Where is the "by vibe" option
I have a question
#generally it's by genre and by author last name#but that was years ago now i own too many books for that sort of organization#oh actually a lot of it is by size so i can put the books on their sides and fit more on a single shelf#but within that i'll try and keep the genre consistent#(thank u designers it automatically tends to be consistent)#i have enough books by single authors that I have some shelves just for one author#with a few similar vibe books thrown in the extra spaces#colour is a horrible option though I hate that so much#sure it's gorgeous but god at what cost#the CHAOS#i say this as someone who associates books with exactly the colour of their cover#it's not as though i'm just one to forget and so i wouldn't be able to find something#i sort by vibes for god's sake i know where to look for things even without a logical system#but colour i cannot abide#books#update: i voted and am horrified at the number of people who don't organize their books#do you at least keep authors adn series together#how do you sleep at night

tag organisation
the advantage of a new blog is that it's an opportunity to both simplify my tag system AND make it more consistent (loss of autofill tags really screwed me over on the old blog, i was relying on that). so:
resources, books, educational posts etc:
#resources - all links and recommendations to educational resources regardless of subject
#reading list - all book recs and lists regardless of subject, genre
#to read - tag for me to indicate that i want to read things (not necessarily a recommendation!)
#medlitres - book recs, links to resources etc for material relating to medieval literature, particularly medieval irish literature (deliberately abbreviated to remain specific to my blog rather than cluttering up existing tags)
#gaeres - recs and resources for material relating to irish (gaeilge)
if i want posts from medlitres and gaeres to show up for non-followers i will also use more generic tags like "gaeilge", "medieval" etc, this is purely for the sake of being able to search for them within my own blog
also general rule that when tagging for medieval irish texts or characters i don't use fadas, to aid in searching and tag consistency. blanket no-fada policy for all categorisation tags whether personal names or text names. might use fadas in non-organisational tags.
e.g. "culaeg", "laeg mac riangabra" etc as organisational tags, but "i love láeg in this scene" as a commentary tag might have a fada depending on whether i'm on mobile or not
personal tags:
#pearsanta - general personal posts
#blog business - posts about blog organisation, url changes, etc
#scriofa - all posts relating to my fics inc. writing updates, links, contemplating future fics, whatever
#gpoy - relatable posts. yeah i'm that old
#weasel management - mental health posting, primarily resources and helpful/hopeful posts, focus on recovery etc
#weasel crisis - mental illness posting for the days when the weasels win
#body fuckery - disability posting, painblogging, etc
on the whole i plan to do less personal posting here but i always say that and i never keep to it
i try to only post politics/current events when it's funny or when it's directly related to other things i share here (e.g. stuff to do with minority languages is relevant). tumblr is my space for shenanigans, not for serious posts about how awful everything is, and i have a lot of political keywords muted for that reason. that said if i do post politics (funny or not) i'll try to tag appropriately, e.g. #uk politics . general politically tinged stuff is #polaitiocht
everything else should be pretty self explanatory i think, though many of my generic tags are in Irish (#ceist for asks, #teangacha for things to do with languages, etc). you'll figure it out 👍
#blog business#i tested the links on mobile and they seem to work!#not all are populated yet though. give it time

Writer interview game!
Tagged by @eraserspiral, thank you for thinking of me!!
When did you start writing? oh it was young. i remember trading some truly godawful poetry with my friends at recess. buuuut i have never been particularly consistent in keeping up with it.
Are there different themes or genres you enjoy reading than what you write? Plenty of them! Mystery and satire are two standouts that i adore but don’t really write well.
Is there a writer you want to emulate or get compared to often? In terms of pulling inspiration, Tamsyn Muir takes up too much space in my brain (I made Gale read a heavily altered version of Harrow the Ninth out loud in a semi-recent chapter of Come Down whoops :/). outside of her I've probably intentionally taken the most influence from David Mitchell and Nnedi Okorafor
(definitely not been compared to any of them though. )
Can you tell me a bit about your writing space? ohohohoh this implies that i have a dedicated writing space and don’t just bust out my laptop when the mood strikes
What’s your most effective way to muster up a muse? if i'm working on a long project i force it sometimes, sit there and write nonsense until something seems usable and then build off that. if i was rich i’d travel more since i always seem to get the best inspiration on trains or at airports
Are there any recurring themes in your writing? Do they surprise you? Survival and loneliness vs connection tend to pop up pretty often. Definitely not surprising, but a little frustrating. anytime i finally think i've written something new, i'll go back, read it again, and say "shit this is about That again isn't it."
What is your reason for writing? I am plagued by demons that haunt me until i exorcise them via word vomit
Is there any specific comment or type of comment you find particularly motivating? honestly any feedback is motivating, but i do love hearing that someone’s had a strong emotional response to what i’ve written.
How do you want to be thought about by your readers? Hopefully as an enjoyable little freak writing enjoyable little freak things (enjoyable is a relative word here i know)
What do you feel is your greatest strength as a writer? in general, i want to believe i’m decent at keeping a consistent perspective/point of view. specific to fanfic i like to believe that i’m pretty good at staying within the “he would, in fact, fucking say that” boundary.
How do you feel about your own writing? i am trying to hate it less
When you write, are you influenced by what others might enjoy reading, or do you write purely for yourself, or a mix of both? it's a mix. i can be a little contrarian so sometimes i'm more influenced by what's popular via trying to avoid it. that said i'm not out to torture anyone reading either so i do try to consider certain writing choices carefully
some very very optional tags: @antimonyantigone @anosrepasi @sweetmalice26 and any other writing followers who would like to try, please do and tag me so I can seeeee

Heya! Right back atcha for the shop talk ask meme!
🎻- Where do you look when you need some inspiration?
💥- What does your writing schedule look like?
🎻- Where do you look when you need some inspiration?
That depends! My brain is a magpie; I rarely look and think 'oh, I need inspiration, I'm going to do X.' Instead, if I'm feeling stale or uninspired, I just pursue whatever my current interest is or seek out whatever looks fun/different.
That said: generally, I try to read/consume within the genre or setting that I'm seeking inspiration for. Example: when I was into Dishonored, I happened to go to a local maritime museum with my mother and soaked up a lot of info (most of which I've already forgotten, alas) and it helped me feel more grounded in the setting I was trying to write. I read more horror fiction when I was writing a more horror-adjacent fic. I also love romance novels and will often read them not just as brain candy, but as a way of figuring out emotional beats for relationship arcs when writing shipfic.
Nonfiction books are great. Museums are better. Doing something physical and mindless (going for a jog, walking the dogs, etc) without a distraction like my phone or music are also good when I'm trying to answer "what happens next?" for a particular story.
💥- What does your writing schedule look like?
I try to be consistent, even if it's not daily. I try to sit down and write a few lines in a Mead notebook, because something about the act of physically writing feels more freeing to me than staring at the blank page of my laptop. I'm also a weirdo where if I get a specific line or piece of dialogue in my head, I'll try to write it down, even if it's just on a Post-It note I stick in my pocket. I don't always use these fragments, but it keeps me mentally limber.
When I sit down for planned writing (as in, intentionally trying to work on a particular fic and type it up) I try to give myself at least half an hour of uninterrupted time, a warm drink (preferably tea), and put my phone out of reach so I won't be tempted to scroll.
Thank you for the ask! I feel like so many of my answers fall into 'that depends' just because my work schedule varies, and I can't always do 'morning pages' or whatever because I need to feed and walk the dogs whenever I wake up!

