Honestly I want to know your opinion on Nemma. Because honestly I don’t like the ship either and want to see if someone agrees with me.

Oh my god hiiii nerd-chocolate!! I will GLADLY detail why I don’t like nemma. Buckle up cause I’m not exactly normal about this subject

I will preface this by saying I understand why it’s Noah and Emma. I get why if Noah had to have a girlfriend it would be someone who would match his intellect and someone he could hold a competent conversation with. Logically, on paper, I understand. It’s not so much the concept of Noah and Emma dating that I dislike, it’s the execution. The development of the relationship was a train wreck. HERES WHY!!!

From the very beginning Nemma showed problems. The Noah that couldn’t play a game of dodgeball for $100,000 and was so standoffish he could only make a good friend in Owen is now suddenly falling in love at first sight with a girl that did a front flip and I’m just supposed to accept it at face value??

You could argue that it’s been three years and a person could change in three years. I’d like to argue back: this is a cartoon. If the development happened offscreen, it didn’t happen. Noah had a drastic change in personality out of nowhere because they give us no reason to believe otherwise. This is just the beginning. It’s all downhill from here, honey.

This is very much subjective and a personal thing but do you know how irritating his face is.

Back on track, Noah is out of character the rest of his time competing (not that he was perfectly in character to begin with.) Both the way he treats Owen and how he acts regarding Emma is not believable to me. He’s tragically mean to Owen almost the entire time and he’s insufferably… inconsistent? When it comes to Emma? Like they didn’t exactly have pinned down how he should act when he’s in love so it changes with every episode.

[I did a bit of research regarding the more important Nemma episodes and their writers, but couldn’t draw any good conclusions from it. I did find out Laurie Elliot wrote both Slap Slap Revolution from World Tour (notorious for the most significant Noco moments of the season) and New Beijinging (where Nemma is at its worst in my opinion.) This isn’t all that relevant but it IS fucking hilarious. The writer responsible for “Cody’s got a tiny sausage!” being made to (co) write a Nemma episode and subsequently butchering it is reeeeeally funny to me.]

On the topic of New Beijinging. I cannot watch this episode uninterrupted and it’s because of Nemma. I despise it. It’s not that I don’t believe Noah would act like a bumbling fool in love… in concept. In CONCEPT, I can buy the failed one liners and the speaking your thoughts out loud and the acting out to try and impress her. In practice it’s so painful to watch. The Noah that said he’s incapable of being embarrassed in his WT biography is now spitting hot food in his love interests face and physically recoiling every time he tries to talk to her. I can’t express through text the pain and anguish it causes me.

This is ALSO after giving her a suave one liner in the previous episode. How does he go from cool and collected to cringing at her I- AAAGGHHHH.

They don’t suddenly get better when the feelings are mutual, either. They just become insufferable together and it’s tragic. This is specifically about Māori or Less and Got Venom? (though admittedly I haven’t gotten that far in my rewatch and don’t remember Got Venom? too vividly. I do know they’re annoying in it even to Owen and Kitty so.) They just become so infatuated with each other they forget the rest of the world exists and while I enjoy the CONCEPT……… it just manages to drag down both characters. At least they treat Emma with a little more respect and have her snap out of the haze to play the damn game but THEY END UP KNOCKING OUT NOAH INSTEAD. Pain agony suffering and woe. Noah going catatonic and leaving Owen to struggle is the worst it gets but he still never truly focuses on the game and even hopes to get kicked off. He won’t even play for Owen.

Do I even have to mention Owen. My poor guy Owen. Owen suffers an unnecessary amount for Nemmas development. It hurts my heart even thinking about it but I’ll list off examples. Ways Owen has suffered for the sake of the relationship include:

Being made to carry dead weight (Noah) on more than one occasion.

Being used as a flotation device, offered by Noah to Emma, after being frozen solid.

Being forced to wait for the sister team, making his team go from first place to seventh.

Being victim to Noah’s snark and insults, which he does to either impress Emma or to reprimand Owen because of something Emma related.

LOSING THE RACE CAUSE NOAH COULD ONLY FIND THE ENERGY TO MOVE WHEN HE WAS OFFERED A KISS FROM EMMA.

(Side note: have I ever mentioned that RR Noah is my enemy? I feel like I don’t mention it enough)

To wrap this up, I do genuinely believe Nemma could have been great. I don’t hate Nemma cause I thought Noah was gay, or I’m a Noco shipper, or any other superficial reason. I hate it cause it’s a terribly written relationship that had to completely destroy my favorite character of the series to try and make it work. It’s a damn shame, really. I wish I could look past how different Noah is and how badly he treats Owen and how sickly annoying he and Emma can be and just, at the very least, tolerate Nemma. But I can’t, and I never will.

Well to preface I myself am bisexual so please no bisexual erasure discourse on this post. These are also my opinions and as far as I’m aware there’s no real way to confirm or deny any of my hypotheses

Honestly, noah felt like a gay stereotype from the beginning. I mean, he wasn’t JUST a gay stereotype— he was also bookish and sarcastic and a little mean. But the way he talked and acted felt like it was all one big gay joke. I don’t think it was entirely malicious because he is a really fun character but i would genuinely be very surprised if that WASN’T freshTV’s intention at the beginning. Noah’s romance in RR felt like backpedaling because of the implication of ACTUALLY having a gay character in total drama, especially one from the original cast, would’ve been too much. It felt like they gave him a girlfriend for the sole reason of clearing up any possibility that he could be gay. And THAT feels malicious to me. I won’t lie, I do think nemma was handled pretty well (RR emma is one of my favorite td characters), so it’s not like I HATE the nemma ship, but I really just feel like it came about because of the possibility that he could’ve liked men.

