Evocations: XIV (b)

Alexandra knew that she was being overly stubborn, even for herself, who normally operated at extremely stubborn as a default. She wasn't completely sure why, either. Why now? Why this case? Perhaps she was just determined to maintain a degree of normalcy as the days wound down towards the evening she had planned to propose.

Or, perhaps she simply couldn't handle it when evil men operated with impunity.

Either way, when Zapata and his attorney turned down the deal she'd been told to offer, Alex had refused another opportunity to drop the case. That night at home, she ducked out up to the roof to smoke, and to figure out her next move.

She was asking Olivia to marry her in two days. Counting the stars between drags, Alex wished fervently for luck to be on her side for just a little longer.

By the time she headed back downstairs, her high was pleasantly heavy, and calm. Liv had bought herself a new dress for the upcoming dinner, and Alex found her in the bathroom wearing it, trying out makeup and hairstyles to go with it. Alex leaned in the doorway, staring, smiling softly at the elegant brunette, who had styled her hair back away from her forehead. She was applying lipstick in the mirror, and there were silver and pearl drop earrings sparkling at her ears.

"What're you staring at?" Liv teased, blotting the lipstick and turning to face Alex.

The rest of my life, Alexandra thought to herself. She shrugged, stood up straighter. "The new dress is lovely." Then she chuckled at the indignant look that crossed Olivia's face. "Buut . . . " Alex drawled, stepping toward her, "it's nothing compared to the stunning brunette inside it."

Liv grinned, pointed to her face. "What do you think?"

"I think you're incredible." Alex pulled Liv by the waist against her and placed a kiss to her throat. "Can I take this dress off you, now?"

"Mmm," Liv hummed, flushing with goosebumps, "I think I could be persuaded," she giggled.

Tim Donovan was dead.

Alexandra was still shaking when she and Olivia locked their apartment door behind them, leaving their protective detail outside in the hall.

"I'm going to call and check on your mother," Liv told her.

Nodding faintly, Alex walked away down the hall toward their bedroom. Flicking on the light, she walked straight to the closet and leaned into its depths, reaching for the spot where she had hid the engagement ring. From the moment she had said, "No, I want to go home now," she had wanted to get the ring in her hand.

Her fingers closed over the ring box, small, solid, a tangible piece of her life as yet untouched by the Zapata case's violence.

Alex pocketed the ring box in her jacket, then wandered back out into the apartment, finally sitting on the sofa, where she let Sky High crawl into her lap. Olivia was checking the window locks one by one as she spoke with Darcie, and snippets of sentences would drift by where Alex sat:

"She's with me, now . . . yes, an armed guard. Twenty-four seven, yeah . . . "

Alex stroked Sky's fur, her ears still ringing from the bomb blast, the places where bruises would come in already aching warmly.

"Yes, I promise you she's fine. I'll have her call you in the morning. Ok. Love you, too, Darcie. Goodnight."

Olivia sat alongside Alex, and Sky excitedly jumped at her, trying to kiss her face. Liv stroked a hand over Alex's hair. "How are you doing?"

Alex just shook her head and looked at her hands, her eyes full with unshed tears.

"Let me run you a bath," Liv suggested softly.

"He had two kids, Olivia."

"This is not your fault, Alex."

"Bullshit it's not!" she choked out, "I could have dropped it half a dozen times in the last week!" Olivia took a breath to try again, but Alexandra was fully sobbing, so instead she folded her into her arms and let her cry, while Sky High sat with them, trying to help.

Bit by bit, Liv managed to get her to let her push her jacket from her shoulders, getting her up from the sofa and leading her in the direction of the bathroom.

She took a warm cloth to the grime and small cuts on her face and arms, before helping her strip off her clothes. In the bedroom, she kept one eye on Alex as they both put on pyjamas and then got into bed. Sky quietly curled up between their feet below.

"You're safe here," Liv told her softly, taking Alexandra's hand beneath the blankets.

But Alex was still thinking about how stubborn she had been every step of the way. About Donovan's sincere eyes as he told her he didn't want her to worry. Then Agent Hammond screaming at her, telling her she had been careless.

"Liv?" she whispered.

"Yes?"

"Can you hold me, please?"

Liv curled into the faintly trembling blonde, settling her weight onto her, giving her something to ground herself with. Alexandra's blue eyes stared into the darkness, wondering just how far they would fall before everything was all over.

