ngl watching this one vod has permanently altered my brain chemistry. like i didnt realize ro and planet had trust like That throughout s5. its esp obvious during the void arc when it was "WE dont trust you", and not I dont trust you or He does not trust you. no wonder planet kept defending ro even after everyone else had given up on her bc her betraying seemed inevitable..........
#veni.txt#i dont even think or know if they have a duo name#which like fair enough they have other very interesting relationships that overshadow them a bit#but s5 planet and ro make me sooooooooo#theyre both My Special Lil Guys#so obv i am very invested in whatever tf they had going on in s5......#also i desperately DESPERATELY need a locked in ro and minute team up again#watching ro hide behind 20 heart minutetech whenever she got freaked out (at the start of the void arc at least)#has like. changed how i view their relationship entirely bc there WAS a point where she trusted and fully relied on minute#which is very very interesting bc i wanna know where that changed#and what caused that change#bc start of void arc minute planet and ro seemed very stable and like they trusted each other#but well. then we got a planet self ban. and later a ro betrayal later on bc she didnt feel wanted by minute Or the foundation#and like now idt minute will ever fully trust ro as long as mapey exists on the server LMFAO

rewatching severance s2 and in e1 mark w. talks about how his branch got shut down which reminds me of how in the finale the MDR department that we know was set to be shut down once cold harbour was completed . which to me at least implies that mark w. and gwendolyn y.'s department had a similar cold harbour-esque situation that in their case was finished bc why else would their whole department have been shut down
#severance#all this Also implies that this has been a process that existed long before mark and gemma but perhaps reached its intended goal with them#bc ive seen people be like 'why are mark and gemma so special' and it's nothing inherent about them lumon is just exploiting them like they#do everyone else . like the whole refining process relies on the innies' emotions right to isolate the numbers and sort them . and the#numbers are the consciousnesses of the trapped people on the testing floor . and so to me at least it's strongly implied that the stronger#the emotional connection the innie has with those numbers the more aptly refined it is or whatever . which is why mark and gemma are so#important to lumon bc of their deep emotional connection ! like the chances of having a married couple in ur fucked up experiment? of COURS#they were willing to do anything to get mark to finish fuckass cold harbour!! and considering how quickly drummond got to killing him after#he Did complete it it truly shows how they only wanted him for the unique labour he could do for them and didn't gaf about him as a person#anw tldr; cold harbour was just the latest attempt in the long process of 'mdr worker refines the innie consciousnesses of trapped people o#the severed floor to test the efficacity of the severance barriers with the eventual end goal of selling severance to the layman uptop'#and they were salivating over mark and gemma so badly bc they represented lumon's best opportunity to test those severance barriers (due#to their emotional connection as husband and wife)#this also does imply that the whole refining process taps into the innies' subconscious bc ms casey and mark s. don't recognise each other#yet the whole time mark s. HAD been successfully refining gemma's many innies#it does leave the question of who the others were refining bc even though they clearly singled out mark as their Guy bc they were probs#getting the best results from him the others were still refining people . they were all feeling emotional connections to the files#so to me that means they All have people they're in some way emotionally connected on the testing floor ? my crack theory is that helly was#refining her mom

I feel like SV girlies haven't seriously considered "codependent mutually obsessive JuliNemo" yet and that's a shame, really. I've seen a lot of wholesome ChampionRank (really cute but a rehash of every wholesome yuri I've ever seen, not much original content here and that's okay) and one-sided obsessive yandere!Nemona ChampionRank (REALLY do not like the villainization of Nemona's neurodivergence but eh, you can do whatever you want forever) but not as much "these two get on like a house on fire. and boy, it's dry season" ChampionRank.
Where is "battle-hungry socially starved trainwrecks who have no one but each other" JuliNemo. Where is "oh god these two exacerbate each others issues into the stratosphere and this can only end in disaster but I can't look away" JuliNemo. Where is "bringing out the worst in each other and scaring the hoes" JuliNemo. Where is "you two are perfect for each other. Never change, just never involve anyone else in any of this" JuliNemo. There's so much potential here. Toxic codependent yuri save me
#pokĂŠmon#pokemon sv#championrankshipping#julinemo#babbles#my juliana is such a mess#she does not make friends easily and can't keep relationships for long at all#whenever someone enters her life she aants to make the best impression so she lovebombs them incessantly#and that either comes across as too much too fast or causes people to get too attached.#but she's young. she is very young. and the people who bothered to match her energy had ulterior motives#so now she's too afraid of getting too close to someone#she'll act the part but never show her true self#and at the slightest hint of genuine connection she'll RUN.#this of course clashes horribly with Nemona's own overbearing personality and loneliness#you know how she wants you to be her ideal rival. and you end up becoming exactly that.#yeah to my Juliana this was kind of a nightmare because. as much as this toed her boundaries#she isn't so inept as to not recognize a bit of herself in Nemona. so she decided to ride this out and appease her#and UH OH! she got attached. fear and need for control and validation from feeling wanted mixed in her head#and she started matching Nemona's energy and the two jumped into dating too fast and oops. they're codependent now#they literally can't handle being away from each other for more than two days or they start going feral#i wish i had the energy to write this one because i'm fascinated by this horrible dynamic. i want to study them in a rat maze#edit: i feel like i should clarify that this interpretation relies on Florian existing and being the one to help Penny and Arven#Florian isn't without his issues. he's a huge people pleaser too. but he's more of a doormat who can't say no

my hag romance murder mystery au turning to magistrate astarion working with executor shriâiia we kind of like that development
#why I never considered their past jobs kinda worked well together LOL#like she technically was her matriarchâs executor with the way she hunted people down and all#and heâd be sending rando and poor people to death for their crimes bc god knows if he was fair and had honor#in this au he does not bc heâs indebted to cazador (heâs not a vamp tho thatâll b too easy for a murder mystery)#like hag romance working together to solve the murders themselves then when theyâre done they give the findings to whoever is formally in#charge of solving it then disappearing đ I also want a scenario where theyâre both using each other for their own means as in#shriâiia needs him to take her back down the underdark bc she dk where to go but then she learns that she wasnât supposed to survive this#mission anyway so sheâs like đ§ââď¸ well Iâll figure that out later#astarion wanted to either frame her or use her against cazador so he can be free and run away#mid way he changes her plans bc Uh Oh thereâs Feelings Involved#either mid way or later down the line I havenât decided yet. but whatever they do in the end kind of âfreesâ them from both their conflicts#they end up running away together đ live ur best life queens#Iâm also hmm stuck on what exactly astarion is indebted for like it has to be something drastic and heâd be desperate to rely on cazador#(though Iâm thinking that cazador set up the whole scheme and he just got played - which parallels shriâiia getting bamboozled too)#when ur charlatans who have 8 int đ§ââď¸#but basically astarion when he sentences someone instead of sending them to the gallows he sends them to cazador to be âreformedâ but then#they end up disappearing from the plane of existence. so heâs like trafficking people đ§ââď¸ but then Iâm like idk what wouldâve happened for#him to do something so drastic and actually go through with doing It and multiple times Too hmm#weâre still brainstorming âŚ