There’s been a theory in another fandom that I’m active that one of the legacy characters was embraced by the gay community and that made the creator insecure, so he invented a whole ass woman for him to marry, even though it made very little sense. It just kind of feels like the same deal with noah.

All this to say, I don’t like noah/courtney, nor do I really like any ship that involves noah and a woman. Or noco (but that’s unrelated).

Rating Total Drama ships that showed up when playing with the generator! (Pt. 16)

Alejandro and Gwen (or Alegwen): “I know he's evil, but oof… Those eyes!” Props to Gwen for saying what we all think about this guy. Rating: 4/10

Alejandro and Heather (or Aleheather): Again, don’t usually include canon ships but I included this so I could ramble. My thoughts on this are that if Heather had ended up with anyone else, the end result would be extremely toxic. But there’s a spark with these two that makes them great. Their constant battles of superiority while still having a respect for each other is flawless. He’s the perfect match for her without just being “Heather but a guy”. It’s a ship that could’ve been terribly handled but ended up carrying a lot of World Tour. Rating: 10/10

Alejandro and Josee (or Alejosee): “Well, wouldn’t it be the same if it was Alejandro and some other manipulative person?” NO IT WOULDN’T! Rating: 4.5/10

Courtney and Ezekiel (or Courtekiel): Okay, enough Alejandro ships. Let’s move on. To this. This is not good. She barely tolerated sexist comments from Duncan and that was only because she thought he was hot (I guess she likes trapezoid heads). Rating: 3/10

Dakota and Kitty (or Dakitty): That sounds like a bad rapper name. Anyway, I think Kitty would get along with Dakota after she was humbled. I just think Dakota should have been humbled in a way that didn’t require her to be exposed to nuclear radiation that turned her into a giant scaled monster who barely had a concept of speech SERIOUSLY FRESH TV WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH Y- Rating: 7/10

Ellody and Laurie (or Ellaurie): One half from each of the “early elimination lesbian teams” from Ridonculous Race. Nothing to ride home about other than that one friendly interaction they had together. Though, I think Laurie would find a better and less judgmental partner in Ellody. Though, Ellody seems pretty content with Mary. These are just words. None of this means anything. What am I doing with my li- Rating: 6/10

Gwen and Josee (or Gwosee): Gwen would go crawling back to Courtney after being alone with Josee for less than a minute. So maybe this is a good thing? Rating: 4/10

Gwen and Scott (or Gwott): NO BECAUSE IMAGINE IF GWEN WAS ONLY INTERESTED IN GUYS FOR NO OTHER REASON THAN THEY WERE BONING COURTNEY Rating: 2/10

Leshawna and Ezekiel (or Lezekiel): She’d kill him. There’s no other way around him. If she heard what he said back in the first episode, she wouldn’t have voted him off. She’d have killed him. Rating: 3/10

Owen and Kitty (or Owty): Honestly, it’d be a bit too obvious. Like “Hey, Nemma became a thing so THEY have to be a thing too!” They get along well and they’re fun but I don’t wanna get too obvious. Side note: part of the reasons I mostly avoid canon ships is because of the death threats I’d get for giving Nemma a high rating. Rating: 5/10

Sugar and DJ (or SugJ): SUGAR, I SWEAR TO GOD, IF YOU EVEN LOOK IN HIS GENERAL DIRECTION, I WILL MAKE YOUR LIFE A LIVING HELL Rating: 2/10

my opinion on td finalists

spoiler alert, im not a fan of most

TDI: Owen & Gwen

uh I personally don’t like either of these guys for finalists. gwen did do a lot but there were so many times where she just acted so apathetic I was like why?? are you still here?? and as for owen... I didnt like him as a character for a Long Time and he's growing on me but he just doesnt seem like finale material

I think a duncan versus leshawna finale would've been super fun to watch. especially if they teamed up to take down heather in the semifinal. those two had such a fun dynamic, especially in the triathlon episode, that I think taking it to the finale would've been fantastic. also leshawna deserved to win that season and you cannot change my mind

TDA: Duncan & Beth

duncan, while not my first choice, I can see making it through to the finale this season. but beth?? no. im sorry but shes just too much of a side character and is canonically fake nice and annoys everyone else so it doesn’t really make sense

an interesting finale would’ve been duncan versus courtney considering how volatile their relationship was this season. however, bc courtney was kinda awful to duncan, I dont think she deserves to win this season. it would be cool if there was one ending where their votes tied and they made up and decided to split the money but that just feels too tame, both for a finale and for their dynamic

harold versus duncan could be interesting, but because duncan tends to bully harold, I dont think his win would be fair in this situation. I think lindsay versus harold would be the best, as this season is about lindsay learning to take charge and come up with strategies, and while he can be off-putting and occasionally condescending, I think harold has a lot of useful skills that could really flourish in the finale

TDWT: Heather & Alejandro

while I dont ship them at all, I truly dont think there could've been a more satisfying final two. we’ve had their rivalry build up from day one, they have a ton of good songs together, it really completes heather’s arc of antagonist to antihero to protagonist. heather winning is the best ending in my mind, but I like  alejandro winning too. the only problem I have with his ending is that it only happened because heather threw in the wrong dummy-- I think it would’ve been more clever for him to have switched them or something like that

ive been thinking about some other final twos that I think would be interesting, though unable to top the canon one imo. gwen versus courtney would be really cool because of the friends turned enemies thing-- I think it would be interesting for courtney to be put in danger and gwen has a choice of saving her or going for the money and she save courtney before apologizing again (maybe dumping duncan) and the two make up and split the money. 

