I'm unable to explain my thoughts well-enough but I do think one of the reasons Odysseus is my favorite hero from the whole Ancient Greece is because I'm brazilian. Hear me out: Odysseus wins by being the cleverest, not always the most inteligent (that would likely be Palimedes, who Odysseus murders at cold blood) and definitivaly not the strongest.

He doesn't take the bow to war but that is his favorite weapon, the weapon that is stated as a coward's one, the one Paris is mocked for using. And that adds to: he refused honor, he tried to dodge his word and avoid the war. He wants the recognizement and glory (as Diomedes absolutly knows) and after they go he does everything to win (looks to all the war crimes including Iphigenia and Pilocteles) but he never wanted to be there at all.

His second act of cleverness is his failure at pretending to be mad (bonus points for the fact Penelope helped, they are two peas in a pot or however the expression goes) and his dishonorable act is what made me fall in love with him. Because dying for glory, for my country, was never really in my culture, if Brazil decided to invade Paraguay again right now even the people who deny the first war crimes would just go "heck no". When President Lula criticized Venezuela even the people that agreed with him were all like "sure but please don't go to war over it we really don't wanna". The army does dictatorships and paint roads and I fully preffer the roads.

On the other hand being clever and resorcefull those are our heros. Loyal not to a country but to their people, and very much not the most moral people. É o jeitinho brasileiro. And while it does help to maintain a culture of corruption (tho absolutly not as much as people make it seem, the corruption is waaay more because of the power imbalance, income inequality, imperialism, the belief the 1% always have that they are better and the dehumanization of the working class). Is the belief that while yes it is absolutly wrong to let's say throw an infant from a wall because otherwise he'll grow up to destroy your family, better Hector's son dies than yours.

Is selfish but it's also in a lot of ways the recognizement that glory is meaningless. Surviving and helping other people survive, achiving happiness is way more important. Our kids are not pretending to be older to go to war and if they try they better prepare to deal with their mother's rage. We are suppose to never get into a fight. But if we do anyway we better win and come back or else.

God I have so much to say about Melinoe's characterization, and the fasinating implications about her future arc/the overarching plot of hades 2. I want to make a larger think piece with pictures but for the moment I'm just going to focus on this one specific thread.

In the wake of the Prometheus reveal, she has a slew of convos about his motivations for siding with Chronos, and the gods basically all go: this is his vengeance for us punishing him a tad cruelly. And Nemesis is like, yeah the gods 100% deserve it. But Meli's responds that he must have more motivation than just vengeance, it can't just be that. But when Prometheus explicitly goes, 'I'm doing this because the gods are horrible to humanity and I love humans,' she basically goes, no he must be lying. That motivation is both too pure, but also humans kind of suck why would you care about them?

Mel's humanity hot takes deserve it's own essay (Ms I think Humans should have never gotten fire and are better when they are dead), and I just want to focus on the former for now. She can not comprehend that Prometheus is fighting the gods for noble reasons. It just does not make sense to her. Mel's world is so black and white. She doesn't understand the nuance of the situation, and the thought that the gods might be actually in the wrong doesn't even get close to crossing her mind.

It's a fascinating (and horrifying) result of her upbringing. Of the constant state of war and the very convenient big bad that is Chronos, the evil monster who stole her family. If she accepts that his side isn't completely evil, that they might even be right in some (even many) respects, she would have to grapple with her whole life. Everything she believes would be thrown into question, the literal thing she was training her whole life for.

She can't have Prometheus fighting for a noble cause, because he fights for Chronos whose the Bad Guy tm. But he also can't be fighting for something as simple as vengeance, because that would also mean she would need to really think about what he's angry about. If the punishment was truly so unnecessary cruel.

When talking to Odysseus about Prometheus, when Ody's saying how much he respected him for stealing the fire despite knowing the consequences, Mel says that it was the price to be paid for breaking Olympus's decree. To her, Olympus's rules are sacred and ultimately good. Unquestionably. Prometheus broke the rules with intent, so to her, why would he be so angry at the consequences? Especially if he knew because of his power they were going to happen.

So he must have another reason, some secret machiavellian plan that drives him. Except as I already said, it brings her right back to him doing it for humanity, which she also can't accept. Because that would be admiting that the gods did something wrong to humans. She twists herself into knots to justify her worldview, and it's fascinating! She's so messy I adore her.

Please Supergiant please the final surface boss has to be a human pleeeaaasse (preferably a living one). Or at least have one (or more) show up in some other capacity. Mel needs to come face to face with the other side and have it utterly destroy her worldview.

And/or have (Pan)Dora betray her for Prometheus, that would also be very fun haha.

Eurylochus Analysis

First things first, it is important to note that despite how I talk about him, Eurylochus is not just a sopping wet cat of a man. He also can kill you. He didn't die at war for a reason. (RIP Eury, you deserved a better captain).

The Troy Saga

The Horse and the Infant

We learn that the soldiers in the horse are like brothers as Ody opens up with: "Alright my brothers listen closely..."

They've also been at war for 10 years, seeing their comrades die. While this isn't exactly Eury content yet it's important to note because Eurylochus has been at war, he's seen his friends die, he's seen tragedies and terrors. This shapes his actions. "Ten years of war they killed us slowly, but now we'll be the ones who slay..."

I will come back to these lines in the future but they are so important to me actually "Do what I say and you'll see them again." "Yes Sir!"

We learn pretty early on that Odysseus is living and fighting for his family. And in the beginning it definitely seems like he's trying to get the crew home. But his priority is his family. Eury's is the crew. Will get to this in a bit.

Just A Man:

Really this is just a precursor to everything that happens. But uh. I felt like I should still include it in this for some reason. Might come back to edit this portion later

Full Speed Ahead

Finally! I get to talk about Eurylochus! First thing to note, he is echoed by the crew, showing that he's closer to them than the captain is. Odysseus is only added onto by the crew, mind you, he's not copied by the crew until later in the song. Also, it's the crew that introduces Eurylochus, and possible the only time the crew introduces someone. "Eurylochus." "600 men." "600 men."

Odysseus may give orders, but the crew is only loyal to him so long as Eurylochus is. And Eury is oh, so loyal, because Odysseus cares about them. He's not just ordering them around, he's trying to keep them alive. The crew is anxious for Odysseus's return, because Eurylochus is.

Open Arms

This feels really similar to Just A Man to me. Although it does serve to show that Polites is closer to his captain than most of the crew.

Warrior of the Mind

Again very similar to Open Arms and Just A Man. We're learning more about Odysseus here than Eurylochus. Which is fine, Ody's the main character. But it does mean there's not much to put here dhdh

Troy Saga Conclusion:

From the Troy Saga we know that Eurylochus is the voice of the crew and is trusted by them. While we could currently say that they trust him more than Ody based on the clues here, but I think that becomes really obvious in later sagas.

