Eloise and Phillip’s Children
Sir and Lady Crane had five children with the older two being from Sir Crane’s first marriage: Amanda, Oliver, Penelope (better known as Penny), Georgiana, and Frederick. Amanda was the eldest, by seven minutes, and preferred to stay out of the spotlight. She grew out of troublemaking ways by the age of ten, although they never fully left her. Amanda was also the one Bridgerton granddaughter not to take a season, but it wasn’t a worry. She found her match in a neighbor’s cousin. Oliver was the eldest son and the second eldest. His troublemaking ways stayed with him a lot longer than they did his sister and he was always down to cause a little bit of a scene. He was, perhaps, an unusual choice but still eligible and eventually gave his heart to a merchant’s daughter, much to the ton’s displeasure. Penny could usually be found with her cousin and best friend, Agatha Bridgerton. They were inseparable, until it came to finding their matches. Penny fell for a duke… who also happened to be a fourth son. Georgiana was the most introverted of the Crane children, inheriting her father’s temperament. She became a sort of wallflower, but was still considered a good match as she was, after all, a Bridgerton by blood. However, Georgiana refused to bend when she fell in love with a viscount (and earl’s heir), who was rumored to be illiterate. Frederick was the youngest and that could be innately obvious at moments. He was a barrister, although he also had a wild side and eventually fell in love with an earl’s daughter.

Amanda Mary Crane
Born in 1816, Amanda’s middle name was a play on her mother’s name. It was her father’s idea, just as he made the suggestion that Oliver’s middle name be George.
Amanda is the older twin and never lets Oliver forget that. Much to her displeasure, he ends up taller than her.
Amanda outgrows pranking shortly after her sister, Georgiana is born. However, she will still get into prank wars with Oliver. It’s part of how they love each other.
Amanda had a revolving door of interests, and tends to find a new one every few months. She’s been interested in botany, zoology, architecture, Roman history and more.
Amanda also finds that she really enjoys writing. She ends up writing a diary, which isn’t something she shares with people. However, she does end up gifting it to a granddaughter who she sees as a kindred spirit.
Amanda is also rather close with her cousin, Caroline Basset. They just clicked.
Amanda married Charles Farraday in 1840, when she was twenty-four and he was twenty-seven. Parts of their love story can be found in the second epilogue of To Sir Phillip With Love.
Tumblr media
Oliver George Crane
Born in 1816, Oliver is very light-hearted. He’s always made it his mission to lighten the mood, which is usually accomplished by jokes and pranks. It takes him a while to grow out of the pranks, which truly occurs shortly after his little brother, Frederick is born. He never truly grows out of pranks, though.
Oliver never lets Amanda forget that he’s the taller twin.
Oliver loves having cousins. He’s in-between Edmund Bridgerton and Miles Bridgerton and David Basset in age, so he doesn’t have a very close cousin. However, he is good friends with all three boys, even if he brings out the worst in Edmund.
Oliver does not enjoy his time at school. For him, the only saving grace is that his friendship grows with his cousins and he makes other friends. In a modern AU, Oliver would probably have a mild case of ADHD.
Oliver falls in love with Alice Linfield, a merchant’s daughter. She is from a middle class family that can afford to mingle with the ton. Alice is one of the few people who can understand Oliver’s impulse to lighten the mood but can also call him out.
Oliver married Alice in 1847, when he was thirty-one and she was twenty-four. They have one of the larger age gaps.
Oliver and Alice have four daughters, Victoria, Adelia, Vinnie and Zadie. Victoria Alice Crane is two years older than Adelia Eloise Crane. Adelia is three years older than Lavinia Amanda “Vinnie” Crane, who is four years older than Zadie Marina Crane.
Tumblr media
Penelope Violet “Penny” Crane
Born in 1825, Penny’s temperament is a combination of her parents’. She is generally fairly even-keeled, but can also lose her temper easily. In addition, she is a hopeless romantic and is not something people expect from her.
Penny’s godfather is Anthony and her godmother is Francesca.
Penny is quite close with her cousin, Agatha Bridgerton. They are almost like a Penloise 2.0, with fewer secrets. It never fails to amuse their mothers, and grandmother. However, she also really looks up to her older cousin, Amelia Basset.
Appearance wise, Penny looks like Eloise and therefore a Bridgerton.
Penny has a wild and fun-loving side, which often masks the personality traits that she inherited from Phillip. However, Penny embraces all of it.
Penny marries Christopher “Kit” Barrington, the Duke of Morcott. He also happens to be a fourth son, which means there’s all sorts of rumors swirling around Kit while they’re courting.
Penny married Christopher in 1849, when she was twenty-four and he was twenty-eight.
Penny and Christopher have five children, Alexandra, Hugo, Matthew, Robbie, and Viola. Their eldest child is a daughter named Alexandra Eloise Barrington, who is two years older than the twins, Hugo Christopher Phineas Barrington and Matthew Phillip Ambrose Barrington. The twins are four years older than Robert John Edmund “Robbie” Barrington. Robbie is three years older than Viola Penelope Barrington.
Tumblr media
Georgiana Eloise Crane
Born in 1826, Georgiana has her father’s temperament. She’s introverted, somewhat awkward, and generally fairly even keeled. She also has her father’s love of botany and plants. Georgiana is also closer to Phillip.
Georgiana’s godfather is Benedict and her godmother is Penelope.
As a child, Georgiana often trailed after her sister, Penelope, and cousin, Agatha Bridgerton. They rarely let Georgiana join in, despite the fact that Georgiana was only a year younger than them.
She is a wallflower during her entire time as a debutante. However, she does manage to form her own friend group with two other wallflower debutantes.
Georgiana and Eloise are often at odds with one another. Their arguments really hit fever pitch during Georgiana’s courtship with Viscount Wivenly.
Georgiana falls in love with Lucas Wivenly, a viscount. He’s an heir (and former spare) to an earl, and also has dyslexia. However, because this is the mid-1800s, no one knows what dyslexia is and there are many rumors swirling around Lucas’s struggles with reading and related-tasks. Eloise does not like Lucas at first. Phillip thinks that Lucas is a good man and that Georgiana truly cares for Lucas.
Georgiana married Lucas in 1850, when she was 24 and he was 27.
Georgiana and Lucas have two sons named Nicholas Phillip Edmund Wivenly and Isaac Lucas Benedict Wivenly. Nicholas is two years older than Isaac.
Tumblr media
Frederick Phillip Anthony Crane
Born in 1829, Frederick reminds his grandmother of his Uncle Colin. He’s jovial, friendly, and troublesome. He also has his uncle’s massive appetite. In addition, Frederick has Eloise’s temperament and takes after her more so than Phillip in personality.
Frederick’s godfather is Colin and his godmother is Daphne.
Frederick is older than his cousins, Richard Bridgerton and John Stirling by approximately two months. He is also extremely close with Richard and John, forming a trio with similar roles and personalities to their uncles ABC with Frederick being Colin, John Benedict, and Richard Anthony.
His siblings, parents, and grandmother are the only ones Frederick lets call him “Freddie.” Eventually, his wife is added to that list.
Frederick becomes a barrister. He decides that he would like to try and help those who are less fortunate for him. Frederick also has a strong sense of honor, something he inherited from both parents.
Frederick falls in love with Lady Beatrice Winslow, an earl’s daughter. Their match happens quite slowly, as Richard Bridgerton marries Beatrice’s twin sister and John Stirling marries Beatrice’s close friend. They are both a bit oblivious about their growing feelings over the two seasons that occur prior to their courtship beginning.
Frederick married Beatrice in 1857, when he was 28 and she was 24.
Frederick and Beatrice have two children, Louis and Dotty. Their eldest is a son named Louis Phillip Frederick Crane, while their youngest is a daughter named Theadosia Beatrice “Dotty” Crane.

Farts, Charlie, Will and Alex
Word count: 444
This for a bit longer…
Giggling fits
There was nothing funnier to a group of young boys than when someone farted and god help them, they were trying their hardest not to giggle.
Stood in the church as they watched their little sister getting Christened, their Uncle Hugh being the one conducting the Christening.
Charlie, Alex and Will were standing with their cousins all of them fighting back the fits of giggles as they heard the little squeak coming from someone’s bottom. They had no idea who it was as the church was full of people from the village.
Alex, the one who was always in trouble was almost blue in the face as he fought back the giggles. His mama had promised him they could go look at David Crabtree’s new litter of puppies if he behaved all the way through the christening and was as quiet as a church mouse.
It was the hardest thing in his 4 years of life that he had ever had to do.
Charlie was holding his sides as he had tears in his little eyes as he fought back and William was leaning into Charlotte giggling into her shoulder.
It was only as the room went quiet and it happened again, this time louder that their resistance broke. Edmund and Auggie were the one who went first and once he started giggling, the rest of the boys all broke down into fits of giggles with Amanda, Charlotte, Belinda and Caroline all looking horrified at their cousins and siblings as they broke down completely.
“My Apologies Mr and Mrs Bridgerton” came a lone voice from the back of the Church, one of the parishioners looking completely horrified that it had happened as Benedict chuckled as another one was let rip
“It is all right Mr Dawson, I was under the impression it was little Violet here making such a noise so to know it was you, is a relief. Are we alright boys?” he asked amused at the group of boys who were rolling around on the floor, laughing so hard that Hugh had to stop the christening and allow for all the boys a chance to catch their breath…
Once they started again, Alex apparently forgot his promise to his Mama and had learned a new trick curtsey of his Uncle Colin, and as the christening came to an end his put his arm under his armpit and Pfffttt
Which set all the boys back off again, and even Benedict tried to fight back the laughter but the look from his wife, stopped him short and Alex had to wait an extra two weeks before he was allowed to go look at the puppies.

Pierre's Comedy Special HALF/TRUTHS Streaming On HypePlusTV.com
youtube
LOS ANGELES/ATLANTA - Tired of being misjudged and constantly proving himself in the Black community, biracial comedian and actor, Pierre Edwards (Pierre), speaks his truth in a witty stand-up micro-special on race titled “HALF/TRUTHS.” The thought-provoking film was released last week with the soft launch of Comedy Hype’s new streaming platform, HypePlusTV.com.
“HALF/TRUTHS” provides the audience with a glimpse of a very real and raw Pierre as he jokes about challenges he experienced when, at 11 years old, his German mother and African American father shipped him away from the comforts of his nonracial life in Germany, to live with his Black family in race-obsessed Washington, DC.
“I came from Germany. I had long flowing hair. I looked like Prince on his first album—wasn’t a good look in the hood,” Pierre tells the audience. “My cousin would get his hair cut, I went to get mine “did”. It was a difference. I couldn’t go to a barbershop, none of my pictures was on the wall. I had to bring in a Right On Magazine with Janet Jackson from Different Strokes, I want this look.”
Jon Aba, CEO of Comedy Hype, notes, “The mission of our company since day one has been about empowering ourselves and those around us. We’ve been fortunate to turn our partnership with Pierre into one that continues to grow.”
Pierre’s comedic credentials go back to appearing on the first year of HBO's Def Comedy Jam, BET’s Comic View, Showtime at the Apollo, and Martin Lawrence Presents 1st Amendment Stand-Up. He has headlined at premiere comedy clubs including Carolines on Broadway in New York City, Uptown Comedy Corner in Atlanta, and at international venues in Japan, South Africa, and throughout Europe. On the acting front, the man that renovates homes as a hobby, played the boyfriend of Academy Award-winning actress, Halle Berry, in “B. A. P.s,” alongside Bill Bellamy in “How to be a Player,” and he wrote, directed and starred in the urban classic, “For Da Love of Money.”
Tumblr media
“HALF/TRUTHS” was produced by Comedy Hype’s production arm Hype+ in association with Urban Genius Productions and Lott Lizard Productions, directed by Jaron Marquis, and written by Pierre. Upcoming Hype+ projects include films featuring comedians Doug Williams and Tyler Craig, and a television show.
With studios in Atlanta and Los Angeles, Comedy Hype came from humble beginnings and is rooted in tenacity and hustle. It was founded as an urban news blog in 2009 by Aba while living at his grandmother’s house and has evolved into the popular Comedy Hype YouTube Channel with nearly a million loyal subscribers and a daily news show averaging over 100 thousand views per show. Their new streaming platform, hypeplustv.com, will expand beyond comedy. In addition to interviews with popular comedians like Amanda Seales, Affion Crocket, and Don DC Curry, the site will feature a broad range of film projects and conversations with musicians, actors and other celebrity influencers.
Watch “HALF/TRUTHS” at www.hypeplustv.com, To keep up with Pierre you can check him out on his Youtube podcast, “Pierre’s Panic Room” and @ComicPierre on social media. For more information about Comedy Hype and Hype+ check @ComedyHype on all social media.

The Return
It's been 2 years since you were last in Dublin. 2 years since you up and left without warning, saying goodbye to your life there and restarting somewhere completely new. Sometimes, you have to go backwards in order to move forwards.
Requested by @noctvrnalmoth I hope you like it!
*Featuring Jim from the Delinquent Season*
Stepping off the train into the platform, you sighed. It all looked the same, and yet so different. Pulling the buggy open, you gently strapped your sleeping son in and made your way to the taxi rank, your suitcase trailing behind you. A kind lady helped you with your bags and waited with you for an available taxi.
"You look like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders there, are you okay?" She sat next to you on the bench as your son murmured adorably in his sleep. "Sorry, I don't mean to pry..."
"No don't be sorry.. just been a long time since I came back here is all. Few loose ends to tie up." You glanced at your son's sleepy features as his eyes started to open. Beautiful, ocean blue eyes alongside his dark hair, growing more every day... The memories of that night flooding back before you took a large gulp of water from the bottle in your bag, forcing them back down. You'd done so well... 2 years and you'd built a new life in London. New friends, amazing new job allowing you to put that degree in marketing to good use - you were finally making a complete fresh start. But the secrets you had buried deep inside kept coming to the surface the more your son grew. He deserved to know his roots, who his father was, you knew that, but you couldn't do it.
Choking a tear back, you thanked the kind lady for helping you as a taxi pulled up and she helped you to get in.
Pulling up outside your cousin Natalie's townhouse in the city centre, she was waiting for you at the gate to help with Jackson and your bags. Grinning from ear to ear she pulled you in for a huge hug once you'd got inside and settled on her couch as Jackson sat in this new lady's lap tugging at her earrings.
"I can't believe I'm only just meeting him y/n.. he's the image of you!!" She kissed his cheek, bringing him up to look at him properly for the first time not over Skype.
"I never see it, I just see.... I just see him I guess..." You mind wandered to the man you actually saw, but you didn't let it slip.
"Those EYES!!! So blue and vibrant, just beautiful!" Natalie was swooning now, she'd never seen eyes that blue on a baby. Your eyes were brown, so he clearly inherited them from his father, although you had never revealed his identity - just a drunken one night stand and he wasn't involved. You weren't lying, technically...
