Stand By Ed Chapter 9 (An Ed, Edd n Eddy/Stand By Me Fanfiction)
Note: Here is chapter 9 of @impano and I’s crossover of Ed, Edd n Eddy and Stand By Me. Enjoy the epic confrontation!
Following the tracks in uncomfortable silence the trio was coming closer to their destination. Except, they no longer felt excited. Now they were anxious and quite nervous. Soon, they’d see this dead body, the goal they’d been walking this great distance just to witness. It all felt silly. Like some plotline in a movie.
“Should be ‘round here somewhere! Keep an eye out,” Eddy pointed out.
The Eds split between the train tracks looking off into the woods.
“Hey, guys, look!” Ed called out pointing down a trail.
There it was. The Eds blood ran cold. Edd was first to lead the group as if he was in a hypnotic trance. Ed and Eddy were in close proximity, their hearts pounding.
The boys untied, dirty shoes were just sticking out from under a bush. Sticks covered the upper half of his body. Scars covered his face. Turning their noses up at the horrid smell, Eddy felt sick to his stomach. He just then realized that his own brother killed this boy.
Picking up a nearby stick, Ed pulled back the debris.
What they were met with was the most awful, painful sight.
Staring up at the sky with this shocked expression the boy looked as if he died fast like he never knew what happened. He died alone. It was unfair. Right at his stomach, dried blood covered his shirt. The possibility that he was still been alive when he was thrown in front of the train was very likely.
“We should... make a stretcher,” Ed’s voice hitched.
Eddy nodded in agreement, swallowing hard, finally looking away from the haunting eyes. “Then we have to call the cops. Sooner the better.”
Edd gulped. His legs felt like jello. Never once taking his eyes off the body, Edd sat down on a nearby fallen tree. The boy'seyes stared into his soul. Just like...
“What did I do?” Edd said aloud.
Hearing Edd’s voice, Ed and Eddy looked up.
“What’s wrong with Double D, Eddy?” Ed asked worriedly.
“No-Nothing, Ed, just keep pilin’ up sticks,” Eddy ordered.
Reluctantly, Ed did as he was told. He walked some distance into the woods and bent down to the ground, picking up sticks.
Sighing, Eddy slowly walked over to his friend and sat down next to him. Tears were just seconds away from escaping Edd’s eyes. He was shaking, too. And his breathing sounded as if it were caught in his throat. It was heartbreaking to see Edd this way.
After a few moments of quiet, Eddy asked, “What’s up?”
Edd’s mouth trembled. “Why did it happen?” He asked without looking at Eddy.
Avoiding looking at the body, Eddy shrugged, staring into the dirt. “I don’t know, sockhead. Bro... he...”
“No...”
“Huh?”
Edd then turned to face him, with this expression of utter horror and guilt. “How could I hurt them? I only wanted to show them how it felt.”
At first, Eddy had no idea what Edd was even talking about. Until he realized that his statement was about the dodgeball incident that happened from his childhood. Eddy thought that was long past Edd. Shows what he knew. How was he supposed to know what others were thinking about?
“And I went mad,” Edd continued, his voice shriveling up in horror. “They all looked dead. Ho-How could I hurt them?”
Eddy remained quiet, letting Edd talk. It was just like what Edd would do.
“And Mother and Father are ashamed of me...”
“You don’t need them.”
Tears streamed down Edd’s cheeks as he let out a heartbreaking cry. “My father... s-said I’m no good. I’m no good.”
Eddy shook his head. “He doesn’t know you.”
“He hates me!” Edd wailed. “My father hates me! He hates me!”
“No! He just doesn’t know you!” Eddy defended wrapping an arm around Edd as he sobbed. He even let Edd lean against his shoulder as he rubbed his shaking back. “Your parents don’t appreciate you, sockhead. You’re talented and smarter than every kid in Peach Creek! That incident, well, it happened. It ain’t who you are.”
Edd was a tad calmer now, enjoying Eddy’s comfort. He hiccuped, wrapping an arm around Eddy’s back. The boy didn’t mind. He liked it, too. Ed was missing from the picture. He wished he didn’t send him off like that.
“You’re... you’re gonna escape from here, Double D. Go to college, and discovered a way to get rid of bad memories and win all kinds of prizes. You’ll be the talk of the world.”
Edd snickered, hiccuping. Eddy smiled down at him giving his best friend a good squeeze. “You are so much more, Edd.”
“And you’d make a wonderful author, Eddy,” Edd admitted, his voice still heavy from the tears.
Eddy rolled his eyes. “Yeah, yeah, don’t get all sappy on me.”
“Haven’t we all ready?”
