Can I request 23, 20 and 13 with Azriel? Please and thank you!
Reckless
Azriel x Fem!Reader
Warnings - mentions of blood and injury, fluff
Based on the below prompts:
It’s three in the morning. If even half of that blood is yours you need to sit down right now. I don’t like saying ‘I told you so’ but- The hell you don’t, it’s your favourite phrase.
Enjoy!
The ticking clock and the sky drowning in its sorrow was enough to warn you that Azriel was going to be late. A once roaring fire had long since extinguished, bright molten embers nothing but ash that trickled through the grate and dusted the base.
It wasn't often that you had a moment with your mate, a real evening away from your duties to your court, and when you did you both made sure to put the maximum amount of effort in. Whether it be long walks along the Sidra, or nights in cooking together which you would always commandeer, Azriel would never miss it, he'd never meaningfully skip a chance to see you.
As the clock chimed, you turned your head to see the ornate finger poking the invisible one and sighed, shaking your head and pitifully scraping the untouched dinner plates into the compost bin, leaving them on the counter to tend to in the morning.
The house felt cold without him, but even then you'd still complain that it was cold when he was right beside you just so that you could have his arms wrap around you securely, and you were sure that he knew about it from the sly smirk he would always give you before opening his arms to, chuckling to himself as you'd scurry into his embrace.
Azriel had sent nothing down the bond, which meant that he was busy, but he was so late, five hours late be exact and it made you feel on edge; every time he had been late in the past he would send a flurry of adoration and guilt down the bond to reassure you that he would return to you, but there was nothing but stone cold silence and shadow shrouded walls locking you out.
Twiddling the large rock on your ring finger you began the journey to your bedroom.
Rhys had insisted on buying yourself and Azriel your own home as a mating gift, but not only that, he wanted to thank you your loyalty and the personal sacrifices you had both made to protect them and the Night Court, Azriel as his Spymaster and you as Prythian's best healer; that came in the form of a two-story town house on the outskirts of Velaris, far enough to have your own space, but still close enough so that you'd be available if you were needed.
The home was a perfect myriad of you both, deep blue armchairs and dark oaken floors, bookshelves packed full of Azriel's tomes and research with your own passion pieces littered between them. The kitchen was very much made for you, a large stove, hooks for all of your strangely carved mugs, a pantry to die for which you always strived to keep fully stocked. Cookbooks stood along the windowsill and a pair of weighing scales sat before them, ready to be thrown into another one of your culinary adventures.
You weren't sure sometimes if Azriel was more excited to be mated with you or eat the food you had offered him that night.
The bedroom was missing its other inhabitant, evident in the dim glow from a single flickering candle that made little to no movement as you entered, frowning and going about to reset the room, putting away the massage oils and peeling back the comforter to climb into its shivering embrace.
You weren't sure how much time had passed before you had heard him, scuffing his feet along the floor of the lounge and stopping, no doubt peering about at the effort you had made for date night, and you heard him sigh before his feet hit the steps heavily.
His scent had always flooded you, but you weren't a happy mate in that moment as you curled onto your side with your back facing the door. A cold breeze drifted in from the world he had brought into your home with him, "Angel..." his voice was quiet, pained, you could tell he was feeling guilty.
"It's three in the morning," you grumbled, staring out at the crescent moon beyond the paned window, your fingers brushing through the unbound hair that had fallen over your neck.
Then it hit you, the all to familiar metallic smell that you had become so accustomed to, so accustomed to that you hardly ever realised it was near unless there was copious amounts of it. Sniffing deeply, you rolled onto your back and propped yourself up on your elbows, examining your mate who was stood in the doorway with his head hung low.
From where you lay, you could see the blood glistening in the moonlight as his hand lay stuck to the doorknob. Shallow breaths passed through his lips and he winced at each one, then he tilted his head back and you saw him, and you gasped. His bottom lip was busted, blood leaked from it as it did from the cut to his brow, his hair was tussled and matted, his eyes were dark and dreary.
"If even half of that blood is yours you need to sit down right now," you threw the covers off of you and moved toward him, taking his face in your hands and looking into his eyes.
Azriel winced with every step he took toward the edge of your bed, usually you'd tell him off for mucking up the sheets, but you didn't say another word as you flitted about the room and gathered your usual supplied from the bathroom before settling onto your knees in front of him.
He knew that you were internally cursing him for getting himself into that state, you had told him endlessly to be careful, to listen to his shadows and leave if things seemed more sinister than usual. This particular mission had not been one that you had agreed with at all, but you had little say in the details of his career, he knew what he was doing and you usually trusted that.
It had only been a few days prior that you had told him that he needed to slow down, that you knew he wanted to do all he could to protect you and his home, that you couldn't think about bearing his child until he did. The thought of being a single mother terrified you, you had been very truthful about it, how you were so afraid that one day he might now return to you and you wouldn't be able to care for another life let alone your own.
Azriel hissed as you dabbed a cotton pad of alcohol to his bottom lip, doing your best to be gentle with him. You had muttered a small sorry, but when he surveyed your face, he saw unfiltered fear in your eyes, and he knew you were thinking about the worst case scenario.
You knew better than to ask for details, he wasn't the most open of males, but he was trying to be, for you. He had told you some details of the mission and you had expressed your ill feeling toward it, you had told him it felt too dangerous.
