Where is the "by vibe" option
I have a question
#generally it's by genre and by author last name#but that was years ago now i own too many books for that sort of organization#oh actually a lot of it is by size so i can put the books on their sides and fit more on a single shelf#but within that i'll try and keep the genre consistent#(thank u designers it automatically tends to be consistent)#i have enough books by single authors that I have some shelves just for one author#with a few similar vibe books thrown in the extra spaces#colour is a horrible option though I hate that so much#sure it's gorgeous but god at what cost#the CHAOS#i say this as someone who associates books with exactly the colour of their cover#it's not as though i'm just one to forget and so i wouldn't be able to find something#i sort by vibes for god's sake i know where to look for things even without a logical system#but colour i cannot abide#books#update: i voted and am horrified at the number of people who don't organize their books#do you at least keep authors adn series together#how do you sleep at night

Every Record I Own - Day 773: Lungfish The Unanimous Hour
My first exposure to The Unanimous Hour was on a European tour back in 2005. Our booking agent and I got to talking about music during some downtime in London and by the end of the conversation he had shoved CD copies of King Crimson's Red and Lungfish's The Unanimous Hour into my hands, incredulous that I hadn't heard either. Red made enough sense to me that I picked up the LP upon returning to the States. But The Unanimous Hour didn't win me over, and a decade would pass before I heard it again.
Once again I was in Europe. We had a day off to pull a long drive from Poland to Lithuania. It was late autumn and the sun set early, so most of the drive was in the dark. By this point I was getting pretty heavily into Lungfish but there were still a few albums I hadn't spent time with. I remember downloading The Unanimous Hour onto my phone and listening to it on that long, dark drive on my headphones. As I mentioned earlier, I've found that Lungfish doesn't translate well as driving music, and once again, the album passed without making much of an impression on me.
Still, I couldn't pass on a cheap vinyl copy The Unanimous Hour when I found it in the wild a few months later. Honestly, it's been the least played LP of theirs in my collection, and I wasn't entirely sure what I'd have to say about it when it came into the Tumblr queue. But I've been listening to The Unanimous Hour a lot over the last few days and I've finally had my magic-eye moment with it.
Even at the outset of all these Lungfish posts, I tended to lump The Unanimous Hour in with the last era of the band. The first era was when Lungfish felt like the more cryptic twin to Fugazi. The second era---from Sound In Time through the end of the '90s---was when they found their footing in repetition and metaphysical lyrics and began to deconstruct their approach to songwriting. The final era, to my ears, found the band zeroing in on a very rudimentary, foundational approach to punk. Higgs becomes both more menacing and more prophetic. The songs generally become a little more muscular, though in contrast to their earlier work, the quieter and more reserved songs tend to become the highlights.
I love the entire Lungfish catalog, but my favorite records are in that second era, and The Unanimous Hour, with it's clamorous and sneering album opener "Space Orgy," felt like the transition away from the more meditative and spatial records in their catalog. I'm not sure why I initially felt the album was a move away from their past work. The next two songs tap into familiar territories: "Web of Mirrors" is an instrumental vignetter not unlike some of my favorite tracks off Artificial Horizon and "Searchlight" is an authoritative exercise in muscular minor key minimalism similar to the general vibe of Sound In Time. And things start to get a lot weirder from there.
"Vulgar Theories" is primitive even by Lungfish standards---just one fuzzy chord banged out in quarter notes for the verses while Higgs does his usual Higgs-isms. The chorus is the same chord, the same timing, the same tempo, just a little louder and with one extra chord thrown in every fourth measure. Repeat for four minutes. But somewhere around the third or fourth cycle of the loud-louder verse/chorus structure, the band throws in a third chord, and it feels like the most triumphant thing ever. A Lungfish song with an apex? Who would've thought?
The album continues to wield some of Lungfish's weirdest and wildest material---the sublime lullaby-like "God's Will," the one-chord drone and octave-shifted vocals of "Metatron," the noise-swaddled instrumental "Return to the Caves," the transcendent tape manipulation of "Hallucinatorium"---all of it distinctly Lungfish, while also demonstrating a continuing exploration of possibility.
In many ways, I feel a little embarrassed that it's taken me 18 years to decipher the album's charms. After all, it's not as if Lungfish's music is complicated or complex. Quite the opposite. It's rudimentary to the point of being a bit puzzling. Like... that's it? That's all you've got? But once you realize that the individual songs have no grand trajectory and instead seem to be obsessive studies of a single simple principle, a magic begins to emerge from the material.
