Enhance Your Vehicle: Choosing the Right Power Jack for Car Maintenance
The market for hydraulic jacks is enormous, so one has plenty of choices of portable jack for car. Basically, hydraulic jacks are useful mechanical devices eventually used to lift up heavy loads. No matter where you wish to lift a car or any other vehicle, change its tires, lift up industrial heavy loads, or fit cranes, a branded hydraulic jack must be your first and foremost choice.
Along with that, hydraulic jacks are also used in lifting platforms or as material handling equipment. And as the application of portable jack for car is innumerable, its demand is also huge. But before you decide to buy a portable jack for car, you need to have complete information and knowledge about the same.

Factors to consider before Hydraulic Jack!
Indeed, before you decide to buy a power jack for car, there are a few significant points that you must remember. You can simply look at the pointers, which will ultimately help you set a quick set of parameters to recognize before buying a portable jack for car.
Keep a check on the pointers to keep in mind before proceeding to buy a hydraulic jack. Have a look!
The price point
Probably, this is the most obvious point to remember, and that is the price. It is a significant point as it is the price which determines the quality of the jack. However, before you do decide to buy one, there are a few things that you must ask yourself, such as how much you wish to spend on the machine and what is the exact purpose for which you have been planning to buy this product. The price range will vary, but that certainly wouldn't mean that less expensive will be unproductive, so a comparison study on the different parameters before buying is critical.
The weight capacity
A hydraulic jack weight lifting capacity is probably the most highlighted point. The hydraulic jack's weight capacity is the exact amount of weight jack can lift, and the value is generally expressed in tons. Indeed, it is a fact that Hydraulic jacks do come in various weight capabilities. And so, there are a few factors to consider before you choose a hydraulic jack with a specific weight capacity.
The usage & functionality of the product
Another significant point is that you must have an idea about the kind of hydraulic jacks. There are different hydraulic jacks, such as scissor jacks, hi-lift jets, motorcycle jets and trolley jacks. Amongst the list of jacks, you must choose one that suits your requirements and is perfect for you.
Thus, different jacks are designed differently depending on the kind of car they will be used for. So, one needs to consider the weight of objects and whether it's multifunctional.
It is possible that you just want to buy a single hydraulic jack and make it work for different cars or equipment, so it is essential that the jack must be multifunctional, or else buying jacks individually for different purposes might be expensive for you.  So, the usage and functionality of the product are another point to remember.

Lifting Range and capacity
One must briefly compare the lifting Range and capacity of the hydraulic jack. You can simply compare the strokes and maximum height for the bottle jack just by keeping a check on the steps on the piston. You can simply measure the space that is available just below the car and then instantly compare the value against the height dimensions of the hydraulic jack.
Warranty
Sudden breakdown of machines is very common, and so it keeps on seeking repair, maintenance and servicing from time to time. However, buying branded, trustworthy, reliable and genuine machines would ultimately ensure a decent manufacturer's warranty. Ensuring a warranty for a more extended period is also a sign that the manufacturer is already sure that the quality of the product is extremely high.
Applications of Hydraulic Jack
There are plenty of applications of Hydraulic Jack. One can use a power jack for car for different purposes, and is stated here:
Effortless lifting of a car or any other vehicle to instantly change its tires
Easy and quick lifting of heavy loads in industries
One can also use it as a material-handling equipment
Instant fitting of cranes with the help of a Hydraulic jack
It is also used in lifting platforms
Hydraulic Jack has plenty of advantages, and a few of them are stated here:
It occupies less space
It is amazing when it comes to lifting heavy loads
Lifting of loads with minimum effort
Easy and simple to use
Lighter than screw jacks
So, here are a few significant factors to remember before you decide to buy portable jack for car, and you must have a look at it. Hopefully, going through this blog might have helped you in gathering the insights of hydraulic jack.

a football jersey for the frat boys au!
A FOOTBALL JERSEY.
oh jealous bucky my beloved. we don't get a lot of viv with other guys in mainverse hence the delight of AUs. and also tailgating. thank you for the prompt, friend <3
“You’re real good at that,” Bucky remarks sagely, leaning up against the plastic folding table and at least halfway into Buck’s personal space. Buck only looks at him momentarily before he’s flipping the burgers on the portable grill.
“Yeah? That’s why you’re hovering?
“Well somebody’s gotta be the taste tester. Y’know, make sure it’s all good for the girls.” Buck rolls his eyes, pressing a hand into Bucky’s shoulder to push him a bit out of his personal space, half-hearted in the gesture.
“You mean callin’ dibs?”
“Well when you put it like that it makes me sound greedy.”
“You are,” Benny remarks as he places the stack of paper plates on the table, next to it the cooler full of beers. “They’re not gonna grow legs and walk away Bucky, Jesus Christ. Come help me set up the chairs.” He already sounds bewildered and Bucky can’t help but find the slightest bit of amusement in that. In his defense, he’d gone out with Harry to buy the groceries and hadn’t eaten all day. So maybe he was calling dibs — but it was a hard earned, hard fought dibs.
Buck pokes him once more, this time with his elbow.
“Go make yourself useful,” he declares, like a dad telling his kid to run along. Bucky makes a show of it, sighing languidly as he peels away from his perch, hears Benny half-heartedly calling him a jackass as he hops up onto the landing of the truck bed and reaches over for the first of the folding chairs.
“Speaking of,” Bucky starts as he shakes the first from the fabric case. “Where’re the girls anyway?”
“June said they were pulling in a couple minutes ago,” Benny does a quick scan of the parking lot, other tailgaters wrapped up in their own music and company. Bucky nods, sets up the chair then grabs another.
“And Jack?”
“With a friend I think, said he’d meet us before heading in.”
“A friend?”
“The girl he met during summer classes,” Benny reminds him, and Bucky makes a quiet ‘ah’ noise. The one they had yet to meet, because Jack is, well, Jack. Sometimes he acts like their frat president and other times he acts like he’s running a covert ops mission whenever he leaves the house. All it does is pique Bucky’s curiosity further about who this is , but he’s not about to start weaving through cars looking for the guy.
“Nothing’s sacred anymore, Benny,” Bucky declares dramatically once they have the other chairs set up, throwing himself into one of them as Benny chuckles and Dougie snorts from across the circle, fiddling with the speaker and his playlists like a man on a mission. Benny places his hands on his hips and takes another survey of the parking lot like he’s king of the hill or something, before his whole face lights up and he’s hopping down. Bucky twists his body to look back as Fern raises her hand to wave — her smile, bright, flaming hair pulled back with a green and white bow for their school colors.
“Got the second case,” June announces, gesturing to the other case of beers in her hands that Benny takes from her quickly.
“You’re a godsend,” Benny declares, going to take the secondary case from her. He lands a chaste kiss on her lips, smiling at her and regarding the rest of them with similar friendliness. Fern flits about, greeting most of them with hugs and brushes against their cheeks.
“No Brady? Curt?” Fern asks with a slight tilt to her head. Dougie straightens up in the chair.
“What, we’re not enough for you?” He teases, making Fern scoff lightly and roll her eyes. Dougie grins. “They went to go find Croz, who’s in the bathroom. Or should be. And uh, Jack’s meeting us inside.”
“You missing somebody?” Bucky asks, knowing the answer as he takes stock of the other girls — Benny happy to sit perched on the edge of the truck bed with his arms wrapped around June’s waist, both of them talking to Harrie. Willie over by Buck and the grill.
Fern looks around like a mother counting her chicks.
“Huh. Viv said she’d be meeting us here. She said she had to come early.” Bucky raises a brow.
“What for?” Fern only shrugs, grabbing a beer from the ones they’d already put in the cooler. She looks at it and then gestures to him and Bucky nods before she grabs another and tosses it to him. He whistles low and impressed when he catches it. “They should put you in the starting lineup.”
Fern laughs brightly at that, opening her mouth to speak again.
“Hey!” Bucky’s eyes snap to the sound faster than he’ll ever admit — just enough to catch the last flashes of midriff before the familiar white of their university football team’s away jersey tumbles past, smacking Bucky with the dark green “87” on the front. Viv’s smiling brightly all the same, collarbones exposed from how the baggy fabric hangs off her frame.
“You rob the Jets locker room or something?” He asks, watching how her cheeks turn a soft shade of pink as he rises from the chair.
His face is burning too — but it’s definitely not for the same reason. He can feel Buck’s eyes trained on him like a silent reminder to behave. Viv shakes her head, reaching to rub the back of her neck.
“Nothing like that. It’s—”
“Oh my God!” Fern’s squeal is inhumane as she darts over, throwing her arms around the taller girl to squeeze and then behold her. “You didn’t tell us he gave you his jersey!”
“I didn’t think I had to.”
They’re talking to one another so quickly Bucky can hardly make sense of it. Or rather: Fern’s asking questions and only letting Viv get half the answer out. Either way, he shoves one hand in his pocket and takes a sip of his beer in the other, jaw clenching as he forces himself to look away for a moment.
It’s not like she hasn’t told him about the guy she’s been talking to; how she’d met him in late August doing tours of campus for incoming freshmen. But he also didn’t get the entire play-by-play of their interactions since. A smile at her phone, or an unknown car dropping her off were about as much as he’s ever seen the guy. Still, his stomach twists in a weird way, jaw clenching as he dares another look at her, eyes racing up and down her form in record time.
Of course, she looks good. She looks good in everything. He’d say it if the only remarks on his tongue weren’t questions about if his position was their rumored-to-be crappy kicker. Contrary to popular belief, he doesn’t like making an ass of himself.
Or, more accurately, Bucky just doesn’t like when Viv’s mad at him.
“Bucky,” Buck might as well wolf-whistle at him, an owner calling his dog back into the house. He gestures with a jerk of his head towards him and Willie, grabbing a paper plate. “You called first dibs, didn’t you?”
He makes his way over, and judging by the look of resignation on Buck’s face — he knows Bucky’s giving him the earful on the ride home.

