Officer, I'd like to report a robbery. Because THIS is not a last placer in Eurovision, are you fucking shitting me. Who the hell sees that performance and thinks "well this is obviously worse than Albania"?

Granted, Honeypie's struggle to climb off the bottom was always a steep one, long before Christer put the finale stake in her heart by having her open the strong semi. Malta's selection was the expected unwatcheable shitshow (amazing that somehow, Lux, Denmark AND Germany all managed to be worse) and it was a small miracle they picked something decent.

In this case the "decent" entry was shallow slutpop - LOOK I KNOW that term offends some people (get a life) but, that's what Loop was ok?! An anthem for the manwhores (or in my case, wannabe manwhores, in fact de facto hermits with a crippling fear of rejection) to be their salacious slaggy selves to. It's trashy and fun and as shallow as a puddle, which is how I like to see myself as. Under the guidance of Malta's lavish budget, "Loop" then blossomed into a budget SloMo and was the unexpected, but deserved winner of MESC.

(and she aborted that afterbirth Satan Banan in the process thank Mother Teresa for that)

Of course, "Being A SloMo" always comes with diminishing returns since the original holds such massive standards. Chanel to this day has the best live execution of a flirty girlbop. (evidenced by her clowining on Eleni during the opener of semi 1 ♥) "Budget SloMo" is going to struggle even harder than a regular clone with the powercreep, along with the Maltese flag, ALONG with the garbage R/O based on assumptions and betting odds (isn't it time we return to FULLY RANDOMIZED R/Os?) and along with the myriad of girlbops in the 2nd semi, most of which weren't outright trashfires.

However, despite "Loop"s many flaws, Sarah was always a shining beacon of grace and slaytitude. No matter what you think about the song (it's fine), that woman KNOWS how to put on a show, and that's precisely she did.

Seriously, Aiko was good, but a lot of that the surprise factor of her discovering her newfound talent of breath control. I knew Sarah was good going into the semi, and she promptly proved that yes, all the diva's were born as a human beings. She was drawfucked, and that all it was, rly. (at least compared to Nutsa who had a similar package and a worse song). Sarah's✨ ditzy personality ✨ really shone through as she queened her way through her quartet of meatsack himbots.

(speaking of ditzy omg remember when all the dystopian joost shit went down on friday and sarah innocently announced amongst the confusion she had an IMPORTANT UPDATE TO MAKE AT 18:00, and it was her NEW SINGLE "Lose", ♥♥♥ every twitter dummy jumped to the conclusion that she was the 11th placer because her live had just been THAT GOOD ♥ and ofc she won the semi because she got to move on from eurovision 2024 fewer than 24 hours after her elimination, while the losers of the semi such as nemo contemplated quitting altogether. Slay, sister. 💋 )

"Loop" was also one of the rare instances of Malta nailing staging. I say rare and I mean it. Name two more examples? It's just both Ira 1.0 and Michaela, am I misremembering? Copy your homework from Chanel and you'll be good, lol.

So yeah, she came last in the semi. An NQ I can live with, but last is... unfair but hey, SHE WASN'T A DEMON OR A NUDIST or whatever the equivalent for semi 2 was (a traumatized zoomer monsterclown or a zionist nepobitch?). It's certainly was no help that Malta somehow decided to designate A DANCE BREAK (I initially wrote "the dance break" but lbr, Loop has at least five of them ♥) as the recap footage (pro-tip: the audience doesn't tune in for dance routines, but for the songs around them), but everything else was.. good? Vocals, act, even the song after a few retouches? There's obviously a ceiling to how high I can carry a "Loop", because it was never an actually good song, just a very fun empty vessel for Sarah to fill with her Ditzy Diva Deva personality. This spot (17th) is that ceiling.

For I recognize what "Loop" truly was.

just watched maxxxine 2024 w my sis.. i wasnt expecting much bc i havent heard absolutely anything abt the movie since it came out, but tbh i was still disappointed considering i rly liked the other 2 movies from the series (x 2022 and pearl 2022). p much everything abt the movie was lackluster, from the setting and vibes to the characters, plot, and even maxine's own character arc. some gory scenes were nice, but not all of them, and they were few to begin with.. tbh it didnt even feel like an horror movie, it was honestly more of a detective/crime movie so even the genre was off

my biggest complain its that it wasnt scary at all. it didnt even make me feel tense.. :/ like dont get me wrong i wanted maxine to survive, i like her character (tho thats mostly cos i know her from x 2022. maxxxine 2023 wasnt rly good at showing her best attributes), but the stakes werent that well presented imo.

edit!! alsoooo (SPOILERS) its like they couldnt pick what theme to rly focus on???

1st we got her trauma as a massacre survivor (from x 2022): her survivor guilt, her overly defensive/ paranoid attitude (that, sidenote, was justified in the movie bc of the stalker situation), her will to make it all worth it. this was present, especially at the beggining, but BARELY (the knife alley guy scene was nice (but, again, not scary) and the mask mold making scene was actually good but the scenario was so fuckin dumb....... who leaves someone alone like that while they have all that covering their face??? the person could be claustrophobic? they could freak out, faint. if not, someone could go wrong anyways. they could be allergic, the substance could get into their nose or mouth and make them choke?? like seriously no one would leave you alone in that situation. AND DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE MASK'S PURPOSE. they didnt even need one for that scene!!!!!!!! you cant even see from the neck down!!!!!!!)... and then they did Nothing with it. actually Nothing.

then we got maxxxine's past which she run away from: her upbringing which she was grateful for but wasnt gonna make her happy (aka, a star), a father who potentially loved her but didnt accept her, her catholic guilt roots. all that..... so much potential n was so poorly done. the father dude was so not scary not before nor after the reveal (which btw i saw coming from miles ago, not that that was bad). he didnt even feel like maxines father tbh???? he was just some crazy religious dude. it almost came off as if he was delusional and he was the only one who believed maxine was his daughter?? idk the emotional connection between them was srsly lacking.. and yeah maxine shoots him but AFTER that detective lady (super dumb character and "subplot" btw....) shoots him to the ground. it was p much over by the time maxine goes to him and even if she recognizes the impact he had on her when she was a child, its ultimately just words, its not rly impactful bc we see nothing beyond that homemade video. idk.

and finally we got the "i deserve being a star and i will do whatever it takes" angle, which was present the whole time and, again, they did NOTHING with it. actually after havimg watched the teaser/trailer i THOUGHT this was gonna be the angle. like, with pearl 2022 it was abt this country girl that can do nothing but dream abt being a star so when she fails she breaks down and ends up... like that. instead, maxxxine its about a girl who CAN do more than dream about it, who is willing to do anything to get what she wants bc shes a survivor! bc she went thought it all! bc she deserves it! bc she did everything for it! and she succeds! and its horrific and tragic but also you want that for her bc she wants it more than anything and FIGHTS for it! ........but it was none of that. WHICH ITS FINE it didnt have to be that, specifically. but instead, if was not much at all??

ok. let me see if I can express what I’m thinking.

cordelia and xander’s relationship to me at first was a crack ship, and it seemed intended to be. but then it started to grow on me. i started actually caring about them as a couple and liking how their relationship developed. the rivals to lovers to s/o’s was cute. i started to like cordelia for more than just her comedic relief.

then, season 3 happened. not only do they not act like a couple (which they never rly did, but at least they used to have some sweet moments), they put in the mf CHEATING storyline. xander’s attraction to willow was sudden like a bus crash. it came out of nowhere and made no sense. both willow and xander were in good places in their relationships, and this was when we realised that cordelia’s feelings towards xander were deep and real (which she has never experienced). she admitted that she loved him, she said she would always stay with him when she thought he got turned into a creepy fish creature, she had photos developed of him and them that she stuck in her locker. meanwhile - xander’s feelings remain stagnant. he has no scenes where he admits his feelings for cordelia or even speaks kindly about her. pretty much, we’re led to believe that he doesn’t care as much about cordy as she cares about him.

AND THEN, during the whole freak show of willow and xander’s cheating, willow tries to resist xander because she knows it is wrong (trying to find a spell for it etc.) but xander doesn’t seem to show any restraint and only seems remorseful bc willow is remorseful. he is the one who makes all the moves even when willow says not to. and he doesn’t feel guilty about it the way willow does.

this culminates in them kissing AGAIN after being kidnapped by spike only to be found by cordelia and oz (who also deserves better), and then cordy falls and gets IMPALED by a fucking wooden stake. fucked up, but she survives, and then XANDER ASS comes to the hospital with flowers and an explanation. but before he can, cordy says to stay away from her, which is understandable. but what does Xander do? does he show genuine remorse (at cheating, not at being caught)? does he make a genuine apology for cheating and stringing her along even when he didn’t have deep feelings for her? No. He leaves, and we don’t get any scene where xander expresses any genuine feeling towards cordelia, not even in his many voicemails. And this is the writers fault, and their blatant mistreatment towards the character of cordelia (and the actress).

and ik cordelia can be a bitch and that in s1 she was sort of a bully, but she literally gave up her popularity, friends, and social standing to date xander publicly. he didn’t have to sacrifice anything and totally took her for granted. not to mention he decided to date her when he was STILL in love with buffy and had feelings for willow.

and then the next episode? xander BLAMES oz and cordelia for walking in on them and blaming them for cheating bc “they were about to die so it would be the last kiss” ??? like??? what??? I wish he was joking but you could tell he actually believed it. and when everyone found out he cheated, everyone alienated her and mocked her.

the moral of the story is: cordelia/xander deserved better, cordelia and oz deserved better, xander and willow SHOULD feel bad and guilty, and that s3 characterisation is all over the place.