20 questions for fic writers
Thanks for the tag @chameliyun!
How many works do you have on ao3?
Eight I think! Mostly longform which is why the number is so low lol
2. What's your total ao3 word count?
503,612
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Currently I'll write for Death Note, My Hero Academia, Hunter x Hunter, Demon Slayer, One Piece, Soul Eater, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Doctor Who. I have VLD fic up on my ao3 but I don't write for that fandom anymore lol
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
Starbound (VLD, 294), Ground Zero (MHA, 223), Far Longer Than Forever (VLD, 76), Tales From Wammy's House (DN, 62), and The Ghosts Within Us (HxH, 57)
5. Do you respond to comments?
I'm usually super late to respond lol but yeah I try to get to all of them! I love interacting with people and I treasure all the feedback I get!
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
All my ao3 fics (excluding Tales From Wammy's House, which is a collection of short stories I wrote as part of a fandom event) are unfinished, but I know which one is gonna have the angstiest ending... no spoilers though!
7. What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Again, they're all basically unfinished so no spoilers!
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Haven't so far so hopefully I never will lol
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I am physically incapable of writing smut. I know some ace people write it no problem, but... I am not one of those people lol
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I'm open to crossovers but I can't recall any that I've actually written. Usually I prefer to do them in the same sort of genre (for instance, a MHA/Marvel crossover or Pirates of the Caribbean/One Piece kind of thing where there's a sort of plausibility in setting)
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
If I have, I don't know about it. Not sure why anyone would bother though lol
12. What's the longest you've spent working on one fic? And the shortest?
Longest: I've been working on A Shot in the Dark since 2020 though I don't update it much anymore. But I don't want to abandon it at this time so I'll count it as ongoing.
Shortest: Tales From Wammy's House since it was for a week-long challenge lol
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes! Second Chances is co-written with the amazing @til-the-static-comes :)
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
I'm a big canon/OC shipper so I'm really attached to my canon/OC (and OC / OC) pairings moreso than most canon/canon, buuuut my favourite all-time canon/canon ship is still the Doctor/Rose Tyler; you can pry them from my cold dead hands. Killugon (Gon Freecss/Killua Zoldyck from HxH) is a close second.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
A Shot in the Dark is already so bloody long and I'm still a ways away from finishing it, but I'm gonna try, I promise.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Dialogue, I think. And I'm pretty good at character-centric stories.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I'm not great at poetic, descriptive writing since I'm usually more interested in what characters are thinking/feeling rather than their external traits/environment. That might be more of a style thing though. I do have a bad habit of making characters monologue for a little too long sometimes, and relying too much on internal monologues too.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
Oooh okay so I actually have so many thoughts about this!! I think it's a really effective tool if done properly-- I frequently use languages other than English in my writing since a lot of my characters tend to be bilingual. For me, it's really important to use it in the right moments that make sense within the narrative, and keep a logical kind of consistency to that rule. In my own writing -- I'll use my MHA fic Ground Zero as an example since I do it a lot there -- I like utilizing other languages in moments that reveal something about the character (Kova's foreignness/identity as a biracial/cultural Japanese-Ukrainian teenager is a major theme of her character and of the story) or when it creates moments in which a character's dialogue is supposed to be impenetrable to other characters in that scene AND THEREFORE to the reader as well-- but I DON'T use it (even though the character would technically be speaking another language in that scene) when I WANT the reader to understand what's being said. In Ground Zero, when Kova is having a phone conversation with her Ukrainian father, she's obviously speaking Ukrainian to him, but I don't write the conversation in Ukrainian because I want the audience to understand the dialogue-- and because that would be really, really annoying for a reader to have to wade their way through, assuming most of my readers are not fluent in Ukrainian (and neither am I, for the record-- I know a bit, but not enough that I don't have to check with external resources created by native speakers). But in contrast, when Kova is with her Japanese friends, if I drop a Ukrainian word/phrase into the conversation, the reader is getting the experience of the friends, and both the characters and the reader are meant to share in that confusion until Kova translates it. (Example: Bakugou is not meant to know that Kova has been calling him a dickhead (khuylo), but the WAY she says it is meant to convey that she's being derogatory so he's somewhat aware he's being insulted without me having to put a translator's note right after). I do translate and put the Latin lettering (as opposed to the Cyrillic) in the notes section at the bottom of each chapter, though.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Ever? Pokemon. On ao3, VLD.
20. Favorite fic you've written?
I'm so close to finishing Ground Zero and it has such a special place in my heart so I'll pick that one :)
no pressure tagging: @shrinkthisviolet, @deathbecomesnerds, @chickensarentcheap, @antivanruffles, @til-the-static-comes, and anyone else who sees this and wants to!

for the writing asks: 13, 37, 46, 77?
13. what’s a common writing tip that you almost always follow? - i guess i don't really, but just like when i'm writing an essay for class or whatever i try to let a draft sit for at least several hours (ideally overnight) before i get to editing and posting
37. How do you choose where to end a chapter? - vibes, usually. i usually try to be at least a little consistent with chapter length within a multichapter work but i won't trim or expand a scene just to fit a target word count. my goal is to tell some kind of micro story or arc within each individual chapter, so when i feel like the story has reached its proper destination for that particular leg of the journey, i'll end the chapter there. (although i have broken up a really long chapter in a draft into two or more shorter chapters for publishing; usually this happens when i start out writing a oneshot and it just keeps growing and growing...)
46. How would you describe your style? (Character/emotion/action-driven, etc) - character driven for sure, even when there's action involved it's for the sake of character development or exploration LOL. "two guys sitting around and doing absolutely fuck all except talking" is like a staple genre for me. i also think of my style as being very detail oriented, though i can never tell how it comes across to other people. i've been told before that i write intimacy very well (not necessarily romantic or physical intimacy which, to be honest, i don't write much at all).
77. Do you have a favorite scene you’ve written from [Fanfic Name] story/chapter? - which story?

11.5.24
1) Spend some time simply discussing the form of your New Yorker without opening it. If it's useful, you might double back to our Prownian Analysis worksheet. What are the object’s material features? What information is a part of its form? How does it reflect certain notions of "genre?" What things does it expect that you recognize or take for granted?
I feel like this cover of The New Yorker makes me remember what it's like to be small in a big city. Almost every building in the night scene is lit up, making it look like the city is alive and well even though it's late. It looked like New York place right away, which makes sense since The New Yorker is so obsessed with this place. It's funny that you don't even need to see a title or street sign to figure out where this scene is. It's like The New Yorker knows that its readers will just "get it."
The two people holding hands on the roof, on the other hand, make it feel very different. Seeing only two people in this huge city makes me feel very close to them and maybe even a little lonely, like they're trying to find a quiet place in the middle of all this noise. That hits home for me. It makes me think of them standing there and watching the world go by, which is strangely soothing. Even though New York is very crowded, The New Yorker seems to be trying to show that people can still find time to meet and be alone.
This cover is great for The New Yorker because it combines art and city life in a way that is both intellectual and nostalgic or reflective. People who are "in the know," like people who know about New York's sites and like this mix of intimacy and urban intensity, tend to read this magazine. It expects readers to know the city without being told and to be able to connect to this mix of busy city life and quiet times. It's pretty cool how all of that can be shown in one picture.
2) Move into the magazine. I suppose now I'll call it a "magazine," but it might be worthwhile to think of this as an alien observer would--holding your expectations at one remove so that you notice with more depth and precision. Take the same approach to the "insides" that you took in step one. Describe everything about its form, layout, and materiality that you can. What sits next to what? Again, how does it engage with or create a sense of genre? What things would you typically NOT notice?
The New Yorker's layout is easy to spot: shorter, funnier pieces at the front, longer, more in-depth articles in the middle, and lighter content or cartoons at the end. I don't have a physical copy with me, but I can see from other issues that there is a clear pattern. Each part is carefully put together to make it easy for readers to move from casual to intellectual material and back again. With well-balanced white space, consistent fonts, and small, tightly controlled design details, the pages feel like they were put together by a professional.
Ads are placed so that they don't stand out and look like they're part of the content. Cartoons, on the other hand, add a bit of humor to break up the gravity. It's hard to tell how predictable the framework is because every part seems to be there to keep readers interested without them even realizing it. Overall, this layout fits the style of The New Yorker: it's polished, understated, and always stylish.
3) Look at the fictions in the magazine. What are they next to? How are they laid out? And finally, hope might all of these formal and material considerations have bearing on the meaning of the stories within the magazine--the meaning that the reader creates and that an author, ultimately, must take into consideration. How is the magazine a "wundertopf" that makes its own demands on what authors collect?
Fiction in The New Yorker is usually tucked between serious essays, ads, and sometimes cartoons. This gives it a calm place to breathe in the magazine's mix of material. There are usually fiction pieces in the middle or back, which makes you want to slow down and read them after the more recent or quick articles. These stories feel high-class because of the clean style and white space around them. It's like they're set apart for a reason.
The way the stories are set up affects how we read them, making them feel like they are part of a bigger conversation with the intelligent tone of the magazine. This magazine has a polished, city-like voice, so fiction in it feels like it was meant to connect with cultural problems or ideas that we already want to think about. It's almost like the magazine is a "wundertopf," which is a container that gives meaning to what's inside it. They know that their stories will be read in this smart, thoughtful setting, so they choose themes that fit with that mood.
Imagining Saunders' stories as being written just for readers of The New Yorker changes the way I think about his work. He knows that he's writing for a magazine with smart, city-dwelling readers who expect wit, cultural insight, and a good mix of humor and intelligence, so it's clear that his style and subjects are meant to meet those needs. Saunders' mix of comedy, social criticism, and dark humor fits right in with The New Yorker's style. People who read the magazine are probably interested in both weird cultural things and big social problems.
In this setting, his stories aren't just meant to be fun; they're meant to connect with people who like comedy and taking a critical look at society. The serious ads, highbrow essays, and polished tone of the magazine make his characters and topics stand out even more. These often show the absurdities or struggles of everyday life. Knowing that he writes in this setting makes me think that his style, which is a mix of humor and sadness, is perfectly suited for people who like to think about the world and make smart comments about it.

