So I say this a lot on reddit, but ill write it again

But firstly, if this is going off of a DNA test: This is why we dont go on blood quantum, among other reasons. Because dna tests just aren't reliable. They are best used as a way to connect with family, and for fun, and maybe for some basic guidance. The other reason BQ shouldn't be used is because its literally a colonialist concept put into action to whittle down native populations by not only turning natives against each other, but also making laws and rules on who is white and who is not. With native people, you weren't native under a certain blood percentage, therefor you were white, therefor one less native person therefor less native culture. For black people it was the 1 drop rule. Anyone that could be traced back to having a black ancestor (1 drop) would be considered black. Different yet similar

Secondly, PoC, alongside racial/ethnic identity is complicated. Its all a social construct, but one we use right now and need safe spaces for specific people. PoC means different things for different people, but the bottom line is how you feel identifying as a person of color.

Do you experience direct racism? meaning racism directed at you specifically. Thats the biggest point of safe spaces for PoC is the connection of racial and ethnic predjudice and racism.

Basically, its a term that won't cover everyone, especially mixed white appearing people. Because this question is asked on reddit constantly, therefor it its obviously a hazy definition.

I dont experience direct racism. I dont consider myself a PoC. But I also don't consider myself exactly white. because I'm not, I'm mixed. My dad could enroll in the Pascua Yaqui Tribe if he wanted to. But again that doesn't make me a person of color. And even if it does I dont personally feel comfortable using it.

Its about knowing where you fit in a conversation and uplifting the voices of those who experience racism. Know your privilege and use it, and also listen.

So the question should be less if you are a person of color, and more of where you fit in your own community and collective communities. Where do you fit amongst white people? Where do you fit amongst native people or black people or asian people?

Not to mention that you can also be an ally within your own community

Being white appearing but having indigenous parents and family can be hard especially if they pass as indigenous more than you. White appearing mixed people have unique experiences, and so do passing mixed people and monoracial people.

You have to look st your options. You can be white and indigenous. You can say you are mixed. You can even say you are white and poc, and you dont owe anyone an explanation.

But also dont hate those that say those things. it can hurt and you can hate them in a way, but understand from their point of view. I cant hate monoracial and poc passing people who say im just white. I also can't say they are wrong because there is no non societal construction that is fact. I could be half and still some people would see me as not native enough. But who says? Colonialism?

I always tell people to look at their other heritage and connect with that first. Most of the time the other half is a 'white' culture like italian or Norwegian or Spanish. But they see it as the default and White, as in association with white people, as in racism, and theres that want to distance yourself from it.

And id you have any ounce of that feeling, work on that first and indulge in the Swedish or Italian or Spanish culture. learn the language. connect with others of that ethnicity. Find pride, not in being white, but in being Swedish/French/etc.

So that when you think of France or the French language you feel family and home, even if you didnt grow up with that. Only then do I think you'll be able to look at a 'identity of color' and not fetishize or try and run away from privilege

I've told this to some people and they eventually came to the idea that being an ally feels best, different than what they originally wanted

you can honor your ancestors by bring an ally to the tribe you come from, without identifying as indigenous. But in your case id say go ahead

but again ask yourself what native means to you. lurk in the subreddit r/NativeAmerican and r/IndianCountry and connect from a difference

Being native, as I'm sure is any identity, is community, culture, language, and a feeling that is unique to you.

You are what native looks like.

I encourage, regardless if blood quantum, people to try and connect and if along the way they realize (before they claim native) that being an ally is how they identify then great.

Just racial/ethnic identity isnt something light. it should be something that makes you think and feel.

people often bring up Rachel Dolezal and Warren but the difference is the lack of struggle. Did they ever once lay awake at night struggling back and forth about if they should call themselves native/ black? did they connect with the community did they drop the identity easily, did they feel remorse?

Id keep typing but this is long enough. But look in the mirror and know that you are enough and that goes for every white appearing/ambiguous mixed person. You belong and you are the identity you say you are.

My dad is 1/4th Yaqui, my grandma is 1/2 Yaqui, my great grandma and grandpa were half Yaqui (Maybe Mayo also), and my great great grandma was a full Yaqui woman who assimilated from Mexico to California possibly bc of the Yaqui war with the Mexican government. My great grandma knew spanish and didn't teach a single word to my grandma. She couldn't be native and she couldn't be mexican.

I am very fortunate that my cousin (who is 1/4th also and looks exactly like me, except he's the one that could enroll) has our tribal name. Not everyone is fortunate

But you can still say you are indigenous, and you can still connect to the community and help your local tribes out.

hello!! it's not possible for someone to be directly descended from Native American peoples and be white. You may be white passing but you can't be white. Passing for white means you have non-white heritage, but you LOOK white (not that you are white). You are a white passing PoC. Your friends don't define who you are, your family and connection to your family's culture does. Also, blood quantification is an ugly tool of colonialism designed to devalue your Native identity, best to get out of the habit of quantifying your indigeneity. It's better for your relationship to your culture. x

Could you explain the whole gem choose their fusions thing work? Like if a lapis and topaz fused and they look like a peridot they’ll just called themselves peridot or if they think they’ll be a bloodstone they’ll form as a bloodstone

Now I’m gonna assume that if you’re asking me you really want to know how I feel so i might get a tad bit passionate! That being said, please let it be known that everyone is entitled to their own headcanons and theories, but this is just what I feel to be “correct”. Okay now get comfy cause this is gonna be a long one!

SO first things first, I’m gonna have to correct you. My headcanon isn’t that gems name their fusion after who they look like. Rather fusions themselves are their own identities based on the components’ relationship who name themselves regardless of who they’re made up of! Of course, now I gotta provide my defense on why I believe this to be true.