What are your thoughts on the yellowjackets finale?

i have a lot, omg. i re-watched it before answering this to see if i picked up on anything i'd missed previously or if anything new ideas/theories/observations sprung to mind.

all in all, i think it was a good episode. i feel like we're rly leaning into the supernatural, but i'm enjoying it bc i think it's being done effectively. i was wary of the show going into supernatural territory that it maybe wouldn't be able to pull it off, balance it with the other elements, or tonally shift too much away from the girls as agents making choices to survive and cope with the trauma of being stranded. but i'm actually liking the way they're playing with the otherworldly elements thus far, upping the eerie factor, but not dominating the whole story.

gonna put the rest of this under the cut bc i'm gonna ramble on a whole lot, bud, hold on tight!!

going off of the above, i appreciate that the more mundane dangers of being stranded in the wilderness are still ever-present and frankly crucial to the narrative. i've seen a lot of mixed reactions to jackie's death. tbh i thought it was well written. and even foreshadowed. i'm paraphrasing here bc i don't remember the line verbatim, but before she took off on her expedition, taissa pointed out that the stakes were becoming so dire, "freezing to death will feel like falling asleep." that's exactly what happened to jackie. she fell asleep and froze to death. it's heartbreaking. it's realistic. shauna screaming and desperately shaking her to no avail gutted me, oof. i can defo understand where some ppl are disappointed that jackie is dead at all, and even more disappointed bc it was such a nondescript kind of death and jackie is a major character. jackie is in the promotional art with a bloody nose and the reflection of the antler queen in her eye. it feels dynamic!!

...and her death was very much not dynamic. she got snarky with her teammates, it turned into a bigger fight with her best friend, and then she left the cabin to her own detriment. she was mad at them, and they were mad at her, and a tragic accident happened bc of plain ol' teenage stubbornness and bc no one predicted the weather. well, lottie could've predicted the weather, i suppose, but. mm...we can circle back to lottie.

one question i do have abt jackie's death tho, is, uh, what abt nat and travis?? like, how long was jackie out there by the time they came back?? did they notice something was wrong?

bc they did come back. when shauna rushes out to find jackie frozen and everyone followed, nat and travis are there in the background. u see natalie standing behind some other girls and then travis is off to the far left. so they *did* come back at some point. so i wonder abt that, if they just ignored her, or if there was a conversation of some kind, how cold was it when they returned, etc.

i knew her dream was a dream as soon as shauna apologized. errything shauna said to jackie in her dream, even outside, before it got weird, sounded like things jackie would want shauna to say to her rather than how shauna actually felt. on that note, jackie's dream did break my heart. she could be an asshole and she wasn't always a good friend to shauna, but she was a human teenage girl who just wanted to be wrapped up in warmth and told she was loved. so that hurt and was also creepy af?? uh, that shadowy dude?? was that dead cabin guy??

that had to be dead cabin guy, right? we're seen him in the intro.

oh, okay, that brings me to more thoughts abt the episode and speculation abt s2. so i am still leaning toward believing there are other ppl out there. the symbol existed before the girls arrived. one of the guys who kidnapped nat at the end (which, btw, WTAF) was wearing it. and we never found javi!

i think javi might've found the other forest cult ppl. nat and travis seemingly didn't find him. they didn't find a body either. shauna told him to run, maybe he ran off into the cult's territory. and i'm thinking dead cabin guy must've been part of the cult. the symbols were in his attic and it's unusual that three of his fingers were cut off.

so abt the cult stuff, okay, uh, yeah, this episode had more of that. it looks like lottie is rly becoming fully realized on her path to prophet-hood or smth. i kind of love it and yet it also feels kind of lacking??

i hate to say it, but i want to love it more than i do. i stili just feel like we haven't had enough focus on lottie for this to have the impact that it should? not that it has no impact at all, i mean, i am engrossed, i am, and i rly enjoyed the brief subplot between her and laura lee while we had it. i wish we had more of it, tbh, but yk, i might be being a little too harsh. after all, she hasn't officially donned the antler queen getup yet. we have all winter to get there, plenty of time to focus on lottie come s2. we're just beginning when it comes to the ceremonial aspects of all this and the end scene seems to imply that lottie still holds a lot of power.

i think the finale subtly outlined where we can expect alliances will fall. van and misty are lottie's first followers. travis was confirmed by nat awhile ago not to believe "in that shit," and sadly, natalie seems loyal enough to ally with him, even tho he's. travis. taissa and shauna have been getting closer all throughout the season, whatever side of it they end up on, my guess is it's going to be together...

idk where i see tai and shauna ending up when it comes to cult stuff. shauna *was* going to kill travis, but she was also high off her ass (and who doesn't want to kill travis?? don't we all want to kill travis??). tai begins the show vehemently opposed to simply the suggestion of the supernatural, but we see her coming around a lil for van's sake. and then it appears she sacrificed the family dog in 2021, so...okay, let's talk abt that, that was freaky!!

i had supposed tai might've killed biscuit, but i did not expect it to be like that. i thought she might've done it while sleepwalking, or if she mistook him for a wolf while dissociating. but he was decapitated and the forest symbol was painted in his blood. poor simone, my chest started tightening the moment she went downstairs.

so now i have a lot of questions abt tai, uhhh...lordy. i'm assuming it was tai who killed biscuit, anyway. i mean, in all fairness, it could've been someone else. other cult members broke into natalie's hotel and kidnapped her, so they could've been the ones to sacrifice biscuit. but rn it appears that it was tai and i want to think she didn't do it on purpose (again with the sleepwalking/dissociation) BUT idk how accidentally u can ceremonially enshrine ur dog's decapitated head, yk?? plus the cut to her triumphant smile after winning the election. that was a sexy smile, too, god, even if it was on purpose, i totally forgive her.

on that note, i wish we could've seen more of shauna dismembering adam's corpse bc that was also hot. i would've loved to see her actually pulling his guts out, i'm v disappointed we weren't treated to that imagery. the whole scene of our core four getting down to business in adam's apartment was pretty cool tho. i love that the first time we see them all reunited in 2021 is to dispose of a corpse. would enjoy seeing more tai/misty interactions since they're such opposites. and more shauna/nat ones too. i appreciated shauna trying to comfort nat (even while dismembering a body) abt travis, even tho i believe she's wrong.

i don't think travis killed himself. i do think he was murdered. it would be rather uh...odd, at the least to commit suicide at ur workplace by hanging urself via construction vehicle. and odd things happen, okay, yeah. but that combined with the candles being burned around him, the fact that someone emptied his bank account out, and that natalie was literally kidnapped after asking her friend to dig into it rly makes me think he was murdered.

so anyway, i'm rly worried abt natalie!! but also intrigued. wtaf is lottie up to these days??

uh, okay, i'm sorry i'm rambling on and on but i do have a lot of thoughts abt the finale, it's just a matter of organizing them. and it was a jam-packed finale. there's a lot to touch on here...

the reunion, okay, the reunion. errybody was smoking hot. allie grated on my nerves, jfc. shauna and randy's confrontation was...weirdly funny? we know shauna's serious abt the death threats. randy's so stupid he needed clarification that she was even angry, oof. poor dude. one too many concussions, maybe??

i was slightly disappointed no other survivors were at the reunion. i strongly believe there are more survivors out there. given what happened to travis and what happens to natalie at the end tho, i realize they might be off the grid and hiding out not just to avoid the press or preserve their privacy for their personal comfort, but uh...to keep themselves safe. safe from lottie???

i'm leaning that way. the ending seems to imply that lottie is (still) in a position of leadership and potentially dangerous. also, whatever clan nat and travis end up in, it's most likely going to be as a package deal and not going to be with lottie. travis has almost certainly been murdered and natalie was just kidnapped. i'm thinking the folks who weren't in lottie's clan/cult might be at higher risk here. why, or why still since it's been 25 yrs, i am mystified. but ig that's a mystery for s2.

so misty is our only confirmed present survivor who was in lottie's clan/cult and i'm wondering why/how she ever defected. bc it seems they are no longer in contact come 2021. wtf has misty been doing all this time tho??

i rly don't think jessica roberts is the first person misty has killed post-wilderness. she was so at ease cleaning up adam's body, she was even making jokes abt it. her basement was all set up like a mini apartment. the multiple locks on the door. she doesn't need the wheelchair in her basement, so what is she using it for??