After catching up properly, Natalie told you she'd planned a few people coming over to welcome you back that evening - nothing major, just a few friends from years ago that were keen to see you after so long away.
"Oh.. yes, that would be nice... Um, who's coming?"
"Well I think David and Amanda, possibly Caroline.. I think Liam is asking Jim too but I'm not sure if he's up for it - he's been through a tough time lately.." you caught a gasp in your throat at the sound of his name. Last you heard, through Natalie, he and Danielle were going through a rough patch. Cheating accusations on both sides, they'd agreed to a trial separation. "Apparently she isn't as broken hearted as once thought - already shacked up with someone new, fancy house on the coast, new Jag on the driveway, she's doing quite well for herself!" Your chin began to wobble, not unnoticed by Natalie, who placed Jackson in his bouncer on the floor and moved to place a hand on your shoulder.
"I'm fine Nat, honestly I'm good. It was a long time ago, things have changed. I'm not that silly little girl with a crush anymore..." Natalie looked into your eyes. Nothing ever got past her.
"Y/n.. when I said I'd never seen eyes that blue, I meant on a baby. Only one person I know has eyes like that, and I think you know too. Tell me the truth, please?" You were frozen, until tears escaped and you couldn't stop them. Jackson looked to see his mum crying and began crying too. Scooping him up, you held him close.
"It happened once... Just once Nat... And he doesn't know and he doesn't need to know, let's just leave it there, yeah?"
"What?? This is Jim's son? I was almost kidding y/n... How could you keep this from him for 2 years??" She was stood up now in complete shock. Jim wasn't just her friend, he was her husband's brother - this made things even more intense. The atmosphere could be cut with a knife.
"Please Nat... This wasn't easy okay? I was 21, I slept with a married man, and I got pregnant... Then mum died.. I had to go back to London to sort out the funeral and the will... I didn't want to be seen as the homewrecker that got herself knocked up..."
"And what about Jackson? Doesn't he deserve to know his father?"
"Of course... And he would.. when I was ready Nat. And I'm not ready..."
"Not ready for what?" Liam, Natalie's husband was stood in the doorway, as you heard the front door close. Now standing next to him was the man you were desperately trying to avoid... Jim stood behind him, eyes wide at the sight of you with a baby in your arms.
"Baby, we need to go pick up that delivery from the post office, remember the one we missed last week?" Natalie pulled a confused Liam out of the room, leaving his brother and you alone.
"Y/n... Hey.. um.. how are you?" You tried to smile in response but your heart was pounding in your chest, you could barely breathe.
"I.. yeah.. um, yeah I'm okay.." you glanced down at his hand.. the wedding ring was gone. "I'm sorry to hear about you and Olivia..."
"Probably for the best eh... We weren't exactly getting along, just stayed together for the kids I think. They're older now though, they're fine. Y/n.. where did you go? Why did you go?"
"My mum was ill... She'd had a stroke and they couldn't save her, I had to go... I just stayed.. and things happened.."
"You had a baby..." He looked at the little boy in your arms, feeling extremely nervous now. "He must be just over a year old, right?" You nodded.
"13 months.."
"And we... We had sex y/n.. the day before you left..." His own breath was faltering now as the dates in his mind started to catch up. Again, you nodded, tears rolling down your cheeks. The realisation of what was happening dawned on Jim. He started to back away, before shaking his head and storming out of the house, the door slamming behind him making you and your son jump.
Your sobs came out in full force now, Liam and Natalie coming back into the room. Liam took Jackson into the kitchen to find him something to eat as Natalie held you.
"It's okay y/n... Give him time yeah? Poor guys just had the shock of his life, he'll come round." Your heart was sinking.. you hadn't meant for any of this to happen, but here it was. The memory of that afternoon had never left you, you hadn't even been able to move on - your son, for starters, looked just like him, how could you find love with anyone with the constant reminder of the man you'd never have around you 24/7.
Flashback
"I'm so sorry Jim, I didn't know who else to call..." You climbed into his car, cheeks burning as he picked you up from outside the pharmacy. You'd been walking along the road when a pothole in the pavement took you by surprise and you'd tripped, your ankle turning funny - the pain was horrific, but no one seemed to be answering your phone calls when you rang around for someone to come pick you up. Reluctantly, you'd dialled Jim's number, your cousin's brother in law. He'd given you his number the previous week, after offering to help you move into your new apartment later that month.
"No problem, I was just dropping the kids at school so I was only round the corner." He helped you into the car and drove you back to his house. "I figured your place is in boxes, no chance of a first aid kit either, I'm guessing?"
"No," You laughed. "Thank you so much.." you grimaced as you turned your foot round, trying to ease the pain.
"Definitely not broken, just need to rest it. I'll put the kettle on." Jim led you into the kitchen and sat you down at the kitchen table, and grabbed an ice pack from the fridge. Lifting your leg onto the chair opposite, he placed the ice pack onto your ankle. "Feeling okay?" He asked, flicking the kettle on and preparing two mugs of coffee.
"Much better.. thank you." Definitely better.. the physical contact from him was driving you insane, you had to swallow the blushes in your cheeks, praying he hadn't noticed.
"I've only got instant coffee... Hope that's okay - Danielle won't let me buy a coffee machine." He rolled his eyes. His wife was one of the tightest women he'd ever met.
"It's fine, thank you.. and I honestly can't thank you enough for coming to get me.. I can't believe how clumsy I am!"
"Hey those pavements are a nightmare - I'm surprised no one's broken a leg yet! Don't you be moving now, I'll take you back home once that swelling has gone down."
"How did you know how to fix it all?"
"I have a son, y/n, who at one stage a few years ago thought he was an actual superhero and would fling himself off anything to check if he could fly.. you learn the difference between a broken ankle and a twisted one pretty quick!" He laughed, remembering the time his son climbed the tallest tree in the park, giving him a heart attack before throwing himself from the top - luckily Jim caught him before he hit the floor.
"I think it's better now, Jim, I can try and walk." You said, after chatting for a while in the large kitchen.
"Let me help you.." he held your hands and guided you upright, your chests now pressed together as you placed your foot gingerly on the floor, testing it's strength. Stumbling slightly, Jim caught you, your bodies now even closer together. You could feel his heart racing, could he feel yours? His hands wrapping around yours, holding you up, an arm snaking round your waist. You looked up and found him looking right back at you, your face inches from his. Before you had time to think, you kissed him, before quickly pulling back.
"Shit I'm sorry... Oh god.. no... I'm sorry..." He took your hand in his and pulled you back to him, pressing his lips back to yours. This time you didn't pull back, your mouth opening allowing his tongue to dance against yours. Lifting you up, he sat you on top of the counter, his hands roaming your body hungrily.
"I can't... I shouldn't..." He murmured against your neck, the vibrations driving you wild with need. "You're so fucking beautiful y/n..." He ground your hips against yours, you could feel his erection through his jeans as you reached down to cup it through them, kneading it slightly. He growled, pulling your hand up to his chest, his heart hammering underneath his shirt. "You feel that? Feel how fast that's going?" Silently you took his hand and placed against your chest.
"Feel mine...." You pushed his hand down lower.. over your breast... Down your stomach and under the waistband of your skirt. His fingers found your folds, and he gasped your name. "I'm wet... I'm so fucking wet..." Lifting your skirt up, he pulled your underwear down. You relieved him of his jeans and they fell to the floor, revealing no underwear, just his huge, hard cock already leaking.
"I see you are too..." You ran a finger along the slit, taking some of the precum and lifting it to your mouth. "You taste good..."
"You want this...?" He asked, lining himself up against you. You nodded, and he pushed in easily, you gasped his name and threw your head back as he filled you completely. Pulling on your hips, he rocked you against him as he moved his own hips back and forth, fucking you against the countertop. You legs wrapped round his waist as his thrusts came harder, deeper, faster.
"Fuck... Right there... Jim... Oh god...." He bit down on your exposed neck, hands pushing against your still covered breasts, he moaned.
"Feels so good y/n... You feel so good... That's it baby, I need to feel you... Cum for me..." You leaned back, and eyes locked with his you drew a hand down to circle your clit as he moved inside you.
"Gonna make myself cum on you... Gonna cum hard for you... Faster Jim..." He pounded into you now, your moans echoing through the kitchen as you came over him, his release following seconds later. Both of you leaned your heads together as your worlds came back into focus.
Present Day
"Hey."
"Hey.." you'd agreed to meet Jim for a coffee a few days later. He'd called you the evening before, slightly tipsy which made you chuckle. Liam and Natalie were watching Jackson while the two of you caught up.
"How's the hangover?" You smiled, he grimaced.
"Well I've definitely felt fresher.. it was a bit of a shock y/n..."
"Listen.. for what it's worth.. I'm sorry. I didn't know I was pregnant until I was nearly 20weeks. With the stress of losing mum and the funeral, I hadn't had a period for a while but I thought it was just the stress.. then my friend convinced me to take a test and the doctors confirming it.. it was too late to do anything about it.. then I heard you and Danielle were trying for another baby and I just couldn't do it Jim.. I couldn't destroy your life like that.." your hands were shaking. He leaned over and took your hands in his.
"I understand y/n.. I do. I spent most of this week thinking about it. I don't blame you for what you did.. but I do wish you'd told me."
"I'd done enough damage Jim, sleeping with a married man? On his kitchen counter where he makes his kids breakfast? Where his wife makes her coffee in the morning? I couldn't face you.. I couldn't face what I'd done.."
"You know where my wife was, that morning?" He leaned back, smiling a little. "At her office, bent over the desk while her boss fucked her from behind. She called my number by accident while it happened. I didn't answer, obviously, I was busy.. but my voicemail picked up the whole thing. I'd had my suspicions for a long time, but that confirmed it. We were never trying for another baby - that's just what she told people to distract them from the fact we were clearly falling apart at the seams. Couldn't exactly be mad at her after what I'd done with you though."
"Did you tell her?"
"Yes, but she didn't know it was you. Then you up and left.. I thought there was no need to tell her who it was. I guess now we kinda have to, right?"
"Jim, I don't expect anything from you, okay? I have an inheritance from my mum, I'm fine for money, there's no need to be involved if it'll cause you problems.."
"No. You've kept him from me for nearly 2 years y/n, don't do this again, please? I'm not asking you to move in, I'm not asking for a relationship, I just want to get to know our boy.. that's all.. please?" You saw it in his eyes. It was there, for all to see. Was it love?
"I'll call Nat.. ask her to bring him over, maybe we could go for a walk?" Jim smiled, nodding. You made the call, and an hour later you were walking to the local park, Jim pushing the stroller. He took Jackson out of the buggy and placed him inside a baby swing, pushing him gently while pulling silly faces making him giggle. Your heart swelled watching them.
"He's incredible.. those eyes.."
"Your eyes, Jim." He looked up at you and smiled listening to his son's giggle, before he started becoming grouchy again.
"He's teething... Come on little man, let's get you back shall we?" Jim lifted him from the swing and placed his little finger in Jackson's mouth. He responded by sucking his gums along it, finding relief. You smiled, watching Him soothe your son's whimpers of pain as his teeth came through.
Making your way inside Natalie's house, you were surprised to find it empty. A note on the kitchen counter read that they'd gone out for the afternoon, they wouldn't be home until the evening. You warmed a bottle of milk for Jackson as Jim gave him some Calpol. Taking the bottle from you, he fed his son, as you watched, heart pounding as you watched the man you were still in love with take such good care of your baby. Within 15 minutes, Jackson was fed and had been rocked to sleep in his father's arms, you took him and placed him upstairs in his cot to nap. You knew he'd be out for at least an hour after all that fresh air. Walking back into the lounge, you found Jim sat on the sofa waiting for you.
"Come here, y/n..." You sat next to him as he turned to face you, hand gently caressing your cheek. "What are we going to do now?"
"I'm heading back to London tomorrow Jim..." His eyes glistened slightly. He'd just found his son, and now he was going again. He'd just got you back in his life, and now you were disappearing again...
"What can I do to make you stay?" His question took you by surprise. Stay?
"Jim, I..."
"I haven't stopped thinking about you.. about what happened 2 years ago. How long I'd wanted you, how long I'd dreamt of you, how I still dream of you even now.. and we share a son y/n.. I can't let you go again, it'd break me.."
"I'm half your age Jim! I'm barely older than your eldest child, how can this possibly work?" He answered with a kiss. Leaning forward to take your mouth against his, without thinking you returned it, linking your fingers with his as he pulled you into his lap.
"It'll work because we'll make it work.. nothing else matters.. all of that other stuff is irrelevant.." he felt you grind your hips against his and his erection was burning against his jeans. He needed you, now.
"And Danielle?"
"Is fucking a man old enough to be her own father - opinion invalid. I don't care about her, I care about you.. please.." he was aware of how desperate he sounded but he didn't care. He had his hand under your t-shirt against your breast, no bra in the way this time. Lifting you up, he carried you upstairs to the guest room you were staying in, and laid you down softly on the bed underneath him.
"Birth control?" He looked at you, smiling.
"The coil - don't worry, I'm covered this time.." You smiled back as he lifted your t-shirt over your head and kissed you again. The reason for being at the pharmacy 2 years ago was to collect your prescription for the pill - you'd not taken it for a couple of days after running out suddenly. After Jackson was born, you switched to a more efficient form of birth control.
Pulling your skirt down and off, along with your underwear, he nestled his face between your thighs, now parted by his hands.
"I want you to watch me y/n... Watch me as I make you cum..." Your core burning, you raised yourself up on your elbows as he blew a hot breath against your wet folds, causing you to shiver under him. He parted your lips with his fingers, before licking from your pulsing hole up to your clit, finding a rhythm that made you cry out and shudder underneath his tongue. Smiling, groaning into you, you tried to keep your eyes on him as he licked and sucked your throbbing clit in his mouth.
"Jim.. don't stop.. oh god..." You hadn't had sex since that afternoon 2 year ago, no one being good enough to compete with the man currently buried between your legs. No pleasure you'd given yourself since was a patch on this, and you felt that burning feeling in your stomach starting to rise. "I'm close... Mm... Fuck I'm close..." Your words barely a whisper but he heard them, pushing harder with his tongue as a finger entered you, hooking upwards to find that spot inside, the one you didn't think actually existed, but there it was.. you bucked against his mouth, coming hard and fast - you felt your liquids gush over his chin, there was no stopping them... "Aha... Oh god Jim... Fuck... Stop, it's too much..." He smiled, blowing another warm breath over you before moving back to your mouth. You could taste yourself on his lips, turning you on even more.
Flipping him onto his back, you lifted his clothes off him and kissed down his chest. Your core needed a breather before you took him inside you. Licking the top of his now rock hard cock, you slowly sank your lips down, taking him fully inside your mouth. You'd never had a strong gag reflex, and you enjoyed the feeling of his cock hitting the back of your throat.