though I don’t really enjoy either as characters mostly due to their writing, cody and sierra would be an interesting final two. maybe cody finally stands up to sierra, or sierra struggles with wanting to be the winner of total drama or helping the boy she likes win. it definitely wouldn't be as good as the canon two but there would be a lot of clashing dynamics at play that'd be fun to explore

TDROTI: Lightning & Cameron

admittedly, I don’t remember too much from this season, but it really felt like these two kind of coasted by. I never found lightning to be a particularly compelling character and thought it weird how he suddenly went from dumb jock to evil jock in the last episode or two. cameron really felt like he was just carried through the season, similarly to beth, though I dont have as much as an issue with him winning. I dont think it was a bad finale, per se, I just think if those were the final two they should've been written better from the start

seeing as how jo really played the game and went all in, I think she would’ve been a great finalist. it would’ve been interesting to see her versus (commando?) zoey though im not the biggest zoey fan. I think a jo versus lightning finale could actually work (or brick) though if there was a jo versus cameron finale, I couldn't see him logically winning bc jo would just destroy him

TDAS: Mike & Zoey

*BIG FUCKING INHALE* no. just no. im probably not gonna say anything that’s not already been said so ill keep it short. bland, mal writing bad, have someone who's been in the game for 3 previous seasons instead of  1 make it to the ALL STARS FINALE. jfc.

you know what would’ve been an interesting finale? gwen versus courtney. they both said they wanted to reach the final two with the other one, so maybe they do! maybe they start to struggle with their friendship because of courtney’s competitive streak! maybe one of their helpers is duncan and that causes strife between them! maybe they become enemies again and don’t make up until the finale! maybe they decide to split the money! idk! it would've had a hell of a  lot more flavor than what we got

TDPI: Shawn & Sky

I don’t really have an issue with either of these characters making it to the finale. they’re compelling, worked hard, and have distinct goals. I would’ve liked to see jasmine in the finale but I'd be cool replacing either one with her: jasmine and shawn having to compete against one another would be an interesting relationship hurdle and sky versus jasmine would've been cool because they’re both very athletic and it would’ve been the first f vs f total drama finale (we've had m vs f and m vs m but no all-girl finales...)

TDRR: Surfer Dudes & Police Cadets

Again, I don’t really have an issue with this finale. I really like how Sanders and MacArthur both work hard in their own ways and have to learn how to work together (MacArthur breaking Sanders’ arm and realizing that she can negatively affect her partner and also that Sanders is super tough was a GREAT arc). I know there’s been some contention about the Surfer Dudes being eliminated and then coming back so late in the game, but it made sense to me. They chose to lose because they felt that they owed it to Devin and Carrie, and that choice paid off when Devin and Carrie called in a replacement team. I doubt the surfers expected that to happen, they were just trying to be fair, but that kindness was rewarded in a big way which I think was sweet, especially  considering how much of a hot mess this show can be. 

I gotta say, this does kinda remind me of the TDI finale, with the villain (heather/ice dancers) getting eliminated third, and their rival (gwen/police cadets) making it to the finale with the fun guy (owen/surfer dudes). The reason I like the Surfer Dudes as finalists more than Owen is that I felt they put in more effort during challenges and had more of an arc (with Josee’s mind games ending up bonding them as a team after strife, choosing to be eliminated for the sake of fairness, etc). 

Speaking of Owen, it’s kind of ironic that if I had to replace a team in the finale, I would replace the surfer dudes with the reality tv pros. they’re my favorite team and I think it wouldve been great for them to really live up to their name. I think it also would've been funny for the ice dancers to be so focused on their rivalry with the cadets that the pros just completely go under their radar until its the final three and the ice dancers are like “oh crap they’re PROS why haven't we been trying to destroy them??”

I also wouldn't mind replacing the surfer dudes with the sisters. I know emma gets a lot of hate (mostly because of nemma which I only like platonically) but I actually like her as a character (when she wasn’t being obsessive) and I think she and kitty were a great team that had a good arc of learning to work together. I also think it would be really interesting because for the final three they would all have rivalries with one another: the police cadets and the ice dancers (obvious) the ice dancers and the sisters (josee messed with them in at least 2 challenges) and the sister and the police cadets (kitty and macarthur’s game/road rage was hilarious)

Noah classifies his friends as dogs and has their assigned dog breed as their contact picture. (He thinks they don’t know about it but they do. They find it adorable and let him have his fun). For example:

Owen is a golden retriever, for obvious reasons. His picture is actually a picture of Noah’s dog just because she loves Owen more than just as much as him. (It’s because he always has dog treats for her).

Eva is a pitbull. Bad rap, but actually fiercely loyal and pretty cool once you look past that.

Izzy is a jack russel terrier. Noah likes how similar “terrier” and “terror” sound. Also, Izzy is tiny but mighty and she WILL bite your ankles and it WILL hurt. Too much energy, not enough space for it.

Emma is a Maltese (yes I like platonic Nemma, go away). High maintenance, adorable, but you can never trust little dogs, they’re always secretly vicious.