(it terrifies me that this woman is allowed around the elderly. i do not like it, i want it to stop. 😬)

even tho we never got to know jessica particularly well (that's not even her real name) i was kinda sad to see her go? i thought she was an interesting character. i'm left wondering what exactly it was that ensured her death, at which point misty decided she wasn't going to let her live...her face when funny when jessica brought up the presumed cannibalizing in ep9. i think it might've been that...but why??

okay, okay so. i know that sunnflower is a rly popular OMORI pairing, and don't get me wrong, i like it, too,,,, HOWEVER. here is a post-good ending headcanon that will smash all of ur sunnflower dreams into a million bits and pieces <3

Sunny and Basil *cannot* see each other

i have been up for 24 hours and don't know if anything i'm about to say will make sense, so bear with me. it's not uncommon for people who shared trauma to have intense reactions that manifest in their relationships with each other. some people become hyper-attached to each other after the traumatic event, while some people are the exact opposite, and if these people come into contact with each other, it can be extremely detrimental to their mental healths. the latter is how i see basil and sunny (especially basil).

throughout the game, a lot of their interactions come off as stiff and awkward not only because they haven't spoken in years, but also because basil is too emotionally dysregulated to keep up a conversation. he's stuttering, he's sweating--WE ALL SAW HIM. he is an anxious. wreck, and this anxiety directly stems from mari's death and sunny's presence. especially after kel breaks the news that sunny's moving away, we can see that any major changes sunny makes are going to heavily affect basil on a psychological level. this isn't just a problem with basil clinging to the last bit of familiarity in his life, but it would also affect sunny's personal growth if these patterns were to be perpetuated in any future relationship between the two, platonic or romantic. imagine trying to move on from the most traumatic experience of your life, and an old friend you haven't talked to in years, begs you to stay. it isn't healthy for either of them.

FURTHERMORE, in regards to the secret true ending with the special SunnFlower cutscene, i think that it's okay to say that these two are beginning the healing process and are working towards finding peace in their lives separately. this ending doesn't imply really anything other than a mutual understanding that everything they'd been holding onto for years had finally been released, and that they were now beginning their journey of recovery.

i don't think they talk for a long time after the good ending--i don't think they really want to. for sunny, basil is a painful reminder of not only the death of his sister, but also the incident that landed him in the hospital. you don't just automatically make amends with the person that gouged your eye out during a psychotic episode. i think that sunny understands and forgives, but i do not think he feels safe.

for basil, on the other hand, sunny is a reminder of the terrible thing he did to mari's body and also his abandonment issues he got from his absent parents. in my opinion, being the person who strung up your best friend's dead sister into a tree to make it look like a su*cide is worse than being the one who pushed her down the stairs. you can push someone on accident, but you definitely can't hang someone on accident. i imagine there's a lot of guilt in there mixed with a whole lot of other childhood trauma from his neglectful parents that is a cocktail for mental instability. (also would like to point out that basil having the idea to hang her up in the first place is an early sign of extreme mental illness,, that isn't normal and also hints at some kind of emotional codependency or unhealthy attachment he has to sunny.) the fact that basil was pushed so far that he had a psychotic episode which resulting in him stabbing his friend--which by the way was triggered by sunny's mere presence, not an immediate physical threat of any kind--is so telling of his mental state, and i honestly believe that best thing for him would be hospitalization. for a while. if he cannot be safe to himself and others, then he needs to begin his recovery in a rehabilitation center, and who knows when it would be safe for him to be discharged.

to put that last bit in perspective, i've been hospitalized before due to a pretty half ass attempt that i didn't follow through with because i was drunk out of my mind and that landed me five days. five days, and i didn't even do anything, like no physical harm came to me. also, during my time there, i was really adamant about how i was feeling better and said i had reduced SI which is also how i got out of there in that small amount of time. i have no idea how much time someone like basil would have to spend in an institution, but it would probably be more than a few weeks.

if seeing sunny was the final trigger that led up to basil's psychotic episode, then it is completely possible that seeing sunny would only bring up similar dysregulation problems in the future, even after he's well on his way to full recovery.

SO TL;DR

1. basil stakes his emotions too heavily on sunny,

2. for sunny, basil reminds him of his sister's death and incident that brought him to the hospital, leading him to feel unsafe around basil,

3. for basil, sunny reminds him of the guilt in shame of what he did to mari's body (which i think we can all universally agree is much worse than accidentally pushing her down the stairs),

4. sunny's presence pushed basil to a point where he was not safe to himself or others in an extreme manner that borders homicidal,

5. BASICALLY WHAT IM SAYING IS THAT THEY TRIGGER EACH OTHER AND WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO HANDLE HANGING OUT FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME BC OF THE PTSD AND POSSIBLE PSYCHOSIS

Oh, my dear, my heart is swelling with love for those two right now. I just watched the show through from 12x19-15x13 and I swear, that moment they share in 15x12, clinking those glasses and sharing all those smiles was like balm. It’s not even five minutes of screen time, and still it was like, okay, yes, good, thank you for the room to breathe. :D

It seems to be that Cas hearing Dean’s prayer has ushered in some much earned peace between them. They’re shown to be on the same page and taking each other’s side unquestionably. Dean trusting Cas’ judgment regarding Jack without pause. And that’s a good word for it: there’s trust between them, mutual respect, understanding. It’s so lovely, isn’t it?

So, there’s this line that’s sort of stuck with me. Actually, there are two things that have stuck with me (apart from all the gorgeous symbology baked into every episode) and it’s that the word “complete” has been mentioned twice.

Once in reference to Mary in Heaven, and once by Amara in reference to God.

Then we have a line that’s recurred twice: I had to die to get what I want.

The fact that its spoken verbatim twice made my antennas perk up a bit. It may mean nothing, as some things in this narrative sometimes do mean nothing, but it’s still interesting to take these things into account: that we’re searching for completion and that sometimes, in order to get what you want, you have to die.

So. Will Cas die?

I don’t think so. I don’t think so for many reasons that I’ve laid out here (I just posted this) (it was like you read my mind that this was coming today), but foremost because I cannot see how him dying does anything for his character arc, or for his joint journey with Dean.

You know, dark!Kaia (Kaia’s Shadow) going back to the Bad Place (Kaia’s unconscious) and accepting the ending waiting there, releasing our!Kaia back to the world where she belongs, makes me think, more than ever, that the integration of the main character’s Shadows are a necessity. 

The Empty, way I see it, is representative of Cas’ Shadow, his unconscious, all the repressed and suppressed emotions of guilt, shame and doubt that has kept his self-worth down until Jack came on the scene. 

And this is just my reading of this situation, but I’m not sure I can see Cas defeating the Empty in the Empty, if you know what I mean? The last time Cas intruded, the Empty made him suffer greatly. I don’t think Cas holds any sway there, nor should he. 

To me, the weapon our conscious has against our unconscious ruling our decisions, is our ability to grow aware of our own impulses, our own thought patterns, and making choices to break away from them.

I think Cas can only beat the Empty through making a choice and, well, for a long time I’ve felt that choice should be to become human, because by making a final choice of who he is and who he wants to be, he brings himself into awareness, integrating his Shadow in the process, and narratively nullifying the Empty’s hold on him, since humans don’t go to the Empty when they die: they go to Heaven. 

But that’s wishing and hoping and speculation, of course.

Here’s where the Destiel question comes in though.

Do I believe they’ll make it canon?

Personally, I can’t think of anything more a part of our story than the love story between those two, but I know what you mean. You mean a representative, tangible, clear, statement type of making it canon. Textualising it, so that there’s no room for doubt whatsoever. No more arguments, no more queer baiting complaints, just Destiel in plain sight. Undeniable. 

I do and I don’t.

Watching these last few seasons through again made me realise what a different feel to them this last season has, because the emotional stakes for Dean and Cas have everything to do with what they mean to each other. Yeah?

Dean taking his anger out on Cas and it pushing Cas into a turning point where he chose to leave, to move on, which was a moment of clear independence a statement of his sense of self-worth, and it in turn pushing Dean into a turning point where he faced a side to himself that he’s needed to name since forever, admitting to not having any control of himself, which is something he has to acknowledge if he’s to move into trusting himself fully, all of this has been gosh darn breathtaking to get to witness.

And having them land back in this ease, where they work together seamlessly as a team, being kept together more than not, the framing of them, all of this makes me feel like they could give us canon Destiel. I’m not going to say they absolutely won’t. 

I believe the writers want it. I believe the actors want it. But, again, that’s just what I take from the narrative itself, because the subtext is stronger than ever this final season. 

Especially with Sam and Eileen being reunited.