Okay so Casey Marie's muscles are something I'm never going to get over. SHE LOOKS GOOD!!!!! Her getup is feeling a little too reminiscent of a cape-wielding superhero for my tastes to be honest - I really loved the more practical outfits she wore in TLR Lost Years, especially in issue 4 when she was running the training mission for the kids. But ah well, I'm sure this will grow on me. FINAL THOUGHTS:

dude that first issue was wordy but the kids were ON POINT. they were so fun!! their dialogue is fun and they kick ass.

i loved yi announcing the punishment for casey while the others were like NOO SHE DIDNT MEAN THAT DONT LISTEN TO HER. we're getting more of their personalities and it's great!! it was a nice throwback to issue 2 of lost years when they were cleaning - yi refused to help because of how strictly she was following instructions. im picking up that she might be neurodivergent but i did get that from the lost years too - only doing things within strict instructions, getting frustrated at teaching odyn chess, not because of him playing horseys with the knights but that it was Against The Rules Of Chess - and now not picking up on some social cues. It's nice to see!! I love her very much, but it feels like besides rehashing the origin story she took a bit of a backseat to the other three.

i want to know more about why uno said being a rebel was moja's 'thing', since she didn't seem to be any more rebellious than the other three in this issue. we didn't get any unique interactions between her and casey marie which is what i felt was lacking from lost years but i wonder if this is hinting towards a more turbulent mother-daughter dynamic with them... I REALLY HOPE SO!! her and uno butting heads in a leo-raph way is very fun - i don't mind one or two prior group dynamics leaking into the new turtle siblings because they're all so different from the original 4.

uno seems to be taking on slightly more of a leader role than moja so i think he won the title of fearless leader. which is fine, i think it'll be fun to see and he's definitely less of an asshole now than when he was growing up in lost years. still picking on odyn a bit but seems to snipe at moja just as much. even when he was commenting on yi's storytelling he didn't make fun of her, though - i think she may have inherited the 2k3 don ability of being Completely Unbullyable.

i was really pleased that odyn felt more involved!! i feel like he took the backseat a few times in lost years - it was fun seeing more of his personality shine through! he and yi seem to get on the best, and i giggled at them rolling their eyes at moja and uno's raph-leo schtick. i didn't expect him to TURN TO FUCKING STONE THOUGH, so i'm nervous about that. WHAT DOES IT MEAN? WHO DID THIS TO MY BOY? IS HE GOING TO TURN BACK NEXT CHAPTER OR IS HE OUT OF COMMISSION UNTIL THE END OF THE RUN??? (if it's the latter i'll be a bit annoyed - don't take odyn away from the equation please!!)

I do wonder if by introducing casually that they can PSYCHICALLY CONNECT, the turtles will use that as a technique to reach odyn's mind to make sure he's still in there and piece together what's happened to him. i mean, their casual telepathy has gotta be some sort of chekhov's gun right?

and shit.... april was so fucking mad casey took the babies out so she's going to EXPLODE when she finds out what happened to her baby boy, her beloved favourite, her baby odyn :''(( im giggling rubbing my hands together waiting for the fallout but also if she cries i might cry too. speaking of april, she seems to be working on a new project and i saw nano particles mentioned - are we going to have a roninverse version of nano in this run???? as always, casey marie... u have aged like fine wine. u are stunning. disappointed that ur still believing that jiro can do good as a cop when their entire police force and government is corrupt as fuck. just feels very naive of her. i'm excited to see her break down at the concept of losing odyn - in fact i need everyone to mourn this beautiful kid. they tell us so much that shes a super clingy helicopter mom and i am picking up on the strict part, but it would be nice to see more of her just... hugging her kids. holding them. i get why she didnt in this issue but id love more mama casey squishing their cheeks and kissing their foreheads.

i have zero fucking clue what's going on with odyn. im wondering if it's somehow related to nano, or to whatever project April is working on - she says it's to do with clearing the tunnels, but I''m not convinced. who knows, there might be some ulterior motive happening.

Hiiii I’m bored cause I can’t focus on reading rn (spongebob is on the tv now 😭) and so have come to bother you about the Odyssey

Your notes about the ending just GOT ME. I agree that it was abrupt and kinda weird (i know he had to go do what the prophet told him to but whyyy couldn’t it have ended with him and Pen snuggling and telling each other about their time apart?? 😭). But also I’m having SO MANY FEELS about how not only did Ody not listen when Athena first calls for the bloodshed to stop but when she tells him a second time (and Zeus sends some lightning for good measure alsjdkdbdm) and he actually pays attention…he’s HAPPY to do so. He’s seen and caused so much bloodshed by now that it’s like he doesn’t really know how to step out of the warrior roll and allow himself to just…be. But he wants to, he wants it all to stop so he can spend the rest of his days with his beloved wife and son, at long last gaining some semblance of peace. And there’s something wonderfully symbolic about the gods FINALLY allowing him that

hades 2 anon!

i'm stuck in my relationship with nemesis because now what i need to advance is a gift other than nectar and bath salts, so i decided to throw my nectar at other characters while i don't unlock this other gift (apparently i need to unlock something in the cauldron for that and so far i haven't unlocked it) and i have updates!

firstly the bath scene isn't necessarily indicative of romance because after advancing enough hearts with hecate i took a bath with her. and we know that not only is she mel's mentor, mel also sees her as a mother figure (hecate even scolds her for this arguing that she shouldn't forget that she isn't her mother). so being able to bathe with ody doesn't necessarily imply he's a romantic interest (remembering that in the first game achilles even rejects the player at some point, claiming that he's still tied to someone else). i think nemesis and icarus (yes this icarus. after giving him nectar and talking i'm really getting the vibe) are possible romantic pairings but i'm thinking the third might be moros and not ody...or even eris

secondly in this game there is a mechanism for planting things to use them as ingredients in the cauldron later. i don't know if you've seen it in any gif or video but in the crossroads ody usually walks to plantations and admires the plants. i thought he did this because he was bored but i recently unlocked dialogue where he promised mel that he would check on the plant growth for her while she was away. so...ody gardening in his free time? well at least now i know why his character keeps looking at the plants. and i found him again in the rest area talking to shades although his dialogue was nothing noteworthy. i wonder if only he'll use this until the end of the game...

thirdly this dialogue i'm going to copy and paste here instead of saying it myself like in the others because i feel like it's probably the type that's best shared just like in the game:

ody You asked before about how I managed it... the pressure to always prevail through what, in retrospect, were... many terribly exciting scenarios, all whilst bearing the burden of so many others' expectations and my own. mel You said you always believed there was a solution, a positive outcome that could be discovered and achieved... I've been thinking about that. ody Good. But, it occurred to me there's something else. 'Twas love that drove me on. The great war that earned me my place in Elysium... I wanted desperately not to go. To stay with my wife and then-newborn son. mel You were left with no choice but to fight. So you held to hope that someday you'd see your family again... ody Sound familiar, does it?

and the interaction ends. so basically ody identifies with mel's desire to return to her family at all costs. this also reminds me of what i said previously about ody saying that he felt lost in the afterlife until hecate found him. we know that in hades he was in elysium but apparently that didn't make him feel satisfied. i wonder if those lines are connected

and there's one more thing that i think is quite important but i'll send it in a separate ask because i want to put together what i know so far about ody's approach and that would make this ask too long

It's very strange to me that Hades game Odysseus is almost so...wishy-washy? One moment it's "oh we amicably broke up." and then he brings up how his love for them drove him forward and how never wanted to leave them.

