[FIC] Beep beep

Summary:

"I'm not afraid of you!" Richie tries, - god, he really does, - to fight back this time, but It just laughs at him.

"How many times do we have to beep you before you shut up for good, hmm, Richie?" Its hands are all over Richie's face, all over his mouth, and Richie can't talk, he can't breathe. "I think I'll do your friends a favor and just kill you." It laughs again, mouth opening and shining and Richie...

Richie wakes up.

This fic is OT7, gen, but I’m tagging it as both reddie and stozier because I ship both ships, and idk they all just love each other so much

Pennywise is dead, they've killed it, but Richie still wakes up screaming and crying.

It's not a big deal, he tries telling himself. After everything that had happened, they all have nightmares, it's normal, and they'll be gone soon. They have to be, god, Richie doesn't think he can take anymore of this. It's the third night in a row he dreams about Pennywise, and it's always the same thing. He's back into that creepy-ass doll room in Neibolt staring at a life sized Richie doll, eyes vacant, glasses broken, and mouth sewed shut. He tries running, he tries screaming, but no sounds escape him, he can't even open his mouth, it has been sewed shut and it hurts, god it hurts so much.

"Beep beep Richie" Pennywise laughs and laughs, his teeth getting sharper and bigger and... That's when he wakes up. To be safe, he doesn't try to go back to sleep, he just hugs his own legs, rocking back and forth, waiting for the sun to come out.

Getting ready for school feels stupid, it feels fake. It's like he's playing the role of a normal student who cares about normal things like getting good grades and making fun of his teachers. Everything feels empty now, but he does it anyway because he has to, because there's nothing left for him to do. It all feels like an outer body experience, he feels detached, like he's seeing things through somebody else's eyes and living somebody else's life and it's fake, fake, fake.

It gets better when he finds the losers, because they're real and, more importantly, they are Richie's. I did that. Richie breathes out, I made friends with them, I was the one who followed Stan around since our first day at school, I was the one who helped Bill, Eddie and Ben in the barrens, I took Bev out on a movie date and she taught me how to play with yo-yos, I nicknamed Mike "homeschool," I'm one of them and they're mine. You can't have them.

He doesn't know if he's saying it to Pennywise's ghost, trying to convince It, or if he's trying to convince himself.

"What's up losers?" He waves at his friends, receiving tons of greetings, smiles and a pat on the back from Mike, who's now attending high school with them. This. This is mine. He repeats it to himself, and he doesn't know why, but he's getting desperate, his heart beating fast on his chest and he's breathing hard, but he thinks it again and again, because it's important, they're important, and they make him important.

When he manages to calm down enough, he turns to his friends. They're all laughing from something Stan said, and Richie's sad that he missed it. Stan is really funny, and he doesn't even try to be. Richie, on the other hand, tries really hard.

"Stan the Man gets off a good one!" He tries, and it's loud, it's probably too loud, but he likes it loud, he needs to be loud so it can drown Pennywise's incessant "beep beep Richie beep beep Richie beep beep beep

"Beep beep Richie" Stan rolls his eyes, and the rest of the losers laughs so hard they don't see Richie physically flinch away from the words.

It's okay, Richie tells himself, it's just a joke, it's an old inside joke and it's funny. He takes a deep breath. They've always beeped him, it's not a big deal, he can't let Pennywise ruin this for him. Another deep breath and it's working. Besides, they're just trashing the trashmouth, it's not like they really mean it, right?

"I'm not afraid of you!" Richie tries, - god, he really does, - to fight back this time, but It just laughs at him.

Richie wakes up.

"You look terrible." It's the first thing Eddie tells him next day at school.

"And you look amazing as always, my dear Eddie Spaghetti." Richie jokes, but Eddie just stares back at him; he's having none of it. But it's okay, Richie knows what to do. "I'm okay, Eds, I just didn't get much sleep, too busy fucking your mom!"

"Beep beep Richie." There it is. Richie was expecting it, he really was, but somehow it still hurts.

Shaking his head, Eddie turns and leaves, leaving Richie alone in the hallway.

The needle tores through his skin and Richie wants to scream. He wants to scream, but he can't move his lips, they're sewed shut. He wants to scream, but no sound leaves his mouth, and everything is quiet, everything is so quiet, except for the splashing of gray water as Pennywise dances in front of him.

Get the fuck over this. He has to spend a few minutes psyching himself up so he can stop freaking the fuck out. Bill, Bev, Stan, they all had so much worse than he did, and they're fine. All Richie had to deal with were a few missing posters, and creepy dolls, he got off easy, so he should be okay! He's gonna be okay, it's okay.

They hang by the quarry after school, and it is okay. They're all talking and joking around, and it is more than okay, it's good. Richie lights up a cigarette he stole from Bev, and closes his eyes as he takes a deep drag.

