Hey, I sent your first Ro ask and just played your demo for the fourth time now, And yeah your writing doesn't seem amateurish, so I'm wondering if you've written other works before?. Really curious why L is gender locked to Mc's gender but as you said plot reasons so i won't ask but, could you describe each Ro route in three words?. I used to make fanfics a lot, then tried to write some stuff in wattpad. The latter is the last thing I ever shared publicly, and that was 4 years ago (pls don’t look them up they’re really cringe) 😂 I only write for myself ever since and 70% of them is just angsty romance hahaha

The reason is pretty simple tbh, ok I’ll just say it, the dorm buildings are separated by gender, and they’re supposed to be roommates ! But I’m having second thoughts now. Would ya’ll like L to be gender selectable like the rest of the ROs? I still haven’t gotten to that part yet so I’m still open to change,,, should I make a poll? 1. What genre of visual novel do you usually play?

Romance/Otome games are the ones I play most often, I find.

2. What was your first (or one of your first) visual novel(s)?

I don't think it was the first, but it was definitely one of the first: Hierofanía @sillyraccoonknight .  I loved this game SO MUCH when I was a young teenager; I even took the time to chart out every single possible branching path on a piece of paper, marking all of the different routes and endings.  I played the game repeatedly in order to complete this; I didn't use a walkthrough or anything, as I recall.

3. What was the last visual novel you played?

AFTERLIFE by Chris Logsdon.  Go play it, it's very short and very good.

4. Has a visual novel had a lasting impact on you?

The first VN in the Code:Realize series got me into otome games, which was impactful for me.  Heirofania was VERY impactful to me, as it was one of the games that made me want to make visual novels, and led me on my game development path.

5. Gush about your favorite visual novel! NOW!!

Blooming Panic is so good omggggg.  It's rare for me to like all of the love interests, but that's definitely the case here.  I haven't played the Full Bloom Edition yet so idk about xyx, but I'm sure he's wonderful. <3

6. If you could give a visual novel character a kiss/hug, who would it be and why?

I'd give Takeru Sasazuka from Collar X Malice a big big hug, that's my husbando and I love him.

7. How would your favorite character react if they suddenly turned into a worm?

If Takeru turned into a worm he would be PISSED.  He prides himself on his hacking abilities, and how can you type on a keyboard to hack if you're a worm?!  On the bright side, he loves sweets, especially donuts, and you can get a lot more out of a donut when you're teeny-tiny.

8. Is there a character that you reaaaallly relate to?

I really like Grayson from Lost And Found--he has special interests, he's trying to be successful in a creative field, he has homophobic parents who he wants to like him despite them not liking his identity. . . He's just like me for real lmao.

9. A character that you dislike?

No one came to mind!  Maybe the villain of Collar X Malice?  Talking about that would be spoilery though, so I won't.

10. Do you have a VN you’ve been meaning to play, but just haven’t?

So many lmao.  I literally have a whole collection on itch.io that's mostly VNs I either haven't played yet, or have only played the demos/old builds of, not the final versions.

11. Have you made any fan content for a VN?

Yeah, I helped make a Blooming Panic fangame, Coffee With Quest!  I also have written multiple fanfics for many visual novels.

Yee FNAF! I might not talk about it here much, but it is the fixation that Always Comes Back for me, so I’m glad to have an excuse to ramble about it :D

Favorite game is a bit complicated because I haven’t played all of them (my computer couldn’t handle the FLAF demo it is not running Security Breach), but depending on the day, it’s one of FNAF 1, Sister Location or Help Wanted.

FNAF 1 gets a ton of nostalgia points, the atmosphere is immaculate, and the little story it has is fantastic, though without as much complexity as later entries.

Sister Location is horrible on the replayability department… except I count the Custom Night DLC as part of the game, and that’s pretty fun. The game itself is fine on a first play through, has pretty good atmosphere, and (in my opinion) beats FNAF 1 in terms of self-contained story, themes and narrative weight, wider lore and character building. Night 5 is (in my opinion) one of the best written segments of any FNAF game, both Real and Fake ending.