Maybe that's why Pitchfork was generally unkind to Lungfish, except when it came to reviewing their reissues. You can't expect a critic to grant a Lungfish album a cursory listen and walk away from it with a full understanding of its power. It takes time to understand the songs, even if it sounds like very little time was spent putting the songs together. In this case, it took me nearly 18 years to truly appreciate to appreciate their eighth album, but it was well worth the wait.

Hi, I just saw your blog and I have to ask; do you have any recommendations for people who really, really enjoyed the Murderbot Diaries? Im kinda obsessed with it
Hi @extra-plus-ordinary ! I am so flattered to be asked this because I LOVE giving recommendations.
The first thing I’ll say is, there is a very active Murderbot discord server and if you aren’t in it send me a dm and I’ll get you a link! The lovely folks there can probably give you lots more recommendations than me. I’ll admit I haven’t been on there much lately because life be like that sometimes, but you can bet I’ll be active there plenty when the next Murderbot book comes out in a few months! The folks there also found me links to a couple Murderbot short stories that you should absolutely check out if you haven’t yet.
I have to admit, my first thought on getting this ask is... there isn’t anything else quite like Murderbot! Sometimes all you want is more Murderbot and we don’t have any (yet). The first time I finished the series I started over again at the beginning because all I wanted was More Murderbot Please. It took me awhile to be in the mood for anything else. I absolutely recommend indulging that mood because personally, when all I want is Just This Book, I end up disliking anything else I try to read, even when I normally would like it. But! If you are in the mood to try something a bit different with perhaps some overlapping appeal, let me offer a few suggestions:
The Queens Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner
I have to mention this first because it’s fans of THIS series that got me to read Murderbot. Also I’ve been obsessed with these books since I was a teen. Similarities between the series include:
Sarcastic first person narration—this is mostly just in the first book of the series, The Thief. If you, like me, fell in love with Murderbot because of its voice, give this book a try. Gen is a different narrator in many ways, but I find the appeal similar. There are also some similar character dynamics and interactions with a group gradually getting to know a character they previously underestimated, and forming strong friendships over the course of the series.
However, I will note that The Thief is notably different from the rest of the series in tone and pacing, and some people find it boring. That was not my experience, but many recommend starting the series with the second book.
The second book has a character that I feel is similar to Murderbot on many levels, but I don’t want to say much more about it because SPOILERS. Actually I don’t want to say any more about the series at all because it’s really best to just go in and experience it for yourself. Take my word for it—many people love both series, there is lots of crossover appeal.
The Mandalorian tv series
Ok I feel kinda dumb mentioning this because I feel like everyone’s probably heard of this show by now and has already decided whether they’re gonna watch it. I mean, it’s STAR WARS. So I’ll be brief here, but I really feel like Mando and Murderbot have a LOT in common and would get along really well, and people drawn to one of these characters might also like the other. Murderbot wishes he had as good an excuse as Mando for keeping a helmet on at all times. They’re both similarly good at their jobs (which involve fighting), and end up coming to care for characters weaker and less experienced than themselves. They then put themselves on the line to protect their new Found Family, while steadfastly refusing to admit that they have any feelings whatsoever. Also, so far? No romantic pairings. Murderbot would approve. There are more comparisons I could make but I’ll stop....So yeah, if for some reason you haven’t given The Mandalorian a try.... do it.
Digger by Ursula Vernon
Ok, so the cool thing about this recommendation (aside from the fact that it’s a super amazing story, which I’ll talk more about in a bit) is you can read the WHOLE THING. FOR FREE. RIGHT NOW. Don’t have to put it on hold at the library, don’t have to order it and wait for it to come in the mail, don’t have to track it down in a used bookstore. ITS ALL FREE: http://diggercomic.com/blog/2007/02/01/wombat1-gnorf/
That link should take you to the first page of the comic.
The first comparison I’ll make here is the VOICE. Digger has a first person funny/sarcastic voice that reminds me a LOT a of Murderbot. Different, of course, but..., I think Murderbot would really like Digger. She would be a good client. Practical, tries to stay safe and make good decisions, and she would 100% get Murderbot’s sense of humor. She gets thrown into a crazy magical world and takes it all in stride, making plenty of friends she’s ready to defend with her life.
Yeah, Murderbot would like Digger.