When I was making my first trying-to-be-serious ocs it was in the start of the 2010s (and I mean the START, 2010-2012) and there was a big âanti Mary-sueâ movement on deviantart (the website I spent half my internet time on and was posting my art on) and I liked to make my character designs pretty extra (although compared to modern stuff they look pretty normal) so I started to get self-conscious. At the time though I was watching soul eater (and there was another thing Iâm forgetting and itâs really frustrating me) and I saw that it was popular with a cool art style and the characters were extra AF, so I was like âokay. Maybe, as long as I can draw my character often and consistently it doesnât matter if they are wild!â and you know what? Early teen me was RIGHT. Not about many things, but about this in particular she was!
#emma posts#girl was relying too heavily on character tropes and some stuff of that era#but she was so right about character design#if maybe using a few too many colors for each one#now people are just being wild with it and it fucking works#two examples I can think of in modern popular animation are mha/bnha and hazbin hotel (still havenât watched that one)#but damn if those characters donât look like some of my favorite early teen creations#and the artist made it WORK#i donât think Iâve gone quite as wild as bnha but you know what? one of my old worlds still could#Iâm sentimental about that one and even if Iâve been stuck Iâm still taking that one with me forever#other projects might come and go. but (project currently named absolution) is constant#as well as its main cast. Iâve been learning a bit more about some of the mythologies I used as inspiration and itâs been giving a lot of#ideas for how I can develop things. it has not solved a few hang ups though#the biggest one being what was the divide about and how was it defined?â#itâs been made more gray as I learn more about mythology and folklore#the Christian aspects of it can be a bit clear. but others have more gray areas and i like it but it also makes things a bit frustrating#interestingly enough. flight rising having so many different species on one world has given me some ideas#I am a bit reluctant to use too much from outside certain cultures though. which can appear a bit biased and probably is. but I donât want#to mess up something you canât really change about a creature from a culture in less familiar with. it would be a dick move#but yeah. if death the kid can exist my weirdos can as well

i find it rlly funny when i make a character and iâm just like. tumblr would love them. tumblr would be all over this character. why isnât tumblr obsessed w them already. and then remember they exist only in my mind :(
#my character birthday i love birthday heâs one of my favorite characters iâve ever made and i know he would be a hit on tumblr lmao#his name is birthday and heâs the birthday boy and itâs his birthday!#and also heâs devastatingly lonely. and lowkey got theseusâ shipped. whoops.#and also lilith. tumblr would adore lilith.#called the ghost of the wasteland and her existence is largely only rumored. was a genetic experiment to create something that#could survive the nuclear wastelands that cover the majority of her world. they succeeded but she escaped and now lives in those same#wastelands. is incredibly codependent w a very morally grey dude who was a black market test subject for poisons who escaped around the#same time as her and they ended up relying entirely on each other for survival for years and know each other better than anyone#but struggle to connect in any way that isnât solely to keep each other alive when theyâre older.#he never talks about his past and she is almost entirely nonverbal and doesnât rlly want to find a way to tell him about hers.#she also realized after she escaped that she prefers to be referred to w she/her pronouns after her existence being viewed as#something instead of a someone and choosing that for herself is one of the first choices she ever made for herself and who she is.#and sheâs only a side character in the story and mostly just haunts the narrative but yknow i should incorporate her more because#wow i love her actually. sheâs dope as hell XD#dandy talks#my ocs#canât talk more about birthday even tho i love him just as much because one of my friends has my tumblr and iâm using birthday#in a story iâm writing w my friends for fun and i donât wanna spoil anything more than i have lmao. but yeah birthday is so cool lmao

And you just know that if you did notice and take action, you'd be wrong about it that time. There'd be this whole "Why would you do that? I left that/did that the way I did for an important reason!" And it'll be something they think is total common sense but is something you've never thought of in your life and would never have imagined in a million years. But no, you messed up because "Everyone knows that!"
Of course, these 'tests' are coming from a real and valid feeling. They're not the proper reaction to it, but the feeling is real. They think you aren't paying attention to them, or don't care about being there when they need you, or they're just incredibly sick of always being the only one to wash the thing or do the chore. That's a real and valid feeling!
But the answer to that isn't to test, it's to talk. If you're having an issue with someone, you should talk to them. Tell them, hey, I always wash the car. I don't want to always be the only one to wash the car. Can you wash it too sometimes? Be clear and honest and communicate.
I hate that thing some people do where it's like. "I left my wallet on the table to see if you'd say anything" or "I wanted to see if you'd wash the car if I stopped doing it"
Cause like
I dont know about anyone else
But I am perpetually hovering three inches above the strong subconscious belief that everyone knows what they're doing at all times except me, so if you change your normal patterns and I notice, then I will assume it is an intentional choice with a thought-out plan behind it and I will avoid interfering
And if I don't notice, because I won't, because why would I, because not much bothers me and if you don't say anything to indicate you are bothered then how would I KNOW
#Neurotypical people have this social cue super power that helps so much for working with others#But sometimes I feel like they're so used to relying on that#that when it fails they legitimately have no idea what to do#And we get weird unhealthy reactions like these secret tests#Meanwhile people without that superpower have to actually learn to communicate#They don't have a super shortcut tool to smooth all that out and make it easy for them#So many become very practiced at the important skill of#âOh my gosh please just talk about itâ#Maybe a little off topic but like#This is why neurodiversity is so important#I really do think it exists not exclusively as a defect but as an evolutionary advantage#We are here to learn from each other#And to help each other#That's important