Let's talk about flying to pick up a puppy by yourself
And some ways to make it easier on you.
Your prep starts honestly, about a week before baby actually comes home. Maybe 2 weeks.
For my pre-flight prep, I first picked out a flight carrier. I went with the one my breeder recommended.
Tumblr media
It has expandable sides, and a little storage pocket. And it's resistant to chewing. I'm really glad I didn't buy a cheaper one, and I can't stress enough that it's cheaper to buy a quality one the first time than have a zipper break or a tear in the middle of your trip. My trip in total was 4 flights and 4 hours in the car, with him being with me for half of it and having the longest layover of my day. I could only really let him out a couple times, so this next part was incredibly helpful.
I mailed the carrier to my breeder,
at her behest. This was *huge* because the siblings got their scent on it and he was acclimated to being in it before I got to him. It acted as a secure place for him to ride in the car and for his first few nights here, he slept in there through the night.
And now that he's in his crate, the removable pad with scents on it has been instrumental in establishing the crate as a safe place for him.
Video of why I'm really glad I got the durable carrier.
Please consider what you're wearing that day.
Wear clothes you don't need to fuss with *at all* that's normal airport protocol- but I can't stress this enough, you're carrying the puppy in your arms through the TSA checkpoint and other people will be fussing over him. Make sure your appearance and personal bag is no fuss.
Tumblr media
See: jeans, hoodie, puppy treat and potty bag that can be shoved into my personal Item, and a no fuss backpack.
In my personal travel bag I kept:
Pee pads, his food from the breeder, a change of clothes in case of incidents, a portable battery to charge my phone, collapsible food and water bowls, collar and leash incase one wasn't provided, and SEVERAL toys in there.
The toys were great for waiting in the terminal. I'd expand the sides of the crate and introduce a new toy to him to help him run a bit of energy out before we had to board.
Peepads: Even though airports have animal relief areas, chances are they're either kind of gross or your dog may be a little too young for it to be safe. I was traveling through one of the busiest airports in the world, and nobody was checking jack shit so I opted for potty breaks to occur in bathrooms with pee pads. He didn't end up going but it's better to be prepared.
I flew Delta and used Skymiles accumulated from our credit card with them that we pay off monthly, so the only thing I paid for out of pocket was 95.00 to bring Argos on board. My flight only costed 20k miles total, and that was only a small portion of what we'd accumulated over the 6 months we've been using the card. I think it's worth considering if you're planning to fly to a breeder. It enabled me to go anywhere in the country that Delta flies and not worry about costs.
Day of hack: double check your flights on the airlines app and switch your seat if possible. I swapped one of my return flight seats to an empty row for 15.00, which meant I could have my carryon and him with me at the same time and that was very nice for readjusting where my stuff was and taking a damn nap. Because at this point, I'd been up for about 18 hours and still had 7 hours of traveling before I'd get home.
Tumblr media
I think my last thing is that if you're like me and you do have an invisible disability- ask if you can preboard. Dont be afraid to say "hey, i have this problem and standing in the heat while carrying a bunch of stuff is potentially going to cause an episode. " The employees were extremely nice, and willing to work with me. Ultimately, I went through all of this because he's a service dog prospect and will hopefully help.
Small things for me specifically prior: ate in the morning and right before I picked him up, he was able to chill in his carrier while I ate dinner at a restaurant in the airport- didn't make any sounds. He slept the whole time. I don't think I couldve eaten in the food court, too much to carry between him and my main bag.
I think that's it. I may add to this if I remember anything I forgot.
Edited to add: for my besties with miscellaneous illnesses-
A baggie with your medicines is IMPORTANT. Do not forget some dramamine, advil, Tylenol, whatever, pack it if there's a small chance you'll need it!
I ended up getting migraine symptoms like 5 hours into travel, and that was not a day I could afford to have blurred vision. <3 remember to take care of YOU on the journey.

i know it's all about capitalism and making us all suffer so we spend as much money as humanly possible but it's just insane how things just do not work out of the box anymore. the obvious one is how our phones don't come with headphone jacks anymore so you have to buy an adapter but also how tvs don't come with av ports so if you want to use old video game systems you have to buy av to hdmi adapters. or how cars don't come with cd players anymore so if you wanted to listen to a cd you'd have to buy a portable cd player and an aux cable or sometimes there isn't even an aux port so you have to buy a bluetooth transmitter and how buying physical video games just gets you a disc/cartridge with half a game on it and a download code for the rest of it. like nothing is complete and nothing is compatible with anything else anymore and it just gets so so soo tiring how things just do not work anymore

Wanna know how things are going? Awful!
Ok so stuff had been rotten lately. Bills I hadn’t known about kept being sprung on me. I had decided I would only buy groceries once this month, but the financial hit was still leaving me in a bad place.
Then came the broken things, so many more broken things. I got working on them, until….
On Saturday I went out to our shop to hunt a tool, only to discover thieves had been there! Two big tool boxes were gone, the rest opened and rooted through, some large things like the potato rake were gone…I even know how much they got, only the tools are critical for me. And I can’t afford to replace them. And they were my father’s, so I was attached to them. And the thieves got all the way back there, past the house and dogs, making me feel vulnerable.
So, I spent that whole day moving stuff, desperately trying to find a place to put them. I was hauling incredibly heavy tool boxes and such all over the place, which would be tiring enough, but since I hadn’t anticipated this and had planned on having wet feet in what I was going to do, I hadn’t bound up my bad ankle properly. And this reopened the wound on my ankle that had took six months to heal last time!
Today it all got worse. It was my shopping day, and all I was worrying about was having enough for everything I needed. (I wouldn’t. No kerosene for the hot water heater, so three weeks of cold showers….ugh!) Then suddenly I had a much bigger problem.
A tire exploded!
It didn’t get a leak. It didn’t go flat. It went ker-boom!
The good news is I managed to pull into a place leaving just enough space to get in and out for folks. But that car wasn’t gonna be moving.
Seeing a tire place across the nearby busy four lane road intersection I walked over for help. They aren’t allowed to help folks off the property. Sorry.
I crossed the crazy traffic and headed for another tire place. It was less than a mile (just), but felt much further in the sun and traffic.
People in a pickup pulled over to ask if I needed help. I told them what happened, and the driver said he could change the tire for me…and it wouldn’t cost me much. Yes, he offered to help me then added a bill. So no, I am not paying someone to change the tire, thanks though. They said good luck, but did not offer to give me a lift the rest of the way to the store.
I got to the other tire store. A big sign said the didn’t take checks, and since I would have to pay by check, there was no point. Not having a credit card can be damned inconvenient in this world. I walked back to the car. I was sunburned and my ankle was bleeding.
Thanks to the exploded to bits tire, the car was too low to get the jack under the place you have to use it. Still I dragged out all the freshly bought bags of animal feed and empty kerosene containers, piling them by the car, trying to think what I could do.
I called one person. They were over 100 miles away, so couldn’t help. I called another, and go no answer. I didn’t even bother to call the only other person I have to ask because their husband went into the hospital yesterday and, by freak coincidence, they can’t drive there because they got a nail in a tire with no time to fix it.
I got lucky! A couple saw me and offered to help. I don’t really like to concede defeat and let dudes get macho pride at some incompetent girly needing rescuing….but I did need help. The husband had tools I didn’t, and practice I didn’t. He had trouble, and the hubcap broke, but he got it off and got the emergency spare on on.
The spare was flat.
Of course.
Lucky for me he also had a portable air pump.
Unluckily the spare wouldn’t pump up to it’s proper pressure.
But no problem, I knew another tire store down the road. I would just get a tire….
They didn’t have any tires that would fit my car. They could get it by tomorrow morning, but until then I’d have to drive on a mini sized spare that won’t pump up properly and isn’t supposed to be driven on at the speed or distance I had to go. I told the store guy I lived 10miles away, and would that tire be okay with that and highway speeds? It will be fine, he said. Last night I got 4hrs sleep, and had planned to sleep late, but he only had a morning appointment. Oh well, it will be done early anyway.
Yesterday Mom wasn’t doing well, and got worse today. I got to worry about that in the middle of all this.
Tomorrow is supposed to be stormy. I have to drive on the crappy toy tire the ten miles back, and go to the bank to get money to buy a tire. If I have any left over I’ll get the wood shavings I need for the animals. I’ll just have to hope cold showers (YIKES!) don’t kill me, because I can’t afford any more money right now. At all.
Come on universe! Give me a little break! I’m already broke, exhausted, and riddled with anxiety and depression. You can stop kicking now!

ZOOM H5 Review
Overall, H5 appears to be a popular among Zoom Audio Recorders with many positive features, but there are also some areas for improvement based on user experiences. Here’s a summary of the feedback provided:
Tumblr media
The standard X/Y mic that comes with the recorder is very wind and pop sensitive. And the included foam windscreen doesn’t help much. If you decide on this unit, get a fuzzy windscreen. My friend bought the Zoom Audio Recorder model, it fits nicely and makes the recorder look like a smurf. Or Don King. But it does the job, and is a must for pretty much any recording, inside or out.
Positive Points
Ease of Use: Users appreciate the device’s ease of use, especially the large card slot for SD cards, bright and readable readout, and simple operation.
Audio Quality: The device offers excellent dynamic range and sensitivity, producing high-quality recordings compared to its predecessor, the Zoom H1.
Versatility: I personally find the Zoom H5 versatile due to its various attachment options, such as XLR jacks and shotgun mic, making it suitable for different recording needs.
Portability: It is praised for being a portable and durable recording device, suitable for various recording environments.
Value for Money: Many users find it to be a good value for the features it offers, especially considering its affordability compared to other options in the market.
Voice activated recording with a retroactive feature so you don’t lose the couple of seconds before the recording started.
Can look like a USB storage device when connected to a computer, so compatible with any operating system. No special drivers needed.
Threaded mount on the back of the unit works with a standard camera tripod.
Lots of customization settings, if you need them, but sensible defaults allow you to be productive right away and learn the details later.
Ruggedly built, with a solid and professional feel. I have taken it on about a dozen business trips by train, car, and plane, and have even stuffed it into checked luggage. It comes with a protective plastic shell case, which is nicely sized to the device and not overly bulky.
Areas for Improvement
Tripod Socket: Some users from amazon complain about the shallow tripod socket, which causes stability issues when attached to tripods. They suggest making the socket deeper or adding a socket nut to improve stability.
Audio Monitoring: People desire for better control over audio monitoring, such as the ability to toggle monitoring only when recording to avoid confusion.
Microphone Quality: While the device comes with built-in microphones, The quality is adequate but not stellar, especially in comparison to higher-end microphones.
Battery Life: It has a good battery life, but some people mention concerns about battery drain, especially when using phantom power or external microphones.
Menu System: Some users find the menu system a bit cumbersome due to the multitude of options, suggesting improvements in organization or user interface design.
Despite these drawbacks, the Zoom H5 Handy Recorder generally receives positive reviews for its performance, versatility, and value for money.
Who Should Buy the Zoom H5
Podcasters and Content Creators – Good for capturing high-quality audio, even on the go.
Interviewers and Journalists – Great for on-site interviews with its portable and flexible setup.
Musicians and Sound Designers – Zoom H5 will Offer multi-track recording and high fidelity, making it perfect for music production and soundscapes.
Filmmakers – Zoom H5 Can be a reliable tool for capturing professional-grade audio on location.
Who Should Not Buy the Zoom H5
Casual Users – Overkill for basic voice recording; simpler devices would suffice.
Budget-Conscious Beginners – If you’re just starting out, more affordable options may meet your needs without the steep learning curve.
People Needing Simplified Operation – The H5’s advanced features and settings can be overwhelming if you prefer a plug and play experience.
Smartphone Users – If you primarily use your smartphone for recording, investing in external smartphone mics will be a better choice
I have discussed about Zoom H6 and Zoom H4N too in my full blog. Click Here to Read the full Article