Because it’s been that clear parallel you mentioned, but it’s been that clear parallel to those of us who see it. The echoes of the Saileen romance that trace through the Destiel progression won’t be as resounding to those that don’t.

And because of that, at this point, I also feel quite reserved with my belief that Destiel could become canon. Because there’s so much, but there’s also nothing. There’s so much for us to enjoy, there’s so much evidence they keep throwing at us that the writers support this reading of their story, but still, there’s nothing, really, to let on that they’re building towards these two men, at some point, declaring their love for each other.

There has been zero textual foreshadowing of that.

There have been throw away moments, like the cop flirting with Dean, for example, but he frowned at that, and then got sincerely flirted with by a woman, so that deescalated that very quickly. 

There was Dean at first rejecting Garth’s compliment of “You smell SO good”, becoming uncomfortable, to then, by the end of the ep, tell Garth he didn’t smell half-bad either.

And there was that amazing moment with Cas calling out Sam being “sexually intimate” with Ruby and Dean repeating the words as if he can’t believe Cas even knows how to pronounce them.

So, there’s... you know, stuff?

But it’s not foreshadowing if it can be overlooked by the wider audience.

That said.

This show isn’t about this love story of ours. The fact that it’s so downplayed could mean that what we’ll get is something textual, but extremely subtle. I mean, for me, lingering eye-contact and a shared smile in a context that makes us understand they’re choosing each other would be enough.

If, by canon, you mean do I think we’ll get them kissing, then the answer is I want to believe that we might get that, because they could build towards that on the foundation of ease and trust that they’ve put down over the last few episodes and they could build it effectively, but I just don’t know if the studio (who own the characters) is onboard. 

My hope is that they are, because the topic of healthy representation is so hot right now, and the question of the longevity of Supernatural to the younger generations (you know, you young ones who are proving exceedingly more open-minded and looking for something beyond the superficial brothers-hunting-monsters aspect of the show) would bank on the show opening itself up to the possibilities of solid representation already seeded throughout its run.

But Dean has flirted with more women than men this season. You know? I mean, he hasn’t flirted with any men. So. 

Look, I’m not going to say I don’t think we’ll get it, because I don’t know. 

I watched S15 yesterday and finished it today and suddenly I feel this wave of hope that it actually might happen, because they’ve already changed how Dean and Cas interact, they’ve given them so many scenes with just the two of them, and we have Sam clearly meant to end up with Eileen, and doesn’t Dean and Cas deserve that same happiness? That same sense of completion? That internal peace of loving unconditionally and being loved in return?

Sam and Eileen could be foreshadowing. These writers are subtle and they could be gleefully rubbing their hands together at the thought of springing textual Destiel on the GA, you know? The green light from the studio might make them diabolical. *sadism* And I love that thought.

Because that’s been the point of the love story for me, this slow, slow build to the moment when Dean and Cas have reached a point in their progression when what they’ll have together is a healthy, balanced, loving relationship because they’ve both let go of the past and are looking to the future.

But I won’t expect textual Destiel. If we do get it, I’m going to treasure it as a big cherry on top of an already perfectly inviting and exquisite pie.

What I do believe, more than ever, that we’re getting, though, is closure. Even if it’s only at the subtextual level, I believe that those of us who read the subtext will have Destiel verified beyond a shadow of a doubt. And yes, I will be quite surprised and disappointed if we don’t get that. Because of how these first 13 episodes have been shaped and how strong the subtext is in them.

I believe we’ll end on a hopeful note.

And wouldn’t that just be gratifyingly phenomenal?

(it really would) (honestly I just need to know that they are happy and alive and together and well and finding peace and carrying on) (you know?) (thank you and amen) :)

ok so as i’ve mentioned oscar was weirdly mentally healthy. like absolute neurotypical child with good coping mechanisms and normal stress levels. and artie was all chuffed and proud of him and then fred came along and was very different from oscar and that drove these small wedges between them where artie was really just balking at having a kid who he couldn’t completely understand after having a kid that he really understood the first time. (this is going to turn into a discussion of artie and freds relationship I know it)

i think as a teen freds mental health kind of yo-yoed all over the place... and don’t get me wrong he was an overwhelmingly happy, friendly, open kid but he wasn’t that 24/7. for one thing he was just emotional and intuitive and that was what really spooked artie most of the time. fred would have these big fears and existential dreads that oscar never had - he would go to protests and raise a big stink about the environment and even as a little boy have these worries and questions about the world and things that were bigger than him in a way oscar just didn't have. and a lot of these questions were about himself - his sexuality, his gender/gender presentation, and artie just wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole he just turned the other cheek because that stuff rly scared him. 

but also when fred was low he was LOW. he would get depressed in a way oscar wouldn't. and he could stake his whole heart on something and when it didn’t work out it would feel like a personal failure. oscar and artie could just brush stuff off and rationalize it but fred would mope and cry. a lot of this scared artie and he started telling fred he was acting like a girl and to stop it, and kind of what he was really saying was that fred was too emotional and sensitive. fred also had body image issues (I wanna talk about yall know what so bad but I will refrain) that artie just couldn't understand whatsoever and he got told to stop acting like a girl over that too. 

artie just wanted fred to pull himself up by the bootstraps and hard work the pain away like he always did and they clashed a lot over that. fred was obviously never diagnosed with anything but I think he was dealing with some depression even then and definitely addiction if we indulge that plotline and just a lot of stuff was kind of rearing its head in cycles and he’d go from too disciplined and kind of euphoric to normal and thriving to messy and upset and it was kind of this cycle where nothing was super bad but he was definitely not going through the chill easy time oscar had. 

anyway then I think after arties death ironically fred was in more pain than he’d ever been in but he did go through the whole bootstraps thing where he just flung himself into working to support his mom. and he was HELLA depressed (this is also after fp left for the army........ and oscar died too if we’re using my timeline....) don't get me wrong. everything was gray and meaningless but he just kind of leaned into his ability to discipline himself and got through it as best he could as much as it hurt. 

but that’s not sustainable forever and I think there were some REALLY dark years during that period where he was more depressed than he knew was possible and had to start to come to terms with the fact that this was something that was a part of him. i think maybe around the time he and mary were coming back together.... it had been 4 years or so since fp left and everyone else had left him or moved on with their lives but when he saw mary he felt this love and happiness that was missing most of the time... but he definitely had a breakdown or two in front of her telling her if they got married this was what she was getting and he wasn't the same person he was in high school he didn't even know that person anymore.... 

and then things got better after archie but he also never dealt with those years properly or any of the shit he was still feeling about his relationship with his dad and all the complicated feelings that arose out of that and he just kinda went back to working and working and living the life his dad carved out for him ironically and he never had a choice abt building houses and stuff... and I kinda cling to that scene from season one as showing us that fred rly is dealing with depression as an adult and he deserved to have it acknowledged 😤😭

anyway those are my many thoughts I'm sorry if they don't make sense and are 99% headcanon that's just what u get here

Jodie Whittaker and demographic realism

So I want to make clear that I have no problems whatsoever with Jodie Whittaker’s performance - the character seamlessly kept walking across the screen, she has great energy, love the steampunk goggles. 

Honestly I’ve always believed that giving existing characters a demographic change is not really as revolutionary or helpful as ppl think; New characters and stories (esp. told by writers of those samedemographics) solve the problem much better. Keeping specificity is often better than losing it, and the character still has a background (from an “advanced” civilization that used to do dirty deeds and is still kind of uppity attitudes, a character who’s decided to be against that attitude but still needs to be knocked own from the occasional uppity moment; It makes sense for them to look like a british dude, and they have the freedom to go wherever problems like sexism and racism don’t exist so... ), and will be linked to its origin.  But at worst something that will look dated in a few years like the 80s outfits, the show’s done dated and crowdpleasing before; There’s no hard reason not to do it and I expected no quality dip. 

It certainly worked as as attention grab, the premiere drew a lot of attention but that only lasted as long as it took for the reviews to go sour. But one of the main good things its proponents said could come of it was to help the lack of female anti heroes. So far she really didn’t get to anti hero much; It’s not Whittaker, it’s the scripts. 

I want to make this clear: Varied demograpics are good; 

This is why I kind of hate the term “diversity” is one of those vague euphemisms if you mean “demographic representation”, “social equity” or “demographic realism” just say that. 

In a way this is a good thing, it used to be only the best boldest writers who could get away, noadays it has become acceptable to have varied casts. And that’s how it should be artshouldn’t have to have to pass some arbitrary quality standard to simply reflect reality. But as the rebootverse and star trek discovery should’ve proved realistic demographics can’t replace good writing. Sometimes lack of realistic demographis is associated with bad writing because both come from play-it-safe more-of-the-same consummerism focussed sameyness, often someone who goes against the formulas has a solid vision which makes them good, and focussing on ignored topics and perspectives can yield new ideas (consider stuff like Wonder Woman, Get Out, Black Panther... which were just good, novel movies) but you could have a super interesting memorable story where everyone is a medieval european monk, but the characters are differentiated by personality, attitude, beliefs, or something where the cast ticks all sort of all demographic boxes but the characters are 1D and the story trite and predictable

On the one hand you get those gamergate adjacent fanboys who make “diversity” and “good writing” out to be enimical opposites and then you have the purists/antis who treat any critique of writing to be founded in having something against realistic demographics. You need both! 