Prev tags are great! Would also like to add that when I see this so much as aromantic myself it makes me wonder "is this really unrealistic or are these people writing from experience and romance really is this shallow?" Probably the answer is that romance can be that shallow in real life (where you go "wow that person is pretty I'm in love I will devote my whole life to them now), it appears too much for it not to be some people's personal experience, but if it is it will rarely end well. So I'm fine with that kind of weird forced romance if the point of the story is that romance makes people stupid and get into shallow attractiveness-based "relationships" that lead to bad outcomes while society's elevating of romance as The Most Important Thing and Self-Evident makes people trust that shallow attraction as a guide to completely upending their lives instead of recognizing what's going on, the problem is when the story is also trying to sell you on that this is not shallow at all, it's true love and the most important thing in the world and they will be together forever and ever, while the actual writing shows otherwise and makes me worry about the author that this is what they think are the ingredients for a lasting relationship where both love each other for what they are as human beings.
a lot of stories treat romance like it makes the relationship between two characters self explanatory and to be honest it doesnât
#prev tags:#i saw someone post once that before gay people were normalized in stories#same gender characters would do all kinds of insane shit for each other. sacrifice everything panic when the other was in danger and all#and now it's more of the same bland shit as straight couples#and i think this was basically it#stories often rely on romance to do all the heavy lifting. we know that the couple is devoted to each other because you yold us they're#in love. they could literally never interact on screen and not only would the audience be expected to accept this but they probably would d#while friendships (until recently the only acceptable type of non-familial relationship same gender characters could have)#dont have that same expectation. we dont expect friends to be devoted to the end in the same way that we would expect from a romance#so they had to go to greater lengths to show audiences that they had something *special*#and now that queer romances are more normalized writers use the same rules for them and expect the fact that the relationship exists#to do all the heavy lifting

Marcille is actually one of the biggest reasons it took so long to pinpoint which Chilchuck was the imposter in todayâs episode.
The Senshi and Marcille imposters had their own reasons for being hard to decipher, but that was a joint effort on the partyâs part. Chilchuck was the only example where a single memberâs bias actually swayed the others so strongly that it made them all doubt themselves.
Ryouko Kui did an excellent job of giving us a rich background on how different races interact, and how they may descriminate against each other. Each of the races in this series struggles with these prejudices. Our main characters are not exempt from this, and we see it clearly in the way the shapeshifter manifested as each party member, showing us how the others percieve them.
Marcille knows Chilchuck well, and cares deeply for him as a friend. But sheâs not immune to assumptions and biases that come from her elven background. The Chilchuck imposter we are faced with, when itâs down to two of them left, is Marcilleâs memory of Chilchuck, Marcilleâs perception of how he behaves.

One of the first manifestations of this bias occurs when shapeshifter Chilchuck canât get a jar open.

The real Chilchuck knows that this would never happenâat least not in this way. Chilchuck is proud, yes, but he asks for Laiosâ help all the time. Laios is actually one of the party members he is the most likely to ask help from, given how long theyâve known each other, and how much mutual trust exists between them.
However, the whole scenario isnât right. Chilchuck wouldnât give up so easily on opening something; his whole job is opening and unlocking things. He would never quit an attempt like this within 5 seconds, then run to Laios so that âbig strong adult tall-manâ can open it for him.

Marcille is the one who asks, âHuh? Why do you say that?â because Marcille is partially right. Chilchuck does rely on Laios, and Marcille knows this to be true. But she fails to realize how he relies on Laios.
Chilchuck respects many of Laiosâ talents, but the most important ones are his combat skills, his emotional fortitude, and his quick thinking when delegating tasks. He trusts Laios as someone he is comfortable following (he literally said to him and Shuro in the last episode: âLaios!! Tell us what do!! Give us orders!!â when chimera Falin was quickly overpowering them).
So while Marcille almost understands Chilchuckâs confidence in Laios, she tends to accidentally infantilize him in the process.

She immediately believes that Chilchuck B (the imposter, who is specifically using her own memory as its base for Chilchuckâs personality) is the real one, and says so, because sheâs blinded by her perception of him as being childlike and adorable because of the very common racial prejudices that half-foots deal with all the time.

She dotes on the imposter, and is open with her affections, as usual (again, her care for him is clear), but doubles down on that bias, on her own assumptions of Chilchuckâs behavior shown through her own lens.

And ultimately, Laios was able to tell the difference, but only because he watched how the Chilchucks handled other minute tasks. Marcilleâs stance on which Chilchuck was real truly did throw the others for a loop, at least until the threat passed. And honestly, thatâs part of what makes the shapeshifter so terrifying. Its strategy almost worked.