The Basics of a Tire Alignment & How to Know if You Need One
Tumblr media
A tire alignment refers to the adjustment of a vehicle's suspension, which controls the angles of the wheels in relation to one another and to the car's body. Proper wheel alignment is essential for ensuring that your vehicle handles properly and that your tires wear evenly, which can prolong their lifespan.
Types of Tire Alignment
There are three main types of alignment:
Caster alignment, which controls the angle of the steering axis when viewed from the side of the vehicle.
Camber alignment, which controls the angle of the wheels when viewed from the front or rear of the vehicle.
Toe alignment, which controls the angle at which the wheels point in relation to the centerline of the car.
When your car is properly aligned, all of these angles will be set to the manufacturer's specifications.
Signs That Your Vehicle Requires A Tire Alignment
There are a few signs that your car may need a tire alignment, including:
-Uneven or rapid tire wear
-Steering wheel vibration or pulling to one side
-Crooked steering wheel when driving straight
-Squealing tires
If you notice any of these symptoms, it's a good idea to have your alignment checked by a professional mechanic. They will use specialized equipment to check the alignment of your wheels and make any necessary adjustments.
Also, it's good practice to have your alignment checked when you get a new tire and or changes suspension components, or have any steering and suspension repairs done.
It's also worthwhile to have your alignment checked periodically, such as once a year or every other year, as part of your regular vehicle maintenance.
Steps to Follow
It is possible to perform a tire alignment yourself (DIY) with the right tools and knowledge,
If you want to align your own tires and have the right equipment, here are the basic steps you will need to follow:
Prepare the vehicle: Raise the car using jack stands or a lift, and remove the front wheel hub caps.
Measure the current alignment: Use a camber gauge, a caster gauge, and a toe gauge to measure the current alignment of the front wheels. Record these measurements so you'll know what adjustments to make.
Make adjustments: Adjust the camber, caster, and toe as necessary. This will usually involve loosening and tightening various bolts and nuts on the suspension and steering components.
Check the alignment again: Once you've made the adjustments, use the alignment gauges again to check the alignment of the front wheels. Make additional adjustments as needed.
Repeat the process for the rear wheels if necessary.
Do a test drive to check the car's handling and any pulling or vibrations
Conclusion
So, now you are familiar with the basics of tire and wheel alignment and the signs of your vehicle requiring one. Make sure you buy a quality alignment machine for checking your vehicle or truck alignment at home from a reputed company, such as QuickTrick Alignment. The company’s award-winning portable alignment tools and kits are now available in more than 100 nations. Take your pick from their alignment machines and save big bucks.!

What a fucking NIGHTMARE.
I woke up this morning at 5AM, Tuesday June 28th, 2022.
Took my shower, woke the wife, got dressed, woke the oldest, got 2 pairs of shorts out of the dryer i still needed to pack, watered the plants in the house, watered the plants in the back yard on the patio, took the suitcase down to the car, got the portable blu-ray player with 20 hours of movies, got board games for the family, cleaned some dishes, helped pack food, looked for my oldest shoes that we can't find... loaded the car and set off.
BUT MY DUMB ASS THOUGHT IT WOULD BE FUNNY TO PLAY THE THEME SONG "HOLIDAY ROAD" FROM National Lampoons Vacation while getting ready...
Gassed up the car and headed south.
No problems until we hit the Ohio/West Virginia boarder in Gallopolis. The car says
LOW TIRE PRESSURE.
That means a catastrophic failure in my tires integrity. So we stop at a Loves truck stop off Rt35
Tumblr media
Put air in the tire. I can hear and feel the leak.
SHIT!
So I bust ass towards the nearest tire center that is 11 miles and 15 minutes away. But I feel the ass end getting squirrely.
So I stop at a Speedway and put more air into it just trying to preserve the tire so I don't have to buy a new one.
Tumblr media
Put air into the tire and bust ass to a damned Walmart tire center.
Tumblr media
We get there, ask the to see if it can be patched, there are 2 people ahead of us. So we wait... there is a hair salon in the damned Walmart. We see if they can cut the boys hair. It will be 10:30 before they can and that's too long so we go back to the tire department.
"We can't patch your tire because the inner tread is bald."
"OK, put a new tire on it for me please."
"We don't carry that size and need to order it. It will be two days."
(Turns out 245/40/19 is not a common size tire so fuck me, right?)
"I DONT HAVE TWO DAYS BECAUSE IM MEETING A FAMILY AT OUR RESORT THE NEXT DAY AT 4..."
"Well... try Dailey tire, maybe they will have one."
So I call and wouldn't you know, they DO! They had two 245/40/19 tires!
So I send my wife to the hair appointment for the boys, I have the dude at the tire center use a Cheetah (pressure tank) to fill my tire and then rip ass town the road to Dailey's
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I pull up, tires flat, they drop me in bay 4 as shown, grab the new tire, (A Goodyear, we have Pirelli"s) jack up the car, pull the lugs, "Hey pops grab me the hammer", "The big one or the small one?", "Small one will work.", knocks the wheel off, shows me TWO punctures, and dismounts, mounts, and balances the tire all in 15 minutes.
$212.00
I go back to Walmart and sit until 11:30 till the boys are done with their haircuts and hop back on the road 2 hours behind schedule.
$60 including tip
Trip is smooth sailing.
LOW TIRE PRESSURE
Tumblr media
What. The. Fuck. WHY!?
I tell my wife fuck it let's just find a service center.
CLOSEST ONE IS 15 MILES IN THE APPALACHIAN MOUNTAIN'S IN BLUEFIELD?
This time I drive the motherfucker till its wopwopwopwopwopwop.... and stop in the middle of Butt Fuck Egypt under an overpass outside of fucking Bluefield West Virginia.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And I start calling.
And calling.
And calling.
Tumblr media
There are 18 listed tire shops or service centers in the above photo. 6 of them never answered.
The other 12 don't carry 245/40/19 because it is an uncommon size.
Walmart - "we can get it in two days."
Sam's Club - "we can get it in two days."
B&M tire - "I don't know how long."
The damned Ford dealership, (we have a Lincoln) - "we don't have tires in stock we get them delivered when you schedule a service. We can have it by 10:30 tomorrow."
Kitts tire service - we can have it by 9:30 tomorrow. "
All of them besides Kitts suggested I go to motherfucking Kitts.
So my wife is contacting roadside through our insurance company and needs a drop-off so I tell her Walmart just to get it somewhere off the highway. I keep trying to find a damned 245/40/19 and realize that we won't arrive to Orlando the next day until 10:30PM If the wind blows right, a unicorn farts magic dust into our gas tank, nobody needs to eat or piss, and I don't blow another fucking tire!
The tow driver shows up after an hour and a half. He says, "Did you try Kitts?" Well shit, everybody said Kitts. "Tow us to Kitts, they can get us one by 9:30 in the morning". Maybe we can make it by 10:30PM in Orlando leaving the other family by themselves for 6 hours. (They can't check in without us because they are our guest.)
He replies, "I can't without clearance from your insurance company." (See confused meme above)
Wife frantically tries to contact the claims department, she's freaked out and falling apart silently, I'm shutting down, the driver walks up and starts the process of getting us to Kitts.
"Just tell em I took you to Walmart."
Tumblr media
He unloads us on the left and I have the brilliant idea to call all the dealerships in the area. Surely one of them has a 245/40/19
Toyota - "nope"
Subaru - "nope, have you tried Kitts?"
Chevy - "nope"
Dodge - "we don't have inventory, we get them as needed"
Other Toyota - "try the other Toyota store, we get what we need from them."
Now understand during all of this I have a 13 and almost 8 year old asking when we will get to Orlando. My wife is trying to cancel our hotel in Savanna, Georgia while talking to the other family meeting us, dealing with insurance, trying to calm down, and get us a hotel in wherever we are for the night.
Hyundai - "sorry we don't have a tire department, we send them to Nissan. (Same family owns them I think.)
I call Nissan, "Hey I'm in a bind, I'm looking for an odd ti...." I get a tap on the shoulder.
It's the owner of Kitts.
"Hey, we have your tire in the back. We just found it. In fact we have two and didn't know it. They aren't in the inventory......."
Look. I'm am not ashamed to tell you I cried on the spot. Silently but still, I wiped tears out of my eyes.
$240
(Side note, a gottdamned McLaren drove past this tire shop while I was on the phone with my dad while they were installing our tire) in THIS town?
So here I am, in my hotel bed next to my 13 year old with my wife snoring 3 feet away from me, at 1:24 in the morning after shaving 45 minutes off a 6.5 hour stretch doing 15 to 20 MPH over the limit through Virginia, North and South Carolina and 12 miles into Georgia.
We should have got here at 6PM. We got here at 11, we're $500 poorer and we haven't even reached Orlando yet.
Don't EVER listen to "Holiday Road" before going on a trip. Nothing good will happen.
Until tomorrow, bye bitches.

