Voyage of the Damned (1976)
"Will we ever come back?"
"It's only a temporary madness. Of course we come back."
#voyage of the damned#stuart rosenberg#david butler#steve shagan#faye dunaway#oskar werner#lee grant#sam wanamaker#lynne frederick#julie harris#wendy hiller#maria schell#max von sydow#malcolm mcdowell#georgina hale#orson welles#james mason#katharine ross#victor spinetti#a... conflicting film. the true story of the voyage of the St. Louis‚ carrying Jewish refugees from Germany on the eve of WW2‚ and the#efforts of her captain‚ and of various individuals aboard and elsewhere‚ to secure the safety of her passengers as country after country#refused them entry; that is a powerful story and deserved telling and telling well. and sometimes this nails it: more than once i was in#tears‚ there are individual scenes of great impact‚ and deeply moving performances and writing contained here. but just as often‚ the sheer#spectacle of the treatment risks obscuring the message; this was an 'all star' movie‚ heavily promoted as such‚ and at 2.5 hrs long it can#feel bloated and overblown. idk‚ less than the sum of its parts (some of which are profoundly affecting: Victor Spinetti silently weeping#as he waits to hear if his children will be allowed to join him in Cuba‚ every scene with Katherine Ross). the cast might be distractingly#starry (and also unfortunately mostly gentile‚ a disappointing misstep by producers) but some are doing incredible work here#of particular note is Werner‚ in his final ever screen role‚ and at this point more or less written off by the film world as a hopeless#alcoholic who couldn't be trusted to turn up‚ let alone act: he delivers one of his finest‚ most complex performances and in the process#recaptures some of the magical screen presence of his youth

I JUST WATCHED THE FIRST TWO MASTERS OF THE AIR EPISODES AFTER WAITING THREE YEARS. inner child? healed. warning: mota spoilers !!
just a little TOO obsessed with bucky + buck. “don’t count on it”???? DONT COUNT ON IT ! i had better see more of that. i physically need that little catchphrase played out on austin butlers tongue again. catch me quoting that on a gifset. it really is giving “going my way?”
BARRY KEOGHAN THE MAN THAT YOU ARE. his cheeky little smile. him blowing kisses to callum! sweet boy. *pointing to the sky* that’s where i’m going. WHEN HE CALLS THE TWO BUCKS AND BUCKY CALLS HIM THE LITTLE SPOON I GIGGLED! I LOVE THEMM
yeah also the fight scene in episode two um yeah. yeah. bucky teasing “pity pity pity!” he’s the funniest man alive and he knows it. also i find it so amusing that callum turner said for this role he drank a lot of whisky and ate burgers and really that is spot on.
crosby. what an icon. him saying something along the lines of if overthinking was a sport i’d win an award. ughhh also his and bubbles’ friendship! they are so so adorable. bubbles just being called bubbles. i want to tap him on the nose !
lemmons is such a little ball of sunshine. i really appreciate the love that the mechanics are getting because the book did mention them. he loves kids and he has such a bright smile
these are just my initial thoughts after witnessing it with my own two eyeballs. cannot recommend it enough and i will be rewatching until the next episode. i wish they showed more of their training like band of brothers. there is that clip of austin butler marching with some men, though, so i really really hope we get a backstory
ALSO I GENUINELY WENT THROUGH THE. BIGGEST LOUIS HOFFMAN PHASE RECENTLY AND UR TELLING ME HE IS IN THIS SHOW. IM SORRY?? YOURE JOKING. werner pfennig what are you doing here 💝

Be My Princess 2’s Childrens (PT. 2)
so, i will only translate a little bit of the second CG (image in the right) because if i translated everything, it would be a loooot... and i would stay here for days and days. but there's context, i will also talk about why the nickname, if it's too different from the name! here is part one of the princes.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Tumblr media Tumblr media
King Oliver & Prince Arthur (“Watson”).
why the nickname Watson? Prince Arthur said he couldn't tell about the future to Oliver, then got the nickname from Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes.
King Oliver, MC and Prince Arthur went out for a walk on Oliver’s birthday and, in the middle of streets, two chefs were fighting over a pizza, complaining about copying each other. Oliver then proposed they jointly promoted the pizza, so the public can say which pizza taste better. the two chefs liked the idea, Arthur was amazed. after coming home (and Werner yelled at Oliver), Arthur decided it was the best time to give his father the birthday gift, a book he made. Oliver started reading and praising the drawings too, making Arthur embarrassed. MC and Oliver were moved after reading that Arthur wanted to protect the country’s peace just like his dad and they hugged as a family. next few days, taking a break, Oliver said he likes to read Arthur’s book every day, the kid saying he'll make a lot of drawings. Oliver thanked MC for raising such a kind child.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
King Max & Prince Anselm (“Muu”).
why the nickname Muu? Prince Anselm was seen with a sheep plushie when he traveled to the past + the last katakana of his name, Muu.
Prince Anselm was anxious for his speech on King Max’s birthday party, so he froze in front of everyone. Max and MC were worried for their kid, she was going to help Muu-chan, but Max stopped MC, saying he believes Muu-chan will do it on his own time. little by little, Muu-chan steps to his dad, giving him a bouquet and an album, full of photos of them. MC is relieved, and then comments the album is incomplete, it's missing the last photo. Max is curious, and Anselm says it's reserved for a photo of the three of them. they ask Butler Gaston to take photo of them together, everyone applauding the family. Muu-chan and Max are relaxed and MC thinks it's a good time to take a picture of them again, asking for Gigi’s camera. later, MC talks about how Gigi is partner in crime of Anselm, taking the photos of them together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
King Lyuo & Prince Theodore (Teddy).
King Lyuo and Prince Theodore got sick after spending some time together, and MC was worried about Teddy not being fully healthy for Lyuo’s birthday party. Prince Aslan appeared, making Teddy happy, he really likes Aslan. MC let them talk and Aslan ask what Theodore is feeling, who admits he feels sad for being sick and not getting a gift for his dad. Aslan then, secretly gives an option to Teddy. after party, MC cooks for Lyuo, who was feeling sick and occupied and ended up not eating much. they celebrate as family. when getting ready for bed, MC notices Lyuo and Teddy sleeping and accidentally wakes them up. she feels happy to see them hugging, they weren't feeling very well before. Teddy admits he is feeling guilty, thinking he was the reason why Lyuo was feeling bad too and tries to make a spell for Lyuo to get better soon. Lyuo feels happy and hugs his kid really hard, feeling very hard to spend time with him again.
BONUS:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Butler Jin & Ren + Prince Shion & Ruito.
because it's the first time there's an event with Shion & Jin with their son, that's the event their son travels back in time.
Ren thinks Jin and MC doesn't get along, because MC always deny Jin’s touches in public. she is just a little shy with it plus thinks it's not an appropriate way to behave in front of their kid.
Ruito is worried that Prince Shion and MC are feeling overwhelmed with work, so he asks Butler Kent to help him make omelette, because he knows eating a delicious meal makes him feel better. MC and Shion are very happy to see their son being so caring, and there's the sense of they did something right in the future. after Shion’s birthday party, Ruito gives him a bouquet he made himself to Shion, congratulating his father for his birthday and Shion is feeling very proud of his son. after hugging Ruito, a light appears and take the kid back to the future. Shion comments Ruito is really MC’s son, for liking flowers and aromas.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
some of these images aren't mine, it's from some of my friends but they allowed me to post it, besides it's from voltage’s anyway.

