I love this selfie! I’m wearing my new giraffe earrings I got at the Roger Williams Zoo. And a few favorite pictures from a wonderful weekend in Fairhaven and New Bedford, MA.

A couple of weeks ago, I was away for the weekend for a cousin’s wedding, which is why I didn’t upload anything at that time. We were in a city called New Bedford, which happens to have a small zoo called the Buttonwood Park Zoo, & they also just so happen to have some packys living there! We took my grandfather to it, & we had a good time. Here are some pictures I took while there. This packy is named Ruth, & I got really close to her! She was enjoying some hay & some nice sunshine. It was so nice to get to see some packys, especially during these crazy times!

Habitat- South America

Size (Weight/Length)- 453 g; 25 cm

Diet- Fruit; Nectar; Leaves; Insects

Cool Facts- With that ‘stache it’s clear why emperor tamarins are the king of their domain. These tiny monkeys live in small groups led by the oldest individual being either female or male. Extremely chatty, the emperor tamarin can project its voice 150 meters away, that’s pretty small for a 25 centimeter long monkey. While breeding is based on how much food is around, a single female generally has several litters a year. Almost always having twins, the baby tamarins cling to their mother’s back until they are completely weened. Other emperor tamarins in their group will help to carry the babies while the mother feeds and males, often not the father, will actively seek out the babies to carry around.

This is our adult, me Plymouth Redbelly Cooter enjoying some parsley. This turtle came to us from the Buttonwood Park Zoo. Our second-largest, native, freshwater turtle (second to the Snapping Turtle) is also the only herbivorous, freshwater turtle in New England.

This and other native animals live in the Bristol County Natural History Museum located on our campus. Our classrooms and labs are also located in the museum.