"Holy fuck... Jesus y/n... That's it baby..." Up and down your head bobbed, swapping between hard and light sucks, your teeth gently scraping the underside of his cock and your fingers lightly playing with his balls underneath you. Every time you felt them tighten, you'd ease off, allowing him to catch his breath, before bringing him into your mouth again. After a few near explosions, he couldn't take anymore and lifted you off motioning for you to sit on him. "Ride me y/n..." You smiled, and sank your pussy onto him, allowing him to fill you. Slowly so as to adjust to his length, your hips moved, back and forth, up and down, finding the right rhythm for you both. He sat up, chests together and his hands under your thighs as he rotated his hips from underneath, driving his cock against that magical spot again.
"Yes... God that feels good... Jim..."
"I'm not gonna last long y/n..."
"That's okay.. we've got plenty of time to make up for this... Cum in me, give me all of you..." You felt his cock twitch inside you as he moved your hips faster. Leaning back, you rode him hard, the bed frame squeaking underneath as you both cried out, your climaxes arriving simultaneously. Coming back to rest your head against his, you clenched your core once more causing him to gasp as you drew yourself off him slowly. Lay down next to each other, he pulled you into his arms.
"Did you mean what you said?" He asked, kissing your head gently. "Plenty of time?"
"I meant it, Jim... I need to get back to London to sort a few things, put my flat up for sale.. my job... But yes. If you'll have us, we'll come back.." you looked into his eyes. He lifted your head to kiss you and you felt it. All the love you thought you'd never find, in the man you thought you'd never find it with.
Everything was going to be fine, you couldn't wait to start your life over again, this time for the last time.

22 Books in 2022
Thanks so much for the tag, @ireadiguess! Here are 22 books I want to read in 2022:
The Unidentified by Colin Dickey- I WILL read this because I have it checked out from the library right now. Really enjoyed Ghostland (possibly my favorite nonfiction from last year?), so I’m excited for this one.
Daughters of Sparta by Claire Heywood- I SHOULD read this because it’s in my physical tbr stack. Nervous about this one because classical myth retellings have become very trendy lately and not to be an academic classicist but that does set off some warning bells. But I definitely want to give it a chance!
Vespertine by Margaret Rogerson- I really, really liked Sorcery of Thorns, so I’m hoping I’ll like Rogerson’s next read just as much.
Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr- I believe @ninja-muse liked this one and it sounds like it’s about narratives and interconnected stories and has a connection to the ancient world, which is always exciting.
A Master of Djinn by P. Djèlí Clark- Fantastical murder mystery, need I say more?
Bloodmarked by Tracy Deonn- Legendborn was so good! I need more!
This is How You Lose the Time War by Max Gladstone and Amal El-Mohtar- Got this for Christmas so I WILL read it. (Even if I have to steal it back from my friend first.) Have heard many good things.
The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter by Theodora Goss- This one has been on my radar forever. Perhaps this is the year.
We Free the Stars by Hafsah Faizal- It’s been so long since I’ve read the first one but it was quite good so I would like to finally get my hands on the second one.
Disfigured: On Fairytales, Disability, and Making Space by Amanda Leduc- Seems like an important perspective for me to consider, as someone who reads a lot of fairytales!
Robert Harris’ Cicero trilogy- We read just the second book of this (?) for my high school Latin class and I’m looking forward to reading them all and seeing how they hold up. (Also, now owned so should be able to do this.)
The Haunting Season by an assortment of authors- Got really into the idea of Victorian Christmas ghost stories this year (?) so I want to pick up this little collection riffing on that theme.
The Wolf Den by Elodie Harper- Prostitutes in Pompeii. Could go very well. Could go terribly. Only time will tell. (If I can get my hands on this book.)
A Marvellous Light by Freya Marske- This just came highly recommended also by @ninja-muse.
The Turn of the Screw by Henry James- This has been on my tbr list for some time and I feel like I should include at least one classic.
A Winter’s Promise by Christelle Dabos (translated by Hildegarde Serle)- A friend read this quartet this year and loved them, so hoping to get to this.
The Spectral Arctic by Shane McCorristine- Can you tell that I’m doing some research on ghosts this semester?
White is for Witching by Helen Oyeyemi- See above.
Home by Toni Morrison- I believe if I read this one I’ll have read all 11 of Toni Morrison’s novels! (Though I suspect Song of Solomon will remain my favorite.)
A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan- Another one that’s been on my tbr forever.
Caroline Alexander’s translation of the Iliad- It’s been too long since I’ve actually read the whole Iliad, frankly.
A Tip for the Hangman by Allison Epstein- Tudor England, spies, I’m here for it.
Not many upcoming releases on there because I’m bad at keeping track of that kind of stuff, but I’m sure I’ll find some of those too.
Tagging anyone who would like to join because most of the people I would tag have already done it!

Happy birthday, Solitude But Two!
Here is a bonus Chapter!
"You guys will be alright, yeah?"
"Of course, Micky, it's not the first time you leave the kitties with us."
"But it's gonna be more than an evenin' this time. Also, before I forget, I put one of Lu's shirts in the bag, they need it to sleep, don't forget it or they'll harass you until you give it to them."
Perle was gladly following Caroline around while Soot lay on Mike's lap, purring as the old man gently massaged the black cat.
"Bah, we raised you and we used to have cats as well as dogs."
"Your Mum's right." Mike answered from the sofa. "We'll be fine. You go and have fun with Lucien. Did you tell him by the way?"
"Nah, not yet. I'm keepin' it a surprise for him. Speaking of, I really gotta go or we’ll be late. He’s waitin’ to have lunch with me before I take him."
"You arranged everythin'?" Caroline asked.
"Yeah, almost. Right, you guys take care, alright?"
"We will, Micky, you go and have your fun with your Lu'." Caroline answered as Mundy opened the front door.
"Meow!" Perle came trotting to her father and Soot jumped out of Mike's lap to join her.
"Oh, sure, baby, c'mere you guys…" Mundy squatted down and dealt headbutts and scratches left and right to both the felines. "You behave with Grandma and Grandpa, yeah?"
"Meow."
"Good babies." He left a kiss on their heads and pushed himself back to stand up. "See ya!"
"See you in a few weeks, Micky!"
A few moments later, the Aussie was on his motorcycle, racing through the streets and in his own mind. He had been preparing this for a while now.
It had been one year.
One year since he had put a ring on Lucien's finger and vice versa. Well, it would be one year exactly in a few days and this was what it was all about, celebrating the first anniversary of Lucien and him being… well… husbands?
Of course, their legal status remained single but in their hearts and their heads, they were very much taken and faithful to each other. Mundy never did attract a lot of attention from ladies and gents, but Lucien…
Every time the couple was having dinner outside, or enjoying a party with the few friends they had made, one person would walk to Lucien and hit on him. The first time it happened, it was a woman but Mundy nonetheless felt the itch to show her the rings, Lucien's and his. As he came close to his lover, he heard Lucien chuckle at the poor woman's attempt to pull her into her bed. He remembered it with a smile now…
“Oh, here you are, Mundy.”
“Hey, Lu.”
The woman had raised her eyes to the Aussie.
“This your friend?” She asked.
“More than that…” Lucien put a hand on Mundy’s chest and leaned on him. “Please meet my everything, Mundy. Mundy, this is the charming Amanda.”
“Hey there.” Mundy had stuck to being cold but polite, a defensive hand went to grab his Lucien and pull him to himself, almost defensively.
“What d’you mean, ‘your everything’?” She chuckled with a raised eyebrow, confused and slightly mocking.
“I mean this.” Lucien answered and pulled Mudy’s neck down for the Aussie to be at his lips height. He pushed a loving kiss on his lips and released him. Mund opened his eyes again, his mind still on the kiss even though Lucien’s lips had parted from his.
Amanda’s jaw hung low and wide.
“He is my husband, look!” Lucien went on, uphased. “This is the ring. It has only been a few months, mind you, time flies, but we love each other as if we were half our ages… Oh? Amanda?”
The woman had spun on her heels and left, leaving Lucien to chuckle and turn back to Mundy.
“So, mon loup, are you enjoying your evening?”
[My wolf]
“Uh… Y-yeah… Wasn’t she hittin’ on you?” Mundy nodded in the direction of the woman.
“She was, very much.” Lucien answered. “But for some reason she left now. I cannot think why… Women shall remain a mystery!”
“Maybe that’s cause you snogged me like there’s no tomorrow in front of her?” Mundy answered.
“Oh, that? Maybe.” Lucien answered and leaned against Mundy’s shoulder again. He stared at the woman refilling her glass with whatever strong alcohol she could find before he raised his light blue eyes to his lover.
They exchanged a smile.
“You’re a devil, you know that?” Mundy said.
“Maybe, but I am having great fun.”
“Why did you do that to her? You could have just said that you were already with someone.”
“And miss this laughter we shared? For nothing in the world. This ring that she chose to ignore,” Lucien raised his hand to Mundy. “It means that I vowed to make you happy. You did laugh, didn’t you?”
“Yeah, I did. “
“Then I am upholding my vows. Très bien.”
[Very well]
“You’re mean, Lu’. Look at her now…”
“I am not mean. If anything, she was.”
“What?!” Mundys eyebrows jumped in surprise.
“I am wearing my engagement ring and she still chooses to approach me. She knew she was taking a risk and she liked the thrill of it. Well, let this be a lesson for her: not all the risks are worth taking, Madame Amanda.”
“Well, if you put it that way…” Mundy agreed.
And Mundy reached his destination, which pulled him out of his daydream. He parked the motorcycle safely and entered his house.
“Mon loup, c’est toi?”
[My wolf, is that you?]
“Oui, mon amour.”
[Yes, my love.]
Lucien rose from his armchair and met his love at the front door.
"Your accent when you speak French is delicious…" He said before pushing himself to the tip of his toes and kissing Mundy.
"I'm makin' progress, aren't I?" Mundy laced his arms around Lucien's waist.
"Oui, but please, never lose your accent."
"If it goes like it does with you, I'll still have my accent in a hundred years."
"Are you saying I am old?" Lucien frowned in an exaggeratedly sad way.
"I'm not the one spendin' my time sayin' 'You'll see when you get to my age', eh!"
"Pfff…"
They chuckled together.
"You ready?" Mundy asked.
"Where are you taking me for lunch?"
"Where d'you think?"
"Hm…" The couple exited the house and Mundy locked the door as Lucien thought out loud. "Maybe the new Lebanese place that opened in town? I am told it is exquisite and very reasonable in price."
"Since when d'you care about the price of things?" Mundy smiled. "Oh, no, no, Lu', we're not goin' with the bike. I called a taxi."
"Oh? This means that you intend to get drunk, so maybe the Irish pub? But isn't it early to get drunk?"
"Never too early to be with you, baby." Mundy raised his arm for the taxi to stop while Lucien's blush took a moment to fade.
They both embarked in the taxi.
"Where to, Sir?" The driver asked.
"Where I told you on the phone, please." Mundy answered.
"Alright." The driver let his foot press on the gas pedal and off they all went.
"Tu me caches des secrets?"
[You are holding secrets from me?]
"Oui." Mundy answered.
"Dis-moi où tu m'emmènes." Lucien asked.
[Tell me where you are taking me.]
Mundy shook his head and took a glance in the inside rear view mirror. The driver was busy. Good. The Aussie slid his hand to take his lover’s.
“C’est une surprise, doll.” He answered with his accent.
[It’s a surprise.]
“D’accord.” Lucien smiled and nodded.
[Very well.]
And the ride took them away from where the usual restaurants the couple frequented used to go. Lucien straightened his back and looked through the window. He started frowning when he saw the control tower of the airport, the same one he had landed in, a few years ago now. And it got him thinking. What if he could go back and see the Lucien that disembarked on the plane that day. Would the slightly younger Lucien believe him if he had told him what he would become? What would he even tell him?
[You will meet the man of your life and your life will flip upside down. You will not wonder how or why anymore. You will live the instant, simply, as you did when you were twenty. You will live and you will love, as you did when you were twenty. You will be happy as you never were before.]
Would the younger Lucien believe him or would he laugh at him, scornful and disdainful, before he would realise that perhaps, the older him was senile, old, and out of his mind?
Pff, in the end, Lucien did not even care. He smiled at that version of himself. The bitter, cynical and lonely old man. He was now even older, but so much happier…!
"Lu'?"
Mundy's voice broke the Frenchman's train of thought.
"Oui?"
"Je t'aime."
[I love you.]
Mundy said those words with such honesty in his eyes that Lucien's cheeks turned pink on their own.
"Moi aussi."
[Me too.]
He smiled back at him and clenched his fingers a bit harder between Mundy's.
"Alright, we're gettin' there, Sir. Which door should I drop you at?" The driver asked.
"Departures, please." Mundy answered, his eyes sealed on Lucien's and the Frenchman's eyebrows jumped.
"Departures?" He repeated.
"Yeah."
"Are we… travelling?"
"Yeah."
"But Mundy, we haven't taken any luggage with us?"
"Don't be silly." Mundy gently chuckled as the driver parked.
Both men exited the car and Mundy winked at Lucien.
"C'mon, Lu', keep up! We don't wanna miss the flight…!"
"W-wait!" Lucien caught up with his lover.
The airport was as busy as an anthill. People coming, going, running, pushing carts, holding their hats on their heads as they ran.
"Mundy, were you serious?"
"Course I am! We're goin', c'mon!" Mundy glanced up at a screen and quickly spun on his heels to change direction. Lucien followed, sometimes even trotting after his lover.
"But where are we going?"
"Told you, and in French at that, it's a surprise."
"You cannot keep the surprise going forever, I will soon know." Lucien answered.
"Yeah, but meanwhile, I'm likin' this whole 'Lu' doesn't know what's happenin'' business." Mundy smirked and looked down at Lucien, which he knew the Frenchman had a weakness for.
"I shall find out myself!"
"Alright, good luck, Sherlock." Mundy winked and Lucien smiled.
They walked through halls and corridors.
"Uh, uh, uh! Gimme what you took from my pocket back!" Mundy stopped walking and turned to Lucien
"How could you possibly know?!" Lucien stopped. "I made every effort for you not to feel it!"
"You stole somethin' from my back pocket." Mundy said and opened his palm flat. "Give it back…"
"How did you know?" Lucien frowned.
Mundy sighed with a smile. He took the step that separated him from his lover and bent slightly such that his lips were next to the Frenchman's ear.
"I felt you touched my butt, and I liked it."
"Ah…" Lucien lowered his head and raised the plane tickets that he had taken from Mundy's back pocket.
"Thank you, now stop bein' a spook and follow me."
They went on following sign after sign and looking at all the screens they met.
"Here, that's the search thingy. I hope you don't have your blade with you." Mundy said as they queued.