21: her plane crashes in the Himalayas, where she turns out to be the only survivor; once at home she finds herself oppressed by the rules of nobility and refuses to marry her parents give her an ultimatum and eventually cut contacts with her, disinheriting her, and she goes to live to her aunt Margaret's summer manor with her butler Winston
21-24: Lara gets into several adventures, some which include finding the Philosopher Stone, the Arc of the Covenant, the Spear of Destiny, Bigfoot and dealing with the Aztec God Xolotl; she offers to buy her aunt's manor thanks to money regained by writing books in her adventures but her aunt refuses, confirming her place on top of her favorite family members

She also travels for the first time in a whole different world, at least as far as she knows, but she doesn't talk much about her journey through the Floating Islands
26: Lara finds some ancient alien crystals, the Infada Artifacts, and takes down fake gods, a scientist who liked "The Thing" a little too much, the entire US military in Area 51 and an immortal CEO (twice!); aunt Margaret dies
27: Lara joins the expedition in the Tomb of Tutankhamonand, later on, messes with Von Croy by infiltrating in his industries to steal the Iris, further souring their relationships; months later Lara accidentally starts the Apocalypse by releasing Set, who promptly mind controls Von Croy; she gains the favors of Horus and entraps Set once more, but she's buried under the Great Pyramid and taken for dead
28: Lara is saved by Putai, shaman of Horus, and joins the Bantiwa tribe; she considers herself born anew, takes the name of "El Hawa", "Desert Wind", and lives happily until Von Croy finds her once more; after discussing it with her newfound family, she returns to England with the promise of coming back one day, keeping their talisman as protection
29-32: Lara is ready to return to Egypt when she learns that an old enemy of the Bantiwa, 'Scar', took his revenge on her tribe and slaughtered them all, as far as she knows. after that, and growing more and more frustrated with the media and her parents, she self isolates in her manor and cuts contact with anyone in her life apart from Winston, letting the PTSD fester

honestly i know its mostly a shoutout to von croy leaving lara in the pyramid when he was Literally Mind Controlled than anything else but. i do think that her “egypt werner - you walked away and left me” thing was like because he kind of left her by herself after finding her?
like. he brought her back to civilization, maybe stood by her side for a week or two, and then. nothing like from the moment she was found to AoD there were 3 years of... god knows what. 3 years in which she didn’t indulge in tomb raiding nor any physical activity, 3 years in which she got much more reserved, introvert and aggressive. i. believe that eventually he did left her by herself. that she closed herself in her manor.
he was one of her very few friends - literally just her butler, her childhood priest and a character introduced specifically because they had to retcon another - talk fondly of her after her funeral. everyone else in her life is either an enemy, someone who died, someone who distanced themselves from her/she distanced herself from, or a mix of the three (imagining that aunt margaret is no longer with us, anyway). what tells her that von croy didn’t spend a year looking for her for good publicity? out of guilt? for his own ego? in a moment in which she’s so vulnerable, i think she could easily come up with that conclusion, and i. personally don’t think that’s it? granted their relationship after the TR4 prologue was strained at best and antagonistic at worse, but he is the one person who kept believing she was alive. he is the one person who spent an entire year looking for her. werner is the one who told her that he couldn’t leave her when an entire pyramid was collapsing, running away just because he would’ve ended up crushes as well - just like she did when she was younger. werner is the one who could’ve tried to fight back when karel went to kill him, but used his very last breath to save her life. despite everything that happened, despite all the time that they hurt eachother - that she hurt him - he did all he could to fix the mistakes he made and protect her, and lara understanding how much he cared for yer only days after his death is. SO important to me!!
i don’t know ik im rambling but. i just think werner is SUCH a neat character and AoD, at the end of the day, really was meant to be a story about lara relearning to trust people okay!!!!