Personal Library TBR *Shelves*
I love having my own personal library -FINALLY!!! After almost 2 decades of keeping my "library" in the sturdiest boxes I could find (including shoe boxes for my mass-market size guys and manga), moving 3 TIMES, and dreaming about my glass cabinet library, we found the perfect bookcases -in the perfect color- and finally started to make my "book nook" dreams reality. Seriously, it was hard to say goodbye to that og-Chegg box...best box I could ask for to hold my pristine hardcovers.
I never actually posted the finished product -well, 80%ish done- mostly because I wanted it to be "perfect". Nothing really changed in the visual dept except I bought some more books lol. Really hoped I could have a proper seating arrangement by now, but that hasn't worked out both with money and the practical-vs-wishful. What I want is too expensive and too big. Instead, we ended up partially finishing 2 other 'quadrants' of the basement: we have an air hockey table and a 'gaming quarter' where the Nintendo systems, board games, and whatnot have their home. All we need is a small coffee table and some additional wall art/hangings. My Tohru Honda and Grimmjow wall scrolls are perfectly displayed where all can admire them^_^ Hubby's bar will be the remaining quadrant (he can't wait, but he has to). I'LL POST PICTURES SOON!!!
Now, to the reason for the title of this post... I think I'm fairly unique in my organizational methods due to the fact that I actually have shelves dedicated to books I haven't read that I probably will not keep. This includes titles that I have either been given, got as giveaways, purchased, and brought home from my library (my job) because I weeded my collection -we can talk about that at a later time or you can look it up. Not getting into the particulars of my personal collection's "weeding policy", it's safe to say that I know I need to read what I have in order to not expand the not-here-to-stay shelves. Thus, I have dubbed them the TBR Shelves. How many do I have? There are 3 dedicated shelves that only consist of what I haven't read: 2 YA and one Harlequin LIH (double-stacked). The rest of the shelves have a mixture, but they're genre-fied and 'author-betized' and they're perfect the way they are...mostly, but that's not today's problem.
Problem: I'm having a bit of a crisis in my reading preferences lately and I need to force myself to read what I've been ignoring so I can stop feeling that poking feeling every time I go down to find my favorite thing to re-read again. See my problem? Not yet? I've been very stressed and that leads me to re-reading. I'm also coming to terms with the changing YA market and I need to start reading what's coming out now so I can honestly tell my kids, "yes, I've read that!" instead of, "I started it, but didn't get around to finishing it...><". This habit of reading maybe 5 chapters of a new book and then moving on to the next is truly the worst. It's horrible. I need to stop and that's what I'm working on right now.
Solution: Honesty. I started talking to my kids about it because I can't just keep saying, "Well I can't read everything". They're at least as blunt as I am about it and I need that. Trying to come up with a way to get them involved with what I'm currently reading without giving them access to my Goodreads (because minors) and maybe even giving them control of my next read... that makes me cringe every time I think about it. Anyway, my goal is to read a mixture of new and fairly recent YA within my other reading habits. My additional goal is to make a significant dent in the unread LIH shelf. It became a back-burner TBR since they stopped publication of the imprint and I didn't have as much pressure to read through them. More recently, it's gotten annoying to the point I'm almost reading 3 a week (if I don't pause). Only just started, but I already finished 6 lol. It takes 3-4 hours to read through one -easy, right? Consistency is key, so my best is all I can offer.
Currently reading: The Dark Becomes Her by Judy L. Lin. Really liking it so far and I hope I'll be done by the weekend so I can post the review to NetGalley and Edelweiss. It comes out Oct 1st and I want to be able to be that Teen Librarian and boast my opinion of it fully -mwuahahaha.
Thank you for reading!
What are you reading? [OR] What are your goals for the rest of the year?

Player Engagement (Retention)
Player Engagement - Frustration = Growth
Hard to quantify the subjective nightmare that is this equation, but there are ways to navigate it.
Some games are genre-locked (Tac. Shooters, Fighting Games, etc.) and have dedicated structures in place to ensure a specific type of player is who is being targeted. Any other players who wander into the that type of game's periphery are probably gonna want to go looking for outside content to show them the ropes (or be content as a Button-Masher/Elim-Trader).
Others, who tend to go for wider audiences, will pigeon-hole around specific mechanics or standards (The Holy Triad of Tank/Support/DPS, is a popular choice, while limited arsenals can account for varied playstyles in a large playerbase), creating unique experiences per player in a shared environment.
Other games will narrow gameplay, ensuring one type of execution is pretty much the best option at any time or in any circumstance, attracting refinement and expertise from it's playerbase, who can in turn teach others (through varied methods) how best to approach the game. (Side-scrollers, rogue-likes, etc.)
With each of these examples, there's a level of Engagement that's being restricted that will automatically turn-off or bounce certain video game players off of the gameplay just at launch.
I think often, how much of a problem I have with the way new RPGs turned away from the classic strategy of turn-based combat and toward the fast-paced reflex-with-a-menu-screen that many popular titles prefer now. A genre that, for all other purposes, fits deeply into my appreciations and values- but I'll pass over a game in that genre, if only for the detrimental need to be as responsive and quick as possible in the decision-making of which menu to have open, which spell/attack/defense to use, all the while things are happening or about to happen outside of the menu. Parallel perspectives with unstable consistency between them.
But that decision also comes as a choice for what your Playerbase is going to be. Developers make the active choice to target a specific playerbase with these various restrictions/options of play.
All of that can lead to a streamlined ease-of-access/play that is beneficial for retention/Engagement. They also come with their own problems and flaws, much of which can be alleviated with creative choices. The recognition is that:
Your playerbase is going to have an upper limit on population, due to certain limitations on what sort of fun can be had in it.
And that's perfectly acceptable.
You can pressure valve Frustration in your playerbase, so that it doesn't build up to the point of hemorrhaging players when said Frustration reaches a critical point (regardless of your content releases, which are a novelty band-aid, at best).
-----
Then, of course, you've got games so wide the approach is meant to attract
Everybody
The absolute largest playerbase possible. The Omni-game that shalt be unto a religion; that regulars and non-video gamers will recognize as The Game, to explain video games.
MMOs, tend to attract this level of ambition most often (also, consequently, a parallel level of frustration in development and gameplay), as do many 'Open World' efforts. More rare are the games that try to crush a lot of different genres and levels into their gameplay; many of which end up bloated and constantly renovating the experience.
In other words, there's not enough stools for everyone who showed up at the Grand Opening, so they keep re-designing the restaurant interior to accommodate the crowd...without realizing the restaurant just isn't big enough, comfortable enough, possessing of enough resources for that unimaginably massive number they want eating there.
By including as many different experiences, rewards, skills, spells, tokens, weapons, classes, races, and creative expression a player can customize, there's the risk of alienating people within your own playerbase; locking them away from certain content areas that are designed with certain mechanics, and by extension, experts in those mechanics, in mind.
If "End Game Content" is meant for grinders who put in the work, but that work entails a massive bundle of info., dedication, resources (time, patience, energy, money, etc.), then at some point inside of the ambition phase of development you're going to have to contend with the monster that is Frustration.
And, in doing so, understand your game is going to constantly be playing Whack-a-mole with your playerbase, whose Frustrations will climb without any bleed-off/pressure release, because you've got to give other portions of that playerbase something to do specific to their level of Engagement or "fun".
Which is, itself, a stopgap. Eventually, that Frustration in every different part of your playerbase, will grow and result in complaints and vitriol, no matter what new content you release-
Because the Frustration has Outgrown any Engagement in your game and there's always going to be more novelty out there to distract; a path of least resistance, that siphons away the resource-sink of a player's attention.
#game design#player retention#frustration vs. engagement#yes Overwatch I'm still looking at you#but also current game industry beliefs that are atrocious and wrong and only get more atrocious and wrong over time