In the living room, tossed over the back of the couch was her jacket, where deep in the pocket the pear-cut diamond ring waited to reflect the light.

"Alex, we can't always win," Elliot said gently.

"But that's just it. Even when we win, we don't."

To Olivia, it felt like they were having the Gardner case discussion, all over again. Except this time, the futility and the helplessness had magnified outward to the entire squad.

While Elliot went to settle the tab, Liv made another attempt to convince Alexandra to stay at 'her' place. In their two years together, Olivia had continued to insist on keeping her old apartment, and now she seemed to think it would be safer than the one they shared. Alex flatly refused, not willing to let the cartel take more from her than they already had.

In the pocket of the jacket she slung over her shoulder, the ring box was tucked away, burning a hole. They would have been at dinner right now, if the Special Victims Unit wasn't worried for her life. She could have been on one knee as they spoke, instead of heading out the door of the cop bar into the cool Fall night.

Soon, she told herself. She faced Olivia on the sidewalk, thinking of the dress that Liv would wear for the dinner, how she had stripped it from her and made breathless love.

Then there was the sound of bullets.

Then darkness.

Liv scrambled to Alexandra's still body. "Alex?No. No, no, no, no, no, no. No, no, no," she chanted the syllable again and again to ward off the nauseating panic. "Somebody call an ambulance! Call 911 now!" she screamed. She pushed down desperately on the bleeding wound, continuing to talk to her as though her voice could stop the bleeding.

"Alex? It's okay, Alex. Alex, look at me. It's okay, sweetie. Stay with me. Stay with me. Stay with me, Alex . . . " she begged, "They're coming right now. You're gonna be okay. Alex, you're gonna be okay. Look at me! You're gonna be just fine, you're gonna be just fine. Now, just stay with me." Olivia's breath was heaving into and from her lungs in hot, disbelieving pants as she continued to repeat herself, saying her name like it was the key to a prayer: "Alex, Alex, Alex, Alex. It's okay. Look at me!"

The night had become a kaleidoscope of colors: the ink black sky, the flash of red and blue lights, the white-hot panic in the center of Olivia's chest.

The crimson spill of Alex's hot blood between Liv's fingers and over her hands.

When Elliot finally pulled his partner up and away from Cabot's body to let the EMTs work on her, the world spun out from under her. She stumbled in his hold, and he quickly tightened his arms, holding her up.

They followed the ambulance to the hospital, where Alexandra was whisked off to a trauma room to where neither Elliot nor Olivia could follow. The two women were not legally bound in any decision-making sense, and it slammed a heavy door in the brunette's face.

Elliot called Kathy to tell her where he was, then stayed with Liv, sitting quietly on the hard plastic waiting room seats. His hope was that she would nod off and rest before there was any news, but Olivia was like a raging bull, alert and breathing rapidly as she paced the length of the seating over and over. Sometimes she gnawed at her fingers, other times she stopped as if she would be able to hear in the direction Alex had been taken if she strained hard enough.

After more than two hours had crawled past, a doctor came padding toward them silently. The question she asked when she stopped in front of the detectives was, "Does Ms. Cabot have any family?"

"Yes. Her parents," Liv answered immediately.

"We'll need their contact information," the doctor replied.

"She's our ADA, doctor," Elliot said, flashing his badge from his hip. "Can you tell us anything about her condition?"

The doctor's mouth pressed into a grim line, then said, "I'm sorry, but Ms. Cabot didn't survive her injuries."

The kaleidoscope turned, turned, turned again and Olivia dropped heavily onto the nearest seat. Blinking rapidly she fought off the feeling that she was going to faint, trying to focus on the sensation of her breathing.

She couldn't seem to feel her heart beating at all.

I am also no longer into the fandom side of hockey anymore and hardly ever read fan fic anymore. (A senior thesis will do that to a person 😔) Buut I want you to know that I think about contact high on a regular basis. Once a week maybe type of regular, when I’m wishing I was reading something fun and not a science journal. Is that weird?! I mean I know that sounds a little crazy- but it might be the greatest fic I’ve ever read. While I was reading it I got the sense that it would be one of my favorites, but I had no idea how much it would still ruminate with me a year and a half later. I don’t think I can recall a single other rpf work like I can that one. You are such an amazing writer! And I hope you continue to write- whatever it may be that your writing about! 💕

(Sorry to keep putting these on y’all’s dash, but it’s the only way I can THANK these anons and they definitely need thanking.)

