Actually OP's advice is very helpful, and I genuinely think it's worth considering. I get how it could be interpreted the way you describe, but I think it's a bad faith argument to say that OP is 'telling disable people to concede that they suck and are wrong all the time.' Instead, we could think of it more like an "I feel" statement. By reframing your apology as 'action â feeling â action' the way OP did, you take ownership of what you did while also helping the other person avoid triggering that response again. This is a lot more helpful than saying 'I have x, so y.'
They also aren't mutually exclusive! If you think that someone being aware of your specific issue would be helpful to you or them in the future, you can make them aware of that without just offloading your apology onto your disorder or disability.
To use the example above, you could easily reframe "Sorry I snapped when you and your friend spoke at the same time, I actually have sensory issues." as "Hey, sorry I snapped at you earlier. I have sensory issues, and when two people are talking to me at once I can get really overwhelmed, which sometimes makes it hard to regulate my feelings. I'm not mad at you, and I'll try to make you aware earlier or remove myself from the situation if I'm getting to that point of overwhelm in the future."
The latter makes for a better apology (the specific situation OP is trying to give advice aboutâsometimes you may not need to apologize, but this post is about when you feel the need to do so) for several reasons. Firstly, it gives a specific triggering action to the other person. You included this in the above example, which is great, but took it out of the revision ("I just hate the sound of your voice"). It's important to recognize that first revision is not including the technique OP is employing here.
Second, it takes ownership over your actions. There are obviously some symptoms of disability that you cannot control, and therefore should not need to apologize for (or at least apologize for in the same way as other actions). That mention of convulsing is a great example, because it's and involuntary physical response. You shouldn't apologize for convulsing unless it hurt the other person, because generally apologies cover actions you intend to do differently from here on out.
But there are other actions that you are responsible for, and that you need to take ownership over. Yelling at someone in OP's post is a great example; RSD may mean you can't control feeling of betrayed or hurt, but it doesn't make you yell at anyone. That is an action you have control over and can change in the future. You have every right to have that feeling but not to attack others, which is what the apology is for.
The reason OP's apology structure is more useful than just explaining symptoms is because it focuses directly on the action you're apologizing for. When you apologize only by telling someone your behavior is a result of your disability, it can make it hard for the other person to respond and shut down further conversation. An apology that focuses on actions instead sets clear expectations for both yourself and the other person going forward, and opens a dialogue about what you can both do to avoid that situation in the future.
Sick list of symptoms bro. Now try humanizing your behavior instead of pathologizing it.

Jayce and the fallacy of the butterfly effect in Arcane's narrative
If Jayce's symbol is the butterfly, then my theory is that we're going into a full "butterfly effect" narrative in Act 2. Either we'll watch it happen, or we'll only see Jayce come out the other side of it changed by the experience, knowing - or more importantly, THINKING he knows - what to do to change the future. Literally, to "defend tomorrow."
tl;dr: Jayce will encounter the butterfly effect in season 2. Viktor and Mel both foreshadowed this in season 1. I think Jayce will fixate on Viktor and will believe that stopping or changing Viktor either in the past or the present - most likely the present - will mean he can save the future. I believe this will lead to an even worse tragedy and may have the same effect as a self-fulfilling prophecy. Ekko's approach to changing the future by sticking closer to the present - considering only tiny increments of time to alter more immediate future outcomes - will be the superior approach. I also think that Jayce attempting to change the future will create the conditions that push Viktor to become the Machine Herald.
One of the most common reactions even the casual viewer had to Arcane season 1 was this: "If [character] had just done this one small thing a little differently, [tragic event] wouldn't have happened!"
Arcane has been called a Greek tragedy for the main reason that because of how well built up the characters' personalities and reasonings are, there's no other way season 1 could have gone. There was no stopping the multiple tragedies that occurred, because with one event leading to another, the chain of seemingly inevitable events goes too far back to identify what one singular event caused everything, what one character made what one decision to put our characters on the terrible paths they walked.
Arcane is about to investigate this idea in its own narrative, and I think that Jayce will be the character to stumble into the flawed idea that you can change one event, or stop one character, and change the future for the better. This is because Jayce struggles with a few very interesting character flaws, one of them being that he believes himself to be the main character, and it is therefore his responsibility to intervene, be a hero, and fix things.
Viktor and Mel both foreshadow Jayce's future encounter with the butterfly effect.
Recall that Viktor said: "There is always a choice."
Jayce sees choices in black and white, believes that he has no other options but to go along with what he's persuaded and pushed into, and acts too boldly with too much power multiple times.
Recall that Mel said: "We can't change what fate has in store for us, but we don't have to face it alone."
Jayce tries to solve big problems on his own, and though he delegates to Enforcers and the like, Jayce relies on his reasoning and his alone to make important decisions if he doesn't simply become persuaded - usually through strong emotions like fear - by other characters. In addition, since Mel is specifically talking about Viktor's plight here, it's worth mentioning that while Jayce did say that he would help Viktor in acts 2 and 3 of season 1, Jayce does wind up leaving Viktor to face his fate alone. When Jayce tries to change that fate in s2 ep1, ep2 shows that only tragedy can come of this as well.
Viktor and Mel's statements here are not contradictory. Viktor makes the point that you can always make a choice. In context, he's literally referring to the classic "secret third option," because given a choice between aggression and passivity, war and surrender, Viktor chooses to defuse the bomb instead. Mel, interestingly, seems to believe that destiny is fixed in a broad sense, and she operates as a politician and diplomat and investor who navigates that line of destiny in the most optimal way possible. In reality, in context, she is referring to the fact that Viktor can't change the way he was born and so he has no way to change his fate and therefore must face it, which is true - she's only missing the information that Viktor actually does have the means to change his illness and his body. Her wisdom still applies however, because he'll have to accept the hand that fate deals him after he makes that choice. Will he face it alone, or not?
There is always a choice, there's even secret third options, because having a fate doesn't mean that you are doomed to make only one possible series of choices. What it does mean is that each choice comes with a hand that fate deals you. It is impossible to know what all of these branching choices and consequences are in advance, and it is just as impossible in hindsight - the branches are too complex and the end outcomes are all equally meaningful, just different. If Arcane season 2 is to be a tragedy, it may show us that each possible outcome is still tragic if you fall for the fallacy of the butterfly effect.
Jayce is counseled by some of the wisest, cleverest characters with the deepest life experiences in Arcane, but he hardly ever takes that counsel to heart. If he does, he still acts on that counsel in flawed ways that have unintended consequences. This will come to a head in season 2.
Viktor and Jayce both have a butterfly following them around in season 1. The butterfly effect refers to one small seemingly insignificant event changing the course of history, and changing that event therefore changes history. Viktor bled over the railing of a Hexgate in season 1:
And Heimerdinger sees what we can only assume is Viktor's blood contaminating (?) the Hexgate in s2 ep3:
This might be the seemingly unimportant "inciting incident" that Jayce (and Heimerdinger and Ekko) settle on as something that should be avoided or erased by changing the past (if they time-travel with Ekko, for example).
I doubt that, if this is what this crew chooses to fixate on, it will be the only event that is considered as something to change. But let's take this and run with it for the sake of discussion.
As silly as it sounds, how do you stop Viktor from allowing his blood to come into contact with the arcane? Stop Viktor's involvement with the Academy entirely? Don't invent Hextech at all? But what if someone else invents Hextech besides Jayce? What if future tragedy befalls Piltover because it didn't invent Hextech?
The possibilities and what-ifs could branch on forever. But because Jayce is who he is, and because his tragedy with Viktor is still raw and recent and frightening, I think Jayce's butterfly effect experience will have to do with Viktor.
My personal prediction is that the timeskip between s2 ep3 and ep4 will be Jayce experiencing a timeline where Viktor, taken over by the Hexcore, brings about an apocalyptic event similar to what Heimerdinger experienced in his past. Either Jayce and co. can't go into the past to change the present, or Heimerdinger and/or Ekko advise strongly against it to avoid a paradox. This will lead to them re-entering the canon Arcane timeline before this apocalypse, but still after the timeskip. Jayce, believing that destroying Viktor and his cult will save the future, and believing that resurrecting Viktor was Jayce's mistake to fix, attacks him. But the consequences don't unfold the way he hopes, because trying to change fate once the cards have already been dealt has led to tragedy before.