Series 11

There were good things about it: An attempt at leastto do more of your classic thought provoking space operas or going back to the shows’ pulp fiction roots, covering some historic periods/topics other than the classic historical fiction tropes (they got a pakistani writer, had Yaz and Ryan discuss social topics among themselves etc.), the emotional story centered around this family coping with a loss, having Ryan sort of be the “main” companion and the one the rest of the team is protective of

But overall the reason I didn’t rush to watch s12 as soon as it came out is that it was a bit... bland. The team interacted mostly with each other; The Doctor had more charge with one shot characters like King James or the Solitract than she really did with the companions. Graham was such a missed opportunity. Remember how everyone loved the dynamic with Wilfred? No attempt to strike a bond over how they’re the older party members, or the professional xenophile trying to nudge the bilbo baggins like reluctant hero? We’re told the Doctor really likes Yaz, and I believe it cause she always liked people like that, but are we shown?

For all that Moffat and RTD were very different writers with different strenghts and weaknesses, both were very character-driven writers, and that was really missing here a bit. 

Some ppl said they didn’t give Yaz enough screentime or personality - but the thing is, they did try. They just failed. They let her make little remarks here and there about her homelife, they just never really assembled into a whole beyond buzzwords and inspirational platitudes and the Standard Companion Traits. I didn’t get a read on what she’s about or who she’s like until the pakisan episode where she unlike Barbara, Donna etc. immediately accepted that the past can’t be changed. Ah, I finally thought, she’s a very responsible dutiful person.

Everything lacks edges and defining moments. 

So far, I didn’t sweat it. I though, ok, not everything can be the high-concept character driven spec fic epic type of story that is my personal favorite. Every time there was some addition to the mythos in any way someone cried ruined forever. When the time lords first appeared. When the time war was introduced. 

The classics too were lower on the character driven ness; Still good pulp fiction content. (imho the character concepts themselves were often pretty good, just not used to the fullest and some of the actresses were treated crappy backstage)

I thought “okey, it wouldn’t be good to break with the tradition of making the sussequent incarnations contrasting”

I did think that there was much liberty with the additions which the others did do only towards the end when it feltmore earned, but, the addition of say, sisters, isn’t too disruptive

Series 12 and the Timeless Child Nonsense

The frustrating thing about this is that it COULD have been good. 

The Master teaming up with the cybermen to try and take over Gallifrey is precisely the sort of story the classics would’ve done. 

“Your society is founded on a shady secret and exploitation of the innocent” is a good plot twist especially in these times. The Master finding that secret and using it to his advantage - also very him. 

Imagine what it could have been like if it had been approached from the perspective of someone who, for all that they were a rebel, still sort of profited from being part of that society, someone who wants to take responsibility for that past and would maybe have to make some tough choice to let the exploitation victim go because it’s right even if it has cosequences for themselves and their civilization. 

but then you ruin that by immediately taking the protagonist out of that society. They and they alone are the victim. 

like this plot could have been good except for the twist that the Doctor and the timeless child are the same. 

Not connecting it to existing lore about the earlier war game days, everything with Omega and Rassilon, that bit about the Time Lord becoming what they were through exposure to the untempered schism... that might be forgiven. Even if it does stretch the suspension of disbelief that every single piece of sci fi scanning equipment in the show didn’t pick anything up; Not to mention that it destroys the stake on every heroic sacrifice or death prophecy plot, every time a companion or oneshot character took the bullet, the whole “out of regens” plot...

This is not me being mad about things being added or changed, but this being done in such a way that undermines the philosophy, the whole flavor... 

Yes, the MC is mysterious, the 7th Doctor arcs did a lot with this etc. but doesn’t spelling something out this clear not deplete rather than add to that? It#s a definite answer even if the final origin isn’t clear. 

But they’re so much else.

The trickster hero accomplishing great deeds with planning, guile, improvisation and duct tape, the implicit value that ressourcefulness trumps raw power. 

The rebel, different because they chose to be or made themselves to be such through their adventures, sticking to their own values in a close-minded society - who embodies & encourages thinking for yourself in every situation and universal plot, who battles enemies like the Daleks and Cybermen that represent comformity

Yeah they have many names yeah they take out gods... but all this was the result of their actions & path in pursuit of knowledge, and also, as Moffat once stated, the funny part is that behind all the fearsome reputation is wit and duct tape. 

The fish in a small pond who started out a misfit, failed their tardis driving exam... etc. and often made a point that they didn’t want immortality or endless godlike power. That’s meaningless if they had it to begin with. 

The explorer who wanted to see more than their corner of the world. 

The ANTI HERO that’s made alltogether too tragic here, too absolved from their uppity civilization

All that is wiped away if they were this special creature to begin with.

Where WAS the philosophy, rly? The big humanist speeches that made me love the show. 

Going Forward

So I think - I HOPE - that this in particular will be treated like the “half human” thing from the TV movie or the now josses additional origin stories from the audios, or be handwaved under the “you cant get it wrong cause everything is in flux” carpet

It’s the Master effing with her to pay her back for the half broken chameleon arch thing. 

It’s possible the Child actually existed, long dead or trapped somewhere - again, dirty mystery at the bottom of a stck-up society is a good twist. but this shouldn’t be more than another maybe in the multiple choice past not a definite answer. 

Also, i hate this line of thought but I can’t stave it off: Why is is now that the MC looks female that we get this vulnerable, passively victimized tomato surprise rather than something with an ugly but definite choice in it. 

I will probably ignore it - parts of me resents this cause “your civilization is based on a lie” could be such a good plot twist (then again the existing twists to that end from the classics and End of Time do enough rly) but if i have to choose between that and the basic meaning of the character....

ppl have been asking me my opinions on space channel 5 vr... and i guess since i bought a vr headset off craigslist just so i could play it and speedrun it before work the day it came out... i should talk abt it now... i dont rly think i’ll be able to separate it into ‘good’ and ‘bad’ things i think i’m just going to do a rambly stream of consciousness bc i have a headache... but i DO have good things to say abt this game... so st.... sta stay t tune  d

right off the bat, the thing i appreciate most abt this game- i like that space channel 5 vr doesnt have cash grab vibes. i Do genuinely believe that they Wanted to make this game For the people who are still obsessed with it, and that they ultimately did what they set out to do when they intended to scale certain aspects of the series up conceptually to match the way the fandom perceives it nowadays. but like i’ve said before... i’m not going to Disagree with the very common conclusion that it Needed to be longer, or at Least more intricate plot-wise. one of my fun and fresh excuses for sc5vr being as short as it is is because you arent really supposed to be playing vr games for too long anyways, its really disorienting and kinda painful, but even that doesn’t account for why so much of the game that we got is a rehash of old settings, concepts, songs, and characters. [i dont even have a problem with reusing old songs, i just think the ones they chose ended up being misleading]

for example i think it makes sense that the first report is a remake of the first games first report on the surface, it’s meant to take you back to the way the first game felt and give you an idea of what it means that the games classic scenery can be rendered in actual high quality detail now [same with the recurrence of events like encountering the space pirates in the asteroid belt/the last battle against a villain being singing to it about what it’s done wrong], but i really thought, like, report 1 was going to end up being a simulated scenario for the benefit of lou and kee’s training... which i dont think ended up being the case??? i think they really did write ‘ok here you are in the first game’s setting again, fighting the old enemies again, because... :^) ok have fun playing report 2!’

and then whats report 2... you fight another old boss from the first game... but theres Still no clear villain or motivation for anything thats happening... and there wont be until like... basically the end of the game...

like, glitter is a really cute character, but its kind of underwhelming that shes just a random citizen who was kidnapped by an entity that we NEVER LEARN ANYTHING ABOUT... like part 1 was extremely notable for being about corporate greed and corruption, part 2 honestly wasnt that political in comparison but at least made you do a think wrt purge’s motivation and his methods, and this game just has a plot device that feels like it’ll do smth but then ends up not doing anything beyond what we already learned about it from the information on its character bio before the game was out. if it turns out that cell x is actually relevant again in a future entry in the franchise and they do have a more developed concept for what cell x Is in mind, i’ll do an entire backflip, but for now its just chalked up to being the result of More Space Hijinks that dont need to be explained