The next minute, the cigarette is gone from his fingers, and he opens his eyes to stare at Beverly. "I'm stealing it back, asshole." She says and takes a drag.

Richie's doing his irish cop voice before he can even think about it. It slips right off his tongue and he yells at Bev that he's gonna have to arrest her for this.

Beverly is smirking at him, but then Bill calls out, from behind her:

"Ss-sh-shut up, Richie!"

Richie's first thought is to crack a smile and answer with something like "as you wish, milord," but there's something inside his mind that keeps telling him that they aren't going to laugh. That they think it's annoying.

They think he's annoying.

So Richie just does them all a favor and shuts up.

Everything hurts. His lips are numb, from the pain and the cold. He can feel all the warmth leaving him as all his blood does and he wants to scream for help, he really does, but he can't.

"You're so loud!" Pennywise laughs at him. "Even with your mouth shut, you still manage to be loud! How do you do that?"

Richie swallows the sobs wrecking his throat in an attempt to stop them. Maybe if he's good, maybe if he's quiet, he'll survive this, so he tries. He tries so hard.

"Still loud." Pennywise whispers, as he leans close to Richie. "You breathe too fucking loud."

He dials Stan's number the moment he wakes up, before he can even fucking think about what he's doing. It rings once, twice, three, four times, and the constant ringing almost lures him back to sleep, but then Stan's voice brings him back to reality.

"Who is this?" Stan sounds tired and slightly annoyed.

Hang up, hang up, hang up. Richie's mind is screaming at him, but he's frozen to the spot.

"Today's a school night, asshole!" Richie can somehow hear Stan rolling his eyes over the phone.

He feels bad for waking Stan up on a school night, he does, but he doesn't regret calling him, not when the sound of Stan's voice fills him with warmth and calms his heart. He closes his eyes and basks on this feeling for a minute, and then...

"Richie?" Stan calls for him. "Richie, I know it's you, what's..."

He helplessly watches his hand slam the phone down so fast he hits his elbow against the table. It hurts, but what hurts more is that Stan recognized him and probably hates him for calling him this late. But how? He doesn't understand. He never said a thing, how could Stanley know it was him?"

"You breathe too loud." The wind whispers and Richie shivers.

Stan is after him the next day, but Richie denies everything. "Nah, I didn't call you, Staniel the maniel." God, he used that same joke last week, it's like he's not even trying anymore. "I can call you tonight but only if you promise to wear that red thong I love so much."

"Beep beep, Richie." Mike says, absently, and, fuck, not even sweet sweet Mike likes him. The smile freezes on Richie's face, he feels numb.

"Stop with the bullshit, Richie." Stan stops walking, turns to him and stares him down. Richie feels terribly self-conscious, completely aware of everything that's wrong with him. Well, for starters, there's the teeth, the nose, the thick glasses, and his stupid fucking face that begs someone to punch it, but those are old news. Now, not even his mom's makeup can hide the dark circles under his eyes, or the red around his mouth, where he desperately scratched it to get rid of the thread Pennywise sewed his mouth shut with during his nightmares. He knows Stan notices. Stan notices everything.

"Just tell me what's going on with you." Stan goes to grab his hands, and Richie flinches away so fast Stan is taken aback . "I... I... I'm worried, Rich."

"I'm okay, Stan. Promise." Richie lies, with a way too casual shrug and the frozen smile on his lips.

The ride to the quarry is quiet and awkward, and it's all because of him, Richie knows. Stan can't stop staring at him and everyone else notices, nobody says anything about it, though. Richie's not talking, no one's talking and it's the worst. I ruined them.

When they get there, Mike breaks the terrible, awful silence and begins talking about the twin kittens he just rescued, and everything is back to normal. Eddie is fretting over the diseases that cats can bring, Beverly is inviting herself over so she can get to know them, while Bill and Ben start talking names. Even Stan joins in after a few worried glances he sends Richie's way.

They're okay, Richie lets out a breath filled with relief, but it tastes bittersweet. They're okay, but I'm not. He should go before he ruins them for real.

He opens his mouth to excuse himself, but thinks better of it. He shuts up before anyone can tell him to, before It tells him to.

No one sees him leave.

Richie doesn't want to fall asleep, because he knows it's waiting for him, and no matter what he does, or how hard he tries, he's still so loud and annoying his friends leave him to die and, oh god, oh god, he just wants it to stop.

"Just stop talking once and for all." Pennywise whispers in his ears, and Richie doesn't even have any tears left to cry.

Richie has nothing left to do, but consider it. Maybe. Maybe he could. Maybe he should. It would be better for his friends and for everyone really, so maybe...

