board. We love to use silver in electronics.
Alright then our modern vampire is a weirdo who lives in the woods and hates phones, not too out of the ordinary really.
But heres where it gets far more interesting because turns out silver has some anti-microbial properties making it indispensable for medical professionals. From their tools to bandages to a variety of medications hospitals (and dentist offices) are very dangerous places for vampires. Its a good thing theyre immortal.
It could be worse though, just dont break a leg (x-rays use silver in the exposure process) and youll be fine as a modern vampire, you can probably have a house in the woods with like a solar panel right? WRONG
Silver is used in solar energy (as a light senitive metal, the same reason its used in film photography!) and water filtration AND used to preserve wood! Meaning that not only is filtered water out of the question but so is any electricity and treated wood.
But vampires dont need water, and they can build their own house they got time and super strength. Maybe theyll even make tools without silver. They can still function in society.

Silver’s anti microbial uses extend beyond the medical feild and into textiles! “anti sweat” or “anti odor” clothing is often infused with nano particals of silver as they do not allow bacterial growth (what causes body odor). Since the 90s its become faily popular in clothing. Since vampires dont sweat i dont see them buying these but some studies suggest that the nano particals can escape in laundry and such, meaning its like a person allergic to cats being around people covered in cat hair all the time. Do they avoid drinking the blood of avid runners? (but its used in laundry detergent too so...)
All told this seems to bode pretty badly for the vampires... which begs the question, do we not see vampires today because they never existed or because we accidentally wiped them out with electricity?