Fandom: LaDS Pairings: Caleb x afab!reader Tags: Possessive love, graphic smut, very âtouch her and dieâ vibes, breeding kink, Caleb is jealous of Xavier, light impact play, overstimulation, creampie (be safe yaâll). MINORS DNI. WC: 2.5k
Description: You were a little late returning home from the Hunterâs Association. A/N: For @laddelulu30 who put breeding on my mind xD Also dedicated to @unintentionalseductress because well, Caleb :3
⌠. ăâş ă . ⌠. ăâş ă . âŚ
You said youâd be out late. He already expected that. Yet something about the whole situation still made him uneasy.Â
âThereâs a pair of agents that just got back from their interrogation. Weâre debriefing and then planning our schedules for the next few days. I promise, if itâs later than midnight, Iâll call you to pick me up.â You reassured him over video call.Â
Caleb couldnât protest, not when your eyes are staring back at him with sincerity heâs known for the better part of your lives â it was the same look you fixed him when you wanted an extra five minutes of his time to play whatever game youâd come up with that day.Â
âAlright, alright, fine. Just promise to text me.â Caleb relented, the muscles in his jaw tightening despite the smile he tried to fix on his lips.Â
âI will.âÂ
That was over two hours ago. Thanks to the lifestyle app that you had suggested you download onto your phones, you were able to see each otherâs general location on the map, and the speeds at which your phone was traveling at. Of course this only worked if you had your phone on you and the location was only accurate up to a 3-miles radiusâŚand that wasnât acceptable for him. No, he needed to know where you are at all times, down to the last step.
Thereâs a secret app on Calebâs work cell, one he clicked open to reveal your precise location (the Hunterâs Association building, third floor, in one of the meeting rooms thatâs in the south-eastern wing). This app was connected to the tracker embedded in the ruby gemstone of the dainty gold anklet heâd gifted you. You didnât know about the trackerâs existence of course, and if you did⌠well that stirred a different feeling in Caleb that he was all too happy to entertain, if his focus wasnât already fixated on your location.Â
When the hour struck 10 and you still hadnât called, he needed to take matters into his own hands.
âCâmon pip-squeakâŚpick up the phone.â He muttered as the video call attempted to connect.Â
âCaleb? Why are you calling me silly?â Your laughter made the imaginary claws around his heart retract by a few centimeters. Despite trying to maintain some semblance of restraint, the reproachful tone in his voice reverberated through his sentence.Â
âYou said youâd call if you were staying later than midnight.âÂ
âAnd it isnât midnight.âÂ
Caleb snorted. âJust like you to rely a little too much on technicalities.âÂ
Your laughter made his fingers pause mid-strum against the arm of your sofa. âIt isnât technicalities, itâs the truth. Clock has yet to strike midnight, Mr Caleb.â Your teasing tone doesn't go unnoticed.Â
He chuckled, âItâll be past midnight by the time you get here. Let me pick you up from work.âÂ
âCaleb, Iâm not a little girl anymore. Trust me, Iâve made the walk home a dozen times before with no problem-â
âAnd thatâs supposed to make me feel better? The pure coincidence that you havenât been attacked by some stalker?â
Oh, it was certainly rich of him to say this. But you didnât know that. You didnât know how he was practically on edge right now, the sound of your laughter, the gentle curve of your lipsâŚ.Â
âStop that.â He commanded before he could stop himself, startling not just you but himself. It wasnât like him to lose his control like this.Â
âWhat?â You questioned with furrowed brows.Â
âBiting your lip. Stop biting your lip, I want to do that.â Caleb said, his voice dropping into that gruff tone that made your thighs clench. Torn between surprise and a sudden rush of arousal, you licked your upper lip, brain trying to grasp at the thoughts that rushed through your mind from his authoritarian tone. âIâŚI wasnât aware I was doing it. Sorry.âÂ
Caleb shook his head, locks of his hair curtaining his purple gaze. âYouâve nothing to apologize for. Just be careful coming home.â He told you in a gentler tone. The soft smile didnât reach his eyes and you wondered what couldâve possibly changed⌠Caleb was no stranger to you working late, especially when it came to a case that had spanned months of tracking and intel gathering.Â
âI will be.â You answered. You will be. Caleb thought to himself, watching the little red dot move along the map of his work phone, muscles on the back of his neck slowly relaxing when the very same dot started to move towards the buildingâs exit. He felt better knowing your exact location at all times.
Your fingerprint unlocked the door to your apartment and you were pleasantly surprised by the scent of good food wafting from your barely used kitchen â outside of baking, the kitchen was only functioning when Zayne happened to drop by. Though the doctor much preferred to spend time at his apartment or experiencing the service of an actual chef in a restaurant. Caleb however, had long since made himself at home in your kitchen. There was something oddly intimate about how he knew where you kept all your cups and plates, which drawer stored the utensils versus the designated junk drawer â drawerS, if we were being truthful.Â
âPerfect timing, the rice just finished cooking..â He gestured towards the tasty food and dinner setting that waited for them at the table. You closed the door behind you, hanging your coat with an air of playful suspicion. âWhat did you do Caleb?â You asked.Â
His easy chuckle softened your heart, while he led you to the table, the warm touch of his fingers easily breaking down said suspicions. This is Caleb. Your Caleb. âIâm not trying to butter you up pip-squeak. I promise. Juuuust making sure youâre eating, even if it isnât really on time.â He pulled back a chair for her to sit down, before taking his own seat. You picked up on his pointed tone.Â
âIâm sorry. It wasnât like I intended to stay that late, I swear.â You said watching as he picked up your plate and started to arrange the home-cooked meal on it. His gaze met yours over the food, his scrutiny a little gentler than before. âWho else was there?â He asked.
You cocked your head, accepting the plate he offered. âThe usual crowd, youâve met Tara before. Then Simone was there to give a debriefingâŚâ
âAnd what about that guy?âÂ
You suddenly had flashbacks of being a preteen and Calebâs presence scaring away any and all potential crushes. Picking at your food, you raised an innocent eyebrow. âYou mean Xavier?â His silence spoke more than his words ever could.Â
âHe hasnât been around. Out on another mission by himself. And even if he wasnât, do you honestly believe you have anything to be worried about?â You challenged him with a smile â one that immediately made his pants feel a little too tight. Caleb glowered back at you, âItâs not you I donât trust, pip-squeak. Letâs make that clear. Itâs other people I have little faith in.â He watched as you stood up from your seat, walking over to him. There was a glimmer in your eyes, something that hinted at mischief. Given your history, he was all too familiar with that look of yours. You had something up your sleeve.Â
âYou know, youâve got to start working on your expressions if youâre ever going to go undercover, y/n.â He teased, your fingers trailing across his broad shoulders. He kept his focus on you as you walked around his chair and with a gentle nudge of your hip, had him push it backwards to provide you with just enough room to sit on his lap.Â
You werenât as amused by his jab, pouting up at him in a way that made his heart rate pick up. âI got a high score in âstealth and disguiseâ thank you very much.â You retorted, arms going around his neck. Your fingers begin to play with the sterling silver chain of his dog tag, savoring the warmth of it between your fingertips. âAre you going to be a meanie all night just because you made dinner?â
His chuckle is followed by his arms cradling you, âWell I wasnât going to say anything but since you pointed it out-...â His grip on you tightened before he stood up and carried you from the dining table.Â
⌠. ăâş ă . ⌠. ăâş ă . âŚ
If he were being honest, heâd lost count of the number of orgasms he gave you. All he knew was that heâd never get tired of the way you look beneath him, the way the silver apple charm and dog tag clinked against his chest with each thrust he makes, and heâd especially never get tired of the way you moaned his name like you were begging for repentance from a god. âWhere do you think youâre going pip-squeak? Donât tell me youâre done taking cock? You were so desperate for it earlier.â His voice took on a darker edge, his evol thickening in the air, the fine hairs on your body standing on end at the gravity change in your environment. Your hips that had unconsciously tried to pull away are forced back onto his, forcing him in an angle that made you feel so full. âCalebâŚâ You whined, walls tight as you accommodated his hard, almost manic thrusts â like he just wanted to see how much he could pull out of you, how big of a puddle he could make on the hardwood floor of your living room.Â
âLove hearing you say my name like that.â He muttered, rolling his hips in figure 8âs just to further blur the lines between insanity and pleasure. âWhat do you think about recording it one day for me, hmm? Give me the pleasure of listening to you moaning over and over again when you send me texts.â Calebâs smirk is replaced with a sudden darkening of his lavender eyes. âThen again, that would mean risking other people hearing your beautiful, needy voice. And I like knowing that this is all for me.â His hand slid into your hair, grasping a handful in a rough ponytail and tugging you back to focus on him. You wanted to say something but half your face is still pushed into the couch cushions, his hand keeping you in place.Â
SMACK.
Fuck. Your mind was blanking out, the world narrowing down to the strain of your legs while Caleb continued rutting into you like a man possessed. The sharp sting of his palm against your ass cheek only sent more heat to your groin. More⌠âAww youâre so cute like this pip-squeak. Look how wet youâre getting when I treat you like the good little slut I knew you always were. I wonder how many times your colleagues fantasize about you, wonder if they know just how depraved and dirty you really like it⌠All hidden behind this sweet face.â He released your hair, fingers sliding around to squeeze your round cheeks, forcing your lips to purse while his eyes drank in your features.Â
Without so much as a warning, Caleb is suddenly pulling out of you â the disappointing emptiness only lasting for a fraction of a second before he flipped you over and with the help of his evol, pinned you down into a mean mating press â his favorite position with you. Caleb loved to watch the way your pupils dilate into lust-blown hearts when his cock stretches you, loved even more when your legs hook over his shoulders so he could leave gentle kisses along your calf, which honestly used to be his favorite part about fucking you like this. That quickly changed when he gifted that anklet to you â yes, the one with the tracker embedded in the matching apple charm â heâd also had the foresight to include another addition to the anklet: his initials. Heâd only ever admit this to himself; something about the way he watched the letter âCâ bounce against your ankle in the same fast-paced rhythm heâd started, made his cock twitch. It was another way to mark you, filling him with prideful arrogance when he knew heâs the only privileged bastard to have their initials around your ankle. The same ankle he could hold onto when you have your legs on his shoulders. Well that was the situation until you said the very words that made the last thread of his restraint snap.Â
âBreed me Caleb.â You pant, his pendant and chain pooling on your sternum.Â
His hips stuttered, hand slamming down beside your head on the cushion while he steadied himself. âWhat did you say?âÂ
It wasnât that he didnât catch it the first time. The burning desire within Caleb had everything to do with needing to hear it again.Â
The sting of your fingernails leaving angry red marks on his back made his irregular breathing heavier, especially when youâre staring straight into his eyes with that expression that practically begged him. âBreed me, please.â
âWith fucking pleasure, pip-squeak.â Instincts took over when Caleb leaned down to nip on your luscious lower lip, making good on his promise from before. Once upon a time, youâd have sworn the noises escaping your lips were fake â no way those videos across the Internet could be onto something â Caleb, however, knew everything about your body, knew precisely how to break you down just to take his sweet time putting you together again. âCaleb-...â
âLouder. I want the whole building to hear who you belong to.â His voice is husky, fingers tight enough to leave bruises against the back of your thighs. You could feel every vein, every throb of his cock between your heated, velvety walls-
âCaleb!âÂ
He was thrusting into you with blind need, the scent of your lovemaking thick in the air punctuated by the sodden thwack thwack thwack of your bodies.
Your vision is filled with a white sunburst, your body giving into your pleasure while you keened for him. The noises you made, the expression on your face, that vulnerability of how your chest seemed to flutter while you caught your breathâŚhis. He was going to make you his. To breed you is to claim you in the most basest sense possible, no one would mistake who couldâve possibly made you swollenâŚthe cadence of your voice begging him to breed you rang in his mind again further weakening the battle of wills heâd been having with himself â the need to drag this on as long as possible, or to fill you up to the brim with ropes and ropes of his-
âFuuuuckâŚâ You purred, overwhelmed from the feel of his warm cum spilling and smearing against your inner thighs.
âY/nâŚâ The crack in his voice instinctually made you grind against him, forcing another needy moan from Caleb. You both remained that way for a few beats, catching your breath while the white ring around the base of his cock slowly dripped along his balls. He pressed his cheek against your ankle, lips brushing against the curve of the âCâ from your anklet. His. You. Are. His. Â