Your mate happily accepted the tonic you had given him to keep the pain at bay whilst you worked, pressing your fingers to his cuts and bruises and allowing your healing glow to fix him. You were from the Dawn Court, you were Thesan's most gifted healer, and you had healed Azriel when he crashed into your court after being hit by an ash arrow by some grounded assassins, from that moment there was no place he would allow you to be than right beside him.
"I didn't feel you," you muttered with a strained voice, clearly trying to hold back your tears, you had seen your mate in some terrible ways, but this had to be one of the worst.
"Fae bane," he hummed in discomfort when you moved your palms to the entrance wound of a knife no doubt, closing your eyes and allowing your power to float into him, your essence entangling itself with his own and mending every broken tendril of shadow, "You were right, I shouldn't have gone. Nothing about it felt right and I didn't listen to you."
"I don't like saying I told you so, but-"
"The hell you don't, it's your favourite phrase," it was no time to laugh but you smirked at his quip, one that he mirrored, and you knew then that he was going to be absolutely fine.
Azriel's face was clean from the cuts and bruises, and he looked physically relieved as he rolled his shoulders and his shadows came out to say hello, slithering up your arms and kissing your cheeks in thanks. His fingers grasped the backs of your thighs as you did a final check over, his touch sending lightening spreading through your body, and he pressed his lips along your collarbone, humming as he drank in your scent and felt peace consume him.
"I'm sorry for missing tonight, I'll make it up to you I promise," he mumbled against your skin, "You have me all week. I'm going to tell Rhys that I'm going to take it easier from now on. I want to focus on us, on you."
Hazel pools of serene bliss flowed into you and you kissed him, softly just in case he winced, a ghosting things that left him needed more, "You know how you could make it up to me right now?"
Azriel's eyes darkened with desire, pulling you closer, you placed your hands on his chest and pushed him back a few inches, smirking at his confusion, "You can take a shower, you stink and you're covered in blood," Azriel's face fell and you laughed, a pure and playful thing as you peered to where he was sat, "I'll change the sheets whilst you do. I cannot sleep with blood on the sheets, especially when I'm not sure if it's even yours."
Your mate rolled his eyes and stood, swaying over to the bathroom whilst peeling his leathers from his body, he lingered in the doorway and gazed back at you still kneeling at the foot of the bed, smirking, he drawled "It's not."
When he had returned, free from blood and smelling of his usual cedar musk, he climbed into the freshly made bed and pulled you close to his chest, inhaling the coconut from your shampoo as he buried his face into the crook of your neck.
"Does this mean I get to put a baby in you now?" Azriel's eyes drifted closed, willing a certain dream to infiltrate his consciousness as sleep began to consumed him, dragging him down into its embrace as you soothed out any tension in his body as you allowed your hands to trickle down his arms and over his chest. Sleepily and with a dragging tone that told you he was moments away from slipping into another world entirely, he spoke softly, "It's my favourite dream."

Dead Signal [Chapter 1/?]
*sigh* Did my squirrelly ass cave and add YET ANOTHER WIP to the Eternal Pile?
Yes. Yes I did. Thanks, Finding Frankie.
[CW for suicidal ideation]
~*~
There were a lot of things, Felicity Faustus mused, that had led up to standing in line to buy a bus ticket at three o'clock in the morning.
Like a decade and change spent trying to make it in broadcast media, but never actually going anywhere because they "weren't camera-friendly enough."
Like struggling to stay afloat as rent and bills continued to rise, while they were denied raises time and time again even as less-experienced coworkers advanced ahead of them and their other job applications continued to go unanswered.
Felicity had always been a scrapper - it had gotten them into trouble more times than they could count as a kid - but as the months crept by, they felt the fight leaving them as the proverbial water closed over their head.
They would have been lying if they'd tried to say that they hadn't been tempted to end it all more than a few times. The means to their end were plentiful, and it would have been easy to pick one and make use of it.
They'd just never been able to work up the guts necessary to do it.
Instead, they'd aimlessly gone looking for solace in their favorite cult game show, even as they sank deeper and deeper into despair. But cartoons and livestreamed events weren't much of a life preserver when the rest of their life was falling apart around them.
But then, just as they were teetering on the literal razor's edge, the semi-regular announcement was made that Finding Frankie was looking for another batch of contestants.
Four tapes. Four boxes of cereal.
And maybe, just maybe, Felicity had cracked, just a little bit.
In a fit of mad desperation, they'd run up their last remaining credit card buying cart loads of cereal and then, once that had maxed out, resorted to shoplifting even more cereal than they would ever be able to eat. They were pretty sure that they were on some kind of list for that.
They'd only had to open one, though. Just one, to make sure there was nothing hidden at the bottom. After that point, their kitchen scale had been their best friend, looking for one box that weighed a few ounces more than the rest.
The laser-focused obsession had paid off, after four whole months of diligent (obsessive) searching, when they'd finally scored that coveted VHS tape - and their ticket out of this hole in the wall.
(It had paid off for their neighbors, too. All the unopened boxes got dumped in the run-down "community room" of their slummy little apartment building, and they were always gone by the next afternoon.)
They'd spent half of a breathless, sleepless night tossing and turning after that, their heart hammering like thunder in their ears, before ultimately deciding that it didn't make sense to wait.
(It didn't matter that the show wouldn't be airing for another week, and they had plenty of time. Nothing mattered anymore, why should time?)
They'd rolled out of bed, taken a quick, cold shower and gotten dressed, then stuffed their wallet and cell phone into their thigh bag and their Swiss Army knife into their binder, grabbed their jacket, and hurried downstairs to catch a bus to the Port Authority terminal.
