6. What are they like in motion–in different environments, and in different activities? What causes the differences between these?
off the bat, from the jump, count lucio is cocksure. he’s the first thing of note in a room. that didn’t start with his being a count and it’s something that has persisted his entire life and even after it. he’s got a larger-than-life feeling about him. he’s graceful to a point and assured. it doesn’t matter what environment lucio finds himself in, he will make sure his environment is a reflection of him. he can be in a room of other nobles or walking the streets of vesuvia, it’s all the same to him.
it depends what kind of activities he’s engaging in, but the confidence remains all the same! let’s take sword fighting for example. his confidence will be with him still, but there will be a free-wheeling splash that’s so hard to overlook! he takes great joy from sword fighting and he’s very good at it, too.
10. What energizes and drains them most?
lucio is one of those extroverts, so he loves being around other people! he seldom sees their point of view, but he loves being around them regardless! so he loves events. he’s a super active person and so he still partakes in sword fighting and horseback riding, things of that nature! he doesn’t like to idle. lucio doesn’t like being in court. he thinks the council is so ridiculous!
14. What do they care deeply about? What kind of loyalties, commitments, moral codes, life philosophies, passions, callings, or spirituality and faith do they have? How do these tend to be expressed?
himself. he’s so fucking selfish. that’s the top thing. next, he cares about nadia. her presence and insight is valuable, and she helped show him the political ropes. their teamwork is phenomenal. lucio cares about his animals! each one! mercedes and melchior are his favorites of course, but camio is right behind them. this is going to sound unbelievable, but he loves vesuvia. it’s shallow, he loves them because they love him, and even that may be shallow because of his tendency to throw parties like he’s jay fucking gatsby or something. but vesuvia was doing just fine under his and nadia’s rule until the plague happened, thanks.
lucio has no morals. his loyalty is wholly dependent on what he can get out of a situation. lucio’s committed to whatever he needs to be committed to. he is not a quitter and he’ll see things through to the bitter end. lucio’s just a passionate person in general! his calling ….. well. he thought he could be out doing more than just being a poor mercenary, so here we are. philosophies…he believes in sticking things out. he believes in putting in the work. he believes in having a good fucking time. he believes in knowing your worth. i don’t see lucio as that spiritual? he doesn’t disbelieve, it’s just not something he partakes in, like he’s just not praying or going to church. he DOES believe in the supernatural from ghosts to demons. he expresses all this…by saying it. lucio will tell you and he will show you.
15. What kind of inner life do they have — rich and imaginative? Calculating and practical? Full of doubts and fears? Does it find any sort of outlet in their lives?
i think he’s a bit imaginative! not enough to put it to use in other areas that aren’t like fashion or decorating. he can play the harp! but yes, he daydreams every now and again. lucio’s more calculating and practical, though. he’s careful in his own way. lucio isn’t the kind of man to doubt himself. it might be good if he was, but that’s never been his deal. if there’s something he’s not sufficient in, he’ll get angry, and then get sufficient. he’s afraid of death. he’s seen so much of it and he knows it’s how it goes, but he doesn’t and didn’t want it for himself. he never wanted to die? he loves living? he’s too grand to die. it’s realistic that a major fear of his is being forgotten, and assuming he’s the devil card which can represent a personal hell –sometimes even by one’s own doing – in the case that people near him have forgotten him, this appears to be the case. it’s probably one of the reasons he’s had so many paintings and statues commissioned. he wanted to be something, and he was! the plague cut things so short.
his fear of death and being forgotten manifests in his temper tantrums and desperation to find a cure.
20. What kind of individual relationships do they have with others, and how do they behave in them? How are they different between intimate relationships like friends, family, and lovers versus more impersonal relationships?
a lot of his individual relationships are so shallow. some people are around him because they work for him, and so it’s not that deep to either party. lucio minds his council a little more, but he prefers valerius’ company the most. most of his relationships are just noise and lucio acts the same in them. it’s nice in the moment, at least in the instances that lucio behaves like a normal person. it’s like having a lot of warmth cast on you.
lucio’s a bit more decent around his real, genuine friends as rare as those are. if he likes someone, it’s apparent, and he might even make the effort not to be a self-centered tool! he will shower these people in gifts and compliments, and be outwardly affectionate with them.
