in which i loosely follow the plot of hamilton except its firstprince and alex and henry get a happy ending. inspired by the striking similarities i noted between our favorite first son and his namesake hamilton in the broadway musical

the similarities:

both have/will have a political career

both often talk too much/don't mind their words

both began as lawyers

both extremely motivated but overwork themselves (“nonstop” +  “you have a fire under ur ass for no good goddamn reason)

both had some sort of sex scandal that impacted their career plans

hamilton speculated to be bi

the story

the setup of the colonized country alex lives in is similar to the usa vs england but fictional bc alexs race would have limited his opportunities in america's early years

idk names for either of these countries so its now the colony and the motherland

alex + his mom live alone in the poorer southern part of the colony

but his dad + june live elsewhere + they dont rly contact e/o (tho they do know of e/o’s existence)

june becomes a journalist who writes important pieces abt independence

when alex comes of age his mom reveals she used to be part of the rebellion

thats actually why his dad left to raise june bc it was too dangerous

his parents met in the rebellion but oscar left first for june while ellen stayed until she realized she was pregnant w alex

ellen still has some rebel contacts but she mostly sheltered alex to keep him safe

now tho alex decides to join too + the rebellion sends him up north to the capital for an education bc he's smart + they need people like that

he attends uni + meets like-minded people there

tension grows btwn the colony in the motherland, and alex + his friends write/speak out often and this goes on throughout their schooling

they’re also troublemakers in general too, much to the annoyance of the motherland soldiers stationed in the capital to prevent rebellion

henry is one of those soldiers

he's from a noble family in the motherland but was sent overseas as the sort of black sheep of the family due to his sexuality

the idea was to let him be in charge in the colony + reestablish a reputation there w/o embarrassing the main family back home

henry hates his job + feels bad for the colonists but still does what he's told anyway

alex + fhis riends like to bug motherland soldiers for fun

nothing  enough to put their lives in danger too much (although yes that too esp when drunk)

henry becomes a favorite target of alex's bc he's awfully stoic + statue like + on the way to uni - overall fun to antagonize 

there's also the fact that alex is angry at all the soldiers for oppressing the colony + holding up the motherland monarchs tyranny (but also alex just is the type to fight literally everything and anything) 

it becomes almost a daily ritual for them to argue 

henry wonders why this colonist keeps on picking a fight w him but soon almost looks forward to it

many of the other soldiers know or speculate why henry is in the colony but none make the effort to get to know him; some even call him arrogant or undeserving of his position

alex doesn't 

of course alex also doesn't know him

and alex hates him

but he doesn't whisper behind henry's back

henry comes to read some of the essays alex publishes speaking out against the monarchy + also hears alex speak to crowd in the square

alex is a talented + charismatic public speaker

henry finds himself growing increasingly sympathetic to the colonists cause

at the same time he and the other soldiers are order to be stricter and dole out more punishments

the others gleefully do so which makes henry concerned about alex's safety bc alex often seems to have no self-preservation skills

henry asks alex for a word when he's alone 

“am I in trouble?” “no but you bloody will be if u keep going on like this” 

“this is serious” “so am I” “you can't go around saying things so openly you'll get yourself killed”

alex tries to leave at this point “I think I'll be ok” but henry shoves him against the nearest wall 

“listen to me! stop acting like this is a game! ur putting ur sodding life in danger! I dont bloody care what ur opinions r but why must u declare them around enemy soldiers? how is this helpful 2 ur cause? u cant fight if ur dead” 

“you'd b surprised how effective martyrs are” 

cue enraged henry noises 

alexs gaze turns hard “listen i  appreciate/the advice” he says sarcastically “but I dont need an enemy telling me what to do. I can take care of myself” 

there's a stirring in alexs chest after he removes henry's hand and stalks off that he's pretty sure is anger

like it can't be anything else 

while alex is trying to convince himself of that, the tensions boil over + soon the two sides are on the brink of war then the fighting starts

henry + alex don't talk much for a while bc they're both busy on their sides preparing

school is on hold during the war so alex + his friends are looking to serve + bring glory to their names 

alex esp is recognized for his intelligence + becomes the recognized general rafael lunas secretary

luna is the george washington figure in this case who is impressed by alex wants him as his right-hand man

alex is disappointed his role is not on the battlefield bc he knows he has a good tactical mind + he could change the tide of a losing war + gain honor and status thru it, which would put him in a good position to be elected in the future

as secretary, alex is in charge of a lot of important correspondence eg for more supplies + men, so the motherland soldiers figure ambushing him off the battlefield would make things hard for the colonists

henry overhears this plan + immediately worries for alex's safety but he's cornered by another soldier to talk strategy + misses the chance to take out the men then

henry manages to catch that they're going to attack alex at night when he leaves + henry arrives just in time to kill them in a panic

alex hears the gunshot + yells “drop ur weapon”, drawing his own gun

henry obviously does + alex inspects the scene he keeps a gun fixed on henry

“what's going on?” he asks, eyeing henry w/ suspicion

henry explains everything + looks positively terrified bc he just betrayed his side even tho the motherland and his family has treated him like shit since he came out but still. 