Kitty is actually not a dog! Instead she gets a picture of grumpy cat because she found out about the dog pictures and threatened politely asked Noah for something more suitable. She’s the only one, to Noah’s knowledge, that actually knows about the dog pictures.

The whole group is very protective over making sure Noah doesn’t find out that they all know. If one of them doesnt want to do something or they do something stupid, when Noah’s not there, they’ll threaten to tell him that they know.

“Izzy, can you get off the top of the fridge?”

“Explosivo thinks that’s a bad idea.”

“Then I’m sure Explosivo won’t mind if I talk to Noah about Jack Russel Terriers.”

Everyone else is doing season rankings so here’s mine:

1. Revenge of the Island- the characters were wonderful, the setting was cool, I loved the relationships, and the ending was great. I wish it was longer so we could’ve gotten more development out of characters like Anne Maria & B and more relationship development for things like Jo & Brick’s friendship but overall very good!

2. World Tour- The songs were wonderful and I loved Alejandro & Heather, easily the best finale, Noah development was iconic, and platonic Gwourtney was good while it lasted. I definitely didn’t like things like DJ’s curse and Coderra and the love triangle but when the writing was good, it was good.

3. Ridonculous Race- the cast was so colorful and the new set up was interesting! I liked how they explored things like platonic and familial relationships more. The ice dancers were also great villains. I know everyone doesn’t like Nemma but tbh I thought they had a good friendship. Loved all the teams and how they all got at least a little arc before departure. The best written by far, the only reason it’s farther down than ROTI and World Tour is because while I loved the characters and their writing, my emotional attachment to the first two generations is a lot stronger yknow. It’s nothing personal, if I didn’t have that it would be number one for sure.

4. Island- The original! I feel like the characters were blander here but the challenges were cute and it was what it said on the box: a classic teen drama show. I don’t have a whole lot to say but I can’t dislike it at all besides some of the gross-out. Also DJ, the original Bridgette & Geoff, and Cody helping Gwent happen just have special places in my heart (as well as duncney before the last episode)

5. Pahkitew- Pahkitew was very weird and I definitely have bones to pick with the end of Scarlett’s arc as well as Sugar’s gross-out humor, the treatment of Sammy, and Dave’s Dave-ness. But I also loved Shawn & Jasmine a lot and how their arcs complimented each other, they’re very clearly two separate characters who can help each other develop without relying on each other for fan intrigue. Also the build up to Scarlett’s arc was lovely and the mechanical island twist was foreshadowed well. I’d definitely change some things but all the characters were fairly fun even with their flaws.

6. All stars- All stars was a mess that relied on ableist tropes both with Alejandro and Mal, and dropped character arcs or went totally off track, and tbh I hope it’s retconned in the newer seasons. But, it had some good. Mal had a lot of potential and their good vs. evil theme could’ve easily been blurred and complexed by the morally gray nature of characters like Courtney and Duncan. I liked Duncan a lot in this season actually, like more than I did in any other, and the idea of rehashing old challenges with a twist is very cool. It could’ve been written way better but it had potential and I give it points for that. Also I’m attached to Mal and for its credit the show gave me him so I have to at least give it second to last.

7. Action- hot take, action was terrible. Leshawna’s arc and watching her fight through hatred for getting what was rightfully hers as well as realizing she made a mistake by talking badly about people she liked was pretty decent (even though I feel like a lot of it was fueled by anti-blackness on the part of the writers) and she should’ve won, DJ quitting because he felt bad for partnering with Chef, the Chef/Chris development, and the Gwen & Duncan friendship were great...and that was it. The season was way too drawn out, Courtney in this season was a stuck-up caricature of her original self, they totally ruined Trent with ableist tropes, Duncan did nothing but bully people especially Harold, the way Beth treated guys was gross, Bridgeoff conflict was terrible, Heather got pretty much no development, Owen was just a fat joke the whole season and it was so sad bc he’s more than his weight which isn’t a thing to make fun of anyways, the aftermath segments were lame filler, Leshawna was done so dirty she worked so hard and deserved to win, and the authors like couldn’t decide if they wanted to make Justin evil or not so it was just a mess. Also Duncan’s transphobic comment was just,,,,unnecessary as shit. This season is the worst with gross-out imo too. Just like all stars it had a good concept but awful character derailment, except this one was drawn out as fuck and disgusting. It’s just sad I can’t stand it.

okay so i ranked 113 total drama/ridonculous race ships based on how much i like them with explanations below the cut.. fair warning that i’m a lil mean to some of the ships lower on the list.

also i forgot to include dwayne senior and that one girl’s mom from rr because i literally forgot they existed until now, and i don’t want to manually add them in so i’ll just say that i think they’re cute but not super interesting.

EDIT: this has been updated post-roti-rewatch. i switched around the order of a couple ships, and added a new one. if i ever rewatch rr or pahkitew i’ll probably edit it again, but the likelihood of me rewatching either of those seasons any time soon is... ok i was about to say it was slim but it’s probably not

also i’m not ever adding in dwayne and the mom because i like it being a part f the description lmao. an afterthought. as it should be.

109. coderra - i can only deal with this ship in rewrites. i’ve seen super well thought out rewrites of coderra and sierra’s character, but as it stands, i really don’t ship this at all.

108. davesky - dave is an incel lmao. anyway yea this ship initially seemed like bootleg zoke, which was kind of bootleg gwent, but then BOY did davesky get worse. i can’t stand dave and i can’t stand pairing him with sky, either.