Your timing OP ;.; I really got this ask when I needed it most. 💕 Thank you thank you thank you! Sorry for the delayed response—it’s so hard to figure out how to thank somebody and explain how much words like this mean while not sounding like a flu patient or something.

To answer your question, it’s not weird! There are absolutely fics that live rent-free in my head to the degree that I’m basically sponsoring them on a permanent residency program [cut to footage of bring it if you really want it by staraflur]. And god, what an honor that Contact High is like that for you 🙏 Contact High is my favorite thing that I’ve written. A lot (pfff, all) of the content was so self-indulgent for me, just utter wish-fulfillment, which I usually try to dial back, but I wanted to see what might happen if I really leaned in instead. (The thing with toothpaste/walking in on someone actually happened to me when I was staying over at a friend’s house in high school... Sorry again to her brother, I promise I barely saw anything.) There isn’t a single element of that fic that I wasn’t excited about while I was writing it. And it’s that much more touching when the work that feels the most ‘me’ is someone’s favorite.

Anon, I hope you get some free time to read fun stuff soon! You deserve it. And good luck on your thesis! Defend that sumbitch like you’re Connor Murphy (no idea if it’s the kind of thesis you defend, but you get my meaning). Thank you again 💕

I am still writing, by the way! Just as slow as ever though, and for a very mixed bag of subjects! No hockey lately, though I have a few unpublished 1988 WIPs that I haven’t touched in a long stretch yet haven’t let go of either. Every fall, I pump myself up to roll up my sleeves and edit/finish this genre-confused frankenstein of a haunted house-type fic, and I haven’t given up hope yet! (Plus if I finish it, I can finally read jezziejay’s witch Jonny fic—which got posted while I was writing mine, and I made myself bookmark it for later so I wouldn’t be influenced or in my head about any overlap even though they’re almost certainly totally different in every way. I’m dying to read hers ;.;)

Hmm I hesitate to say this, but... If anyone is really interested regardless of fandom, there’s also an unorthodox fic I wrote as a Christmas present for my sister back in 2017 that she keeps telling me to post. (I know, and it gets weirder from there.) I think I want to but I’ve hesitated for several reasons. First: I need to re-do the ending now that I’m not scrambling to finish it on Christmas Eve. Second: It is a pairing that does not exist and kind of bananas. More info under the cut if you’re interested.

Basically, years ago, one of my sisters and I had a looong conversation about who was worthy of being shipped with Stacker Pentecost from Pacific Rim, and when none of the characters from the movie satisfied us, we reached out into the vast universe of basically anyone from any media to find him love, guess-and-check style. After literal hours, I brought up one of my favorite under-appreciated characters, Linus Caldwell from Ocean’s Eleven (Matt Damon). Which makes no sense, but doesn’t it a little? It became a running joke, and then a running a joke that I was gonna write it, and then not a joke. Ain’t that the way?

So yeah—Third: I’m hesitant to get somebody excited about a new hockey fic only to open the email and see it’s a batshit crossover that literally no one (except my sisters) is asking for. That being said, I started it as a joke/challenge, but ended up making something that I find quite a fun little ride because I was so loose with it (because, like, who’s ever gonna see this, right? Some real dance like nobody’s watching shit). I’ve written a bunch of stuff never meant to see daylight, but this fic in particular feels complete. It just has a lot going on (Hidden identities! Never Been Kissed-style fake student/professor tension! Chase scenes! Cameos! Close-up magic! Heist crew banter! Idris Elba’s North London accent! My total lack of military knowledge!). Also it’s over 30k words. (Yeah.)

Is there any interest in me posting this?? To be clear, I’m definitely not expecting it to be popular or anything, but taking the time to fix it up only makes sense if I know at least two people will lay eyes one it, lol. You don’t have to know both films really well for it to make sense, but familiarity with the Ocean’s trilogy and characters probably helps a lot for context since it takes place in between those movies. Goes without saying that no offense will be taken if there isn’t clamoring demand amongst hockey rpfers for 30k of Pacific Rim crossed over with a George Clooney movie franchise in a fic that has neither giant robots nor giant monsters (nor George Clooney, in any appreciable quantity)... Think I’m capable of taking that sentiment on the chin. 🤙