ESPECIALLY WITH ALL OF THE ALLUSIONS TO CELL X BEING AN ENTITY THAT FEEDS OFF OF DANCE ENERGY... it had me thinking that there would have to be some New Method of fighting it off that didn’t just lend it more power in the process, but nah apparently just tacking on the disclaimer ‘*this dance energy is not for glitter’ is enough to turn it from smth it can consume for power into big attacks you can use to kill it... like honestly it sounds like im asking for a lot from a game that has Never made too much sense, but considering that in part 2 they could add details like ‘oh didnt you know purge can open pocket dimensions? ulala is capable of manifesting tangible dance energy and the only other person who can do that is purge???’, its not like they havent come up with weird new shit for dance energy to do within the plot before. they just didnt do it in this game fsr

like did anyone else think that cell x/glitter was going to be the result of tossing purge out into deep space and him encountering the sc5 universe’s equivalent of an eldritch alien creature, smth more bestial than morolians?? even if purge wasnt part of it, when you say ‘uh oh, this guy Eats this society’s only source of energy!!!’ i expect the stakes to get HIGH, and i want the ramifications of it to be kinda STARTLING, because blank wanted money and purge wanted to ritualistically end the world but something this near to an ecological disaster that would force an entire paradigm shift hasn’t occurred yet in the series?? its totally new!!! there’s a lot they could do with this but OH DONT WORRY ABOUT IT EVERYONE ulala knows how to make dance energy kill cell x instead of feed it she’s got this we’re good no need to investigate more into all that

i can’t explain why the game is like this. and i dont expect grounding to address it in any meaningful way either. i’m sure they’re Aware of these complaints by now- the game reviewing community has Not been kind to sc5vr specifically due to all of these shortcomings [i didnt even touch on the issues with motion sensing and how many of the games mechanics were removed in favor of smth presumably easier to program yet much less satisfying, like Secret Moves just being mini quicktime events and Turning Your Ratings Into Stars just being replaced with the standard Three Strikes You’re Out method of scoring], but the pr team still seems very enthusiastic abt the game and is still promising dlc and potentially even more games in the series after this one- heres hoping that they’ll at least take these grievances to heart and consider making the experience not only more accessible [aka it will... go back to being a rhythm game with controller input.... and not... an exclusive vr experience...], but also as immersive and detailed as the old games, with less reused plot beats. i can let some of it off the hook in this game simply because i’m aware that it began its life as a tech demo that was only supposed to be that initial first report from the first game But Happening All Around You!, but i Really dont think they could get away with doing this little to expand upon the groundwork set by the first two games again. not with the way people remember part 2 being such a vast upgrade from part 1... the bar had been set so high that this just felt like a huge backslide into something even sillier and harder to take seriously than part 1 before we had any idea what kind of staying power the franchise would have as a hallmark of sega’s quirky antics. like... this game is what i think space channel 5 looks like to people who don’t understand the appeal of the first two games. and that scares me

but i guess for the most part, aside from wishing they had done more to revitalize the setting and the lore of the sc5 universe itself, im kind of glad it didnt do a lot to change the existing storylines the characters have kinda forged for themselves- here i was stressing out that they would pull out some plot development that would utterly and drastically change the way we talked abt the series for the rest of time, but so little happened and so little was added to the bank of sc5 lore that we can kind of all just carry on as usual and keep having the same headcanons we always had.

BUT!!! there ARE a lot of cute little details here and there that make the experience feel wholesome and like i said not an utter cashgrab- like so many of the character profiles referencing previous games [all of the references to npcs in this game being relatives of the npcs of the last games made me lose it] and how often ulala changes her expressions up and looks right at you and talks to you. the new music they wrote for the game also all slaps and everyones redesigns [if they got a redesign... rip pudding] are stunning

one of the most important things they did in this game was give a nice sort of Update to every character.... for example explaining that ulala isn’t a rookie reporter any more like she was in the first 2 games, that she’s moved up to being in charge of training new channel 5 reporters, and that while pudding is still somewhat stuck on her rivalry with ulala her career isn’t stagnant either, she was just cast in a romcom series as the lead... which is really nice considering how in the past she was portrayed as somewhat of a loser with almost no remaining fans left from her idol years

and you knew i was going to bring up jaguar at some point HES ALL OVER THIS GAME AND IT LITERALLY MADE ME FEEL LIKE MY LIFE WAS WORTH POWERING THROUGH THESE LAST FEW YEARS AND ALSO LIKE IM A GENIUS FOR SPENDING SO LONG POSTING EVERY SINGLE DAY ‘NO REALLY, HE’S THE SECONDARY PROTAGONIST OF THE STORY, ITS ABOUT CHANNEL 5 AS A COMPANY AND THEIR IMPACT ON EVERYONE WHO HAS EVER ENCOUNTERED THEM AND THAT INCLUDES JAGUAR AS WELL AS ULALA HES INTEGRAL TO THE PLOT BC SHE WOULDNT BE ALIVE IF IT WEREN’T FOR HIM’ i feel like it’s really incredible how in this game he has genuinely nice energy and doesnt withhold praise from ulala just to be helpful in a mysterious way later and he like HAS FRIENDS now. like consider how he went from disgraced former ch5 employee who got mad every time he saw them, to kidnapped robot henchman kinda humbled by the fact that now the turns tabled and ulala had to rescue Him, and now 3 years later his bio is all about how he has a new tv show thats super popular and he has a new entourage of ladies who he considers his '’’’’’comrades’’’’’’’ within the station he founded??? ok so. im taking this idea from @mika-milano bc their post was very well written, entertaining, and just a rly good idea. so check their post out!:) and thank u for the idea!

and now. a disclaimer.

so im 19 now. i started watching fairy tail when i was 14. this show has been very near and dear to me for a long time. it was one of the first anime i ever watched, and it has my favorite all time ship (gruvia ofc). also i would kind of be lying if i said that most of the reason i still keep up with the manga and show wasnt bc of gruvia. bc it is lol. but. it DEFINITELY has its flaws. and here r some of my opinions on them.

1. so much doesnt make sense

ok listen lol. i think we can all say that its kind of obvious when mashima hasnt thought things through or just pulls things out of his ass out of nowhere. i dont wanna go too in detail about this because if im being honest, there is a lot that i just flat out don't remember. what i can remember is that as the story continued to go on, things seemed to make less and less sense.

2. the best arc is the tower of heaven arc

wow ok. i cant really tell u why i love this arc so much. but i do. im not even a jerza or erza stan (i love them both, but like not my fav pairing or character by any means). but idk. something about this arc was so intriguing, intense, emotional, and just enjoyable to watch. seeing the depths of erza's background and her relationship with her past, jellal, natsu, and the rest of the guild was just amazing. idk why this arc sticks out so much to me, but it really does.

3. lisanna shouldve stayed dead

now this one isnt even bc i hate lisanna or anything. i like lisanna! i even like nali! (not as much as nalu but still). her death had such a great impact on her siblings, natsu, and the rest of the guild and watching them all have to grow past it was incredible (especially for mira and elfman!). and then they just brought her back. not only did they bring her back, but they brought her back for NO REASON! she just became another side character! when she came back to life she had no further impact on ANYTHING! and it made the whole "natsu's childhood love/bestfriend" thing seem so much less important and way more fake.

4. more ppl jus shouldve died overall

with this one im mostly just talking about makarov. but still. waaaay too much death bating. like they died and then magically came back to life. too much of it. felt like nothing was ever really at stake. im saying this but like if juvia had actually stayed dead i would have thrown a FIT lol

5. i wanted more of cana and gildarts

thats it. all i really have to say ab this one. they r cute and i wanted to see more<3

6. juvia is underrated

ok now i am SUPER fucking biased lmao. bc juvia is the BEST character in fairy tail imo. but like come on! she's beautiful, loving, smart, sweet, powerful, funny, badass! shes perfect! and shes waaaay stronger than everyone thinks she is smh. clearly she is the best choice to stan.

7. lucy is overrated

ok look. i like lucy! kind of! idk man shes smart and nice and cute but like. not as powerful as everyone thinks. she's definitely one of the most developed in terms of her strength FOR SURE but still. not very strong. and her character just aint for me:/ sorry!

8. levy should be a lot stronger than she's portrayed

it seems like for some reason since shes small that also means shes weak, but like, that just aint it. solid script magic should be really sick and she should kick ass way more than she does especially for how smart she is but no. mashima always makes her the helpless one:/ rly sad bc i like levy a lot and ik she could be way more badass.

9. the only ship that i rly just flat out hate is gr*ylu.

like nali? i like them! nerza? fine! grayza? also dont like and are second to gr*ylu but i mean i dont have a fiery hatred! lyvia? cool! gratsu? sure! all of them i can get behind in some way ahape or form but i just HATE gr*ylu. idk why i hate them so much but i just really do lol.

10. fairy tail's old animation was way better

while i do think every character got like way more attractive with the new animation, the rest is just bad. not nearly as pretty, crisp, consistent, or colorful. its just blah. sorry sis thats the tea.