becoming an outright traitor is not something henry ever planned + leaving behind everything he's ever known w no hope of ever going back is terrifying

but he also doesn't regret protecting alex

alex questions henry but can quickly tell henry is sincere + is telling the truth

henry explains his change of heart + they have a heartfelt moment in/just outside luna's office.

alex almost died + henry just switched sides, emotions are running high and they escalate into a kiss. the moon is out + it's all very romantic but they don't admit their feelings yet

soon after they go to luna, explain the situation + talk w the other generals/people in charge

henry is sent away on an assignment + is watched closely at first but he proves his loyalty quickly

henry and alex write letters back + forth that turn into love letters 

besides managing correspondence for luna, some of alexs ideas of sneak attacks/stealing supplies help turn the tide of the war andhe also writes to other countries for foreign aid

eventually the colonists win in this huge up start that no one anticipated bc the motherland is known as the most powerful country in the world

he + henry reunite in the capital of once the war is over

alex finishes up his studies + practices law + soon is chosen to be part of the new lawmaking body

things are going pretty well for alex w his legal + political success and his relationship with henry

they dont live together but theyre dating tho no one else knows

alex pretends to be single instead + says he doesn't want to be tied down

it works while he's still in his early 20s but as he gets closer to 30, people start to find it strange + tell him he needs to settle

being married to his work is also not a valid excuse anymore

it turns out alex made quite a few political enemies due to his strong opinions that he always vocalises + can be unwilling to compromise on

they don't like his ideas or more often hate him and hence his ideas too

they look for some dirt on him bc atm he has lunas support which has a lot of sway + decide they need to find out why he hasn't married

they manage to find out about henry + threaten to tell the public

alex is obviously distraught re the consequences personally + politically

so alex and henry discuss what to do 

henry is willing to put alexs political career 1st but firmly explains their relationship can't continue if that's the case

henry gave up his whole life + any possibility of going back to his family so he's not willing to be someone's dirty little secret  

alex doesn't know what to do so he goes to consult luna who he's become very close with over the years

luna is not quite old enough to be his father but he's like an uncle + he always calls alex “kid”, much to alex's annoyance

but alex knows he'll have some good advice

alex + luna end up having a long conversation

like washington luna has always been very vocal abt his regrets re his naivety + desire for glory back in his youth

hes always said that this was his greatest regret in life. but then he tells alex like he had another great regret in life- letting go of the love of his life

alex is surprised bc luna's never mentioned anyone special

“who is she?” 

“he” luna corrects “he was my best friend. we had something a relationship but it was short-lived bc I decided I wanted to join the military + attain glory. i thought thats what i wanted in life. turns out that stuff is meaningless w/o anyone to share it w. nor did I even achieve it. perhaps i did accomplish some things but now in my retirement I have no one by my side. i have found that life is meaningless without love and family.  

“i tried to find my friend to reconnect after all these years even as simply friends but he died in the war. alex, I see many similarities between us. don't make the same mistake that I did, alexander. glory + lasting legacy mean nothing if you're alone in the end

“if you make choices that are motivated by love and family you will be a lot happier”

alex takes his advice even though he kind of hates sort of giving up to his enemies

he decides to choose henry and his own happiness over politics bc in the end he's done a lot of good work and that much is enough

also his enemies probably would try to blackmail him throughout his career if he was doing something against their interests

so he + henry leave the capital and move uptown and the two of them have a quiet retirement + engage in philanthropy for the rest of their lives

separately they've amassed a decent amount of money - henry kept a portion of his inheritance despite being unofficially disowned and alex made a lot of money as a lawyer and then politician

as it turns out alex still has a tangential role in politics when some of his former allies go to him for advice

all in all, alex happy with his final decision to be with henry and step away from politics

the two of them live happy and full lives together

Analysis Time!

So I was looking into personality types from the Enneagram of Personality and got to thinking about Steven Universe after looking at the Type 2 personality. and HOO BOY do i got some stuff to dissect here. 

Lets start with what the type 2 personality is. It goes under the name The Helper or The Giver. 

The Helper is the caring, interpersonal type. They are generous, demonstrative, a people-pleaser, possessive, sincere, empathetic, and warm-hearted.

Basic Fear: Of being unwanted, unworthy of being loved

Basic Desire: To feel loved

So far kind of sounds like Steven. 

 There are levels to development for each type that go from healthy to average to unhealthy. And i want to look at Steven’s character through out the whole series so far. 