He suddenly opens his eyes, woken by pebbles being thrown at his window, but he doesn't remember falling asleep. He must have passed out from exhaustion, but still he feels tired. He feels so so tired. Another pebble hits his window, and Richie blinks awake, forcing himself to get up and move. He goes to the window and thinks he's still dreaming because all six of the losers are there.

"Ruh-Ruh-Richie let us in!" Bill asks and Eddie throws out a "yeah, asshole," while everyone else just nods.

Richie shouldn't. He knows he shouldn't, but he could never deny them anything, so he quietly goes down the stairs and opens the door for them.

"What the fuck, Richie?" Bev shoves him in the shoulder. But no one else dares to say anything else until they reach Richie's room.

"What she said." Ben points to Beverly. "Richie, why did you leave without telling us?"

You guys are better off without me. Richie doesn't say, he just shrugs.

"You know you can tell us anything, right?" Mike tries, and Richie nods. His friends are too good for him, and in return he just annoys the fuck out of them.

"T-t-talk to us, Ruh-ruh-Richie." Bill asks him and because it's Bill, strong, brave, loyal Bill, Richie tries his best to obey.

"What do you want me to say?" It's quiet, it's the quietest he manages, but it still annoys everyone.

"How about what the fuck is wrong with you?" Eddie yells, his voice turning high and desperate, and he's so angry, Bill has to hold him back.

"I... I'm sorry, Eds... Eddie." Richie remembers how much Eddie hates his stupid nicknames on time, and stops himself.

Eddie's mouth opens and closes, and then opens again. "Stop this shit, Richie." He's so angry, he's ready to fight, but he doesn't know who he can fight and that just makes him even angrier.

"I'm sorry!" Richie cries. "I'm so sorry, guys. Just... Just tell me what you want me to say, and I'll say it, I'll do whatever you want me to, I just... I know I'm annoying and loud, but I can do better, I can change, I know I can, so please..."

"What?"

"Richie!"

Everyone bursts out talking at the same time, and Richie knows he's made them angry, so he closes his eyes and takes a few steps back. "no, no, no, make it stop. Make. it. stop."

And suddenly it does. The room falls silent as arms wrap around him, and hold him tight. Richie opens his eyes and meets Stan's brown ones. His best friend dropped to his knees so he could hug him. "Richie." He's gentle, he's so very gentle. "What did It say to you?"

Someone gasps behind them at the mention of It, but Stan doesn't turn around. Richie has his entire focus, and it should be intimidating, but it isn't. Being this close to his best friend makes him feel safe.

"It...It told me...to..." Richie's sobs stop him, and he frantically fights to overcome them, breathing heavily. He doesn’t remember when he started crying.

"It's okay, honey, take your time." Beverly kneels down in front of them, resting her hand on his shoulder, Ben coming right after her. Everyone follows them, slowly getting closer, wanting to provide some comfort.

"We're your f-fr-friends." Bill takes one of Richie's hands, and Mike takes the other.

"Richie." Eddie says, and Richie immediately, instinctively turns to look at him. He's the only one still standing, his fists clenched and shaking. "Richie, please." He knows his friend is hurting, and there's no one for him to fight, unless he goes back to the sewers to kick Pennywise's corpse. He feels helpless, defeated.

Richie reaches for him, but stops in mid air, hesitating when he realizes what he's doing. Eddie doesn't hesitate, though, he meets Richie in the middle, throwing his arms around his friend's neck.

He's not the only one. Everyone's hugging Richie now, just like they've all hugged Bill in the sewers, after killing It.

It's dead, It's dead, It can't hurt us, not when we're together. Richie sobs again, but this time he feels a little better.

"I'm just..." After some time, he begins. "Remembering Neibolt, when we were separated." He looks at Bill, who only nods encouragingly. "It locked me in this creepy room with all these creepy dolls and clowns, and there was this... This coffin. It had my missing poster on it and when I opened it, I was inside." Ben squeezes his hand. "A doll version of me, I mean, but it had its lips sewed shut. And... Pennywise showed up seconds later and It kept beeping me and telling me to shut up and he was holding a needle and a thread and I..." He has to stop for a moment, remind himself to breathe. "Then Big Bill opened the door and saved me and I'm okay!" He talks quickly, wanting to get it over with.

"You're not." Beverly says softly, brushing his hair off of his eyes.

"I have nightmares, too." Stan says before Richie can lie.

"It... It hurts." Richie continues. "The needle, every night It sews my lips together, and tells me to shut the fuck up, and It really meant it. It wants me dead."

Nobody says anything, but the hands hold him tighter.

"And the worst thing is that I know It's right. I talk too much, I'm a fucking trashmouth and I annoy the fuck out of you guys, and you don't deserve... Maybe, maybe I should shut up. Like, for good."