Help Wanted also beats FNAF 1 in terms of self-contained story (those tapes are genuinely an awesome evolution of the Phone Guy concept), and the introduction of Vanny is genuinely captivating (regardless of how much they fumbled her in later entries), but it also added certain elements to the overall plot that I don’t quite like the ramifications of (even if I tend to ignore the “in-universe games” debacle, I dislike what it represents for theorizing). In gameplay it’s generally better than SL, but it’s not as charming as FNAF 1. Though I feel my opinion of it would change if I could actually play it in VR, but alas, that is not my situation.

It’s hard for me to pick between those, frankly. Probably Sister Location though, I just like the characters too much…

What shit I forgot Into the Pit. Yeah no it’s Into the Pit probably. Even accounting for recency bias the game’s insanely peak lol. Still gonna leave those other three there, for posterity xD

Speaking of liking SL characters; Baby and Puppet are my favorite animatronics, though admittedly that’s more of an extension of my favorite characters being Charlie and Elizabeth (that order). Btw, FNAF 1 Foxy is a very good and solid pick, I respect it :D

I genuinely think Baby in Sister Location has an argument for best written character of the entire franchise bar maybe Movie Mike, and I am willing to defend that take. A ruthless killer born of horrible circumstances, yet compassionate at heart (see: the very fact she chose to form Ennard instead of leaving with Michael’s body on her own, “the scooper only hurts for a moment” line), in her eyes betrayed by those she saved because of being… well, a child.

Shame her character got absolutely assassinated in FFPS. Unless she was trying to manipulate William. I know it’s not ever even remotely suggested, but I genuinely would have no (serious) complaints about Baby’s character if that’s what she was going for in the “I will make you proud” speech.

As for Puppet, old fan favorite for a reason. It was always a standout of the cast, which obviously meant I loved them, and the exploration of its personality in UCN in particular is pretty cool. To be clear, my enjoyment of Charlie as a character is based on highly specific interpretations of certain lines, but when literally 90% of the story is up to interpretation, I feel that’s not too surprising.

In particular, taking Charlie as a deeply regretful person, who realized how badly she fucked up by reviving the children only after dozens of night guards had been killed and they’d already been trapped for years, with possibly hundreds of deaths on her hands, just trying to make things right again. And, just, so, fucking, tired, by the time Lefty happens (see: Lefty UCN lines). And don’t even get me started on the angst potential of being tortured by her supposedly loving father in the Bear Torture Contraption, the mistakes of her past haunting her because Henry sees her as the bloodthirsty night guard killer that no longer exists (see: she doesn’t attack Michael in FNAF 3), and hearing that he wants to “save her now” as she burns half-alive. Etcetera.

Again, hyperspecific. But I like it, so.

For the sake of completionism:

My favorite Silver Eyes character is probably Elizabeth/Adult Charlie/Baby (why is this character so hard to refer to).

Favorite Frights character is probably Eleanor. She’s just so sassy and girlfailure and somewhat intriguing she’s fantastic (or, at least, better than other Frights characters in my books).

Favorite Steel Wool Era character is Gregory if he dropped the elevator and probably Vanessa if he didn’t (I wonder what that says about me lol).

Favorite Mega Cat games character is Oswald (not that many to pick from tbf).

Favorite movie character is Mike. Just a really amazing spin on the already solid basis of Michael Afton.

Favorite Interactive Novels character is Ralph (is it cheating if I mainly like him cuz he’s Phone Guy?).

And… do I really not like any character from Tales? I don’t remember almost any of the stories very well, but I guess if I’d liked the characters enough, I’d remember them.

Since I don’t care about Edwin for now, I guess the Mimic is the only real option, but I’m not the biggest fan. I have hope Secret of the Mimic will sway me to actually caring about the guy, though! I’m already enjoying what we have of Jackie, because in case it wasn’t obvious by the fact I picked Eleanor over Jake or Larson, I kinda enjoy the fucked up clown women quite a bit! Mimic will never be Ennard, but he can get close, and there’s worse things to be than worse-Ennard.

Okay so I spent another two hours on sf6’s demo and honestly yeah with the grabs you just have to get good. Keep your distance, if you’re close assume you’re going to be grabbed. They can still sometimes feel a little unfair, and going through drive impacts sucks (though I’m used to it with smash, grabs go through all super armour), but it’s fine.