"What do you take me for?"
Both men started undoing their belts. Mundy removed his glasses and his hat. When the Aussie finished, he walked through the metal detector and soon after, his lover followed him.
BEEP!
"Ah, oui, I must explain myself." Lucien calmly said and Mundy observed the scene. "This is my passport. If you run a check on me, you will understand."
The security employee took the passport and disappeared for a while. He came back and his colleague stopped him.
"Hey, don't let him go, he had a knife in his belongings!"
"No, we have to let him go." The man handed Lucien his passport back. "With the knife and all. Have a good day, Sir, and sorry for the inconvenience."
"No problem, you are but doing your job, Monsieur." Lucien took his belongings back and left the area. "Mundy? Are you coming? I do not know which gate we should head to."
Mundy had been standing there, his belt half put on, half still dangling down. His jaw had dropped as he watched.
"Uh, y-yeah."
"Mundy." Lucien stopped him.
"Yeah?"
"Maybe you should finish putting your belt first?" Lucien tilted his head on the side and Mundy looked down at his waist.
"Ah, uh, yeah…"
A few moments later, both of them were standing in front of a screen.
"Well, this is the moment where you'll see where I'm takin' you, doll."
"Oui, it is. So? Which gate shall we go to?"
"Forty-five."
Lucien's eyes scanned the screen.
"Oh… Mundy, but… Why Paris?"
"Because I love you, and I wanna see what it's like over there."
"I…"
"C'mon, let's go."
When they sat on the metallic, back-breaking bench at the gate, they chose a corner where they could be alone and in peace.
"Mundy, why go to Paris, honestly?" Lucien looked up at his lover.
"Told you. I wanna see what your life was like when you were there. I mean… I know you told me you're not from there. But still… Besides, you've been livin' with me in Oz for a while, you've seen me and my life, I wanna see yours."
"I have indeed seen the Bushman in his natural habitat." Both exchanged a chuckle.
"Look, if you don't want it, we can go back home. I don't wanna force you, baby." Mundy cast his eye around and dropped his hat on his thigh. He then slid his hand and pulled Lucien's underneath it. The Frenchman felt Mundy's thumb brush against the back of his hand.
"So, what d'you say?" Mundy asked.
"I say we go and I will show you the city where I grew up." Lucien answered.
"You sure?"
"We are about to board, Mundy, it is rather late to turn and go back home, non?"
"No, not at all. If you feel awkward or anythin', we can go back home. I wanted to make it a surprise for you but the point's not for you to feel weird about it."
"Non, Mundy, you are right. I should show you." Lucien clenched his grip on Mundy's hand.
"You sure? I mean, are you happy to do it?"
"Delighted."
And Mundy took a second to stare in his lover’s eyes. Was he lying just to please him? To not make him feel awkward? The Aussie slightly squinted. He looked through the crystal clear irises to see the soul beyond them. Were Lucien’s lips deceiving the Aussie? Bah, it wouldn’t be the first time but… When was the last time that Lucien had lied?
Hm.
Oh! Yeah, Mundy remembered it, it was…
At the lake, almost exactly one year before, the wig. Lucien had worn a wig because he thought his lover could only look at him with the eyes of love when he made himself more feminine. It was obviously wrong and Mundy had tossed the long-haired lie away. That was Lucie’s last one.
Mundy blinked and his eyebrow relaxed. Lucien was not lying. He was looking up at the Aussie with eyes that screamed his limitless love for him.
“Alright then, doll. Glad you’re happy to show me around.”
“Of course.” Lucien answered. “I am surprised by this trip but welcome it warmly. I think we should probably have done that before but I suppose we did not stop to think about it.”
“Yeah, that’s true. Got any ideas on what we should see?”
“Apart from the classics like the Tour Eiffel, the Arc de triomphe, and other tourist attractions? Hm, I shall think about it.”
“Can I ask you to show me some stuff in particular?”
“But of course. What do you have in mind?”
“Where you lived, where you worked, places you liked to eat at, that kind of thing.”
"I will."
They exchanged a conniving smile and the call to board the plane interrupted them.
"Ready, baby?"
"Oui."
"Right, let's go and queue."
A few minutes later, both found their seats in the plane and Mundy looked through the window. The sky was blue despite the relative cold of winter. Well, once in Paris, it will be summer… The plane took off and when the couple was higher in the sky than the clouds themselves, Lucien looked up at Mundy on his left.
“I am surprised.”
“You’d better. Been hidin’ evidence of everything.”
“How did you do it?”
“Gave the tickets and everything to my Mum.” Mundy smiled. “I even tried to not think about it. I never know with you; could turn out that you can read my thoughts or somethin’.”
Lucien chuckled.
“I could indeed.” He confirmed with a lingering smirk on his lips. “However, I choose not to.”
“Why?”
“The Lucien of the previous life used to read minds because he needed it.”
“And now it’s just a hobby?” Mundy chuckled.
“Almost.” Lucien answered. “Non, I value my relationship too much with you to not give you the same privacy that you give me. It is a question of respect. However, it is cute to see you try to read me to see if I lie sometimes.”
“Ah, uh, well…” Mundy scratched the back of his head. “Sorry...  I don’t want you to think that I don’t trust you…”
“Not at all. It gives me the impression that you really want to know what is going on in my head, which I appreciate.”
“Really?”
“Oui, I like this side of you, the side that wants to read all my fears in my eyes before I am fully aware of them.”
Mundy blushed.
“Yeah, well… Sorry, can’t help it.”
“It is a gift and a blessing, thank you for being so.”
“You’re welcome, baby. But uh, Lu’?”
“Oui?”
“Why did you say you were surprised?”
“Ah…” Lucien chuckled before he even gave the answer. “I did not take you for the business class ticket kind of a man.”
“I was gonna go for the economy thing, but then Mum said that in business we’d get a booth and we wouldn’t be bothered by people givin’ us looks. So I can do this…” Mundy reached for Lucien’s hand and took it. “And no one’ll look weird at us.”
“Cutely thoughtful of you, mon loup.”
“You can thank my Mum for that.”
Both chuckled and Lucien leaned his head on Mundy's shoulder.
“I will, but in the meantime, thank you, mon amour.”
Minutes passed that turned into hours and the sky naturally darkened. After the dinner they were handed in, the couple closed their eyes.
“Mornin’, luv’.”
“Bonjour, mon amour.”
[Good morning, my love.]
Both yawned, woken up by the bright morning sun above the clouds.
“Slept well?”
“I think my neck will hate me for a few hours only. What about you?”
“My legs…”
“How long do we have left until we land?”
“Uh…” Mundy checked his watch. “A few hours…?”
“Mundy.”
“Some number of hours…?”
“Mon loup.”
“Alright, ok, we got three hours left.”
“That isn’t that bad, actually.” Lucien answered, surprised.
“Yup. Oh, Lu’, I just thought about something.”
“Oui?”
“Uhm… Y’know how I told you I wanted to visit your workplace?”
“Oui, I remember.”
“How’re you gonna do it? I mean you're supposed to be dead for the Ministry back there, aren’t you?”
“Indeed, I am. You will have to call me by my second name when we get there so as not to raise suspicions.”
“But you still look like yourself. People will recognise you, won’t they?”
“Non, they will not. I was once a spy: entering places I shouldn't be while being someone I am not was my occupation for decades and not a trade easily forgotten.” Lucien raised his eyes to Mundy. “Do not worry, I will show you the Ministry.” He smiled tenderly.
“Alright, I trust you. But if you think we can’t make it or somethin’, there’s no shame in sayin’ it.”
“Non, absolutely not, you are right. But this will be easy.”
A few hours and a nap later, the pilot announced the imminent landing. Mundy looked at the city below the plane. He could see a river flowing, zigzagging through the capital.
“C’est la Seine.”
[It is the Seine.]
“Oh…”
“Ca, c’est l’île Saint-Louis… Et ça ? tu peux me dire ce que c’est ?”
[This is the Saint-Louis Island… And this? Can you tell me what it is?]
Lucien pointed and Mundy squinted to see better.
“It’s… Oh! C’est la Tour Eiffel, non?”
[It’s the Eiffel Tower, isn’t it?]
Mundy answered in French and Lucien looked at him as he always did, yet each time, the Aussie couldn’t help but fall slightly deeper for his lover.
“Oui, c’est la tour Eiffel.”
[Yes, it is the Eiffel Tower.]
Lucien confirmed.
“It’s the real thing? It’s tiny…”
Lucien’s smile vanished.
“I beg your pardon?”
“It’s tiny! I thought it was supposed to be very tall!”
“Well, you will climb it using the stairs and I swear to God your thighs will make you regret these words!” Lucien answered and Lundy burst into laughter.
“I’m jokin’, you sensitive, patriotic old baby…”
“Hm, joking now, aren’t you…? I will still make you climb to the top of it on the stairs.”
“How many steps is it to the top, d’you know?”
“One thousand six hundred and sixty-five. It takes between half an hour and forty-five minutes to climb it to the second floor which is not even the top.”
“You're pulling that out of your arse, aren’t you?”
“You shall see….!” Lucien leaned back on his seat with a smug smile on his lips.
“Hm… Hold on, we aren’t gettin’ closer to the ground, the Eiffel Tower’s still tiny…”
“It is because it is forbidden to fly over Paris.”
“Are you serious?”
“Oui, I am, it has been so since the Second World War, if I remember correctly.”
“Woah… You guys know no Germans are gonna come and bully you again, don’t you?”
“We know. But we would rather keep our sky blue and free of planes.” Lucien answered.
“Fair enough. Makes it more calm I guess."
When the plane landed and both made it through, Mundy held Lucien back in front of the airport's closed doors.
"Hold on, before we step into actual Paris…"
"Oui?"
"I love you, Lu'."
Lucien smiled.
"I love you too."
"Alright, now, we can go."
They took a step more and the doors slid open. The first rays on the Parisian summer sun hit their skin warmly and the lightest of breezes grazed their cheeks before rolling up to the sky.
“Here we are then, eh? Paris.” Mundy said looking around him.
“We are outside of the city itself but I guess you booked a hotel inside?” Lucien asked.
“Actually, I didn’t.”
“Oh?” Lucien raised surprised eyebrows.
“I was kind of counting on you to know where to go…?” Mundy admitted with a half ashamed smile.
“Oh, of course. I have recommendations.”
“You choose then, Lu’. I looked up the hotels and stuff but there were too many of them and I didn’t know which one to pick.”
“It is fine, let us call a taxi, I know where we should go.” Lucien smiled.
“Thanks, Lu’.”
“My pleasure.”
After half an hour inside a taxi, both stepped out in front of a hotel and Lucien waited for the car to disappear behind him.
“Welcome to the Ritz.” Lucien said and Mundy looked up to take the large three-floor building in. The architecture was nothing like he had seen so far. At the end of a flight of stairs hidden by a red carpet, the doors stood wide and tall between spiral-trimmed slim plants and equally fancy dressed porters. A French flag was flying above the double door that put a slight proud smile on Lucien’s lips. The walls were all made out of light beige stone and on each floor, rectangular windows were neatly and equally spaced. On the first floor were slim balconies adorned with a golden plated logo of the hotel. As Mundy’s eyes followed the column of clean stones, jumping from one window to the one above, he noticed that high up, the roof was covered in dark slate with windows surrounded by smoothly moulded, light beige stone.
“Gosh…”
“Come on, we both need a shower at least.” Lucien smiled at how absorbed Mundy was by the looks of the building.
The couple decided to take a few days of rest and let the jet-lag fade away slowly. They had their clothes bought and delivered to them at the hotel and enjoyed their meals either in their suite or in the restaurant downstairs.
“What did you say the room we’re in was called?”
Lucien chuckled.
“It is not a room, but a suite, mon amour, and it is called the Coco Chanel suite.”
“Funny name…”
“It is the name of a prestigious designer. She designed the room herself.”
“She was French?”
“Oui, she was.”
“Ah, guess it makes sense… How much is it per night?”
“A price that pales next to that of your company.” Lucien poetically answered.
“Thanks, Lu, but I meant in Francs?”
“About a hundred…”
“Oh that’s quite cheap for a suite.”
“... Thousand Francs per night.”
“WHAT?!” Mundy almost spat his coffee out.
Lucien burst out laughing, catching his breath in the short little snorts that Mundy fell in love with.
The next couple of days were spent visiting all the tourist-heavy places: the Eiffel Tower, the cathedral of Notre-Dame, the Palace of Versailles… Mundy saw more paintings and sculptures in those few days than he did in his entire life.
“Stop.”
Lucien’s voice was firm, too firm and cold to be addressing Mundy. The Aussie turned and saw Lucien with his hand on a young man's wrist.
“Hold on, that’s my wallet in your hand…!” Mundy snatched it back from the stranger's hand.
“La prochaine fois que tu pick-pocket quelqu’un, choisis mieux ta cible et ne regarde pas autant que ça à droite et à gauche, on te voit venir à des kilomètres.”
[Next time you pickpocket someone, choose your target more carefully and don’t look so much left and right, you are telegraphing all your moves.]
The young man opened wide eyes and as soon as Lucien released his wrist, he darted off.
“Attends.”
He stopped and turned to Lucien, a few metres away from him.
“Tiens. Et tu n’es pas mauvais, tu devrais en faire quelque chose.”
[Here. And you are not bad, you should do something out of it.]
Lucien handed him a note. The young man took it and left.
“You gave him money?” Mundy asked.
“Oui.” Lucien resumed his walk and Mundy followed him.
“Why?”
“Because stealing is rarely a hobby. If one does it, it is out of necessity. Throwing  this young man in a cell will not help him at all. On the other hand, helping him such should.”
Mundy fell silent for a moment.
“Besides,” Lucien started speaking again. “I was once this young man, only I never got caught.”
The next day, the couple woke up normally. Good, the jet-lag had finally passed.
“Mundy?”
“Yeah?”
“Do you want to visit the ministry today?”
The half woken up Australian opened wide eyes in a flash.
“Sure. Uhm, how are we gonna do this?”
“I have an idea. But I need to call Maurice first. You go and take a shower, I will telephone him and will let you know.”
“Alright.”
A couple of hours later, both men stood in front of an elegant building in the heart of the fifth district of Paris, or as Mundy liked to call it ‘the fancy one”.
“Shall we?” Lucien asked.
“I’d follow you but ho ‘re we gonna go through these soldiers?”
Two military looking people were guarding the entry and checking everyones credentials.
“As easy as just follow me.” Lucien answered with a smile before he took the flight of stairs up and met with the soldiers.
“Bonjour, Messieurs. Nous venons de la part de Maurice de Ronzières, en Australie.”
[Good morning gentlemen. We come on behalf of Maurice de Ronzières, in Australia.]
“Je dois vérifier.”
[I must check.]
“Faites donc.”
[Pray do.]