The butterfly is a symbol of something other than just the butterfly effect - change, evolution, and rebirth. If the butterfly symbolizes the butterfly effect for Jayce, then I think it has a different meaning for Viktor - the change and rebirth meaning.
I've always found it very interesting that we see a similar-looking butterfly on Progress Day... but made of metal.
Every time Viktor's situation changes, he adapts and evolves. If Jayce attacks him, if his cult is destroyed, if the Hexcore is causing Viktor to decay, if all of these things happen at once - he'll just evolve again, and I think the Machine Herald is the next step. And the Machine Herald will be a triumph for Viktor, but Jayce will believe that he's created something even worse. The resulting feud will be a personal nightmare for both of them.
I think this still allows Viktor to use his own agency to choose to become the Machine Herald (the MH will probably be the "secret third option" that saves Viktor, or there will be a secret third option that ends the feud) while still allowing Jayce to be offended and horrified at whatever the Machine Herald represents or is trying to do in the undercity. Introducing the element of time travel allows Arcane to explore the meta concept of tragedy and fate that season 1 was built on while showing that you can't "solve" a tragedy, because there are other terrible possibilities lurking behind alternate choices. Especially if what you're trying to change is singular people or events and not systems of power.
This is why Ekko's approach with his Z-drive will be superior to Jayce's sweeping attempt at changing the future. Ekko's goal has always been societal change. He creates his own punk society in the undercity, more progressive and successful than anything Vander or Silco ever created, and a better bastion of safety, hope, and progress than what Heimerdinger founded in Piltover. Trying to change systems by going back in time is most likely futile. But taking what Ekko has already built in the Firelights, curing his tree, and fighting for the Firelights' survival bit by bit by optimizing the present with the Z-drive shows that:
It's more worth it to focus on becoming wise (Ekko's mask is an owl) and making choices you won't regret
It's best if you don't face your fate alone (act as a collective and take care of each other)
Consider every option, not just the obvious black and white choices
Maintain and fix what you've already built instead of abandoning it once things get difficult
Adapt as needed if the choices you made lead to dark consequences, and once again, stick together and take care of each other when the bad times do come
That's my Act 2 but, ultimately, my season 2 prediction based on the butterfly symbolism we've already seen. Ekko's involvement is what will give the series the at least partial happy ending that the creators have referred to. I personally don't think that the Viktor/Jayce feud will end quite so well, but maybe, they will still survive.

She remembered the sound of wheels against gravel. Even as a kid, Franco was fastâkicking up dust and stones as he went, all edges and adrenaline. They grew up on the same street, a road that was more dust than pavement, cutting through a small town nobody had ever heard of, deep in the countryside of Argentina. Back then, he raced down that road on a beat-up go-kart that rattled and threatened to fall apart with every turn. But he didnât care. Even at eight years old, Franco could talk of nothing but cars and speed and the shimmering, impossible promise of a life far from here.
She was the one who stood at the end of the road, cheering him on as he came barreling toward her, heart in her throat every time he cut it too close. She told herself thatâs just what friends didâwaited around to see the other one make it back in one piece. But there was more to it, even then. Sheâd never told him, of course. Franco had always been too focused on the next race, the next finish line, to notice much about her that wasnât familiar. It was easier that way. They were friends. That was enough.
Years passed, and with them, his childhood kart became a racing simulator, then an actual car, then a series of wins that only proved what sheâd always knownâthat Franco was going somewhere.
Last year, his parents sold their house so he could go further, could reach another level she couldnât quite see. He moved in with her and her family when he wasnât racing, and for a few months, it was as if they were kids again, laughing late at night, plotting his future as he spilled out every dream heâd ever had. That was the year she started imagining he might finally see her the way she saw him.
But he didnât.
Instead, Franco saw everything she wasnât: the girl from another world, polished and magnetic, with a face and laugh that gleamed like the trophies heâd already started to collect. She caught him, snared him in a way that didnât even seem real.
It was this girlâher name slipped off his tongue so easily when he let itâwho went to the big events with him, who stood beside him when photographers crowded around after his races, a reminder that heâd already begun to belong somewhere else. She wanted to hate her, this stranger who was everything she wasnât, but what good would it do?
It was easy to tell herself she was Francoâs friend. His best friend. The one whoâd been there since the beginning, the one who stayed up with him on those late nights when all his dreams felt heavy enough to drown him. Sheâd learned to wear it like armourâthe friend, the constant, the steady hand on his shoulder when his voice cracked and his confidence faltered.
No one else knew the small things about him, the things that made him human. Like how he had a superstition about not putting on his helmet until the very last second before a race. Or that his favorite thing in the world was the sound of tires on wet pavement, a soft hiss of rain and speed. Or that he used to dream of buying back the house his parents sold and giving them something better.
The nights she couldnât sleep, sheâd replay those memories to herself, like scenes from a film sheâd seen too many times. They were pieces of a person sheâd built up in her mind so completely, so painstakingly, that she sometimes forgot he wasnât hers. Not really.
Now, Franco was leaving again, but this time it was different. The call had come last night, and sheâd been there when he answered it, watching the way his face shifted, lit up with something she hadnât seen since they were kids. Heâd been invited to join a Formula 1 teamâa chance to race against the best, a dream finally realised.
And sheâd been the first person he told. âIâm in,â Franco had whispered to her after he hung up, his voice hoarse with disbelief. âIâm actually in.â
Heâd pulled her into a hug, and for a fleeting moment, she let herself believe this moment was for her tooâthat she was a part of the dream. But when he finally let go, she could already feel him slipping away, his mind racing miles ahead, far beyond anything she could reach.
And now here they were, standing on the same dusty road theyâd grown up on, only this time the road was empty. She could almost see his silhouette against the horizon, an outline that belonged to no one, not even her.
âSo⌠this is it, huh?â she murmured, trying to keep her voice steady, her hands stuffed deep into her jacket pockets. She knew this was her job now: to be strong, supportive, even as she felt her chest tightening with everything sheâd left unsaid.
Franco glanced over at her and smiled, that careless, easy grin sheâd fallen in love with a thousand times. âYeah. This is it.â
There was a part of her that wanted to say something, to tell him what it felt like to lose him, to have spent all these years beside him only to watch him walk away. But she didnât, couldnât. Because he needed her to be his friend, his rock. And thatâs exactly what she would be, until the moment he disappeared from sight.
âYouâll be amazing out there,â she said softly, swallowing hard against the ache in her throat.
âThanks,â Franco replied, his gaze drifting to the horizon, to whatever was waiting for him. He didnât see her watching him, didnât notice the way she tried to memorise every detail of his face, the way she gripped the fabric of her jacket so tightly her knuckles turned white.
Because thatâs what she was: the person who stayed behind, the person who would cheer for him no matter how far he went, even if it took him far beyond her reach.
His first race was in Monza.
And Franco had made sure sheâd be there.
The roar of engines echoed across Monza, the air thick with the metallic scent of fuel and adrenaline. She stood just outside the paddock, watching the mechanics scurry between cars, drivers in their fireproof suits weaving through a sea of engineers and cameras. It was Francoâs first Formula 1 race, the one heâd been chasing since the days theyâd spent on that dusty street back home. Heâd called her a week ago, saying heâd arranged for her ticket, that she had to be there, that it wouldnât feel right without her.
She glanced down at her pass, fumbling with it between her fingers, her eyes darting over the crowds, wondering if sheâd see him. But instead, she saw herâFrancoâs girlfriend, standing just a few paces away, a beacon in the busy paddock with her polished, perfect smile.
She thought about turning around, slipping into the crowd where she could cheer Franco on from a distance, as sheâd always done. But then Francoâs girlfriend caught her eye, waved her over with an easy, welcoming smile, and suddenly it was too late.
âHi! Youâre Francoâs best friend, no?â she said brightly, as if sheâd been waiting for this meeting. âFrancoâs told me all about you.â
She managed a smile, trying not to let her surprise show. âNice to meet you,â she replied, her voice steady but her heart churning. This girl looked so effortlessly perfectâtoo perfect, really. She wanted to find something in her to resent, a crack, a flaw, some hint that would make her presence easier to bear. But the girlâs smile was warm, even gentle, and there wasnât a hint of cruelty behind her eyes.