Chapter XII: Hidden in Plain Sight

Masamune x MC (Mizusaki Mai) Fantasy AU Action Summary: He wanted Mai to remain herself - and for that very reason, he promised to protect her, at any cost. No matter how far he’d have to travel to find her. Previous chapters: Masterlist

I’m not sure whether I’m a little late with this chapter, buut... Well, it is there. I already have a vague plan for the next part and it’ll be - very - interesting ^^

“You know, when you entered the university, you kinda reminded me of my mother…” she said suddenly. “For a second. She was a great connector, probably the most skilled one I’ve ever met. She loved it so much she could spend hours talking about portal membranes and how to alternate their density – and if somebody prompted her, she’d absolutely start over from the very beginning.”

Stars shone over the world – and it was white, covered completely in snow powder. How many years had passed? He couldn’t tell. All he knew was that then, surrounded by nothingness, he was whole, that he couldn’t hurt anybody.

He welcomed the isolation, even if he couldn’t remember warmth anymore.

A patrol walked down the street outside of the university, light produced by torches they carried sneaking briefly into the residential quarters. Masamune lifted up his head, blinking away some of the confusion. He existed, this very statement being at the same time more and less than he ever hoped for. He got up from his spot over the bed and arched his back like a cat, darkness once more enveloping the room.

Who was he, again? He took a step forward and marched onto the pillow standing in his way, a familiar scent hitting his nose. The smell brought back blurry images from the past – memories of fields and rivers, flowers, dinners, touches he wished never had to cease, and of a certain smile, vastly imperfect yet also oddly soothing, heart-warming. He shook his head, something burning him under his eyelids. What exactly had he forgotten? He focused, struggling through ever thickening fog inside of his mind.

What happened in the past few days? Weeks? He... He was locked in this room. Why? Why couldn't he leave? Was he kept there by somebody? No, that didn't feel right. He... He was there of his own volition. He was waiting by himself for somebody to come – and this pillow belonged to them... To her. They were on a ship and then, travelled to this place, wherever it was, and she would disappear for entire days, and would return smelling of ink and paper. It was hard remembering who he was without her around... On that note, what was his name? Ma... Ma... Masamune. He could still recall it.

The door to the room opened, snapping him out of his thoughts. Frozen in place, he stared at the woman who stood in the doorway. “Eevi, I think I...” Mila stopped in surprise, her gaze falling onto him. She put the papers she held on the table and sat on the edge of the bed. “I haven't seen one of you in centuries,” she uttered.

To read minds was a gift one could receive in many forms, be it magic, being a patient listener or having a keen eye for details. In Mitsuhide's case, it appeared he was granted a special privilege by gods, for he embodied all three of the traits. Seated comfortably in the armchair in the corner of the library, he feigned being absorbed by the novel in his hands, in fact carefully observing his companions, all huddled around the wide table standing before long rows of shelves. Mitsuhide pinched the bridge of his nose and let his head fall forwards, his chin resting against his chest, as if the dim light strained his vision. Rubbing on one of his eyes, he stole a glance at the group, streaks of smoke flooding the room with deep indigo.

Worry. He could understand the emotion, the current situation serving as a nourishment to doubt and fear alike. He turned his gaze towards Mai, her face betraying her completely – determination, one he only ever saw accompanied by denial. How would they tell her that the lizard, the one she claimed to be Masamune, showed no more signs of having human mind than any other animal? Could they even do that just yet? Sighing to himself, Mitsuhide lifted his eyes once more – no, they could not. Time for mourning would come later, for first he had to keep her safe. Masamune would not want for his sacrifice to go to waste. He looked at Alleyah, shimmer disappearing from his eyes right as she shook her head, the woman glancing at him the very next moment.

Guarded. Wasn't that playing along with his assumptions? Mitsuhide stopped a frown from coming onto his face, the realisation knocking on the border of his mind yet once again: Mai could not stay there much longer, chances of her identity being discovered rising with each day. To be hidden in plain sight could prove to be effective, had she known of being tracked in the first place. However, to his best knowledge, Mai was not aware of the fact, her mind seemingly being stuck back in the events of few weeks prior, only the smell of paper and endless hours of comparing data soothing her soul.