To build a new place without censorship:
You cannot rely on advertisers (except for potentially ones related to the sex industry, like sex toy vendors, porn sites, etc), because companies are allergic to having their brand advertise next to content that might not "reflect the (highly sanitized) ideals" of the brand (or whatever). That goes for sexual content but also violent content and hate speech, btw. Advertisers and brands care a lot about effective content moderation (and that's part of why X is losing so much money under Musk, he's bleeding advertisers).
You also cannot turn it into an app because the app store will ban it. There's no AO3 app for a reason. Tumblr removed adult content for this exact reason.
So it has to be website-only (likely with a mobile web version for visual and loading etc, but NOT an app), and it has to be funded either on memberships or on donations. It has to be consumer-funded either way. And if you allow images to be hosted on it, let alone gifs or other content formats, you are looking at increasingly high costs for servers, maintenance, etc.
And if you're not looking at it being an archive or fiction-focused, but rather a social space, then you have to consider if and how you're going to moderate hate speech or what you're going to do about the potential of neo Nazis flooding the platform. Are you going to leave it to users to block, are you going to ban users, who is going to make these decisions? If content or user moderation exists, will it be paid or volunteer? What oversight will there be?
These are just a few of the issues, but the problem is definitely, unequivocally money.
Man we did NOT know how good we had it on 2014 tumblr we had an art HUB on here with zero censorship it was such a beautiful place and now what. The entire fucking internet is censored. Now artists are scattered and too scared to post because of art theft AI and neo con teenagers obsessed with suibaiting anyone who steps out of line it is fucking WHACK where will we end up?? I miss old Tumblr and old DA with such a burning passion.
I feel so old.
Why canât we build a new place without censorship? Why did they have to ruin the entire internet? Ao3 really is the last bastion.

Money.
#y'all seem to forget that running tumblr is a 10s of millions of dollars deficit each year#even with the memberships and advertisers#ao3 is a miracle and we're so goddamn fortunate it exists#and i will donate any day to keep it in existence#like definitely do go out and build a new place#i hear pillowfort is okay and i'd be curious to check it out#but be aware of the constraints that exist#tbh if i were to make a new social platform from scratch#it would cost a certain amount just to make an account#and then there would also be paid memberships to access extra space/memory or other features#rather than relying on advertisers#and that's just to start#but i digress#phyn rambles#marketing#capitalism#censorship#the enshittification of everything#or at least of the internet#thank queue for coming

a/n: try psychoanalyzing THIS
Youâd always known you were a vengeful person.Â
From the day youâd started hating your babysitter for insulting your favorite toy, to the time youâd tried to explode your leech of a landlord with your mind every month, youâd been well aware: you did not take kindly to being wronged.Â
You had no true power of your own, noâtimid and unimposing, youâd been forced to restrict your retaliation to the hypothetical, the mental. Death wishes, prayers for misfortune, and fantasies of karma were your safe havenâthe space in your mind where no one could reach you with insult or ridicule, where the judgment of others was your sole prerogative.Â
For years, youâd lived this way, worked this way. Discredited and discarded, excluded and exploited, youâd sought comfort in your capacity to think, to imagine. To imagine retribution for those who would never be dealt itâat least, not from your inconsequential hand.Â
But this time, your mere imagination would not be enough.
For the last month, a clique of obnoxious coworkers had been harassing you nonstop, stewing in jealousy after your recent promotion. Day after day, theyâd tried to break your spirit, and day after day, they inched closer to success. The thinly veiled barbs, harsh criticisms, and shameless attempts to steal your work were eating away at you, no matter how vividly you imagined retaliating in the safety of your mind, dissolving each perpetrator to dust for their needless hostility.Â
The dam broke the day theyâd found your weak spot, launching a full-on attack on you. Not your skill, not your work, but the unchangeable traits that already kept you awake at night, wishing you could be something greater. Your shyness, your weakness, your simple approach to the worldâeverything that made you who you were, theyâd picked apart.
You donât recall how youâd gotten home that dayâonly the wings of a crow fluttering above you as you floated down the familiar streets on autopilot. Youâd stepped through the door withdrawn nearly into catatonia, recoiling from sounds and flinching from touches.Â
Sylus hadnât liked that.Â
After years of lonely independenceânot what youâd chosen but all you could handleâyouâre still adjusting to relying on someone else to preserve your honor. Especially when that person has everything you lack: an imposing form, an authoritative voice, effortless assurance, and unrivaled strength.Â
Sylus can make your hypotheticalsâyour unfulfilling, pathetic hypotheticalsâinto reality. Without lifting a finger, without breaking a sweat.Â
So when you return to his home in a shell of dejection, drained of the life youâd graciously breathed into his, thatâs precisely what he plans to do.
Someone had upset youâterribly so. The moment heâd claimed you, held your trembling, uncertain form in his, heâd set a very high price for that.