We don't know for sure yet but I hope it ends up all okay. :D

Gerald Teeth headcanons pt. 2 AKA Gerald lore

In addition to being talkative in his youth, Gerald was known for having an extended vocabulary, using big words for the simplest things. When he got older, he noticed that his vocabulary was getting kind of annoying to his friends (along with them telling him so). So, he stopped

And that was the fact that Agwe (we all know who he is by now, evil voodoo witch doctor who happens to be Gerald’s older brother) was practicing voodoo magic. But not good voodoo like Mama Odie, no no. I’m talking Dr. Facilier voodoo. Yeah, Agwe’s been practicing it since he was little

Because Gerald has this easygoing “do you” attitude, he didn’t question Agwe’s practices and would even watch him use it sometimes. Agwe knew what kind of magic he was dealing with so surely he wouldn’t use it for evil, right? Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case

Gerald loves Monty. He was happy, albeit a little surprised when he learned he had a nephew and loved seeing his son hang out with another kid his age. Plus, Monty was a good kid so he was always welcome in his home

Like I stated before, Gerald met Tina in college. She looked so pretty the day he laid eyes on her, he basically forgot how to speak. Now usually he’d have no problem starting up a conversation, but there was something about Tina that made his heart do summersaults. Somebody was playing “Magic” by Pilot and that wasn’t helping cuz he just stood there like an idiot

The reason he doesn’t talk much around Tina isn’t because she wouldn’t let him, he just loves listening to her voice. The way she talks, how bold she is, all of it. It’s the reason he fell in love with her in the first place

When Teeth said “no” to him and Tina the previous times they tried to get him to follow in their footsteps, he was actually really chill about it. Don’t get him wrong, he wanted to get his son to follow in his footsteps, but wasn’t as bothered by it as Tina was. But every “no” got him thinking “Is this what Junior really wants? I mean, he’ll make other people smile…but will HE smile? Will he even be happy? Maybe music really IS Junior’s destiny”. And before they leave him alone, Gerald always gives his son a little smile of approval

He was the first of the pair to notice the dental bus was gone. Tina told him to get the bus and when he went outside, he just stood there trying to process what the hell happened to it like “….Huh.” Tina was absolutely livid though djvdhhege

He loves cheesecake, like LOVES it. He can have it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Will he get cavities from too much of it? Yup. Will it be worth it? Yup

He and Tina adopted a dog. I dunno what breed it is yet, but his name is Crest and he uses dog toothpaste

Like his son, he doesn’t get mad easily. But when he does, it’s terrifying. He can and will punch you in the face if it ever gets to that.

One example would be after he found out the truth about why he and his family hadn’t seen Mad Monty in so long. Monty told him and Tina everything. His older brother’s dark practices, how Agwe really was behind closed doors, the lying….all those lies that he fell for

Afterwards, Gerald drove down (alone) to Agwe’s house and punched his scum for a brother square in the face, even breaking his mask in the process. Gerald may have gotten hurt via voodoo, but it was extremely satisfying knowing he eventually won the fight

If only someone had stood witness to the destructive nature, that arose from a simple conversation on the sofa half an hour ago, they could have stopped this.

The show on the tv they had watched was forgotten by now, as the two stood strictly three steps apart in the middle of the livingroom. The heavy tension high when they faced each other through hard eyes. Neither of the two boys had backed out yet. Whatever may be said next tonight would only bring the truth that they had ignored for far too long.

And perhaps if they looked back on it, this moment had been nessecary, even though it only brought pain, when Jens overstepped the unspoken and careful line they had draw at one point between their first encounter and this night.

And maybe he would have stopped himself from voicing this sentence out loud, constructed of wrong words and false intent. If only he had cared enough to notice the violent storm brewing on the horizon.

„You do not understand this. You can’t. I’m not doing this to you.“

Too late. The tempest arrived. And they prepared to sink.

„Shut. The fuck. Up.“

Jens did, stunned into silence by the shock at the harsh eyes staring him down. Unfamiliar on a face he could draw blind. The younger boy loomed over him, radiating danger.Unnatural for the younger boy, who always seemed to keep a cool head and mellow attitude.

Lucas took a deep breath. The orange light of the lamp by the piano reflected in his eyes. 

„Shut up, you selfish asshole. God! I’m so sick and tired of this. You never ever fucking listen to me. Never trust me to know what I want.“

„That’s not true.“ Jens tried, his voice deflated at the lie he kept telling to both of them.

„No? Because I am pretty sure that that’s exactly the case.

You never listen. You never let me explain myself. You never talk to me. And I am not speaking about you yelling at me on random nights that you decide to burst.

I know what you are doing and it is self-destructive.“

It felt like a knife had been raised to his throat. Jens lost the ability to think.

„Just this once you are going to stay quiet and let me tell you what I think.“

Jens nodded wary. There was fear there in his heart. He didn’t wanted to listen to Lucas. He didn’t wanted to hear him out. But he had to, That’s what Jens burned on a loop into his mind to keep the desire to scream back locked inside.

„I tell you over and over and over again, that I don’t mind, that I want to be here, that I want to be with you. That you can tell me anything. Every single time.

And you don’t believe me, don’t trust my words, and it fucking hurts to stand on the sidelines. What do you want me to do, Jens? What?

I really want to scream at you rigth now, if it wouldn’t be for Lotte asleep upstairs.“

The hurt was marked deep in the younger boys expression, as he straightened his back. Jens felt small compared to the force that was brought against him. 

The voice only raised loud enough to strike Jens down. Lucas was attentive enough to not wake the only other member in the house as he took a step closer, his hand combing the hair out of his face.

„Jens! This is not going to work. I know what you are doing and it is not going to work!

Botteling up emotions and thoughts in silence hasn’t worked for my mother a year ago and it will not work for you now. Sorry that I have to break it to you. But fuck you! Fuck you for deciding on my behalf. For keeping me out of it. Do you think I don’t know how much this sucks?

Should we have met in the highst of summer, smoking, sipping beer at a lake. Kissing underwater and driving our bike through the heat of the sun. Yes we should have. We should have our parents at home, happy, a bit stressed out by work, but still completely there for us. We should laugh and party and worry about passing history class this year. Waste all our thoughts on what to do for our brithdays and which university to attend. Tough luck. We don’t.

We have this stupid pandemic and asshole governments and on top of it all our family’s problems.

My father is a fucking homophobic piece of shit, yours wasn’t even really around to begin with. 

My mother is so ill, her brain needs medication to function properly. She just left me to figure it all out by myself a couple years ago. I washed my clothes and learned to cook at least some damn pasta. My father burning himself out at work, everything to not have to be home until he took off. She was fucking suicidal at times, breaking down without apparent reason. It’s fucking scary to see traces of it in your behaviour. And I can’t believe that I am the fucking lucky one here between us.