Healthy Levels:

Level 1 (At Their Best): Become deeply unselfish, humble, and altruistic: giving unconditional love to self and others. Feel it is a privilege to be in the lives of others.

Level 2: Empathetic, compassionate, feeling for others. Caring and concerned about their needs. Thoughtful, warm-hearted, forgiving and sincere.

Level 3: Encouraging and appreciative, able to see the good in others. Service is important, but takes care of self too: they are nurturing, generous, and giving—a truly loving person.

Through out most the series, Steven goes between these levels and a little bit into the average levels at times. He is a kind, loving kid. He encourages and inspires others around him for the better. He is forgiving to everyone around him. Even the Diamonds, while he disagrees with what they were doing, he gets them change their ways and forgives them for the crimes they committed. 

Steven goes around Beach City trying to help everyone he comes across and wants to be helpful and seen as a good person. 

He sees the good in many bad guys of the series and wants the best for them and wants to be on good terms with everyone. 

Average Levels:

Level 4: Want to be closer to others, so start "people pleasing," becoming overly friendly, emotionally demonstrative, and full of "good intentions" about everything. Give seductive attention: approval, "strokes," flattery. Love is their supreme value, and they talk about it constantly.

Level 5: Become overly intimate and intrusive: they need to be needed, so they hover, meddle, and control in the name of love. Want others to depend on them: give, but expect a return: send double messages. Enveloping and possessive: the codependent, self-sacrificial person who cannot do enough for others—wearing themselves out for everyone, creating needs for themselves to fulfill.

Level 6: Increasingly self-important and self-satisfied, feel they are indispensable, although they overrate their efforts in others' behalf. Hypochondria, becoming a "martyr" for others. Overbearing, patronizing, presumptuous.

In the original Steven Universe series, the highest level Steven probably got to was a level 4 and it wasn't too often. Its not even that bad. Hell, Steven in the movie wasn’t past level 4 to our knowledge.

However, watching Steven Universe Future’s first 10 episodes shows the audience that Steven is moving into more unhealthy levels. Now a level 5 and 6 arent bad necessarily but one line struck a cord with me and was a real inspiration for this analysis.  

They need to be needed.

Boy does that sound familiar. Don’t know what im talking about, watch Prickly Pair. 

Theres also this   

self-sacrificial person who cannot do enough for others—wearing themselves out for everyone. 

Thats the whole freaking thing Steven’s been going through in Future.

Now we  get into...

Unhealthy Levels:

Level 7: Can be manipulative and self-serving, instilling guilt by telling others how much they owe them and make them suffer. Abuse food and medication to "stuff feelings" and get sympathy. Undermine people, making belittling, disparaging remarks. Extremely self-deceptive about their motives and how aggressive and/or selfish their behavior is.

Level 8: Domineering and coercive: feel entitled to get anything they want from others: the repayment of old debts, money, sexual favors.

Level 9: Able to excuse and rationalize what they do since they feel abused and victimized by others and are bitterly resentful and angry. Somatization of their aggressions results in chronic health problems as they vindicate themselves by "falling apart" and burdening others. Generally corresponds to the Histrionic Personality Disorder and Factitious Disorder.

Now I dont think Steven has hit any of these levels so far but Future isnt over yet. And im scared for the future of Future.

Why Season 3 was a Rollercoaster of a mess. (Spoilers!)

 Oh boy

Oooooooh boy where do I even begin

Lets start from the beginning i Suppose

When Miraculous Ladybug first came out i fell in love with the series. I thought the premise was nice, the characters ok and the story interesting. Well, to be fair I didnt expect much of the story due to being in its first season, but I loved it. The finale was meh (the last episode, not the mid-series Origins story, I watched it on Netflix). I liked the series. I loved the fandom. And i Couldn’t wait for season 2 at the time.

Then season 2 came out

As i started watching the first ep of season 2, it started out strong, answered a question i already knew, but then... it didn't go any further. See, when I expected season 2, I expected the story to be taken up a notch, the plot to become stronger, new and interesting characters to be introduced, and for someone to replace Hawkmoth as the antagonist (bc in my mind, he always felt like a season 1 antagonist to be replaced one season later by the actual main antagonist, and the mayura leaks did not help). 

But it never came. The story remained simple and eventually started to become bland. All episodes were all single-story eps with no correlation to each other other than the characters in them. Every single character in the show that wasnt Marinette had any sort of character growth, and I could take any one of the episodes out other than the first and last two and it wouldn't have any impact. Maybe not all of them, but some.

(This was the same time I learned that all episodes in the series were meant to always be single episode storylines. It was the same time I learned the the shows creator was also an ASS-truc, but thats a story for another day)

So for season 2, I ended up starting to find the show boring and lackluster. Most of the episodes were boring and unentertaining, and aside from a select few, such as the finale, the new hero eps and a few others, the entire season was boring to heck. 