Mitsuhide closed the book in his hands. He rose from the armchair, his shoes clacking against the marble floor as he strode towards the group. As if he were carefree, he gazed into seemingly never-ending aisles, every now and again taking a detour to reach for a volume which caught his attention. Step by step, he came closer to the line of tables, stumbling into it almost by accident. He leaned against the wooden counter, the group still working undisturbed. “Has any progress been made?” Mitsuhide asked, a smile spreading across his face. “No. You could stop asking about that every day,” Mila replied and rubbed her temples. She turned her face towards the window situated on the far away wall and groaned, the sun already having set. Conflicted, she tried to return to her work, only for her eyes to refuse to co-operate, all words appearing to be smudged and fuzzy. She got up. “Mitsunari, go and fetch us some more candles, we all will go blind if we continue on like this,” she sighed. “I'm taking a break.” With that, she walked towards the furthest corner of the room, only the creaking of the iron door leading to a small balcony of sorts giving out her position. Mitsuhide watched as Mitsunari exited the room, dark circles under the man's eyes causing him to look almost thankful for the moment of peace. “With that development, I have some matters to discuss. Perhaps you should accompany Mila, little mouse?” Mitsuhide suggested, turning his attention towards Mai. However, she did not say a word nor moved. “Eevi?” Startled, Mai looked up from the volume in her hands. “Yes? I'm sorry, I wasn't listening for a moment.” “I wanted to discuss implementation of prevention measures with Ieyasu and Alleyah, as I shall present those to noble representatives soon. You could use some fresh air and Mila will surely appreciate the company over on the balcony.” Her lips pressed into a thin line, Mai finally nodded in agreement. “Yeah, this seems to be a good idea. Thanks.” “Always at your service, little mouse,” Mitsuhide sighed, corners of his lips subtly turning upwards – this time, honestly.

Cool air hit her face, the door slamming shut behind her. Mai shrieked, the slip of her hand causing more noise than she anticipated. Having collected herself, she strode towards the railing, dark streets stretching far below the balcony. Few buildings, illuminated by light of torches, stood proudly, alike to lighthouses on the border of an endless sea. “This building up to the east is Basilica of Stan'slav,” Mila hummed. “The one on the western side of the city is Daralis Cathedral. There are two more like those, one for each of the sacred fourth – well, sacred if you believe in such things,” she laughed a bitter laugh. “Vyrminia is an unusual city, diverse and connected. I love it here – some say Varshka used to be the same, but I can't quite see it anymore.” “Have you lived here for long?” Mai asked, taking the place next to Mila. “No, no, only a couple years. I've been moving around a lot, my line of work doesn't exactly allow me to stay anywhere for too long. There aren’t many of us, after all. I lived in Ustia, Novermak, and even small towns like Zgrzelirz to name a few.” “Zgshelish? I think I've heard the name, but I can't recall it.” “Yeah, it no longer exists,” Mila sighed, her back slouching. “It's been over a decade since it happened. You know, it started small, just some people saying they're entitled to their views, that the plague of Yss was a punishment. I always said that hatred is not an opinion, but of course, nobody listened. Year by year, they spread more and more misinformation, and finally... People were hurt. People had to hide who they were. Most just preached that 'the society isn't ready for any changes now' and that 'they asked for it, they are choosing not to be normal', even though they knew it was all lies... And then, one day, it was them who got the short end of the stick. So, the king was overthrown, but revolutions are never not scary. Community in Zgrzelirz split in two, one didn't want to fight, but was forced to – and an army was passing by to pacify protests... So it was wiped out, you know, because it was chaotic and some people got drunk on the smell of blood. It wasn't the only town like so. They say Varshka recovered, but you can still hear sentiment for those 'good 'ol times' there. I can't believe it used to be like Vyrminia.” Mai nodded in agreement, not sure as to what she could say. That she thought the town still existed, frozen in time in some ghost-like realm, where it's bound to repeat the history over and over again? That would sound crazy even to her, even if she had seen it with her own eyes. As if to break the silence between them, Mila asked: “What about you? I'm sure working for Tokugawa gave you some interesting stories, preferably some less sour ones.” “Not really,” Mai laughed awkwardly. “It's only been a couple years since I've started doing that. Before... Well, I lived with my fiance in the province of Yss. He and Ieyasu were friends since childhood, so when my fiance got ill... I couldn't do anything, but look for some solution to the problem.” “Weren't you afraid to leave him like that?” “No. He's impossibly strong, always charging into the unknown and proving that he can withstand more than anybody could expect. He learnt to swim in deep waters, his family... Well. He will not give up without a fight. And frankly, as long as he's waiting, I don't feel alone.” “I see,” Mila let out a puff of air, her gaze fixated on something far away, beyond the borders of physical and tangible. Minutes passed, wind sweeping along the streets below them. As if taken out of a trance, Mila turned around, pressing her back against the railing, her elbows resting atop it. She tilted her chin upwards, reflections of stars shining within her eyes. “You know, when you entered the university, you kinda reminded me of my mother…” she said suddenly. “For a second. She was a great connector, probably the most skilled one I’ve ever met. She loved it so much she could spend hours talking about portal membranes and how to alternate their density – and if somebody prompted her, she’d absolutely start over from the very beginning.” “Sounds nice to have a parent like that. Have you inherited it after her?” Mai inquired, shifting her weight as to let her body relax a little. “No. She wasn’t that kind of a mother.” “Oh. I'm so–” “It’s fine,” Mila cut her off. “You know, she always said that any magic can be used and practised for the better. She said it was another equaliser, next to weapons, and that there was beauty in it as well.” “I don’t know about that. Mine doesn’t seem all that beautiful,” Mai murmured, her muscles beginning to tense up. Perhaps if her control wasn’t lacking... But alas, even then, the best she could do was sending objects flying without damaging the room. “I suppose people can have different views. Mom said that to her, it was like weaving through fabric of time and space – and that she had to just find this one line and grasp it, just hard enough not to tug on it or break it… “ she trailed off, dull nostalgia sneaking into her eyes. However, she managed to shake herself out of it and continued the story: “When I was still little, she started losing her sight, but she still claimed that she could see the threads, that she was connected to us all through them. I was sad for her, but it’d always end up with her ‘I’m surrounded by colours from all sides now’ talk.”