Because, I had Kes to help me through it, when I called him up one day. He listened and never left afterwards. And my mom is getting better. She’ll be fine. I get to have her and my life back soon.

And yes you have it worse. I know. I am so, so, so sorry. Your mom is dying, leaving you with your sister. If us breaking up would fix this, I’d be out already two month ago. But it wouldn’t. 

I fucking love you, Jens, and you are so goddamn stubborn. I wish I could hate you sometimes. I really do.

I was the one who moved to a different city midterm, I didn’t know a single person here, my mom is home maybe two days a week, and would you have told me the moment we met, what was happening in your family, it wouldn’t have changed a thing for me, okay?

Can you at least trust me on that?

You are not to blame for my mom’s absence. But I am not to blame for yours either.

Tell me Jens. When have you ever asked me how I am feeling? I can’t think of a time. But I would have answered you right away. Instead, I kept quiet to not burden you more than you already are. However when I ask you, all I get is silence.

So, I am going to go home, I would have anyway tomorrow with my mom being there the night. And I’ll call Robbe on my way, tell him to come here and bear you company. Lucas shoulder’s sank in a tremble. And Jens noticed he had hold his breath. His lungs burning for air.

„You are not going through this alone. Everybody wants to help you. You just don’t let them.

Think about what you want, what makes you happy. If you decide that a relationship is too much for you at the moment, I promise I’ll understand. But make up your mind. I don’t want to fight you, Jens.

I love you. And.

I don’t know what else to tell you.

I’m sorry. We just got unlucky. Figure your shit out. I’m tired of this. And call me when you can tell me what you want.“

The room dropped into nothingness as the voice ebbed away.

Lucas deserved to give his anger away. Lucas always had kept quiet at his side.

So Jens forced himself to silently watch his boyfriend walk out of the room to grab his jacket and put on his shoes. Jens had followed with his eyes until the younger boy had stepped around the corner, and had found his feet to carry him into the doorway a moment later.

Lucas had waited for him to come and see him leave. How cruel, Jens thought.

They didn’t said another word. Everything that needed to be out there was stated and ready to be dissected over sleepless nights.

The younger boy exhaled, sorrow in his gaze, that was answered by Jens with his own. 

And then the bond snapped and a cold wind hit him, as his eyes kept staring at the back that vanished into the night. Perhaps he should run after him. That’s what people in movies did, right? 

Proclaim their love and shower the other in apologies and heartfelt compliments. A kiss. Happy End.

Jens couldn’t fathom the depth of the despair in his tears as the waters swallowed him whole under crahing waves. At worst this was the end. He prayed it had been needed to make them right one day. For now all he could give Lucas was to follow his wish and contemplate his words.

But what I actually wanted to say was, that I hope that you understand where Lucas is coming from here. My whole story is seen from Jens’s eyes and I’m not going to rewrite certain parts from other perspectives. I’m not going to say that he is completely right and that he hasn’t said some awful things in this one, but try to see Lucas here. If it would have been his clip, I would have inculed this paragraph:

#8 Tourist

Wayward Guide for the Untrained Eye 30 Day Prompt

(This takes place around  Episode 5 )

The walk home felt longer than usual. I was still sore and every step reminded me that I was. When I hit the driveway I leaned on my mailbox and took a little break. I shook my head and wiggled my shoulders with a groan, and started to trek my way-too-freaking-long driveway.

 By the time I got home, I was desperately thirsty. I threw everything on the desk and lurched my way into the kitchen. I slammed a cup of water down my throat; leaning on the sink to keep me standing. It was the sweetest water I’d ever had and I took a shuddering breath with water dripping down my chin after I’d gulped it all down.

 I took a long, hot shower and when I got out I realized my keys were still in the door. Sans my car key. My car. I sighed and took the keys out and threw them onto my desk. 

I took more pain meds and drank two more glasses of water standing in just a towel. As I got dressed, I contemplated everything that had happened. The accident, the conversation with Desmond the night before, and even going to vote had all felt like a weird dream. But it wasn’t. 

I sat on my couch with a cup of coffee. The computer’s blank screen stared at me accusingly. I stuck my tongue out at it. I didn’t want to write. In fact, I wanted to go back down to the Dead Cannery. It was an urge I found alien, alarming, but I didn’t know how to fight it. My curiosity had grown so much that it was defying my usual patterns and pushing me to do what I usually only did when I had been secluded for days on end. I wanted to drink a beer, eat one of Quinn’s meals that left me orally confused, and, most importantly, find out more about what was going on. I didn’t know what Truman had done in the meeting she’d held. I didn’t know how the werewolf rumor was affecting the town. 

I had to know.

With my hair clean and brushed and in fresh clothes, even with the double black eyes, I felt better about being around people. I packed a small bag, with layers in case I walked back in the cold and an umbrella as dark clouds sat on the edges of the bright blue sky when I had poked my head out of the door to check the weather. Gone were the days where I’d look at the weather app on my phone. I also packed more pain killers as my headache was much like the clouds and sat on the edges of my temples, and my notebook with a couple of pens. I felt prepared for almost anything, except for what I actually found when I got there. 

The town was a curled fist of fear and anger. I noted the loudest and the angriest were the Irons family, who I knew only in passing, and I knew they worked for Miner Mole. There was someone who looked vaguely familiar yelling about a dinosaur egg, and new flyers up everywhere for a werewolf hunt. There were other faces that if I had been in other town I would’ve guessed were tourists, but I knew they were probably just people who never spent a lot of time in town and now found themselves shouting about werewolves with bulging eyeballs. It was all about the werewolves. 

Worst of all, I found out as his body was taken away, Odie Doty was dead. 

My mind raced as I sat in the shadows of my usual spot within the Dead Canary. I had my notebook open and I was furiously writing down everyone I had seen that wanted to kill the werewolves. 

Desmond brought me a beer. “I didn’t expect you back so soon.”

“I know. I didn’t think I would be either.”

“Did you hear they’re going to take ore out of the silver mine?” “Was that what Truman had the vote on?”

He gave a somber nod and went back to the bar. 

I wrote that down, too. 

I then made a list of the names of the alleged victims of the werewolves.

Next to their names I wrote down what I knew about them:

Ryan Reynolds: Running for town council, against Miner Mole, wanted the town to stay the same.

Prism: ??? (I had only met her once,, but I had awkwardly declined a reading and had only seen her in passing after that)

Paul: Attempted murder - outsider, nosey, believes in werewolves.

Odie Doty: Mailman -

I held my pen over the paper. And then I wrote “Read everyone’s mail.” 

He must have read something. That was the only thing I could think of. Largely he came across as a harmless, positive guy. 

His body had been discovered during the day. And as far as I knew, he had died during the day. If werewolves could transform during the day, if werewolves weren’t bothered by silver- I hissed at my own thoughts. I was annoyed that this was all ifs and maybes. If werewolves really existed, was what we knew about them true as well? Or was I just basing it off of stereotypes? If I didn’t know what was real, how did I know if they were really being set up or not? All my evidence was flimsy and fueled by imagination and guilt. Yes, guilt. I had a lot of guilt swimming about in my belly with the beer that I was drinking way too fast. I pushed the glass a bit far so I’d have to reach across the table to grab it.