The outrage is immediate. Mike and Bill sound shocked, Ben and Stan sound sad, Bev and Eddie sound angry. Eddie is suddenly on his feet, yelling. "IF YOU FUCKING DIE I WILL FUCKING KILL YOU!"

Richie blinks at all of them, and then turns to Eddie. "That... doesn't even make sense. How can you kill me if I'm already dead?"

"Fucking watch me." Eddie bites back, the same moment Bev adds a "we'll find a way," and, suddenly laughter comes out of nowhere.

They're all surprised, and Richie is the most surprised to realize that he's the one laughing.

"Guys, I..." He doesn't know how to finish.

"Go on, Richie." Mike prompts him.

"I don't really have anything to say." Richie chews on the inside of his cheeks.

"That never stopped you before." Stan says, and it's so incredibly fond that Richie melts. "We want to listen to you."

"You guys don't have to..."

"We don't have to, but we want to." Ben corrects him.

"Fuck that fucking clown!" Bev groans. "It's wrong! It doesn't know anything about us!"

"It d-d-d-doesn't know how mu-much we love you, and your t-t-trash mouth." Bill completes her. "Tell us a-a-anything."

Richie's in awe. Fuck, he has the best friends ever, how did he accomplish that, what did he do to deserve them, what can he do to deserve them?

"I love you guys so much." He settles on telling the truth.

"We love you too, but go on." Bev smiles at him. "Proclaim your undying love for us, milord!" She's going for an english accent and it's horrible. Richie laughs, they all do, and right there, in his room, surrounded by so much love and affection, it's easy to find good things to say about them.

So he talks. He talks, and they listen.

Loser's Club AU Dump

Okay so me and @s-oulpunk spend too much time talking out long and sometimes really in depth AUs that (probably) will never actually be written so I've decided so share a condensed down few. Buckle up.

Royalty: (Stozier/Kaspbrough) Bill is the next king of his nation, and he's in an arranged marriage to Stan, who is also a prince from another nation that seeks peace with Bill's. Stan and Bill are fine, but they're v awkward. Meanwhile, Bill's older bastard brother Richie takes quite a liking to Stan. Meanwhile Bill's personal assistant (think servant that's appointed to help Bill always) Eddie is absolutely not in love with Bill and he does not care that Bill is supposed to be getting married. Except he totally does. There's more to this AU but that's a lot.

Murder: (Core Four/Poly Losers) I actually gifted a scene of this AU to PJ...and then completely forgot it existed until she reminded me of it when I was writing this list. Bill is a serial killer, but he takes care of his boys, Stan, Eddie, and Richie. Mike is the detective trying to catch Bill, and Bill has the hots for Mike. Bev is also a leader of her own crime group, with Ben, Kay, and Audra. Bev and Bill also mess around as does both groups do. It's murder but with sex. Lots of it.

Hunger Games: (Stenbrough/Reddie) I uh, I'm not going to say too much on this one bc, uh, there may or may not be something happening with this AU...anyways, everybody cries.

Barbers: (Stenbrough) We have Stan Barber and Jacob Barber make an appearance in this AU. Patty and Stanley Uris were dating but she realized that Stanley would always sorta be in love with Bill. She also learned that she was pregnant so instead of telling Stanley, she runs away to Brownsville and marries Stanley Barber's dad and passes Stan B off as his kid. She does name Stan after his bio dad though. Patty dies and Stan B finds out that his 'dad' is not actually his dad and tracks down Stanley Uris. Who is now married to Bill and they had a son together through a surrogate who is Jacob. Stanley and Bill both want to bond with Stan B, and Jacob is not happy about that bc he sees Stan B as this perfect kid when he himself has always been a 'difficult' child bc his anger issues. One night when Stanley and Bill are out on a date, Stan B and Jacob come to blows, a fight so bad that Bill has to break it up when he gets home. For relationships we were thinking about Stan B and Jacob having crushes on people from the Party but I can't remember who.

First A/B/O: (Poly Losers) Basically everyone though Bill was going to be an alpha, and be the pack leader, but to everyone's surprise he's an omega. Not just that, he's the only omega in the pack. Eddie and Ben are betas, while Mike, Stan, Richie, and Bev are the alphas, Mike is the pack leader. There's a whole plot to this one, from start to finish, but Stan accidently gets Bill pregnant in a surprise heat. Also we both just loved the idea of Bill having a first heat after he presents and staying home from school for a couple days and not talking to the losers so Richie just eventually breaks into Bill's room and discovers that Bill has presented and is suffering though his first heat. Bill is all heat drunk so he on Richie in an instant bc Bill's heat is causing Richie presentation as an alpha to happen. Richie manages to call Stan desperately while Bill is literally purring in his ear. Stan arrives and the three have fun through Bill's heat since Stan also presents as an alpha This is probably my favorite one honestly.