No reply came, hair on Mai's neck beginning to stand up. She thought ordinary connectors did not see, did not experience, those things. Exactly how much did Mila know? Who even was she? As if to confuse her further, the woman pushed herself away from the railing and headed back inside. One hand on the doorknob, she stopped. “You may be diluted, but you can't run away from your heritage forevermore.”

Mila went back into the library.

i honestly have no idea, but he doesn’t have a ring on his finger lmao

i am single and not really planning on entering a relationship anytime soon

4. is your tc more of the athletic type, the nerdy type or the artsy type?

he’s more the nerdy type but in a really self-confident way?? like his humour is iconic

5. if you and your tc were in high school together, do you think you’d be friends?

yes, we have a lot of the same interests which is kinda rare + he’s rather outgoing and since I’m really good at finding my “type” of people, i think i would’ve stumbled over him sooner or later. also i became really good at making friends this year and finding people i like :)

6. name one song that reminds you of your tc and explain why that song reminds you of them.

To be quite honest, he had no damn idea how this whole idea got off the ground in the first place.

Maybe it’d been Hanamura suddenly stoppin by Tatsumi Textiles, one day, n’Kanji not answerin the door right away. His ma bein out, he didn’t hear it cause he was in the livin room, watching some television. It’d been a weekend, so the textile shop shoulda been closed. Guessed his ma left the door open, or somethin -- she was forgetful.

So, Hanamura’d walked in, n’seen Kanji watchin some Sailor Moon. Kanji had freaked out ( gently, mind ya, he wasn’t like, mad at Hanamura or nothin’ ),and begged Hanamura not to tell the others. Hanamura’d teased him, but promised, n’then one thing led to another. Somehow, Hanamura had agreed to watch a few episodes of Sailor Moon with Kanji.

Maybe he’d been curious what was so great bout an anime from the early 90s. Maybe it was just the “cute babes” in sailor outfits. Kanji didn’t care, cause it was actually pretty sweet t’be able to share that passion with somebody. N’, Hanamura had started to enjoy the series. He tried t’hide it, at first, buut Kanji could tell. He had that eye for things.

Anyway, it’d been a couple weeks since then, n’Kanji had suggested takin a trip out to Tokyo. Specifically, t’see some sights from the anime, n’also just to. Have some time, to relax.

They had a few days off, for break, n’it’d seemed like as good’a time as any. After all that craziness with the murders from a year back, peaceful stuff like just, takin a train out to Tokyo, was sorta bizarre. But, necessary, as Kanji figured.