I’d go on, but seriously—did you forget I just said THE WHOLE THING IS FREE TO READ ONLINE so just.... go start reading it and get a taste for it yourself.
http://diggercomic.com/blog/2007/02/01/wombat1-gnorf/
The Vorkosigan Saga
This is a big one that will keep you occupied for awhile! I don’t remember how many books are in the series... 20 maybe? I don’t even know. This is the series I re read when I was coming off my Murderbot high a few months back, because in some ways it has a similar vibe.
Anyway, this is another Space Drama that explores some interesting potential economics, politics, and conflicts of a future of planets linked by wormholes. Some of the planets have a more Corporation Rim feel, others are like Preservation, with many others thrown in the mix. The main character, Miles Vorkosigan... he would love Murderbot. He’d recruit it on the spot—a competent person who shows initiative? Wonderful! On the other hand, Murderbot would HATE Miles.... no sense of self preservation, barreling into problems with no clear plan of how to get out... he would drive Murderbot absolutely crazy.
Personally, I started reading the series with The Warriors Apprentice, and that’s where I recommend starting. However technically Shards of Honor, which tells the story of Miles’ parents and how they met, is the first book chronologically.
The Winter Prince by Elizabeth Wein
This is a very short novel (so if the Murderbot novella length worked for you, give this a try). It’s a gripping take on Arthurian Legend told from the point of view of Medraut (Mordred). Medraut reminds me of Murderbot in many ways—he feels unworthy of love because of what he is, wrestling with a violent past and trying to be better, struggling to know what to do when he is loved by people who he doesn’t think should love him. Also, like All Systems Red, his narrative is addressed to a specific person, which affects how the story is read.
So those are just a few books/series I recommend for Murderbot fans! And everyone, really, because these are all excellent because my taste is impeccable ;-).
I hope there is something here to tide you over til the next Murderbot book comes out @extra-plus-ordinary 😁

Top 15 Features That Sell Homes For More Money
Top 15 Features That Sell Homes For More Money
As a homeowner, you obviously want to sell your home for the best price you can.
While most people opt not to bother with a lot of upgrading in their house, some are not afraid to risk their money right before selling their property.
In most cases this turns out to be the right call and the homeowners who add various features to their homes fetch a better price for the property.
There are also some cases when the investment turns out to be not so profitable! These are home owners who go out and do things – without seeking professional advice – liking adding a pool to their home – not knowing which things can increase or decrease the value of their home.
If you’ve been thinking about selling your house and want to do some upgrading and remodeling that will get you a zero or two more on the total but don’t know where to start and where to stop, keep reading.
We will cover some of the most sought-after features by buyers that can not only help you sell your property for more money and also more quickly.
Energy Efficiency
Smart, energy-efficient choices impress buyers not only because of their design but also because they will lower their future utility bills, which is why they are increasingly more willing to pay a few extra bucks for these future benefits.
As the world is turning to a more energy-efficient, environmentally-friendly living, properties containing such features are becoming increasingly popular among new home buyers.
For instance, energy-efficient windows lower heating and cooling costs by 12%, while Energy Star-rated appliances additionally reduce hundreds of dollars on utility bills.
The price you’ll be able to extract from adding these energy-efficient elements will keep increasing as you add more of them, so feel free to upgrade your property as your budget allows.
Other energy-efficient elements you can add are:
Solar panels.
Energy-efficient light bulbs.
Energy star rated appliances, which we will talk about below.
Landscaping
Who doesn’t love a flowery garden spanning over a freshly cut grass?
Your yard and garden are the first things buyers will see when they enter the property, and as such, you should prepare them to make a lasting first impression.
Some of the most common tips include:
Planting tropical plants.
Applying a layer of mulch to get that contrast.
Shape and trim bushes and trees.
And of course, plant colorful flowers to give your house that homey vibe and make your garden more impactful.
One useful pro tip is to take your time with landscaping as it may take up to several months for the effects to be noticeable.
Leave at least a month of time to allow everything to grow, bloom and look natural instead of looking like you’ve just thrown a bunch of things in an effort to make everything look better.
Updated Exterior
A splash of fresh paint on the front of your house is not only an eye-catching feature, but it’s also one that can bring you a higher asking price.
It shows potential buyers that you’ve taken care of the property both inside and out which will give them the confidence to pay a higher price for a well-kept house.
Exterior lights are also important for home buyers. Besides making the property more appealing, they also add a to the safety of it as they illuminate the space in front of the house.