"What can I help you with?" The woman behind the counter sounded as exhausted as she looked.
"Can you tell me when the next bus to Dallas leaves?"
The woman stifled a yawn and turned her attention to her computer monitor, tapping away on the keyboard and squinting at the information that her query brought up. "…Eight-thirty A.M. There are only three seats left, did you want to reserve one?"
"Yes, please."
More tapping, more squinting; maybe she needed to schedule an eye exam, Felicity thought to themself.
"That'll be… Four hundred and sixty dollars and seventy-seven cents."
This time, they had to stifle a groan, fishing their wallet out and handing over their debit card.
It was going to use up most of the pitiful little emergency fund they had left in their checking account, but it didn't matter. None of it mattered anymore - not the money, not the debt, not the job or the apartment or anything. Either they were going to win, and the prize money would make everything right again, or they were going to die, and none of their problems would be their problem anymore.
"Credit or debit?"
"Debit."
More tapping; it felt incessant now.
And then there were signatures to be signed, scrawled barely-legible onto the little OLED tablet screen.
And then the ticket was in their hand.
And, just for a moment, the weight of the world lifted off of their shoulders.

congrats on 200 followers!! can i request a death note, light yagami x reader with prompt number 5, “Are you trying to flirt with me?” dawn please? <33
Thank you! Just a dumb little drabble <3
-
You watch as he enters the shop and performs his now regular routine. He always has the same focused look as he does it – it’s a straight beeline to the apple display, his right hand reaching out to grab a paper bag before he methodically picks out six of the juiciest-looking red apples and places them inside. He then rolls the top of the bag up and approaches the counter. It’s the fifth day in a row he’s done this and you decide enough is enough - you’re finally going to ask.
He places down the bag on the counter and opens his mouth to say his usual spiel about what he’s purchased, as if you hadn’t seen him pick them out – the store is always quiet at this time, it’s not like there was much else to look at but the fine gentleman making fruit purchases - but you cut him off.
“Are you trying to flirt with me?”
The brunette’s face cheeks flush as red as the apples. “E-excuse me?”
“Come on,” you place your elbows on the counter, rest your head in your hands and lean forward. “You’ve been in here every day this week, always when I’m on the till and you always buy six of the exact same apples.”
“Yeah?” He seems to have recovered enough from your abrupt question for a smug smile to grace his lips. Your heart speeds up a little – there was no denying he was attractive and, of course, he was very aware of the fact. “Maybe I just really like apples.”
You scoff. “No-one likes apples that much.”
“Ah, how can you be so sure?” He places his hands flat down on the counter and leans forward now, maintaining eye contact.
“Well, this is my family’s store, I’ve worked here for years and no-one has ever demonstrated this sort of apple-buying mania.” You pick up the paper bag and place it on the weighing scale, before stating the price and holding your hand out in anticipation of payment.
“Maybe my family really likes apples.” He counters, placing the money in your hand. His fingers linger a moment longer than necessary in the transaction.
“I did consider that,” you admit, dropping the money into the register, “but you’d buy more at a time than you do. Plus, your outfit – smartly dressed. The university’s not so far from here, so I assume you must be a student there, and our shop isn’t exactly on a main thoroughfare there or back. You clearly have to come out of your way to visit, but why so often? After consideration, I’m the only common denominator here.”
“You’re very confident in your conclusion.”
“I imagine that contributes to the attraction.” You shrug.
“Now, I didn’t say that…” His eyes drop down and he finishes his sentence with your name – it’s embroidered across the front of your apron. How did it sound so good coming from his lips?
“You don’t need to say, apple boy.”
There’s an amused eyebrow raise at that. “Apple boy?”
“Well, only one of us is wearing a name tag, so I had to improvise.”
“I suppose you did.” There it is again – the smirk. “So, come clean.” The longer this back and forth is going, a small seed of doubt is growing in your stomach. What if his family are just some sort of apple obsessives? “Are you trying to flirt with me…?” You trail off, hoping for his name.
“Let’s just say I believe your observational skills might be wasted in fruit retail.” He winks as he deftly snatches the paper bag up off the counter and strides towards the door – his coat almost billowing behind him. Just as he’s about to step over the threshold, he pauses, thoughtfully, “Though I think if I were to return tomorrow for something besides transactional, I’d prefer you call me Light.”

Well, I woke up very this morning after consuming another massive meal before bed. I was very stuffed last night before bed. Everything was packed in nice and tight and legitimately one bite away from rolling into the sickness zone. But I didn't like the good greedy girl I am, I took my belly filled with an enormous 28-oz steak straight to bed for the relaxing to begin. I did not get up after that point. I fell asleep at some point, only to wake up feeling things starting to lose up. Only 1.75 hours later. In my mind, there is no way I could have been able to digest or even begun to digest that much food that fast. So I decided to roll over and go back to sleep before my brain caught on and kept me up the rest of the night.
Now in an effort to help me keep an eye on what I am consuming i downloaded that diet diary ap thingy. I also put a step counter on my phone so that I could be more accurate at the end of my days and see where I am headed and if it is in the right direction. Now here is the first confusing thing. It restarts the count at midnight. How is it that by 8am I have over 180 steps already? I know I get up to use the facilities, but it is legit maybe 10 steps from my bedroom? I am not too worried a out caloric wastage there because 182 steps is only 16.7 calories, but 182 steps is just unreal considering when I went to sleep the idea of 2 steps was 2 too many.