Quinn came back from a meeting at town hall and announced to the bar that he was no longer serving meat, in order to starve out any potential werewolves, but also that Barney Fletcher (it took me a moment to remember Barney and his egg, of course, the dinosaur egg guy) had died right in front of him. 

“It was horrible.” He said when I inquired further. “He was just bleeding everywhere and kept going on and on about his egg which, and I know eggs, was just a regular ol’ chicken egg. And then he even said “I could’ve told you did it just now” and then he died. It was ridiculous. And so sad.” He added the last part as an afterthought. 

“Are you too upset to cook me something? Whatever you feel like making?” I asked cautiously. 

“Too upset to cook? Who do you think I am. I’m working on some new meatless ideas, you know to starve out the werewolves, so I’ll get you something like that.” He paused and looked me over. “You’re not a werewolf right?” I was slightly taken aback, but then he smiled, and I smiled and laughed awkwardly. I went back to my table and wrote down what Quinn told me. I added Barney’s name to my list. And more question marks. Like Prism, I hardly knew Barney and the only connection he really had was his affection for the bizarre. He was an in your face kind of person and I tended to avoid him. Great, more guilt. I couldn’t just torture myself about avoiding people. When you avoid everyone, there are bound to be people you regret avoiding. Well, most people I avoided. I liked to interact with people in the Dead Canary because it felt safe and there tended to be very little happening, even when people got drunk they just kind of slouched into the wood grain and didn’t really do anything dramatic. Usually. 

I heard the bell ding and looked to see that it was Artemis and Paul. It looked like they were recording their podcast so I made sure to scoot further into the shadows. I looked at what I’d written down. I wondered if any of it would be useful, but I had a feeling they probably had more to tell me than I would to tell them. I didn’t want to talk to them though. Something about the microphone and the inquisitive and hyper energy of Paul, I just couldn’t find the energy to face that. I was a writer, I reminded myself, not a journalist. I didn’t seek out the story, I just made sure it was written down. I observed. That was my job. Unfortunately, I missed most of what they were saying in the midst of my inner struggle about socializing. Typical.

My food came just as they left. Quinn tilted his head to where they had been. “Those two, you know the town got mighty suspicious of them today and how as soon as they got here all this stuff started to happen.”

“So it must be the first time this kind of thing has happened then?”

“Well except for Aubrey and his father, no one else talks about werewolves. Before today that would be, well that would be silly.”

I tried to remember who Aubrey was. “But now it’s not silly?”

“No, because people are dying.”

“Was it the werewolves though?” “Who else could it be? Enjoy.”

Who else could it be was exactly what I was wondering as I stared at the bright green presumably edible contraption sitting on the plate before me.

Who else?

Amphiba Reviewcaps Catchup Special: Lost In Newtopia/Sprig Gets Schooled/Little Frogtown/Hopping Mall

In a 4 episode marathon to make up for lost time: Hop Pop handcuffs Sprig to him because that’s not troubling and Polly And Anne head off on their own mostly uninteresting adventure. Sprig gets into college and regrets it  much like most college students. Hop Pop goes on a noir adventure while Anne harasses children and it all ends with a wacky mall adventure that ends in an utter tearjerker. Pitter Patter, let’s get at er after the cut. 

Whelp i’m behind. Over the last two weeks i’ve been busy moving into a new room in the house, and moving my stuff into said room and making it feel like home, and when i’ve had time I either had new coverage to start, or a series passing to honor, or in the case of yesterday had to have my wisdom tooth removed because it got so bad I couldn’t think out of nowhere. SO yeah been a pretty exausting few weeks... but with only one episode left before Amphibia likely goes on hiatus for the rest of the year, Halloween special excepted, I don’t really have the time to dawdle on this. So not much of an introduction let’s hop to it. 

Lost in Newtopia

This will be a quick one, but this one was.. eh. Not BAD, as the first, last and middle scenes are all really good. it’s just between theere it’s not much intresting.  The opening on the bus was pure gold as Hop Pop as usual gets fired up about something boring, then casually handcuffs his grandson because that’s normal. Then again this is the same man who also thought brainwashing his grandchildren was a minor slight so this is a step up somehow. Also he does have some logic for it after Sprig blew up a robot factory and , unbenowst to him, stole a powerful credit card for funsies. But .. get a dog leash or something.  The scene was also great as we got to see Anne’s mom for the first time! And the scene with her wanting to get out and try exotic food her tummy’s not ready for was really adorable and relatable as having a young nice, I understand them asking for things they really shoudln’t have and then holding a grudge over it.  But then the episode just sorta.. sputters for most of it’s run time. The bit with the tail shop is rfairly enjoyable, but the mishap with the vendor and the parade just aren’t all that funny and the basic conciet of tryign to do it up like locals hasn’t been done AS often as I’d think but frankly How I Met Your MOther, Back before it didn’t so much shoot itself in the foot as shoot both it’s legs off, did this slightly better with first time in new york, where the inverse happened, i.e. the locals pretending to be tourists.  The ending scene was great, from Hop Pop going from terror at “street weridos” to casual happiness at seeing his grandaughter and adopted grandaughter (And my heart flew to hear him call anne that. I mean it was obvious but i’ts still nice to hear. Like when Scrooge told webby to Call him uncle scrooge but without the horribly scarring assholery the next episode he still hasn’t properly apologized for to her. ) and Polly and Anne’s terrible names for each other.> It was good stuff it’s just overal an okay episode. Good enough to entertain but just ntohing really out of the ordinary for this show, but with funny enough bits to keep invested. Next. 

Sprig Gets Schooled Ehhhhh... this one HAD potetial, an intresting setting, Sprig getting in on his talent, plenty of fun college tropes, Hop Pop struggling with his grandson leaving the nest.. there was good stuff here, but like too many episodes this season it wasn’t used as well as it couldv’e been. 

The episode has the family come upon Newtopia University, where Sprig’s talent with stopping mantises and with a fiddle gets him a scholarship, which is one of Hop Pop’s dreams, but both quickly regret it: Sprig dosen’t fit in while Hop Pop misses his baby boy. It comes to a head with Sprig tryign to sneak in and Anne and Polly trying to sneak in for hyjinks. 

But overall it’s just.. eh. it has a few good gags, but the anne and polly plot has been done so many times by now, and while that alone isn’t enough to make it not all that fun the fact it isn’t funny or unique is when The Simpsons, Undergrads, Futrama , Solar Opposites and Bobs Burgers just off the top of my head have done fratboy hyjinks episodes way better.