Second A/B/O: (Stenbrough/Stozier) So these are two different aus with the pairings but it's the same concept. Stan is an omega who shares his heats with Bill's (or Richie) ruts. Obviously they're the alpha. Stan ends up pregnant and runs away and chooses not to tell Bill (or Richie) and has his child. Depending on which version it is he either gets help raising his son with Richie (if Bill's the dad) or raising him with Bill (if Richie is the dad). He also is very successful in his career and he's a single parent omega who needs no alpha thank you very much. In the Bill au, Bill comes out to visit Richie and ends up running into Stan and Henry (from the book of Henry) and Bill is thrown bc there's no way that kid is not his. Que Bill trying to bond with his son, who 100% does not trust him and got all of his intelligence from Stan, and trying to get Stan back. Also Bill's a little intimidated by own son so that's fun. For the Stozier one, Stan actually moved with Bill to London to raise his son Mike (from Stranger Things) and Richie is in a band and they do a world tour and end up where Stan and Bill are and decides to drop by unannounced. Richie freaks bc it's Richie. Like with how Henry did not trust Bill, Mike doesn't trust Richie. But these two bicker like siblings, when they're actually father and son. There's a fun dynamic of loud mouth Richie trying to bond with his bitchy son Mike. Also in the stozier version Kaspbrough would kinda be a thing. There's more to both versions, mainly little things.

Cheating: (Stenbrough w/ Stozier & Billverly) If you don't like cheating aus, you may want to skip this one. Bill is star baseball player with just as popular girlfriend Beverly. He's also failing math. Stan is head of the SGA and gets volunteer work as a tutor, Richie is his best friend since babies boyfriend bc they thought that since they've been close for so long, they may as well give dating a shot. Bill gets paired with Stan who's now going to be his math tutor and the first time they have a tutoring session they end up fucking, and then they keep fucking at every tutoring session. There's so much to this AU so here is the highlights. Stan and Richie fight constantly bc Richie wants to travel and doesn't really a plan for the future while Stan is applying for colleges and needs a structured life. Stan always ends up in Bill's bed after these fights with Richie and Bill is only kinda smug about it. Beverly is also in the student government and is one of Stan's closest friends so there's also that. Bev feels her boyfriend Bill pulling away from her so she organizes a double date with Stozier bc they're such a 'good couple'. She asks Richie first and he agrees bc he just wants to get to know the guy his bf has been spending so much time with. At the double date tho Richie immediately realizes that Bill hates him, bc even tho Bill won't admit it himself, he has real feelings besides fucking for Stan and is jealous of Richie. Also Bill isn't 'gay' in this au. He's not homophobic either, he just won't let himself like guys bc he doesn't want to 'ruin his reputation'. Also on the double date both Stan and Bill excuse themselves to the bathroom. Stan gets mad at Bill for acting rude towards Richie and then the two end up fucking.

There's more aus but these are the most developed ones @s-oulpunk and I have thought out. Feel free to inox her or me with your thoughts, questions, opinions, ect if you want! Like stated, I only gave rundowns of the aus and we have so more we created together and personal ones too!

Favorite character: Stanley Uris or Richie Tozier

Least favorite character: Patrick Hocksetter, like… I feel that Henry has a driving force behind his actions (abusive asshole dad, etc.) but Patrick is just fucking insane, need I remind you of the animal fridge?

5 Favorite ships: Reddie (duh), whatever the ship name for Bill and Mike and Stan is, Stenbrough, Stozier, and of course Benverly

Character I find most attractive: Beverly Marsh, 100%

Character I would marry: Also Beverly Marsh

Character I would be best friends with: Stanley Uris, he’s witty and snarky and very deadpan so kinda opposite of me, I feel like we would balance each other out in a way

a random thought: Okay so here’s a hc - Mike def has a truck and he drives all the Losers to school, everyone rides up front with him except for Richie and Eddie because they are the most distracting. Stan first found out about Richie and Eddie becoming RichieAndEddie when he looked at the truck bed to supervise them and saw the two extremely close and holding hands. He made eye contact with Richie and could tell he was panicking so he mimed zipping his mouth shut and went back to minding his own business, to show that he doesn’t care. But he does give them pointed looks whenever they’re acting super couple-y.

Unpopular opinion: I actually really like the recent movies, like a whole lot. Sure they aren’t masterpieces, but I find them funny and entertaining.

My Canon OTP: Reddie is practically canon, right?