My bigger confusion though. My big round drum of a belly ball. It feels loose, but I still feel full. It has deflafed considerably, i did a full poke, grab and giggle test. It's definitely ready for more. but when I stadted to move around a bit it is definitely a lot heavier than usual. Curiousity got me so got up and stuffed myself into my do nothing weekend pants it really feels a lot weightier. I feel hungry again, I mean my belly is barking at me quite loudly. Gurgles and grumbles galore, but my appetite is not quite there yet. I know if I put my mind to it I could fill it back up, but I also know enough that I still need a bit of time. But back to the curious part. I stole the scale from my feeder and weighed myself 3 times to confirm. I have gone DOWN 2.2lbs on the scale. I ate 2.2lbs of food just before bed??!!
What the heck is happening here? Are all my efforts in vain? Or am I just still having a steak fever dream and should go back to bed and just rest some more? I want to get my one errand of buying new pants over before the mall gets too busy.
Maybe I am just stressing about how many sizes up I will need to go into order to be comfortable at home and work. I found out that my old brand of jeans has added a proper plus sized (I hate that word) line all the way up to size 30, so I may be spared from maternity shopping. But the mall has since opened up another shop that could also probably have my correct sizes, too. I have come to realize that it has been over 7 years since I last bought a pair of jeans. I have to do a full new set of measurements because the size I think that still fits me really doesn't and I don't just want more of the same issue I have now.
Maybe shopping while a little stuffed is the safest option? It is not like I am not going to put more weight on. Perhaps I should buy 2 pair at the right size and one a little bigger for my "fat days" even though I think they are gonna be more like my perfect fit goals.
Wow, deep thoughts for this hungry, but not hungry, stuffed but not stuffed, round but feeling deflated girl. There is definitely something happening in there. I just don't know what. I got out of breath making the bed, and now I can't get up from my current position in bed because I fell into one of my divets. Ugh. It's a good thing I brought some snacks so I could get this all out. If I get back to fully stuffed again. I can just roll like a ball out of bed... right?

DID YOU KNOW THIS?
Coffee filters .... Who knew! And you can buy 1,000 at the Dollar Tree for almost nothing even the large ones.
1. Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the microwave. Coffee filters make excellent covers.
2. Clean windows, mirrors, and chrome... Coffee filters are lint-free so they'll leave windows sparkling.
3. Protect China by separating your good dishes with a coffee filter between each dish.
4. Filter broken cork from wine. If you break the cork when opening a wine bottle, filter the wine through a coffee filter.
5. Protect a cast-iron skillet. Place a coffee filter in the skillet to absorb moisture and prevent rust.
6. Apply shoe polish. Ball up a lint-free coffee filter.
7. Recycle frying oil. After frying, strain oil through a sieve lined with a coffee filter.
8. Weigh chopped foods. Place chopped ingredients in a coffee filter on a kitchen scale.
9. Hold tacos. Coffee filters make convenient wrappers for messy foods.
10. Stop the soil from leaking out of a plant pot. Line a plant pot with a coffee filter to prevent the soil from going through the drainage holes.
11.. Prevent a Popsicle from dripping. Poke one or two holes as needed in a coffee filter.
12. Do you think we used expensive strips to wax eyebrows? Use strips of coffee filters..
13. Put a few in a plate and put your fried bacon, French fries, chicken fingers, etc on them. It soaks out all the grease.
14. Keep in the bathroom. They make great "razor nick fixers."
15. As a sewing backing. Use a filter as an easy-to-tear backing for embroidering or appliqueing soft fabrics.
16. Put baking soda into a coffee filter and insert into shoes or a closet to absorb or prevent odors.
17. Use them to strain soup stock and to tie fresh herbs in to put in soups and stews.
18. Use a coffee filter to prevent spilling when you add fluids to your car.
19. Use them as a spoon rest while cooking and clean up small counter spills.
20. Can use to hold dry ingredients when baking or when cutting a piece of fruit or veggies.. Saves on having extra bowls to wash.
21. Use them to wrap Christmas ornaments for storage.
22. Use them to remove fingernail polish when out of cotton balls.
23. Use them to sprout seeds.. Simply dampen the coffee filter, place seeds inside, fold it and place it into a plastic baggie until they sprout.
24. Use coffee filters as blotting paper for pressed flowers. Place the flowers between two coffee filters and put the coffee filters in phone book..
25. Use as a disposable "snack bowl" for popcorn, chips, etc.
Not just for coffee--☕

How to send Parcel Through Royal Mail 2nd Class Post
Sending a parcel through Royal Mail 2nd Class is a straightforward process designed to be accessible for both individuals and businesses. This service is known for its affordability and reliable delivery within 2-3 working days across the UK. Here’s a detailed guide on how to send a parcel through Royal Mail 2nd Class post, covering every step from preparation to tracking.
Step 1: Preparing Your Parcel
1. Choose the Right Packaging:
Select appropriate packaging for your item. Use sturdy boxes or padded envelopes that can withstand handling during transit. Ensure that the packaging is durable enough to protect the contents from damage.
Royal Mail offers a variety of packaging materials at their Post Office locations, or you can use your own. Make sure the parcel is sealed securely with strong tape.
2. Measure and Weigh Your Parcel:
Accurate measurements of the parcel’s dimensions (length, width, and height) and weight are essential. This information will determine the postage cost. Use a reliable scale and measuring tape for accuracy.
Royal Mail provides online tools to calculate postage based on these dimensions, making it easier to determine the cost before you visit the Post Office.