The end of my foray in to providing affordable housing: a rant
I left my parent's home with nothing but my car, guitar, and bag full of clothes at the age of 19. At this time the economy was pretty shitty and I was living in the suburban sanctuary city area of Chicagoland. Gas and rent prices were high and the competition in the job market was intense. Latino workers new to the area had more years of experience and more skills than any of us young kids at the time, so they usually got the good high paying jobs that didn't require college. The young spoiled suburban kids competed with one of the best labor forces that has ever been created. Being homeless didn't phase me much. I had plenty of training in living outside from the Boy Scouts (I'm an Eagle Scout), and I had a good work ethic.
Times were tough, but one of the biggest blessings during that time of my life was that I was able to eventually rent a room from a friend who had bought a small condo. Rent took up anywhere from 50%-75% of my income, and I was taking home less than 15k a year. Any time I could I would pick up work with a temp agency or friends with landscaping jobs when they needed a bigger crew. It felt like no matter what you did, someone was there to economically push your head back under water every time you caught a breather.
I would continue to live in poverty like this until I enlisted in the US Army. Fast forward to one year after my Army contract and I was buying my first home. I had continued to work in the medical field and had applied for and been granted a small amount of disability money from the VA. The housing market in Colorado was, and is totally jacked, so when I bought the house it was actually more than 50% cheaper than renting an apartment. After my ex who I had moved in there with and I split up, I moved in a couple of friends.
Things started out badly. My long term friend who I had helped out by charging very low rent to is an awful person to live with. He's cheated me on rent, negligently discharged a 9mm round almost killing me, and has broken 2 windows he refuses to fix. Additionally I had included a discount for if they could keep the lawn mowed - but this guy just wouldn't help the other one. After two months of sitting them down and talking about responsibility and team work, they still couldn't work together. So I pulled the discount and collected the extra cash from them. Things would not improve as I tried moving in different people.
I moved in a young couple. I had gone to school with the boyfriend and he assured me their stay would be short. His mother was mentally ill, and their apartment had about 3 feet of trash, clothes, and papers in the entire dwelling. Reluctantly I gave my friend a chance. It was only a couple of weeks before I caught him stealing my tools. So that couple didn't work out. They left within the first two months. Next, I took in a friend who was living in a van by the pool hall. He had some kind of persecution complex - accused me of racism, all of that kind of stuff. I let him park the van in the driveway and gave him a key to my mini-house. Eventually he would begin refusing to pay the small amount of money I was charging him. He then stole my portable air conditioner and was never heard from again.
A guy that I served with in the Army was staying at my place for free. He began using meth and started drinking an insane amount of whiskey and was eventually stabbed twice in the chest by his ex girlfriend. After his manic episodes started to get violent I had to ask him to leave. I could keep going with these stories - I have many. In the end I've only had 3 people out of about 12 live there that have been decent people. One of the worst ones was when I tried to help my meth addict friend get back on his feet. I got my notary public so I could help him get his ID, let him live in my garage for NO MONEY AT ALL. My only condition was that he was the only one allowed in the garage and that if he used meth, to do it behind the garage. After coming home too many times to people smoking meth in my garage, I kicked him out.
So clearly I've had bad experiences providing affordable housing. But what's going to happen across the market when investors realize that low income housing is just a total waste of money? It seems like every week there's another horror story from Colorado Springs about renters taking complete advantage of their landlords. The biden eviction freeze didn't help either. Without the possible threat of eviction tenants were allowed to get away with some insane shit.
The move away from affordable housing is very clear in South Downtown Colorado Springs. Older affordable housing buildings and single family homes have been knocked down in favor of expensive high rise luxury apartments. Entire families are being priced out of the city - because why would an investor rent to a random? They can rent to people based on income and ask for a very high income level. They can rent to primarily military, in which they have the JAG officials and unit commanders to go to with grievances. In Moses Lake, the town I now live next to, affordable housing came in the form of the government leaving the small Army base for the locals to buy and rent. The Base, formerly post housing, is the dirtiest and most violent area of town. There are frequent shootings and the residents admit that they in fear of the growing violence. Blessed with the opportunity to live in affordable housing, the locals have chosen to sink to the lowest level possible - turning an affordable community in to a drug filled and violent shithole.
There is zero motivation to manage, build, or develop affordable housing. So what will happen? I think within a few years we are going to see a lot of cities starting to look like Portland with people living in their vehicles wherever they are allowed to. So will the government step in and force current property owners to rent at lower prices? Probably, since most cities are controlled by big government democrats. New York is already pushing to use hotels and empty offices for those that cannot or will not find housing. Medium sized suburbs will be flooded with vagrants, their police departments unable to stem the tide. In my situation I only had good renters 25% of the time. I attribute this to people just being shitty nowadays. Laziness and dishonesty were the two biggest problems with my renters. No matter how low I went with rent or expectations of decency, people were always prepared to go lower. What kind of sane investor want to make a 25% return on investment while at the same time incurring expensive damages, dealing with law enforcement, and having to deal with the county to serve evictions? I've got my favorite renter of all time moving back in this upcoming winter. He's a good friend who has never done me wrong. He's paid on time and really respected my space. When he moved out the first time, I could barely tell there was anyone in his space and it smelled like purple fabuloso. After that I am not moving anyone in ever again. My attempt at helping people has been nothing but an abject failure. And for my parting words of this rant I'll point out the most disturbing part of this in my opinion. The most disturbing part of this to me is the low quality of people's character. Most people's word cannot be trusted. I tell my young guys that work for me this all the time: You can be bleeding, naked, and dying in the gutter and the only thing that cannot be taken from you is your integrity. You must hold on to it at all costs. If you are a man of your word it will bring you farther in this world than any amount of wealth. Being a man of my word got me the excellent start in the career field I am in now. My current boss just wanted to know if I could be trusted and nothing else. I entered the agricultural industry with nothing but the honor of my good name, which will never be taken from me.

Cold hands (but no cold heart here)
I wanted to get in at least one semi-winter fic before the season was up, and while this grew beyond what I’d originally planned for it, you’ll hear no complaints from me.
Pairing: F!Dep x Sharky Boshaw (pre-ship, but they clearly didn’t get the memo) Rating: T Word Count: 3.7K
Link to AO3!
___
She wasn’t built for the cold. But with him, she didn’t have to be.
______________
She wasn’t built for the cold.
In Detroit she could’ve better prepped for it. Learned how to handle it like a reasonable human being if she’d been able to live there longer than a handful of years, but she hadn’t been that lucky. She went south. Traveled with her mother to warmer climates, and learned how to better weather heatwave after heatwave, rather than the odd sixty degree and below day.
It was miserable when those days hit. Burrowing into her jacket, Hana had tried to tough it out. Insist she was doing alright, when in reality she badly wanted a heavier coat or a sweater, and latched onto her warmer friends as a result.
She did not think this through before moving to Montana.
Montana. The land of mountains, snow, and temperatures that would make any warm-blooded southerner weep.
As the resident southern transplant, Hana had begged Sharky to set up a campfire when they found a good spot for one, and nearly wept at the heat coming off of it. Rubbing her hands together, she kept them over the campfire, and soaked in every last bit of warmth she possibly could.
“Geez, Dep. You really digging it that much?”
Mid-sigh, she closed her eyes, and smiled. “You have no idea. I’ve been suffering out here.”
“Suffering? It’s…what, kinda cool, but not like we’re heading into winter?”
When she opened her eyes, Sharky was still squinting over at her, his attention squarely on her hands, and she wiggled her fingers at him. If anything, that made him stare harder, and she snorted.
“My hands are telling me a different story.”
“Yeah, it’s real nice out right now. Prime weather for a cookout, or a little down-home barbeque.”
“If you’re a living furnace.” And to be fair, if anyone was, it’d be him. “Vouch for me here, Grace.”
The other woman didn’t speak up immediately. Focused on her gear, Grace glanced up only long enough to meet her gaze across the fire. “He’s right.”
Her mouth fell open. “What?”
“Though I guess if you wanted to-“ Sharky stopped, and turned towards Grace as well, his own face frozen in shock. “Say what, Grace?”
“Weather’s nice, won’t argue that. Think you’d like the excuse to have a barbeque all year round, though.”
“Well, not all year. You take a break to smoke meat, or roast it. Maybe fry it, though our bird bomb didn’t go over so well that one year, so I think we’re off the hook for that.” He tossed some jerky into his mouth, and chewed on it loudly as he mulled Grace’s words over. “…But you ain’t wrong.”
“The police reports aren’t either,” Hana said, biting her lip.
The bag of jerky Sharky had just held out to her was promptly withdrawn. “I thought we were friends, H.”
That was straight-up dirty pool. “Oh no, you aren’t-“
“’Cause this was my sharing bag. The kind you keep close by for a bro so they don’t go and starve, but all I’m hearing is law talk and paperwork over there.”
Holding it out over towards Grace, Hana gasped as the other woman took the bag.
“See?” Sharky said, gesturing between them. “Bros.”
Grace handed the bag to her right after, and one look at Sharky’s face sent her straight into a laughing fit. One whole wheezing, doubled-over-and-holding-her-sides fit, and by the time she was able to look over at him through her tears, he’d settled back in his seat with a scowl.
“Shark. Shark, hon, don’t be like that, okay?”
Wiping at her eyes, she gave him the bag. Nudged him in the arm with it as he groused, and knew she was pouting a little herself.
“Hey, I wasn’t trying to be mean. You know you’re the best bud around, right? And I’d buy you a truck-load of jerky, if I could. Hell, there has to be at least one cult supply truck full of this stuff driving around.”
He snuck a quick glance at her. “Yeah, I guess.”
“I’d hijack that truck for you.” She held up her fingers. “Two trucks.”
A small smile started to creep onto his face. “We might be looking at a three truck minimum here.”
“…How about four?”
“Four?” He lit right up, and she couldn’t help but do the same. “Shit, we might be looking at a deal there, shorty.”
She held out her hand, and after a quick shake, she felt the tension subside. Even managed to snag a piece of jerky as well – a probationary peace offering of sorts that Sharky was all too serious about as she took it – and they all settled into silence after that.
She returned her hands to the fire after a few minutes, however, savoring that flash of heat.
“Seriously?”
“No dice, hon. I could be holding these over a lava flow and they’d still find a way to be cold.”
“No shit?” Sharky took her hands in his, and his eyebrows flew up. “Okay, that’s…that’s pretty damn cold. Like I could hand you something only to come back to it being ice cold soon after.”
“Really now?” she asked, feeling her cheeks warm.
The brief brush with the handshake was nothing compared to this. Moving her hands around in his grip, she pressed her palms to his. Got as much contact as she was able to, and wished the gloves weren’t between them.
“Yeah, you’re like the best portable fridge. Perfect for chilling with, doesn’t mind travel, so you can roll out and go whenever you want, and…is just all-around super cool like that.“
His hands stayed clasped around hers, both absurdly warm as they chased off the chill her fingerless gloves did jack to protect against. But when he started rubbing them lightly, somehow managing to warm the rest of her in the process, she cleared her throat.
“Super cool?”
“Yeah, super cool,” he replied, without batting an eye. “Ain’t that right, Grace?”
The rasp of a laugh from nearby made Hana’s eyes snap right to her. But it was too late. Her face was burning with a vengeance, and one look at their linked hands only made it ten times worse.
Tugging her hands away, Hana hopped up. “Think we’re due for a perimeter check.”
“What? We just did one ten minutes ago-“
She grabbed her rifle and made a beeline straight for the bushes.
She heard him calling after her, only a few feet out as she kept on going, and hoped like hell that by the time he caught up, she’d be back to normal.
Because this? This was starting to get a little ridiculous.