107. leonard/sugar - why. i hate both of these characters. no thank u.

106. ella/dave - ok so u know i don’t like dave. i also hc ella as a lesbian, she hasn’t realized it and is dealing with comphet. i don’t like this ship.

105. topher/ella - i hc both of them as gay. they are friends tho.

104. macarthur/brody - in case you’re noticing a trend, i do in fact hc macarthur as a lesbian. i also don’t really care about her at all lmao. anyway, not a fan of this one. i really don’t understand why fresh thought this was a good idea.

103. noah/katie - again, i hc noah as gay, but this ship is more funny to me than anything else because these characters were shipped together so often early on, when they both a) barely had any characterization and b) had never interacted? anyway yea i don’t ship it.

102. cameron/sierra - this one’s weird? literally sierra had a crush on him or whatever because he reminded her of cody even though they’re… nothing alike? dude please get sierra some therapy oh my god

101. heather/justin - i knew someone who really, really shipped them once, which is why i’m including it. anyway i cannot see this ship at all, next.

100. amy/rodney - i guess this existed? i barely remember pahkitew, and i know rodney had a bunch of crushes, but this is the main one i remember so it’s the only one i can be bothered to include. anyway this relationship didn’t seem healthy at all.

99. max/scarlett - i don’t like max and i don’t really care about scarlett, but i also hc both of them as gay, so this is a no from me.

98. gwody - creepy and bad. i don’t trust people who ship this or davesky.

97. dashawn - shawn can do better. that one scene where they look at each other when dave has to kiss the person next to him is kinda funny tho.

13. bridgecourt - my favorite bridgette ship! idk i loved bridgette and courtney’s friendship in island, and i can see them having a best friends to lovers type of deal. i just think they’d be cute together, and their relationship would be really healthy and balanced.

ANYTHING. better than a guy loving and respecting his girlfriend unconditionally? and mutual love and respect? … well i mean there are several more entries on this list, so okay, maybe a couple of things, but this shit is galaxy brain right here.

8. aleduncan - ok so apparently something i like slightly more than partners who are soft and even softer for each other is total assholes who care about each other. like alejandro is a gentleman… but he’s a manipulative jerk too. and duncan’s a fucking asshole and i love him for it. anyway when they teamed up in world tour, especially in that episode where they hunted ezekiel (??? what is total drama??) i really liked their dynamic.

7. lyler - ok back to love and respect. tyler and lindsay are so good!! tyler got so excited when lindsay remembered who he was right? and lindsay never stopped asking ppl if they were tyler ok. like she knew she cared about tyler enough to want to be with him even when she didn’t know who he was?? i feel like we don’t talk about the implications of this enough. honestly… i feel like people overlook how much the period in between tyler’s elimination and slap slap evolution must have sucked for both of them? like it was played for laughs but… that shit’s sad :( ok i’m done being sad they’re cute and they love each other and i love them.

6. gwent - yea u got me i still care about them. tdi gwent was really sweet! there was a lil pining. a lil outside meddling. and a lot of cute. and GOD during the finale when trent ran alongside gwen with that boulder? he cared about her so much!! of course action ruined it with the shitty portrayal of ocd and a healthy portion of not fucking communicating with your partner, but before that it was good.

5. truncan - you got me, i like the idea of trent serenading duncan with his guitar and duncan liking it a lot more than he anticipated. i think they’d have a dynamic that’s a little more turbulent than most other trent ships, but less so than most other duncan ships. they’d be a lot more balanced i think. i’m a fan of that.

4. scuncan - okay so u remember how i said i like to ship two fucking assholes together? scuncan is peak asshole/asshole rights. all stars totally missed their chance to have these two team up by dumbing scott down, whatever they did with duncan, and of course, introducing scourtney, i’m just saying. scott was actually playing the game pretty well in roti, and duncan was a veteran of the series. the two of them could’ve dominated the game. those fuckin assholes.

3. aleheather - okay now this ship was like, the only central ship that started out good and ended good in this entire series, except maybe jashawn but they don’t count because they were literally only in 13 episodes. anyway they did rivals to lovers right here. also, they simultaneously gave heather a great character arc and wrote alejandro super well. so the characters as individuals were great at the time they got together, and the couple was great together, so what i’m trying to say is… aleheather was and still is amazing.

2. duncney - in case u couldn’t tell from how high gwent is on this list, i am a fan of the tdi ships. another thing you might be able to tell from this list- duncan and courtney are two of my favorite characters in the series. so of course duncney gets a high placement on this list. not only that, but they go from disliking each other to really liking each other, which is something else that i really like. tdi duncney is opposites attract in the best way, where they compliment each other each other instead of clash. beyond that… ugh. eughhh. i don’t even want to think about that. but duncney in tdi alone earns itself number two on the list.

1. heathney - yes i love girls. yes this ship is pretty fucking basic. and no, there are no heathney fics on ao3. i will be attempting to remedy that. anyway, i could see them pulling a rivals to friends to lovers as well, which is one of my absolute favorite tropes. i think they’d be a total power couple. and to top it off, i love them both. a lot. so much. thank u for ur time.

Cody Headcanons

Alright so! I still haven’t started on that Gwen essay I promised a while back but I really wanted to get these off my chest since I know Cody in canon is like super dull and kinda annoying once I take off my baby goggles but self-projecting headcannoning a character super heavily tends to change things. I’ll be putting everything into dotpoints because fdjjjkdshsd I’m tired.