Appropriate Lighting
Good lighting can get you far, and I don’t just mean the actual ceiling lights. You should thinkg about:
Lamps
Table lamps
Chandeliers
Wall sconces
Windows
They can all give a completely different dimension to your property and make it look more luxurious, stylish, modern or extravagant.
You may consider placing energy-efficient light bulbs and make the home even more desirable for those looking for more ways to save on utility bills.
Another thing to consider, as well, is natural lighting.
Make sure that you always allow natural light to come in in every room and that your curtains and blinds aren’t preventing natural light from entering.
This is something that is on the top of the list for many home buyers.
New Windows
New windows definitely pay off, especially if the property is on high grounds.
It will create that “wow” effect the second someone enters the space and provide natural light that will illuminate the space and make it look more welcoming and comfortable.
Plus, if you opt for energy star rated windows, they can also reduce future utility bills for homeowners, especially their heating and cooling bills.
Energy-efficient windows are specially designed to block the outside air from entering and disrupting the inside temperature.
This means that you won’t have to turn on your air conditioner to the maximum to achieve the ideal indoor temperature during cold winter or hot summer days.
Refreshed Flooring
One of the first thing home buyers look at when they enter a house is the flooring.
Looking at old, torn carpets is really dispiriting and can potentially be a deal-breaker for many.
To avoid buyers running away from your house – just one minute after entering – because of horrible flooring, you can try and clean your carpets through a cleaning company or on your own.
However, if the carpet looks unfixable, it would be a better idea to buy a new one and not risk losing potential buyers because of it.
The case is similar with hardwood floors too. If you have any type of hardwood floors that have been damaged over time, you can buy water-based products for just a few hundred dollars to renew them and give them their old shine back.
Decor
Now, the saying “it’s all in the details” isn’t for naught.
The décor and small details are what gives the space its soul and make every room stand out.
Here’s some tips and tricks to help with the soul of the home:
You can add different colored pillows that match the curtains for a chic look.
Combine different vases and flowers to bring freshness into your rooms.
Bring in different art work and hang it around the home. Your staging team will most likely do this for you, if you’re using one.
Basement Remodeling (If Applicable)
The basement in your house can be turned into an additional living space or an entertainment center that will add thousands of dollars to your home’s final price.
Obviously if you don’t have a basement and live in a Townhouse or Condo without one, this doesn’t apply to you.
One of the biggest benefits of a basement is that you have (in most cases) a huge space you can adapt as you want.
You can make a wine bar here, build your own dance floor and entertainment center, add a big screen and turn it into a theatre room, or buy a few exercising machines and turn it into your own private gym.
Or if the space is big enough and allows it, you can even turn it into a separate living space with a full bedroom, bathroom, and a small kitchen.
Kitchen Remodeling
Now, kitchen remodeling does require detailed planning, space adjustments, and a good deal of money, but there is no need for you to go that far for a house you intend to sell.
All the kitchen needs is a small cosmetic upgrade:
Assess the room and see if yours needs one as well.
If there is some wall paint that has peeled off, apply a fresh coat of paint.
If the wooded countertops have lost their shine rinse them and wipe them down with club soda to make them shine again.
Or if the vinyl floors look old and have faded, cover them with floor leveler so the pattern doesn’t bleed through.
There are so many DIY cleaning techniques you can look for online that will make your kitchen sparkling clean and make it look brand new by only using ingredients you already have at home.
Bathroom Remodeling
Again, while bathrooms are known to be one of the most expensive rooms to equip and model, you can do a few minor changes to it and get maximum cost efficiency for them.
Remove the old, dated wall covers and apply a fresh coat of paint to make it look more up-to-date and newer.
Replace the old shower doors with new ones or remove them completely to add the illusion of space. Many people won’t even look beyond the shower doors.
Some remodeling will cost you more at times, but there is no need to panic – this is about putting in $1 just now to get more than $1 back when you sell.
Other Rooms
Properties that have specialty rooms like:
A library
Home office
Theater room
Sell for quite a bit higher than those who don’t have them.
Home offices are especially popular nowadays as more and more people have flexible work positions that allow them to work from home.
The good news is: if you don’t already have these, you can actually create them yourself!
Or, instead of having a huge dining room or kitchen that are space inefficient, why not turn part of it into a walk-in pantry or a storage room for your extra pans, appliances, and tools?