Both men waited at the door and when the guard came back to them, he let them in.
“Gosh, Lu’ - I mean, Louis… We’re in…”
“Oui, welcome to a place that they redecorated and I barely recognise…” Lucien shook his head disappointedly as he held his hips.
“That means we can’t visit it cause you don’t know where stuff is anymore?”
“Non, non.”
“Then why d’you look uh… not happy with it?”
“Because they redecorated and made it is ugly!” Lucien raised his arms in the air before letting them drop again. “Had I been still alive, I would have given the Minister of Defense a piece of my mind…!”
“Hold on…!” Mundy caught up with his lover and walked through the corridors.
They abruptly stopped walking in front of a small door hidden under the stairs, on which Lucien gave a few knocks.
“Qui est-ce?”  A muffled, old man’s voice asked.
[Who is it?]
“C’est moi.” Lucien answered and the door opened.
[It’s me.]
“Grand Dieu, Maurice a dit vrai…!”
[Good Lord, Maurice spoke the truth…!]
A short, skinny, old man emerged from what Mundy understood was the broom closet. He had lost most of his hair on his head and wore round, thick glasses.
“Comment allez vous, Georges?” Lucien opened his arms and the old man took a step forward and hugged him.
[How are you, Georges?]
"Ça doit faire une éternité! Les cheveux gris vous changent, Louis, mais je vous reconnais bien.”
[It must have been an eternity since last time. Grey hair makes you look so different, Louis, but I still recognise you.]
“Parlez-vous un peu d’anglais?”
[Do you happen to speak a bit of English?]
“Oh, j’ai les rudiments, à force d’entendre tout ce qui se passe…!”
[Oh, I learnt the basics on the fly here, as I’m forced to hear bits here and there…!]
“Then,” Lucien naturally switched to English. “Please meet my husband, Mundy.”
Mundy blushed beyond his ears. It was so uncommon for Lucien to introduce him as his husband straight away.
“And Mundy, please meet Georges, the ultimate spy.”
“Nice to meet you.” Mundy extended his hand and the old man shook it with a smile.
“Does he understand French?” Georges asked, his accent so thick that next to him, Lucien sounded like a native…!
“Bits, oui, I have been teaching him.” Lucien answered.
“Then, mes félicitations, mon garçon!”
[Congratulations, my boy!]
“Oh, uh, thanks… But how are you the ultimate spy?” Mundy asked.
“We can chat as we walk, boys, come on, follow me!” The old man pulled a trolley of rags, dusters and all kinds of cleaning products out of the closet before he started pushing it. Lucien and Mundy followed him.
“Georges here is responsible for the cleanliness of everything you see. He also happens to have the keys to every room in this building apart from a very select few of them. And all of that makes Georges the best guide to this place." Lucien explained as the trio walked through the corridor.
The old man pushed his trolley through the corridors, making sure to take all the stair cases that nobody usually takes.
"And I forgot to say," Lucien added through Georges' explanation of the rooms and corridors. "This man here is invisible to everyone meaning that if we stick to him, we become invisible too."
"And so you don't break your cover… Ah, I get it…" Mundy nodded to himself.
"Georges, could you take us to the portrait room, please?"
"Yes, I can. They didn't move it cause they say history can't be changed." The old man answered, the keys jiggling from his belt loop.
"Ah, perfect."
Georges took a second to unlock the door and push it open.
"You have ten minutes, fifteen tops, before my colleague comes here to dust everything off. I'll try and buy you some time but he's young and finds I talk too much so he usually just leaves me alone to do his job. Counting on you, boys, be careful with the time!"
"We will be. Merci infiniment, Georges."
[Thank you infinitely, Georges.]
"Avec plaisir."
[My pleasure.]
Both men entered and Lucien shut the large, wooden double doors after them.
“Wow, what’s this place? Who’re these people?” Mundy said as he found himself in a room surrounded by painted or printed portraits. The oldest were black and white engravings while the most recent ones were coloured.
“This is the portrait room. It contains the photograph, painting or engraving of every man who made a decisive contribution to the establishment or security of this country.” Lucien explained. “Please, do have a look.”
Mundy started walking in what felt more like an art gallery than a room. He admired the faces, sometimes commenting on the military attire or the old style moustaches and beards. Lucien tried his best to recall the bits of history he knew about those important figures of the country, mentioning a few anecdotes when his memory allowed him to.
“Golden frames for everyone, eh? That’s fancy as all hell…” Mundy said.
“Indeed it is.” Lucien answered. “I am told that nowadays, when young spies finish their training, they are brought here and come out of this room with the hope that one day, their face will be on thiese walls.”
“Yeah, I can get the enthusiasm.” Mundy said. “Oh, Lu’... Hold on… Is that…?” Munddy squinted in front of a photograph and took a step forward. His eyes zigzagged on that of the man with light eyes and coal black hair. “Bloody hell, isn’t that you?!”
Lucien chuckled.
“Guilty as charged.” The Frenchman said.
“How old were you on this? You look half the age of the others!”
“I started my career early and abruptly. Some would say I even started without knowing it myself. But to answer your question, I was in my early twenties in this picture.”
“Bloody hell… You look like an angel back then already.”
Lucien smiled.
“Merci.”
“What did you do to get your face up there?”
“I helped in the Résistance to free France from the Germans. I started as a courier boy, delivering messages until I grew up and understood that my, ahem, ease to approach women could be an asset for the country. Countless Nazi were caught through their wives and their mysterious lover.”
“You…?”
“Mh-hm, me. I broke a lot of German hearts back then, even before France’s liberation.” Lucien chuckled.
“Wow… Id love to take a picture of it.”
“We could take it back, if you want.”
“What?! You wanna steal it?!”
“It is my face and I am dead. I can claim it back.” Lucien shrugged.
“Hm.” Mundy fell deep in thought. “You know what?”
“Mh?”
“Leave it there.”
“You have changed your mind?”
“Yeah, leave it there for folks to look up at you and remember you. You changed my life, yeah, but you also changed an entire country before that. Let them have a souvenir.”
Lucien smiled.
“Very well, mon loup.”
The next day, the couple woke up with the first rays of light, wrapped in the satin sheet of the Coco Chanel suite at the Ritz.
“Lu’?”
“Oui?”
“Uhm, there’s somewhere I wanna take you today.”
“Oh?” Lucien’s surprise was obvious. Mundy wanted to take him somewhere? Where? Why? And above all, how? The Aussie had spent the past week or so following his lover blindly and complaining that he did not know how Lucien could know where he was going. “Sure, when do you want to go?”
“This evenin’, if that’s fine with you too. We can go have dinner somewhere and then we’ll go?”
“Perfect for me, Mundy.”
And for the entire day, Lucien kept on thinking about it. Where would Mundy take him…? Until of course it was time to go. He followed his tall lover through the streets. The Aussie stopped only a few times to check his map and make sure they were heading in the right direction.
“Alright, should be after this street.”
They stopped when they reached beautiful dark blue, wrought-iron gates.
“A park? You wanted to take me to a park?”
“I uh… I don't think it’s any odd park.” Mundy answered and Lucien frowned. They both entered and wandered inside, following the yellow narrow roads.
“Why did you want to bring me here, Mundy?”
“I think you guessed why.” Mundy answered. “You know we’re not in any park.”
“Indeed, I do, so why here?”
“Because it’s part of you and it’s important.” Mundy answered before he stopped walking. “Now, you gotta guide me.”
Lucien took a deep breath and let it all out in a long sigh.
“Très bien.” He started walking and it took a few minutes of silence before they reached their destination, under a tree.
“Is it here?” Mundy asked.
“Oui, it should be.”
“Gimme your blade.”
Lucien took it from his inner pocket and passed it to Mundy who went down to sit on his knees and started digging. The Frenchman waited, his arms wrapped around himself. He felt slightly cold even though the day had been scorching hot and he evening was still warm.
“Here we go...!” Mundy unearthed a small tin box. “Let’s go back to the hotel.” He stood up and dusted his knees off before both him and Lucien headed back.
When they were in their suite and alone, Mundy headed for the bathroom. He cleaned the box of all the soil on it and brought it back to the living-room on a towel. Lucien had been sitting on the sofa, his stare blank.
“You alright?”
“Oui,” He shook his head as if to land back into reality. “I was just lost in thought.”
“C’mon, ask me.” Mundy said and Lucien sighed.
“Why did you do this?”
“Because you told me that everythin’ that was you before was in a box, that you had buried it in a park in Paris as the rain was pouring down in the middle of the night. You told me that it has all sorts of things like pictures of you, maybe even of your family and everythin’.”
Mundy took a deep breath and took Lucien’s hand in his.
“It’s been one year of you and me bein’ a solid thing and it’s been even longer of us just spendin’ all our time together, and even longer of me lovin’ you to bits.” Lucien blushed at the last part and smiled shyly. “And today, it’s been exactly one year of us being a thing. I put a ring on your finger and you put one on mine one year ago exactly. I just… I don’t wanna make you feel bad at all, I love you, I just wanna see your life from before and beyond that, I want you to be at peace with what you were before.”
“Hm.”
“I don’t care what you were, I just want you to accept whatever's in that box as a part of you. It doesn’t need to be buried down in the ground, it shouldn’t be there. It should be with us, with our pictures and memories.”
Lucien had sat silently through his lover’s speech.
“You understand, baby doll?”
Lucien raised his eyes to his lover.
“You are right, Mundy.” He took the box and put it on his lap before gently opening it. “This is the only photo album I have ever bought in my life, before we got ours. The oldest pictures are of my parents, then me as a baby and a young boy. The next picture is when I was officially made a spy, after the end of the Second World War, during which I served in the Résistance.”
He flipped the pages and pointed for Mundy to follow.
“Wow, you were already gorgeous back then.”
“Thank you.”
The Aussie wrapped an arm around his lover to pull him close and Lucien leaned on him.
“Mundy?”
“Yeah?”
“How did you know which hpark it was?” Lucien asked. “I don’t think I mentioned the name of it.”
“I asked Maurice for the park where we could spend some quality time that would mean something for you.”
“Ah, I see.” Lucien turned the page. “This is the few pictures of Marie and Jérémy that I have.”
“She was real pretty.”
“Oui, she was.” Lucien smiled at the pictures.
“And Jeremy kind of looked like you a bit, I mean, his hair’s lighter than yours but…”
“He was born blond like the sun.” Lucien said. “His hair darkened as he grew up and was dirty blond before he passed.”
“Oh, I see.”
“This is us, all together.”
“Look at you bein’ a dad… You look so comfy handlin’ the baby. I’m always scared when I’m handed a kid. Always scared to drop them or hurt them or somethin.”
Lucien smiled with nostalgia.
“You should not. They are indeed very fragile but you are very strong.” He turned his head and pushed his lips on Mundy’s.
“Thanks, luv’.”
“Thank you.” Lucien put the photo album aside.
“There’s more stuff in the box?”
“Oui. Here, this was my first ever blade.”
“Oh, you kept it?”
“Oui, as a souvenir. When I was in the Résistance, I never thought that doing what I was doing would turn me into a spy, get me a job and a life that is reasonably put together. I just did it because I could and I was told I had a gift for it.”
“And you went on to become the best spook ever.” Mundy said, recalling the portrait at the Ministry.
“Something like that.” Lucien smiled. “Here, this is all black and old, but it used to be silver and shining bright.” He handed a thin, yet very old string of metal to Mundy.
“It’s a bracelet?”
“It bears my name on it. It is a common gift that young children are offered here. I kept mine because it reminded me of my mother, whom I loved beyond everything else. Oh and this is a very old and worn out thing now, but I used to wear it to cover my mouth and nose, for people to not recognise me when I worked to liberate France.”
“It’s a black bandana?”
“It used to be Burgundy red.”
“We could give a polish to your bracelet and a good wash to your bandana. I’m not good with clothes but I’m sure there’s ways to bring it back to life.”
“I think so, oui. Ah, there it is… Although it is broken, this used to be the bracelet that I offered to Marie, when we first started to meet each other regularly.”
“It’s a pearl bracelet?”
“Oui, I have always liked pearls on women, I think it might be because my mother used to have a pearl necklace that she treasured more than anything else. It was a gift from my father. I remember as a child, I one day found it as I was prying into whatever I could lay my hands on in the house and she told me off for touching it.”
“Oh, wow…”
“Wow indeed.”
Mundy took a second to look at the way Lucien was looking at his belongings from another life. His eyes were almost dreamy and his gaze, very soft, filled with nostalgia and bittersweetness. And soon, the smile widened and it was not an awkward listing of antics but objects that threw the Frenchman’s mind back when pictures were only black and white, when uniforms were compulsory at school, when with a Franc, you could buy a mountain…
“Oh, I am enjoying this actually, Mundy.” Lucien raised his eyes to his lover. “Thank you so much, mon chéri.”
[My darling.]
“You're welcome. See? It’s better to acknowledge everythin’ and even if it's bad things or mistakes that you can only blame yourself for, so be it. The only way to repent I guess, is to not make those mistakes again.”
“You speak truth and wisdom. May God keep you by my side for as long as we want.”
“Amen, baby.”
“Thank you for… Well… Half-forcing me to do this. I realise that I should have done it long ago.”
“How d’you feel?” Mundy asked.
“Better, lighter in a way.” Lucien wiped a silent tear.
“Hey, you sure you good?”
“Oui, it is not tears of sadness. It is… The intensity of all this. Finding myself in the Ritz again, but this time, not on duty, not for business, just for our enjoyment, the breakfasts, lunches and dinners here now taste so much more flavourful, I never realised that their food was exquisite. I knew it but I never felt it as much as I have in these past few days. And the outings with you, seeing the sights, guiding you through Paris, telling you her story. It is better than a dream come true.”
Mundy smiled compassionately.
“Lu’?”
“Oui.”
“Happy first anniversary.”
“Oh…” The Frenchman dived head first into his lover’s chest and let the tears run down his face.
“It’s ok, Lu’, I’m here.”
“This is why you wanted to take me to Paris?” Lucien pulled himself out of his lover's embrace.
“Yeah, for our anniversary.”
“Je t’aime, Mundy.”
[I love you, Mundy.]
Lucien took his handkerchief out and wiped his face.
“Je t’aime aussi, mon Lucien.”
[I love you too, my Lucien.]

1)The first time the twins called Eloise mama
2) Violet supporting Eloise after she watched her father die. Its angsty I know but I always feel like its gets overlooked as part of Eloises character.
Eloise woke to an empty bed and loud whispers coming from outside the bedchamber she shared with Phillip. She froze, ignoring the need to stretch out like the cat she’d found as a young child in the years before her father’s death. The voices were familiar, but she couldn’t make out what they were saying. It wasn’t necessarily a good thing. The twins could be menaces, even though they’d begun to behave better.
When the door opened, she was grateful that the room looked to be in order. She swallowed and pretended to be asleep as the light footsteps came closer.