Also I switched to classic controls, and it still has some of the problems I had with skull girls, but I cannot tell you how much the PlayStation controller is a GAMECHANGER

I played skullgirls on my pc, so I used the GameCube controller, which smash bros is practically perfect for, oh my god the gamecube controller is perfect for platform fighters I cannot gush enough about how much I love it, but it doesn’t work for 2D fighters AT ALL, at least not for me. But the PlayStation controller layout really does help! I used joystick for inputs, because while it’s less precise (I jump while trying to input supers ALL THE TIME IT IS SO ANNOYING), it is much easier to do quarter circle inputs. If the PlayStation controller was notched, then it would be perfect. I really want to try getting a fight stick style thing because that might make it sooo much better to control, but since it’s just a casual game for me I’m not going to invest any more money into it. I haven’t even bought the full game yet.

Basically, the game controls really well, I really like it. Grabs aren’t as annoying as I thought. I also know how to input overdrives!

Thess vs Intended Audience

You know that thing where TEH GAMERZ say shit like “Well, this game isn’t for you”? I think we need to start normalising saying that right back at them when a game comes out that they don’t like.

I have a habit of reading the negative reviews of things I enjoy, as I think I’ve mentioned before. It’s good to see the other side of it. Even if it does end up aggravating as fuck most of the time. For instance, DREDGE, the newest addition to my Steam Favourites list. I preordered this on the strength of the demo. It cost me a little over £20. I do not in the least tiny bit regret it. It’s basically tailor-made for me; I can have tension and AAAAA when I want it and the rest of the time I can just putz around building up my income until I feel up for taking on the next necessary bit of AAAAA. Then again, there’s always a certain amount of AAAAA when you’re on a timer because night falling means weird-to-bad depending on how you respond to it. At best you’re kind of freaking out; at worst ... well, I haven’t come across “at worst” yet but someone on the Steam reviews did and while I laughed, it’s a nice thing to know that I’ve been handling it right by heading to the nearest dock as fast as safety allows.

But the negative reviews. “It’s all just quick-time events and gimmicks; not worth the money”, is what I’m getting. And that is the point at which I sit there and go, “Well, this game isn’t for you, then, is it?” If Soulslikes aren’t for me because I have neither the time nor spoons in any sense of the word to handle that level of difficulty, Zen games with eldritch horror elements intruding aren’t for them because that’s not their jam. I don’t know what the fuck they expected. What, being able to shoot the eldritch horrors? What were they expecting to be able to do? It’s exactly what it says on the tin; it is an eldritch horror fishing game; like if you took that one fishing game off Facebook, actually made it a mild to moderate skill challenge, and threw in some Outlast and a Sanity meter. For someone with my specific flavour of presumed ADHD, it is fucking perfect. It is made for me. It’s nice when I actually find a game that’s made for me for once.

I think the dumbest parts of the negative reviews is the hinted-at or outright stated “This shit is repetitive”. Because somehow, “Go to place; kill the thing” isn’t? At the end of the day, all games have repetitive elements. It’s practice that lets you be able to Do The Things. When it’s shooting dudes or stabbing dudes, or dodge-rolling or blocking or whatever you need to do to keep the dudes from shooting or stabbing you? Apparently repetition’s entirely fine then. It’s kind of aggravating that the kind of people who say “Just keep trying until you git gud” and laud a game that is literally about “if at first you don’t succeed, die, die again” complain about repetition and then turn their noses up at a Zen game filled with QTE and the occasional possibility of hyperfocusing past nightfall or being in an area where a giant one-eyed fish is coming to fucking eat you and you have no weapons because you’re a fucking fishing trawler hunting up occasional eldritch horror artefacts and possibly dooming the world, we dunno. ANYWAY.

So, yeah. Maybe it’s spite again. Maybe it’s just the massive unfairness of it all. But dear gods do I want to turn around to the people who complain about most games that aren’t in their CODlike / Soulslike / ARG wheelhouse and say, “Well, it isn’t for you”. Because it’s like they think that all games have to appeal to them directly, even when they’re denigrating people by saying “Go play your own games”. THAT IS LITERALLY WHAT WE ARE DOING. People are making games that appeal to people who aren’t them, and they still complain. They didn’t have to buy it. These games are usually pretty clear about what they are. Hell, DREDGE even had a demo, and it gave a pretty good indication of what the game was about. If they assume every game is tailored to their precise specifications and buy it without  the most cursory glance at a demo or a Let’s Play or anything? That’s on them.