It will not only improve the overall layout of the room but will also add dollars to the total price of the property and help it sell faster.
You can also turn the extra bedroom into a theater room with an entertainment center where buyers would be able to sit with their friends and relax on a Sunday evening.
Another convenience you can add is a secluded, private library area or corner. This will definitely win the hearts of book lovers and make the property even more versatile for potential buyers.
Other Modern Features
When potential home buyers see a few modern appliances and features, they know they won’t have a lot of investment to make towards getting the house up-to-date.
You don’t have to include the latest and most expensive features to make the property a modern one.
Sometimes, small things do the trick.
Home systems, for instance. There are so many smart home gadgets you can install and impress potential buyers when you say “lights on” and they do turn on!
You can also automate your house as much as you can through:
Installing remote controlled doors.
Light sensors.
An intercom.
Apps on your phone that connect with your home systems.
Solar panels are another modern feature that has increased in popularity recently.
It’s another way to add to the energy efficiency of the house you’re selling and lure in even more potential buyers willing to pay extra for this useful feature.
All these modern features can cost quite a bit to buy, but they all add up to the overall value of the house.
Some more than others, but the difference in numbers will definitely show in the end.
Patio
A well-designed patio is the number one most-desired outside feature for buyers.
When potential buyers see a nice, furnished outside patio, they immediately imagine themselves spending their time there with family and friends.
This means that they begin to see themselves living here without even entering the home itself, which will later help you get a better price for the perfect home they’ve envisioned.
You can go for anything – a low, ground-level patio with wood furniture or a concrete patio with high-end elements, the options are out there for you to choose from.
Other Outdoor Elements
There are are some high ticket items that it can be tempting to add or add to:
Sports courts.
A pool.
Fountains.
However, you should be aware that it’s very hard to get a positive return on investment for these things listed above.
Other, less expensive ways to improve the outdoor areas are:
Small fountains.
Flowerpots.
Scatter leaves to add color.
The outdoor area is actually the ideal place to focus on when preparing your house for sale since it offers the best opportunities to add value to the property without investing a lot of money.
Freshly Painted Walls
In the end, a fresh coat of paint is the most affordable thing you can do as an update to every room to make it look more alluring and fresher.
A simple paint job was actually one of the things that helped so many properties sell for more.
In fact, Zillow has done research on over 32,000 sold properties to see which colors of rooms sell best and they found that houses with light shades of blue, pale blue or gray, and powder blue sold for around $5,500 more than other colors.
This goes to show that a simple paint job is not something you should overlook when you’re preparing your house for sale.
In Summary – Features To Sell Your Home For More Money
One thing all these features have in common is that they all add value to the house and have the potential to change the buyer’s perspective of the house you’re selling.
But before you get carried away with some of these adjustments, make sure that your property has all the basic features and that they are all functioning.
Having a landscaped yard with a beautiful outdoor patio is worth nothing if the house has mold on the inside or huge holes in the walls.
Meaning, take care of the basic things essential for selling a property first, then go over to features that will help you sell it higher.
The positive thing about all of these upgrades is that they won’t cost you a fortune if you do them one at a time, so you can start now and get your home ready for sale at a price that will return all the money you’ve invested in it until then, in some cases double or triple of it.

How To Land A High Paying Sales Job Without Writing A Resume [Stop Getting Ignored By Recruiters]
Finding a sales job like any other job can be a stressful and frustrating journey. With hundreds of resumes reaching the tables of recruiters, it has becoming more and more difficult to stand out as a sales professional.
And the good news is that you can do something about it.
Today, I`m gonna share with you what has worked for me and thousands of others closers when looking for a high paying sales position. These strategies when applied have resulted in multiple six figure a year contracts.
Getting hired and paid well doesn`t need to be either frustrating, complicated or require a resume, you just need to act differently and know what you`re doing.
Video is your golden ticket, it lands more jobs than anything else. Click To Tweet
How To Get Hired Without A Resume
As you know, recruiters have to deal with hundreds, even thousands of CV`s when considering people to fill in the positions their company is looking for. Your first job is to make the recruiters` job easier.
That`s right!
Make their job easier by standing out and doing something different. Put yourself in their shoes and show them that you`ve got something special.
The Video Resume
The only way you`re going to separate yourself from the other candidates is through video. Shoot a good quality video, doesn`t need to be fancy.
If you have the name of the hiring manager, you can even make a personalized video, which is always more powerful and send it by email or any other medium.