Worse still, Marinette went from an ok nice girl (who was at times a bit of an arse) to a stalker asshole who was at times worse than Chloe. 

(Then again, the first episode of the entire series literally had Marinette have a planner used to track Adrien's every move, so what the hell do i know)

The fandom, however, was still amazing at the time, so I stuck around. The fanfics were amazing at the time and the fandom was still so kind-hearted

Luckily for me, Season 3 would manage to have some much better episodes.

But at what cost.

WHAT. COST.

See, while Season 3 was undoubtedly better that season 2 overall in episode quality, this season was probably also the worst of all 3 at the same time. This season was not only the worst in overall season quality but the one that entirely ruined the fandom for me. The plot was again non-existent and there was still no character development, but they manage to make this season better by making a plotline that required all characters to be an idiot ball, then ditch it at the end just so Thomas could again insult people on twitter.

Lets start with the first episode of Season 3: Chameleon

Sometime before the production of season 2 and 3, Asstruc learned how to write someone as a martyr people would feel pity for that character and want to protect (read: stan) them.

So naturally, Ass-truc would abuse this a lot.

In the first ep of season 3, Astruc would create the worst episode ever made. 

The premise of the episode is that Lila has returned to school and has been telling lies, which makes Marinette mad. None of the class believes her due to everyone being written as an idiot (seriously the someone gotta has google on their smartphones everyone has), so of course, Naturally Mari confronts Lila, who swears to ruin her life before and after an akuma battle which doesnt really matter for this episode, aside from the fact that Lila fully works with hawkmoth because being a bad kid means that working with a terrorist is perfectly reasonable if you can get revenge on the good guys.

So, including the fact Ass-truc reintroduced Lila back into the show as a Chloe 2.0 to making everyone an idiot ball so that the writing could even work, this will be the episode that I will hate the most. And not just for the episode itself. We’ll come to that later. But the point is, this is how most of the season would go:

-Lila: *exists*

-Marinette: *cries* im suffering so much, my life is ruined!

-Fans: stan to the point of insanity

-Me sipping my salt flavored tea: b*tch calm the f*ck down.

Speaking of Marinette, the Miraculous team had already been hellbent on making Marinette more of an asshole, stalkery and creepy and passing it off as cute in season 2, so they decided to fix that by dialing all that shit up to 11. Episodes like Weredad and Oni-chan really showed this, with the former having Marinette Literally manipulating Chat Noir to be stuck in a bad situation just for her own sake, and latter literally having her try to break into Adriens house because Lila is there. All for the excuse that Lila is a Liar and totally not because she is with Adrien, Marinette cant be jealous because Marinetteisperfectandamazingand-

Yeah, she really sucks as the main character. TBH I'm waiting for the spinoff show where Alix and Kim dare each other to do stupid stuff each episode like its MTV’s Jackass, it's gonna be fun.

Now onto the Other episodes!

While I will admit that compared to season 2, there were a lot of good episodes. Gamer 2.0, Feast, Ikari Gozen, Party Crasher, and of course the heart-wrenching Oblivio come to mind. These episodes are amazing and show how good the episodes are when you make sure the garden gnome is locked in a closet somewhere during episode development.

So out of the 26 episodes, 5 of them were really good.

The rest were either kinda ok or complete shit. That's not to say they were all bad, but there were just some parts... at best there was either a part of it I found cringeworthy too much for me to consider it as one of the good ones, such as Pupetteer 2 with its Adrien Statue scene, or at worst all of it was just written so badly, such as the entirety of Stormy Weather not actually being an episode and acutally being just and episode recap.

Now for the plot. Oh, wait, what plot?

First of all, Miraculous never had one. At best it was just a bunch of single-episode stories that Ass-truc wants you to think are connected somehow and somehow all work together as a cohesive story. A lot of the characters in Miraculous Ladybug

You mean the overarching storyline where Marinette becomes a Guardian just because she can pick a hero? Yeah, just ignore the episode where Fu said he had to spend an entire childhood learning how to even be an apprentice Guardian, or ignore the fact that picking a person to be a hero doesn't make Marinette qualified to be Guardian in a slightest!

(If someone literally has to ask me this, ask yourself if a pharmacist is fit to be a doctor just because they hand out your meds.)

What about the storylines about other certain characters in the show like Lila, who the show has been building up to be a villain while casually destroying characters' intelligence to be able to do so? The story about Chloe accepting that she can’t really be a hero anymore and moving on?

Ruined by the Finale.

Oh yeah, the finale.

