Aside from the literal chaos that has been in the fandom, it feels great to be a little out of the “Elriel doesn’t exist phase” with the release of each article. It’s almost like elriels weren’t crazy for picking up what SJM was putting down in Acosf. Even when I got done reading Acosf, I knew one thing for certain: Gwynriel doesn’t exist. I wasn’t even an Elriel before reading Acosf. I just picked up what was being put down. The Gwynriels make it so hard. They need to stop the whining now!

Yeah, I mean realistically, it was a thing since ACOWAR. Since the rescue, there was little doubt which way the wind was blowing. But in GAs desperate desire to not have Azriel end up with Elain, they invented Gwynriel.

It really is very silly. Like every time I hear another argument for GA, I am just like...you for real?

And the thing is, if they were normal crackshippers, that would be totally cool. You have your Neris folks and your Azris folks--whatever. They wanna pair everyone with Eris, they are welcome to. But at least (most) of them are rational enough that they can say, yeah, I recognize this as being a crackship, but I am into it.

GAs are still running around lambasting every content maker, begging for GA art, thinking that only if they get more arts, somehow, GA will miraculously happen for them. That's not how it works.

I think they also think that SJM is some major twisty-turny writer, who bombards us with unexpected and shocking turns. Ummm...no? Not really. I think a couple of times in TOG there were some interesting surprises. But really, was anyone shocked by ANYTHING in ACOTAR? (other than Elain stabbing the King) or in CC? Particularly when it comes to relationships? Was anyone really shocked that Feylin wasn't endgame? If you were, congratulations! You are probably a GA right now.

I'm personally hoping for one season based on the first book before it gets cancelled for a lack of views or for backlash to the lack of diversity or for getting flack for the *ahem* distasteful discussion of slavery and whatnot as Snow said. Only one season means just Feylin content. Feylin gifs, Feylin fic, Feylin moodboards... I'll be LIVING for when that time comes

I can't wait for the news about the Acotar adaptation to start trickling out and the Fandom to act the way it does. If they even get a first season, a broader audience will be reached and come to these spaces. Then stuff like that one Stan we all know will be seen and the toxicity of the Fandom will come out. Video essays will discuss things that happen in the next books and Disney will plug the plug.

You don't think they will? They canceled a show that was doing well because it was doing well in a demographic they didn't intend. They said it wasn't the brand they wanted. We have Stans bitching at an artist for painting Tamlin. They bullied Danielle Rose Russell and body shamed her. You think they'll want this tied to them?

This poll, had the week originally be set for April, but the month is already filled with three separate fandom events, and adding a fourth may overwhelm those who wish to participate, so the week has been pushed a month and will now be help in May. All future weeks, however, will still be held May 5th - 11th

Do I have to stick to the prompts?

Not at all. The prompts will be more guidelines than rules. They’re there for inspiration and to remind people of Feylin moments that they may not remember to make participation easier. Additionally, the days aren’t deadlines, works for Day One can be posted on Day Three. The Masterlists for each day won’t be posted until the week is over, so don’t stress trying to adhere to the timeline.

Thank you for your ACOTAR takes! It’s helped me articulate some of my own thoughts on the series, especially regarding the Feylin/Feysand dynamics.

I don’t blame readers who have a hard time accepting Rhys’ actions UtM (because good intentions aside it was still a breach of Feyre’s consent and we can’t ignore that), but it’s framing in the narrative context, combined with the fantastical nature of the setting, makes it easier to understand—for me at least. Tamlin doesn’t have such context to “justify” his abuse towards Feyre post-UtM. Amarantha was no longer a physical looming threat and he wasn’t confined to the curse or survival, but rather than listening to her and giving her the freedom and means to heal he chose to ignore her suffering and allow his anger and fear to control him.

You're welcome :) SJM published ACOTAR almost ten years ago now, so I don't know how new most of my thoughts are. But my Tumblr is for ME, and I love to yap.

Ten years old or not, I don't think the fandom will ever reach a consensus about Rhys's actions. Like you mentioned, how forgivable (or not) you consider Rhys's decisions probably comes down to how much weight you put on the intent of his actions versus the experience/effects of said actions. I personally don't really know what else he could have done, even though what he did was gross.