Heading north, the three kept on moving until the sun dipped low in the sky. That meant needing a place to set up camp, and for once their luck seemed to be looking up.
Up ahead, she’d caught the place with her binoculars. It was a smaller house, one that showed some signs of damage on the outside, but hadn’t been torched. While approaching it, Grace guided them forward. Motioned for them to stay quiet as they moved, keeping their weapons at the ready.
That lasted all of five minutes when Hana climbed through the open window only to hear something shatter nearby.
Creeping into what appeared to be the living room, she groaned when she spotted Sharky messing around with a ceramic figurine. Trying to fit the head of it back onto its torso, he fumbled at it, only to drop it when he caught her eye.
Jabbing a finger towards the other end of the house, she didn’t say a thing. Just pointed as Sharky gave her a sheepish look, and urged him to keep moving.
In the end, it was clear.
That made relief sink right into her, and once the three met up back in the living room, they quickly hashed out a plan for the night. Shifts, where to sleep, and noting any points of entry.
All points but the first they knocked out in less than thirty minutes. But the minute that was done, before Sharky could say a single word, she held up her hands and issued a challenge.
Rock, paper, scissors.
Their usual go-to to settle any and all shift arguments, and after the last few nights of peace, she’d seen the glint in his eye. He’d been biding his time, waiting to see if she’d try to call dibs early. When she didn’t, and he failed to call it in turn, they both dove right in with their first set of choices.
Midway through her and Sharky’s second round, however, Grace intervened. “We doing this again?”
“Yes,” Hana said, matching Sharky’s paper with her own. “Well, the two of us are, because we’ll never be able to get shift assignments down otherwise, but if you want in, winner’ll gladly take you on.”
Things grew quiet after that. The only sound around coming from them slapping their hands together, both matching their picks and swearing in the process.
Out of the corner of her eye, however, she noticed Grace’s tapping foot. Chancing a look her way, Hana took in her crossed arms and drawn expression, and felt her motions begin to slow down until they reached a complete halt.
Grace shook her head. “Sharky? Take first.”
He stopped, his scissors outclassed by the rock Hana was wielding, and groaned. “Seriously?”
“I get what you two are trying at, but we don’t have time to waste doing this. You want second?”
Sharky frowned, but after thinking it over shook his head. “Nah, I’ll do it. Least it’ll get it out of the way so I can snag some Zs after.”
“Well, if he’s doing first, I’ll take second.”
“Third it is.” Grace tilted her head towards Hana. “You two really want to do this every time?”
“Not every time,” she said, placing her hands on her hips. “But if I call dibs first, that’s non-negotiable.”
“Which ain’t cool at all, Dep,” Sharky muttered.
“You’ve done it too! Sometimes before we’ve even left the damn car to check to see if it’s even worth staying at a place.”
“Only ‘cause I know you’ll spring it on me later. Taking advantage of the fact that I’m set on doing the max amount of boogying only for you to call it right when it’s getting good? That’s just low.”
He was miffed. Genuinely miffed at her over this, and she gaped at him. “You aren’t serious.”
“Uh, I’m pretty fucking serious. ‘Specially when it means you’re the one getting the drop on some cool shit happening, having all the badass moments anyone could ever ask for, and I’m in the next room doing nothing, and I can’t even take my pants off-“
“You’re sleeping. People need to do that.”
“But I wanna have your back on that. Maybe even get in some sweet back to back action too, before any of the Peggies give us the runaround, ‘cause you know we’d kick ass at it.”
“Hon, I mean it. You really aren’t missing out on much.”
She didn’t know what face he was making, but knew the frustration she gave off wasn’t helping in the slightest.
“Jesus, Shark. It’s not like I always win these things! I mean, you’re the reason why we have the whole two out of three thing going to begin with, and-“
Hana stopped.
Noticing the sudden Grace-shaped gap in the room, she took a quick look around and couldn’t find a single trace of her.
“…We weren’t that bad, were we?” Hana asked, shooting Sharky a nervous glance.
“Nah, didn’t think we were. Would’ve won this one, though.”
“Oh? You really think so?”
“Wouldn’t even need two out of three,” he said, smirking right at her. “I’d get that shit in one. Right out the gate.”
She narrowed her eyes. When she made no move to restart the game, Sharky waggled his eyebrows at her, and she felt her fingers twitch.
“Don’t tempt me, Boshaw.”
“You know you wanna.” With that tone he’d clearly missed the memo. “I’ll trade you if you win. Give you all of the dibs you could ever want or call. All first, no contest.”
Good thing she was set on ignoring it too. “None?”
“Not a single one, scout’s honor,” he said, holding up a hand. “Not that I got through much of the whole badge-earning business and shit, but learning to start fires, chop wood, and tie a rope’s enough to give me a free pass to use that once. Maybe even twice.”
Hana whipped out her hands, setting her fist in her open palm, and his face lit up in delight.
Their choices came quick, hers lingering a beat behind as she watched him. Taken more than a little by the grin he was wearing, she slapped down the first thing that popped into her mind.
Paper.
The V Sharky made with his fingers hovered in front of him as he snipped the air, and she dug her teeth right into her lip.
“Fuck.”
“Better luck next time, Dep.”
---
It wasn’t a large house, so having to cover one floor wasn’t tough.
The tough part all came down to settling in, reinforcing both the front and rear entrances, making sure their weapons were close enough to grab – and in her case, not freezing to death. But that was more of a personal problem than anything else.
Much as she missed the campfire from the morning, there was no point in starting one nearby.  Not with the lack of trees offering cover, and the odds of the fire being caught by anyone traveling on the nearby road.
Blankets were set down in one of the rooms in the back, and after staking a claim on the warmest quilt in the house, Hana took up a spot near Grace, wished Sharky luck, and tried to sleep. That was the hardest part by far. Telling her body that it was okay to relax, and to close her eyes and ignore every small little sound, while repeating that pledge over and over.
Scraping together an hour or two of sleep was better than nothing, but it was adding up. She’d been sluggish before, and her stint on Nick’s couch should’ve been a major wake up call, but that didn’t shut her brain up. That didn’t make the tension settle out whenever a nearby twig was snapped.
So, she laid there. Forced her eyes to stay shut, and tightened her fingers in the blanket as the seconds ticked by.
When she’d been given a light shake to wake her up, she jolted. With bleary eyes she’d taken in her surroundings before flashing Sharky a thumbs up, and braced herself for the world outside of her mini cocoon.
Leaving that warmth sucked, but she adjusted fast. This was a better use of her time for now, letting her pour the nervous energy into something that kept her moving. Kept her thinking as she settled outside, and lit up a cigarette.
Time passed. Hana burned through one cigarette, then two, watching and waiting as the clouds drifted by overhead. Without the stars or the moon, she had nothing to track. Only kept her eyes out for any lights in the distance, hoping that if anyone was going to come by to clear this place out they’d have already done it.
Pacing around, she stuck close. Felt an actual shiver run through her as she crouched down low so she could get proper cover, and rubbed her hands together. Moving helped. Burned a little energy from the endless well her nerves tried to supply her with, and stored the rest just in case she actually needed it.
The grass swayed with the wind, drawing her eye as it moved, and she drew in an unsteady breath. Checking the watch she’d been passed, she swiped at the face of it with her thumb as the seconds counted up to sixty, then began all over again.
Tick, tick, tick.
Traveling in a circle, she idly noted the position of the hands before going back to the sky. Took another set of puffs off of her cigarette, waited, then looked back down at the watch when she’d finished counting the stars hanging up above her head.
Tapping at the face with her finger, she squinted at it closely and felt her eyes widen.
Ten past. Ten minutes past when she was supposed to get Grace, and at least ten minutes spent zoning out, registering nothing when a group could’ve been closing in on them.
Rubbing at her face, she gave the outside one last scan, and made her way back inside.
It didn’t take much to rouse Grace. Just a few words spoken close to her side – never a shake, or a touch – and Grace gave her a quick glance before getting up.
Trouble?
Hana shook her head at the unspoken question. Nope, none to speak of.
With that answered, Grace took her rifle, geared up after taking the offered watch, and disappeared through the doorway.
Knowing Grace was watching them now, the tension started to ebb away. Bled right out as Hana set her things to the side, and dragged the blanket with her, burrowing back down into her spot from before.
But now she was back to square one.
Blinking against the dark, she sighed. Flopped over, testing the position to see if it’d work, only to feel everything curl under her wrong. She rolled over, giving the blanket a harsh pull to re-wrap it around her, and huffed when it didn’t feel any more comfortable than before.
Rolling back over, she heard something move nearby. Lifting her head, she saw Sharky wind his arms tighter around himself, as his snoring tapered off. He didn’t stay still for long, however. It was a small tremor, but it ran through him as he laid there, the sheet he’d picked too thin to do much to help.
Scooting closer to him, she tugged out the edge of her blanket, and tossed it towards him.
He started when the heavier material hit. But after a second of moving around and blinking at her, he shucked the sheet off and scooted in so he could tuck the blanket around himself too.
“Hands still cold, Dep?” He’d half-mumbled the words, not awake enough to really jump up and go, but was responding to her at the moment.
Hana made a face, feeling her fingertips tingle until Sharky reached over and tucked one hand against his side. His hoodie had ridden up enough for her to touch his skin directly, and it was so damn warm she sighed in relief instantly.
He flinched at the contact, though. “Yeah, still cold.”
“Not like Montana’s decided to get any warmer,” she shot, but kept her voice low.
His small smile grew, and he wiggled closer so her arm wasn’t hanging in the air between them. That put him close enough now to have it tucked along his side, covered by both his hoodie and the extra blanket she’d tossed over him.
Maybe a foot was between them at best, but she wasn’t checking. Or really bothered by it either. Just amused at how they’d gone from sleeping within the general vicinity of each other to practically sharing the same space. A few added inches would turn her pillow into their pillow, and even now his cheek was practically resting on it.
And with her hand still up his shirt, at that. He’d initiated the contact, not bothered in the slightest by any of it, and she almost wanted to laugh.
Seriously, is he just that damn-
No.
No, she didn’t need any of her thoughts going in that direction right now. That wasn’t going to help in the slightest.
So, she focused on him instead. Watched Sharky’s face as she traced her fingers along his side, watching his nose twitch as he breathed. Not quite snoring like he’d done before, but breathing deep. Slow, and steady with each one, even as her hand slid to his lower back.
That got a hum out of him. The sound pleasant in a way that made her face flush, and she quickly shifted her hand back into place.
The movement made his brows furrow, however, and he stretched. “Mmm, how you doing now?”
Pinching her lips shut, Hana swallowed the lump that had found its way to her throat.
He cracked open his eyes to look at her, and she considered taking her hand back, but couldn’t do it. Not when he really was every bit as warm as she wished she was.
“Better,” she said, half-rasping at him. “Easy to say when I’ve got my own portable space heater next to me, though.”
Sharky tapped a finger against his forehead. “See? I know my shit. Also remembered you saying your hands get cold easy, so…”
Chewing on her lip, she gave him a shy smile. “Still got one free, you know.”
“Got what free?”
“A hand.” Bringing her other arm out from under her pillow, she gave him a small wave. “Missing one there, bud.”
“Aw, shit,” he said, concern crossing him. “Let me get right on that.”
Taking her other hand in his, he held it close to his chest. Close enough for her to splay her fingers out over it if she wanted to. But when his thumb brushed the back of her hand, she kept it in his. Focused on the soft, smooth strokes moving back and forth over her skin as he held her, his grip relaxed around it.
“Don’t wanna fail you now. Leaving you all cold and bothered like that? Make me one shitty-ass compadre if I did.”
Her face was warm when she turned it into her pillow. Almost hopelessly so as she peered over at him, catching the pout he was wearing. It was ridiculous and wonderful, and only he’d find a way to pull it off.
“Shark, I don’t think you could be shitty if you tried.”
Over his hoodie, she didn’t feel much, but she imagined she’d feel his heartbeat if he wasn’t wearing it. Beating steady under her fingertips, and comforting in its own right. The whole of him even warmer than he already was this close to her, and she wanted to wrap herself up in every inch of it.
Her eyelids started to droop, closing more with each blink, and she turned her hand so she could try to twine her fingers with his.
They weren’t aligned right, but she felt him shift too. Moving to give her just enough space to wind them together, and hold on tight.