Record a video where you explain what you do, how your skills could match the position and what value you can bring to the company.
It`s a phenomenal way to get people to know you because you`ve shown up on camera, they can see and hear you.
How does the recruiter know you`re a good communicator looking at a piece of paper? The video will help you stand out, build trust and project a confident vibe.
Let`s keep it real, almost nobody does this!
The “Modern Resume”
Personally, I always like to go the extra mile.
What I do is sort of formal letter with my video embedded in it and all the relevant links, including, website, LinkedIn profile and personality test.
I also leave a booking link in case the recruiter or the business owner wants to book a call with me to discuss how we might be a fit. It just makes the process a lot easier for them and it`s a way to position myself as the expert.
You can do this with an app called Canva, they have a sample for every taste. It`s very easy!
This is not mandatory but if you really want to step up your game and increase your chances of getting hired, I suggest you give it a try.
Where To Find High Paying Sales Jobs
Look, they`re everywhere!
If you look in the right places, you won`t have any difficulties landing a high paying sales job.
Make sure when you go after these positions or people that might give you a position, to not act desperately and spam them. Give value and use your common sense to connect with people.
Approach every job search with a value-driven perspective. Click To Tweet
Facebook Groups
It has never been my favorite way to engage with people, that`s the truth. But it can be very effective done right.
Pick a good sized group, within your industry and start engaging with people`s posts. Commenting is the best.
You can also create posts in a value-driven way to start the engagement running within the group. Be aware that the owner can ban you at any time if your behavior is misleading.
Some groups might not have as much engagement as you`d like. No worries, keep searching until you find one that other people actually show up aside from the owner.
Twitter
Twitter is a great way to find influencers, entrepreneurs and connect with those that can find your services valuable.
I like Twitter because it`s so simple to play with!
They have this tool called Advanced search, which allows you to refine your search and get more precise results.
What I like about this one is that it lets you search people, hashtags or companies based on a specific location.
This is very powerful if you`re looking for a position within your area.
Linkedin
By far my preferred method to engage with employers and influencers.
Linkedin is an extremely powerful social platform to attract lucrative contracts, in fact, all my contracts up to this point came from Linkedin.
There are so many ways to get visibility here!
The ones I recommend are liking and commenting on people`s posts (the double engagement is beneficial to the post in relation to how the algorithm works) and obviously searching on the jobs section.
Linkedin also allows you to create job alerts sent to your inbox every time a similar position to the one you’re looking for is available on the platform.
Indeed
There are a lot of examples I could give you of job posting sites but in my opinion, this is one of the best sources to find great contracts.
You`ll notice that companies post the same job in different sites and again, this is just the one I found to be the easiest to work with.
On Indeed, you get a ton of information about the company and what they`re looking for.
I also found that many job opportunities here have the email of the recruiter. Now, it`s easier to send a personalized video, since you know his or her name.
Conferences
Connecting with people online is good but meeting them in person is a whole another story.
When someone goes to a conference or industry trade show, they`re usually in the same spot for a few days. This is your chance to meet valuable connections and potential employers.
Conferences about entrepreneurship are the best, of course.
The big advantage of face to face meetings, as you know, is that it`s easier to influence the other person since all your senses are involved.
Become an expert in your industry and watch how easy it is to get hired. Click To Tweet
Workshops
A great way to connect with influencers, coaches, consultants or speakers. Workshops have a double benefit.
You pay to go there and learn, and you also get a chance to meet influential personalities that can help you land a solid sales position.
Many of these experts have high ticket packages and are willing to pay someone to close those sales in exchange for a commission.
These are usually small groups and tend to be multi-day events as well.
(NOTE: How To Never Have To Beg For A Sales Job And Make Millions From Your Phone Without Prospecting Or Cold Calling)
Position Yourself As The Go To Salesperson
Want to never have to look for a sales position ever again?
Then you have to be seen as the expert. People have to know you for your expertise and that means putting yourself out there and start building a personal brand around your expertise.
You have a personal brand whether you like it or not, it`s your reputation, what people think of you when they hear your name.
The point is that people need to know you for something you do very well.
Nobody likes to hire average sales professionals and if you can have others say great things about you, then it`s easier to get your foot in the door.
Pick An Industry
Don`t be just like every other salesperson out there… “oh, I can sell anything!”
Wrong.
You might have the skills to sell anything but that`s not the way you should position yourself if you want to get paid as an expert in sales.