Also, for the “Not worth the money at $25 or so”? These are people who’ll pay $80 or more for the latest shooter-fest or Soulslike. I’d rather give £20 or so to an indie company that’s probably actually paying its staff properly than $80 to a AAA gaming entity that’ll respond to the mass influx of cash by laying off all the people who earned them said mass influx of cash in the first fucking place.

Summary: Stay in your lane, gamer bros. They can’t just make games that are for you. You’re going to have to learn to share the space and not assume that every game is made to your precise specifications.

(Also I am not allowed to play DREDGE too close to bedtime on weekdays because the “one more turn” effect is strong with this fucking game and I do have a job.)

ok so. i’m gonna start with griffin. honestly i never really thought about how maxine’s relationship with him could play out bc it’s hard for me to imagine an opening for them to start a relationship. i mentioned in an earlier ask about max that griffin (and even vic) is off limits because despite her being reckless, cheating is just too messy for her. but if he wasn’t married and she did go out with him, i think they might work out until they couldn’t anymore. idk the extent of griffin as a rockstar but for maxine, part of it is business and a front to attract the media and direct the public’s attention to her music. no matter how wild she is, she still wants her downtime. being on rockstar mode can drain her so i think with the height of griffin’s fame and image, i don’t think they’d last. this hc might change tho sjsksks but yeah right now i see them better as industry friends and griffin being more like maxine’s mentor. he’s seen the dark side of the industry and maxine’s wild side so i can imagine him guiding her through the messy parts once her fame skyrockets

I’m glad Mountain Boy is meeting your family today! Congrats to your nephew! In our family newsletter I saw that on Thanksgiving one of my cousins had a gymnastics meet that they were inviting the family to and I was like man I would go if I still lived in Connecticut. I remember being invited along to my neighbor’s once and it was neat. When I was up visiting you my cousin was doing hers at the college which I think I told you about, you said it was pretty far away, like 5 hours right? She ended up spending the night with me at her grandma’s house the night before I left and I was taking a plane back to NC and she was going to be driving to NC that day as well. Her and her mom just came down to visit the 2nd week of November so her mom could run a race with my mom’s other cousin. And I’ll be looking forward to coming up next summer to visit you again!

I really would love to play dnd but I don’t have anyone to play with and I think I would need to play in person to really understand what’s going on. I was part of a test pilot group for a dnd-style game my friend and their brother pioneered and when I went to stay at their house my friend was like “by the way we’re talking about this game we made up” and both their brother and I were like “yeah OUR friend group was the test subject for that” and they were like OH RIGHT I FORGOT. They have a Friday family game night that I was crashing (they invited me to crash it since I was sleeping there, and invited our other best friend and her husband to crash it too if they wanted) but since it was Halloween it was more of a party where my friend and I watched Bluey for 2 hours and ate food their mom had made and we exchanged gifts and I got gifts too and I was like 😭 thank you 😭

I’ve been keeping it on the down-low but I’m dating again (really lowkey for right now because holiday season is retail is nightmare) but I haven’t really told anyone outside of my discord server because I was like “hey advice on this” and then my friend on discord I talk to every day and my best friend since she had to third-wheel the last date we went on since she was diving me around. My other friends have met her before but I doubt anyone remembers because my other best friend has the WORST memory (like forgetting we were the ones who demoed their game) but my other friend might remember because we all went to college together. I should tell my other friends I just have not.

You hate making plans with a certain friend of yours because they always flake or double book at the last minute.

Last week they skipped out on a much-anticipated lunch date in which they apologized for profusely, knowing that they have a highly stressful job you forgave them for it. But, to make up for the missed lunch, you suggested you could get pedicures at this cool salon someone told you about on social media.

It’s a smaller salon that asks for  a deposit when booking appointments for more than one person. Trusting that your friend would show up to the appointment you paid for both knowing that they would reimburse you later.