Kanji had dressed up well. Bein a bit older, n’wiser, he was slowly becomin more conscious of what he threw on in the mornings. Sort of. He still wore a lot of black, but tried to add in some spice of pastel colours, just, so he wouldn’t overheat. It might still be early summer, but the days were gettin warmer’n warmer!!

Exhalin, he checked his reflection in a nearby shop window for probably the third time. Just t’make sure his hair was good, n’that his shirt collar weren’t popped out or nothin funny. He wanted to look nice.

Caaause, fashion was cool. N’he wanted Hanamura t’think he was rad! Yeah, no way would Kanji wanna just be seen as the underclassman, specially after all he and Hanamura had been through in the last year. Not to mention the last few weeks.

“...I think I might’ve been a bit early,” He mumbled to himself, casually checkin his cell phone. Had they said 14:30, or 15:00? It was, little close to 15:00, but, well. Tokyo Tower would be open til, like, waaay late into the night, anywhow. N’Kanji kinda wanted to see it a bit later in the evenin.

Hearin familiar footsteps, he glanced up, and smiled. Smiled, cause he saw Hanamura walkin closer,

“Yo! Hanamura, y’made it! Sorry, was I too early?” Still, Kanji gently pat Hanamura on the side of his right shoulder, not sure what else to do. A handshake felt too formal, but a hug was outta the question.

I was moving over into my left lane because I was soon about to turn onto the highway.the light was green and I must admit I did see the truck but it was further back so I decided to try and make the left the light was turning yellow and I wanted to beat the light but my main focus shifted to my left rearview mirror because I wanted to make sure there weren't any cars in my blind spot..next thing you know I looked up and the truck was swerving out of control obviously he was trying to beat the yellow light as well and since he is driving a truck it is way much harder to complete an abrupt stop without gliding practically 100 yards..he smashed right into me and dragged my car along with his truck until I was facing northbound with him..my car is completely ruined and totaled..I know for a fact that if I would've had a passenger with me they would've died on impact, I am so blessed because i wasn't injured that bad beside a little torn tissue in my knee,the pain from my seatbelt, minor scratches,bruised lips, and the small cuts from small glass and powder from the air bag, I did however immediately jumped out of the car cause I didn't want to get blown up or anything...anyways the police came..come to find out the truck driver didn't have proof of insurance with him..and we both got a ticket..mines was failure to yield and his was failure to slow down at yellow light so we both were at fault that was my first car and I only had it for a month and I have full coverage..now the big question is once I buy another car will my insurance company let me stay with them?..because I really like them and they are loyal to their words and customers..I also realize that I caused them to lose alot of money compared to how much I paid...""

He said for the past 6 months, each time he went in to make a payment, the girl HIS was already paid. Realizing what had happened. They were applying my payments to his automobile. I was furious. I notified the agent who initially did not want to accept blame, but since the payments were automatic and my account number was on each payment they took, they were responsible. The error was compounded by the fact that the cancellation notice went to HIS address (how dumb was that!) So I had no way of knowing that I was cancelled. I was without a car for 2 weeks and lost my job. After much haggling and many sleepless nights of wondering what to do without a job or a car, the insurance company finally admitted blame, paid the impound fees of $1,250.00. The agent also said they would handle the 2 tickets totaling 1K. FAST FORWARD TO 2010 in my state, the county did a scofflaw sweep and I was summoned to court with over 5 thousand other delinquent drivers to address unpaid tickets. The order was come to court by April 30th or be arrested. Realizing this had to be a mistake, but fearful of the law, I stood in line for over 5 hours in blazing heat, then sat in court another 5 hours waiting for my day in court. I was immediately threatened with arrest because the 2 tickets were not paid. Up to that moment, I had no idea the insurance company had not paid the 2 tickets. This time, not only was my insurance and registration cancelled, my license was suspended due to the age of the infraction (5 years). In front of the judge, I called the agents' office only to be told by the secretary that they had no intention to pay the ticket. Paying to get the car out of impound was enough. When the judge heard this she was shocked and let me off with a promise to pay in 5 days. She made me promise not to drive. With no way to get home but drive, I took a chance, and was pulled over. The officer informed me that due to the vast number of outstanding cases, tags bearing our county name would be targeted for a while (talk about a police state!). I showed him my documents from the court and headed home. This is a nightmare. Would I have a case if I filed suit against my insurance company for failing in their fiduciary responsibility to a 16 year client in good standing? By the way this company is one of the largest in the country.""
