Hello? Your tags? What’s going on with Dola in that rp?

Honestly I think Dola and Duck would be a fascinating swap because Dola has a very different story and I’ve mostly kept Duck canon but filled in scenes/expanded on the consequences of certain actions.

So that rp was born out of me and @fleur-de-leap wanting our OCs to interact, and somehow we landed on Dolasach finding herself stuck in Faith’s (Leap’s OC) reality after an assignment given by the Sorcerer’s Society went wrong.

Me going on and on way, way longer than I probably should’ve under the cut >.<

So in the RP, she accidentally destroys a strange artifact she was tasked with retrieving for the Sorcerer’s Society (I’m working a ton of headcanons into this RP >.>;;) because of a mistake she made while disarming all the protective enchantments on it. Gets knocked out for a while, wakes up, then heads home in defeat already dreading the report she’ll have to give. Just this already has her emotionally in shambles because she doesn’t take failure well at all, and failure on this scale has her wanting to give up her immortality and die

So long, long story short, breaking that artifact sent Dola into a completely different reality that’s almost a century in the past as at the time of her arrival, it’s three months into the exchange program and currently they’re having the retreat. To play it safe, she and Barbatos agree that she can’t give anything away and upon meeting Faith she realizes that it puts her in a place that she held a massive grudge against her reality’s Diavolo and Barbatos for—she can’t say anything about what’ll happen once Belphie’s freed from the attic

Which like. Puts her in a crisis because Faith’s so painfully undeserving of that fate but she doesn’t want to risk having the family never be reunited either. Lots of guilt because she hates that she has to keep that a secret from the other exchange student and she’s on the same side as Diavolo and Barbatos in this, so there’s the forced hypocrisy and understanding of their side of the story

And the sheer fear of everyone hating her once that event does happen—logically she knows that they aren’t her family but the fact that they’re still the same people with the same voice, face, personality. She doesn’t want to experience that and have it ingrained in her mind forever.

There’s also just a lot she has to deal with emotionally? The way her ‘loved ones’ look at her like she’s a stranger because to these versions of them, she is—and the worst of it is seeing a Satan that doesn’t love her. She was already missing them, doubly missing him, but can’t go to him for comfort and affection that she would’ve if it were her Satan. And she’s needing comfort so bad but has no one to get any from

There’s also the fact that despite everyone’s willingness to help here, no one’s actually sure if she actually can go back home. Lucifer brought it up in their first meeting and honestly Dola’s just hanging onto the hope that if the artifact she broke could send her here than successfully retrieving it in this reality and figuring out how to use it could bring her home. Right?

It’s in this RP where I realize that Dola’s an overthinking anxious mess when she’s directionless, and the succession of Difficult Things has her breaking down a few times within the first week, even in front of Satan, Solomon, eventually even in front of Barbatos too

There’s several points, especially early on in the RP where Dola’s just… Consistently unsettled and uncomfortable. Going around the Devildom and having nostalgia be a source of suffering comes up often. Everything reminds her that she shouldn’t be here, everything reminds her that she’s here because of her own mistake and failure

The strongest reminder being the lack of any imprint of her existence on the HoL. It’s uncanny and unnerving to her, more than she’d ever expect it to

This is getting long but man writing this out I feel like I’m almost driving her towards breaking because I’ve written her to be so deeply insecure about her self-worth and what constitutes her being of any value, she’s just good at keeping it together because keeping it together helps stave the Thoughts off (or at least makes it more bearable)

So when she sees that the brothers are just so much happier so much earlier into the exchange program with Faith, it messes with her pretty bad. It makes her really question a ton of shit about herself, her impact on the brothers, and make her look back on the kind of person she was when she was younger.

She won’t ever say anything to Faith, but she’s quietly growing jealous of a lot of things about her, even just the simple fact that she’s close with the brothers and that they’re so happy with her. And Dola hates that she feels that way because literally nothing about any of it is Faith’s fault, and she’s just a naturally nice and sweet girl so of course that’ll reflect on her relationships with everyone—but that’s also what she’s jealous and a little resentful of and it’s so sdfhjdsk she hates that she’s like that especially when she’s a century old and knows better

I think I described the sum of what she’s experiencing as the existential crisis of seeing a world where you don’t exist doing better than when you’re around?

Then there’s like… the silent understanding that she and everyone bonding with her has that it’s going to end with her leaving because she can’t possibly stay… And it makes her relationship with that reality’s Satan more complicated

And speaking of relationships, at some point she realizes that she’s growing feelings for Solomon while she’s there because he’s become her main source of comfort and because they spend a ton of time together working on getting her home and it’s like… Making her even more troubled because it just makes it harder to work with him (this RP was set before I decided to have Sol in the relationship so she’s just struggling with like… Not doing anything, not while she can’t talk anything through with her Satan >.<)

Throughout the RP she learns to cope and relax some, finding some ways to keep herself from dwelling too much on the negatives of her situation so she’s not just suffering nonstop. But it is all just pushed to the back of her mind through distractions and sometimes just letting herself cry it out in her room >.<

The RP isn’t all bleak and there’s honestly a bunch of cute fluff in there (like her actually becoming fairly close with Barbatos and Diavolo, Barbatos letting her take in a cat, a second ’retreat’ but its in Purgatory Hall and just the exchange students, then there’s a planned bit where the castle cat gives birth to kittens under Barbatos’s bed :’>) but like… Can’t really deny that Dola’s Going Through It and is just getting by because she’s adequately distracted from those thoughts + feels that she’s making progress getting home through recreating and developing the spells she used to get to the artifact.