3. Addressing Your Parcel:
Clearly write the recipient’s full address, including postcode, on the parcel. Ensure that the address is legible and includes any necessary additional information, such as a building name or apartment number.
Include a return address on the parcel in case it needs to be returned to you for any reason.
Step 2: Choosing the Right Postage
1. Visit the Royal Mail Website:
Use Royal Mail’s online postage calculator to get an estimate of the postage cost for your 2nd Class parcel. This tool allows you to input the weight and dimensions of your parcel to find out the exact cost.
You can also compare different services to ensure that 2nd Class post is the best option for your needs.
2. Purchase Postage Online or at the Post Office:
Postage can be purchased directly from the Royal Mail website, where you can print the postage label at home. Alternatively, you can buy postage at any Post Office branch.
If you choose to buy online, follow the instructions to print and affix the label to your parcel. Ensure that the barcode is clear and unobstructed for easy scanning.
Step 3: Sending Your Parcel
1. Drop Off at the Post Office:
Take your parcel to the nearest Post Office. Hand it over to the counter staff who will weigh and measure it to confirm the correct postage has been paid.
If you have purchased and printed your postage online, you can simply drop the parcel off.
2. Post Box Drop Off (Small Parcels Only):
For small parcels that meet specific size and weight criteria, you can drop them in a standard post box. However, it is generally advisable to use the Post Office to ensure proper handling and receipt.
Step 4: Tracking and Proof of Postage
1. Request Proof of Postage:
Always request a proof of postage receipt when you hand over your parcel at the Post Office. This receipt is crucial for tracking your parcel and as evidence in case of any delivery issues.
Proof of postage includes the date, recipient address, and unique tracking number.
2. Tracking Your Parcel:
While Royal Mail 2nd Class post does not include full tracking by default, you can add a tracking service for an additional fee. This upgrade provides peace of mind by allowing you to monitor the parcel’s journey to its destination.
Use the tracking number on the Royal Mail website or app to check the status of your parcel.
Step 5: Delivery and Confirmation
1. Delivery Timeframe:
Royal Mail 2nd Class post aims to deliver parcels within 2-3 working days. This timeframe is an estimate and can vary depending on factors like location and volume of mail.
The recipient does not need to be present for delivery, and the parcel will be left in a safe place if no one is home.
2. Delivery Confirmation:
If you have opted for a tracking service, you will receive confirmation of delivery, including the date and time of delivery.
For untracked 2nd Class post, delivery confirmation can be checked through the recipient.
Additional Considerations
1. Insuring Valuable Items:
For valuable or fragile items, consider adding insurance or using a service that includes compensation in case of loss or damage. Royal Mail offers various levels of compensation depending on the value of the item.
2. Special Handling Requirements:
If your parcel requires special handling (e.g., fragile items), clearly mark this on the parcel and inform the Post Office staff to ensure it is treated accordingly.
3. International Shipping:
Note that Royal Mail 2nd Class post is for domestic deliveries within the UK. For international parcels, Royal Mail offers a variety of other services tailored to different destinations and delivery speeds.
Conclusion
Sending a parcel through Royal Mail 2nd Class post is an efficient and cost-effective method for domestic mailing. By following these steps—preparing your parcel correctly, choosing the right postage, dropping it off at the Post Office, tracking the delivery, and considering additional options like insurance—you can ensure that your parcel reaches its destination safely and promptly. This method is ideal for everyday sending needs, offering a balance of affordability and reliability that suits a wide range of users.

Kitchen Scales: Complete Buying Guide
Points to Consider while Buying a Kitchen Scale
Kitchen scales are used to weigh ingredients accurately so you won't have to guess what you're weighing. You can use them for cooking or baking ingredients to accurately measure the amount of food you need as per dietary requirements. Several European recipes call for the use of weighted ingredients. Kitchen scales are useful for every cook, no matter where they live.
Here are six tips that will make your task of finding the best kitchen scale according to your requirements much easier.
Tip 1: Digital vs. Analog
Scales for the kitchen come in two varieties. The weight is shown by a rotating pin on an analog scale. The inside spring of the scale acts as the resistance. The weight is displayed digitally on a digital readout on electronic or digital scales. Some models can also store data, which is an added capability. The maximum modern kitchen scales are digital. Usually, digital readouts display decimal values accurate to tenths of a unit.
Tip 2: Sensitivity and Capacity
When choosing a scale for the kitchen, you should consider which foods you will most likely weigh. For weighing light items such as herbs, spices, and nuts, especially sensitive scales are ideal. There are also scales that can handle up to 25 pounds of weight. Weights such as whole poultry and larger cuts of meat are appropriate for the latter scales.
Tip 3: Advanced Digital Features
If you have certain goals in mind, digital scales offer a wide range of features. In addition to switching between different units of measurement on the machine, it can handle pounds, ounces, grams, and kilograms. One helpful feature of a scale is its tare function, which shows only the weight of the contents when the container is neutralized. Additionally, some models come with baker's timers and clocks.
You can also select a scale that will report the calories in different foods. Models like these let you enter your own food items and recipes, and some come with calorie-tracking memory features.
Tip 4: Container and Platform
The size of platforms varies. When you're shopping for a scale, it is often best to get one with a large platform so that you can weigh a wide variety of foods. In addition to having a scale with a container that holds the food for weighing, you should also choose one with a container that holds the wet or dry ingredients. The container should be removable for easy cleaning. A measuring bowl attachment is included with some models, which facilitates the measurement of ingredients.