This season Finale was probably the worst finale out of all the seasons and half the stuff done in the last two episodes did not make sense. I dont want to talk about it much because I want to do a blog post about it later on, but for the sake of the finale, they ruined a bunch of characters, martyred Marinette for the 100th time, and created some stupid plot ideas for the sake of coolness. And by coolness i mean stanning Marinette again and making her extra special. Doesnt matter if it makes a contradiction or makes no sense. Stupidity has won this episode!

To be fair though, all the reasons above aren’t the reasons I hate this season. 

No.

The reason for season 3 being the worst for me is how it had ruined the fandom.

Ever since the first episode of season 3, the fandom has become a cesspool of salt and anger. Character bashing because the class didn't straight up agree with Marinette instantly, Over the top Marinette stanning, fanfics that go over the top crazy, it has gone insane. On ao3 most fanfics of ML that i have seen have been about ‘Chameleon Fix-Its’ where Lila is metaphorically shot with a GAT, ‘Marinette protection Squads’ which basically involve her moving schools because Lila exists, and the Maribat ship that has made my head dent my desk (seriously where the fuck did it come from?!). Worst still, as a result of Season 3, the Adrien hate has started to go crazy as a result of the Chameleon episode and similar eps resulting in Marinette being shipped with Luka (aka the better Adrien as stated by Marinette stans), Felix before the Felix episode dropped, and even Damien Wayne in the Notorious Maribat ship (no seriously where did it come from i want answers!). To put it simple, thanks to Ass-truc all of ao3 is filled with salt fics and no more original and interesting stories.

BTW while i have your attention and am talking about good Miraculous stories on ao3, go read Miraculous Tales by JED1 on AO3 its soo damn good.

To be fair, I myself am angry at the episode, but only because everyone was written to be an idiot ball for the episode to work, and because of the fact Astruc used the episode to rile up the fandom to be almost as toxic as him.

If anything, its the number one reasons why i hate seasons 3 and the reason why it has ruined the fandom for me.

And that, overall, is why i think Season 3 was a Rollercoaster of a mess.

she’s becoming a martyr and the big bad to rally as many heroes as possible, to get azeroth as strong as it can be against her because something much bigger and badder is coming and azeroth wont be ready for it unless she makes it ready. n’zoth says “the light has struck a bargain with the enemy of all” (assuming he’s not lying as old gods tend to do) in this headcanon i believe the enemy of all would be the undead, even the void fears them because they cant control them. sylvanas burned down a WORLD TREE in the middle of the ocean on an overcast darkshore night with a handful of catapults and elune was just chilling, didnt do ANYTHING until tyrande went to her for power. elune let it happen, she knew how easily the old gods could corrupt a world tree and it was better to let the tree burn than watch every night elf in it die. elune would have been the one to tell voljin to make sylvanas warchief. sylvanas doesn’t give a shit about morals or how people perceive her, she will do whatever she wants because she wants to do it and that’s the perfect tool for a god to use.

she’s been such a massive dick that she’s gotten saurfang to fight instead of give up like he wanted, she got anduin, the most peace loving human on azeroth, to turn to war. she made tyrande undergo a certainly deadly ritual to gain immense power. she drove jaina to her people that she’d have gone to in no other circumstance, sylvanas has been the poster bad guy and it’s made azeroth a million times more prepared for war than it has ever been

i think whether she knows it or not, the light (which in legion was shown to be not as holy and good as previously believed) is using her and by extension the forsaken. i think the most recent cinematic shows she knows what she’s doing, otherwise she wouldnt have sent two nameless rogues to take out two of the horde’s most skilled warriors to convince thrall to return to the fight. she knows the world is going to need him.

there is a reason sylvanas hasnt actually dealt any great blows to the alliance. she’s only forced people to take drastic measures without ever following through on doing any real, lasting damage, and it obviously doesn’t matter to her whether it kills her or not, she’ll take her own city out if it means pissing off as many people as physically possible. she’s too smart to be running around poking as many wasp nests as she can just for funsies. she knows exactly what she’s doing, and what she’s doing is hardening azeroth for a much scarier war than just the tired old horde vs. alliance and she doesn’t care if it destroys her to do it

she died once for her people, how much farther would she go for all of azeroth?

sooooo i just watched Endgame and.... yikes yikes yikes, what the fuck was that, spoilers and messy rant under the read more!!! it’s also anti-tony, just in case!

so first of all the movie was way too fucking long, like only the last 45 minutes are interesting, the first two hours feel like they are padding run time, which of course they have to do since they want to make a movie in two parts to get that cash money, because im sure that disney is really struggling to get money lol!