“Is she still sleeping? Papa has been up for hours!” Oliver complained, drawing out the word “hours” in only the way a child could.
Her heart clenched at Oliver’s use of Papa. Despite the fact that he seemed to think that eight was too old to use “Papa,” in the weeks following their marriage and the intense dismissal of their horrid nurse, the twins had both begun referring to Phillip as Papa more often than Father. It was an amazing stride forward in the relationship between father and children.
“Papa’s always up early. He likes the garden,” Amanda retorted and Eloise could easily imagine her with her hands on her hips and glaring at her brother.
Smiling to herself, Eloise gave a loud yawn and stretched. There were two soft yelps and she turned to smile softly at the twins.
“What are you two doing here?” she asked.
“We’re sorry for coming in without an invitation. We weren’t gonna prank you!” Oliver exclaimed.
“I didn’t think you were, Oliver. Besides, you’ll have cousins to prank when my sister, her husband and their children come to visit in a few weeks.”
“Which sister?” Amanda asked.
“Daphne. Her daughter, Caroline, is the same age as you two. David’s a year younger than you two, but he’ll be fun for you, Oliver. Amelia’s two years older and Belinda is a year older.”
“Oh! That will be quite fun.”
“So, what did you two want to talk with me about?”
“We have a question for you.”
Eloise raised her eyebrows at them. “You do?”
“We were wondering, if you might let us call you Mother,” Oliver said, rocking back and forth on his heels.
Tears pricked at Eloise’s eyes.
“It’s just that our old mother never really was our mother. She was so sad and never left the bed. Papa says that her sadness might have been a sickness,” Amanda added, her hands clasped behind her back.
“Oh dearlings, of course you may call me Mother or Mama, if you would like. I’m sure your old mother would be glad to see you so happy and loved,” Eloise said, nearly choking on the tears.
“Oh thank you, Mama!” Amanda cried, jumping up onto the bed and throwing her arms around Eloise.
“Yes, thank you, Mother,” Oliver added, climbing into the bed as well.
Eloise smiled, blinking back the tears that threatened to fall. She’d never really considered being a mother. Being an aunt was fun and she could give the children back to their parents at the end. Anthony, Benedict, Daphne, and their spouses seemed to revel in being parents, and she adored her nieces and nephews. But nothing with them was as momumentous as the twins accepting her as their mother. It was a shame that Mariana had never been well enough to know how amazing her children were, or how much they’d grown.

HC request- on a scale from sober to absolutely blackout drunk, how much alcohol do the Bridgerton men (plus Simon, Phillip, Michael & Gareth) drink to cope with their daughters debuts in society?
Let us face it.
They’re all pretty hammered… but here we go:
Simon:
The night before Ameila’s debut Simon is a WRECK. She is very much Daphne in her mannerism and looks. There was already a buzz about her and he had three men already try to talk him into making arrangements for her to marry them. Simon had every intention to let his daughter’s marry who they wanted.
The day she debuted, that first ball, Daphne had admitted she finally understood what Anthony had done in chasing off men from her… Simon was sure he was going to throttle some of the men the way they looked at his daughter. It did not get easier when Belinda and Caroline made their debuts as well.
By the end of Ameila’s first season, he had threatened two men, roped Anthony in and watched his daughter punch another man. He sent several bottles of his best brandy to Anthony the following day with a note “i get it now”
Anthony:
Anthony was nervous when Charlotte made her bow, but not for the same reasons as Simon had been. Charlotte was headstrong and very much Kate in miniature but she had the Bridgerton surname. It was what people were sniffing at. Charlotte was beautiful, she was graceful and he knew she was capable of driving away men she didn’t want.
That still did not stop him drinking heavily the night they got home from her bow.
Mary’s however… that was a different story. Mary was sweet and had a gentle heart, she cried when animals were poorly. He was a wreck when she made her bow, but as one of the youngest Bridgerton girls, and making her bow at the same time as Francesca’s daughter Janet… There was a swarm of Bridgerton boys as their guard.
He got another bottle at the end of that season, but this time it was from Michael and Kilmartin whiskey… with a “we’ll need this next year”
Benedict:
Benedict cried all the way to London for Violet’s debut.
He wasn’t sure what he was feeling. Sophie was able to introduce her to the court thanks to the bargain he had struck with Queen Victoria over his work. It wasn’t normal and he could deal with the whispers but what he didn’t like was the way people looked at his baby girl.
He was sure that if Sophie had been the legitimate daughter of the Earl and had been presented he would never have won her. Violet was the diamond, she was sweet, she was graceful and she was petite and everything most of the men wanted but as she stuck to her cousin Charlotte and Violet’s three older brother’s all made a point of being there when she was in any ball, as was Edmund and Miles, the 5 boys protected Violet and Charlotte like they were the Queen bee’s.
Benedict was drunk for a week leading up to Violet’s bow, and Sophie had to start taking it off him out of fear her husband would turn into an alcoholic.
He sobbed the moment the door closed after the future Duke of Norfolk had asked for her hand, he knew Violet’s heart had lingered with him for some time and it had been a long 4 seasons. He was both relieved and broken. He was for thé first and only time pleased he only had to do this once.
Colin:
Colin had laughed at his brother’s reactions but the day Agatha’s bow came finally understood it. Anthony and Benedict were in London with him and tormented him religiously. But he had a partner in his stress. Penelope Crane was making her bow at the same time so whilst Colin was nervous he wasn’t as bad as Phillip.
Agatha was the perfect combination of him and Penelope and was charming and witty and sharp like her namesake. She had a great season but refused to marry, taking 3 seasons herself before she decided she was actually ready to look. She was 23 when she married in the end.
Phillip:
Having avoided it with Amanda he had hoped he wouldn’t have to go to London for Penelope’s season but she had heard such wonderful things from Violet and Charlotte that she had begged her father to let her go.
She had interhited Eloise’s grey eyes and he couldn’t refuse. Eloise had laughed and been the one to supply him with the wine that night. Eloise joined him and she was more than a little hungover herself the following morning but she pulled herself together and managed to present their daughter to the court in a manner befitting a lady.
But Sir and Lady Crane could be found later in the gardens of Hasting House with a bottle of wine whilst Oliver, and Benedict’s three boys looked after Penelope.
Michael:
Michael was thrilled to start with at the idea of presenting his daughter to the world, she was so much like her mother than he wanted to show her off to the world but then he remembered how he had seen people sniffing around Francesca when she came out of mourning, and he remembered John’s words about her first few seasons and began to sweat.
The journey from Scotland to London was the longest week of his life, Fran chuckled but Michael had never been happier that Anthony had another daughter and that she was Debuting at the same time. Kate and Anthony helped him through it and kept him sane.
The first bloke that approached him to ask for his daughter’s hand, he had very nearly beaten up. He was lucky that Penelope was in the family as she kept them all informed about what was going on, Anthony and Kate knew everyone and who was and who was not acceptable and he was not having his princess getting involved with the son of Phillip Cavender when he had heard from Sophie and Benedict, who had to be restrained himself, what had happened all those years ago.
Gregory and Gareth were lucky Katherine and Isabelle debuted at the same time. Isabelle was her mother in miniature and Katherine was like her aunt and her mother as well. Both men helped each other through it. White’s was frequented after every ball. They debriefed and talked and usually rolled home drunk.
Bridgerton House always had a plentiful supply of alcohol during the seasons and when Eloise the second finally married, being the last of the Bridgerton grandchildren to marry, Simon was going through it again but as a grandfather…

Quote
Bess remained in Italy for nearly a year, even though the Duke and Georgiana repeatedly urged her to come home. It was not only reluctance to leave Caroline which delayed her return-she knew in her heart that there would have to be changes to the ménage à trois, but she did not know how to present Georgiana with the truth. In his usual way, the Duke tried to make light of her fears: "The Rat [Georgiana] does not know the chief cause of your uneasiness, and I, of course, shall never mention it to her, unless you desire me, but I am certain that if she did, she would not think you had been to blame about it, particularly after I had explain'd to her how the thing happen'd."
Amanda Foreman, Georgiana Duchess of Devonshire p167
Caroline was the daughter of Bess and the Duke, Bess had discovered her pregnancy while abroad and ended up going to Italy and giving birth in a hostel, which doubled as a brothel, in order to hide the fact that she had gotten pregnant outside of marriage.
While Foreman acknowledges the possibility of a sexual relationship between Georgiana and Bess she assumes that Georgiana was unaware of the sexual nature of Bess and the Duke’s relationship. In discussions of their relationship Georgiana often refers to the three of them together. However the fact that Bess felt the need to hide Caroline from Georgiana certainly supports this assumption. But what of the Duke’s comment that “she would not think you had been to blame about it, particularly after I had explain'd to her how the thing happen'd.” I’m honestly not sure what to make of this, what was the circumstances surrounding the conception that led him to make this comment?
There is no surviving evidence of Georgiana’s reaction when she found out. Foreman suspects that the Duke and Bess probably came clean to Georgiana shortly after Bess had returned to England. During this time Georgiana and the Duke were going through a rough patch in their marriage due to Georgiana hiding her massive gambling debts form him. When she first confessed her debts to the Duke he was furious and wanted a separation, but eventually claimed down and forgave Georgiana. The three of them stayed together. It’s clear that Georgiana was now aware of the sexual aspect of the relationship between Bess and the Duke. But did she really not know before? What were the circumstances surrounding the conception that the Duke was referring to in the above letter?

Hello!
I’m back and alive even if I think I caught a cold :D (let’s hope it’s not something else...). But as I said earlier, I was fired and I’ve been on quite a bum. I’ve been working on witchtober and also my portfolio, which I still gotta do some stuff but it’s still almost done! Not perfect but let’s be honest, it will never be; I’ll always be improving jajajaja
BUT! When sad, I just watch Pride and Prejudice and my friends are terrible enablers... The moment I mentioned “hey, imagine...”, the moment they came up with headcanons and who would be who. I fucking love them. So, I doodled something fast while watching it. We ended up with this:
Ona as Jane Bennet and Cel as Lizzy Bennet. We were discussing who would fit better, and we all came to the conclusion that while Ona is fiery and confident, Cel would fit way more as Lizzy. And well, Richard as Mr.Darcy was a perfect match jajajaja. And still on the Bennets, Hank would be perfect for Mr.Bennet. A father minding his own business and caring for his children his own way– he won’t say he has a special spot for his two eldest daughters, shhh.
So, Connor as Mr.Bingley, sweet and innocent big brother who fell in love with the eldest of the sisters, and who is also always accompanied by his stoic and cold brother Richard. Connor is charming, more friendly and happy to make acquaintances. He’s more carefree and easy to talk to, and the moment he sees Ona, the moment his eyes cannot leave her and wants to spend the night dancing with her, wanting to get to know her better.
Amanda, as Caroline Bingley, never leaves their side either, but instead of being like Richard, who has no ill intentions towards Connor, Amanda would try to steer him away from “advantageous marriages” and “girls who are too easy on the eyes and have shown no interest in him”. She’s not stupid and she knows both Connor and Richard have a fortune behind their names, and she wants a piece of the action.
Mr. Wickham would fit Gavin Reed, charming at first but with hidden intentions. Handsome young man, an officer, and who doesn’t love officers...?
That’s all I got for now! Feel free to suggest more stuff 👀

Single Father Seeking Sane Step-Mama Pt. 2
Tumblr media
As the hour grew closer to tea time, Eloise strategically chose her seat in the drawing-room. Though not nearly as big as Bridgerton House, afternoon tea at Number Five drew plenty of visitors. With Colin recently returned to town and her mother’s birthday celebration coming up, Bridgertons of all ages flocked to tea. Hence, if Eloise wanted to make her own guests welcome, she needed to make ample space for them.
Amanda and Oliver would fit in with the gaggle of nieces and nephews that accompanied their mothers to tea. Between Daphne, Kate, and Sophie, at least one child of similar age would arrive. If not, Violet always had a marvelous spread. That is if Colin left any for the rest of the family.
No, it was their father Eloise worried about. Would he feel uncomfortable in the midst of all the Bridgertons? Frannie might not come, but Hyacinth was a force of nature in herself. Would he take them up on her spur of the moment offer? What if all her preparations were for naught?
Settled into the armchair by the window, Eloise kept a wary eye on the gate. She did not want to miss them.
“You are here quite early for tea, Eloise.” Daphne strolled in with her two eldest children in tow. “Usually Hyacinth has to bellow for you to “make haste.” Her elder sister gave her a sly smile as she settled on the sofa. Ambrose and Belinda found some sort of entertainment on the other side of the drawing-room.
Eloise made a face. Of course, she would remember something she did at seventeen years old. “You, dear sister, were about to be late for your own presentation. Hyacinth only has to shout if I am in the middle of writing something. They are completely different subjects.”
Daphne laughed. “So you say.”
“Oh good, you brought the older children today.” Eloise did a little clap of excitement.
Her sister furrowed her brow. “Yes, Caroline and Davina had an art lesson this afternoon. Why is it good?”
She leaned close. “The townhome next door was rented out for the Season. I encountered the children as they were moving in today, and invited them to tea.” Reclining once again, Eloise peeked outside to see if anyone else was arriving.
Daphne hummed. “I wonder who they are.”
“I’ve never met them before. The children gave the last name Crane. I have yet to meet their father.”
“Whose father?” Violet asked as two footmen trailed her with a cart full of pastries.
“Mama, does the name Crane ring a bell? I feel like I know someone with the surname, but I cannot place it,” Daphne pondered.
Violet shook her head. “No, dearest. I cannot either.”
Hyacinth bounded into the room with none of the delicacies of a proper debutante. “Are we discussing the new neighbors? Eloise should know all about them.” She smirked. “She’s the one who met the children today.”
“How did you-”
“I was in your room.”
“Mama!”
“Hyacinth,” her mother warned.
She shrugged. “Eloise has the best view of the street. If anyone wants to learn anything, it’s the best place to start.”
“Stay out of my room,” Eloise hissed. Hyacinth stuck her tongue out at her. Violet glared at them both.
Wickham arrived at the door. “A Sir Phillip Crane has arrived for Miss Bridgerton.” He gestured to the Crane family.
“Sir Phillip?” Daphne murmured as they all stood to greet the Cranes.
“I did not know either,” Eloise mumbled in return.
“Sir Phillip, what a pleasure to meet you. Welcome to our home,” Violet warmly said. Ever the gracious hostess, she did not miss a beat. “Thank you for accepting Eloise’s invitation. I am the Dowager Lady Bridgerton, but you may call me Violet.” She held out a welcoming hand.
“It is a pleasure, Lady Bridgerton.” He bowed over her hand. “May I introduce my children?”
Eloise would have glanced behind him to find the twins. However, she could not move past him. Meeting in person confirmed that her initial observation was true. He was large, and it suited him. Sir Phillip. A strong and sturdy name meant for someone such as him.