How did I get so lucky? That this was turning into just another day in her life with Dean Winchester made her shake her head. This has to be what it feels like to win the lottery.
Julie sprayed the top of the sliding glass door with a window cleaner. She took time to enjoy all the sexiness on the other side of the glass, the view of Dean in her backyard, while attending to her household chore. A few final touches and Dean would be done with the assembly. Crouched down and bent at the knees, Dean added some utensil hooks to the side of the grill. Unknowing, he was giving her all of that gorgeous, serious profile of his to study. Sunshine streaked through his hair and flamed the fiery orange-red tips incognito most of the time. She wiped away the cleaner slipping over her view.
The grill had been an impromptu purchase on her end the weekend before. She and Dean had gone to, of all places, a home improvement store together. He had noticed a couple things around her house that needed fixing. But he wanted to run the ideas past her and some options before he went ahead and did anything. It was very domestic and thoughtful of him. It brought a huge grin to her face.
He’d snuck a peck on her cheek when they were alone in the garden and patio center, talking about the drop in price of some seasonal stuff. His eyes lit up at a behemoth gas grill. He whistled and spouted off the stats: three burners, one on the side, plus a sear station burner to boot. The sucker could deliver 60,000 BTUs, which according to Dean, was awesome. Those meaty, handy fingers of his glided over the stainless steel top. Julie heated up.
It was decided that since Julie was throwing Brigida a surprise birthday party that following weekend and the October weather was pleasant enough, why not buy a grill and make it an outdoor affair. Most of the guests would end up outside anyway. Would Dean be keen on manning the meat for her? Julie tossed the unintentional innuendo out and had the six foot plus Adonis blushing in the middle of the display floor.
Satisfied with the streak free glass, Julie went out to check on Dean’s status. He leaned up from his work position and smiled. “All good. She’s ready for action. Just lit her up.”
Julie nodded, sighing in relief. “Cutting it close.” A couple hours from now the guests would arrive. And Brigida would definitely be on time, if not earlier, an hour after that.
“Yeah. But, it only took me threatening three store clerks at nine am this morning. Pulled a working igniter out of the floor model to get this baby up and running.” He waved both hands in the air with a flourish. “Now, we’re golden. No more nose crinkles. The meat’s marinating in your fridge.” He cocked a thumb over to Wes and Samuel’s house. “They’ve got the booze covered and some side dishes.”
“You need me to dash out for anything else before I finish up my food and the cookies to go along with the ice cream cake?”
He shook his head and drew her in by the waist, their bodies snug. “You trust me with all that fire power?”
Her hand rubbed over his vintage AC/DC t-shirt right under the collar. Sweat stippled his brow from the running around and grill tweaking. The mix of it with his sharp, clean soap scent got her warm and tingly. God, how does he make sexy so effortless? “You can handle it. I’m no Prometheus. You should worry more about my mom trying to take over the grill once she gets here.”
“Hey, it’s her birthday. If she wants the tongs and spatula, I’ll hand them over and be her sous chef.”
Julie smiled. “She’d probably love that.”
He grinned and bent down to dust her bottom lip with his mouth. “How many we gotta feed again?”
She rattled off the memorized total. “Twenty-two, not including us. Fifteen adults, three kids, two teenagers, and two dogs.”
Dean tipped his head. “Piece of cake.”
Julie smirked. “Not pie?”
His fingers flirted over the denim covering her ass. “Saving your pie for later.” He leaned down again for a deeper kiss.

Julie’s backyard had never seen such activity. Lawn chairs scattered over the freshly mowed lawn. Stacey and Carl’s two older children, Evan, 10, and Rory, 7, played cornhole in the driveway. Brigida had latched onto their youngest boy, two year old Dylan, right after everyone had given her a Happy Birthday surprise welcome. Karen’s boyfriend, Carter, the New York Mergers and Acquisitions lawyer, Wes, and Carl kept Dean company by the grill. He seared chicken, flipped hot dogs, checked and rechecked the pork ribs, sipped his beer, and took doneness requests for the beef burgers.
Samuel chatted under the covered patio with Karen, Stacey, Cat and her partner Sheila, along with the handful of Brigida’s Little Italy neighbors that had made the short trek out of the city to celebrate. Karen’s teenage boys hid most of the time, busy on their phones under the shade of the carport. Julie attempted to involve Karen’s oldest, Khaleel - a sullen 16 who more than likely wanted to be anywhere else - asking if he would man the playlist blaring out of the portable bluetooth speaker. The younger by two years, Kevin, emerged from his cocoon to explain TikTok to Dean. The explanation only furrowed the cook’s brow even more.
Julie caught Dean’s this-is-for-the-guests smile settle into the I’m-actually-kinda-glad-to-see-you version when Cas and Jack finally showed up. Cas had picked up some weekend shifts to make ends meet. Jack was still working his side job as much as he could, balancing school, to save up for his trip to Texas over Winter Break. He was going to MIRL with this fantasy girl if it was the last thing he ever did. At least, that was the confession he had told Julie as the four hung out for a movie and pizza over Dean’s a month back.
Cas took his usual post at Dean’s right side by the grill. Julie glanced over every so often at the comical duo. Somewhere between Abbott and Costello and Martin and Lewis. Dean monitored his friend’s interactions with the new group of men. If Cas needed to pull back on the conversation a bit or shift to another topic, Dean cued him with a slight shake of a head or cough. Cas held his beer in a fierce grip and mimicked Dean when he took a sip. God, there is so much codependency there. What they hell did they go through together? Dean gave Jack a pair of tongs and had him man the second round of dogs. Jack smiled from ear to ear like a teenager getting the keys to the car after passing his driver’s license. And, he’s like a second dad to that kid.
As was always the case in hosting, and determined to not have her mom lift a finger, Julie barely had time to relax or eat for the first hour of the party. She made sure the other food got served when Dean plattered and presented grilled meats. The two of them used a lot of hand gestures and miming to coordinate everything. Dean would every so often switch things up and make Julie blush with a few obscene ones.
Once Dean had been schooled by Cat on Salt and Pepa’s breeds - a Samoyed and Belgian Sheepdog, respectively - he had them eating out of and drooling into his hands for scraps. Cas and Jack procured a frisbee from the outdoor toys and tossed it back and forth with the kids. The dogs played monkey in the middle.
Dean called out to Julie once everyone else was situated and eating. “Jules! Got a medium-well burger with your name on it, ready in a minute.” He winked over. She set the last of the latest round of drinks in front of guests and gave him a thumbs up.
Stacey cooed. “Knows just how you like your meat, does he?”
The old college friends did their share of giggling and cackling. Julie pointed a finger from Samuel to Stacey. “No more of your red wine for this one.”
Carl tapped his wife’s knee. “Take it easy, sweetie.” Stacey gave her husband a slobbery raspberry on the cheek.
“That is a sweet ride.” Carter pointed to Baby in Dean’s driveway as her owner snuck behind Julie. He presented a cheeseburger on a perfectly toasted bun. Julie smiled at the lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles - all her favorites - already on top. The charred meat and fixings smelled divine. Her stomach grumbled. A side glance noted her mom’s own smiling face. Brigida stared over at the both of them while talking to the two older couples.
“Well, you can take a look under the hood later if you want, Carter. Rebuilt her more times than I can count.” He whispered in Julie’s ear. “Eat something before you pass out.”
She grinned, wanting to tease that he sounded like Brigida, but thought better of it. Stacey and the crew were watching their interactions like hungry vultures, ready to pounce on anything too tasty to tease about.
“So, Dean, if the ladies have another girls’ night, maybe we can get us a poker game over at my house.” Carl interjected.
Sheila chimed in, “Only if I can join.”
Julie overheard Cas whisper to Dean in confusion. “Wouldn’t Sheila be a part of girls’ night?”
Dean muttered back, “Not if she has better taste in music than the rest of them.”
Carter shook his head. “Oh, God, you wiped me out last time we played poker Sheila.”
Dean cocked a brow and gave Sheila a lopsided grin. “Some actual competition. Sounds like we gotta make that happen soon.”
Sheila tipped her beer to Dean and gave his frame a thorough inspection.
“My poker skills would benefit from someone new to play with, as well.” Cas nodded to Sheila. “I know all of Dean’s tells at this point. It’s getting rather boring.”
Sheila patted the empty seat next to her. “You might be my new best friend, then, Cas.”
Cas smiled and puffed out his chest.
Dean whispered to Julie, “Should I break the news that he hasn’t a shot in hell?”