Tip 5: Clear Display
There are different types of digital displays. Some models have small displays that are hard to read, so make sure you test each model and choose one with a large display. Make sure the display doesn't get obscured by the items you are weighing when you cover the scale. Pull-out displays are available on some scales to facilitate reading.
Tip 6: Design and Ease of Storage
Choosing a scale that fits well and adds to the look of your kitchen is extremely important if you store it on your counter. Stainless steel is available in many styles, which will give your kitchen a sleek look. You can now choose a model that matches your dietary needs and improves your cooking experience after comparing all the differences between kitchen scales.

Days 18/19 - 21-22 March
As I said so long ago, a 5am start it certainly was! We dressed quickly, closed our cases again, and went down for a light breakfast.
Then there was the quick walk to the terminal and through the check-in and bag drop pretty smoothly. We had to weigh our bags and one was 17 kilos but the other was 24.9 - with a limit of 23. We had a texting conversation with a Spanish-speaking assistant, using our phones and Google Translate, and were told we would have to go to a different counter to pay for excess luggage. On arrival there, the bag was reweighed, this time weighing only 23.6 kilos, so we were waved through with no charge. Amazing how much weight a bag can lose during a five-metre trip from one set of scales to the next!
Then we were just in time to join the three hundred metre queue for the absurd security check - which we failed. The queue moved amazingly quickly but both our carry-on bags had weapons in them - dangerous implements like plastic knives (almost identical with the ones they give we rabid terrorists on the plane) and shaving cream. There were a few items that we had packed in the wrong bags - our fault - due to us having to find places for the extra stuff we had to buy in BA and accidentally putting some things in carry-on that we usually stow in our big cases. But they are very inconsistent. This was our third flight with the exact same items packed the same way and they went through the previous examinations without question. Also, on the Concepcion/Santiago leg, they wanted to take our hiking sticks off us until we won the argument that we needed them to walk safely - which of course was stretching the truth, especially because they were a positive risk on the smooth hard floors, but these new ones don’t fit well in our bags. One aerosol item (Odor-eater spray) was confiscated but they wrote up a form about it. It is in Spanish so we have no idea what it is about, but I suspect it may be an authority to collect it at the end of the flight (I have heard of that happening before, although not recently). If so, why only the one item? Why not let us collect all ten or fifteen items in Calama? Stupidity on stupidity? (We subsequently asked a steward on the plane to interpret the document for us and he said it simply said that our Odor-eater had been confiscated as a dangerous weapon – with no mention of the other items that had been confiscated. – Insane!)
I accept that some level of security is necessary due to the few crazies out there, but they always ask if our big bags contain any explosives - as if any self-respecting terrorist would be stupid enough to declare a bag of bombs - and when we say ‘No!!’, the bags sail through quite smoothly – with or without their explosive contents. The bag check is obviously just ticking boxes. The items they confiscate could present no more risk than the pens we carry, or the glasses we wear, and they are deep in bags within bags in our carry-on, so if we intended to use any of them to create havoc on board, at least ten people would report us to the cabin crew before we were even able to extract the items from our bags. The whole thing is an absolute farce.
At Calama, we were out of the plane and through to the baggage collection area in no time – just in time to see our bags disappear back behind the curtain with only one other bag on the carousel. Ours came around again within a minute and by then the other bag had gone too. Within about ten minutes of the plane landing, all the baggage had been collected so I am pretty sure that very few passengers had anything other than carry-on bags. Many of the passengers looked and dressed like workmen, so maybe we were on a commuter flight.
Our driver was waiting to drive us the hundred-plus kilometres to our hotel in San Pedro de Atacama. He was supposed to be an English-speaking guide but he uttered less than ten words and a grunt or two in total when greeting us, directing us to his van, loading and unloading our bags and farewelling us. The big strong silent type.
We were definitely in the desert and for the first half of the trip, we didn’t see as much as a blade of grass. The desert was pebbly and sandy and almost featureless as we drove more or less east away from the Andes. We saw a few trucks on a parallel road early in the trip, all dragging at least a kilometre of dense orange dust behind them.
For the first few kilometres, we drove through a massive wind farm with at least a thousand generators and a solar panel array that went on for quite a few kilometres. We started the trip at an altitude of about a thousand metres above the top of Mt Kosciuszko (2228 metres) and climbed to almost exactly 4000 metres before plunging back to 3160 metres at San Pedro. We were tracking our path and altitude on our phone apps.
The only wildlife we saw was a lonely llama/alpaca/guanaco/vicuna silhouetted on a ridge just off the road as we neared San Pedro – at least it looked like a llama, but in the absence of anything much to eat, it may have been a cardboard cut-out set up to fool the tourists. In fairness, as we neared the town, there was a bit of vegetation and a small creek, presumably of meltwater, ran under a bridge as we drove into the township proper. The town originally developed around an oasis.
The town looks a lot like those we see in western movies – adobe houses, adobe walls around buildings and fields, sparce spindly trees, and people roaming the dusty streets with seemingly nothing much to do. We saw hausos (Chilean gauchos) riding their horses through the streets and one guy leading his llama – but he wanted money to let us take a photo, so maybe that was his mobile business. There are lots of little businesses, with doors or windows open, flush with the ‘footpaths’, touting for trade. There are also lots of identical buildings, all flush against each other where the windows are closed so we assume they are private houses. And many small restaurants, again just a doorway off the street, but with a colourful sign advertising food in Spanish.