Song Analysis

This may actually be somewhat of a tough call? I don’t dislike “Prison” as this song? I mean, it’s the usual calculated Kirkorov/Kontopoulos bullshit of Sovbot service. The “STOMP OUT YOUR ENTIRE PERSONALITY TRAIT OR WE’LL SCHEDULE THE LOBOTOMY” type of label all Dream Team entries possess. Not good by any means, but eh, tolerable, I guess.

At least that would have been my take had there been no disastrous live, but alas: 

Turns out “Prison’ isn’t that tolerable at all, OOPS.🤐  Is “Guantanamo Bay” the prison she sings about because holy fuck that voice is washing over me like waterboard torture. The only thing that should be put in prison here are those fucking vocals. 

Secondly, the acting. I am aware of the indentured servitude Kirkorov enforces upon his singing serfs, but Natalia has this generalist aspergers-like affect to her, which makes any attempt at “emotions” both unintentionally funny and very off-putting.

It’s obvious that Kirkorov instructed Natalia, in pain-staking details I can only imagine, how she should be behaving, and Natalia, not understanding how human emotions work, simulated them in the most gormless possible way. She is SO close to making it work and then just... doesn’t, oops. SOVBOT MALFUCTION SOMEONE CALL PANAYI IS MR PANAYI IN THE HOUSE???.

(another lowkey funny thing for me is how the *same* principle applies to Natalia’s diction as well. DESPRET. CAVERD. SOLLITERRY. she’s *so* close to how those words are pronounced by *actual* native speakers, but comes up just short. oops.)

 It is perhaps that level of incompetence that has somewhat endeared me to Natalia, enough to escape a bottom five position, at least. However, I can’t rly rank her higher because-

You see, I didn’t watch OMPE live (It was a busy February for me, OKAY??) and it honestly did seem pointless at the time: “Hey, here are 19 trash songs and one song by the Dream Team HMMM I WONDER WHO WINS NO CLUE AT ALL”. So that Natalia ended up winning OMPE with an “election-in-North-Korea”-like percentage fo the vote was hardly a surprise. 

However, once I decided to check out some of these entries, I was immediately disappointed that Natalia did win it.  Because we lost out on THESE gems: 

Valentin Uzun & Irina Kovalsky - “Moldovitsa”

NOI FACIN JINJIN CA ADRIANA CELENTANO VIN VIN VIN - wait this isn’t the same song?😲 I love how “Moldovitsa” marries Quintessential Moldovan Anthem “Ca Adriano Celentano” to that “Discover Moldova” song from a few years back and just rolls with it, in all of its unplugged, embarrassing folksy glory. 😍 The PICNIC TABLE <3 The shameless namedropping of that *other* Quintessential Moldovan Anthem “Hora din Moldova”.😍 The even MORE shameless language shifts 😍 The PERSISTENT flute and gadulka riffs that boom over Valetin AND Irina’s voices 24/7s. 😍 It’s FUNsanity.

Sasha Letty - “Summer of love”

There was SO much slutpop being thrown around, so I went with the one I liked best. (Sorry “Dale Dale” fans!) Blonde bimbette in a plastic frill dress slapping her hotshot boytoy bartender around with reckless abandon 😍 

The early nillies electronica soundtrash. 😍 The hilarious pathos of the backing singers (who are as off-key as Sasha herself is 😍), sitting on a pair of bar stools, completely nonplussed by the insanity unspooling in front of them. 😍 I LOVE IT BECAUSE IT’S TWASH -- Oscar the Grouch, me. 

And naturally, there was also the token Robbed Returnee

Pasha Parfeny - “My wine”

Heavens bless Pasha Parfeny for morphing into an unapolegetic stoner cowboy. “My wine” was an endless cacaphonous stream of cackles, from the second Pasha walked in wearing *THAT* jacket (black denim and like, an explosion of dyed leather frills. wat.) (lol this entire *act* is a fashion disaster but Pasha upstages everyone else KING), singing about some girl being “MY WIIIIIIIINE. I MUST DRINK TO STAY ALIVE” (so inappropriate <3), but during the bridge “My wine”’s true Schmetterlinge colours came out and we got this

And we lost all of that to a set of furniture? INEXCUSABLE!!! #FREEMOLDOVAFROMKIRKOROVSPRISON2021

It may be a touch insane to breathe this idea into existence, but I legit believe “Prison” was unsalvageable? Even WITH Kirkorov having his gnarly paws all over it.  I’d submit Natalia’s 2006 appearance as evidence but fortunately no footage of that entry (forgot its name) exists, oh well tought gingersnaps. 

There is some ironic appreciation to be scraped together from the *DISASTROUS* SN performance, but I also  believe that’s *the upper limit* of what we could have gotten out of “Prison”. Anything we would have gotten in Rotterdam would’ve automatically been worse. Natalia can’t sing, she can’t emote properly, was stuck inside the first half in a semi that’s 50% ballad, surely she doesn’t live to tell the tale in 2021, right?

On to 2021, where I assume Moldova will hold another OMPE, which will once again be rigged for whoever lays the most money on the table. Oh well.  

FREAKY! FRIDAY! FACTOR!

There are two FREAKY!FREAKY!FREAKY! things, both of which I have already addressed: first of all, the live of “Prison” was a crime against music worthy of incarceration and secondly “Prison” probably *would* have been Kirkorov’s first ever Eurovision NQ and that combo could have been glorious. Sadly, that’s all I have though, so,

anyway I'm at the end of my impulsive grishaverse binge. The King of Scars duology was fun to read and I enjoyed it.. It was also dumb as hell. But honestly I am here for a good time not a...idk, sensible time. Look I’ve been reading almost nothing but warrior cats for over a decade, clearly my standards are low and I can handle a lot of nonsense and still enjoy the ride

 (but rly I still don’t know why the Darkling returning is a thing at all. He’s just a less intimidating shadow of his former self. He went out in a blaze of glory and however he goes out the second time is going to be underwhelming in comparison. I literally KEPT FORGETTING HE WAS AROUND during Rule of Wolves until his POV chapters came up because everything else felt like a more pressing threat, meanwhile he was just. There. Dicking around. I forgot. the *DARKLING* was around. That’s almost impressive. He just came across as so pathetic compared to the constantly looming threatening force he used to be. There were so many enemies and problems to face with the Fjerdans and everything else, why even add him? I feel like I would have rather the main problem just being fixing the mess he left behind, and have Nikolai figure out some other way to solve the fold and his demon problem, considering Lantsov kings being dumb is part of what enabled the Darkling for so long to begin with. He could fix the remaining scars of their biggest mistake before retiring the Lantsov line. Idk, that would require a rewrite since apparently whatever is happening with the Darkling is going to motivate the next plot, but all that junk about the magic tree just felt. Tacked on rather then woven in? if that makes sense? considering how often I kept forgetting about him I feel like it would have been better to just....Let Nikolai have the focus in fixing this issue, no Darkling meddling needed. Darkling stays dead while we struggle with the ghosts and damage he left behind, and he left A LOT behind, he doesn’t need to literally be here as well. I Do NOT want him to get any sort of redemption arc. he Does Not Need One. Can’t we just let him go I’ve had enough of this dude) 

Next point, I am surprisingly fine with Queen Zoya, I think the duology did a good job setting both of them up for this when I look back on it, although it did catch me by surprise at first. Her turning into a LITERAL DRAGON???

lissen, I Do Not understand the fantasy rules of this world at all sometimes, sometimes it feels like crazy things Just Happen when plot needs it, and its felt that way ever since Shadow and Bone (like last book with the Saint Sand Castle. JESUS CHRIST what was ANY OF THAT I feel like I got transported into a different series I kept putting down the book to whisper-yell ‘what the fuck is happening right now’ to myself, I STILL do not really understand how those people were alive, how their magic worked, or where they were, their explanation didn’t make sense)

 but look. Look, sometimes I also Do Not Care, dragon Zoya was SICK AS HELL. You can be as dumb as you want if you’re also sick and hell while doing it, thems the rules!!!

Neutral on the Nikolai/Zoya relationship. It’s fine, w/e. That’s my stance on most MC romances so shrug.

ANYWAY if I’m honest with myself the Crows are my main true emotional investment in this universe so everything else that happens with other characters is kind of a “yeah ok I guess this is happening now, whatever” one way or another. But my crows. I adore their banter. I loved their appearance, even if it was mostly unnecessary fanservice. I miss them all so much.

I have no interest in investing myself in book fandom culture (it seems like its just...not my scene) I’m vaguely aware that Hanne and Nina’s relationship is controversial. (i’m vaguely aware a lot about this duology is controversial but I don’t know everyone elses reasons as to why, though I have some guesses). And Listen, I can totally 100% sympathize if you are someone who was at all emotionally invested in the helnik ship, even though its been over a year in book time, from the reader perspective Matthias like, just died. And to have Nina immediately thrust into a new meet-cute so quickly while she’s literally standing over his fresh grave?? Yeah I get why that might sting a bit. 