“Miss Eloise!” Amanda’s voice pulled her out of her reverie. “Are you glad we came?” The adoration in the little girl before her humbled Eloise more than she expected.
“I am,” she softly said. “Let me introduce you both to my niece and nephew.” She held her hands out. It surprised her how well their hands fit in her own.
~~
So these were the Bridgertons, Phillip thought. He felt awkward in a room full of such beautiful people. Lady Bridgerton made the introductions as Eloise took his children away. Besides herself and Eloise, the other two ladies were her daughters as well. “This is Hyacinth, my youngest, and my eldest daughter, Daphne, the Duchess of Hastings.”
“Your Grace.” He bowed once more. He may be rusty, but from what little he knew, a Duchess deserved at least that.
“Oh, we do not stand for such formality in the Bridgerton household. Please call me Daphne.” She steered him toward a long sofa. “We may still have stragglers. Let us chat.”
Phillip held back a gulp. “Are more guests expected?” Should they have postponed it for another day? “If so-”
“Oh no, Sir Phillip. My mother has an open door policy. With eight children, she stopped counting guests for tea ages ago.”
“Eight?”
Daphne laughed. “Is it possible that we have met the one person in all of London that does not know our reputations?”
Violet gave a sharp glance to her daughter. “We do not have a reputation.”
“Yes, we do, Mama. According to Lady Whistledown, you have four handsome sons and four beautiful daughters. All neatly and alphabetically organized,” Eloise returned to the conversation. She made her way toward the armchair she had before when Daphne tugged her into the remaining space on the sofa. Right in between the duchess and himself.
Alphabetically named children? “How delightful.”
The youngest daughter, Hyacinth, snickered. “Not according to Lady Whistledown. She said it was banal.”
With that comment, all of the Bridgerton ladies launched into a lively conversation. All Phillip could do was watch. He had vaguely heard of this Lady Whistledown, but he did not care much for the musings of a gossip columnist. No, he was far more interested in the young lady seated next to him.
Miss Eloise Bridgerton shared the same coloring as her sisters and mother, but on her everything seemed more. A rich brown hue in her hair, deep blue eyes, and a flush in her cheeks that matched her spirit. From everything he observed, Eloise Bridgerton was far beyond his league. All he sought was a quiet mother for his children. Someone who would not mind him spending more time with plants than the local society. Someone who did not resent him for surviving while his brother did not.
Daphne handed him a cup of tea. “Any sugar or cream?”
“No thank you.” He took a sip. It was a nice blend, and one he had not encountered before.
Hyacinth passed him a plate of pastries. “Get your share in before Colin returns. He is the reason we have two carts,” she said with a grin. “Where is your estate?”
“Hyacinth!” Both her sisters hissed.
It was a neatly tucked question. He rather admired the girl for it. “We reside at Romney Hall in Gloucestershire year-round. This will actually be my first Season in town.” And hopefully last, he prayed.
“Do you have any family in town?” Violet kindly asked.
He shook his head. “Not of my own, unfortunately. My late wife’s cousins do live near here.”
“We may know them. Who are they?”
Before he could answer, two more visitors arrived. One had the first familiar face here in London. He stood quickly to greet her. “Miss Featherington.”
Penelope Featherington had been wrapped in conversation with the gentleman beside her. If he guessed correctly, this was a Bridgerton brother. Lady Whistledown was correct, he admitted. The man was quite handsome.
At the sound of her name, she turned to Phillip and gasped. “Sir Phillip!”
“I am pleased to see you still recognize me after all these years,” he said politely. It was a very slight relation, but it was the only available in the city. It was pure luck that he encountered her in Lady Bridgerton’s drawing-room.
~~
Eloise glanced between him and Penelope, as did every other Bridgerton. How did Penelope know their new neighbor?
Daphne was the first to recover from her confusion. Recognition dawned on her face. “Sir Phillip Crane was married to Miss Thompson,” she whispered, clutching Eloise’s hand.
“Miss Thompson?” Eloise parroted. All the pieces clicked together. “That Miss Thompson?” She covertly gestured to Colin. It had been years since anyone mentioned that fiasco of 1813.
Her sister wore her worry on her face. Eloise watched her brother instead. Obviously, Sir Phillip had no idea who he was in regards to his late wife.
Penelope nervously smiled. “It has been some time since our last meeting. My condolences on Marina,” her voice cracked as she spoke her name aloud.
Violet’s eyes widened at the name while Hyacinth nearly fell out of her precarious seat. Colin showed no particular emotion at all.
To her surprise, Eloise saw Sir Phillip grimace. It was slight, but she was sure it was there. “Thank you, Miss Featherington. Might I introduce you to my children?”
As he went to retrieve Oliver and Amanda, she spied another odd happening. Colin whispered something into Penelope’s ear. Eloise narrowed her eyes. What was going on here today? Penelope spoke quietly to him, and he nodded.
“Colin!” Eloise called out to him. “Have a seat next to me.” Daphne took the hint and moved to a seat closer to Mama.
He complied, swiping two pastries on his way over. Even in this awkward situation, Colin had to think of his stomach.
“I’m sorry.”
Colin coughed at her words. He recovered quickly enough to ask, “Why? It’s not as if you brought him here. Why is he at tea anyway?” Her brother, to his credit, did not grumble or sound put out. He had near a decade to get over Marina Thompson and her actions. From the little Penelope had told her of that summer, Marina did what she thought she needed to do.
“I invited them here,” she admitted. Eloise guiltily looked over to where Sir Phillip stood with the twins and Penelope. Amanda looked like a doll with her sun-kissed curls, and Oliver had a mischievous smile on his face. Some of her guilt melted away when she thought back to the solemn look on his face earlier. No, no matter the awkward situation, she was glad to see that the children had enjoyed themselves.
“Lady Bridgerton, I believe we have spent enough of your time,” Sir Phillip spoke. The twins’ angelic faces turned mutinous at his words.
“Nonsense, you are welcome here,” Violet warmly said.
“Nevertheless, we must take our leave.” He reached to take Amanda’s hand when she backed away.
“No! Can we please stay with Miss Eloise?” She rushed over to sit next to Eloise.
Oliver was not far behind his sister. “Miss Eloise wants us here.”
All eyes turned to look at her. Oh dear, what a situation. Sir Phillip pleaded with the exhausted look on his face. “Amanda, Oliver…” She sighed. “You have traveled a long way. It is a time to relax. Even Ambrose is tired.”
Daphne shot a glance at her son that had him yawning within seconds. It was pleasant to see her sister had not lost her maternal touch.
She took both of their hands. “I enjoyed seeing you both again.”
“You are welcome to come to tea any time you like, dears,” Violet added.
Penelope chimed in. “I must be going as well. Mama will be expecting me home soon.” Eloise resisted raising a brow at her friend. Portia Featherington never expected Penelope for anything. “I can escort you out, Sir Phillip.”
He nodded and held his arm out for her to take. Colin tensed beside her. What was going on with him?
“Come children.” Sir Phillip’s tone brooked no more rebellion. Reluctantly, the twins followed him. Before they fully exited, Amanda turned around and gave a small wave to Eloise. She could not help but smile back at the little girl and give her a little wave in return.
It was a few moments later that Eloise realized that all eyes were on her once again. Hyacinth’s were teasing, Daphne’s warm, and Violet’s motherly as always.
Only Colin seemed reserved. “That was an interesting encounter. Is he the latest in your line of suitors, El?”
“There is no line of suitors,” she shot back, crossing her arms. She loved Colin, but there were times she wanted to strangle him with his cravat.
“If there were, Sir Phillip would be right in front. He could barely take his eyes off Eloise,” Hyacinth added. Maybe she would get the cravat treatment as well.
“He is not my suitor! I barely know him.”
Violet patted her on the hand. “Dearest, they are simply teasing you. Do not take their words to heart.” She heaved a sigh. “Anyway, the ton is a small world. Who could have known of Sir Phillip’s connection?”
“I should have recognized him,” Daphne said.
“Why? When would you have met him?” Colin asked.
“I- um… I contacted the Army on Miss Thompson’s behalf after… everything. It was then Sir Phillip found her.”
“Was he the father of her child? Well, children?” Hyacinth could barely hold her curiosity.
“That’s enough Hyacinth,” Violet sharply said.
Daphne shook her head. “It was his older brother, Sir George. He died in the Peninsular Wars.” She looked at Eloise as she said this.
“It is their own personal matter. It does not involve us.” Violet folded her hands in her lap, signaling the end of this topic.
Her mother was wrong though. After the events of that day, it would involve the Bridgertons personally, whether they liked it or not.
And Eloise was caught in the middle, physically and possibly emotionally.
~~
Later that evening, Eloise sat at her desk and stared at the blank parchment in front of her. She was not sure of what she even wanted to say. All she knew was that she needed to say something.
Sir Phillip,
Thank you for your presence at our house…

"Please don't leave me alone"- Convin, Connor had a nightmare and Gavin comforts him, other way around is okay
Warning for crime scene (so dead bodies)
------------
There were so many bodies. Some he wouldn't even be able to identify. So many of his people slaughtered for fun. Killed because a human wanted to feel powerful. If he could he would have gotten sick. Hank almost did too.
There were at least thirty-one bodies. Eighteen were children. The others were adults and five were originally made for security or military. So whoever did this was strong enough to overcome them.
Those were the ones he could identify. There were, from the looks of it, at least forty-six other bodies.
The large barn was covered in blood that only he could see. They had called in backup and when they came they found Connor staring into the barn, LED red.
At least seventy-seven of his people slaughtered. He jumps practically out of his skin when he feels a hand land on his shoulder.
He turns and sees Hank. He doesn't think, just pulls Hank into a hug. Hank holds him closely, not saying a word.
Hank was even grumpier due to coming to this crime scene at three am. Even he didn't like going to a crime scene so early.
He does have to pull away to work. He walks around, taking in all the evidence before going towards the like of unidentifiable bodies.
He crouched down, and with shaky hands scoops up some of the dried thirium. There are thirty-four different models. He quickly stands, squeezing his eyes closed.
"Conner, if this is too much…" Hank starts but Connor quickly shakes his head.
He can do this. He has to do this for them. They deserve to know what happened. "I can do it. I'm fine."
He tried to keep his emotions in check as he looked at the bodies. He didn't find any fingerprints so either this was done by another android or a human with gloves.
There had been androids that killed but nothing to this magnitude.
The murders were brutal and it appeared the cause of death for almost all were beating. It was slow, drawn-out, and painful. Deliberate.
There were different murder weapons, but one stood out. In a few of the child models, it appears they were beaten with just fists, drawing it out even further.
Who could do this? It made no sense. These children didn't do anything. Nothing except survive.
"Shit, fuck this is disgusting," Gavin grumbles, only now arriving.
"Don't say anything. I swear I will shoot you if you make any comments." Hank threatened.
Gavin's eyes went wide and put his hands up. "Hey, I admitted I was wrong about them being alive. Still shitty they can take our jobs but I'm not denying their life."
He had been quite surprised when Gavin had apologized for basically abusing him while not a deviant. Connor easily forgave him, after all, he was just a machine then and no one truly knew any different.
"This shit is terrible. Even if they were just machines." Gavin sighed. What the humans seem to keep forgetting was that they were machines.
Machines with feelings and emotions but machines nonetheless. He wasn't ashamed to be a machine and it definitely had its pros and cons.
"Fine. Actually… Reed walk with me for a minute." Hank said, glancing at Connor. Gavin grumbled but followed along, walking out of the bard.
Hank leads them far enough away that Connor can't pick up on their conversation, so he focuses on the evidence.
There was so much yet still so little. If he didn't have to keep to protocol with wearing gloves he would have been pulling at his hair in frustration.
Though… the damages on the child models could help. Child models were made to be hardy so just punching one would be harder and more painful than punching an average adult model.
He quickly walks over to an YK500 #80-856294710-registered name Caroline-, kneeling down in front of the mutilated body. There were punched exactly forty-seven times.
The damage done to a human had would be very high. No doubt breaking their hand, especially if punched with incorrect technique. Maybe he could even find the force profile. That would help narrow it down even further.
It was small, but it could help. If this was indeed a human their hand would definitely be hurt. If they got lucky then whoever did it went to the hospital.
He turned around and saw Hank and Gavin walk back in. Gavin's eyes fixed on him and he nodded to Hank before walking over.
"Hey, Tincan, they found a body that may be related. Hank's gonna stay here and look this over, so you're stuck with me." Gavin sighs. He was lying. Why was he lying? Did it have to do with whatever Hank talked to him about?
"Alright, I'm assuming you know the location?" He pulls his gloves off, disposing of them. Gavin nodded and started walking out of the barn, sidestepping any evidence.
He follows along, pausing when they get to Gavin's car. He had never been in it, never had a reason to. If he ever needed to drive Hank let him borrow his car.
He got in, taking in the smell. He could smell traces of food, cigarette smoke, leather, and Gavin's cologne.
Gavin started up the car, fiddling with the radio for a second.
"So, where are we going?" He asked, relaxing into the seat as Gavin drove. He glanced over before turning back to the road. He wasn't driving but he wanted to still keep track of the world around them.
Gavin opened his mouth to talk then quickly closed it. He did this a few more times and Connor didn't interrupt, letting him think. "You'll see when we get there." He finally snapped.
Connor shrugged, mostly to himself. He knew for a fact Gavin wouldn't hurt him so he wasn't too worried. Maybe Hank just wanted Gavin to drive him around a bit.
Now that he was sitting he felt exhausted. Androids still didn't need to sleep but now they could, and they could dream too. He'd had mostly good dreams, though it wasn't odd for many deviants to have nightmares.
He found that he didn't get exhausted from just physical activity alone. He generally had to go under a lot of emotional strain to feel this level of exhaustion.
Before he knows it his eyes are slipping shut. He dozes for a bit until Gavin is shaking his shoulder.
"Get the fuck up, Tincan. I'm not gonna carry you." Gavin grumbles. His eyes snap open and he looks around quickly.
They're at an apartment in the rougher part of the city. It is possible that there really is a body here. If it was he would have at least gotten a notification, but none came. So the probability of a body went down by 90%.
"I'm assuming there is nobody here?" He asks, focusing his attention on Gavin.
Gavin sighs and turns the car off, shaking his head. "No. Ander-Hank asked me to take you home. Well, he just said away, but you fell asleep so I… I brought you to mine."
He, he was at Gavin's place? Gavin took him to his home? "Why not take me to Hank's?"
"I didn't really… he asked me to stay with you, so whatever. Let's just go in." Gavin grumbled, getting out of the car. Connor quickly followed along.
Gavin's apartment is near the top, which definitely makes his stomach churn. He'd never been fond of heights, but as long as he didn't look down he'd be fine.