Edd and Eddy laughed feeling better. Then they stared into one another's eyes. Every journey they went on they were going to have a moment like this. And it was quite enjoyable.
Just then, Ed returned, only to drop his pile of wood to the ground.
“Well, look what we have here!” It was Terry!
The Eds blood ran cold. Terry stood at the top of the trail until slowly walking down the trail as if he were a predator stalking the Eds.
In an instant, the boy stood up and crowded behind the body of the boy, defending each other at all costs.
“See you got here before me. Hope the dark wasn’t too scary for yah,” Terry mocked, flipping off his sunglasses and attaching them to his shirt.
“How the hell did you get out here? The police should be on your ass!” Eddy yelled.
Terry presented his ankle as if it were some object in a museum. “Don’t you love when you find out how to remove a police ankle bracelet? And everything's easier when you got a car.”
“You get outta here!” Eddy hissed, stepping forward. “We found him! Just wait until the police hear about this!”
“It’s three against one!” Ed determined, curling his fists.
Terry nodded. He then reached into his pocket and retrieved a pocket knife. Slowly, he shined it with a tissue, staring at the Eds.
The Eds stood their ground, Edd especially who never once took his eyes off the vile man.
Eddy stepped forward again. “Back off!”
Terry laughed this ugly, intimidating laugh. “Is that all you got? Haven’t I taught you anything, pipsqueak?” The knife lightly circled in his hands as Terry kept walking closer, albeit slowly to see how the boys would react. Ed shook, quietly inching behind Eddy for more protection.
“You have two choices. Either leave quietly and let me take that body off your hands. Or you could stay, help me out. ‘Sides, it’s my mess? Ain’t it?”
“Yeah, I know you killed him!” Eddy yelled taking another step closer. He had no idea where he was getting this ounce of courage from. It felt right. For the first time, Eddy was listening to his own conscience, not anybody else’s.
“The kid didn’t do nothin’ to you! Why’d you kill him!” Now it was Eddy’s turn to smile. Terry’s face disrupted for only a second from his vile mocking expression.
“Were yah scared? Scared of goin’ to jail? Scared that if anyone found out that you were too scared to drive a car when you were sixteen that they’ll laugh at yah?”
“Shut your shithole you-”
“No!” Eddy’s voice echoed throughout the forest. They were not close enough to town for anyone to hear. They were alone. “I’ve shut my mouth too long for you! You’re nothing! Mom and Dad did everything for you! And you took it all out on me! You lied! You hurt me! And you turned me into you!”
Terry aimed his knife right at Eddy. He stood over him like a monster. “You better move.”
“Eddy...” Ed’s frightened voice called out to him.
“We’re not goin’ anywhere!”
Terry was now standing over Eddy, staring at him with this threatening look. Eddy stared hatefully into his brother's eyes. “Go home and fuck yourself like nobody else will!”
Terry gritted his teeth at his little brother. His knuckles were white from holding the knife so tightly. And Eddy still did not bat an eyebrow.
“Eddy, we should leave,” Ed warned.
“He’s not taking him!”
“This is your last chance!”
Eddy trembled. “You’re just gonna have to kill me, Terry.”
“No problem.”
Right then a blast startled everyone out of their skins. Unbenknowst to the group, people in the town were alerted, also jumping from the noise. Some were alarmed, while others went about with their usual activities.
Turning around Edd was holding the smoking gun in the air. Shaking, he aimed the gun right at Terry. His face was expressionless. Ed, nor Eddy, ever saw their friend like this.
“Don’t you dare touch him,” Edd gritted through his teeth.
For the first time, Terry was scared. He stepped back. Then he tried to regain his tough guy act, sticking his hand out.
“I don’t think you know how to use that, girlfriend,” Terry mocked.
Edd’s fingers hugged the gun barrel tighter as he slowly walked closer, passed Ed and Eddy. “Get out.”
“Come on, gimme the gun. You must have sense in yah! You wouldn’t actually kill me, would yah?”
Edd clicked the gun. “If you don’t get out of here now I will shoot your foul chamber until you see the red fires that’ll take you to hell.”
Terry stared hatefully into all three boys eyes. He looked mocked, shamed, and embarrassed.
“This ain’t over.”
And Terry left.
Finally, they could all take a breath of relief.
“Wow, Double D! I didn’t know you had in yah!” Eddy happily congratulated Edd.
Edd was shaking terribly now, his face pale. Both Ed and Eddy touched his shoulders to relax him. The touch only caused him to audibly gasp, dropping the gun into the dirt. He collapsed onto the ground, crying, afraid.
The friends gathered together in a hug They never let go. They stood together.