I like this more mature version of Kate, I’m not quite sure how old she is here, but it’s been at least a decade since MAGIC BITES. She’s at least in her late thirties, possibly in her early forties, and she makes a few references to what she would’ve done before and how she’s changed. She’s consistent with the threads of that earlier self, but she’s older, wiser, and has a very different set of resources and connections than she had by the time the main series ended. I hope this can be a good starting point for new fans, and I’m excited to see where it goes.

The Kinks: How the Slice of an Amp Birthed a New Genre
by Corinna Boeck
When The Kinks– whose lineup at the time included brothers Ray and Dave Davies, Mick Avory, and Peter Quaife– recorded “You Really Got Me” in 1964, no one knew they would be releasing a record that would forever change the trajectory of rock music.
In a time of Beatlemania in the UK, record companies were keen on emulating their sound with new acts. One such act was The Kinks. The band’s chief songwriter, Ray Davies, originally wanted to create R&B music, but this would change within the band’s first three singles. The development of The Kinks’ sound was something of a microcosm of the development of rock music in general, as the genre originated as a contemporary extension of R&B.
Ray Davies originally wrote “You Really Got Me” on the piano as an R&B track. Initially, the record company they were signed to, Pye Records, refused to let them record the song, because their producers didn’t see it becoming a hit. After a number of successful performances of the song in the months that followed, the label finally let them record it. According to “The Kinks: All Day and All of the Night" by Doug Hinman, Ray recalled, “They said, ‘You’re going to go in the studio and they’re going to let you do ‘You Really Got Me’. You’re happy now, are you?’” (Hinman 2004) The original recording from their session at Pye was much slower and bluesier. Ray was unimpressed with the results, and opposed its release. After much dispute, Pye agreed to let them re-record the song, as long as they paid for the session time. It was during this session that Dave Davies made the seemingly destructive but effectively revolutionary decision to slice part of the speaker of his amp with a razor, creating a distorted sound. This decision, however, came from anger rather than an attempt to reshape rock music. Davies told The Guardian in 2013, “I was full of rage… I was very depressed and fooling around with a razor blade. I could easily have slashed my wrists, but I had a little green amplifier, an Elpico, that was sounding crap. I thought, "I'll teach it" – and slashed the speaker cone.” The result, when hooked up to another louder amp, was a raw, gritty, compelling sound that became the final released recording of “You Really Got Me” in July 1964. The song’s quick, punchy guitar had an undeniable energy that kept people wanting more. The sound was revolutionary for the time, and led to their immediate rise and landed them a number one spot on the NME charts later that month.
The lyrics consist mainly of a few lines repeated several times over throughout the song, including “Girl, you really got me goin'/You got me so I don't know what I'm doin'” and “Girl, you really got me now/You got me so I can't sleep at night”, and, of course, just “You really got me/You really got me/You really got me” This simplicity conveys the point of the song, which Ray Davies says was about being “so overwhelmed by the presence of another person and you can’t put two words together.”
From the beginning, The Kinks went against attempts to perfectly groom them for commercial success, from attempts to keep their sound consistent with what was popular or fixing their physical appearances, such as trying to hide the gap in Ray’s front teeth. The band kept their instinct of self-expression, leading to their experimental sound that captivated listeners– after conventional production failed to produce them a hit. Some call The Kinks the first punk band, but there really isn’t a way to pin down just one. The Kinks weren’t intentionally “punk”, though their name certainly makes them sound like a punk group– punk rock had yet to really exist, and even when the genre and the culture surrounding it took off, it would still be years before the biggest acts in the scene would embrace the word or even take kindly to it. Nonetheless, the origins of The Kinks’ success has an undeniable punk ethos in that they just fought to do things their own way, and it was with “You Really Got Me” that their insistence on getting the sound right over creating something designed for commercial popularity proved not only successful, but crucial. But sound wasn’t the only way “You Really Got Me” embodied the spirit of what would be punk. Dave Davies said “When we started recording we couldn’t argue with the record company. But this time we insisted on doing what we wanted. Well, what could we lose?… the song came out of a working-class environment, people fighting for something.” Particularly in the UK, the Punk movement, which grew in the 70s, was at its core a working-class movement, born of young people dissatisfied with the economy and with suburban culture.
But the true results of “You Really Got Me”’s influence would continue to unfold over the next two decades. Numerous metal and rock bands, from The Ramones to The Clash to Oasis have named The Kinks as an influence, and this sound started with that song. Pete Townshend of The Who called Ray Davies’ lyrics “"a new kind of poetry and a new kind of language for pop writing that influenced [him] from the very, very, very beginning.”
That gritty sound that they used, not just on “You Really Got Me” but on various other tracks, from other songs on their debut album including “All Day and All of the Night” and “Revenge” to later hits like “Lola”, set their sound apart from other groups. The combination of Ray’s striking, poetic lyrics with Dave’s pioneer guitar riffs (the group has been called “predecessors of the whole three-chord genre”) made them one of the most influential bands of the British invasion, and the genesis of heavy metal and punk rock.

Omg 6 & 8 & 16 for the steddie game I need to know what u think !!! 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹
6. Ghost Eddie or Vampire(Kas) Eddie? Why?
Answered over here :)
8. Favorite Steddie Headcanon you’ve read or written?
Ugh. SO MANY CHOICES. I guess one trope I'll never get tired of is Steve constantly wooing Eddie with dates and romantic gestures even after they've already slept together, and Eddie continuously overwhelmed by that and awkwardly trying to reciprocate as much as possible despite having zero experience with actual romance / dating regardless of sexual experience. 🫠
16. What Steddie headcanon do you feel is overdone? (optional: how would you alter it to make it fresh again?)
Gave one answer over here so trying to think of something else... Perhaps Eddie being all bitchy and condescending about Steve's music. Cos a) I don't think Eddie would actually do that if he was interested in / loved Steve, and b) I don't see him as a hardcore metalhead who absolutely wouldn't listen to anything else. He's young. Hey millennial babies, how many of us were punks/goths/emo back in the days? Did everyone's playlist really consist only of one music genre? For some, maybe, at least to keep up appearances within their current clique, but not for everyone. Most importantly, is everyone from back then still a hardcore punk/goth/emo? That was a rhetorical question. And yeah, maybe he wouldn't like cheesy pop, but he'd learn to play slower, softer renditions on his acoustic just because when he plays them Steve looks at him like he hung the moon and stars.