Once we were booked in at our hotel, we had a few hours to kill before our room was ready and the owner suggested a few places within walking distance where we could go for lunch. We walked down the main street, maybe close to a kilometre, but had to stop in the shade several times due to the heat – and our ‘puffedoutedness’ due to the altitude. Heather is suffering worse than me, but I have managed fairly well. My cold has not helped and I am constantly coughing, but I am doing OK – a little breathless after exertion (lifting our bags, for example), an occasional headache and a slight sense of light-headedness that makes me feel a bit unstable. Heather is much the same, but more so and is quite lethargic. We are on altitude pills so we expect the symptoms to settle down fairly quickly. (Later update: Our vision and my hearing are all adversely effected and far from acclimatising, I think we are worse at the end of the trip than at the beginning. I am not sleeping well. As I relax and start falling asleep, my breathing slows and becomes shallower and my body rattles me awake in a panic and instructs me to breathe more deeply. We are both looking forward to returning to sea level!)
We had a couple of small pizzas at a cantina for lunch and had the leftovers for dinner, but neither of us was hungry (another symptom of altitude sickness!) so some of it still went into the bin. And there was a great thunderstorm here that lasted about four or five hours. I didn’t see much lightning, but the thunder was very impressive and there are big puddles everywhere this morning, so maybe we brought some unaccustomed rain to town with us.
Day 19 - Wednesday, 22 March
We had a slow start with breakfast in the dining room a bit after 8am – our tour pickup time was not unto 3.30 pm.
Heather got a message at 3.20pm to say the trip was off due to the National Park being closed after heavy rain made most of the roads impassable. We were pretty annoyed at the short notice, having sat around all day, unable to do anything, waiting for information, but a side benefit of this was that Heather found out how to use Whatsapp – the common tool of the tourist industry in South America. Of course, it still doesn’t help if you don’t have reasonable Wi-Fi access, but it has proved itself worthwhile a few times since.
We ate in the hotel restaurant at night and had an early night after a very frustrating and disappointing day.

How Many Teaspoons Are in a Cup?
When you're cooking or baking, you need to measure ingredients accurately for recipes that turn out perfect every time. That means knowing how many teaspoons are in a cup.
Getting the portions right can be a tricky part of any recipe, especially when it comes to measuring dry ingredients like flour or sugar. But it doesn't have to be!
Measuring spoons
Using measuring spoons is one of the most popular ways to measure ingredients when cooking. Measuring spoons come in a variety of sizes and are usually made of metal or plastic. They can also be used for liquid or dry ingredients.
Most people know that the standard size of a measuring spoon is 1/8 teaspoon, but some sets include even smaller ones, like 1/4 teaspoon and 1/2 teaspoon. You might even see a set that measures "a pinch," a "smidge" or "a dash." These are not standardized measurements, and you will have to use your own judgment to determine which one is right for your recipe.
There are a few things to consider when choosing the best measuring spoons for you: What type of handle do you prefer? Some cooks prefer short handles that are easy to grip between two fingers, while others like longer handles that are easier to hold.
The type of handle on a measuring spoon is an important consideration because it will affect how comfortable you are using it. If you are a person who likes to have a good grip, then look for a handle that has a thin, sharp edge or a flat shape.
This makes it easier for you to scoop up the correct amount of liquids or dry ingredients when preparing a recipe. Many cooks like to have a few different sets of measuring spoons, so that they can measure both liquids and dry ingredients separately.
Measuring spoons are useful for cooking and baking because they allow you to measure small amounts of ingredients by volume quickly and accurately. This will ensure that you get consistent results every time you use a recipe.
Regardless of the kind of measuring spoons you choose, it is always a good idea to keep them clean so that they are working at their best. Measuring spoons should be washed with warm, soapy water and dried with a clean towel. They should be put away in a drawer and not left out where they might get stepped on or knocked over.
Kitchen scales
A kitchen scale can help you measure ingredients for recipes or determine portion sizes of meals. It can also be helpful for weighing your weight or following a diet plan. You can find kitchen scales at most stores and online retailers.
Digital scales are a popular choice for measuring, with many models available in different colors and materials. Some are portable, while others need to be firmly secured on your counter. They often come with a removable tray, making it easier to weigh your ingredients directly in the bowl or dish on the scale platform.
Stainless steel kitchen scales are durable and easy to clean. They are also sleek and stylish. They are great for busy cooks because they’re so sturdy and can handle the rigors of a home kitchen.
Some digital scales have a tare function, which resets the scale’s reading to zero when you measure ingredients with varying weights. This feature is handy for measuring ingredients that are mixed together, such as flour and sugar.
In general, the most important thing to consider when buying a kitchen scale is its accuracy. If the scale is off by even a milligram, it can greatly affect the outcome of your meal.
You should also look for a model with a large digital display that’s easy to read, even when covered with items to be weighed. A large digital display will also be more visible if the scale is placed on your counter top or shelf.
The best way to make sure you’re getting an accurate scale is to calibrate it on a flat surface every now and then. This can be done by placing a calibration weight or a U.S. nickel on the platform and observing whether it gives you an accurate reading.
A kitchen scale can be a great addition to any home kitchen, especially if you’re a baker. It can make your baking process more precise, and it’s also a lot quicker than measuring by volume. It can help you save time and money by ensuring you use the right amount of each ingredient in your recipe.
Conversion table
There are many different cooking and baking recipes that call for teaspoons or cups as the primary measure. Knowing how many teaspoons are in a cup is essential for making sure you use the proper amount of ingredients and ensuring that your dishes turn out perfectly every time!