Cody’s bisexual (this is less of a headcanon and more of.. literally putting down canon onto this list since a lot of people kinda forget the whole Alejandro thing but Yeet)

Cody’s parents are neglectful (again, canon that often gets forgotten, but hang in there) but when they do remember “oh hey we have a child” they make him feel like shit (see: his dad literally leaving him and his mum for a year just so he could beat Cody at chess)

His parents fight constantly even though they know yelling/loud noises in general tend to scare Cody a lot

Cody began singing, playing the keyboard, and playing video games to kinda escape his mum and dad

That’s also why he signed up to Total Drama!! A whole summer away from the parents tends to sound good when they don’t give a shit about you

He falls for people super, super easily. (“Oh my god this person was nice to me I guess I’m in love now”)

That ear kiss?? Oh my god he was literally just going JKFDJKDDJK OH.. OH MY GOD?? Inside his mind like wOW someone LIKES him (see: the smile on his face when he woke up and saw what was happening, screaming only because Noah screamed)

Has no idea how the fuck to interact with others, especially people he likes. Being the leader of the Einstein Fan Club will do that to a guy.

After the... bear incident... Chris and Chef began to feel super concerned about him since 1) he brushed it off like it was no big deal and 2) they told his parents but for some reason?? He was still there?? Why aren’t his parents picking him up and taking him to a hospital or home or something wh

Really just wants the best for his friends/crushes, even if it means setting them up with someone else. Or each other. Like Gwen and Trent.

Kept trying to ask Noah out inbetween the time he spent out of his cast and like,, the first three episodes of Action but kept chickening out

Finally did it when Trent got voted off of Action, saw what was happening, and almost had a mental breakdown due to how fucking obvious it was that they both liked each other

Found out the hard way that long distance relationships are actually quite difficult to maintain. Especially when you’re touch starved like holy shit after the second week Cody was like “if I don’t get to hold Noah’s hand soon I will literally burst into flames”

Noah took him to his first ever Pride Parade with Owen, Eva, and Izzy as well, and he got a little pin with the bi flag on it

Is actually super open about his sexuality as long as he’s not on camera and always makes bi jokes. His favourite one is “I like my women how I like my men.”

All Stars was all an act actually Sierra and Cody are still friends and she’s dating Heather and they go on double dates

Cody and Heather are also super good friends and sometimes Heather will be like “I have some gossip I wanna share but I know Sierra will probably know it so you’re literally the only other person I can talk to” “Sick what is it”

After Island, the Aftermaths, being on tour with the Drama Brothers, and World Tour, Cody kinda forgot what life at home was like (wow me too haha) and was not prepared, to say the least

Now he’s grown a backbone though so fuck that noise and as soon as he hits eighteen he grabs his shit and leaves

He arrives at Noah’s doorstep and there are no questions asked he’s just let in

Anyway RR comes around and Nemma was fake actually that was Noah’s twin brother Haon he refused to take part in a season where he’d have to do a straight showmance so his brother was forced to be in it instead

Cody and Noah are happily married and live in a house with like four adopted kids who are super undeveloped and haven’t been thought about in months but guys from the noco discord server if you’re out there reading this can we get back into that that was fun

OK, So Here’s a  Headcannon for all you Nerds who don’t Ship Nemma but DO Think Emma and Noah are Bro’s. (I.E. Me.)

TL;DR: Noah and Emma were using a Strat.

(This is probably too long but it was important to me to share.)

So, walk with me. 

Noah and Owen go on RR to compete, and Owen wants to have fun, but Noah Wants To Win. 

So this boy starts Strategizing, before the show he’s reviewing all of the programs he’s already been on and picking out what went wrong. It was usually because he’s Lazy or Unlikable, so he makes a note of it to try harder and be Nicer, because he  Really Wants That Money. 

But as he’s making his notes, he notices something… People who have romantic interests make it farther in the games. So now it’s plan time.

So Noah is studying which couples make it the farthest, and the dynamic’s they have and he comes up with a plan. This boy is going to pretend he’s crushing hard on someone, get them alone, explain the plan, and hope to god that it works. The only Hiccup is that Straight couples seem to make it farther (probably ‘cause they’re easier to market) so Noah has to not be Gay for the whole show, which he’ll do because  MONEY. (Though he is a sneaky boy, and brings up the concept of boyfriends multiple times, and grabs two Groom Wedding rings, because he is being ran on Spite.)

So Noah doesn’t let Owen in on it, because he’s bad at secrets and this is important. 

Now Noah is scouting out the perfect Girl, who will be A.) Smart Enough to do it, and B.) No risk of actually wanting to date him, which is when he over hears the sisters talking about how Emma doesn’t wanna do a relationship right now and he’s like “Perfect”. 

So Noah put’s his plan into motion, and starts acting love struck, and people are actually buying it and he’s pumped! 

When they’re on the plane and Owen farts and Emma and Noah both get up and walk away is when he goes to tell her, but first Emma is like, “Listen, dude I’m not interested, so stop whatever you’re doing” And Noah is like “Yeah, no, I’m Gay, but listen…”  So Emma is like “I do want to win….. OK. But I have been firmly Anti-Alliance and also Ant-Relationship so I have to make it look Natural.” And Noah’s like “Perfect” And so they agree on the strat, and Emma starts watching old Reality shows with couples who win on them and things are great.

So mini Headcannon in the Big Headcannon: Noah has Stage Fright, pretty bad. 