(From here on I use the word “you” in a general sense. In no way am I trying to attack, belittle or patronize the person who sent the original question at hand)

What is fusion? Fusion is the combined forms of two or more gems, but it’s also a little bit more. Fusions are representations of the components’ relationship. It has been reiterated upon several occasions that a fusion is more than just the sum of two gems’ parts, yet fans and viewers seem to forget (or maybe ignore?) that fact when creating their own new fusions. They say that a Ruby plus a Sapphire equals a Garnet because that’s the only example we’ve seen. But just because that’s the ONLY fusion of a Ruby and a Sapphire we’ve seen, doesn’t mean that it ALWAYS holds true. If this were the case, then I would have to ask, why exactly is fusion outlawed? If you can accurately predict every time what two gems were going to make no matter the circumstances, then you’d think that Homeworld would have allowed it in the first place. If I was White Diamond and I needed to know the most realistic outcome for a mission, then I would just slap together a Ruby and a Sapphire to get a Garnet who could tell me that information. But it’s because Homeworld outlawed the act entirely that leads me to believe that fusion CANNOT be predicted. 

So that still results in the question of how fusion DOES work? Is there any rhyme or reason, or is it all nonsense? And I’ll admit this IS a difficult question, but I think I have an answer. A fusion’s name, color, and form reflect the complexity of the relationship (and no I don’t mean a fusion that has a bad relationship will look less human because that’s been proven to be untrue). 

Let’s say we have a Sapphire with a gem on her arm and a Ruby with a gem on her head: We’ll call em Bicep and Baldie respectively, for simplicity. Now Bicep and Baldie, don’t get along. In fact, they LOATHE one-another. However we also know a very happily married set of gems Ruby and Sapphire. We know that Ruby and Sapphire are fused all the time, and the fusion identifies herself as Garnet. If Baldie and Bicep were to fuse, give me one reason why they should also be called Garnet? Because they’re both comprised of a Ruby and a Sapphire? But literally EVERYTHING else about the two pairs is different. If Baldie and Bicep hate each other, why should they look, act, or name themselves after anything like the set of gems that love and care about each other? That’s the point, they wouldn’t. Bicep and Baldie’s fusion would represent their own individual identities, and THEIR relationship, not Ruby and Sapphire’s. 

Furthermore, let’s look at two other fusions: Smoky Quartz and Rainbow Quartz. What do they have in common? Well, most obviously, they both identify as Quartzes. Hypothetically, if fusions worked like math equations (i.e. A+B=C) like most viewers claim, then the fusions are as follows: Quartz+Quartz= Quartz, makes sense! Quartz+Pearl= ...Quartz?? Hold the phone, how can that be?

“Oh well it’s because its actually not Quartz+Quartz and Pearl+Quartz! Steven/Rose is a Diamond!”

OHHHH okay lets change it then: So Pearl+Diamond= Quartz, Cool! And Quartz+Diamond= ...Quartz again???? That doesn’t make sense, if A+B=C, and B=/=D, then how can A+D=C?? “It’s because, at the time when Steven and Amethyst first fused, Steven didn’t know he was actually a Diamond!!” Oh really? So, what you’re saying is, the way a gem identifies changes how the fusion ultimately presents themself? Sorta like how, if a Ruby and a Sapphire don’t identify as a fusion of love, they wouldn’t make a Garnet, right??? 

And this is my whole point! If you apply strict rules to how fusion “works” then you set yourself up for disappointment when the canon gems don’t cohere to that system that you placed in your own head!

At the end of the day however, all this canon vs noncanon stuff aside, I create my fusions for fun. And I dont line my fun to be judged based on what others believe is “right or wrong”. I’m allowed to be as creative as I’d like to be as long as I’m not actively hurting anybody, and so are you! Either way if you read through this long spiel, thank you for caring so much about my opinion, and I hope I helped clear things up! I really love plants and flowers in general, however Peonies are one of my many faves!!

Umm yeah I always doodling, but I try not to because I want to be able to focus in class haha.

It probably like 20% coffee and 80% french vanilla cream nfksjfgsbjg sometimes I add a lil milk too

Anything flowery, but i really like sweet pea smell lol. I don’t any candles yet, so I don’t quite know which I like more yet. Soorrryy

Sunset! The colors are soo pretty and like it doesn’t require me to wake up from my sleep lmfao. The transitions of day and night it just so beautiful! and the stars that start peeking through the dark sky!

I don’t wear perfume? I have them at home but in my opinion I feel like if you’ve showered and smell nice why try to mix more scents onto you?? and I don’t really need it? DONT WORRY I AM CLEAN NFJSNJF idk if I make any sense

Umm... Drawing. Showering and putting a face mask afterwards. Painting my nails. It’s more like small things, especially like painting my nails and drawings are things I can’t do often because I try to focus on school, because ik I’m bad at focusing. Sleeping and reminding to just eat, when I get too busy and focused I tend to skip meals. njfkdsnfj s

Autumn and Winter (Ik contradicts with my name) but I love the rain! and cloudy weather! The sound of rain is calming and being inside while hearing the rain is nice. I really love Spring too when the flowers begin to bloom and like it’s a fresh type of feeling when spring hits lol.

Favourite breed of dog?

YO OKAY SO I SAW THIS FB POST ABOUT THIS DOG BEAR AND I WANT A DOG BEAR IDK WHAT THEY’RE CALLED JKFDFHKSF. My dad is a dog breeder as a side business, so I grew up with pitbulls, pocket pits, american bull dogs, frenches, and now ‘exotics’ are the trend atm. 

Do you ever want to be married? If so what colours would you pick for your wedding theme?

Umm yes and no? I’m not sure. If I have an American wedding I like to stick to a traditional white with maybe a peach and light pink here and there, but for sure I would love to do a traditional Hmong wedding.