The conversion table is a handy tool that can help you get the exact amount of ingredients in a recipe. It includes a range of US teaspoons and a range of cups, so you can get the right amount of any ingredient in no time.
To convert from cups to teaspoons, you simply multiply the value in cups by the conversion ratio of 48. This makes it easy to calculate how many teaspoons are in a cup or how many tablespoons are in a cup.
If you are making a soup, stew, sauce or other liquid-based dish, knowing how many teaspoons are in a cup can help you determine how much to add and how much to subtract from the recipe. This is especially important when working with liquids such as milk, water or oil!
For dry ingredients, such as flour, the same rules apply. You can use a conversion chart to figure out how many teaspoons are in a cup of all-purpose flour, almond flour or other common dry ingredients.
This conversion table can also be used to help you measure out small amounts of liquids such as water, milk or oil. By using a conversion table, you can make sure that the measurements in your recipes are accurate and will ensure that you get the perfect results!
The teaspoon to cup conversion is a simple mathematical division that can be applied to any type of liquid or dry ingredient. For example, if you are trying to make a recipe with salt and sugar, you can easily calculate how many teaspoons are in a quarter cup (or half cup) of these ingredients by simply dividing the volume in cups by 48.
How Many Teaspoons Are in a Cup
Recipes
When it comes to recipes, understanding how many teaspoons are in a cup is crucial. It helps you ensure that you use the right amount of ingredients for every recipe and avoid making mistakes that could ruin your cooking efforts!
A teaspoon is a small measuring tool that can be used for both dry and liquid ingredients. It can be used to measure out precise amounts of dry ingredients, such as flour and sugar, in order to bake and cook.
It can also be used to measure out liquid ingredients, such as milk and oil, in order to make soups or other savory dishes. It has been used since the 17th century and has been widely adopted across the world, especially in the United States.
The teaspoon is a great tool to have in the kitchen because it allows you to measure out precise amounts of ingredients quickly and accurately. However, there are a few different ways to measure teaspoons.
There are level teaspoons, rounded teaspoons, and heaping teaspoons. Each of these teaspoon measurements has its own pros and cons. For example, a level teaspoon is a good measurement for dry ingredients because it has been leveled off.
On the other hand, a rounded teaspoon is more imprecise and may not be as accurate. This is because a rounded teaspoon has extra dry ingredients packed onto it, which can lead to an inaccurate measurement.
Heaping is another method of measuring teaspoons that is often used in baking. This method is less precise than a level or rounded teaspoon, but it's a good way to get an accurate measurement of dry ingredients, such as flour and sugar.
The amount of teaspoons in a cup depends on how much the recipe calls for. For example, a recipe that calls for one half cup of an ingredient will require 16 teaspoons in the US or 12 teaspoons in the UK. If the recipe calls for a full cup of an ingredient, it will require 48 teaspoons in the US or 56.5 teaspoons in the UK.

Monday, 01/02/2023 @11:04 pm - 11:20 pm Last night's dreams: Rachel Deng had a pet baby seal that looked exactly like Poly so I thought it was a polar bear. I made a new friend who was Polynesian or Hawaiian. I've been daydreaming of going to Hawaii lately so that must be why. Mr. D was bald. I was monitoring a bunch of kids. I'm not sure where. I found a stray white cat (it was so pretty) and some cartoonishly flat rabbits. I collected them for an experiment that never happened.
Where I went today: Home.
What I ate today: For brunch (which I ate at nearly 4 pm), I had shrimp and rice, yogurt, coffee with almond milk, and a whole wheat bagel with cream cheese and strawberry jam. Only one side of the bagel had strawberry jam, which I'm glad I did because cream cheese and strawberry jam together are two flavours that taste quite different and meld together a bit strangely. Dad made me tea (orange pekoe with milk and no sugar) and I had a piece of bread with strawberry jam. And more yogurt.
What I did today: Not much. Stayed on my computer.
Media I consumed today: Billie and Jean Ep. 7 Space 1.8 - Nana Sinephro
Things I worked on today: Resume Website New photography instagram
Things I’m grateful for today: Mom - she bought me a cake for my birthday tomorrow! Dad - he made me tea and gave me a hug despite me being a bit of a mean girl lately.
Closing Thoughts: I don't know how much patience my parents have left for Jie Jie. This evening Popo called mom and mom was ranting about Jie. Said she was barely here the entire holiday and had been spending it at a boy's house that she only refers to as a "friend". And that she only eats takeout and oatmeal... Mom also told Popo that I sleep a lot. I actually sleep a very normal amount, I just sleep at 5 am and wake up at 2 pm. Dad asked me where the plunger in our bathroom was and I told him that Jie Jie said she was borrowing it. He said, "of all things to borrow why would she take the plunger?" and I told him I didn't know. Dad asked where she took it and I told him to the friend's place, to which he said, "She's an idiot." I agree. Because when she mentioned to me that she was borrowing it I asked her why her friends couldn't just buy their own plunger. And she said there wasn't a Dollarama or Walmart or something nearby. I told her there was an Ikea... to which she said, "Oh yeah, one opened up downtown." She then proceeded to bag up the plunger. She's so strange. Always borrows the most random items from home. Before, it was a scale because her then-boyfriend needed one to weigh his luggage (again, I don't know why he couldn't just buy one himself). And another time, she took over-the-counter medicine from our kitchen cabinet because her then-boyfriend was sick. I don't know why she constantly takes things like they're hers. The plunger is still at her "friend's" place and she is in Florida now.