⤍ treasure reaction: you have really bad period symptoms (part one)
↳ a/n: lowercase intended. i'll be uploading this in two separate parts (part two) ↳ requested? yes ↳ genre: fluff ↳ warnings: none
★ hyunsuk
he will literally dote on your every move. his days consist of countless trips to the store to grab you food your craving, a heating pad for your cramps or a new plushie toy you can cuddle when he has to go to practice.
hyunsuk is also quite good at dealing with the mood swings, when you cry he feels himself getting emotional, not wanting to see you sad. when you're angry and yelling at him for something dumb, he will hug you and rub your back, apologizing right away even he has no idea what he's apologizing for
"tell me what you need and it'll be here in ten minutes at the latest."
★ jihoon
kind of similar to hyunsuk, he will go to the ends of the earth for whatever you need....... but not without a bit of teasing. jihoon pretends to drag his feet as he leaves for the store, but the smile on his face tells all. he will cheeks or playfully hit your arm to try and distract you from the cramps.
if you experience insomnia, waking up multiple times or not being able to fall asleep, jihoon will stay up with you, talking to you, watching your favorite show or sing to you while massaging your back.
"do i really have to go to the store again? i'm just kidding baby, of course i'll go for you. if you think of anything else text me."
★ yoshi
yoshi is really good at remembering small things about you, like favorite drinks, snacks, songs, etc. when you complain of pain and that your period had started, he would immediately stop by the store, grabbing your favorite snacks (as long as they won't make your cramps worse), and some soothing tea to help you sleep. he'll also make sure you have enough of whatever sanitary product you use.
when he has to leave for practice, he will make you a fresh cup of tea and set everything you will need within arms reach of you so you don't have to move much. naps are also something he always recommends as it helps you pass the time and not focus on the pain.
"drink this tea and take a nap, sweetheart. call me if you need anything, okay?"
★ junkyu
at first junkyu doesn't take you super seriously, he knows you're in pain but he forgets sometimes just how much it is. like if he suggests to go out on a date or do something physically strenuous, you have to remind him that you don't really feel like it and you're in quite a bit of pain.
as time goes on, though, he learns your mannerisms and knows your symptoms and how to help like the back of his hand. lower stomach massages are his favorite because he can cuddle up to you, simultaneously helping you sleep and helping soothe the cramps.
"does this feel okay, baby? you should get some rest, i'll keep massaging you."
★ jaehyuk
similar to hyunsuk but 10000% more doting. will do absolutely anything and everything to help you through your period. if you have particularly bad cramps, he will urge you to not go to work, not even lift a finger or do anything that can make it worse. he will smother you in kisses to make you laugh if you're feeling upset or mood swings are getting to you and he won't stop until your cheeks hurt from smiling.
stays by your side, getting you warm water bottles, medicine, he even developed a great cuddling technique to help you sleep plus, he's the absolute best at massages. he will even beg hyunsuk and jihoon to let him skip practice for the day so he can stay with you.
"i'm taking the day off today so i can stay with you, sweetheart, now just sit back and i'll make a snack for you."
★ mashiho
he's one of the most prepared every time your period comes around. he keeps track on his phone so he knows around the time it'll be coming so he isn't surprised at all when you wake up to excruciating cramps.
he's there by your side with warm tea and breakfast in bed, he'll sing to you so you can go back to sleep and his favorite thing is running a hot bath for you and sitting with you, massaging your back and stomach. when he is away at practice, he tells you to call him if you can't sleep and he will sing over the phone so you can get some rest.
"can't sleep, baby? okay get comfy, i know the perfect song to sing."

MILESTONE 10.0 KNY match ups
May I get both SFW and NSFW for a fem!reader please?
I would like to see who you think I would end up with.
HIHI!! It's been a while! Congrats on your milestone! that's amazing! I've always been such a big fan of your work and I will never forget the Rengoku comfort/nsfw one shot you wrote for me. It really helped me while I was trying to get over my ex boyfriend.
I am a Leo so as you can imagine I always stand my ground and defend my friends and family. I'm not necessarily the bubbly type, but more so the reserved (probably more so because of my crippling social anxiety lol). I use humor to cope with said crippling anxiety and also bake a lot when I am stressed therefore my friends are always receiving baked goods. Other hobbies of mine include playing video games, painting/drawing, and writing. When I am with my s/o my ideal dates range from just staying in and cuddling to going out for a picnic to the beach to random adventures. My music taste consists of rock music, alternative, r&b, some metal and other things within those genres.
Can't wait to see what you think!
Congrats again on your milestone, you really deserve it! 🥳❤️
MILESTONE 10.0
💞: Rengoku Kyojuro
has yet to master baking the macaron, but keeps trying every year (for your birthday). He's only a tad envious of how gorgeous and delicious yours are, aaand also refuses your offers of assistance and tips. "Kyo, honey, are you sure you-" "I am ready, my love! In approximately four hours, you shall have the most perfect macarons to munch on!" And in approximately four hours, you have oddly shaped (clearly he didn't bother piping them), slightly flat (he probably left them resting for too long), and soggy (a lot of filling) macarons — to munch on. "They defeated me," he declares, eyebrows furrowed. "You can try again tomorrow," you smile softly, fond giggles restrained for the sake of his pride. "And what do we do with these?" he mumbles. "I'll bring them in to work," you nudge his shoulder, eyes twinkling, "They won't go to waste. I promise."
is a huge fan of chicken fights (typically fought in waist deep water; in teams of two; one person sits on the other's shoulders; with the goal of knocking the opposing pair over). Partnering with him is practically a guaranteed win, regardless of how steady you are up top, because he's an immovable base (and extremely competitive).
18+NSFW below
if you're horny and he's... well... tired, then he still encourages you to sit on his face. Too tired to fuck ≠ too tired to pleasure you. Besides, riding his tongue isn't as involved as, say, fingering you, with generally easier clean up as well (unless he gets you to squirt, in which case, neither method is particularly contained). "Don't worry about me, Kyo. I know how to get myself off," you huff cutely, thumbing the waistband of your panties. "I know you do! But I really would not mind bringing you to one or two orgasms," he counters earnestly, tongue poking out. Chewing at your bottom lip, you press your tits against his bicep, eyelashes fluttering, "You're sure you don't mind being my sex toy?" Groaning lowly, his bright stare darkens, fatigue receeding to the edges of his vision at your coy tone, "I do not mind in the slightest!" mouth curving confidently, "I hope you can handle more than one or two orgasms." "Let's see if you can stay awake for three," you wink, loud squeal filling the bedroom as he promptly tugs you upward, cock twitching at the feel of your thighs warm and snug around his head.