My Non-Canon OTP: Stanlonbrough (that’s one of the ship names for Bill, Mike, and Stan, I think)

Most badass character: Beverly Marsh. She beat the shit out of her abuser TWICE, so good for her.

Most Epic villain: I guess Pennywise? I hate the clown the least, compared to all the abusers and Bowers Gang.

Pairing I am not a fan of: Any of the Losers with any of the Bowers Gang.

Character I feel the writers screwed up: movie Mike and Stan are just entirely token characters who have been boiled down to their minorities (guess who gets the least screen time out of both movies?).

Favorite friendship: Stozier definitely, the chaotic friend and the very done one, it’s great!

Character I most identify with: Stanley Uris, which I have said before. Just his mental health issues. I keep thinking about that scene in the book where Bill is thinking about the blood pact and remembering how Stan pretended he was going to slit his wrists with the broken glass instead of cut his hand. Just more proof that he is troubled like me.

Character I wish I could be: Beverly Marsh. Need I say more?

Reasons to love the 90s Miniseries

- included more scenes from the book- the dam in the barrens, georgie’s photo album, stan birdwatching in bassey park before he sees it for the first time etc.

- stozier’s friendship, like their intro in the barrens is just the best

- the scene where the losers are watching a horror movie: especially when richie ends up pouring soda over the bowers gang to distract them from eddie

- “we. what if we do it”

- the aftermath of the rockfight and the fact that Mike kept the photo they took

Some Thoughts on Stozier in IT Chapter 2

So even since the first movie, I’ve been in love with this ship triangle: Stozier/Reddie/Stenbrough. My gf and I have had some headcanons from the first film as well as the book that sort of held true with the release of chapter 2! Eddie looks up to Bill a lot in the book, and so I always imagined Eddie and Bill would spend some time together telling each other their secrets and all that. So the reverse went for Stan and Richie. And since I love Stebrough, I always thought Stanley, the more mature and level-headed, might tell Richie he’s bi and likes Bill, which would eventually lead to Richie letting him know he’s gay and likes Eddie. This is something between the two of them, and since they’re both unable/too nervous to tell their counterparts they have a crush on them, they sort of confide in one another and have a somewhat closer-than-friends relationship that never quite becomes something real. With these headcanons in mind, here’s some things from the second movie that reinforced Stozier/the idea that Stan and Richie were very close friends, even if Rich annoyed the shit out of Stan ❤️

• Richie in the Jade scene saying Stanley wouldn’t show up because he’s weak; Richies biggest fear is his closeted homosexuality, he obviously hasn’t come to terms with it at that point of the film, so he probably considers himself weak- and projects that same weakness into Stanley.

• Richie saying Stanley was “the best” when they were kids. Obviously he cared a lot about Stan, and this line reflects their closeness they had as kids.

• The boy in the arcade scene having a very obvious resemblance to Stanley (to the point where, on my first viewing of the movie, my gf and I immediately both said to each other: is that Stanley??? before seeing his face).

• When Pennywise chases adult Richie away in the park after singing “I know your secret” and says something like “come play with the clown!”, Pennywise’s face morphs a bit strangly, it looks sort of like Judith, the painting that Stanley hates. It’s absolutely a reach, but when I first saw IT 2, I thought “wow, strange that IT would look somewhat like Judith, whose Stanley’s fear, after telling Richie he knows his secret- almost like Stan had some sort of connection to his secret 👀”

• The Bar Mitzvah scene- Richie being the only one there for him, because they’re truly close friends, and a fight between them won’t bring them apart. Richie cheering him on/clapping for him.

• Adult Richie sitting alone at his temple and saying “thanks for showing up, Stan,” because Stanley was one of the few in the group he really could trust and probably feel safest with (as he had just remembered the Bar Mitzvah, where Stanley makes him feel proud for being a loser). Also, the fact that remembering that moment and thinking about Stanley is the single reason Richie decides to turn around and go back to the losers is kinda, uh, gay 🤷‍♂️

• The fridge scene- Richie going “It’s Stan” with somewhat relief- because he isn’t afraid of Stanley. Obviously this changes with spider-Stans transformation. Stanley’s head going “Richie- what’s happening to me?” in the same soft, scared voice that Eddie says “Richie-“ after getting impaled by Pennywise. Richie’s fear of Stan changing in that scene probably haunts him as much as Eddies death does.

• Spider-Stan targeting Richie, literally trying to bite his face off. I mean that’s just a fun scene, but yknow, in a metaphorical sence- Stan coming between Eddie and Richie. It also can be somewhat of a callback to when Judith attacked kid Stanley in the sewers and bit his face. Richie probably remembers how scared it made Stanley and almost brought about the end of their friendship, and now here’s Stans disembodied, spider head trying to bite his face.