so that movie was almost 3 hours and ob-vious-ly about 1:45 was dedicated to rdj, his lines, or seeing him, and goddamn i hate his goddamn face, i dont want to ever see him again, at first hes like this is your fault steve! we should have done what i did in the first place, so ultron then, which if i remember correctly didnt go so well, then 5 years later dude’s got a kid, of course, and hes like noooooooooooooo i dont want to help im fine now then boom he’s the hero that’s gonna pull everyone together, while thor has become like not even a shadow of himself? i didnt even recognize him ,mentally not physically, even though that was v v v v strange to see him like, so out of character, defeated and everything, thats not the thor i know 

also what the hell happened to banner, it was so weird seeing the hulk interact like that it felt so cartoonish??

natasha’s death was so funny to me, like she really dies like a dog, completely forgotten while tony has the huuuuge funeral, and he gets to be THE HERO, because of course he has to be, he’s a martyr he saved the planet on his own and why not just make like a huge statue of him and worhsip him every sunday while were at it? but SHE doesnt deserve shit apparently, just a few lines in passing, despite the fact that without her none of this would have happened it felt like a repeat of gamora’s death, like the sexism, as always is, off the charts, oh btw why did she sacrifice herself? for clint? the whitest piece of bread in existence? really? i have to laugh, i love seeing ladies dying for the sake of that one bland ass potatoe sack looking dude, love it! so the only good scenes in all of this garbage was when they all come together at the end, when they slowly appear and steve is standing on his own ready to battle by himself, that was amazing, and when he uses Mjolnir that was dope and i got chill (although i can understand if thor’s stans didn’t like it, i get it 100% but i’m a steve stan first so i loved it), wanda’s fight scene was cool too but waaaay too short

so let’s talk about the NAIL in the coffin goddamnit, steve coming back old af and that hetero ass bullshit ending, listen i don’t understand why it was sam that came to see steve at the end? and not bucky? i just don’t fucking get it? like listen sam is a cool guy and i like the character, but we’ve had close to zero scene with bucky despite their like 90 years of shared experience? like what the fuck? they shared so much and we don’t even get an ending to their relationship, also soooo he cares more about peggy , who he spent like what, months? together when they were young? but his childhood best friend he doesn’t even say goodbye to? the guy who was brainwashed for 70 years and got his memory back by seeing steve? give me a fucking break

they just pissed on everything that made steve a good character and just gave him like motivating speeches and lines and thats it, jesus what happened to my little guy from brooklyn who wanted to fight nazis because it was the right thing to do?

he doesn’t even get to die as a hero, he dies as a fucking old ass dude, i guess only iron man get a triumphant ending right! 

honestly again all of this was fucked up because of the russos and everyone at marvel is constantly humping rdj’s leg, it leads to bad fucking writing, and zero resolution and im disgusted

also i wanted to see valkyrie ( i gasped when she appeared on the horse, i loved it so much), T’challa and Shuri in action and they both have what 34 second of screentime? and not even a speaking line for Shuri, or anyone else really, like goddamn there was so much fucking tony in that movie there was no time for anyone else I guess!

also the time travel thing , i hate that trope so already it wasnt gonna work for me, but it was confusing and badly done, like are you telling me that when steve came back in time he was letting bucky get tortured and brainwashed for 70 years? like i get that the russos aint that smart to think about it but like, they should!

and where the hell is loki? he just bailed? the fuck?, and the entire movie was written with the ass anyways, and every joke landed flat, and god nothing was right with that movie, nothing, execpt the scene i mentionned above and that lasted like 3 minutes into such a long ass movie

oh also, that was hilarious how we find clint in japan, killing asian people because of his angst, loooooved it, amazing how marvel only hires asian to get them killed by the white man, with their own weapon too!, but i guess theyre not racist since they have mantis, who’s asian! but wait she has to be colored in paint, no one can knooow she’s asian, like ... fuck off marvel, fuck off!