Karen helped Julie with some of the kitchen cleanup before dessert. It was really a ruse for alone time and girl talk.
“How was it?” Karen asked in a hushed tone, in case anyone snuck in. She’d known about Julie going on birth control again. Had actually been the one to give her the idea in the first place.
“Which time?” Julie smiled. “We’ve been at it every night since the middle of this week when I surprised him.” She added. “Sometimes two or three times.”
“Jesus. Two or three? Carter’s five years younger than me and two times in one night has never… never happened. Three?” Karen fanned herself over the sink and running water. “How are you handling all that man, Jules?” Her brown eyes widened while she rinsed plates to drop in the dishwasher.
Julie answered by holding her hands apart to approximate Dean’s length.
“Get the fuck out of here!” Karen’s voice raised. She slapped a palm over her mouth at the outburst. Water and suds flew everywhere.
Julie crossed a finger over her chest, blinking at the water that splashed her face. “When have I lied under oath?”
“Be careful or you’re going to get a UTI.” She added in a whisper, “From all that fucking.”
Julie laughed. “I booked a follow up with my gyno as soon as I got the prescription. I see her next week.” She whispered back. “Kar, it was amazing, mind blowing before this. But now, it’s like…” Julie trailed off, daydreaming about her lover in the backyard. Her insides sore, throbbing with the memory of him; a deep and beautiful stoking she couldn’t wait to experience again.
“I think Carter and Carl have crushes on him.” Karen shook her head. “Carter might come in his pants if he gets that car tour.”
“Don’t tell Cat, but I think Sheila might be crushing, too.” Julie giggled.
“We heard that!” Stacey and Cat screamed in unison. Karen and Julie screamed back in shock. Cat, a bit tipsy herself this afternoon, sported a toothy grin. From Julie’s vantage, she was lighter than usual, airy even. One of her arms draped over Stacey’s shoulders as the duo sashayed into the kitchen.
“Only speaking the truth.” Karen raised a hand as the other still clutched her chest at the friendly fright.
Stacey waved a hand. “I get dibs on Dean when Jules is done with him.” She wiggled her eyebrows.
Julie rolled her eyes. “Not planning on it anytime soon, Stace.”
Cat opened her mouth. Her eyes caught the threat Julie’s eyes beamed with an intentional telepathy. Cat snapped her jaw shut before the other ladies noticed.
“Not fair to keep all the juicy details to yourself.” Stacey whined, sliding out from Cat’s grip and into one of the kitchen chairs. She slumped over the table, elbow propped, cradling her chin in a manicured hand. “Some of us have needs.” She sighed.
Cat leaned against a counter, eyes glazed behind her glasses. “I think Brigida’s had one too many.”
Julie was happy for the segway but not pleased with the content. She settled her own glasses against the bridge of her nose in a nervous tick. “Really? A saw her with a glass of wine. But, she usually only has a little.”
“I think Wes and Samuel made her a special birthday cocktail.”
“Ugh.” She wiped both hands down across her face. “Love ‘em but those men and their alcohol.”
Stacey did her best pigeon impression again. “Do you love ‘em as much as Dean?”
A very deep throat clearing had all four ladies turn their head to the hallway. Dean stood there carrying a huge empty platter covered in meat bits and juices. “Am I interrupting something?” Julie blushed at the proud grin on his face. He skimmed past Stacey’s seated frame. Stacey was eye level with the denim hugging his ass and licked her lips. He excused himself again and slid around Cat, lifting the platter over Julie’s head winding past, to end up near Karen by the sink. “This is a nasty one. Let me take care of this, Karen.” He offered.
She shook her head. “Hand it over. Least we can do after you did such a stellar job at the grill. You got Kevin to eat a burger that doesn’t come in a fast food bag.”
“That is high praise. Thanks.” He smiled and gave Julie a once over before asking, “Anything else have to go out?”
“You think I should grab the ice cream cake out of the basement fridge?”
“It might be a good idea soon.” Dean shrugged. “Everyone’s either winding down or is pretty hammered.” He glanced over at Stacey.
Julie nodded and pointed at the counter behind him. “Would you take that tray out with the dessert plates and all the other necessities? Pretty please?”
He winked. “Yes, Ma’am.”
Stacey groaned. “Ugh. Could you two reel in the cuteness?”
Julie ignored the request. “Thank you. Cat.” She turned to ask her friend. “Wanna help me with the cake?”
“Um, sure.” Cat hesitated.
When they got down to the basement, Julie listened to ensure Dean’s heavy steps had made their way out the sliding door and Stacey and Karen were busy talking in the kitchen.
“I’m not the best person to ask to carry a cake upstairs.” Cat mumbled.
“You can spot me.” Her hand rested on the fridge handle. “Speaking of looking out for me…”
“I know. I haven’t reached out much since that last conversation we had.” Cat shrugged. “You sounded happy that night, with him. I figured I should mind my own business for once and stop investigating.”
“Thank you, Cat.” Julie smiled.
“He seems decent, Julie. A good guy, even. Simple. Easy.” Cat waved a hand. “I don’t mean either of those things as a negative.”
Julie laughed. “I know. But, trust me, he’s anything but simple or easy to figure out.” She tilted her head. “I’ve been thinking... would you send me over a couple of those books you found?”
Cat pursed her lips. “I’ll think about it.”