• When Stanley’s letter is being read at the end, he says “be proud,” and it cuts to adult Richie carving in R+E. I like to think Stan may have written that line in specifically for Richie, since (in my headcanons, at least,) Stanley was the only one who knew Richies secret, and he wanted to make sure Richie would grow and become comfortable with his identity, since he obviously was not comfortable as a kid. That line in the letter was a subtle nod to Richie, and may have, once again, suggested the actual closeness between the two.

There’s probably some more scenes I could analyze but I’m blanking at the moment- those ones are the ones that really stuck out for me upon my first viewing (when I saw R+ my first time seeing IT 2, I thought it might end up being R+S, honestly. But obviously I love Reddie just as much as Stozier, so either outcome is great❤️). Obviously some of these are mega-reaches, but that’s just my thoughts on the scenes and how they reflect the friendship/possible relationship between Richie and Stanley!

Edit: Also, sorry if some of these points have already been made (I know @wvattoleff made a post about the boy in the arcade looking like Stan!) I have had these points in mind since I saw the movie my first time, and if someone has already made a post like this one- please let me know!

Alternate Dimension!AU: kid!Reddie & adult!Reddie

So, hm, I have this concept in my mind for so long, but I'm not really into writing a story about it, mainly because I don't have time and I'm a Stozier bitch, so I'll just share it here in the hope that maybe more people will come up with scenes and hcs to this messy thing:

What if, in an alternate dimension, both kid!Richie and kid!Eddie get to meet adult!Richie and adult!Eddie?

- How kid!Eddie would react to the fact that Reddie is actually a couple when they’re adults? And most importantly, how kid!Richie would react?

- Will adult!Richie be all flustered and shy when kid!Richie implies that he’s been into Eddie since a child? How would adult!Eddie react as he’s goddamn oblivious that Richie’s love for him has roots in his childhood?

- adult!Richie and kid!Eddie have a HUGE height difference and adult!Richie keeps going like “you were so cute Eds, you had the size of a pomeranian” and adult!Eddie is just MAD.

- Poor adult!Eddie has to deal with TWO RICHIES.

- kid!Eddie is just chewing his inhaler because he’s not ready to witness TWO RICHIES in full “richieness”.

- kid!Richie would be all flustered while glancing at adult!Eddie. adult!Eddie (red as a tomato) will ask him to STOP, while adult!Richie is half laughing half panicking..

- kid!Eddie is a clueless soft little bean.

When I started shipping them: I shipped Stozier and Reddie, which then led to me shipping streddie, and of course I thought they were adorable, and then upon rewatching Chapter 1, Eddie’s concern about Stan when he disappeared really solidified it. And of course, Chapter 2 fueled it as well.

My thoughts: These two are really adorable! They’re both percieved as cowards when I think they’re two of the bravest losers. I also think they probably challenge each other in a similar way that they do with Richie.

What makes me happy about them: I love the Paddleball scene, just the complete Eddie chaos

What makes me sad about them: Y-Y’know :((

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: When they’re portrayed as weak.

Things I look for in fanfic: Good characterization! They’re both so multifaceted and people sometimes forget that in favor of uwu soft anxious boyos. Oh, and fix-its

My wishlist: For them to both come out on the otherside of the fight with It stronger and happier.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:Bill/Richie

My happily ever after for them: They both survive Ch 2, Eddie divorces Myra and Stanley and Patty remain friends. The two of them continue to connect with each other.

☕️ the first: “reddie is overrated, stozier bichie and kaspbrough are superior” has been said so many times that THAT TAKE is overrated at this point

☕️ the second: shipping bill with either eddie or richie romantically is an inherently screwed up power dynamic due to the intense hero worship both characters have for bill. he can do no wrong in their eyes, and discussing whether or not bill would abuse that power (i think as an adult he definitely would but that’s neither here nor there) is moot because it was doomed to be unhealthy from the start

☕️ the third: bill was an inherently selfish character. this tea is HELLA complicated, so buckle up. he is working from a place of intense trauma and guilt due to the shitty way he treated his little brother before he died, and from the amount of hero worship georgie had for him and feeling like he failed him (separate but why do all these characters worship bill i’m serious because if you’re saying from a standpoint of stephen making everyone worship his self insert, it’s moot bc i don’t even think bill is the self insert in the story but that’s a whole separate tea)

so he had a lot of trauma that he stifled by trying alleviate his guilt by putting the losers in the thick of danger as kids. but the real problem i have with bill is towards the very end. bill, feeling guilty that he cheated on his wife and then had her go catatonic because of what he believes is his own misgiving, chooses to bring audra’s body out of the sewers instead of eddie’s. he literally FIGHTS richie on this until richie gives in (ahem abuse of the power richie gives him) even though eddie was effectively the brother he lost narratively speaking and DIED THE SAME WAY, AND NOT ONLY THAT, BUT DIED THE SAME WAY TO SAVE HIM. but he chooses the guilt of choosing to hurt audra by cheating on her over the guilt of eddie dying for him because, well, at least i didn’t ASK him to die for me! and thus forces the remaining losers to leave their best friend’s body underground with the dirt and the grime to be forgotten without even a proper burial or headstone. another forgotten child, lost to the sewers. another forgotten child, lost in the minds of the losers’ club.