Quick RWBY rant before i go to bed

cause i need to get this off my chest. Umm i guess a lot of people were disappointed with the volume 5 finale, which i get cause it certainly wasnt what i expected, not all of it at least, and i understand the reasons why some people were a bit underwhelmed, but it seems people in the FNDM have gone from mildly disappointed to hysterically pissed off in one night. Like... WOW. several people i follow are so effing disgraced by the finale and now everyone seems to be shitting on the entire volume. And yes i do think the finale is the reason behind the volumes dislike as whole, because ive never seen this much critique with it until now. Everyone is going on saying how all the characters are stupid, the plot is dumb, motivations make no sense and the one i keep seeing over and over and the comment that disheartens me the most being “Miles and Kerry are shit writers.” Im kinda baffled by how negative the FNDM has gotten the past couple of weeks and this just takes the fucking cake. So the main problem i want to talk about, everyones problem with the story being Miles and Kerry are bad writers... guys... MILES AND KERRY HAVE BEEN THE WRITERS OF THE SHOW FROM THE VERY BEGINNING. The good old glory days of volumes 1 and 2, they wrote all of that. The jaw dropping twists and turns of volume 3 THEY WROTE THAT. To call their work shit is calling all of RWBY up till now shit. Monty had basic outlines of the story planned out, but the intricate in-betweens of the story were all Miles and Kerry. Monty’s specialty was development and animation, not writing. And on the topic of Monty, i find it ironic with all the talk of martyr’s this volume people really seem to be treating him as one. I just find it really gross and unfair. So many people have said this already but i find some people are having trouble understanding so it seems im going to have to repeat it. What happened to Monty was a tragedy, and completely out of anyone's control, the show has changed without his guidance, but that cant be helped. The people at the forefront of the show right now are the same people Monty trusted with every fiber of his being to keep the show running, that is a much better situation to be in then most shows who have met similar fates. RWBY could not be in better hands, yet people are still sitting here claiming the show has been ruined or is in the process of being ruined. I really dont know how to say this without sounding like a prick but... yall need to get over yourselves.  At the end of the day... what are you really expecting? its a web show, with a fanbase i feel may be getting a bit too passionate for its own good. Im just getting kind of sick of all this unreasonable negativity,,, and yes i think its unreasonable. I wont deny the show has problems, but i also wont let those problems deny me of watching this beautiful passion project and loving and appreciating it for what it is. 

People say Monty would be disappointed by what the shows become, i think he’d be even more disappointed of how its so called ‘fans’ are treating the show and its creators. 

Conclusion: Calm the fuck down. Leave the negativity somewhere else and quit condemning the show for trying its best. Why cant we all just enjoy watching a show together?

If you had the chance to do something illegal and get away with it, would you? this entirely depends on what the illegal thing is? like, would i ever cause a person bodily harm? probably not. something less insane and petty? probably. like if i knew i could steal a tv and get away with it, i probably would.

If Silver was as passionate about Flint I wonder how many people would be telling him he's wrong? If he chose Flint's love over the war would you still hate Him? If Thomas showed up tomorrow and Flint walked away would you be angry or say after all this man has been through he deserves to fight for what he wants above a tenuous alliance bordering on friendship. Are we really mad Silver finally said enough! Oh, but Flint saved his life and Flint is about the war and how could he?? I love your personal opinion about ui! I.e coconut head XD yeah and despite his cute appereance he very strong n that explain why ishida throw away all suffer to him :' but what ur opinion about other cute man like furuta? To be honest im neutral to him, but i dont know why i like when they both together. Not in plot perspective, but my personal interest with cute man :'D

I’m actually really interested in Furuta and Ui’s relationship. Even though I said Furuta will never regard Ui as an actual friend, that doesn’t mean that their interaction and the way their personalities clash isn’t interesting. It’s basically Ui being promoted from Arima’s babysitter, to babysitter of the world’s worst six year old. 

As for my opinion of Furuta, well I sure do talk about him a lot. I regard Furuta the same way I do Arima, in that they’re both characters with really delicate to balance writing that could either turn out fantastic or terrible. Which is why I think it’s no coincidence at all that both Arima and Furuta tend to be totally polarizing love them or hate them characters. 

Arima’s writing has always been a lot more solid though. Arima was established from the beginning as the strongest character, and him showing up at the end of Tokyo Ghoul and his enigmatic actions throughout the few chapters he did show up are all giant signs that blare ‘this character is important.’ Therefore when he did become important again in :re, his foiling to Kaneki and his setup as Kaneki’s ultimate antagonist of the cochlea arc all came about pretty flawlessly. However, Arima’s writing also falls apart almost completely at the end. Don’t get me wrong, I still do personally like Arima. I’ve wrote about him countless times. However, there’s a problem with the way Arima is framed after his death that I like to call “Saint Arima.” Since the story is told from Kaneki’s perspective, the flawed characteristics that Arima portrayed is pretty much completely erased after his death. 

Tokyo Ghoul is a manga that is thematically opposed to the idea of martyrdom. That’s why Kaneki’s martyr complex has always been treated as selfish. The manga wants to say “All you can do is live with loss” as Yomo would put it. Therefore Arima’s death really should have been portrayed as what it was. Arima not having the confidence to reach past what he was born as, and live as himself, and instead choosing to frame the conditions of the world’s revolution around his death. 

In less poetic terms, if Arima was the most powerful ghoul on the planet and he didn’t want to kill ghouls anymore, why didn’t he just?? you know kill the washuu??

That’s not a dig against Arima’s character, that’s just his flaw. He genuinely couldn’t conceive any redemption or path for himself that did not end in his own death. It’s tragic and sad, but it’s also pathetic and should have been treated as such. If the narrative condemned Kaneki’s martyrdom it should have condemned Arima’s as well. Instead we get about five chapters of his death, then several after of characters just mentioning the fact that “Arima is dead” and how much that sucks. 