In the back room of Onychinusâs main warehouse, your body tremors in anticipation. Tonight, your defenses are more than psychological. Tonight, for the first time, youâll know the intoxicating security of capability.Â
As you wait for Sylusâs cue, your mind wanders to the aftermath of that day. Once youâd come back to him, looked into his eyes with something more than blankness, heâd approached you. Gathering you into his arms, heâd asked whatâd happenedâwhoâd happenedâpressing sweet kisses to your temple and lips whenever your voice would break.Â
Heâd holed up in his office after heâd seen you to bed, compiling all the information he could findâa lot, with his resourcesâon the three men whoâd tormented you. Their names, addresses, roles in the company, aspirationsâanything thatâd be useful in luring them to his turf.Â
And now, heâs asked you to stay out of sight and wait for his signal as he lulls his suspects with the false promise of a good deal.Â
Just as you feel the familiar impulse to flee threaten your resolve, a too-realistic caw and the steady flaps of metal wings snap you out of your thoughts. As the omnipresent crow lands on your shoulder, nuzzling your cheek in programmed affection, you walk slowly to the heavy door, steeling yourself before sliding it open.Â
In the dim light of the square room, you feel his presence before you see him, his cool authority drawing you to him like a magnet. You come to a soft stop behind his chair, draping one arm over his shoulders, the other on his chest, as he introduces you as his partner. And with a tense, shuddering breath, you tighten your grip on him as you raise your eyes to meet the men whoâd nearly broken you.Â
Apparently, though, your true reunion has been put on hold, as their careless eyes are busy ogling your body in proprietary glee.Â
When Sylus clears his throat, they seem to remember where they are and who theyâre with, and three pairs of eyes finally deign to meet yours. Almost immediately, those eyes flicker in recognition, the faces of their owners blanching with nerves. Â
And that reaction is the smoking gunâthe only evidence Sylus needs to enact their damnation.Â
In an instant, crimson ropes with black undertones snake around the menâs immobilized bodies, suspending them in midair before inching up to muffle the groans that catch in their rigid throats.Â
Rising from his seat, Sylus bends to kiss your forehead before blocking your view with his back. âDonât peek, sweetie,â he hums as he extends one large hand, dancing his index finger in a line of Xâs. As he moves, hundreds of tiny, twisting cuts appear around each manâs neck, their countless wounds dripping with thin streams of blood.Â
Completing his design, he clenches his fist, and the ropes tighten to drain their prey at a much greater volume.Â
A few seconds later and he drops his hand, the menâs half-emptied, half-alive bodies hitting the floor in one simultaneous thud.Â
From behind the broad panes of Sylusâs back, you're not supposed to see his carnage, the way his victims canât even beg him for mercy with the blood clogging their windpipes.Â
But with your hands on his narrow waist, supporting you as you peek around him in disobedience, the image of what heâs done for you and its surprisingly comfortable weight settle on your now relaxed shoulders.Â
Itâs not the mess on the floor, but the principle of his actionsâthe urgency with which he moved to avenge his own.
You want to thank him. You want to worship him.Â
Oblivious to the desire thrumming in your heart, Sylus finally turns around, ready to usher you out of the room. When he reaches for you, though, you intercept his arm, panting softly up at him with wide eyes.
Mistaking your expression as terror, he moves to step back, but you shake your head vehemently and tug him toward you, your feet firmly rooted in place on the tiled black floor.Â
Wordlessly, you paw frantically at his shirt and beltâanything that can come offâwith your usually nimble fingers trembling and clumsy from the rush of energy in your veins.Â
As you manage to undo the first button of his shirt, realization dawns on his face, lightening his stormy garnet eyes in a mix of shock and relief.Â
âYouâre a naughty little thing, arenât you?â he breathes, his large hand covering yours on his buttons and freezing your advances momentarily.Â
With an impatient huff, you look up at him and open your mouth in protest, but he speaks before you can.Â
âFor a moment, I thought I'd made you fear me again,â he admits with a shaky chuckle. âEvidently I was wrong, and although I'm glad to know thatâŚare you sure you want to do this here, sweetie?â he checks, peering down at you with a searching gaze.Â
Finding your voice, you use his loosened shirt to pull him down to your height, caressing his chiseled jaw in your hand. âI want you to take me. Here, in front of all of them. I want them to watch the man whoâll take their lives take my heart in his hands. Will you do that for me?â
Heâll do anything for you.Â
And so, softly maneuvering your body, Sylus repositions you to stand in front of him and angles your gaze to the reflective steel ceiling, not allowing the filth on the floor to enter your line of sight. He supposes they can look at youâit wonât matter for much longer, anywayâbut he refuses to let you look at them any longer, to let your intimacy be tainted by the memories of what theyâd done.Â
Slowly, he trails his unoccupied hand down to grope your full breasts, humming in approval when he feels your pebbling nipples. Pinching your right peak softly, he murmurs into your left ear, surrounding you on all sides. âYou like what Iâve done, I presume? Are you pleased with me?âÂ
Moaning softly, you arch back into him, pushing your chest further into his welcoming hand. Tilting your head back as far as his iron grip allows, you turn your face to brush his cheek as his fingers continue working your aching nipple. âItâs not what youâve done to them,â you breathe against him, âitâs what youâve done for me.âÂ
With another moan, you rock your hips back between his legs, feeling the sizable bulge that grows harder with each reaction you give him.Â
With the strength in his one free hand, the other still aiming your gaze toward the ceiling, he tears the front of your flimsy dress open, your breasts spilling out in smooth bounces.Â
Sylus groans deeply at the visual, his palm coming up to grope and knead your tender flesh between his calloused fingers.Â
âTell me,â he whispers, pressing a kiss to the pulse in your neck. âHow should I take you, hmm? Hard and fast, so they know I pace you, or slow and deep, so my love is clear?â
Leaving your breast with a last tug at your nipple, he lowers his hand to dip his fingers under the hem of your exposed panties, gliding between your glistening folds. Extending two long digits, he slips them into your fluttering entrance, sliding in and out with ease from the intensity of your arousal.Â
As he pumps his fingers inside you, your walls clenching around him in search of something larger, youâre barely able to formulate a response. Luckily, your answer is simple.
âEverything,â you moan to him. âEverything you can give meâI want it all.âÂ
With a rumbling groan, Sylus gives you a final deep thrust with his fingers, dragging them inside your walls to collect all of your essence. Pulling them out of you with a wet pop, he swiftly sticks them in his mouth, swirling his tongue around the digits as he savors your taste. Standing up on your toes, you push your mouth to his, slipping your tongue past his lips to steal whatâs left of your flavor. A string of saliva connects you as you part, only snapping when Sylus shifts to free the heavy bulge from his straining slacks.Â
Mewling, you try to push your hips back, desperately searching for whatever friction you can find. But with a light tap to your hip, he holds you in place, thwarting your attempt to bring him closer. âBe patient for me, wonât you?â he asks. âIâve wanted you like this for so longâsurely youâll let me lead?â
And although youâve vowed against letting anyone lead you, letting anyone take charge of you lest you get burned, you remember the power heâd gifted you only an hour ago, the writhing bodies still littering the floor behind you. His grand display of care, devotion, and understanding. Without a second thought, you find yourself nodding frantically in his embrace, his hand on your jaw briefly loosening with the force.Â
With a soft, unnecessary apology, you still, allowing yourself to fall pliant in his hands. Against your ear, you feel his lips curl into a smile.
âEyes up,â he whispers as he sinks into you.
The intrusion is slow, and thanks to the wetness leaking out of you, you suction in his oversized length with only a slight discomfort. With a gentle push, he fully seats himself inside you, and you both release a breathy moanâyours at the wholeness, his at the tightness.
After one sublime moment, your bodies almost merged with your closeness, he pulls out slowly, leaving just the head of his shaft inside you before surging forward in an all-encompassing thrust. Mouth falling open, you unconsciously tilt your hips back to meet him, and he growls his approval.Â
âIâll give you everything,â he rumbles with another deep thrust. âEverything you want, everyone you want it done toâthatâs my promise to you,â he vows, biting your ear. âNot a single being will harm you without paying the priceâthe price they pay as they look up at us with their last glances, wishing with all they have left to be in my place instead.âÂ
As he speaks, he quickens his measured strokes into powerful snaps of his hipsâpacing you, just as heâd said. His promise and his movements are all too much, and you feel a sweet ache start to spread within your lower belly.Â
Trying and failing to match his bruising thrusts, you babble out your admiration, the words that have circled your brain since heâd first told you his plans.Â
âThank you,â you pant, drawing in shuddering breaths. âI-I know I shut down on you sometimes, but Iâm not used to having someone to care for meâhaving someone who can. Iâve only ever protected myself, a-and only ever in my head. Iâm not strong enough, or assertive enough, to do anything you do for me and I love you so much for itâlove you so much that Iâm jealous of you, and it only makes me love you more,â you finish with a whimper.Â
At your confession, Sylus grips your hip in his hand and fucks into you with renewed fervor, jostling every part of your body but your head, still securely angled toward the sky. The pounding starts a quake in your legs, and you slump into his strong chest, entrusting yourself to him as he pushes you both over the edge. With a few more sharp thrusts and a stinging bite on your neck, he spills into you in thick, hot spurts, and the sensation has you gushing around him. With an unrestrained cry, you dig your nails into his arm, and he presses impossibly closer to you.
âHowever much you think you love me, know that it hardly compares to the obsession I feel towards you.âÂ
As youâre lost in the pleasure of your joint release, murky red and black wisps coil around the figures twitching on the floor, enshrouding them in an eerie haze. With near inaudible crackles, they erode the forgotten flesh of their targets, twisting and curling, bending and snapping, until the floor is cleared of sin.Â
Sylus, whoâd captured your attention with a devoted kiss in the comedown of your orgasm, slowly releases you once his work is done. Breathless, you hover near his mouth, eager to ask for more, when you notice his firm grip has left your jawâyouâre free to look as you please.Â
With his length still inside you, pulsing softly and coated with your combined essence, you twist in his arms, expecting the lifeless shapes on the floor to sully the peace of the moment, to resurface the desolation in you that'd led to their demise.Â
But as you peer down at the shiny black tiles, you see nothing but yourselvesâa smaller figure entwined in the consuming embrace of a much larger one.
âHow do you feel?â a deep voice purrs into your ear. Craning your neck to look at its pleased owner, you sensually press yourself back, burying his already hardening length deeper into its nest. With a soft smile, you claim his lips in an unhurried kiss, tender and reverent and lewd.
When you pull away, he splays a possessive hand over your abdomen. He rests his chin atop your head as he resumes his pumps in and out of you, gradually quickening his controlled movements.Â
Fluttering your eyes closed, you breathe in with contentment. The air around you has grown a little lighter with the deletion of those whoâd dared to waste it.