âYou know,â she continued, turning to look at the track where the cars were being readied. âFranco always talks about how youâve been there from the start. He says he wouldnât be here without you.â
It was a sentiment sheâd waited years to hear, but hearing it now, coming from someone else, made it feel empty, hollow. She nodded politely. âHeâs worked so hard for this. I just⌠wanted to support him however I could.â
The girl looked at her, a spark of admiration in her eyes. âThatâs really special. I think it means a lot to him, having someone whoâs known him for so long.â She hesitated, her fingers twisting a ring on her hand. âI think heâs planning to introduce me to his family soon.â
A prickle of something sharp and painful settled in her chest. She managed to keep her face composed, even as the words sank in. âThatâs great,â she said, injecting her voice with encouragement. âThat sounds really important to him.â
The girl smiled, her gaze drifting as if she could see the future taking shape right in front of her. âYeah⌠he said he wanted to wait until weâd been together for a year. Heâs so thoughtful like that, you know? He really wants things to be right before introducing me to his family.â She looked at her, a touch of gratitude in her expression. âI think he got that from youâfrom seeing how much his family means to you.â
It was a kind thing to say, too kind. She wanted to hate her for it, but she couldnât. There was nothing false about the way this girl looked at her, no jealousy or possessiveness. She was just⌠nice. The kind of nice that made her ache with the unfairness of it all, because it made it impossible to hate her, even though she desperately wanted to.
âWell, his family will love you,â she said, meaning it even as the words felt like they were tearing something fragile inside her. âHe deserves to be happy.â
The girl gave her a soft, almost sympathetic smile, a smile that made her wonder if maybe she already knewâif she could see right through her, if she understood the look in her eyes, the one she tried so hard to hide.
As the engines started up in the distance, the girl reached out and gave her hand a gentle squeeze. âThank you,â she said, her voice warm. âFor being there for him, for being his friend. I can tell heâs lucky to have you in his life.â
She returned the smile, feeling a heaviness settle deep within her. Franco was lucky, that was trueâbut not in the way sheâd once dreamed he might be. He had everything now: the career, the future, the love of a woman who deserved him in ways she never could.
And as the cars roared to life on the track, she stood there beside his girlfriend, feeling like a silent ghost on the edges of his new world. She would cheer for him, just as she always had, but now she knew exactly where she stoodâat a distance, a quiet fixture in his past, cheering him on from the shadows as he sped toward a future that had no place for her.
The race had ended hours ago, and the hotel was hushed, the lights dimmed in the halls. She was alone in her room, her suitcase half-packed, clothes folded neatly on the bed. Sheâd changed her flight back to Argentina; she would be gone by morning.
The evening had been a whirlwindâFranco finishing in P12 on his debut race, his crew and his girlfriend embracing him, his face beaming in a way sheâd only ever dreamed of seeing up close. Sheâd stood in the background, clapping politely, just another face in the crowd, happy for him but feeling her heart splinter with each cheer.
A quiet knock broke her thoughts. She looked up, heart catching in her throat. Franco was standing in the doorway, his face lit with a warm smile.
âHey,â he said, stepping inside, his hands in his pockets. âI was hoping youâd still be up.â
âYeah, just⌠packing,â she murmured, glancing at the clothes on her bed. âIâve got an early flight back.â
He frowned, like he hadnât expected her to be leaving so soon. âI thought youâd stay a bit longer,â he said, a hint of disappointment in his voice. âIt meant a lot to me that you were here, you know. Iâm not sure I could have done it without you.â
She swallowed, trying to muster up a smile. âIâm proud of you, Fran. Really. You deserve all of this.â
He gave a modest shrug, his usual humility shining through. âItâs crazy, right? Like, it still doesnât feel real.â
She nodded, unsure of what to say next, her hands clenching as she watched him, the words fighting to break free. But before she could speak, he went on, his face lighting up with excitement.
âOhâand I wanted to tell you. Over the summer break, Iâm planning to bring my girlfriendââ he gestured to the wall, where his girlfriend was probably just sitting in their shared roomââback to Argentina. Sheâs going to meet my family. I think theyâll love her.â
The words hit her like a punch to the gut. She felt herself unraveling, her heart breaking open. She couldnât hold it in any longer.
âWhy her?â she whispered, her voice barely audible.
Franco blinked, looking at her, startled. âWhat do you mean?â
âWhy her, Franco?â She repeated, her voice trembling, louder this time. âWhy not me? What is it about me that you donât find appealing? Am I too loud? Too⌠different? Do I not fit into your world somehow?â Her voice cracked, the weight of her words finally spilling out. âWhat is it about me that you donât love, that you love about her?â
For a moment, he just stared, taken aback, as if he was seeing her for the first time, really seeing her. But his eyes were filled with confusion, like he was trying to make sense of what she was saying.
âWaitââ he started, his voice halting, uncertain. âI⌠I didnât know you feltââ
She cut him off, her voice fierce, raw. âI loved you first, Franco.â
He went silent, the words settling between them like stones in water, sinking deeper and deeper.
âWhat?â he whispered, his voice almost as quiet as hers had been.
âI loved you first,â she repeated, her voice shaking. She could feel the tears gathering, but she didnât want to cry, not now, not here. âSince we were kids, since you were that crazy kid racing down dirt roads, I loved you. Iâve been there every step, every race, every victory, every failure. I was the one who held your dreams when they felt too heavy to carry. I loved you first.â
She watched him, waiting, hoping for some sign of understanding, some glimmer of the love sheâd imagined so many times. But his eyes were wide with shock, his face torn between pity and discomfort.
He shook his head slowly, the words seeming to catch in his throat before he finally managed to say them. âBut⌠I love her.â
The words were a knife, sharp and relentless, cutting through the last fragments of hope sheâd held on to.
She let out a hollow, broken laugh, her vision blurring as she looked away, unable to meet his eyes. âI know,â she whispered. âI know you do.â She took a shaky breath, her voice trembling with a rawness she couldnât contain. âBut it doesnât make it hurt any less.â
For a moment, they stood there in silence, the weight of years pressing down between them. She could see the guilt etched into his expression, his mouth opening as if he wanted to say something to make it better. But there was nothing he could sayânothing that could change the reality that he had chosen someone else, someone who wasnât her.
âI never meant to⌠I didnât want to hurt you,â he said softly, reaching out as if to comfort her, but she stepped back, her arms wrapping around herself protectively.
âItâs fine,â she said, forcing the words out, feeling them scrape against her throat. âI⌠I just needed you to know. I needed you to know that I was here, that Iâve always been here. But nowâŚâ She trailed off, her voice breaking, the words sheâd held for so long finally running dry.
She looked at him one last time, memorising the shape of his face, the boy she had loved and lost long before he ever realised. Then sat back down on the floor and continued packing, folding each piece of clothing and putting it away in silence, each one a silent goodbye.
When she noticed he still hadnât left, that he was just watching him, she looked up at him. âI hope she makes you happy, Franco,â she whispered, her voice barely a breath. âReally. I hope she gives you everything youâve ever dreamed of.â
She looked back down not wanting to catch Francoâs look of pity and closed her suitcase as he walked out of her room.
Walking out of her life for what felt like forever.
It was the peak of summer, the air heavy with heat and the scents of wildflowers and sun-baked earth drifting through the open kitchen window. She was sitting at the table, picking absently at a bowl of sliced fruit, half-listening as her mother hummed while tidying up, when her mother paused and gave her a look she couldnât quite decipher.
âI almost forgot to mention,â her mother said, wiping her hands on a towel, âFrancoâs coming back to town soon. Said heâll be here next week with his girlfriend, so they can meet his family.â
She looked down, letting the words sink in, feeling a familiar tightness bloom in her chest. She hadnât spoken to Franco in weeks. Not since that night in Monza. Not since sheâd finally let herself say all the things sheâd bottled up for years, only to walk away feeling like sheâd left a part of herself behind.
