this is so interesting to me bc imo i kind of love when people take their favorite characters and make them essentially into renamed ocs, like sometimes im like “they would NOT fucking say that!!!” in my head but even then i think its kinda sweet when people love a character so much they impart their entire selves in them. to be loved is to be changed and all that

in general the vibes hit different when you take a character you love and change them compared to when you make a character from scratch, or at least to me when i make ocs they don’t hit the same as canon characters, so i completely understand why someone would rather take a canon character and flip them on their heads rather than make a whole new oc

some of you would be better off splitting your far removed from canon interpretations into entirely new characters

#like it can be fucking annoying but even through that annoyance there’s an undercurrent of understanding that i feel towards them #its not even a ‘oh people know this character more and will care for them more than an oc’ thing #its a ‘this character makes me feel things in my SOUL. and they already exist #and i cant fully replicate this feeling myself #in the same way that makinh a sandwich doesnt taste a good as having one made for you #so instead i will take this character #and love them and change them and adore them #because i connect with them and they make my soul happy #even though i’ve separated them from the source material #i have captured their essence in a jar with me’#idk this is all very philosophical and all #im always careful to try and interpret characters close to canon #but sometimes i will read fics where they change the character so much and im like #‘wow. this is so different to what i know #but theyve captured the vibe of the character despite that #and im coming to love this new version as well’.#i think its fun to take a character well known and loved and change them #its all the fun that comes with being in a fandom #‘canon? who’s she? i dont know her’#and all that