Choose an industry you`re comfortable selling in, maybe it`s real estate, medical or digital marketing.
It`s better to focus on one industry and become extremely knowledgeable at it than selling for 20 different industries and mastering no one.
Jumping from one industry to the other doesn`t help you either, it takes time and effort every time you need to learn about a new space or a new product.
Nail Your Linkedin Profile
We`ve talked about Linkedin and how good it is for sales professionals.
It really is! But most important than being there is being with the right profile.
I`ve done an in-depth guide on how to use Linkedin to build your brand, get business or get hired.
In that guide, I talked about the importance of having a consistent theme in your profile, not having blank spaces and making sure that you collect recommendations along the way.
Another important aspect is letting recruiters know you`re open and filling out your career interests.
It`s just another way for you to show up every time a recruiter does a search with those keywords and is looking to fill a sales position.
Create Specific Content
Again, you don`t have to do this but if you`re serious about taking your career to next level and never have to worry about looking for a job, then you should do it.
Experience is thrown out the window, once you start pumping out content related to the specific problems you solve for companies.
Employers will not even question your expertise. What expertise, you might be thinking?
Sales!
It doesn`t have to be about that all the time but it needs to be a fundamental piece in your content strategy.
If you`re a sales professional, it doesn`t make sense to talk about branding, unless you want to attract a position in that industry.
If you`re not using Linkedin, you`re not serious about getting hired as a sales professional. Click To Tweet
Throw The Sales Resume Out The Window
I understand, some companies, especially big ones, are required to have you send a resume.
I`ve had that happened.
What I`m saying is don`t rely on a useless piece of paper to sell anyone your values and your expertise.
How does the hiring manager know your skills are good, just by looking at your experience or education, what does that matter?
Just because you did good in one job doesn`t mean you`re gonna be a rockstar on the other. Save whoever is hiring time by acting differently, standing out in the noise and being someone of value.

Using DIY & Wall Art To Add a Personal Touch to a Nursery
Decorating a nursery can be equal parts exciting and stressful, but you should also take this opportunity to let your creative side run free. Whilst there are a lot of fantastic products available to adorn your baby’s nursery with, sometimes it’s better to make something from the heart. Buying most of the décor for your baby’s nursery is not a problem, however, if the interior is comprised entirely of store-bought items it can sometimes lack a warm and homely touch. Therefore, it’s always worth trying your hand at a few beautiful yet simple DIY decoration pieces, because you never know, you may just produce something you cherish for many years down the line, and not just when your baby is well…a baby! Homemade items are also sentimental declarations of love towards your little one. Of course, if you are the one who is currently expecting, get a helping hand for the more stressful or physically demanding tasks from those around you, after all, the more the merrier, and the more personal the nursery decor will be. DIY décor clearly shows that it is not necessary to have to splash a lot of cash to produce something beautiful and endearing, so what are you waiting for? Dig in!
Family, Friends and Frames
DIY doesn’t need to only be about parent and child, be sure to involve other people in the baby’s life whom also feel much love for it! Use baby shower and celebration cards from friends and family and turn them into décor pieces – what’s more, you can get them involved in the making of the decorations too! It’s a great way to add vibrancy and charm to the nursery without doing too much of the work yourself! Set up an arts and crafts chain with plenty of stationary, buttons, sequins and other trinkets. Ask your loved ones to make a card or use the one they brought, and give them free range to jazz it up! Once they are done, use cheap frames to finish their mini masterpieces off, and then they are done and ready to hang up as a sentimental touch to the nursery. Speaking of framing, a quirky idea is to frame old baby clothes from previous young ones, which you aren’t going to be using anymore. It’s a great way to recycle something that may have ended up being thrown out. They make quaint little decorations and rather obviously they suit the nursery theme awfully well!
You could also frame pages from books, particularly charming and timeless children’s book, as an ode to the literature you grew up with and your baby might too! You don’t need to only look online, you can find gorgeous antique books in local stores and maybe even ask family and friends if they have books which are no longer being used, as a cheaper alternative. You could even model the theme of your interior on the book/s you choose. Consider the likes of Roald Dahl and Dr Seuss for your little one.
Perfecting Paint
Here is yet another simple DIY: all you really need is a bucket of paint and a bunch of willing hands! Get your family or other close relations to leave their mark – quite literally – on the nursery’s walls, by leaving an imprint of their hand (or foot, if they’re feeling silly!). This is a remarkably easy way to add a homely touch to the walls and make it that much more comfortable and inviting! It’s also great for looking back at over the years, as you reminisce about how fast the children have grown!