âOh,â she murmured, keeping her tone as light as she could. âThatâs⌠thatâs good. His parents will be thrilled to meet her.â
Her mother looked at her carefully, her gaze soft but probing, as if she could sense the ache that lingered beneath her daughterâs casual words. âI thought maybe youâd be excited too,â her mother ventured, her voice gentle. âItâs been a long time since youâve seen him.â
She forced a small smile, looking down at her hands as she fiddled with her napkin. âActually, I was thinking about going to Buenos Aires for a bit. Just a week or two with TĂa Blanca. Iâve been meaning to go see her.â
Her mother tilted her head, her expression somewhere between sympathy and exasperation. âYou canât keep running from this, mi amor,â she said, her voice tender but firm.
Her shoulders tensed, and for a moment, she didnât know what to say. She knew her mother was right; every time she thought about seeing Franco, the old wound seemed to ache again, still raw, still fresh, no matter how many miles or weeks lay between them. But she wasnât ready to face him yet. Not when the sight of him with someone else would only reopen everything sheâd been trying so hard to let go of.
âI know I canât keep running,â she said finally, her voice barely a whisper, her fingers twisting the napkin in her lap. âBut I can now. And I can cope with that.â
Her mother sighed softly, reaching out to place a warm hand over hers. âMi amor, one day, youâre going to have to stop protecting yourself from the things that hurt you. Itâs the only way to truly move forward.â
She nodded, her throat tight, unable to meet her motherâs eyes. She knew her mother was right. But all she could think of was that moment in Monza, the echo of Francoâs wordsâBut I love her. Words that still stung like salt on an open wound, even now.
âMaybe one day,â she whispered, more to herself than to her mother. But for now, Buenos Aires felt like the safest place to beâfar from the memories, far from the impossible hope she still carried in her heart.
Her mother squeezed her hand gently before letting go, her silence filled with understanding. âThen go,â she said, with a small, knowing smile. âBut youâll know when itâs time to come home.â
And as she sat there, her heart heavy with everything she couldnât say, she only hoped her mother was right.
A few days later, everything was sorted and she was ready to go to her auntâs place.
She swung her bag over her shoulder, taking a deep breath as she stepped out of the house, the warm morning sun casting long shadows across the familiar dirt road. She was just two steps away from the car when she spotted itâFrancoâs car, parked at the edge of the drive.
Her heart lurched, her mind scrambling, and she muttered under her breath, âNo, no, no⌠please, not now.â She moved quickly toward her own car, fumbling for her keys as if speed alone could make her invisible. But before she could open the door, she heard his voice behind her.
âOye, there you are!â he called, a wide, relieved smile on his face as he jogged over, his voice bright with the kind of joy she hadnât heard from him in years. âI was hoping Iâd run into you before you left. Itâs been too long.â
She barely managed to keep her face neutral, clutching her bag as if it could shield her. âYeah, well, Iâve got to get on the road. Donât want to get stuck in traffic,â she said, opening the boot to toss her bag inside. She avoided looking at him, focusing on the small tasksâclosing the boot, brushing off her hands, reaching for the door.
He took a step closer, his hand resting on the car door as if to keep her from leaving. âIâve missed you,â he said, his tone softening. âYou⌠you didnât answer my calls after Monza. I didnât know if⌠I just wanted to see you.â
She swallowed hard, glancing away as she forced herself to stay calm, the last words she wanted to hear sitting heavy between them. âThatâs great, Franco,â she said, barely meeting his gaze, her words quick and mechanical. âBut I really should get going.â
âWaitââ He looked at her, his expression slipping from surprise to concern. âCan we talk? Please?â
But she was already climbing into the car, her hands gripping the steering wheel as she turned the ignition. She couldnât bear to stay, couldnât bear to let him see her break again. âTake care, Franco,â she said, her voice barely above a whisper as she closed the door.
Before he could say another word, she pulled out, the tires kicking up dust as she drove away. In the rearview mirror, she saw him standing in the drive, watching her go, his face a mix of confusion and something close to sadness. She looked away, swallowing the lump in her throat as she focused on the road ahead.
But the further she drove, the harder it became to ignore the weight of all the memories tied to each familiar street and turn. Every signpost, every curve of the road reminded her of himâtheir childhood spent racing bikes and kicking up dust, lazy afternoons wandering these streets, dreaming of the future he was now living.
Tears blurred her vision as she drove, the memories rushing in like floodwaters, filling her mind with images sheâd tried so hard to push aside: Franco at fourteen, laughing as he beat her in yet another race down the hill; Franco, younger still, sharing a quiet moment in the field just beyond town, his eyes bright with the dreams theyâd both carried.
She wiped at her eyes, her heart aching as each memory pulled her further into the past, a past where theyâd been inseparable, a past where she hadnât yet realised what loving him truly meant. She could almost hear his laughter, feel his presence beside her, as if he were still the boy sheâd known, before life had pulled them down different paths.
By the time she reached her auntâs building in Buenos Aires, the weight of the drive had started to lift, the cityâs pulse a welcome distraction from the quiet countryside. She parked and took a moment to gather herself, feeling the ache from earlier settle into something softer, something that no longer felt as urgent or raw.
Just as she opened the car door, a familiar voice called out.
âÂĄMira! Is that really you?â
She looked up, startled, and felt her heart lift slightly. Standing by the curb was Angelo, an old friend from summers in the city. He had the same easy smile, his hair a little longer, his build a little broader, but his presence felt exactly as she rememberedâwarm and solid.
âAngelo!â She smiled, the weight on her shoulders easing just a little more.
He walked over, giving her a friendly hug before reaching into the car to help with her bag. âLet me help. Youâre here for a visit?â
âJust two weeks,â she replied, trying to keep her voice steady as she glanced up at the familiar apartment building, a place that held a lifetime of summers, laughter, and memories untouched by the pain sheâd left behind.
âWell, then,â he said, grinning as he hefted her bag easily, âweâve got time to catch up.â His tone was light, but there was something else in his eyes, a quiet warmth that made her feel unexpectedly hopeful.
She followed him up the steps, comforted by his familiarity and the steady, unhurried way he moved, like he knew every corner of this building as well as she did. As they reached her auntâs door, she felt her pulse slow, steadied by his presence.
The door opened before they could knock, her auntâs familiar face breaking into a radiant smile. âThere you are, mi niĂąa!â She hugged her tightly, then turned to Angelo with a knowing smile. âAnd look who brought you all the way to the door! Angelo, youâre a sweetheart.â
He grinned, shrugging. âAnything for your family, seĂąora.â
They all laughed, and for the first time in months, she felt a genuine ease settle over her, as if sheâd left more than just a town behindâsheâd left the weight of everything sheâd been carrying.
As she glanced between her aunt and Angelo, the ache that had gripped her chest all day faded. The streets of Buenos Aires were bright outside the door, warm and humming with life. She breathed it in, feeling herself begin to let go of everything that had haunted her on that long drive.
Because maybe now that she was here, she could forget Franco.

Also: Building community is not just an outreach tool. It is a tool of keeping ourselves safe and keeping resources available to all. Offering things on social media like rides to abortion clinics, or diy hrt, or anything else that is perhaps not-totally-legal in all places, is not a great strategy. For one, you shouldn't trust strangers on the internet with information that sensitive, so those you are offering those services to would do well not to trust you. If you want to meaningfully contribute to providing things such as the above, or even more legal-but-logistically-complex things like feeding a large number of people, handing out narcan, etc, you need to organize in person. How do you organize in person? By meeting people in person, aka building community.
If this is your goal, you can start with people who are very similar to you! You don't have to start by reaching out to Alt Right David or even Annoying Uncle Bill - you can start by going to a local show or a group that meets at the library or hanging out with your D&D group when you're not actively playing D&D. Then, you have friends that you can rely on to take care of you, and who you might be able to plan some cool mutual aid shit with. I've been working on building community for awhile, at first not intentionally and lately very intentionally, and here's how I met the group of friends I started a monthly free store with:
1. Met Friend A at a choir thing since I like to sing and was looking for friends after moving somewhere new. Friend A ultimately left choir but we stayed friends, and at one point I told Friend A I'm ace.
2. Friend A said, "oh you'd love my friend B, who's also ace! She's doing a comedy show, let's go see her perform together and then you can meet her!"
3. Friend B and I become friends, and start a local peer support group for aspec people, based mostly on Friend B's existing communities and our sheer determination.