So in “ I Love Ridonc and Roll”, it isn’t Emma that makes Noah Nervous , it’s when he opens his eye’s and sees people watching him. He decides to try and play it up as a crush on Emma for strat reasons, but the boy is shook. At first Emma is like “Whatever, guess the Strat’s Done.” But then she’s like “Uh-Oh, we Bonded and Now we’re Friends Uh-Oh. This is why I didn’t want to do an Alliance”. So now Emma has to figure something out without being obvious that she cares but also pretending she has a crush  but also acting like she doesn’t, and Kitty see’s that Emma’s nervous and is like “Oh my gosh, just tell him you think Air Guitar is cute or something” And Emma’s like, Oh no, that won’t actually help because the crush is fake but there are camera’s so I can’t say that. What do I do!!! So Emma, is just like “Mickey can’t do it so it’s chill” But then Mickey CAN So now she has to Sabotage My Sons The Twins, because she doesn’t want to lose her friend!!!! 

Then Owen (Who is still not in on it but has come to the conclusion his little Buddy is Bi like Him, which is AWESOME!) Gives the pep-talk and when Noah says “Uh, Gee Big Guy, I…. I don’t know what to Say…” he’s ABOUT to let Owen in on the secret because Owen IS his best Buddy and he doesn’t want him to think that they’re gonna lose because of a crush, and he’s gonna come clean, but then Owen is all “You need to stop worrying about being some girls hero, and be my Hero!” And now Noah is like “Wow, I’m Gay.” and he goes out, and Emma does an encouraging wave and He Does The Thing!!! (But he still has to do it with his eyes close, because his Stage Fright is still a thing) ((Also he’s super embarrassed that he and Jay share a Phobia))

So Emma and Noah Sneak off for plans and Emma’s Like “We Still on for the Strat?” and Noah’s like “I Am Very Gay, and This Is Going To Be Harder Than I Originally Thought.” And Emma’s Like “I got this, Just Follow my Lead…. Also Next Challenge we can take a break, and you can Just Hang with Owen.” And Noah’s like “Thanks”

And the plan goes on as Normal, and Emma and Noah legitimately enjoy their conversations, even though they have to keep throwing in crush stuff, and things are good.

 Emma figures out that a lot of these couples at this point establish that they wanna smooch, and she tells Noah and they’re both like “Gross”, but then they’re both like “Money” So they start peppering that in. She also put’s together that in most cases, only one member of the couple makes it, and if they part on both 1.) Good terms, and 2.) A Successful Smooch, Likely hood of the remaining person winning is slim to none.  So Emma’s like, “You know what, We’re Friends and I’m mad about it, but I know how much winning means to you, so I’ll make sure I’m the one who goes home first :)” And Noah’s like “Cool.”

But then he over hears Kitty and Owen, and Kitty’s like “We’re doing this so we have enough money for Emma to go to Law School :)” And Noah’s like “Oh No, Feelings.” 

 Emma also Notices that a running theme is “Trouble in Paradise”, So they come up with a “Kinda Break-Up” , where Noah decides to try and throw the Race by “Breaking”, but it doesn’t work, and Emma catches on and is like “DUDE! Don’t you want to Win???” and he’s like “You’re Going to Law School.” And Emma’s Like “Oh, so you think I’m letting You be the bigger person????” And They Argue as Quietly as Possible, before Emma is Like, “Whatever, We’ll Just play it by ear…” 

But Noah is Stubborn and Doesn’t Listen. So In “Got Venom”, Everything is going as  Originally planned until Noah Gets Trapped under the Rugs, and at first he’s like “I can do Effort. I can do Effort for Money.” But then he remembers Emma actually Needs  the Money, and that he can just do another Reality Show and Oh No He Has A Friend and He Hates It. So That’s when Noah decides to throw the Race in hopes of helping his new friend 

But then they mess up, because Emma, who is still trying to play up the crush and is Legitimately freaking out that her new friend is crushed Makes the “I’d Totally Kiss you” Comment, which Noah’s like “Perfect Moment to Make my entrance. This is gonna look great for the camera. Best plan.”  And is like “I’m Here!” and now they have to improvise, which they’ve been doing, but Emma’s really stressed out, And Noah was Kind of Covered in Rugs, so he’s like “What do people with crushes say”  So he’s like “What about that  I’d Totally Kiss You Thing?” And Emma, who is still Frazzled is like “Oh no, What do people with Crushes do.” And that’s when in a moment of panic Emma Kisses Noah. And that’s why, unlike someone who actually wanted a kiss, Noah is wide-eyed and Stiff cause “Oh No The Plan”  and it fades out before we see Emma who is also like “Oh No The Plan.”  

And the Sisters don’t win, But the Reality TV Pros made some new Friends, who, if they ever actually win a game, will help one of them with her college debt.

I'm have trouble coming up with names but when someone suggests something I usually don't like it. What should I do?

Aaah! Sorry it took so long to reply! I didn’t see this in my inbox. I’m mostly on mobile, so I guess it was a system error.

Naming Characters

If you’re having trouble with real names, think about your character’s background. Where are they from? What are their cultural roots? Are they named after a certain religious figure, maybe, or a celebrity that their parents particularly like? People don’t name themselves, after all.

I notice that a lot of writers like to match their character’s names with their personality. There’s nothing wrong with that, of course, but as I said before this doesn't always have to be the case. Sometimes, people’s personalities just don’t match their name meaning. Hence, you could have a character named Hilary (“cheerful”) who later grows up to be a pessimist who constantly moans and groans about something-or-other. And that’s perfectly fine.