This next DIY is perhaps the most elaborate and challenging, but it’s also the most rewarding! The idea is to paint a mural on your baby’s wall, and it could be of pretty much anything that is in keeping with the vibe of the nursery – which is usually soothing and relaxing. You don’t just need to use paintbrushes, experiment with sponges, clothes, toys and other equipment to make a quirky variety of shapes and add real interest to your walls.
Homely Hangings
For something a little more sophisticated and adult, hang aged materials like paper from clips, similar to how you would hang clothe on a washing line. You can hang cards from loved ones, songs, photos of important people and places, or just pretty and relaxing images that complement the vibe of your nursery. This is an affordable and gorgeous way to add some interest to plain nursery walls.
To bag some extra storage, hang a hamper on one of your nursery walls for quick and simple tidying and reorganization. It’s a great way to rescue back some of that prized floor space, by making sure that anything that has a possibility of being on the wall, is indeed on the wall.
Pegboards are similarly great for you to hang up little but important items and then grab and go as you please. They are easy and organized, laying out everything important in front of you so you don’t have to go searching for it, especially if it’s an emergency. Although it’s often associated with tools and industrial equipment, if you dress it and personalize it, it will fit right into your baby’s nursery. This is a particularly great storage alternative for renters who may not want to make too many alterations to the wall, as it reduces the amounts of holes made.
You can even use any doors in the room to your benefit! Hang bags and hampers from door knobs for yet another easy to way to pick and drop pesky little toys and other trinkets as soon as you see them, rather than letting them pile up and become a trip hazard for you or for little ones.
Sneaky Storage
Floating shelves are an absolutely brilliant way to store and display items at the same time. It’s another great way to keep as much clutter off the floor as possible. You can use these shelves to put up homely frames and photos, whilst still putting away creams and clothes so that they are easy to grab as and when needed.
If there is a reasonable amount of space, adding another shelf or rail to a cupboard is a great of fitting some more diapers or wipes in case of emergency. It’s a foolproof way of increasing storage without decreasing space!
If you have hooks on your doors or on the wall where you hang clothes, you could even consider putting a string between the hooks with little pegs. This is a quick way of getting some more space to hang up clothes so that they aren’t just thrown on a chair in the corner!
Cute Creations
Picking your baby’s name can often be a long and difficult decision, however, there’s no better feeling than when you finally stumble across the perfect name! Once you have overcome that process, use this nifty DIY to display their name loud and proud in their nursery! Cut the letters for the name or maybe even the message out of a sturdy material like cardboard, taking care to ensure that the edges are neat and tidy for a professional look. Use PVA glue or another form of glue to stick thread or yarn to your letter, spinning it around the back and front and making sure it is stuck on tightly. After that, you can bedazzle your letters however you wish! If you aren’t too keen on yarn, go for other fabrics like silk or wool, whatever takes your fancy! Maybe even consult your baby…If you have any leftover fabric, you can incorporate it somewhere else in the interior, such as by framing it.
You can even buy some cheap but robust hoops and glue fabrics to them to dress them up with some bright patterns and colours. Then hang these hoops up on pegs or hooks for a unique style of décor. Make sure the fabric is pulled tightly about the hoop, any crinkles or creases will negatively impact the look.
Another artsy idea for a nursery decoration would be DIY silhouettes. These silhouettes can be any shape you wish, maybe the image of something you like or personal to you, like a certain animal or a family member or even your favourite food! All you need to do is draw or cut out a template, then place it atop some card and cut the card around the template, or trace the template around the card – whichever is easier for you. You can even put a backing to your silhouette and frame it for a finished, clean and professional look. Equally, you could use Blu Tack to stick them to the walls, which gives you the freedom to regularly change their positioning if you wish.
These were some beginner and some more complex DIY ideas for when it comes to decorating your baby’s nursery. Do your best to get loved ones involved so that all the important people in the baby’s life can leave their mark on the nursery. There are thousands upon thousands of more DIY décor ideas for your nursery online. All you need is some time, some money, and maybe a little bit of spare change. If you’re really resourceful, you may only need items that are already in your home! Go search in nooks, crannies and attics to find items that no longer serve any particular purpose, and breathe new life to them. Happy decorating!