4. Fast forward a year and a half, Friend C comes to our aspec peer support group and I become friends with her.
5. Friend C and I are talking about activism, and Friend C says a lot of the things I'm interested in aligns with what Friend D has talked to her about. Friend C introduces me to Friend D.
6. Independently, I have been building a community space on my street, in the rough neighborhood of where Friend C, Friend D, and I live.
7. Friend D and I want to create a solarpunk future but decide to start small. Friend D ropes in several of his friends, one of whom I happen to know from the community space mentioned in 6.
8. This group of friends runs a free store once a month in the community space, open for all to donate to and all to attend. As we find out about others who are doing/want to do similar things, we try to join forces. In this way we've expanded from just a free store to a free store + clothing swap, and we're only on our third time hosting it.
All of these friends are lefty, and all of them are queer in some way or another. The free store friends are explicitly anarchist, like me. I think OP's point is useful for deradicalization and for growing the movement, but if you are alone and you are scared, encouragement to build community is just as much about finding your people in person as it is about forming coalitions with those different in you.
Another important note is that finding people like you should be a starting point, not an ending point. The goal of this is not to find friends, though that's a good start. The goal is to build dual power, which is done by working together with others and having open doors to join the movement. Once you've found some friends or communities, work to ensure that they are open to all, that you are reaching the people who most need the work you are doing, and that you are not simply making yourself feel good or just having a good time with your friends.
Activism is not cold-calling.
Activism is not cold-calling, and this is critically important to understand.
I'm seeing a lot of posts on here about 'building bridges' and 'finding community,' and then (extremely valid) response posts saying "BUT HOW??" And I'm going to explain something that can be very counter-intuitive: there is strategy involved in community.
As a longtime volunteer labour organizer, Iâve taken and taught many trainings on the strategy of talking. Something that surprises a lot of people is the very first thing you do in a union campaign. You sit down with your organizing committee, take out pen and paper, and literally map it out. You draw a physical map of the workplace: where are the entrances, exits, break rooms, supervisor offices. Essentially, âwhere is it safe to have a union conversation.â Then you draw another physical chart of your coworkers. You sort out who is union-friendly, openly hostile to unions, or somewhere in the middle, and then you plan out very deliberately and carefully who talks to whom and in what order.
Consider: If Vocally Leftist Jane walks up to Conservative David and says "hey what do you think about unions," David is going to shut down immediately. He's not inclined to listen to Jane. But if Jane talks to Moderate Jason and brings him into the fold, then Jason is a far more effective strategic choice to talk to David, and David may actually hear him out without an instant reaction.
IMPORTANT CAVEAT: If Conservative David turns out to be Alt-Right David, and could be dangerous to follow organizers, we write him off. We are not trying to reach Alt-Right David. We are trying to reach Conservative David, who may actually be persuaded to find solidarity with other employees as fellow workers. Jason is a safe scout to find out which one he is. It does no one any good if Leftist Jane (or even Moderate Jane who is a visible minority) talks to Alt-Right David and puts herself on his radar. Not only has she done nothing to convince Alt-Right David to join a union - she's probably actively turned him against the idea - but now she's also in danger and the entire campaign is at risk. NOBODY WANTS THIS. Jane was NOT a hero for doing this. The organizing committee was foolish and enacted a terrible strategy to everyone's detriment.
Where you can make a difference is with people who will listen to you. You having a conversation with your well-meaning but clueless Centrist Democrat Auntie, and maybe gently helping her understand some things the media has been glossing over, is way more strategically useful than you marching up to MAGA Neighbour You've Met Once and trying to "build community" or "understand" them. They don't care. They're impervious, dangerous, and cruel. But maybe your beloved auntie will think about what you said, and then talk to her friend Anna who IDs as "fiscally conservative" but didn't vote because she can't bring herself to get on board with Trump. Then perhaps Anna talks to her brother Nic who has MAGA leanings but isn't all the way there yet. Proto-MAGA Nic would not have listened to you, nor would he have listened to Centrist Democrat Auntie, but he might absorb some of what his sister is saying.
This is not a cop-out or an echo chamber. This is you spending your time and energy strategically and safely. You are not a useful activist to anyone if youâre dead. Anyone who is telling you to hurl yourself directly at MAGA assholes like cannon fodder has no understanding of the strategy behind community building, and you should feel comfortable writing them off.
Last point: If you are tired, emotionally devastated, and/or in danger: take a break. This post is for people who would feel better jumping into action, not for people who are too overwhelmed to even think about it right now. You are worth so much even if youâre not actively Doing Activism, and your rest is worth more than âa break period so you can recharge and Do More Activism.â We all deserve the individual dignity of being worthy of comfort, rest & safety just on the basis of being human, outside of whatever we're doing for others' benefit. To deny ourselves that dignity is to devalue ourselves, and thatâs the absolute last thing any of us should be doing right now.

Viktor's Sequence in S2's Opening, What It Symbolizes & What it Means for the Rest of S2
So Act I dropped and it's greatâLots of plot points to go over in the futureâbut for now I want to deep dive into some interesting things I noticed about the intro, particularly found in Viktor's portion of it.
The opening is full of interesting symbolism and representations of Arcane's characters in their clearest, "purest" form (pure as in lacking impurities, not as in morally pure).
There's a lot of neat tidbits hidden in the opening, but I particularly want to dive into Viktor's segment because i am biased as hell his shots have some potentially incredible depth to them that I'd like to dissect.
A lot of that potential comes from what exactly the mask represents, which I'm arguing is not a symbol of Viktor's Machine Herald identity.
Hear me out.
Starting off with his first shot: we see Viktor reaching for the mask. Instantly after he makes contact we cut to a shot of Viktor holding the mask and considering it. He even turns it a little as he looks at its face, as if he's not quite sure what it is.
These shots are telling the story of S1 Viktor's experimentation with the Hexcore, particularly the research Viktor conducted AFTER his blood mixed with it...and yet, the mask does not represent the Hexcore itself, so how can it be telling that story?
I've seen a lot of theories of what exactly is the catalyst of Hextech's corruption into the Anomaly, and the most popular one at the moment seems to be that Blood + Hextech + Abuse of Magic = Anomaly/Angry Arcane. This theory seems to stem from the fact that not only did the Hexcore react to Viktor's blood, but so also did the Hexgates themselves.
Corruption found on the base floor of the Hexgates. There's a ceiling to this room, so there's very little chance that this is literally where Viktor's blood landed, but I do think his blood's presence in the Hextech-charged room triggered a chain reaction with the rest of the Hexgate. We may even see this happen in a flashback.
So, assuming these intro shots are representative of the moment when Viktor reached out and touched the Hexcore, and later when he's examining it more closely/experimenting with it, why don't these shots represent the Hexcore itself?
Because Viktor isn't making a move to put on the mask. He's just looking at it, thinking about it, considering what it is. Viktor absolutely made a move to use the Hexcore in S1âand killed his assistant in the process.
So what is he "looking" at?
I believe the mask is representative of the Arcane itself, and, by extension, its hold on Viktor's mind.
He's examined the Arcane and played with its propertiesâunsure of what to really make of it, but he never had the chance to take on the full potential of it. Once Sky died he realized that something was very wrong. Maybe he didn't realize how wrong, but he definitely concluded that this form of magic needed to be destroyedâthus the "Promise me" scene.
If the Blood + Hextech + Magic Overuse = the Arcane lashing out theory is true...then the moment that Viktor's blood mixes with the Hexcore is the moment it crosses the line from a mindless device to a tool of the Arcane.
This idea is only strengthened by Viktor's next shotâthe mask being held to his face.
Viktor himself is not holding the maskâJayce is. This shot depicts how Jayce used the Hexcore to save Viktor's lifeâvery much against Viktor's will on multiple frontsâreplacing Viktor's identity with a false one.
Jayce is putting the mask of the Arcane onto Viktor's face, hiding his true features, his emotions, his personality. The mask wears a flat, serene expression, reflecting Viktor's forcibly suppressed emotions in this Actâas we see with how Viktor interacted with Jayce when he woke up. As cathartic as that scene may have been, Vik was acting wildly out of character, and I sincerely think that was on purpose.
It's difficult to tell in this lighting but Vik's eyes are also their typical golden-amber in this shot. That would only make sense if this is symbolic of Viktor's true character being concealed by a false identity. It would make no sense to use Vik's amber eyes in a sequence meant to symbolize his new identity being concealed by the literal Machine Herald mask.