🎶- Never Not - Lauv
Right. That was all it was. It felt right. Slowly, you registered the voice - two voices, words of good, have you, with you.
A hand cradled your head, a secure hold.. The musk of Namjoon engulfed your senses, his chin resting at the top of your head, his arm reaching around you, closing you in with the body at your back. Flexing your hand you found your fingers inter linked with slender ones, rings laced in between - Hobi held strong.
You blinked slowly out of your haze and found yourself face to face with the smooth expanse of Namjoon’s chest, your nose in line with his sternum, on instinct you placed your cheek further against it, burrowing yourself against him.
An earthy giggle came from above you, the elation in his voice evident as he took in your actions.
Smiling against him you felt the ghosting of lips against your neck. Squeezing lightly at the fingers between yours you acknowledged your boyfriends, their comfort, their love, their presence.
You could stay here forever.
You felt fingers threading through your hair, careful fingers, a contrast to the demand they had mere minutes ago. Eyes fluttering shut you basked in the aftermath of your lovemaking. If you could bury yourself in their skin, you would. The need to be as close as possible visceral and insistent.
They usually did this, let you be as clingy as possible after sex. There was something about the moment, the afterglow, the headiness, being that close, feeling that loved -- it was incomparable.
‘You okay?’ Namjoon’s question felt far away, but you nodded in response. You felt like you were in a cocoon of warmth. Shifting your legs, you winced visibly at the tenderness in your body and couldn’t help the groan of discomfort that left you. Deciding it wasn’t worth it to move, you slackened further into their hold.
After a minute of stillness, shuffling at your back had you stirring again. Blinking away the bliss of the moment, you felt your hair being ruffled lightly, the hand leaving your head. You heard Hobi say something about running the bath as you opened your eyes again and made to sit up.
Craning your head toward his retreating figure, you swallowed the whine that threatened to leave your chest, his distance already having you feel cold and bereft.
It was illogical, he was just a few feet away, but you needed him next to you, here, touching and holding you, near you.
Namjoon clearing his throat caused your train of thought to come to a screeching halt. You turned to face him and found him sitting up, trying to hold your hand, which you now realized was fisted in the blanket under you. He smirked as you loosened the scrunched material from your hand and placed your palm on his waiting one. Bringing it up to his mouth, he placed a kiss on the inside of your wrist, eyes never leaving yours. Unable to help yourself, emotions threatening to take you under, you flung yourself into his open arms and buried your head against his neck.
'Hey, we're here, we're both here, we promise. We promised to always catch you. You’ll feel better after a hot bath.’ His voice was soft and reassuring, body warmth overwhelming, both exactly what you needed, arms strongly anchored against you, holding you as tightly as you held him. To feel so much, to be okay with being pushed, to trust blindly as you did, it was impossible to recover from it.
'I don't think I can live without both of you.' The confession came from deep within you.
His chest rumbled as he hummed against you, the sound coursing through your body. 'It's a good thing you won't have to.'
Words between you and Joon were never minced, which was something you would be grateful for. The letters forming the words that took up the space between your lips were never easy going conversation, but it consisted of truth and fact and every bit the promises you would both die to uphold.
The option to use a safe word during your lovemaking was a mere formality, you had no need to use it, despite their effort to openly communicate and make sure you knew you could.
Because the ties were never that tight. They were easily maneuverable. In the moment it would feel like exactly what you needed, control being taken away from you. But in a serious setting, if logic prevailed, you were the one with the most right, the most power to stop, the most control. But it was leverage you had no need to use.
The control they had of your body, and your heart and their access to it in their keeping, the addiction you had to keeping them happy was too good of a high, and the after was always worth it; if you loosened your ties, if you took that away from them it would upset the exchange of power.
And they never let you down, not once.
'I'm okay, I'll be okay.' You said more to yourself than to him, as your grip loosened.
He didn’t budge. 'I know. I need to feel you close to me too.'
Footsteps broke you out of your bubble as you listened to Hoseok get closer. 'Water.' Only after he said it did you realize how dry your throat was, you were parched.
Pulling away you held out your hand for the bottle. The water livened your senses up a bit, like fresh air, you could think a bit clearly, and it gave you a second to assess Hobi, you noticed him closely from the top of the bottle. His jaw was set, deep in thought, he was lost to the world for the moment.
Handing the bottle to Joon when you were done, you grabbed a hold of your other boyfriend and pulled him down beside you.
Moving to the edge of the bed, not without difficulty, you threw your legs over as your hand found his hair. He wouldn't meet your eye, so you pushed in your own way. Turning toward him, you curled your other arm around his front, it took a moment, but his arm wrapped around your waist, unconsciously bringing you closer.
He would adapt around you, he would always adapt around you.
The skin contact calming, you nosed at his shoulder. 'Hobi.' His name, a question, a pretty word, a cadence,as you implored your lover to open up. He was your Hobi, you needed to know what was bothering him, even if you couldn't fix it, no one in this relationship had to handle things alone
'Were we too rough?' You paused your petting at his serious tone.
Cocking your head to the side you took a deep breath before replying. 'Do you trust me?'
You would have expected a protest at the question, but he didn't, he knew better, he simply nodded in answer.
'And did I, at any time, use it?' You didn’t wait for him to answer. 'No, I didn't, and even if I had, it would have been something to talk about. We would have gotten through it.'
Looking over at Joon, you motioned for him to step in.
Almost immediately, he moved to close in on Hobi's other side, contributing to the third degree. 'So, why are you self-deprecating?'
Hobi turned to you before answering. 'You've never been… so far gone… after.'
You couldn’t deny that. It took a minute, it was different, but there weren’t any manuals for this type of thing. ‘But I'm okay now, see, maybe a bit clingy, or alot, but besides being absolutely weird at walking tomorrow, I love making love with you both,’ You didn’t want to say it, not when you were all so vulnerable, but his thoughts needed to be shut down. ‘Don't turn it into something we have to second guess.'
'Your demons have a place here Hobi, just not when they try to get between any of us.' You smiled over Hobi’s shoulder gratefully. Joon always had the right words.
'I just don't think I could forgive myself for hurting either of you intentionally.' He looked at our bare feet, unable to meet our eyes.
'It's a lot of responsibility to be the one with the reins in the relationship, but y/n and I trust you. I mean, if we hurt you, at any time, would you want us eating up inside because of it.'
‘Would you not let yourselves get eaten alive inside because of it.’ He glanced between us, but the question was rhetorical, we all knew the answer.
‘I think the point is,’ you intervened, ‘that we'd forgive each other, eventually, there's a lot of understanding here, of course we may love each other more than we should, but we give it our all.'
Placing his chin on Hobi, Namjoon rubbed his boyfriend's back and followed your lead, in reinforcement. ‘And during sex, we have safe words for a reason, outside the bedroom we have the word no, and we have trust enough to voice ourselves in any situation.’
‘My sweet, endearing man,’ you ran your fingers through his hair and hugged yourself to him. ‘This isn't your burden to share alone, we’re all in this relationship.’
‘We're fluent in Hoseok, especially when your brain is forming words you refuse to speak aloud.’ Joon’s palm gripped Hobi’s thigh, squeezing it lightly in reassurance. 'Respect our trust in you, and remember that you trust us to speak, even if it's for you.’
He didn’t answer, just resigned for the moment as he turned over to you and kissed your shoulder, eyes far away in contemplation. It was okay, he needed time. Things like this would take more time, more communication.
‘I think it might be time for that bath now,’ Joon whispered.