It was ten o’clock by the time Dean and Julie finished with a majority of the clean up from the party. The last dishwasher load had been started, all the guests had gone home, and Brigida was fussing in the kitchen. Dean looked like a very uncomfortable giant next to the birthday lady.
“I don’t need-ah to stay.” Brigida insisted. “Dean-ah can take me home.” Her Italian accent was a lot heavier laced with alcohol.
“No, Dean can’t. None of us should be driving, Ma. We’ve all had a bit too much to drink. You have your extra meds here in your room. You’re going to take them, drink lots of water, and go to bed.”
She waved her hands. “I don’t want to be in the way.”
Julie rolled her eyes and sighed.
“Brigida, we just threw a party for you. How could you think you’re in the way?” Dean asked with true sincerity in his voice.
“Dean-ah.” She clutched his forearm. “I don’t want-ah you to run home. And, I know-ah this one won’t leave me in the house alone-ah. Thinkin’ I won’t be able to walk twenty steps without falling over and knocking myself out-ah.”
Dean shrugged. “It’s not a big deal, I’m pretty tired. Long day.”
“Ma, Dean can stay over if he wants to.” Julie widened her eyes to encourage Dean to play along.
“Ye-yeah. Sure. We’re both exhausted.” He faked a long yawn and stretched out an arm. “Sooo tired. Gonna conk out as soon as my head hits the pillow.”
Brigida grinned. “You are a bad liar.” She tapped his tummy. “Fine. I’ll get myself ready for bed.” She raised both arms at Julie. “Appy?”
“Very happy.” Julie smiled. “Need me to help you with anything?”
“No.” Brigida motioned for Dean to bend down. She gave him a very long mama bear hug and then squeezed a cheek. “Thank you.”
Julie’s heart warmed at the interaction.
His facial features squirmed under Brigida’s vice grip. “Welcome.”
When she retracted her fingers, she announced, “I’ll be up early cleanin’ and makin’ breakfast.” She shuffled out of the kitchen. Her loud voice rang out in the hallway. “Don’t come down here naked in the morning, Dean-ah. Not-ah unless you got plans for me.”
Dean snorted as Julie yelled. “Ma!”
Dean shook his head. “She’s even more of a pistol drunk.” He wrapped arms around Julie when they were alone. “I’ll hang out until she’s in her room and sleeping. I don’t think it’ll take long. Help you clean up some more. Then, I’ll duck out.” His kiss was soft and warm.
Julie hummed. “You heard her. She’s making you breakfast.” She shrugged. “You can stay.”
Dean smiled. “Sweetheart, if I stay, we won’t be sleeping.”
“Good.”
Tumblr media
They took turns in the upstairs bathroom. Dean first, as usual, since Julie took longer with her nighttime skin routine. Cleanser, applied to her face in gentle circular motions, wiped away the makeup and sweat from the day. Cool water splashed against her skin. Splashes of moments from the party entered her mind. Her mom’s absolute shock and then subsequent soft crying at the surprise. Stacey wrangled the girl power squad together for a group selfie. It would post onto the social medias before Stacey got well and fully sloshed. Cas pulled her to the side to give her a genuine, heartfelt thank you for the invitation. Jack assisted with the dish clearing without even having to be asked. Mom’s ancient, pudgy neighbor, Lydia, who didn’t move once from her seat under the patio, tugged at Julie’s wrist to tell her she needed to do a better job holding onto this man than the last one.
She patted away most of the wetness with a face towel. This man. She opened the medicine cabinet to put away some items and grab the moisturizer. Everything she disliked about her face on bright display under the bathroom lighting. The pads of her fingers danced over the circles under her eyes and some of the wrinkles forming around her mouth. All those old Italian women and their snarky little comments. Wondering what Dean’s doing with me. Even with all of his secrets and all that she still didn’t know, she still felt that tug of insecurity. Not being good enough. His imperfections, the cracks appearing over the months of infatuation and obsession with this man, were making themselves known. But they were all things she could handle and cast aside at the end of the day. Because all it took was that one second of his eyes locking with hers in that way. That very Dean way. Craving it in that moment, she hurried and worked the cream into her skin.
She entered the dark bedroom. The only illumination was from the television, the volume low and muffled. White light from the screen flashed like lightning over Dean, laid out on the still made bed.
He had slipped on the grey and blue plaid pajama bottoms Julie bought him. She picked them up as an afterthought one Sunday shopping when he’d started staying over a couple times a week. He came across them, folded and waiting, on the unspoken but understood side of Julie’s bed that was now his. A lopsided grin had been given as thanks.
There was a reason I didn’t buy him a shirt. A remote in hand rested on his tummy and that luscious bare chest. He cradled his head atop two pillows with his other palm; his biceps curled, primed, and ready for action. Legs crossed at the ankles and his foot swayed with an ancy rhythm. The image of him stretched out imprinted in her brain under the bright pops of light as if someone were taking lots of polaroids of this magnificent specimen.
He turned to her, smiled, then whispered, “Wanna watch something?” The remote was used as a pointing device toward the floor. “I can’t tell if that’s a chainsaw or your mom snoring.”
Julie nodded. “I told you, you can hear everything in this house.”
“Maybe soundproofing needs to be another project.” He frowned. “This is going to be torture.”
She giggled low and soft, hands on her hips, cinching in her oversized nightshirt. “Why?”
His fingers skirted over the comforter creeping in her direction. “Cause I want to make you moan like the other night.”
That very Dean way. The sexy stare made her smile drop. “Thought you were tired.”
“Come here, sweetheart.” He gave her a chin nod.
Julie sighed and eased onto the bed, aware of every creak and squeak. “Karen was right.”
“‘Bout what?” He opened an arm. His embrace clutched her to his warm chest.
She snuggled in. “You’re going to give me blushing bride syndrome.”
“A blushing what now?”
His lips pressed to hers cut off an immediate response. She nibbled on his chin when he released. “Too much sex. You know, can cause issues down there.”
He pulled back to study her face. “I’m not going to apologize for wanting you.”
“Not asking you to.” She pressed into him.
Mischief lined his lips. “Maybe I should take it easy on you. Give you a break. Since we have to be quiet and all.” He flashed the all-knowing, hot shit grin that stopped her heart. “I mean, we know you can’t keep that dirty little mouth of yours shut when mine’s all over you... or inside you.” His voice was husky and gritty, breathing near her ear.
“Oh, really?” She whispered her retort. “Who was the one panting and groaning last night about how hard he was going to come?”
Dean latched onto one of her knees. The pull dragged a thigh to rest over his hip. His warm hand traveled and danced along her skin. It snuck under the night shirt; pushed it high up past her waist. Fingers clutched at the top of her bare ass and kneaded. He shifted into her more and wedged their bodies tight. “Nah. You couldn’t have heard that. You were too busy screaming my name over and over.”
A jarring motor-like sound drifted up from Brigida’s bedroom for only a second. They froze in place. Dean chuckled. Tangled together, Julie rested a finger on his mouth. “Shhh.” She pressed into the softness of his perfect pout with more force and threw in a nose crinkle for good measure.
“I wasn’t going to say anything…” His lips struggled to release the words under her finger. Julie had learned early on upon their meeting that Dean enjoyed teasing out a variety of reactions from her.
She sighed and relented the tiny attempt at restraint. “What?”
“When you were in the bathroom earlier and I got a good listen of it all. Actually had something to compare it to.” He paused. “You snore like your mom.” His grin spread slow and wide, lips pursed tight.
Julie’s eyes widened on defense. “No, I don’t.”
“Yeah, you do.” He nodded, still grinning, lifting his brow for emphasis. “Get so loud.” A slight, controlled circling of those strong hips began. The motion matched the sensual rhythm of his verbal descriptions. “You start off so nice and quiet. Then it’s up. And up. And up. Like a freight train in here some nights, sweetheart.”
A few more seconds of silence followed. “Shit.” That was the only admission Julie would allow, listening to his description of her inherited sleeping habits while succumbing to the wondrous feel of his body lighting her up. “Don’t compare me to my mother while doing that, Dean.”
Dean laughed and gave her another chin nod in victory. “Still. Proves my point. Can’t help yourself. Way louder and noisier than I could ever be.”
Julie nuzzled close, finding the tunnel under his arm. Firm strokes down the slope of his back relished in the heat vibrating through his body. She ran a thumb back and forth over that plump pillow of a bottom lip. “You were the one that almost broke my headboard. Remember? Talk about noise.” And talk about fucking hot. “White knuckling it to get some leverage, slamming it into the wall.” His mouth parted and a hunger filled his gaze. She grinned at the erection hardening more in the pajamas against her patch of curls. “While you were slamming into me.”
He caught her thumb with a clench of teeth. His tongue flirted along the pad before he sucked at it with a low moan. His lips released it when he whispered back. “That was a memorable fuck, sweetheart. You under me. Letting me ride you so hard. Wish I could pound you like that for days. Wreck us both.”
“Jesus, Dean.” Julie moaned, rocking soft against his clothed cock.  “There wouldn’t be anything left of me.”
The hand left her ass, skirted under the shirt. Those meaty fingers landed on the curve of her breast and massaged into bliss. “But what a way to go.” He groaned, then peeled away enough to dip down and mouth a nipple through the shirt. “Shit, got me so hard.” He spoke between licks and sucks. “I wanna fuck you. All. The. Time.” The warmth and wet of his mouth soaked through to the taut nub. “All I could think about today was getting you alone. Here. Like this.” He nudged at the material with his nose to expose the dark, pebbly flesh to the air and his mouth. “Sliding inside you again. Nothin’ but me and you.” He suckled at her tit. When he came up for air and met her gaze, he whispered in that smoke and honey tone. “It feels like home inside you, Jules.”
Dean’s eyes lit up with another flash from the television. Glassy, eager and laser focused with intent. He always downplayed his ability to convey and verbalize feelings. But that confession, those six words - It feels like home inside you - made her whole body shiver. Like the night they’d first had sex. You feel so safe. It had been four little words back then. Not THOSE three little words. But it was pretty damn close.
“I think we should give ourselves a challenge.” The seriousness faded from his face, replaced with that impish grin. “A quiet, well contained, controlled fucking.”
Julie giggled, her body still buzzing from his actions and words. Her hands answered, pulling the pajamas down past his ass. He lifted up from the mattress an inch to assist with the disrobing. The fabric bunched around his knees.
He groaned when she tugged at his cock, free and rigid. She curled toes and peeled the material down far enough so he could shake his feet out the rest of the way. “Turn around, baby.” His voice held an authoritative tone. “Everything. Off.”
In the process of her slow and quiet one-eighty flip she rid herself of the nightshirt. The cool air in the room prickled at hot skin. He moaned at the sight. “That’s not being quiet.” She tisked.
He lassoed her in with a bear hug, onto her side, this time her back sealed along his chest. A haphazard pull at the band released the ponytail. His fingers brushed away strands. Searing lips attacked the exposed flesh of her neck. “Are you gonna be good for me?”
She stifled a moan and nodded.
“Hm.” Fingers slid into the folds, finding the wetness. “Very good so far.” He pushed farther in and searched. Circled her entrance. “All this for me already?” He groaned in her ear. “Goddamn, I wanna get my mouth on that. But we know you really can’t contain yourself when my face is between your legs.” Those fingers ended up at his mouth. She could smell her excitement, inches away. The sound of his lips sucking and his moans stoked her need. “Maybe a challenge for the morning.” He thought aloud.
His body, large and eclipsing, leaned up, shifting. His cock slid between the cheeks of Julie’s ass like a heat seeking missile. She let out a pitiful whine and bit her lip. They hadn’t even talked about that as an option. But every time his cock got tantalizingly close the thought had crossed her mind. She’d never wanted to try, not even with Steve. But Dean. Dean made her want to experience everything.
The sex with Dean had been many things over the past months: fun, playful, sweet, luxuriating, romantic, fast, rough, hard, naughty, and tons of dirty talk. Yet, none of that fifty shades stuff or roleplaying she had anticipated. Almost vanilla sex in comparison from what her mind could conjure up.
Almost, but never vanilla. Not with Dean. It was that French Vanilla ice cream that you’d get at a family owned creamery worth a two hour drive. One made by an artisan, churned by hand. One bursting with flecks of vanilla bean hitting all the taste buds. It was rich, creamy, indulgent, velvety, cool, lolling about on your tongue, savoring the flavor in the moment, crystalizing a memory for wonderful recollections.
Still, there was a palpable restraint by Dean, holding back, in terms of physical limits even if never in vocal declarations. Sometimes she thought she could feel the inner shift in Dean. It could be an imperceptible tell if their bodies weren’t so connected; a retraction of his muscles under that worn skin and the myriad of scars she would cling to in mounting desperation of the most amazing kind. He never out and out stated it. Dean never would. But she felt like the pilot in this jet when it came down to it. He was her trusty co-pilot, offering suggestions but always adhering to the final decision, charting her course, making sure she stayed on track, allowing her control. Allowing her safety.
“No one’s gonna be quiet if we give that a try tonight.” Dean read her mind, again keeping her on track with the original plan. He scooted down, cupping her figure with his. “Any other night, sweetheart, you let me know.” He dotted her back with kisses and wedged a knee between her legs. The motion splayed her bottom half, spreading her. His palm crooked under her knee, bent it just so. “But, this way.” The cock tip pressed at the entrance. “I think we can both get what we need and not wake sleeping beauty.” He licked little patches along her shoulder blade. “What’s that thing you always say?”
Jesus, why is he teasing me now? “When?” She huffed out.
“When you come over and decide to clean up my kitchen.”
“No muss, no fuss?”
He rumbled into her back and began the slide. Inside. “Yeah. That’s it. No Muss. No Fuss.” His large palm grabbed at her breast, latched onto it, thumbed the nipple. She could feel the strength of his hips guiding the wondrous length and girth of his cock. He bottomed into her and stopped. She wanted to feel how tight his ass was clenched in that moment. Sought it out with a hand and squeezed. “Hm.” He approved of the action. “How does that feel, sweetheart?” His voice, low, deep.
“You feel so good inside me Dean. You feel good everywhere.” She moaned when the controlled pistoning switched on.
“Hm. So, the quiet part is gonna be impossible for you, huh?”
She moaned again, softer, she thought. “This is me being quiet.”
“Baby?” He moaned out the question.
“Yeah?”
“Would you be alright if I helped keep you quiet?”
A fire lit up in her belly. “Yeah.”
He groaned. An arm threaded between her rocking body and the mattress. His hand slid up her chest, over her neck, her jaw. Settled over her mouth. “If it’s too much.” He panted. “If I get too carried away, you tap. Okay?”
She tapped his ass cheek to confirm she understood. Listened to his inhales and exhales. His thumb wedged between her upper lip and the underside of her nose. Two massive fingers clamped over her mouth. The other two had a firm grip under her chin, ensuring her lips stayed closed. All while he pumped in and out of her from behind, slow and purposeful.
“Feel so fucking good.” He whispered. His mouth pecked at her back, shoulder, her side, her arm, anywhere it could reach. “Four nights into your ‘I’m on the pill’ surprise.” He panted out his confession. “I’m sure I’m going to come down eventually, Jules. If that gives you some hope. About this blushing bride thing.” A soft growl left his mouth. “I mean, I’m no Superman.” She moaned into his hand when his pace and thrusts picked up. He was still very much in control and not rocking the bed like she knew he could. “But, I am Batman.” His chuckle vibrated into her back.
He shifted, circled, found that spot in her and focused all his energy. More muffled moans erupted from Julie.
“Shhh, sweetheart.” He used more of his palm against her mouth now, pressed harder against the flesh. “Be good for me.”
The subtle restraint was electric, increasing her pleasure tenfold. The sounds of her slick and his rutting inside her only made her more wet.
“I gotta feel you cum.” He begged. His other hand glided over the top of her thigh, rested against the mattress and palmed her pussy. “I’m gonna work you quick, baby. Okay?”
She nodded as much as she could with the hold of his hand.
He parted the folds, found her swollen clit and took no mercy. It was hard, fast. Explosions of light began popping into her brain. Her body jerked with slight tremors. It wouldn’t be long. “Yeah, that’s it. I love it when you come undone. Cum all over my cock.” Dean whispered.
His voice tipped her into the orgasm. She moaned, tightened, while he continued to pump.
“Yeah, right behind you, Julie. Yeah. Fuck.” And, he was, chasing her with his own orgasm. The pulsing of his cock, the spilling of him inside, warm, mingling with her wet he’d produced. His pants and groans against her back. His weight on her body, hand still cupping her mouth. “Man. I give us an A for effort. But, I wasn’t much better than you in the sound department. I might need a damn muzzle.”
Julie smiled into his palm.
“Sorry, baby.” He removed his hand from her mouth. “Should have tapped me. You okay?”
She nodded into the comforter. “Oh, yeah.” Eased onto her back. “Definitely. Can we do more of that?”
He laughed, staring with those beautiful eyes, crinkles extending the gleeful expression on his face. That very Dean way. “Sure.” He shrugged. “Just maybe not tonight?” He kissed her lips, then flashed her an exhausted smile. “I really am pretty beat. Been one helluva long day.”
Julie nodded. “Me too.” She tapped his forearm. “Bathroom again for me and then sleep.”
“Don’t be long.” He collapsed onto his back and closed his eyes.
She smiled, closing the bathroom door. He’d be asleep by the time she slipped back into bed. The sounds of his snores would cover a variety of animals from a grunting pig to a snarling lion. But she wouldn’t tease him in the morning about it. She promised to give him a pass.