The final shot is not much different from the last one, but really drives home this comparison and the idea that the mask represents the Arcane, not Viktor's MH arc. The same mask is worn by numerous others, all slowly fading into view.
These faceless people are the Church of the Gloriously Evolved, all represented by the same exact mask that Viktor is poised to take on.
And yet, the mask is never fully put onto Viktor's face, unlike Viktor's followers. He can still back away. He can still hesitate.
So what does this all mean for S2?
It means that this ^ is not Viktor. This is a man either heavily under the influence of (or being fully controlled by) the Arcane.
And it also means that this trancelike state is not Viktor's endgame. I sincerely doubt this husk of who Viktor used to be will end up being the calculating antihero that is the Machine Herald.
Another point for the theory that Viktor's mental humanity will come back to him is the fact that Vik's in-game MH mask has golden eyes, mirroring Viktor's real eyes, not the lifelessâalbeit shiftingâgray of Viktor's current irises. Assuming Riot will be keeping this iconic part of Vik's design, that signals a change back from the emotionless puppet Viktor seems to be right now.
But I suppose we'll know for certain by the finale.

The House Of Piastri : ĚĚâ Oscar Piastri
summary: the one where you and oscar move into a place that you can finally call your own
âWelcome to the house of Piastri!â Oscar chimed, turning the key and opening up the place that was finally yours. âOur very first home,â Oscar grinned, throwing his arm across your shoulders, pulling you in.Â
It was far from perfect, there were moving boxes everywhere, little decoration, and many of the rooms were uncoordinated, but it was your place. Just for you and Oscar. There was no one else around, nothing to interrupt you both anymore.Â
âWhere do we begin?â You laughed, pressing your fingers to your temple. âWhat have we signed ourselves up for?â You asked Oscar, glancing across at him. His smile was wide, a lot more optimistic than you were at the adventure that you had ahead of you.Â
When Oscar suggested the two of you think about finding your own place after moving to Monaco, you jumped at the chance. It was a big deal for you both, having only ever lived separately before, but after leaving home in order to support Oscar, you knew you couldnât be alone.Â
âDoesnât it just feel right though?â Oscar whispered, pressing a kiss to the top of your head. âI can already see how amazing itâs going to look, even if it doesnât look that way right now.âÂ
Your head nodded in agreement with Oscar, no doubt that it was a place youâd feel happy calling your home. You and Oscar had so many plans, youâd spent hours awake at night talking through your ideas, searching online for some inspiration of what youâd like.Â
âThe view is beautiful too,â you hummed, taking a few steps forward across the room to where your balcony was. âI donât think Iâll tire of looking out here, itâs beautiful.âÂ
âAlmost as beautiful as you,â Oscar chimed, watching as your eyes rolled. âWhat? Iâm only being honest; it doesnât quite compare to you.âÂ
Oscar took your hand again, leading you across to where the sofa was just beside the balcony. You sat against his side, back pressed against his chest as Oscar rested his head on top of yours. It was about the only piece of furniture that you had built and ready to go, having taken most of the day to get it delivered and set up, but it left you both excited for all the hard work that was to come. Â
It felt like a dream as you looked around the apartment, neither you or Oscar could quite believe that you were finally there, after months of planning and waiting around.Â
âImagine how beautiful this is going to be soon,â Oscar whispered into your ear, âI can see us spending forever here, growing old, maybe even raising a family too.âÂ
Your eyes widened as Oscar spoke, not quite knowing what to say. He felt your body tense up, worried that maybe heâd said the wrong thing, got too ahead of himself in amongst all of the excitement of moving in.Â
Oscar mumbled an apology across to you. âI didnât mean to say that, itâs just a maybe one day kind of thing. I guess Iâm just excited for the future now that weâre finally here.âÂ
It wasnât that you were scared, but youâd never really heard Oscar talk about your future plans before. You were both so young, and had so much time ahead of you, although you knew most of your time now was going to be spent building, decorating, and trying to get your home look a little more homely. Â
âDonât be sorry,â you smiled up at Oscar, âthereâs no need to be sorry. I like that youâre thinking about these sorts of things. Forever is a long time though; we donât know where the future is going to take us.âÂ
âIâd live anywhere as long as I had you with me,â Oscar mused, âIâd live in a rubbish bin as long as you were there, even if you would end up smelling a bit.âÂ
âMoving in has really got you thinking about things, hasnât it?âÂ
Oscar nodded, kissing against the top of your head. âI guess moving in with you has made me so happy, Iâm just excited now for whatâs going to come next.âÂ
âIâll give you a clue...a heck of a lot of painting,â you teased.Â
It was going to take many hours to get the apartment as you wanted it, but you and Oscar knew that together youâd get it done. You didnât want the easy option when it came to finding your home, but even this was a harder challenge than either of you could imagine.Â
âThink about all the memories that weâre going to make here,â Oscar spoke, âweâll be able to have friends over, family can stay when they visit, and just stay here together too.âÂ
It was a big move, not only had you found a new city, but youâd found a new country too. Luckily for you, many of the other drivers who were already out there had been more than willing to help you out, offering their services whenever you needed them.Â
âI think once weâre unpacked and decorated, Iâll feel happier, your mum would be mortified if she knew we were living here with the state of this place right now,â you replied.Â
âShe canât wait to visit,â Oscar laughed, âI think she might be more excited than us about this.âÂ
Everyone around you couldnât wait to see you move in together, you were inseparable at the best of times and it was only a matter of time. Your parents, and Oscarâs, especially had pushed you to move in, desperate to see you in a place you could call your own.Â
âItâs going to be crazy, but thereâs no one else Iâd like to move in with and decorate my first home alongside.âÂ
Your head nodded in agreement with Oscar, as terrifying as it was, you were beyond excited too. Your vision was clear, and one thing you were absolutely confident of was the fact that you were absolutely going to love living there, especially with Oscar there too.Â
âYou know, when all of this is done, weâll be able to sit here and think about how lucky we are.âÂ
Your head tilted back to look up at Oscar, âI already feel lucky enough as it is. Youâre here, and weâre in Monaco, what could be better than that?âÂ
âI really do appreciate you moving all the way out here to support me,â Oscar whispered, ânot many people would move across the world for their partner. Itâs a huge sacrifice to make, I just hope that itâs worthwhile being here for you.âÂ
âItâs worth it, wherever you go, I go,â you replied, reminding him of the promise that you made to each other. âAnyway, Monaco is definitely the place that feels like home now too.âÂ
Oscar glanced down with a smile, âthereâs nowhere else Iâd rather be than here with you right now. I think I could get used to living here, with you.âÂ
âI agree, this is beyond anything that I could have ever dreamed of.âÂ
âItâs not just an apartment anymore, itâs our home,â Oscar said, âa place we can finally call our own.âÂ
âThe house of Piastri, itâs perfect.âÂ

Pairing: JJ Maybank x reader
Summary: After returning to OBX, after the events of the past four years have cooled off, JJ realizes it's about time he asks you a very important question.Â
Warning: JJ deserves a happy ending! Season 4 spoilers.

JJ found you out on the dock, leaning over the railing and looking at something in the water. He smiled to himself as he strolled toward you, running his fingers over the ring he stuffed in his pocket.Â
âFind any treasure down there?â JJ asked as he approached you.