It does annoy me when people frame his actions (not just Under the Mountain) in terms of modern legal standards - I've seen people talk about stuff like which war crimes/crimes against humanity he's committed, and I'm like... Girl, please. C'mon. By modern standards, Tarquin is also a war criminal for killing prisoners of war in ACOWAR. By modern standards, even your favorite high lord is a dictator. ACOTAR obviously isn't the deepest book every written, but let's not get TOO silly here.

But I digress. I've talked a bit about my thoughts on Tamlin's actions here and here. I definitely read some of his behavior toward Feyre as abusive, or at least controlling and neglectful. I also think that there's a lot to unpack with his motivations and reasoning. Especially for people who put a lot of weight on Rhys's intentions in ACOTAR, it's worth also parsing Tamlin's intentions IMO. One of the things I love about ACOTAR is that everyone is deeply, deeply flawed, and many people can find something sympathetic about most characters (case in point, look at how popular Eris has gotten). I don't think that Feyre or anyone else is obligated to forgive Tamlin. I also don't think anyone has to like him. But like most of the other characters, he's a really complicated figure.

I’m gonna start shipping Feylin out of spite. ANY discussion about Tamlin is twisted into this abuse apologism bubble and it’s pissing me off. Apparently, Tamlin can’t exist on his own, even as a character with actual motivations, wants, and faults. ‘Ew you like Tamlin’ - you know what? Now I do.

Yes, it's... bizarre how this fandom acts. I don't even like him that much outside of his dynamic with Feyre but the insane amount of vitriol for examining his character is actually crazy.

Tamlin Week Prompt Ideas

After giving it a lot of thought, I have decided to go ahead with the Tamlin Week event. It’s on the calendar and everything!

When I put out this poll, most of the votes were for April, but that was too soon for me to get everything pulled together in a reasonable manner. I needed a little time to figure out the process, since I’m still getting used to the platform, and this is my first event as a mod! And this way, everyone has more time to get through school, approach artists for commissions, brainstorm ideas, etc.

If you want to weigh in on prompt ideas, here’s what I have so far:

After giving it a lot of thought, I dusted off a Feylin one-shot fic I'd started a while back, polished it up, and gave it a nice ending, then posted it on AO3. It's called: "I Will See You Again" by Lady Midnight. It's the only one with that title in the ACOTAR fandom.

P.S. Feel free to delete this ask if it doesn't fit your blog. I just thought I'd put this out there if there's some interest. I'm not asking for kudos or comments (although they would be nice, haha), but if there is some genuine interest in Tamlin-positive stories, this could encourage other writers out there. Starting today is a new series: ‘I Will Go Down With These Ships’ 

I will be creating and constantly adding to a series of playlists on Spotify named after ships/doomed ships/ex-ships in the ACOTAR & TOG series.

This is just a fun little project that I’m doing and I thought would be nice to share with the fandom! Suggestions of songs are always welcome and of course suggestions for other pairings that I may be missing!  (I do want to say that there won’t be a limit on the pairings that I will do playlists for. Even if they were problematic or toxic or whatever... the music will reflect the pairing!)

You know, I almost didn't answer this, because it's clearly baiting me. But I thought I would answer this question. Just because I have thoughts on this.

What business is it of yours if I ship Elain and Lucien? I mean that civilly and genuinely. I don't go to the inboxes of accounts surrounding ships I don't like. I let them live their happy shipper life.

I try not to even publically talk about ships I don't like unless something needs to be said. There's just no point.

Yes, I ship Elucien. I also hard-core shipped Nessian, even, and especially when it felt like the whole Fandom fucking loathed her, and said that Nesta never deserved Cassian.

I see so many people who are reading this series publically for the first time, and everyone gives the new readers the respect to ship Feylin, albeit with a whole bowl of popcorn waiting for the reactions, but they don't tell the new readers they aren't allowed to ship Feylin.

When I was a newbie to these books, one of my closest friends had read this series multiple times over, and she was letting me wear my clown makeup as I was texting her. "Yeah he's so great! He loves her so much!"

Basically what I am saying is, be mature, and fucking respect people. You are allowed to ship what you want, just as much as I am allowed to ship Elucien.

I like a friendly debate. I thoroughly enjoy them. But don't try tell people they aren't allowed to ship what they want. Don't be toxic. Of the itch is that great, fine watch me ship Elucien with a bowl of popcorn, I don't really care.

I am still going to ship Elucien, and I will still post about Elucien. Thats not going to stop. If you REALLY don't like it, filter the Elucien tags, or scroll past. And if all else fails, you're more than welcome to block me.