Gavin's apartment wasn't huge, but it seemed well-loved. The first thing he noticed was two large cat trees and he felt his excitement spike.
He knew Gavin had two cats, but he never thought to ask to meet them. One ran up to them, meowing loudly.
"That's Fae, she's a lesbian waffle," Gavin said, tossing his keys and wallet onto the table.
Connor drops down, holding out his hand for the cat to smell. It seemed the cat had no worries as she instantly rubbed against him, meowing again. "She's adorable."
The cat purrs loudly and then quickly runs over when Gavin opens a can of cat food. Another cat ran over, and Connor didn't bother to try to pet it.
He stood back up, looking around the apartment. It had large windows which were thankfully covered by curtains. The walls were painted in a soft gray-blue and the floors were warm hardwood.
It was an open floor plan, so he could easily see the kitchen from the living room. The walls were decorated with generic paintings and photographs. Other than the cat toys he wouldn't know Gavin lived here at all.
"Feel free to use the TV. I've got some movies on there." Gavin said, moving around the kitchen.
Connor nodded and sat down on the couch, turning the tv on. He quickly switches it away from the news. His stress was already high as is.
He isn't really paying attention to the tv, just 'spacing out' as Hank would say. He jumps when something soft lands on him. He quickly realizes it's a blanket and pulls it off of his head.
"Detective?" He asks, eyes widening when Gavin sits down next to him.
"It's Gavin, dumbass. You seem… tired. So you can sleep here if you want." Gavin mumbles, eyes glued to the TV.
Connor looks down and fiddles with the blanket. It's a soft blue color though it has a more grayish tone to it. He looks at the TV, then to Gavin.
He had found that human contact helped his stress levels. There was a 67% that Gavin would push him off, and possibly yell at him.
He scoots over closer to Gavin, pulling the blanket up to his shoulders. Before he can talk himself out of it he leans his head against Gavin's shoulder.
Gavin stiffens and Connor can tell his heartbeat speeds up. Anger or… no, he couldn't think about that possibility.
Gavin slowly relaxes and then does something he didn't was possible. He reaches around and pulls Connor closer.
Connor sighs happily, letting himself relax. Before he knows it his eyes are slipping closed once again.
He quickly looked around at all the bodies as snow started to fall. No. This wasn't right. How could this be right?
"Connor, look what you've done," Amanda says. He quickly turned around, seeing her standing surrounded by bodies.
No! No Amanda was gone. She had to be gone. He got rid of her for good. Right? "No! No, I didn't do this. A human did this."
Amanda laughed. Had Amanda ever laughed before? It sounded odd and unnatural. Was this similar to how he laughed?
"Oh but this is still your fault. If you stopped the revolution none of these androids would be hurt. No one would have died. You failed, Connor. You failed your mission."
No! No this wasn't his fault! The person who did this would have still killed, but then it would have been humans in that barn.
"No! No!"
"Connor!" His eyes snap open at the sound of Gavin's voice. He takes in deep breaths to try to cool his systems down.
The panic slows, but he jerks when he feels a hand brush against his face.
"Shhh, it's me. You're… you're crying." Gavin mumbles. Connor brings his own hand up to his cheek, feeling the dampness.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." He mumbled, leaning away from Gavin.
He should be better than this. He should be in control of his emotions. Yet here he was in Gavin's house crying.
"Hey," Gavin sighs, touching his arm. "It's ok. We all get nightmares. It would be fucking weird if you didn't."
He doesn't mean to, but he leans into the touch. It seemed so real. Amanda seemed so real. Could it be like another garden? Was that actually real?
He checked his systems and didn't find anything wrong, but that doesn't mean she could be hiding somewhere.
"I'm going to get you some water." Gavin sighs, moving to stand. Connor starts, reaching out to grab Gavin's wrist.
"Please… please don't leave me alone." He whimpers. Gavin's eyes go wide but he sits back down. He hadn't meant to appear so weak, so helpless.
"I'm not going to leave," Gavin says. He opens his hand and glances at Connor's still holding his wrist. He lets him go and takes his hand. He makes sure not to hold on too tightly.
"Do you want to watch something? I'm sure I have something happy." Gavin says. Connor nods and leans back, letting himself lean against Gavin.
Gavin uses his free hand to grab the remote, going through his movies. He selects one and grabs the blanket that had fallen, putting it over Connor and him.
They stay together, watching movies until they both fall asleep again.

❝ rust to gold you decide, what you see, what you hold.
tw: drug addiction, cheating, car accident.
February 6th, 1980 a cry was heard when Caroline Moody was brought into the world. Though her parents already had four other children, a girl and three boys Caroline was their last chance and when she came out a girl, they knew their family of seven was complete. Her mother always wanted another girl and though her father was dreaming for a boy, he soon fell in love with her sweet features and they way she had everyone wrapped around her finger. What they didn’t see was that she would become a problem at least in their minds when she didn’t conform to their rich people standards. See, Caroline was never about dresses or barbies, her interest came from playing with her brothers and being one of the guys and as time went on? Caroline began to lose interest in her parents eyes, which meant she started to rebel.
It started off simply at first, skipping school some days, not following dress code for others but when fourteen came, Caroline found herself going to her first party and the older kids she met there? Not the best of influences, they soon drug her into the world of drug use. First weed and then pills. Of course, she didn’t see it as a problem, there was nothing wrong with a little high every so often but soon she began to spend every drop of allowance she got on buying those pills and one night after coming home exhausted, she fell asleep without hiding her stash. When her mother came to wake her for school in the morning, she saw the baggie of pills and all the teenager got was a rude awakening. There was no school, just yelling and soon she was signed up to a boarding school in Boston, all good for her parents who didn’t have to deal with her and two got to get their embarrassment of a daughter out of town.
In Boston, she was scared, never having been away from home and also coming down from drugs but which meant she didn’t make friends too easily. Who wanted to be friends with the 15 year old hot mess, right? So Caroline coasted, until one day she ran into Amanda Wells. The two became best friends, almost inseparable but that soon led to more between them. After their first kiss, the two girls were together for almost a year before Amanda started to act strange. Their relationship had never been sunshine and rainbows and when Amanda pushed Caroline away? With a clear head and heartbreak on her mind, the brunette headed back to Fairview to begin her senior year once Amanda had left to college.
It was there in high-school where she met her husband and although she was weary of getting her heartbroken, the two soon began to casually see each other, but soon they got serious. By the time graduation came, the two were engaged and ready to start a life together, with Caroline going off to school to become a teacher. She wanted to give kids the life she didn’t have, the guidance that she didn’t and that was exactly what she did.
After a degree and a couple kids later, Caroline and her husband settled back on the lane and began to really settle down. It wasn’t until Rose and her family moved onto the lane as well did Caroline feel her resolve crumbling. When the new neighbours came to introduce themselves, the younger brunette recognized her ex immediately and vice versa, but she cracked a smile, pretended she knew nothing of the sort and introduced herself like they first met. After that, Rose and Caroline continued on co-existing, being polite when they had to be but not getting too close to one another and soon life settled back into normalcy.
It wasn’t until October 2020, did Caroline’s old life come back to haunt her. One night when she was heading out to pick up Luna from one of her activities, the woman hit a black patch of ice and before she knew it? She was waking up in the hospital with a misplaced disk in her back. After and before the surgery, Caroline was prescribed pain pills because someone had to take care of her kids well her husband was out of town, and she didn’t want to out herself as an addict due to fear of judgement. Popping one became popping two and soon the woman was getting fresh bottles still complaining of pain which her doctor never questioned.
Ten days before Christmas, everyone heard of Rose’ passing and since her husband was out of town, Caroline kid her pain by numbing herself. He came home for Christmas, they acted like a happy family and as soon as he was gone again? Caroline was numbing her pain with more pills and then alcohol, but see, the bar was where she met a man, and what started out as just friends? Soon ended in them sleeping together.
It’s been a few months now, and though Caroline is feeling less sad over Rose, she’s still feeling terrible for all her other hidden secrets. Searching within herself, she knows she can’t use forever, and she also knows she can’t continue on this affair because even if she believes her husband no longer loves her, she knows her love for him outweighs this false love that she has for another man. Still the woman has shrunk inside herself, being more private and closed off than she’s ever been and she knows if someone doesn’t save her soon, she might just be joining Rose for an eternal dirt nap of her own.

Deals with the Devil- 13
Tumblr media
Author: Amanda Preston
Summary: A need to fill a void and an encounter to start something new, Elijah and Katya never knew that a simple one night stand would wind up into a love affair filled with family drama and side deals gone wrong.
Deals with the Devil Masterlist
Elijah was having a hard time concentrating while Kol roamed around his office. They were waiting for Rose from HR to pop by with the paperwork needed for Kol’s one of a kind internship but she was taking her time. It wouldn’t surprise him if she was just too afraid to come into his office. Rose was bold with anyone else but when it came to any member of the Mikaelson family she lost that same courage.
“Kol, don’t touch that,” Elijah scolds as he watches his brother play with one of the plaques hung on his wall. “Or that one either. Perhaps none of them.”
Kol sighs and plops into the seat across from his desk.
“What am I even doing here, Elijah?” Kol asks. “Have you thought of that?”
“I’m sure I’ll find something for you to do,” Elijah mutters under his breath as he tries to remain focused on the paperwork in front of him.
“Am I even going to get paid?”
“Does that even matter?” Elijah responds frustrated already. “Mother still gives you an allowance.”
“I would like to be paid, Elijah.”
Elijah restrains from scoffing and looks up at his brother.
“If your work is sufficient enough then we can discuss such a topic.”
        “Well that is utter bullsh-”
“Kol…” Elijah sighs out finally being pulled away from his work. “That kind of language won’t be tolerated here.”
Kol rolls his eyes and falls back into his chair.
“Why don’t we cut to the chase?” Kol offers, causing Elijah to look at him in question. “You know very well that I don’t want to be here as much or even more so than you don’t want me here so why don’t you just fire me now and we can go our separate way.”
Elijah chuckles at this and stares at his younger brother.
“And then what will you do?” Elijah asks him. “Stay at home with mother?”
“No, I was planning to travel,” Kol answers. “Perhaps visit Nik. See where things go from there.”
“Mother will freeze your trust the moment you step out of her door.”
        “She wouldn’t,” Kol scoffs.
        “She would,” Elijah reiterates.
“She didn’t do it for Niklaus,” Kol argues.
“Well that’s because she had no other choice,” Elijah explains. “Niklaus blackmailed her so unless you have that same power in hand then I suggest you remain here and work.”
        “Blackmailed with what?”
“Like I’ll ever tell,” Elijah mutters as a knock on his door interrupts him. “Must be Rose with the paperwork.”
The door opens only to reveal Caroline. She doesn’t look pleased at the sight of Kol lounging in his seat and Kol doesn’t seem too pleased at seeing her either.
“What can I do for you, Caroline?”
“Rose wanted me to bring this up to you since I was already on my way here,” Caroline states as she handed a portfolio to Elijah. “I wanted to see for myself if it was true…”
Kol simply offers her a mock smile which seems to infuriate her more.
“So are we really just letting anyone work here?”
        “They let you,” Kol quips.
“Funny,” Caroline scowls. “But I was actually referring to you.”
“Oh really?” Kol grins. “You are surprised that I, a Mikaelson, would come work in the family business?”
“You out of all the Mikaelsons?” Caroline clarifies. “Yes.”
“What is that supposed to mean?”
“It means that you will bring no real use to the company.”
Kol growls in response prompting Elijah to finally step in.
“Though this conversation is riveting, I must ask for you to put a pin in it,” Elijah states. “Thank you, Caroline.”
Caroline simply offers a nod towards Elijah and starts making her way out of his office.
“I don’t understand what Niklaus sees in her,” Kol comments. “She’s not that pretty.”
Elijah refrains from making a comment and simply slides the paperwork to Kol.
“Just sign the paperwork, Kol, and then all of this can be over with.”
Kol doesn’t move from his seat prompting Elijah to sigh once more.
        “What now, Kol?”
Kol sits up properly and leans over the desk.
“How long do I have to work here before I can fire people?”
“You’re not firing Caroline,” Elijah responds.
        “That’s not what I asked.”
“But that is what you implied and the answer is never.”
Kol rolls his eyes and reads through the contract with a critical eye.
“I’m playing your assistant,” Kol scoffs. “Your bloody assistant, Elijah!”
“You’re going to be shadowing me,” Elijah clarifies. “I can’t afford to lose my sight on you. You’ll wreak havoc in the office.”
Kol simply grins knowing his elder brother had a point. He signs the contract knowing he could cause more damage alongside Elijah than anywhere else. The quicker he drove his brother mad the quicker he’ll be off and doing his own thing.
“Fine,” Kol mutters. “But you will grow to regret this.”
        “I already do.”
Kol throws the contract across the desk causing an instant mess on Elijah’s desk. Elijah lets out an exasperated sigh and tries to clean it up.
        “So what’s next?”
“Just sit there and be quiet,” Elijah orders. “I have much work to do.”
“Easy,” Kol sighs out as he makes himself comfortable. He leans into his chair, throwing his feet onto the edge of Elijah’s desk.
Elijah could only glare at his brother knowing better than to fall for the game he was trying to play.
        “Kol…”
Before Elijah could say much else, a knock on his door interrupts him. Gia steps in with a tablet on her hand ignoring Kol’s curious gaze and focusing entirely on Elijah.
“I know you prefer to wait a few weeks before having a follow-up meeting but you are busy in the weeks ahead so would you prefer to wait or should I schedule something for this weekend?”
Elijah has to bite his tongue noting his brother’s current focus. For the first time, Kol seems to have taken an interest in his work at the most inconvenient moment.
“Gia, you’re in charge of my schedule,” Elijah remarks. “Find a way to make it work.”
“I’ve tried,” Gia argues back. “It’s either this Friday afternoon or in a month. Pick your poison.”
Knowing Gia, she must have really put a lot of time and effort to allow such a situation to happen in his schedule. She was forcing his hand and Elijah can’t help but feel grateful for her meddling. He did prefer to see her sooner rather than later but under more social circumstances.
“This Friday will be fine,” Elijah resigns. “Make sure to let Katya… I mean, Miss Fontaine know about the meeting.”
“Will do,” Gia nods. “Would you like me to book a dinner reservation while I’m at it or should I…”
“Gia,” Elijah sternly interrupts her. “Book the conference room and send the reminder.”
“Fine,” she sighs out. “Fine, fine, fine…”
Gia starts to make the arrangements on her tablet as she steps out of his office. Once the door clicks closed, Kol turns to him with an eager grin.
“My, my, my brother,” Kol states. “Who would have thought you would be over Katerina so quickly. Now tell me, who’s this Katya Fontaine and how do I thank her for such a miracle?”
Elijah can feel the incoming headache arrive and there was still a long day ahead of him to push through.