"Morningside Park, a beloved neighborhood park in Miami with sweeping views of Biscayne Bay, will soon pilot an innovative approach to coastal resilience.
BIOCAP tiles, a 3D-printed modular system designed to support marine life and reduce wave impact along urban seawalls, will be installed on the existing seawall there in spring 2025. BIOCAP stands for Biodiversity Improvement by Optimizing Coastal Adaptation and Performance.
Developed by our team of architects and marine biologists at Florida International University, the uniquely textured prototype tiles are designed to test a new approach for helping cities such as Miami adapt to rising sea levels while simultaneously restoring ecological balance along their shorelines...
Ecological costs of traditional seawalls
Seawalls have long served as a primary defense against coastal erosion and storm surges. Typically constructed of concrete and ranging from 6 to 10 feet in height, they are built along shorelines to block waves from eroding the land and flooding nearby urban areas.
However, they often come at an ecological cost. Seawalls disrupt natural shoreline dynamics and can wipe out the complex habitat zones that marine life relies on.
Marine organisms are crucial in maintaining coastal water quality by filtering excess nutrients, pollutants and suspended particles. A single adult oyster can filter 20-50 gallons of water daily, removing nitrogen, phosphorus and solids that would otherwise fuel harmful algal blooms. These blooms deplete oxygen levels and damage marine ecosystems.
Filter-feeding organisms also reduce turbidity, which is the cloudiness of water caused by suspended sediment and particles. Less water turbidity means more light can penetrate, which benefits seagrasses that require sunlight for photosynthesis. These seagrasses convert carbon dioxide into oxygen and energy-rich sugars while providing essential food and habitat for diverse marine species.
Swirling shapes, shaded grooves
Unlike the flat, lifeless surfaces of typical concrete seawalls, each BIOCAP tile is designed with shaded grooves, crevices and small, water-holding pockets. These textured features mimic natural shoreline conditions and create tiny homes for barnacles, oysters, sponges and other marine organisms that filter and improve water quality.
The tileâs swirling surface patterns increase the overall surface area, offering more space for colonization. The shaded recesses are intended to help regulate temperature by providing cooler, more stable microenvironments. This thermal buffering can support marine life in the face of rising water temperatures and more frequent heat events driven by climate change.
Another potential benefit of the tiles is reducing the impact of waves.
When waves hit a natural shoreline, their energy is gradually absorbed by irregular surfaces, tide pools and vegetation. In contrast, when waves strike vertical concrete seawalls, the energy is reflected back into the water rather than absorbed. This wave reflection â the bouncing back of wave energy â can amplify wave action, increase erosion at the base of the wall and create more hazardous conditions during storms.
The textured surfaces of the BIOCAP tiles are designed to help diffuse wave energy by mimicking the natural dissipation found on undisturbed shorelines.
The design of BIOCAP takes cues from nature. The tile shapes are based on how water interacts with different surfaces at high tide and low tide. Concave tiles, which curve inward, and convex tiles, which curve outward, are installed at different levels along the seawall. The goal is to deflect waves away from the seawall, reduce direct impact and help minimize erosion and turbulence around the wallâs foundation.A
How we will measure success
After the BIOCAP tiles are installed, we plan to assess how the seawall redesign enhances biodiversity, improves water quality and reduces wave energy. This two-year pilot phase will help assess the long-term value of ecologically designed infrastructure.
To evaluate biodiversity, we will use underwater cameras to capture time-lapse imagery of the marine life that colonizes the tile surfaces. These observations will aid in documenting species diversity and habitat use over time...
In the coming year, weâll be watching with hope as the new BIOCAP tiles begin to welcome marine life, offering a glimpse into how nature might reclaim and thrive along our urban shorelines.