☕️ the fourth: stephen king killing eddie instead of bill was, narratively speaking, stupid as fuck. bill dying instead of eddie would’ve completed his character goal: to see his brother again, and to avenge him. if bill had died to defeat pennywise, his whole arc would’ve made sense. a character so lost in the wake of the senseless killing of his younger brother, that he would do anything—including give his life—to make it right, even 30 years later. but instead he killed EDDIE, the THIRD gay coded or explicitly gay character who died at the hands of pennywise, because… why? what did eddie dying solve, or accomplish, narratively? how did it push the plot forward? he gave a half-assed page and a half death scene and then that was the end of it. a lot more plot-related things would’ve been accomplished if stephen king hadn’t slain his own self-insert. YEAH! EDDIE IS THE SELF INSERT! SECRET TEA! but i’m too tired to tell you all why bc i have to clean up all this tea, but, yeah,

fic list (for my own reference)

CURRENTLY WRITING

STENBROUGH - bill + stan are already dating, soft chats set the evening after the bathroom cleaning scene, stan opening up about his ocd [oneshot] BYLER - will has a nightmare and calls mike over to help calm him down. they talk + hug and mike stays the night by accident. possibly a coming out story? i’m not 100% sure yet but it’s based off the clip in the trailer of the two of them alone in will’s bedroom [oneshot]

PLANNED

STENBROUGH - trans!stan and bill go to the quarry to swim, because stan wants the chance to be alone with bill and talk through the thoughts he’s been having with his sexuality recently. bill is soft + understanding and lets stan vent for ages. possibly a kiss? who knows [oneshot] - 15/16 yr old bill cancels a date last minute because he has to babysit georgie (who is very much alive) so stan comes over and helps, and while bill is cleaning up after dinner he looks over at stan playing with georgie and being Really Heckin Soft and has a little heart-eyes internal monologue [oneshot] BICHIE - the second time in his life that richie hears bill get through a whole speech without stuttering once is when he comes out to richie and tells him abt the big fat crush he's had on him for years [oneshot] - film school au where bill is training to be a director and richie to be an actor. bill’s actor drops out halfway through the shoot and his teacher dumps the most annoying trashmouth in the drama department onto the project. at first bill is frustrated as hell but over the six-week project he realises that richie is actually a Gem that uses annoying-ness as a way of overcompensating for his insecurities (kinda enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, except they were never really enemies, bill just got annoyed by rich being annoying) [multichap- this is a looooong way off] - dyslexic!autistic!richie acts out at school because he’s struggling with the work, and bill doesn’t understand why someone so smart would throw away their potential on trying to be the class clown. one day he shows up at richie’s uninvited and finds him having a meltdown over how difficult the work is, and bill finds it so hard to see him that way that he ends up making a plan where he helps richie with all the reading and writing, as long as richie helps him with speeches and answering questions out loud. [oneshot most likely] - set november/december ‘89, richie + bill are both struggling w personal lives + the aftermath of pennywise, bill becomes protective over richie and they end up getting together when they realise how much they help each other cope [multichap- i’ve started the first chapter but it’s on hold bc i’m focussing on oneshots for now] - inspired by shut up and dance by walk the moon, the boys are getting ready for prom and since they’re not allowed to take each other (bc time-typical homophobia) they're using the time to learn how to dance together [oneshot] - inspired by hold on tight by sarah carmosino (top fuckn song tbh), 18 year old bill and richie are finally taking the chance to get out of derry, fic follows bill’s internal monologue throughout the road trip + looking back on their relationship so far [oneshot] - bill’s known for ages about richie’s shitty home life, and eventually decides he can’t sit back and watch anymore. one day he turns up unannounced and climbs through the window and talks to richie, and hugs him and offers to take richie in to keep him safe. richie is more open + serious than bill has ever seen him be before. [oneshot] REDDIE - eddie gets over his hypochondria after everything with pennywise, but swings a little too far in the wrong direction and gets kinda reckless about looking after himself. when he ends up in the hospital with a nasty case of pneumonia, richie is the only person that comes to visit every single day without fail, and eddie falls a little bit in love with him [oneshot] STOZIER - stan and richie are both trans, they go to the quarry together alone one day and talk about names.
