WELLLLL... okay. so there's only one that has a pretty concrete beginning. their name is ying!

first of all, i wanted this au to be a true au. so it takes place as the same time as atla, but not in the same continuity. maybe there will be parallels story-wise, but it won't be the same people.

so! that being said, ying is a human raised around spirits. they were abandoned as a baby in the desert, but rather than being taken in by sandbenders, they were found by one of wan shi tong's knowledge keepers -- y'know, the little foxes? they took in this human child and gave them a special type of glamour to make them appear like a spirit to protect their identity as a human.

the knowledge keepers are more sociable than wan shi tong. wan shi tong by this point is very wary of humans and their requests for the knowledge that he keeps in his library, so he leaves communication to the knowledge keepers and ying.

ying is almost too fascinated by humans. humans who come in and out always comment about a small spirit with fox ears and tail who watches them from a corner with sparkling eyes. whenever ying gets seen, they scurry off to wan shi tong's side to report on what information they're finding and whether or not their intentions are pure.

i wanted to make other characters around ying because ying will grow up isolated from humanity and without a family. the knowledge keepers are kind, but they're not family. and wan shi tong doesn't love ying. not in the slightest. he values ying's safety, but mostly because ying now contains within them the abundance of knowledge that is in the library. if they were to escape and use that knowledge for nefarious means or if a bad human were to steal them, wan shi tong would have to wreak havoc on the human world somehow.

ying is so, so precious. i want to give them a found family with the new team avatar that i'm gonna make. ying is light on their feet and crafty, as well as knowledgeable and serene. and if i'm being honest, they probably don't even know much of the human language. they know nothing of the outside world, nd they're so precious to me. they'll find siblings, mothers, and maybe love, but all of that will come in due time.

ying is NOT the avatar though. they're a human who is blessed by the spirits and maybe with airbending. yeah. definitely an airbender.