 But what dosen’t help is while Hop Pop’s emotional part of the episode, missing his boy and wanting him to come bome, works, Sprig just.. get sbored. There’s nothing about how hard school is or him missing the others it’s just.. he dosen’t like it so he tries to leave. Instead of having an emotinal episode about him possibly fitting in there, or struggling to fit in there or some third thing it’s just.. an average 10 year old not liking college becuase of course he dosen’t. He’s too young to keger or really ond with his clasemates. It’s just an eh watch. Not as unpleasant as quarallers pass but without that episodes good parts to really help it be entertaining. Ugh.  And you might say “well every episode dosen’t have to have an emotinal core jackass” which.. yeah your right. But it has to be funny. Or entertaining or have something and not just be .. eh. You CAN be just a funny episode if you do that right. And amphibia USUALLY does that and has an emotional hook to make it even better. And the proof is in the next two episodes. 

Little Frogtown Now this.. this is more like it. After two less than memorable episodes, we get two classics in a row. Granted since I grew up on calvin and hobbes and thus grew up with the two tracer bullet arcs...

Well three techncially with the haircut thing but yeah, given one of them was in my first comic strip collection ever, the indespensible calvin and hobbes if your curious, I’ve always had a soft spot for noir episodes and to animations credit there have been some classics; The recurirng Numbah 2 detective stories in Kids Next Door, Venture Bros classic “everybody comes to hanks” and of all things, Garfield Babes and Bullets. Yes that happened and yes it IS actually good. 

Oh and if your wondering if Garfield solved something family friendly like a Lasanga Robbery, or his teddy bear going missing or odie being kidnapped for a dog fight nope! He’s hired by a college professors wife to find out who killed her husband since it looked like a simple accident, but unsuprisingly it wasn’t. Oh and did I mention that not only is this based on a story from the book garfield’s 9 lives, which got it’s own special for the rest of the stories it chose to adapt and a few new ones to replace those it didn’t, but in that story it’s about a chuch deacon. That’s right Garfield tackled corruption in the church. Your welcome. But i’ve talked about Garfield Babes and Bullets enough.. I mean for today. I clearly need to cover this and 9 lives as a whole at some point. Let’s get back to this episode. Point is noir parodies are great and gafield has done some weird and wonderful shit.  But my like of it aside this is a genuinely clever episode that has it’s own neat takes on the genre. The basic setup is simple: Hop Pop takes the kids to Sal’s, a restraunt owned by an old friend of his who got so sucessful with his delcious sandwitches and secret sauce he moved up to Newtopia.. but when Hop Pop finds the place he finds it in shambles, with no one there and Sal entirely missing. So while the kids head off for the arcade next door, Hop Pop goes into full noir mode to find his missing friend.  It’s that core that works. Sure lots of shows use the “friend we only just heard of” plot device but here it works because it’s so simply used here: They were friends years and years ago, sal moved away probably decades ago, and he simply hasn’t kept in touch. Both are busy: Sal with his restraunt and what we find out here, and Hop Pop with his family and later having to swoop in when his daughter or son and their spouse died. It’s perfectly acceptable. To me while i’ve bitched plenty about cliches it’s mostly been about HOW you use them. About using them right instead of just coasting on an old plot to fill out your episodes for the season. If you don’t have an intresting story to tell, then use the 11 minutes for something ELSE. And here.. they do and have a fun spin on noir by having hop pop’s narration talk to him. While that’s happened before with narration gags I haven’t seen it in a noir parody before and it’s just pure comedy gold, and Bill Farmer’s acting makes you genuinely invested in finding out what happened to this character you never met. Bill really sells how worried hop pop is without over doing it and how important this guy and his sammiches are to him. 

The final twist while not entirely suprising is intresting: Turns out , after Hop Pop finds people seemingly having stolen the recipie, Sal’s restraunt.. simply went belly up. Which sadly, makes sense: he had good ingredients but he’s in the world’s capital, where ther’es probably tons of mom and pop restraunts and giants of cuisine. It’s hard to start a buisness anywhere let alone the biggest city int he world. So Sal simply pivoted, sold his recipie and became a billionare. It’s a good solution that teaches hop pop a lessson: Change happens, things you really love like comfort food restraunts won’t last forever. I myself miss when this area I live in had a tgi fridays and it’s probably never coming back> Things change.. what matters more is people and moving on. Though he does send hop pop on with a bottle of sauce. It’s a good lesson for kids and a fine ribbon tied on one of the season, and hte series, best.  And of course before we move on we have the b plot which is funny as it is relatable as some little shit steps in line in front of anne and being anne she overreacts.. and gets tazed and gets everyone banned. Not a huge subplot but it’s funny as it is relatable as someone whose both stood in massive lines and had people cut in and felt it was massively unfair. Never got into a fistfight over it but tha’t sbecasuse arcades are rare and cornona probably wiped out the rest. Ha ha.. I hate this year. One more!

Hopping Mall

Last one. Another simple plot: Hop Pop forces the kids to use 2 coppers a piece to buy souviners instead of letting them use the card because it means more.. which is bullcrap. While using your own money for a present DOES mean a lot, my mom gave me money plenty of times to buy gifts and covered me plenty. The real meaning behind a gift for someone is that you picked it out yourself, that whatver thing you picked made you think of them and that you meant it for them. Weather it be a mug, a billy bass, or the great mighty poo on a t shirt, what matters is it comes from the heart. Though Hop Pop also buys himself an easy chair and sends it home and admits h’es a hypocrite so maybe we’re not supposed to take him seriously.  While this is there to make drama mostly for Anne it’s a plot device I like as it’s both the kind of nonsense an adult would make and then not follow, and it leads to a really good plot as our kids find their things; Hop Pop introduces the kids to haggling, which Polly mistakes for using tried and true mafia approved methods of intpmidation, leg breaking, arson and threats of all of the above andc omes back with her own snail and tiny cart. Sprig being sprig finds a gift for Ivy in seconds that’s a nice stick.. that also shooots lasers because I dunno. Also nice of the show to actually MENTION his girlfriend.... several episodes in.. with again NO goodbye to her or anyone else. And yes that’s still a sticking point this far in it wouldn’t of killed them to include that in one of the premire episodes.  Anyways that leaves Anne who finds a nice teapot for her mom, but soon has to do what all people who can’t afford a tea pot too: enter a demolition derby against a mother daughter team using shopping carts. It’s a neat set piece, as is Anne apparently knowing carts because her and her friends hung around the mall a lot, which given we saw her and sasha out and out steal one for hyjinks, it’s a nice continuity nod. Anyways our heroes win the race, but Sprig looses his stick saving polly and their rival has to ravage her tail to save polly again. I also love the return of the “not the baby!” cry from “Marcy at the Gates” which I also swear has been used before on this show but can’t remember specifically where.  It’s revealed their rival, and her daughter both of which are entertaining especially the daughter, wants the pot because it was one of her mom’s designs and it means a lot and that touches a nerve with Anne, so she lets her have it, but does get a lovely butterfly clip from the daughter. After the hop pop gag we get the most infamous, and best scene of the episode that ties the above together.