(I’m so sorry that that’s so long??? I don’t know how to shorten things + well… the whole thing is like 500k words and counting…)

AND my gosh it really would be interesting to have Duck and Dola swap because at the time of starting the above RP, I hadn’t fully settled on what I wanted Dola’s version of the story to be and now that I have, it’s very different from canon. Like huge differences would be like

Dynamics with everyone would be SO different, especially since Dola’s only dating Satan and Solomon. The rest of the brothers have no romantic feelings for her and she’s never even seen them as romantic options

Pact acquisition’s different and in different order too

Dola gets back to her original timeline and because of that the way Belphie and the Lilith reveal are handled differently

Some events make it into her canon, including the Angelic Demons one so that affects her relationship with Diavolo and Simeon + iirc Michael was there so she met him too?

She started on learn magic as soon as possible and got some fundamentals down by the end of the first semester

Met Thirteen shortly after going to her cave

Haven’t settled on what I wanna do for them but her Sorcerer trials are different from what’s in canon

Becomes immortal not too long after becoming an official sorcerer

S4 doesn’t even happen for her as far as I can tell with where we’re at right now. There’s just no way she’s going to return to RAD and accept a government position at the age of like… 25

All among other things, but those would be the major differences? He not being close with Mammon and gravitating towards Satan, Asmo, and Solomon instead changes things a lot…

A Soukoku Fic Rec List From the Authors Themselves!

Hey everyone! This is gonna be a long rec list, so buckle up! My Soukoku Server alongside Chuuya’s Harem have had an event this past week asking Soukoku writers to rec the fics they’re most proud of writing for skk. It can be hard to get recognition in a big fandom, and sometimes as a fic writer it’s hard to feel proud of your work, so we wanted to spread some positivity and visibility while having fic authors be proud of all the hard work they’ve done! 

The submissions we’ve gotten over the past week are amazing! They range from tragedy to angst to fluff to crack and there’s something for everyone. It's a wip at 11chapters so far. However, I treat this like a sitcom fic, each chapter is like an episode of a comedy show.

It's based on an ADA tempered Dazai coming back and taking the helm of the Port Mafia, (sorta mentioning he's reforming it), with the focus on him realizing he's maybe in love with Chuya. And I aged them up here so it's my take on how older and more mature skk can get together and actually make a healthy relationship.

I have 3 fave oneshots, and I know some of the others are funnier (I have been so told, haha), but I feel like I really got the pacing of my humour writing the best in here. It's basically Chuya playing Dazai and Dazai knowingly and willingly playing along. I had fun with the idea that Chuya sends Dazai increasingly risque selfies while Dazai is at work during the day. XD

Also, Chuuya gets the upper hand and does not die.

It’s the first multi-chap fic that I’ve ever successfully completed, the word count makes it about as long as the third Harry Potter book, and it was written for my friend Lady based on our soukoku rp where Dazai convinces Chuuya to join the ADA. It’s my proudest work, I love it more than anything. 

“Fair Enough” http://archiveofourown.org/works/9054943 My longest oneshot ever and something I am particularly proud of because tealillie recced it which absolutely made my day. It’s a flowershop AU with a twist--Dazai is still a detective and Chuuya is an ex-convict, and Chuuya gets it bad for this detective; so bad he develops the hanahaki disease.

“Absolutely Ridiculous” http://archiveofourown.org/works/9607931 a bit short and fluffy about how Chuuya and Dazai like to take baths together. This is what really got me into wanting to write more fluff about these two and I just think it’s really funny? I’m very proud of it.

Dazai lay still on the white sheets with a small angelic smile gracing his face. He had even changed into a suit for the occasion. It all hurt Chuuya so much."

Dazai crept closer. The creature, which he soon reasoned was one of the younger servants, had bright, unkempt hair that fell to his shoulders in messy curls. The boy had the palest skin Dazai had ever seen, almost as pale as the sanguinaria planted nearby, and was currently asleep. Small splotches of sunlight waltzed across his innocent face through the leaves. It was a sight Dazai wouldn’t dare disturb if his curiosity and longing for novelty had been any less overwhelming."(edited)

This one also had a weird format that I had to plan a lot, and I was happy to pull it together.

"Winter Wonderland" http://archiveofourown.org/works/9102799 This is the purest fluff I have ever managed to write.  Nobody suffers at all, which in and of itself is an accomplishment.  Plus I had a great time writing it!

"Needs" http://archiveofourown.org/works/8541640 I like the different interactions in this one.  Lots of Chuuya hurting and Dazai comforting.  It highlights a softer side to Dazai and shows how aspects of their dynamic developed.