You threw him a look over your shoulder. âNot funny,â you replied, but there was a smile on your lips that told him otherwise.Â
The Pogues had rightfully retired from their treasure-hunting days. Too many close calls and they werenât willing to risk it anymore. They didnât need to, not after finally cashing out for the last time. JJ, with your guidance and gentle threats, promised to be responsible with his share this time around. For the first time in his life, he saw a future illuminated brightly ahead of him. He had you, his friends, and even a God-daughter now. While his risky tendencies werenât completely put to bed, he was comfortable where he stood and finally felt like he could relax.Â
All in all, he was happy. But there was still something he had yet to do.Â
He slung an arm around your shoulder, pulling you into his side as you both gazed at the water. As much as he had once enjoyed action and adventure, JJ partially used it as an escape. He felt like he had been running from something his whole life, trying to make sense of why he was the way he was. He used to think that, if he never slowed down, nothing would have the chance to hurt him too much. But then he found a family within his friends and a reason to stop running within you. He didnât need to escape anymore or run. He didnât need to make sense of anything anymore. JJ Maybank finally had everything he had been looking for. His world made sense for the first time, and he had no intention of screwing that up.Â
âYou okay?â you asked softly, reaching up and brushing a hand across his cheek.Â
âYeah, just thinkinâ.â
âUh-oh,â you teased, moving to stand in front of him. You hugged him lightly, peering at him with furrowed brows. âThinkinâ about what?âÂ
JJ leaned forward, resting his forehead against yours. âYou.âÂ
âAnd what about me?â Your breath was warm against his face, competing against the cool breeze off the water. The distant laughter of his friends sounded from up the dock, where they all sat around, eating and cooing at little baby Routledge.Â
The worst years of his life, only peppered with good from his Pogues, felt like lifetimes behind him. All of the pain he experienced faded like his scars. He only had the good parts now, and there wasnât a chance on Earth heâd let them slip away.Â
âI have a question Iâve been meaning to ask you,â JJ said, hesitant not because he was unsure, but because there was still a fear in the far depths of his mind that youâd leave him. It was stupid, you had told him that a million and three times, but he couldnât help the faint voice in the back of his head pestering him in a whisper.Â
You silently waited for him to continue. As he worked up the courage, he closed his eyes for just a second, picturing the same little dream heâd created in his head not long after meeting you.Â
âWeâve got a pretty good thing goinâ, huh?â he started.Â
A breathy laugh fell from your lips. âIâd say so.âÂ
âRight, and I, um, I donât really want it to end, you know?âÂ
You leaned forward and pressed a quick kiss to his nose. âI donât plan on it ending, JJ. Itâs you and me, remember?âÂ
He did; he remembered the promise you made not long after you first met. It started off as a pack between friends, but it morphed into something deeper. You and him. If he had anything, he had that to hold on to.Â
âYeah,â he whispered, reaching into his back pocket and pulling out the ring he had stolen a while back with the intention of, one day, slipping it on your finger. Leaning back from you, he held up the ring between two fingers, letting the dainty silver shine in the growing moonlight. âYou and me. Forever, maybe?âÂ
It took a moment for realization to dawn on you, but it struck with force. Your eyes blew wide, and your mouth fell open in a humorous and bewildered laugh. âAre you asking me to marry you?âÂ
JJ nodded, sheepishly using his free hand to scratch the back of his neck. âI probably should have gotten down on one knee, right? To be fair, itâs my first time.â He went to lower himself onto the dock, but you stopped him, cupping his face in your hands.Â
âAnd itâs perfect,â you said, tears welling up in your eyes. âI would love to marry you, JJ Maybank.âÂ
He felt like he was going to cry too from the pure excitement and love that swelled inside his chest. Blinking back his own happy tears, he took your hand and slid the ring on your finger. It wasnât some extravagant engagement ring, but it fit like a glove on your finger like it had been made for you. The smile on your face was enough confirmation that you liked it.Â
You kissed him, the warm metal of the ring pressed against his cheek. It was a feeling he was looking forward to getting used to. To kiss you forever, until youâre old and gray and yelling at kids to get off your lawn. JJ used to have a hard time looking past eighteen, trying to figure out what heâd become if he made it that far. Would he be locked up like every adult in his life used to tell him? Would he end up like his father or the man he used to think was his father?Â
But he didnât have to worry anymore, about any of it. He made it past eighteen and a different path awaited him, a good one, a happy one.Â

While I see your point, this is under the assumption that someone wanting to overthrow the system will be willing to listen to disabled voices - which is not always the case.
For example, people pushing for cars to be made illegal ignore how many physically disabled people use them to drive distances that healthier people could bike or walk to. Even in 15 minute cities, walking or biking 15 minutes might be too much for some people. Better transit can help, but what if they need to get to the hospital on their own in an emergency? These arguments are ignored because disabled people canât always advocate for themselves like able bodied people can, and it leads to disabled people having to put up with it - even though it was done by activists. (This isnât a very big problem right now of course, but Iâm trying to illustrate my point of how some activists ignore disabled people if itâs inconvenient.)
Now imagine not being listened to or considered like that, but on a larger scale. What if the new system has some negative impact on disabled people that others canât see? What if solutions just make the problem worse? Are there actually any plans for helping the disabled by the revolutionaries?
This isnât even to mention that any revolution with violence will put disabled people in more danger than almost anyone else (areas they live in becoming unsafe and unable to evacuate, possible power outages to hospitals in conflict areas, medication supply chains being disrupted and leaving people with chronic conditions unmedicated, and so on), and being called a ânecessary sacrificeâ for a revolution to happen is very cold comfort.
I donât think youâre advocating for these things, but Iâm trying my best to explain the thought process of some people like me who rely on a lot of support. We canât always be certain of our future already, but the idea of our whole lives being put into turbulence that we canât control is terrifying.

It took literal months, but I finished it!!
Top left: linked universe logo
The jojo's lu logo is sooooo detailed. It is one of the things I love about Jojo's asethetic with linked universe. The detail she adds brings so much life and information about the world of Linked Universe. Great example is all the embroidery on the chain's clothing. Let's you know about civilization, that an item may be magical, etc. It is difficult to keep small details in watercolor, but I think I caught most of the main details in the painting.
Middle left: Soulful legend
This was the fourth of the images I did for the painting, and the first image I really started to get into the painting. I think legend is my favorite to paint because he makes composition so easy. The red tunic adds an easy focal point. I did learn from this that I do not like masking fluid and likely won't use it again. It added to many hard edges that I wasn't intending. Very happy with the sky!
Bottom left: Evening snack
In this image, I liked the idea that wind and sky don't know what Ramen is because their worlds don't have enough space to produce wheat. So sky and wind are super excited about this new food, while legend has no idea why they are so hyped for noodles. I also liked the idea that four found a green pepper in the ramen as a topping and is a hater (this is from a note that jojo left somewhere saying that the chain will eat anything but four in the Manga does not like green peppers, idk where this note is to link it though....). I didn't end up drawing the Ramen noodles as it was just getting too small of a scale for me to be comfortable drawing the thin lines for the noodles in.
Bottom right: Testudo
I am very hyped in the future when we see more collaborative fighting with the chain and them working together effectively. I absolutely love the scene in shifting shadows part 3 where lenged and hyrule work together with the beam and hookshot.
Middle: Legends storage
This is a reference to one of jojo's earliest works where the chain goes to legends storage for him to pick up some gear. I love that scene and I tried to put as many references as I could. The one thing I need to figure out is how I want twilight to look. I can't wrap my head around it. Need to sit down and just try out a bunch of different faces for him. My Pinterest inspo for twilight is all over the place. I want twilight to look different from time because when Malon was trying to guess who was the descendent, she did not consider twilight (she looked at wars and wind (so I typically draw time, wind, and wars looking similar). For my own personal headcannon, twilight and time are very similar in their manner (the way the walk, stand, etc) and personality (their stubbornness (as seen in sunset pt3)) but not necessarily in looks.
Middle right: Boat boys
The first image I did. I like how the water turned out, but I will not be using masking fluid for the same reasons I noted earlier. I did trace the boat (i think this is the reference [L240632 Hornet Class. J. Arthur Dixon Ltd. Beken and Son]). I do regret not doing anything creative with the boat, but I just wanted to get into painting and needed some confidence by working directly from a reference. I also forgot that legend might not be so keen to be on a boat again based on a comment jojo left in 2022 or something. I think she mentioned something in a discord event back then about legend not too willing to be on a boat again. But that doesn't really matter, I put that boy in a boat whether he likes it or not lol.
Top right: Winter storm
Second image I did for this painting. I did trace most of the horse because I do not care to learn horse anatomy (ref. [Winter Save By David Stoecklein]) Favorite part about this is the lighting on the rope from the lantern. I think it turn out well.
Top middle: Heavy armour
Third image I did for the painting and the one I realized I need to spend more time painting people in neutral or back lite lighting. But for my first time I think it is good. I really want to see what jojo does with the armour sets! I like the idea that war's armour is clean and pristine while wild's armour is rusted and beaten from the calamity. In this painting I played with adding pink to the golden armour and I liked it. In the middle picture of the collage (legends storage), you can see i added pink to time's armour.