âHey! Where the hell have you been? I know you said work has been busy in the group chat butâŚâ She trailed off, her playful and teasing expression shattered when she saw my face.
And that was the last straw, I guess, as I unceremoniously burst into tears on the sidewalk outside of the cafe. Clara held me in her arms as I sobbed, with Mac and Liz helping to herd us into some quiet corner and order our drinks.
A few sips into an industrially made double espresso with mint syrup and I was feeling human again. As human as I could be given the circumstances. Clara helped settle down the quills that ruffled my hair, carding her fingers through the tangles left from sleepless nights.
âWhat happened?â Mac was the one that finally asked, his voice soft as he slid a bagel over to me. After all this time he still remembered how I once insisted on exchanges for information.
âThey came back. Theyâre home.â My voice still felt raw, echoing in my skull as I worked to keep my tongue in human language. When Clara and Liz exchanged a confused look, I continued. âMy familyâs home. My mom, my brother, two sisters.â I swallowed another mouthful of too-hot coffee. It didnât burn as much as I wanted it to.
âWhat?â Macâs voice cracked, a rough cough returning him to his smoother register. âWhat the hell? I thought - I knew you still talked to them but like, what the actual hell?â
âItâs complicated.â I dropped my head, holding it in my hands. âIâm just - itâs overwhelming.â
âThe good kind or the bad kind?â
âClare, is there ever a good kind of overwhelming?â
âYou know what I mean - like,â she turned to me as she continued, âare you happy theyâre home?â
Was I?
âIâm notâŚmad that theyâre home.â
âBut...?â
âI canât keep this up.â I dropped my voice to a whisper. âBut I canât just - just kick them out on the street either.â
âYou donât have to - isnât it, like, a sin for your folk to overstay their welcome? I thought manners were super strict over there.â
âI donât think they can go back.â I shot Mac a nervous glance. âHave you been able to get in contact with anyone beyond the veil lately?â There was a flicker of anxiety in his eyes as he shrugged.
âNo. I - I just thought the veil was too thick this time of year.â He glanced around the cafe, voice dropping an octave. âHave you tried calling your dad?â
My laugh was bitter but barely lasted a breath. I hadnât thought to try a summons. To be fair, I hadnât been thinking much beyond the ever present threat of my brother burning down the house in his sleep or my sister adding rat poison instead of fish pellets to the aquarium.
âItâs just been - itâs been a lot. I donât think he could help, even if he wanted to.â As powerful as an archfae was, even his power was bound to his realm.
And mom hadnât mentioned him at all since she came home. Which didnât seem like a good sign.
The silence that lapsed over the table was comfortable, lattes cooling and tea steeping bitter. Anxiety crept into my bones. Had I over shared? Gods, they probably had their own bullshit family problems they were dealing with and I was being an asshole and a whiny bitch for making it all about me -
âOh fuck off.â Liz threw a balled up napkin at me, hitting me straight in the face. I was so stressed and overtaxed I forgot my warding runes at home. Damn psychics. âWhat did all of you do when I was in the hospital dying âcause my immune system shit the bed and my feeding tube was blocked?â
âWeâŚtook turns taking care of your cat and visited you when we could.â I furrowed my brow, confused. âWhat does that have to do with - â
âMac, what did they do for you when you broke both legs, while shifted on a full moon two states away, and animal control caught you?â Across the table, Macâs eyes sparked with an understanding I couldnât grasp yet.
âYou drove like hell, charmed three different cops, and let me sleep in the back of your car even though I shed and you hate vacuuming.â His toothy smirk tossed the question to Clara, who took my hand under the table and squeezed it gently.
âYouâve always been there for me. Even after my folks kicked me out, even before they knew. Youâve always been here for us.â She wrapped a heavy arm over my shoulders, and I let myself sigh into her embrace. âLet us be here for you. Alright?â
It wasnât like they were going to give me much of a choice.
âWhat was it you told me when we were building that chicken coop? âLift with your legs and for fuckâs sake donât carry it alone if it feels too heavy.ââ
âYeah, well thatâs because you threw your back out. Twice, you dumb dog.â There were still tears in my voice, but I felt better as I looked around my friends with a contented sigh. Mac feigning offense, Liz offering exaggerated comfort from her chair, and Claraâs warm, human hand in mine.
The burden was heavy, but many hands made light work.

All of your siblings, papart from you, have attended a prestigious wizarding school. Now, after all these years, theyâre back in your âregularâ world⌠and donât even know how an oven works.