🎶- Paris In The Rain - Lauv
Standing on the balcony rail, you stared out at the city below you. It was your favourite spot about this apartment, the bright lights, the noise, it made you feel alive, like you were a part of something bigger
‘What's down there?’
‘Everything.’
You looked up at Hobi as leaned on the rails next to you. He was shirtless, in plain black shorts, a coffee cup in hand. Questions like these weren’t his type, but he surprised you still.
As for the coffee, it was one of the first habits they had all synced up, coffee could wake all of you up, or help put you to sleep now.
‘It's distracting sometimes, all the noise. Wouldn't it be nice to get a change of scenery, peaceful, like a quaint cottage or a mountain range and hills, lush greenery.’
You made a face at Joon’s observation as you took the cup he offered to you. After sex coffee was always a good idea. Extra sugar, extra cream, something of a cherry on the top type of thing. It's good for vacation, but not for life.
‘The plus side is that our careers are here, our livelihoods, you guys know how to navigate yourselves through this city. And I've been having fun trying.’
‘Do you think you'd ever regret moving here? You were pretty scared, at first.’ Joon pulled you against him as he voiced the question, one arm around you, he pulled the shirt further down across you, his shirt as it flailed a bit in the breeze. You rolled your eyes internally, smiling into your mug, but the small action warmed you.
‘I was scared.’ You answered after taking a sip. ‘I still have some trouble. But, I just have to remember you two, remember that I will be coming home to my favorite people, I can't turn away from either of you, not after seeing inside your lives and your hearts, and how much I want to be a part of it.’
In fact, you remember the day you chose to be a part of it.
----------
🎶 - Blinded - Emmit Fenn
‘I'm gonna miss this view.’ Leaning against the window of the boys bedroom in the dorm, you looked out, over at the buildings, the birds, the lives taking place miles around.
‘What do you mean?’ You turned toward the sound of Hoseok’s voice. He was in his and Joon’s shared walk-in closet, putting away his clothes from the day before.
You limited your emotions behind your answer. The fears and anxiety of what was inevitable plaguing you since things had come so far. ‘I have closing contract negotiations next week - my time in Seoul ends in December. They have a flight booked for me the day before Christmas.’
‘Wait, you're leaving.’ Joon stood, from where he sat at the edge of the bed.
‘Don't look at me like that Joonie, we knew about this.’ He was the more logical of the two, if he didn’t see reason, this would be harder, for both of them. ‘I have family in America, friends, a different life.’ You tried your best to be reasonable, remaining calm and comforting. Some things in life were unavoidable. You decided you would be strong here, be rational, there was plenty of time to break down, to fall apart when you got...home.
Shaking your head away from your thoughts, you positioned a fake smile, ready to drive through this conversation, as fast as possible.
‘Can you really walk away y/n.’ You looked up at Hobi as he stepped into view. You expected this, the tight voice, the stoney face, Hobi was driven by emotion, he would take longer to adjust.
You turned away from them, you never could lie well, especially not to them, these men that held your heart. ‘It’s not complicated, Hobi. You both asked to see where it goes, and, well I have to go home.’ You tried not putting much weight behind the ‘have to’ but you would be lying if you hadn’t already searched for a reason to pull time, to extend things, to stay.
‘Move in with us.’
You whirled and stared at them incredulously. Joon for the statement, Hobi for not even remotely looking to amend it.
‘What, Joon, I don't live in Seoul, I-,’
Hobi crept toward you. His features stood out, jaw clenching as he grit out, ‘Tell me you don’t love me.’
He tugged your hand as soon as he was close enough and pulled you forcefully into him. You didn't answer him or look at him, you couldn't, the little resolve you had...no. You knew you had to leave. This wasn't your world. This wasn't your life. They didn't belong to you. You squeezed your eyes to trample down the surge of pain at your latter thought
‘Y/n.’ He caught your chin and made you meet his eyes. ‘Tell me. Tell me you don't love me.’
You felt hands at your waist, ‘Tell us, and we'll walk away from this conversation, right now.’
Trapped, you were trapped. These two beautiful males, they didn’t understand. You bit the inside of your cheek, you didn't have the luxury of crying, you didn't have the right to accept this. This was your life for crying out loud.
‘I-,’
‘And don't lie.’
Your fingers dug into Hobis' bicep at his tone.
‘I don't belong here.’
‘That's not what we asked you to say,’ Joon’s voice was shaky, his usually rich baritone, clouded with an unnameable emotion.
It didn’t need a name, for a long time now, you made it okay to not have a name.
‘Well where would this go, if I stay? What are you going to do? Announce to the world you have a girlfriend that you both share.’ Your voice rose with each word, your argument gaining momentum.
‘How do we do this? How do we go about life?’ You struggled in their hold, needing distance to do this, their hands on you vice-like, unshakeable at your outburst.
‘I can have sex, and I can love and I can let go, but if I stay, I want the whole damn deal. Can you give me that? Can you introduce me to your parents? Can you tell the boys? Can you explain it to your management? Can you give me kids? Can you tell the world about us?’ Your voice broke, ‘’Because I deserve to be number one in someone's life. And to be shown off and, and I can compromise so much, the distance and the tours and the time I have to spend missing you, but I cannot be just by the way. No one should be put through that. No one should be asked that, unless you want to throw money at them and call it a night.’
‘Y/n!’ You flinched visibly at the reprimand, not sure who it came from, as the blood rushed in your ears.
You swallowed harshly and used the little bit of anger you had left, if they could hate you, it would be easier for them. 'What?! It hurts! Of course it hurts. Yes, for fucks sake, I am in love with both of you. I want the long haul. I want forever. But I cannot ask that of you. I can’t ask for you both to only be mine.’
‘Why ask when you will be given freely. When have Hobi and I ever made you believe that you weren’t entitled to any of that.’
‘Stop it! You don't know what you're saying. This isn’t just a phase, this is going to bed and waking up together. This is arguing and making decisions together. This is respecting each other's financial and career choices. This is every day, every moment, it's everything.’
‘Y/n. Hobi is my life partner. He is my soul-mate. I have loved him and I can survive because I know I'll always have him. But I can't live without you. I can't breathe unless I know I have access to you.’
‘We.’ Hobi amended.
‘We can't live without you.’ You could feel Joon’s soft smile at your back, alleviating the tense atmosphere slightly, as he followed his boyfriend’s unspoken order.
‘Baby, look at me, talk to us. Come on, make this work, make us work - we can.’ Hobi’s hands around you were demanding, as he coaxed, holding onto you tightly, as if you might disappear at any moment.
‘I can't. I, if I look at you, I can't be strong, I can't hold off, I won't be able to look away.’
‘Because you know we care. Because you know we want to be yours. Everything else is everything else.’
‘Joon, you’re making this hard.’
‘No, y/n, you are.’
‘You will remember me, that I was here, that we made the best memories,’
‘We can make more.’
‘Hobi, please be reasonable.’
‘’We know it’s a lot, but this, this isn't just for now, this is, for however long you will have us, this is for as long as you love us and we love you, fingers crossed it’s for a really really long time.’ Hobi’s lips found your forehead, as if he couldn’t help himself.
‘Do you think you will regret it someday.’ Even your whisper was forlorn.
‘You?’ He huffed, the sudden movement jerking all of you against each other momentarily. ‘I can't think straight when you're not near me, it's even worse when you're in the same room.’
‘I think a part of me woke up when I met you, and then wanted to stay awake when I realized I didn't want you to leave, that was months ago.’ Joon could make anything sound poetic, you thought.
‘A violent part of me wanted to lock you in a tower and keep you there, for us, all to ourselves. 'There was absolution in Hobi’s voice. 'You're a bit insane, in a good way, and courageous and you see the world differently and you watch spongebob of all things,’
‘Not to mention you drink coffee at night,’ Joon chimed in, ‘We want it all.’
‘I won’t stop. Work. Travels. Experiences. I have wants, needs, a lot to learn and do and I have some of the worst days’
‘All of it, we want all of it.’ Joon hugged your back as his chest rumbled against you at his declaration.
You were a goner, all because you didn't have to be on guard with them. There was always some sort of control involved in existing. From emotions to urges and choices. Sexuality even.
But here they were, asking you to be yourself, pummelling those walls down with sheer will and determination, demanding you be as y/n as possible, even if it made life a little more difficult.
‘Me?’ You looked up at Hobi, willingly meeting his eyes, letting him see how deeply embedded they were within you, searching for hesitation, for any sort of reluctance. ‘Me.’ You repeated to them both, a statement, a chance to back out, before anything else was said.
‘You.’ Joon replied with confidence.
‘You.’ Hobi said, solidifying it.
‘Us?’ You assessed the word as it fell from your lips, a stick against a stone, a spark being allowed to ignite.
‘Us.’ Firm fingers at your waist, as the whisper of a sound came a hairsbreadth from your ear.
You closed your eyes, sending a prayer to the sky, that this was a good choice, that what you wanted couldn't be so bad, that you wouldn’t wake up one day to two males that realized they were too good for you, because they were, you knew that.
You wrapped your hands around Hobi’s back, bringing Joon with you at your back.
You felt the tension ease out of both men, letting out breaths they didn't know they held.
‘Here.’ Hobi’s voice was authoritative, unrelenting.
‘Here.’

🎶 - Paris In The Rain - Lauv
A kiss at your neck broke you out of the memory, the soft spot, known and well used by the man you currently rested against. ‘Where did you go?’
Leaning into his hold, you looked out toward the city, ‘Here. Us.’ You reached out and pulled Hobi into you and Joon, a soft smile gracing your face as you answered. ‘Forever.’
‘I guess, it just makes sense, something about it, just is, I just, love who I am here.’ You meant it. You felt a puzzle piece slot into place when you let yourself be talked into a life with them.
‘We get it. Anywhere with you just feels right.’ Hobi pecked your cheek and ran his fingers through yours.
‘Hobi can be under any moon, any set of stars, anywhere, as long as it's with y/n and Joon.’
You smiled at the third person statement. You considered before asking your next question, holding tighter to Namjoon’s arms around you. ‘Do you think, you’ll ever stop loving me.’
Hobi dropped his head in a giggle, very used to this question.
‘Maybe when the lights go out in the city.’ Joon's sincere answer was so like him; he was always patient. ‘When the music stops playing from the numerous ads across the buildings-.’
‘And when hell freezes over.’ Hobi added as he smiled at you.
His contagious smile formed a mirror on your face. Right then you remembered you would never get tired of moments like these, post sex or no sex, you would never get enough of them. You had yet to regret leaving your old life for a new one. You hadn't stopped falling in love with them daily.
Stars above you, the black night sky engulfing your forms like a blanket, it was a pause to the endless possibilities surrounding your lives together. You weren't sure if it would always be like this, but right now, Namjoon’s heartbeat at your back, Hoseok next to you, nothing else in the world mattered.
‘I am going to have a serious issue with you touching yourself when we aren’t here though.’ A nip at your ear reaffirmed the statement. You just took another sip of your coffee.
‘Y/n.’ Hobi chastised. Oh no, you were about to be double-teamed.
You kept the mug at your lips, making your eyes wide over the mug. You pointed to it, busy drinking coffee, not talking about this.
‘Y/n.’ They exclaimed consecutively, pulling out of Joon’s hold and you rushed into the lounge, but not before one of them grabbed a hold of your shirt. You squealed in surprise.
Thinking fast, placing the mug on the nearest surface, you pulled the shirt over your head and ran, buck naked away from them.
‘You are so done when we get a hold of you!’ Joon shouted.
‘You’ll have to get a hold of me first.’
Laughter could be heard from your apartment, laughter and squeals of a girl that laid it all on the line, for a new life, for two smart, talented men that she had found halfway across the world; laughter that carried out the balcony to the city below, laughter of a relationship finding its way in Seoul.