But don't come into my asks, under the cover of anonymous, and shit on the fact that I ship a couple who you don't like. Grow up. I can be a bitch when I want to be, who has the capability to go from zero to one hundred really fucking fast.

Hii. I followed you yesterday cause I agree on most of the things that you say about a court of silver flames. I am sorry if that made you anxious. It was my intention.

I completely agree with you though. I hate the inner circle with passion (leaving out Cassian ofc) and feel like a court of silver flames is a horrible book written without a thought. I just hate how I get attacked when I say that the inner circle is disgusting and needs help but everyone is just fine when those same words are said about Tamlin (I don’t love Tamlin; I just think that he has also been through a lot and deserves some help too!)

Sorry, I know this isn’t an ask but I just wanted you to know that you are amazing and Feysand is disgusting and no better than Feylin.

I mean it’s cool. I get anxious about almost everything that is just my personality. I went through like two years of having about 800 followers and I knew everyone that I followed and who posted on a regular basis. Like maybe not super close, I’m definitely close to more people now. So yay for ACOSF in that respect. I made many friends who chat with me quite a lot. But now I have seen QUITE a lot of new people join this fandom or actively engage in this fandom I guess since the book came out which is..... I don’t want to gatekeep or anything, but it’s so weird and everyone changed their username and I’m like who the hell are all of you?  And now I have many many more followers and I see the hate in this fandom so often, even in people’s comments and I don’t want that to happen to me. I cannot and won’t deal with that stuff. I’ve blocked so many people since the pre-emptive release of this book. I sometimes forget that this fandom is bigger than I think it is. Because I interact with like 45 people and that’s about it and then I see blatant hate posts in tags, or people not tagging things correctly, and I’m like omg I gotta go. 

But that was my long winded way of saying it’s cool! Follow me, y’all are welcome, just don’t write hate on my stuff and thank you for the compliment. 

That being said I don’t hate the IC. I definitely sound like I hate them in some of my posts. I just have a very big problem with the character development in this series, and the imbalance of character development, which I think is a writer problem. I certainly think that if it was more thought out to include a more well-rounded approach to healing then I wouldn’t have had such a problem with many things that occurred. For example, like if Feyre and Nesta actually had scenes where they began to understand each other, I wouldn’t have thought the pregnancy plot was stupid (even though it had so many potholes). If Rhys had also come to some understanding about himself alongside his views on Nesta, and Nesta began to heal as well, than I wouldn’t have thought the ending was just to wrap things up. If Mor had a scene with Nesta where she doesn’t just learn what Nesta has been through, but who Nesta is, then I wouldn’t have thought it would be weird that Mor would have just changed her attitude about her in the middle of the book. But none of this happened, and unfortunately Cassian also didn’t get enough character development. So Nesta looked in the wrong for the majority of this book, instead of looking like someone who is hurt and very traumatized. Or I suppose she did look hurt and eventually they come to realize she’s traumatized, but because the narrative is so imbalanced and then at the end we have such a great emphasis on fixing relationships, it doesn’t work well, because none of the relationship really had any basis to be fixed. There was no foundation, no build up, no evidence to support the claim that these relationships would work, except that Nesta changed even though we don’t really know if she did. That’s a next book thing, whether or not Nesta will be full inner circle or still somewhat contentious and uncompliant. Could go either way. 

It was all over the place and so even though I thought it was a good book in certain aspects, it fell short in MANY aspects, which I have said many times. It is not 5 stars. I don’t hate it. But it’s not 5/5. 

Tamlin is complicated... I would like to see SJM try to redeem him. But I’ve said this in a post a long time ago, about the likelihood of this being successful. Because the fandom can’t ignore what they already know, and SJM tends to like making tragic pasts to make up for the fact that they’re abusive assholes. To redeem him, SJM would have to be better at writing I think. Like he would need a Zuko arc from ATLA, where he learns, we understand him, and he consistently shows that he’s changed, and even then he would just have to accept that people still might not forgive him, but it wouldn’t be a redemption to the characters in the book, because they don’t care about him, it would be a redemption to the fandom which still might not be successful. It would require a lot of introspection and it would be probably complicated. I would like to see it but not from SJM. Mostly because I love arcs that are based on the fact that people can change and should change, even the worst of us. But that’s my own preference.
