Welcome to an evening at Henny’s DreamHaus! Themed after my latest feature in the “Good Form” music video, Suite 174 on Stuyvesant Street, Malibu, CA has been freshly remodeled from floor-to-ceiling in intimate peach and pink undertones. Our color palette was inspired by the 1920s flappers speakeasy clubs and in that same respect we’ve chosen to follow their traditions. 
In order to enter the club you must answer this riddle correctly: “I go in hard but come out soft, and I never mind if you want to blow me. What am I?”

Tonight’s Menu: We pride ourselves on being one of the first female black-owned restaurants to offer 24/7 breakfast dishes both in-person and via delivery. However, we also strongly believe that it’s never too late to have a drink so enjoy our signature-crafted house cocktails designed by platinum chef, Hennessy Dionne.

Breakfast Burger topped with peppered egg whites | peppered scrambled eggs | or classic sunny side up, flattened Louisiana hash browns dressed on cayenne peppers, extra thick bacon strips, on a medium rare or well done beef patty. You have the option of requesting a warmly toasted Sesame seed or Plain Roll bun. 
Pink Pancakes glazed with freshly-squeezed raspberry icing in between each stack and garnished by organic whip cream and garden-harvested raspberries.
Chicken and Waffles served buttermilk style with a side of crisp, flour-battered wings glazed in honey mustard sauce or signature hot wing sauce. 
Southern Fried Pork Chops and Eggs.
French Toast Breakfast.
Sauteed Jumbo Shrimp and Grits served in a cutout-pineapple bowl.
Alabama Style Cornbread Squares frosted with homemade Cream Cheese Icing.
Country Catfish with Yellow Rice.
Chicken and Waffle Cupcakes.
Baked Candied Yams.
All food and beverages served at this establishment are prepared on the spot and require a 10-15 minute wait time for full completion. Underlined menu items are limited house specials for the evening.

Café Nouveau seems to be the most popular weekend brunch spot in town judging from the crowd. We waited over an hour to be seated on a late Sunday morning. It took me awhile to realize that they had complimentary fruit infused water and coffee inside. Once you arrive, put your name on the list and listen for someone to yell out your own. Reservations are not accepted.
The California fusion menu is lengthy and I think on weekends breakfast is served all day. For breakfast they have pancakes, eggs, omelets, French toast, malted waffles, breakfast burritos, breakfast sandwiches, beignets (they’re known for their maple bacon beignets), frittata, etc.
* 2x2x2 ($10.99): 2 eggs your style, 2 bacon or 2 sausage, 2 buttermilk pancakes with homemade vanilla caramel syrup. I requested no butter on top. The waitress wrote it down but they still served the pancakes with butter on top. The poached eggs and sausages were fine. The pancakes were big, doughy and fluffy but they tasted more like vanilla than buttermilk. Also part of pancake tasted like something else they were cooking on the griddle (like someone else’s omelette).
* Mediterranean omelette: They used canned tomatoes and the omelette was missing a lot of the ingredients listed on the menu
* Irish steel cut oatmeal topped with blueberries ($5.99 + $1.75): The blueberries were the frozen kind that they defrosted
The check arrives with housemade mini cupcakes (1 bite sized). There are differernt cupcake flavors every day of the week.
* Cinnamon cupcakes with cream cheese frosting: The cake was moist and tender with lots of cinnamon. We didn’t eat the icing.
I think it’s a small place in a 1920’s bungalow style home and there are small rooms inside and a heated patio in the back. Many people brought their dogs, so it has to be dog friendly on the patio. We were in a small room with two other tables.
Everyone was disappointed with their food but apparently it was much better before.

One of our Christmas morning traditions is to prepare a big brunch. We open presents really late – tortuous for the kids, but it teaches they a little self-control. Another tradition is to have each of the kids choose a Bible verse and read it aloud to everyone. After we take some family pictures, everyone rips into their presents. We’ve been doing this since our kids were young, and even now that they’re much older, my boys and their cousins still squeeze onto the same sofa in our living room and read their Bible versus.