I also suggest searching through baby name forums like this one and this one. Another thing you could try is name generators. My favorite one is fantasynamegenerators, which is especially great if you’re writing characters from someplace other than 21st century USA.

I’m sure you know this already, but for the benefit of any budding writer who may read this: Be sensible about naming characters. Don’t get yourself so caught up in finding the “perfect” name for your character that you forget the time period / culture that your character comes from. Basically, don’t give your German-Irish character a name like Takeru, and don’t name your Victorian Era protagonist Lynnie. 

Following that—beware cultural appropriation. Names that clearly belong to a culture should generally stay within that culture. Naming your White protagonist Masaki for no reason other than “it’s cool” or “I wanted her to stand out” is generally considered in bad taste.

Now if we’re talking about made up names, then that’s a different thing altogether. I’m no expert, but I do have a few techniques that might help.

You could take a cue from J.K. Rowling and try the anagram method. Just take a name, a personality trait, a place—then scramble the letters until they become somewhat name-ish. “China” becomes Ichna, “altruistic” becomes Cilla Strut, “Ursina” becomes Surina, and so forth. Don’t be afraid to add or subtract words as you see fit.

Another thing you could do is play with the spelling of an existing name (For example, the main character in To Betray a Master is called Aurianna, which sounds like Arianna but it’s spelled differently).

I also like to take two words or names and mash them together. Fans do it all the time when they’re making ship names. Keith and Alex becomes Kalex, Nathan and Emma mashed together becomes Nemma / Eman, Bennett and Harper becomes... uh.. Barper? Play around with combinations and have fun!

Or take a string of words—the lyrics to a song, maybe—and smash them up into one line. “Can you feel the love tonight” becomes “canyoufeelthelovetonight” and then pick out combinations that are somewhat name like. (Anyou, Elthe, Thelo, Helov, Veton, etc)

If you don’t like other people’s suggestions, that’s perfectly fine! These are your characters, after all. Suggestions are welcome, but at the end of the day, it’s your call. You’re not obliged to name your character anything you don’t want to.

@ the anon that asked about why people don’t like Nemma (my apologies if this gets long): their relationship is typically regarded as “bad” simply because Noah acts out of character when he’s around her and Emma tends to be a bit controlling. People also don’t like that they’re BOTH sarcastic and kinda mean sometimes; people tend to prefer relationships between characters that are very different from each other.

Noah gets all lovey-dovey around her. It was the same problem that Aleheather had in All Stars where any personality they had once they’re together is just kind of taken away. Granted, he still acts mostly like himself when he’s talking about her with Owen, but when he’s with her? That’s not Noah. Noah wouldn’t say or do half the things he does in that season.

The whole Emma-is-controlling thing comes from the fact that she says that they’ll get together after SHE wins, not after one of them wins. And also she generally just gets a little…obsessive? I think? I’m not sure if “obsessive” is the correct word to use here but I think (and please correct me if I’m wrong) there’s a line where she mentions cutting a piece of Noah’s hair without his permission and she also directly causes the twins’ elimination for Noah through a method that was generally just Not Nice. Not Good.

Most of this is usually up to personal interpretation of the characters, of course. Like if you think Noah WOULD act like that in a relationship, I’m not going to say you’re wrong.

I’m not personally a fan of Nemma myself so I might be biased but those are just The General Reasons Why people dislike Nemma

There’s also people who just hate Nemma in general because Emma “gets in the way of shipping Noah with other people” which is just Not A Great Reason Actually tbh

I’m really really sorry for dumping yet another Noah ship discourse take onto this blog but I would still not like Nemma even if Emma was a guy. I am tired of people saying “wahhhh the only reason people don’t like Nemma is because it gets in the way of their yaoi”. Like, no? Maybe for SOME ppl but all the popular Noah ships besides Nemma (noco, nowen, even straight ships like nizzy and neva) are VERY different dynamics than Nemma. Maybe instead of trying to discredit ppl who don’t like your ship just accept that not everyone likes certain dynamics like goddamn

Am i the only one who finds it really strange that people (esp over on tdtwt) are trying to theorize or come up with ways for rajbow to break up? They aren't even together yet and people are already making theories about raj leaving bowie for wayne or that horrid julia/raj screencap redraw (while im here, the fact that most fandomgoers dont ever like to bring up the original scene at all tells me everything i need to know about the people who think redrawing it is okay). Not to assume anything but I have never seen people do this stuff with other healthy ships. Even with Nemma people don't really come up with weirdly intricate weird/cheating breakup stories, they usually just make an AU or establish theyve broken up.

As much as I dislike it, I don't care if somebody ships Rayne. I just think you don't have to jump through hoops to say it'll be canon to justify your shipping. Coming up with ways to make rajbow break up where one of them cheats or destroys the other's trust is just a weirdass thing to do to TD's first canon gay couple, especially when they aren't even a couple yet. . Just make an AU or something

I will say. I kind of understand because I’m worried they’ll break up rajbow. And all the ways it could be done are just flashing in my head and I’m trying to reason out what the best and most likely outcome could be. Sure in the good ending they stay together but. This is total drama island not total friendship island. I’m just trying to suss out how I think the writers will go about it and prepare myself emotionally 🥲

That said I’m not doing it because I’m advocating for another raj ship, so. Guess I’m just built different. Also I really really really don’t want a rajbow breakup. I’m just saying. It’s possible.