GQ Korea Magazine June 2021 issue featuring JAY B: in transition
To prove himself, JAY B is constantly changing. Because he has so much to show.
Translated by defdaily
Your greeting from the video earlier was new. You said “This is GOT7’s JAY B and H1GHR MUSIC’s JAY B.” After GOT7 parted ways with JYP Entertainment, you told fans that you were a freelancer and I guess you’ve found your spot.
Yes. It has not been announced officially yet but I’m H1GHR MUSIC’s JAY B. I told fans I was a freelancer as a joke. I like communicating with fans as if we’re friends. But I was looking for a company at that time too.
How did you make your decision?
Of course I thought about it a lot. I talked with various companies, but when considering the freedom and synergy, I felt like H1GHR MUSIC fit me well. That seemed like the best decision.
What kind of synergy and effect are you looking forward to?
I don’t think “I’m definitely hip-hop!” just because I joined a hip-hop label. I think that through the label I can show R&B, dance and pop genres too. I want to attempt different things without any boundaries.
What did you talk about with H1GHR MUSIC’s CEO Jay Park?
From my point of view, it’s a new challenge so I was a little anxious. But Jay Bum hyung’s thoughts were similar to mine and said I could do music comfortably and didn’t wish for any certain colour, because if you keep focusing on one thing, you’ll slowly be locked in it, and said it’s good to try out different things. That’s what he told me.
Will this period of time divide JAY B of the past and future?
Of course it will. If previously it was a situation where I mainly received benefits from the company, now that I have the autonomy, I feel that I should do things myself and I grew a deeper sense of responsibility in that way. I think there’s a need to be more proactive. And I plan on prudently moving forward one step at a time with an appropriate amount of nervousness. Because this is the process of starting from the beginning, I am very careful about every decision.
What factors influenced your decision the most?
Feeling/intuition. I have a feeling of whether I think I should do something or not.
It feels like you have a pretty good sense of the direction you want to move forward in.
I asked Jay Bum hyung why he recruited me and he said that skills were of course a factor but that I seemed like I would work hard consistently. It’s a given to be working hard on your own things but the most important thing is consistency. I've been doing that for a long time, and I'll continue to do what I've been doing.
Do you have any values that you’ve held on for a long time?
I’ve always thought that it’s important to never forget the things that I’ve done and have been doing. I debuted as GOT7. I cannot just suddenly say “I’m not an idol,” and I do not want to disappoint the fans. I’m very thankful. While promoting as part of GOT7, I never forgot the fact that I started as a b-boy at first and that I’m a person who likes hip-hop.
People’s expectations are high because of GOT7’s achievements. On one hand, there must be people viewing you thinking ‘let's see how well it could go.’
I am mindful of that. But it’s just GOT7 JB that was that big, JAY B as an individual isn’t that great. To be honest, sometimes I think that I’m nothing. If you ask people my age which idols they know, even if many people know about GOT7, they might not know me very well. It’s important to be acknowledged for my music but I feel like I have to get my name out there first. There is someone called GOT7’s JAY B, H1GHR MUSIC’s JAY B. I feel like this is just the beginning for me.
It sounds like you are at a point where you feel the need to prove yourself. Do you not worry that fans might not be accepting if you do what you like and want to do?
Rather than being worried, I see it as something that could happen. For example, I could use profanity or harsh expressions if I feel that they’re needed for better musical completion. I can’t help it if some fans who used to like me as an idol hear that and turn their backs. I also don’t want to give up or lose my own standards because of such reactions.
I see you're very determined to make creations of your own. I heard that you're going to release a new song soon. How is it?
The title is Switch It Up. Should I say it’s close to Hip-Hop Dance? It’s a different style from what I have been making consistently under the name Def. You could say it is a little similar to the solo songs I’ve included in GOT7 albums before. I focused on the purpose of informing the public and the music scene that “I think I will do this sort of music in the future." I’m also sending a message to fans saying that I’ll be starting to promote actively again so look forward to it.
I'm curious. Is there any image that came to mind while working on it?
A sexy image. If I use Def. to freely express my personal stories in any genre, I made a distinction that JAY B does cool and sexy music. Regardless, they are both me, but JAY B is more like a fictional character who can show various sides of me.
What do you think are your strengths as an artist?
There is no such thing. I never thought that an artist should be a certain type of way. I think an artist is one who lives the same life as others, but feels differently, and knows how to express that well. As a matter of fact, anyone can do that. Even everyday office workers, when their stress piles and piles and they scribble down their emotions then toss the paper out, I think that can be a way of art too.
I like that. In any form, what do you want to talk about the most now?
That’s what I’m contemplating a lot right now. I think I’ve been pouring out too much. When writing songs, making the melody or arranging the music isn’t that hard but I don’t know what to write about. The same goes for coming up with titles too. No matter how hard I try to come up with an idea, I can’t think of one. I just think, “ I guess it'll just come out gradually.”
Not as JAY B but as Lim Jaebeom, what have you been thinking about or trying to do?
I try to think positively.
Ah not long ago, we saw you posted on your Instagram “Let’s try to think positively.”
I had quite a lot of worries and a negative mindset. A lot of people may live with unnecessary worries but I’m a little worse. I guess it’s my nature. So I try my best to relax my heart/mind and say “it’s good,” “everything will be okay.”
In introspection, what is something that you are most satisfied with?
That’s hard. No matter how hard I think about it, I feel like there's nothing I like about myself at the moment.
Why? Did something change?
No, it’s not that. Even with one thing, one day you could like it and another day you could dislike it. It’s natural to change your mind. So when I speak, I often use the terms “always” and “at the moment.” Anyways, it’s not that I think that my current self is completely bad, but I’m not satisfied to the point where I would go “wow.”
Then, among the various images that you embody, which do you feel is the piece of clothing that fits perfectly?
I think naturally, the clothing of the name Lim Jaebeom is the most natural and comfortable. Because I’ve got a good hold of the side that is most like me, there can exist Def., JAY B of GOT7 and JAY B of H1GHR MUSIC. Oh, I could explain it like this. If Lim Jaebeom is the earth, just as there exists oceans, mountains, and cities within it, there are various sides of myself that are making up my life.
What will happen to GOT7 in the future?
We probably will not be able to promote as actively as before, but the members and I are trying our best to do anything. I often look up and watch videos of when we were promoting and I miss the GOT7 from those days. The overflowing passion and energy as well. Looking back, it was really fun. It's similar to the feeling of reminiscing about school days.
What did you gain personally from the past 7 years promoting as GOT7?
Should I say, I think I’ve gained expertise? People around me say I’ve become much more relaxed now. But I still get nervous. I was nervous even before today’s shoot. But in turn, I’ve gained ways to overcome the nerves. I guess that comes to show that I’ve become experienced
What kind of person does Lim Jaebeom want to be?
I wish I could be endlessly kind and do only good things, but in reality, that’s impossible. As you live you could unintentionally make mistakes and cause disappointment. Nevertheless, I definitely do not want to become a shrewd person, I despise being scheming and fooling people. I don’t want to be that kind of person and neither do I want to be on the receiving end. But it’s still a bit of a mystery if it’s okay to say "I'm going to be this kind of person." Because as I mentioned before, my current feelings and thoughts change frequently just as trends do.
I guess those words right there can change too.
That’s right. That's why I'm cautious about doing interviews. If I talk about something, there will be articles pouring out that say JAY B said this and JAY B said that. Although we’re doing an interview today like this, if I was asked the same question tomorrow, I could have a different response.
How should we wrap up this interview for you to sleep soundly?
This was the story of Lim Jaebeom on May 4th, 2021. I think this will be okay.