 Sprig wakes up to find Anne ruminating on the balcony.. and for the first time since she got here really, she breaks down a bit about how much she misses her. And my honest interpretation is she’s been holding how bad she feels for her mom, who she admits to not having the best relationship with but both loving each other dearly: That she likely blames herself for the theft, for listenting to sasha, for getting them all stranded, for destroying her friendship with Sasha and possibly not being able to bring her home with her. But mostly for causing her parents undo pain, having no idea how hurt they are or what they’ll feeel when she comes back, no idea if she’ll even be able to make it home and see them again.. it’s a lot to hold in and with all she’s had to deal with I feel she’s been holding it inside just so she dosen’t snap. She already has enought o deal with especially after “reunited. Thinking for amoment about how her parents are likely in utter misery desperatley looking for her when she’s not even on earth... it’d break her.. and it does. She admits missing her, regretting they fought all the time and sobbing a bit... and the scene only gets sadder when Sprig interjects.  He asks a simple question; What was she like. While we STILL don’t know the specifics we finally find out that his mom died when he and polly were really little, polly was probably a newborn... he never really knew her and wonders.. can you miss someone you never really knew? It’s a sad, sobering moment. We assumed sprig was fine with his parents being gone because like Anne and her parents he just never brought it up. But sometimes a person just burys something or is sad or upset in private, speaking from personal experince here. Sometimes you don’t talk about something beacuse you don’t know HOW and Sprig likely just dosen’t want to make hop pop more upset at reminding him his daughter and or son and daughter in law and or son in law are dead, something he likely deals with every day. It’s a powerfully acted scene and ends as the two cry softly together while the credits play over the newtopia night sky. Just a beautiful powerful scene that ties a mostly comedy episode together into something fantastic and like it’s partner episode, one of the series best.

1. What influenced or inspired the creation of this character?

i honestly don’t really remember what i was thinking of when i made her! i think she was a branching off from her older sister’s design, but im realizing she’s definitely at least a little inspired by Thomas Blackshear and her design was definitely influenced by me looking up aasimar and getting annoyed seeing blonde haired blue eyed paladins....i also really wanted a lawful good character but we all saw how that panned out IUSHFDISHF

2. What is your character’s relationship with their family? Family is a word which here refers to biological relatives, close companions, and/or the individual(s) who raised them.

biologically? nonexistent since, as far as she knows, she’s the last - but she has her suspicions. 

love and care -wise? she cares deeply about her family back at the monastery, even if she’s too embarrassed to go back. it’ blatantly obvious she has nothing but love for Odi, even if she says mean things about him😔 she considers the main party her family at this point, since the fluctuation of people in and out of the monastery has influenced her concept of family - anyone who fights and rests beside and for her is someone considered family tbh. she just. doesn’t say that bc she knows it takes more than that for some people and she doesn’t wanna freak anyone out UISHFUISDF

3. Who is the closest person to them?

AUGH...i accidentally made the stoic monk a social butterfly so relationships shift every session...like i want to say rose because they literally share a bed so she knows things about moreau by virtue of sleepover talk and vice versa?? but also azar because their heart is the one moreau wants to understand most, since they were friends at the beginning of the campaign and their characters were both great foils for each other, so she’s actively prioritized them over the rest of the party bc she wants to see them living their life without that mask😔 BUT ALSO she and sm has a very sweet burgeoning sibling dynamic forming, and she does love to tease and watch out for him since she considers him her younger brother at this point. he’s also trusted her with his name, and she’s not sure he’s done that with anyone else in the party so she’s holding that close. AND THEN THERE”S MORRIGAN who was her quintessential gay “do i want to BE you or do i want to be WITH you” crush for a hot minute before she realized that she feels a kinship/understanding with morri that was only solidified during Library Cry Time ...i didnt answer the question.

4. What were the conditions surrounding their formative years? 

well! she was raised in a cult trying to bring about the end of the world so there’s that! she was treated well given her circumstances but i can’t really go into that cause it’d be meta >:3c she had to do a soft-reset from ages ~9-13, where she was emotionally stunted but still influenced by her hothead brother (as seen in her reactions with authority). there was a lot of discipline but her home was more lax that other monasteries, so she still dealt w like. teen drama shit UIDHF

Description of poppy’s physical appearance only applies to the fic. Of course, they would be different if she was actually in the show.

Full name: Pauline Odette ‘’Poppy’’ Whiteway.

Meaning for the name: Pauline; small. Odette; wealthy, but this is not important to the story. her mother is a fan of the swan lake.

Do they like their name: she’s kinda meh about Pauline, she doesn't feel like that's her name and goes by poppy with basically everything. It's how her parents called her :). She does like Odette!! But it's a very regal name and that doesn't fit her vibe so she doesn't tell it to people much.

Nickname: Poppy, of course, “Odi” by Steve sometimes. She gets called “Whiteway” a lot too, but she’s a lot less fond of that one.

Age/Grade: she’s 16 in season 1, but turns 17 right after Will gets back. I think?

How old they appear: she looks about her age, but her… energy portrays someone with a lot more life experience. even though she’s basically a child lol

Eye colour: a blue-ish shade of green. It changes a little with the light so you could call it hazel I think.

Glasses?: nope! She could use one for reading things far away, but she refuses to buy one. Says they get in the way.

Weight/Build: not thin, not fat. She’s somewhere in the middle, I mean she’s obviously muscled, but I like to think she’s also a little squishy.

Height: 5”10/1,79-1,80. A tall girl.

Skin type: I like to think she’s a little tan, maybe a bit olive skin. She gets a lot paler in the winter though. She’s part French part Italian. 

Hair Color and Length: auburn/chestnut, very warm brown. It gets a red-golden tinge when the sun shines on it. She has wavy curls, and it's slightly shorter than mid-length. like not that long but she can put it in a ponytail

Taste in Clothes: This is my Pinterest board for her, all the outfits are things she’d wear!

Healthy? Why or why not: she’s pretty healthy, but is often in pain due to the injuries she gets from boxing, fights and her uncle.

Music: Punk!!! And all the songs in the playlist above of course. She’s secretly also a big fan of the Romantics and Duran Duran, but will never admit this (especially not to Jonathan).

Daredevil or cautious: cautious when it comes to her loved ones and friends, but when it comes to herself a true daredevil. She’s very impulsive, to say the least.

Are they the same alone: I like to think she’s a little more peaceful, and in stressful situations, she tends to be very cocky as a defence system? But apart from that, she’s pretty much the same.

Good habits: standing up for her friends, being supportive, does not give up easily. Doesn't actually skip school that much! Only when necessary.

Bad habits: worries too much, nervous ticks like tapping her nails, biting a pen, the leg bounce, that stuff. Loses her shit in the ring and goes feral, it's kinda scary.

Hobbies: she loves movies and tv shows, a big comic fan, playing the guitar, THE BIGGEST STAR TREK FAN it's so cute oh God. She likes drawing and making her own clothes sometimes, music is very important to her too.

Family situation: bad. Both her parents and brother died in a mysterious accident, she now lives with her abusive uncle (David) because she has nowhere else to go. She has an aunt who lives in Chicago but they’re not exactly on friendly terms. Her family is judged severely in Hawkins, the town blames them for bringing crime into Hawkins when her grandpa moved in. That's true, but her father did everything he could to change that.