You’re waiting outside the salon for your friend only to receive a text from them telling you that they are not going to be able to get off of work. You reread the message with a groan and flop down on a bench in the shade. Your appointment in in 15 minutes and you wont be able to get your deposit back since your friend is a no show.

That’s like paying for two sets instead of just your own. Just as you are about the check your phone to see if any of your other friends would want to meet you last minute a large shadow moves to stand over you. Looking up you see the huge frame of Eijirou Kirishima standing over you are smiling ear to ear and holding a drink carrier with two drinks.

“Eiji? What are you doing here?” You ask thinking he was still on patrol for a few more hours.

“I just got off patrol and wanted to surprise you with a coffee. I brought one for your friend too, where are they?”

Your face falls “They couldn’t make it today.” Your sad eyes stare down at the cold drink in your hand. The condensation drips down the outside of the cup as you take a sip. The sweetness doing little to drown your sorrows,

“Again?” he asks sliding next to you on the bench and wrapping an arm around your shoulders. “Isn’t this to make up for last week?”

Despite the circumstance you smile at the fact your boyfriend pays attention to what’s going on in your life. “Yeah, it’s not entirely their fault though. I made the appointment and paid both of our deposits, now that they didn’t show I still have to pay for her appointment.”

“That sucks.” He sighs. “You don’t deserve to be cancelled on last minute, is there anything I can do?”

A little light bulb goes off in your brain and you turn to look at him with the most innocent expression on your face. “Actually Eiji, there is something you can do.”

“I know that look” he laughs taking a sip of the drink meant for your friend.

“Have you ever gotten a Pedicure?” you coo taking his hand.

“Never” he replies, “You may have to show me the ropes.”

“I promise,” you say leading him into the glass doors of the salon and going inside.

The inside of the salon smells like lavender mist and is much cooler than the blazing heat outside. You make you way to the counter hearing nothing but the silent sound of the trickling water fountain.

“This place is nice,” Kiri says in a hushed tone gently feeling the leaves of on of the large potted plants on the floor. “This is a real plant. It looks so good it thought it was fake.”

With a playful little sigh, you meet the man at the front desk. “Hi, I have a double booked at three.” You say as he scans his tablet.

“Y/n?” he asks, and you nod. “Come this way please.” The pair of you follow him to the back of the salon where the nail techs are. You sit in your massage chair and remove your sandals as Kirishima does the same.

When the swatch book comes around, he is a bit put off by the colored samples on the demo acrylics. “What’s this for?” he asks gently playing with the booklet

“You can choose the color you want you nails to be, but if you don’t want a color, you can get clear.

“Nah, I want red,” he beams selecting a fire engine red color. “My toes are going to look so manly.” Both you and nail tech filling the basin with hot water giggles at his enthusiasm. Then they signal to the two of you to place your feet in the steaming mixture of rose petals and tonics and your boyfriend lets out a little hiss while you remain unphased.

“It’s hot,” he says

“is it too hot?” you ask as he exhales sharply and plunges his feet back into the water.

“Nope, I can take it.” He smiles still sitting tensely in his seat as he waits for his body to adjust to the heat. You are so thankful that he is wanting to try something new with you your heart feels like its about to flutter out of your chest,

“What are those?” he asks pointing to the shiny black rocks on the technician’s cart.

“Those are for the stone massage, they’ll go on your feet

When the hot stones run up his legs he flinches at the contact. Before taking a deep breath “This feels really good.” You never knew that Eijirou had such sensitive feel, you can’t wait to see how he reacts at the next step, the sugar scrub.

The textured lotion scrapes along his skin as he lets out a series of giggles squirming in his seat like he has ants in his pants.  “It tickles y/n, I can’t help it.” He grips the arms of the chair and tries to settle his breathing. “Okay, okay, I think I’m good.

The tech resumes and Kirishima is biting his lip so hard that you’re scared he is going to hurt himself.

Thankfully he is able to contain his laughter and twitching enough of the poor technician to finish their task and avoiding an injury from the pro hero’s muscular limbs

“Are you doing better?” you ask as your nails are being delicately painted

“Yes, I’m good.” He giggles “As tough as nails.”

“You really are,” you laugh before looking at his red toenails. “They look good,”

They do, don’t they?” he says admiring the job. With a flex on his ankle.