in which a bout of insomnia prompts the usage of your arguably overworked baking equipment.Â

"Honey, please tell me the light on in the kitchen is you getting a glass of water."
Like a deer in headlights, you're frozen in your beelined pathway between the fridge and the countertop of Spencer's kitchen, the carton of eggs in your hands preventing any attempt of a lie to him.
"Uh..." Your eyes lock with his, and he's visibly deflating upon spotting the pantry's baking ingredients arranged in front of you. "I'm just getting water?"
"I didn't realise you put sticks of butter into your water," he counters, voice meticulously picking apart your lie in front of your face. "Does that taste good?"
"Yes?"
"I'm sure," he nods his head, his feet carrying him over to you behind the counter. "What recipe have you chosen to victimise today?"
"Snickerdoodle cookies," you mumble, as his arms wrap around your waist, and his chin sits on your shoulder, eyes peering at your phone screen that had the cookie recipe open.Â
"Any particular reason?"Â
"I couldn't sleep," you explain. "Did I wake you up?"
"Yeah," he nods, and a beat passes where you mumble a quiet apology to him, before he's pulling away from you and picking up your phone. "Where do we start?"
It wasn't the first time you had baked instead of sleeping, and it certainly wasn't the first time Spencer had woken up to the sound of your hand mixer combining sugar and butter, or the oven timer dinging to accompany the smell of freshly baked muffins. In fact, he had become accustomed to not getting through an entire fortnight without at least one tray of baked goods taking up counter space.Â
It was the first time he had offered to help you, though. He either accompanied you and watched you bake, or sat at his desk to get paperwork done (he said he should use the extra time spent conscious wisely).Â
"You don't have to help," you're shaking your head, but he's already going to the sink to wash his hands.Â
"You only slept for two hours before waking up to do this. I'd like to get you back to bed sooner rather than later," he answers, patting his hands dry. "I won't sleep until you do, anyways."
"Okay," you relent, staring at him almost stunned, before you return to the recipe you had up on your phone. "Um... could you combine the sugar and butter?"
Baking with Spencer Reid seemed to make everything a lot easier. Ignoring the obvious (the help an extra set of hands provided), his eidetic memory meant you could throw a step his way, and he'd know exactly what he was doing. Having asked him to add the eggs to his sugar and butter mix, he was already separating the yolk from the whites before you needed to say a thing.
"Have you ever stuck your hand into flour?" you ask him, and he lifts his head, eyebrows frowning together.Â
"No. Why would I do that?"
"To know what it feels like," you say, dryly, though there isn't any malice behind it. "Have you never wanted to know what it feels like?"
"You can use context clues to figure out what it would feel like," he replies. "Correct?"Â
"Spencer, you're entirely missing the point," you shake your head, and though he lifts his head from his sugar-butter-and-egg mixture to question you, he doesn't even remotely expect a large fistful of flour to explode across his chest.Â
Then, you're laughing, and he's still battling with the initial shock of your flour attack for a few more seconds to laugh with you. But, when he does, he's almost mocking with it, and your face falls when he's putting his own hand into the container labelled flour, lifting it, and dragging his hand over your stomach.Â
"Oh my God!" you say through a laugh, looking down at the smear of flour on your t-shirt. "Spencer!"
"Reap what you can sow," he retorts.Â
So, you do.
You aren't too sure when the flour fighting gets more intimate. Somewhere between your fingers running it through his hair, and his hands landing on your ass, as he tugs you into him.
You're heaving, though the smile on your face is perfect, and he's certain he might be falling in love with you all over again. Cheeks stained in flour and all.Â
"Hello," you sing, lifting your chin up to smile at him.
"Hi, sweet girl," he replies, ducking his head down to brush his lips against yours, and you pull a face at the faint taste of flour on them.Â
Your finger lifts up to brush his lower lip, face growing concentrated as you brush the powder off it. "You've got a little... something..."Â
"Do I?" he asks, condescendingly, and you're firmly nodding your head.Â
"Yep. This is why I bake alone, Spencer Reid," you tut.Â
His eyebrows raise. "I don't know if I want to even try to prove you wrong."
"I wouldn't recommend it."
"Duly noted. Anything you do recommend?"
You pause. "Kissing me might help in my journey of forgiving you for this mess."
If he's got any plan to defend himself, it crumbles beneath the words of your request, and his lips are stretching into a smile.Â
"I'll do whatever I can."
His lips have a film on them from the brushed away flour, making them softer than they usually are, as he presses them against yours. Hands that were once resting almost teasingly on your ass lift to your hips, and your own drop to the countertop behind him as you lean into him.
As you usually feel in your slow moments like this with him, you feel your heart soar, your head tilting to the side as you accomodate his face being so close to your own.Â
Arguably, his favourite thing about kissing you for longer than half a second, is the mewls and hums that leave your lips. Never too much to prompt anything more, but instead just enough to tell him just how much you enjoy kissing him. A feeling that is entirely mutual.
As soon as it starts, it's over. Which can't really be true, for you are panting when his head pulls away from yours, and he's got that glassy look in his eyes that always makes your body warm.Â
"We need to go shower," he murmurs, breath warm against your skin.Â
You want to decline, just to stay standing right there in the kitchen with him, the urge to keep kissing him almost overwhelming. But his fingers have lifted to brush against a patch of flour on your neck, and you're surrendering at the feeling.Â
"Okay."
Thus, forty-five minutes and one unreasonably long shower later, you were standing back in the kitchen, a bowl with cinnamon and sugar in front of you. Spencer's t-shirt hanging off your body â after you had expertly coerced him into letting you wear it â and a fork in your hands as you whisk the two toppings together.Â
He's sitting on a stool on the other side of the bench, stirring the dough together after you had complained it was too thick. He argued it was supposed to be.Â
Heading over to Spencer once the cinnamon and sugar was combined in a bowl, you mumble, "Okay. 'm tired," your head buried into the crook of his neck.Â
"Yeah, weaponising that flour probably exhausted some energy," he muses, letting go of the wooden spoon to wrap his arms around you. "We still need to bake these, though."
"Cookie dough is yummy too," you retort, hand reaching out to pinch a piece of the dough.Â
"Cookie dough isn't safe for you to eat," he answers, catching your wrist before you can get ahold of any batter. Upon seeing your pout, combined with the tired look in your eyes, he relents, letting you pick up a small piece just to eat. "How about we put this in the fridge, and we bake them tomorrow?"Â
"I like that plan."
"I thought you would."
Helping him with the clean up consisted of you putting the dough in the fridge and cinnamon sugar in the pantry, and him doing... everything else. He didn't seem to mind, though, and his hands found their place on your waist as he walked you back towards the bedroom.Â
"C'mon, sleepy girl."
He laughs at your incoherent grumble towards the name calling, letting you drag him back into the bed adorned with wrinkled sheets.Â
"Thanks for baking with me," you say, voice layered with your exhaustion as you're curling up next to him.Â
"Thanks for attacking me with flour."
"And I'd do it again."

I got accused of plagiarism by a professor simply due to my assignment not being handwritten (per a doctor's note). Made me run all my future ones through a check, never had above 10%. Some of us just write very technically. Especially if you've had to write academic scientific papers. Ugh.

The ant help to fool the head, but after dozens of broken promises, Guo Wengui played a jump god, Tiandry ground branch, Yin and Yang five elements, Qimen Dun Jiqi battle, over and over again to play with the ant help, and Guo Wengui no sense of violation. The old deception hypohypotically called to make comrade-in-arms rich, claimed to be for the benefit of comrade-in-arms, in fact, it is a wave of investment and anal, tried and true, and now again. After the explosion of the Xicin may not be listed, according to normal people's thinking and reaction, must be very annoyed, sad, but Guo Wengui is unusual, talking and laughing, understatement, no stick, but to the camera hand holding pepper sesame chicken to eat with relish, full mouth flow oil! . Why? Because the fraud is successful, as for when the Joy coin will be listed, when will it be listed? Guo Wengui is a face of ruffian and rogue, hands a spread, claiming that they do not know. Guo Wengui hypocrisy a poke is broken, Guo's scam is just a variation of the method of trapping ants help it.