I still think the content of Arima’s actual character is really quality, and I’m in love with the concept of a character raised to kill, who secretly values life and because of that only wants for death. However, I think the framing around his character falls apart at the end. 

I went on a large tangent about Airma, because I wanted to explain how important I think character framing is, and how framing can even ruin a well developed and complex character. It’s a delicate balance too, especially with more controversial characters like Furuta and Arima. I think the problem with Furuta is exactly the opposite of Arima. Furuta has a really weak introduction and narrative framing with almost no substance to establish his place in the narrative. However, once Furuta is there, everything he’s done so far has at least been active and interesting enough to make him gain momentum as a character. 

Rather then getting a really strong introduction like killing the main character, Furuta’s introduction is as Souta. Then as himself in one panel that we didn’t even realize he was a main character till about 80 chapters later. Souta himself didn’t really exist in the narrative as anything more than a background character. Not even an interesting one like Uta, who just screams “I have a backstory”.  @randomthoughtpatterns​ even did a piece on how Uta had more narrative clout to make the Washuu reveal seem more important that Furuta did. [x]

Noro, had more narrative intrigue than Souta did.  At least Noro’s strange kagune makes you want to figure him out and immediately calls a mystery to mind. The reveal that it was Souta himself who dropped the bars on Kaneki at the end of Tokyo Ghoul meant basically nothing because he wasn’t really a character. He was just some guy who followed Nico around and showed up at the Gourmet club twice. 

Since Furuta had a weak introduction, Sensei had to do a lot of hurrying to make Furuta seem important when it was his time to shine. The Matsumae scene is one of these examples, where the twist is that it’s Furuta rather than Hairu who cashes in Matsumae’s obvious death flag. This was probably the most well done of Furuta’s introduction scenes, because everything was set up beforehand, you knew Matsumae was going to die but you did not know how. It took a surprise turn when Hairu and Kijima were both defeated, because it looked for a moment like there was no other investigator that could kill her. Hairu and Kijima also, have important foreshadowings that could qualify as red herrings for Furuta. Hairu was a garden child, and Kijima had many signals that looked like he was associated with V from the way he dressed to his introduction mirroring Kaiko’s. In the end, it’s Furuta who cashes in both of those foreshadowing, being a garden child and an important V member. 

However, the two other demonstration of Furuta’s power after that are both really rushed scenes. The Furuta Eto fight, which was built up for an entire arc ended in a one way beat down offscreen, and possible fridging of Eto to estalbish Furuta’s strength. How lame it is to fridge a character aside, it’s just not entertaining in general to watch an entire fight happen offscreen. Especially a fight with substance, because Furuta and Eto represent two different kinds of revolution. Besides, we don’t know a lot about how Furuta is strong, is it garden training? Is it entirely Kanou’s fault? Does he just know a lot about surprise and trickery?

We don’t know it all happened offscreen. The other major one is the happening in chapter 98 where Furuta basically just teleports to the Washuu island, slaughters what have been the head of a 100 year regime that controls Tokyo with an iron fist overnight, and apparently kills a man whose been established as being able to fight SSS ranked ghouls, known as the demon Tsuneyoshi, apparently while he was sleeping on his desk. The thing is there’s also a lot of potential to establish things about Furuta with this scene if it had been just given the time it needed. You could have shown what Furuta’s plan was, how exactly he convinced the clowns and V to side with him and exterminate the Main Washuu family. Furuta could have walked the grounds as the Washuu were being slaughtered, and had flashbacks of his childhood and what led him to this point. We could have at least seen the Washuu put up a decent fight so they didn’t seem like the lamest conspiracy managers ever. However, it all happened offscreen so who cares. 

Everything that has happened to establish Furuta has been super rushed and shaky. He’s a character that came out of nowhere and now the entire narrative revolves around him. However, if this is going where I think it is and Furuta’s not the true final boss of Tokyo Ghoul then at least Furuta’s arc will be thematically sound. 

He’s Kaneki’s shadow after all. He literally did not show his true nature until Kaneki remembered his true self. Then suddenly as Kaneki takes importance in the narrative on the ghoul’s side, Furuta occupies the place he would have on the CCG side. In the illusion of the moon arc, Furuta seems like the most important character then. However, what establishes him is shallow and he likely won’t last long.

If he sticks into that strict framework then I might find myself liking Furuta. The problem though is the same as Arima, Furuta risks becoming a very bad character if his framework loosens even a little bit. He can quickly seem like a character motivated only by misogyny and an unfounded grudge towards Rize. I think the character should focus a lot more on the Washuu, and how Furuta feels towards the hollow system of patriarchy he was born into rather than his weird childhood crush on Rize he can’t let go of. The writing with him shines a lot more when he’s pointing at the CCG and laughing.