i’m not sure how it was with his family? he was raised communally in his war tribe, so it was tight knit i would think. he has no actual blood siblings. he cares about the people back home to an extent, certainly, and didn’t pretend they didn’t exist as soon as he became count. he still visits home.
as with lovers, lucio still acts with them as he would a close friend, warm and affectionate, managing to tone down how boorish he is. he makes sure to spoil nadia to the point that i’m sure it’s irritating. he’s big on physical touch, so he’s always holding her hand or waist, even sometimes teasing at her cheeks and hair.
with impersonal relationships, the bottom line is that people are going to know they’re just a speck to him.
he has some other relationships to note of course: julian and asra!
julian is often the target of lucio’s increasing tantrums and scorn. lucio’s interested in julian because of the doctor’s wish to do good in the world. it isn’t something he can relate to, but both he and julian have seen so much death and war and blood. julian is lucio’s trusted physician and has probably seen him more often in a state of weakness that others couldn’t imagine from lucio. lucio can sometimes normally talk to julian without being an absolute fucking demon, so it just depends.
lucio and asra’s relationship is …. uhhh not good! those two hate one another so much. it’s a bit ambiguous as to the reason ? lucio as a person is a good explanation but there’s the theory that the apprentice had the plague and lucio sent them to lazaret to die! lucio doesn’t care for asra because like with julian, he’s looking for a cure and has been given nothing. asra speaks boldly to lucio, which he both appreciates and detests in equal measure. he also can’t shake asra as easily so that pisses him off. the two can only fake genial interactions.
as an additional point, i kind of assume lucio was acquainted with the apprentice in some manner, so i’m sure there was some kind of relationship there, good or bad.
25. What do they need and want out of relationships, and how do they go about getting it?
attention and affection. he just needs to feel important and he doesn’t have to struggle to get either of those because he’ll get them in some form or another! he’s a noble so it’s shallow a lot of the time, but he’ll take it. prior to be married lucio wasn’t like out there getting into relationships … he looks like a dog and he had fun but he was like not serious ? he didn’t get serious until he met nadia. he likes spending time with her, so i imagine there’s a lot of that so long as nadia is willing to put up with him.
30. What is their preferred level of activity and stimulation? How do they cope if they get either too little or too much?
lucio is like, never still. he’s always doing something!! always!! he likes to be up and at em. even in stillness lucio possesses a kind of animation about him. the plague rocked his shit because he had to be confined to his chambers a lot of the time and that was worse than the illness itself to him. the plague marked an end of some freedom and that just wasn’t good. if lucio isn’t out and about he will get irritated. he copes by being a fucking demon.
38. Is there anything they wish they could change about their worldview or thought processes? What, and why?
no. lucio thinks he’s right about everything, ever. he never challenges his way of thinking, and he won’t let anyone do it to him, either.
40. What do they wonder about? What sparks their curiosity and imagination, and why? How is this expressed, if it is?
magic? lucio’s interested in magic. super interested. to him, it represents will and desire, both of which he has in droves, and might’ve had a part in his inevitable undoing. as far as it goes here, lucio took up improving on what he could do with magic and dabbled in what people consider darker magic. it’s clear there’s some kind of devil and demon themes at work with him, and he finds sacrifice interesting, too. to me, that’s what lazaret was, because it doesn’t seem like the plague was contagious… for a plague, which is suspicious, and seems more like a curse than a disease that started up due to poor conditions or something else. if it wasn’t contagious he had no reason to send people off to burn.
but magic is a big interest to him and i assume he invited the apprentice to the palace at some point because of this! he likes to be around magicians and to see it first hand. he’ll openly express his interest to anyone who’ll listen, and he’ll ask questions to boot.
lucio’s interested in the arts, and given the undisclosed time period, i’m going to assume he likes theatre a lot. he was a donor to the theatre before he died, so! he would been seen at the community theatre which was always a big deal because he’s the count or whatever! i think he would like acting … he might’ve dabbled in things like it. he likes painting, too. he’s no good at it, but he loves being painted, that is! sculpture fascinates him, too, so any artists are always welcome in the palace for these reasons.
power and influence always makes lucio curious, and if he thinks someone has these things, he’ll watch them carefully for a while before he approaches. he’s a lot more methodical in his antics than one assumes!