“I think in almost done, ill meet you at the front.” You say as he is led away from your chair in some bright green disposable flip flops. You hear them squeaking all the way down the hall as he compliments his technician on a job well done.

Now that you are alone in your chair you miss his chatter and enthusiasm. You are also aware how just how much you’ll have to tip that poor tech who was nearly decapitated by one of Eijirou kick

Once you are done and dry enough to move you make your way to the counter to pay only to see that your boyfriend covered the both of you. Including a more than generous tip. With a few waves and the promise to come back to the salon the two of you exit the airconditioned air and step into the blistering heat of the outside world.

“Thank you for coming with me to the appoint Eiji,” you say giving him a hug

“That was so cool baby, I have to bring Bakugou with us next time.” He smiles walking you to your car

“That would be something” you laugh “Ill see you at home.” With a quick kiss you get into your car and start the drive home.

You and Eijirou may not have any secrets, but little does he know you and Bakugou got pedicures together last month.

VALIDATE!!  There's a demo on Steam and Itch.io that you can play RIGHT NOW and also a patreon you can support and I highly suggest it ^o^ It's a lovely VN with several playable characters and rlly good writing

Extreme Meatpunks forever is so SO good omg. It's a VN/mech brawler where u be gay and fight fascists!!! Trans and nonbiney ppl are out here being badass af. The game has cws/tws built into the game ( which i love sm ) Also there's a ttrpg on Kickstarter RIGHT NOW!! 

Another game with nonbinary characters is an rpg called Ikenfell! It was one of my favorite games to play last year and the music and just everything? Honestly so good I'm def replaying it this year. It also has tons of good accessibility features!

ok but i wanna geek abt ikenfell just a smidge more  U DON'T UNDERSTAND 3 OF THE PLAYABLE CHARACTERS ARE NONBINARY <333 The strongest playable character also uses ze/zir pronouns and I think that's pretty epic

Ok so like literally every game I've played by @analgesicprod I've loved 100% And Anodyne 2? Everyone should go play it and I will keep saying it until everyone does. And yes there's a trans character in it <3 Drem my beloved <3  Go check it out!!

Another game studio I love is @pillowfightio !!! They worked on Later Alligator, We Know the Devil, and Heaven Will Be Mine. I highly recc all of them but esp. Later Alligator cuz like just look at Joanie. They're so cool.  

In the game Everhood gender doesn't exist <3 Literally multiple characters are referred to with they/them pronouns and the gameplay is very enjoyable 

 CW LOTS of flashing lights and I feel like there should maybe be more cws but I'm not sure what else to add :l I guess a warning is that Everhood gets into more serious stuff and I'll be honest when the game first came out I had to put it down for several days b/c I just wasn't ready for a lot of that stuff, but I honestly liked the game a lot!

I was debating on adding this bc while I love this game there's some issues. So Gnosia is like werewolf ( or among us if you will ) but more narrative focused with time loops etc. There's two wonderful nonbinary characters and you can be nonbinary HOWEVER ( minor gnosia spoilers. skip past if you want to avoid it) . . . For some reason finding out the AGAB of one of the characters is mandatory and I fucking hate that. It's so unnecessary esp for the world building that's been done. Also tws for the game: sexual abuse / assault, gore ( in only one scene ) (spoilers end) but yeah I still added it because the characters are so neat and strong for the type of game it is and without that bit I wouldn’t feel so :/ abt recommending it. It’s pretty fun ngl

Wandersong!!! The main character is nonbiney and I love them <33 It's such a lovely little musical adventure with such a nice narrative and!! Some of the devs just released Chicory ( which I haven't gotten to play yet ;v; ) but check that out too!!

Bravery Network Online is super fun!! It's a turn based rpg that feels really good and has two characters that use they/them pronouns ( Fel and Reed ) the character designs are sooo good and the game is currently in early access!

I never thought I'd see a claymation point and click musical featuring a nonbinary detective but Dominique Pamplemousse is just that Need I say more?

A personal fav I think about every now and then is Dad fighter 30XX!! Like who doesn't wanna beat up their friend's shitty dad in the parking lot of a dennys?? Also the win music is my FAV