Friend situation: she’s friends with Jonathan of course, and on a friendly basis with all of the kids. she’s like a big sister to Will and eventually a sister to Jonathan too. she was best friends with steve when they were kids but he sort of abandoned her when her parents died

Deepest Fear: I think to lose the people she loves. She’s been through this too much and it makes me sad how scared she is of it.

Worst that could happen to them: the thing above, she hates being controlled too but it’s something she has to go through.

Favourite thing: being comfortable with people. Just hanging out with her friends and the kids and not feeling so horribly alone the whole time.

Favourite person/role model: her parents and her big brother, but apart from that, I think Joyce!! And eventually, hopper, though she sees him as a cop still, and cops haven’t been very kind to her.

What would break them: losing the people she loves. She’ll blame it on herself. It's not pretty.

Best/worst thing in their life: worst, the death of her parents, and best I'm not sure, a lot of little moments with her family, with the Byers and a few with Steve when they were kids?

What are they reluctant to tell people: that she’s a Whiteway. But everyone in Hawkins knows and outside Hawkins, they don't care, so I don't think that matters. About her boxing too, that's a very touchy subject. And the fainting of course!

Opinion on sex/relationships: even though she can be a very sensual person, I like to think she’s a virgin, but not necessarily against sex. She does have trust issues, to protect herself, so I think through all she wants is to not be alone, a real relationship sounds scary to her.

Major Flaws: trust issues, loyalty, she can be cold sometimes, but as a defence system. Doesn’t give up, even when she should.

How do they feel about themselves: she doesn’t hate herself since she spends so much time alone she’s become her own best friend, but I do think she thinks she's a burden to others (even though she doesn’t)

Selfish or selfless: completely selfless, but selfish in a playful way.

How do they try to differ from what they actually are: she acts tougher, I mean she is, but she does that to protect herself, even though it doesn't make people like her, per se.

DOES HE TALK EASILY, OR DOES HE HESITATE? —-Depends upon who he’s addressing, but usually he takes his time speaking and speaks through a hoarse and quiet tone. Words come to Negan very easily and he never hesitates or stutters on anything he says. 3. DOES THE CHARACTER HAVE A DISTINCT ACCENT OR DIALECT? ANY INDIVIDUAL QUIRKS OF PRONUNCIATION? ANY, LIKE, YOU KNOW, VERBAL TICS? —-Negan’s accent is vaguely southern and he doesn’t tend to have any kind of verbal tiks or quirks (other than cursing a lot). 4. WHAT LANGUAGE/S DOES HE SPEAK, AND WITH HOW MUCH FLUENCY? —-Really only knows English but has probably picked up a little on Spanish from school, but nothing substantial in the least. 5. DOES HE SWITCH LANGUAGES OR DIALECTS IN CERTAIN SITUATIONS? —-Nope, sticks to what he knows. 6. IS HE A GOOD IMPROMPTU SPEAKER, OR DOES HE HAVE TO THINK ABOUT HIS WORDS? —-VERY good at being well spoken on the spot and seems to always know exactly the thing to say in any situation right away. 7. IS HE ELOQUENT OR INARTICULATE? UNDER WHAT CIRCUMSTANCES MIGHT THIS CHANGE? —-He’s eloquent in his own vile sort of cursing way. Even in dangerous, life threatening situations, he retains his eloquent and well spoken nature.

Both are exactly what brought him to being a strong leader and keeps him on top. 2. DOES HE THINK ON HIS FEET, OR DOES HE NEED TIME TO DELIBERATE? —-Is very capable of doing both, but he tends to succeed more when he has time to deliberate and form a plan that he can enact in a coordinated way. 3. DESCRIBE THE CHARACTER’S THOUGHT PROCESS. IS HE MORE LOGICAL, OR MORE INTUITIVE? IDEALISTIC OR PRACTICAL? —-Negan meets all these criteria as it largely depends upon the situation. He’s a very adaptable thinker, taking in all the angles he sees for consideration and going from there. However, he tends to go for a more practical approach with a mix of logic and intuition (though it is HIS logic and intuition he relies on, which can be seen as backwards and cruel). 4. WHAT KIND OF EDUCATION HAS THE CHARACTER HAD? —-A bachelors degree in physical education. 5. WHAT ARE HIS AREAS OF EXPERTISE? WHAT, IF ANYTHING, IS HE INTERESTED IN LEARNING MORE ABOUT? —-Due to his extensive schooling in physical education, he knows how to train bodies to be physically fit, knows the endurance of the human body, and everything in between. He also thinks certain scientific things are pretty interesting, though doesn’t have the time nor enough interest to pursue learning more about these things. 6. However, he can be prone to certain outbursts of anger when he’s pushed too far and can act out verbally and physically. Even through these bursts of anger, he’s able to pull himself back and reassert his collected demeanor. Most times his anger is quiet and holds a sense of forebode. 8. IF YES, HOW DOES HE DEAL WITH THEM? —-Negan has a lot of behaviors of having an antisocial personality disorder and comes close to checking off a lot of symptoms of being psychopathic, but not completely for both. Clearly has some repressed emotions and unaddressed grief regarding his late wife Lucille, whom he couldn’t put down and holds a lot of guilt over. From that, he probably still has some lingering PTSD and is projecting some of that onto his bat, Lucille, by having the weapon somehow fill that void of his wife. 13. WHAT MOMENTS IN THIS CHARACTER’S LIFE HAVE DEFINED HIM AS A PERSON? —-Losing his parents, being diagnosed as infertile, losing his wife Lucille to cancer, and rising through the ranks to become the leader of the Saviors. 14. WHAT DOES HE FEAR? —-Loneliness. Being completely and utterly alone with no one. 15. WHAT ARE HIS HOPES OR ASPIRATIONS? —-To lead his people into a prosperous future where he’ll continue to lead them, protecting and providing for his people, and aspiring to rebuild civilization with his own set of rules and ideals. 16. He is also vehemently against rape, believing it to be a very savage act and warranting immediate death. He’s always held these beliefs, even before the world began to fall, but those beliefs came out much stronger than before once societal rules were no longer in place. 4. IS HE TOLERANT, INTOLERANT, CURIOUS, INDIFFERENT? —-There’s a strange sort of curiosity in those that have different beliefs than him, almost like he tries to understand why they believe the way they do, but when it comes down to his hard and clear cut rules, he is wholly intolerant of them. For example, if someone follows a specific religion, he’s surprisingly tolerant and genuinely curious. But if someone believes blatant and senseless murder is fine, he is entirely and vehemently intolerant. 5. WHAT PREJUDICES DOES HE HOLD? ARE THEY IRRATIONAL OR DOES HE HAVE A GOOD REASON FOR THEM? —-Only prejudices he holds are those against people who have wrong him in ways he perceives to be wrong.

DAILY LIFE

1. WHAT IS THE CHARACTER’S FINANCIAL SITUATION? IS HE RICH, POOR, COMFORTABLE, IN DEBT? —-Being the leader of the Saviors, he has barely any need or want for anything as he can get whatever he’d like in a moment’s notice.
