Pickup Post #2
Well, LetGo came through again. This deal blows the other one away in my opinion. I went slack-jaw when I saw the listing and immediately contacted him to meet up for the sale. I’ll do an item by item reveal of everything I got in this lot, then reveal the price I paid at the end. A word of warning, it is a little long since I included pictures of everything, so, warm up your scroll wheel.
This is a GameCube lot, with one Wii item thrown in. I’ll start with the lesser valued items, a few games that are essentially shovel-ware, the ones that kind of just came with the items I was really after.
Carnival Games for Wii
Tumblr media
Just a real filler title on the Wii, nothing special, a re-hashing of every ring toss, shoot the ducks, dart throw type set of games out there. This was not the focus of the lot. Obviously. Just the first of the titles that came with it.
Tumblr media
Disc is in good shape. It is complete. It works, I did throw it in the Wii to be sure. So, it is what it is.
Moving on
Nascar Thunder 2003 for GameCube
Tumblr media
Also not the focus of the lot. Clearly. Extreme shovel-ware here. What really sucks is I can’t even use the case for anything, sticker on the front notwithstanding, since I can get those off. The real problem is there is a gouge in the plastic cover, and someone wrote in marker on the back. This will be going in a bundle if I come into an extra GameCube to sell.
Tumblr media
Disc is in good shape, a few scuffs. I did fire it up long enough to test it, and it does work, but oh man is it a terrible game. I couldn’t stomach it for more than about 5 minutes.
Moving on.
Ratatouille for GameCube
Tumblr media
Last shovel-ware title in the lot thank god, this was not the focus of the lot either.
Tumblr media
Disc is in good shape as well, and it does work. Couldn’t even bring myself to start a game on this one, had zero interest in playing this one.
I was hoping the case would have at least been in good shape to use as a swap for any other pick ups that might not be in as good of shape. It has a sticker on it, and while that is no issue, there is another gouge on the back. These games were abused. Discs and cases.
Super Monkey Ball 2
Tumblr media
Finally a good title, and one I needed anyway after getting Super Monkey Ball from my dad a while back. Disc is in terrible shape though, and unfortunately, this one does not boot. I even took it to a store to have it resurfaced. It still does not boot. Very disappointed on that one. While not an expensive title, I do like the Monkey Ball series on the GameCube. I am going to hang onto the disc, if i can find a place that charges less than $3 per run on resurfacing I may run it another time or two, see if it might be saved. So I will have an update on that in the future.
Tumblr media
Alternatively, the case is in good shape, so this one at least I could use to cannibalize and make another pick up a little nicer if need be. Also if I get a Monkey Ball 2 for cheap disc only, I’ll be set.
Now, on to the first reason I bought the lot.
Yes. This. This right here.
This was one of two reasons I bought this lot. Great game, and despite being the best selling game for the GameCube, it is still about $50 on eBay. Tons of attention on this game with plenty of current players. Tournaments, parties, and die hard fans. All still after copies to feed the need to play. Breaker of friendships, destroyer of controllers.
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Nintendo of Japan started making new controllers for the GameCube again simply because the demand for Smash was so high. They come with a longer cord so that is nice, but the consensus in the community seems to be that they are just not the same. Texture is different, the weight is different and the shoulder buttons have been regarded as pure shit. Which is kind of terrible since the shoulder buttons are used extensively in this game.
Tumblr media
I have not played this game before buying it here, and I quickly found that I am utterly terrible at it. But given that it is still so popular, I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to have a copy.
Unfortunately this one was also in rough shape, but, it works. I got it resurfaced anyway since I like nicer condition games. Case in decent shape, and it is black box. Excellent. Only thing about this game is it is missing its manual. Darn it. Of course, Monkey Ball 2 disc looks like someone used it for an air hockey puck, and it won’t even boot, and it is complete in box, but not the working copy of Smash. Couldn’t have that.
Tumblr media
Oh well. Still a heck of a buy at the price I paid. We may get the manual in due time.
The last bit of the lot are controllers. One 3rd party, and two first party. The first:
Tumblr media
Absolutely awful controller, and it’s in bad shape. The A button is mashed in.
Tumblr media
Probably a collapsed or torn rubber nipple for that button.
Terrible color, and it rattles. Oi. Killing me. If I can fix the A button it might be worth bundling with a resale console later on. Maybe.
Maybe.
Next one is a 1st party controller in really rough condition.
Tumblr media
Missing thumb stick cap rubber. The cord is utterly destroyed. They tried to tape it, which just makes it look worse, and puts gooey crap all over it so its not worth taking the tape off now either.
Tumblr media
The thumb stick is really tight though, like “brand new” tight. Almost imperceptible amount of wiggle. So I will keep this for parts without hesitation. If I can get another one that has a good cord and stick it would be an easy solder of the wire and a quick swap on the thumb stick cap.
Finally, the last item in the lot, and the primary of the two reasons I bought the lot.
Wavebird
Tumblr media
Anyone who even part time collects for GameCube will know these are gold. The receiver alone is worth north of $30, and a working complete one even in only B+ shape like this one is probably $40 plus. Very minor thumb stick wiggle and rubber yellowing, with a few minor scuffs on it. An acceptable condition, working Wavebird. Extremely happy with this purchase. I’ve wanted one of these since I first decided I wanted to start collecting for the GameCube and discovered it in all my googling and eBay searching.
So the price of the lot. Well, my jaw actually hit the floor when I saw the lot, because with a complete Wavebird controller, and a copy of Super Smash Bros. in it, it would have been a good deal at $50. It would have been a bargain at $40, and it would have been an absolute steal at $30.
But would you believe I didn’t even pay $30?
Here’s the original listing.
Tumblr media
That’s right. $20.
TWENTY DOLLARS.
Never thought I would score a Wavebird for only $20, let alone in the same lot as a copy of Smash.
Great pick up. Working copy of Smash, working Wavebird. I’m happy.
You may notice there’s a first party memory card in the listing there, he did not have that when he showed up unfortunately. He forgot it. I still gave him the $20, and he said if he was back in the area he’ll give me the card, but I’m not banking on it. Would be nice, but I’ve written it off.
Official business:
$47.09 - $20 for the lot = $27.09
$27.09 - $6 for disc resurfacing = $21.09
$21.09 Game Hunting money remaining. We had better get something sold soon or we are going to be dead in the water.