I, however, am not rly a helnik stan, in fact the handling of Matthias and Nina’s relationship was by far my LEAST favorite part of the SoC duology, an awkward frustrating stain on books I otherwise adored so much. Their relationship started off making me wildly uncomfortable (I have a lot of complicated and frustrated feelings about Matthias in general, I think i’ll probably end up making an overly long post complaining about him later on) and though it got a bit better in Crooked Kingdom, it still only reached “I guess I will tolerate this” levels, and then he died before i could finish reconciling with it so. I'm just left frustrated by the whole thing.

For me, her relationship with Hanne felt way more natural and less uncomfortable, yes even if its less ~dramatic~ then almost dying together in the arctic.. (I always felt like she and Matthias were attracted to each other in SPITE of who they are rather then BECAUSE of who they are you know? i just don't love that as a basis for a relationship It’s...ugh look again Matthias is a whole can of worms for me, I can’t get into it right now. It just doesn’t do it for me. I never understood Nina’s attraction to Matthias, so being better then that is a low bar for me. ) I’m not head-over heels with Nina/Hanne or anything, but I like it just fine and I think Hanne is a neat character.

I didn’t think Nina could carry a storyline on her own, but I was surprisingly often more invested in her then Zoya and Nikolai? I was only neutral to her in six of crows, I liked her, but less then the others....... mainly again because she was So Wrapped Up In Matthias Whomst I Do Not Exactly Love that it was hard to appreciate her on her own. I’m glad I got the chance to focus on her and grow to like her as an individual. 

 Maybe her crow status gives her my bias, or honestly maybe I just like high risk spy stuff that felt like it had more immediate danger and stakes every moment to her rather then the more big-but-impersonal concern for a whole country and the exhausting political complications of ruling Ravka, which is what Zoya and Nikolai were often grappling with. I still liked that storyline, but my personal preference is with Nina’s type of stakes (thats probably just another reason why I liked the SoC duology most in the grishaverse)

Which aaaaaaaaaaah, leads me to what is for ME causing the most emotionally charged Issues with the end of this book!!!! It’s probably not the biggest issue objectively, but I am not feeling objective right now, I am feeling emotional! While I think the Darkling returning is dumb, I have less emotional investment in him and the characters surrounding him so that, even though I dont exactly like it, I don’t really mind that much what happens to him, I’m willing to follow the story down whatever nonsensical rabbit hole it wants to go

but WOW I am I NOT a fan of Nina suddenly being the queen of fjerda??????HUGELY MASSIVLEY NOT A FAN OF THAT MY DUDES.  And not just beause it came out of left field (which is most certainly did).

i mean people more articulate then me have already probably talked about why this is a miserable future for her, so. that bites.

Eric, Blake, and Elliot, as this is your first tribal council, please dip your torches.

AnnMarie, how important is trust in a tribal council this big? Do you trust anyone who comes to you, or are you skeptical of everyone?

I'm open to all discussions with everybody in a tribal so large. Trust is important, but easy to maintain. To me, you are innocent until proven guilty, and unless you have lied to me, I'm open to any idea you may have. No plan is good or bad, and nobody is truly good and evil in a game like this.

Blake, you had the worst score in the challenge. Do you think this will ultimately put a target on your back? Do you think the strategy is past ‘keep the tribe strong’?

Ultimately I hope my GOD awful score doesn't put a target on my back... but hey who knows they may be thinking about the merge and be like well that kid wont be any competition for individual immunity so lets keep him around. The strategy about keeping the tribe strong I don't know if that is so relevant now bc so many people have formed relationships. But if my tribe still wants a strong team then I may be on the chopping block...

Bryan, how confident are you in the game post-one world? Do you think your position on your new tribe will be solid after all of this round’s drama?

Dani, after getting a strike in the challenge, do you think you’ll be targeted? How do you assure your fellow players that you’ll be active enough to take part in their plans?

Oh Jay... ENOUGH! Enough is ENOUGH IVE HAD IT! I feel like I’m taking CRAZY pills every time you ask me a god forsaken question... anyways. To answer your question. First of all, I didn’t understand the challenge and had no desire to understand it. Second of all, I had to volunteer all day today so I was just not for it. In other words, Yes. I AM ACTIVE ENOUGH.

Elliot, how has the tribe swap influenced game dynamics? Do you feel more solid with your new tribe or with the old? How do you think the game will have changed after this one world tribal?

The tribe swap has definitely changed the game- you get comfortable and then the tribes all swap around. While there are people I trust on both my tribe, and people I don't, for me this vote comes down to who I think has been the most genuine with me, and while that might alienate me from some people that's a risk I'm going to have to take.

Eric, congratulations on attending your first tribal council this late in the game! How do you sus out where the vote is since you don’t have prior experience with tribals? How do you maximize this opportunity to send the right person home?

Thanks for the warm welcome! haha It's kind of exciting to finally be at a tribal council, especially one where I'm immune. I guess it's important to take the time to chat with others, see how they all feel and take the time to understand what's truly going on. This is a very unique opportunity since everybody on the game is here to vote and it can create a unique voting trend.

Andreas, how much do you think old tribal lines and old alliances will influence this vote?

This vote is all about old tribal lines and old alliances. So I think, this will influence the vote for 100%.

JG, there’s no way for a majority alliance to have existed since tribes are currently smaller than the number needed for a majority, so how do votes get determined in a one world tribal? Is there a cohesive voting block, or will it be a heavily split vote?

Honestly, we won't know until tribal. There are so many strong players who want to still be here the next round and with so few people to be voted its gonna make for a interesting tribal .... I also think this has the potential to shake up any pre-existing shiz. .... oh and hi lynn

Lynn, after the drama between you and JG last round, do you think that animosity will come to a head as you’re one of the people who could potentially be eliminated?

Um the animosity is most definitely coming to a head. I mean even now everyone can obviously see JG doesn’t know how to keep my name from out of his messages to the gc so far. there’s no way you can stop people from believing what they want and JG is obviously coming after me so we’ll see what happens.

Phoenix, what do you think of Tara’s decision to make one world happen?

I mean, I know she was in a rush and people wanted it to happen, so it happened. I don't blame her or anything haha

Raffy, as the numbers dwindle down, how do you set yourself up to be in a good position for the merge?

You be social and hope to god people are being truthful. I want to trust people, but this is Survivor. Trust only goes as far as the things backing up that trust. When people vote together, you trust them. However, things can shift dramatically within the span of one tribal. I don't know how to set myself up for merge, but I pray to god that I am doing all that I can

umm i honestly was just like walking down a rly busy corridor and i was stressing bcos i had to answer quick bcos i had already kept ppl waiting like 20 minutes so i asked in the tribe chat what ppl wanted n ya here we are. umm i honestly don't know what ppl will think of this! i hope they take the time to make new friends and have fun and not stress too much.

Tim, on a scale of 1-10, how rat-like/snake-like is this game? Do you feel you’re playing with trustworthy people, or are you constantly watching your back?

On a scale of one to 10 I'd have to rate the game as of now as a 6. There ARE snakes somewhere because they are inevitable. However, there are different types. You have your garden snake, small and sneaky but common and mostly harmless when they bite. Your Phythons, the big bad snakes who think they're running the show but their fangs hold no venom. They are only deadly one you've came within their ever so "trusting" grip, but from a distance, they are spottable if you know what you are looking for. Finally you have your Black Mambas. NOW these snakes... are deadly asf. You may not even see them coming but once they bite your life in the game is up. I'd advise that you stay as far away as possible from this breed but their camoflage leaves you unable to know who or where they are.

I feel as though everyone is trustworthy but the extent at which they are varies depending on the context of the situation as well as your previous trust.

As we approach our finale in just a couple of days, we come to the fallen colosseum, though deteriorated by ware, it has been the site of marvelous battles for the entertainment of the crowd, just like you all have been this season.  So lets pay tribute to the many housemates lost this season...

Elijah-Leah I didn't expect you to leave the game this early? You're very well liked and extremely popular but I am sad I didn't get to work with you that much in this game bc we were in Trashy4 together and obviously we clicked there so I wouldn't see why we wouldn't work together until you started becoming a bit inactive in the community which I completely understand bc irl shit comes first but much love to you hun <3 I just couldn't help getting you out bc you're popular as fuck and the combo of you and Luke felt like a threat to me and my allies

Nick-You are an exceptional player in the games that youve played and it was sad (yet refreshing) to see you become a target so soon. I knew that everybody was going to be royally screwed with two of the most well liked people in the whole community in a popularity contest. Nick-Although I worked with you for the short period of time you were in the game, it has came to my knowlodge that youre basically the worst entity in this entire community. Not only do you perpetuate hate online, but you also bring it to the real world. You need a reality check, because if you think that any Ivy league is going to take a racist, transphobic, misgendering, problematic biggot to their university... you are strong mistaken. Do you really think that this world needs more hate and bullying than it already has today? You being a member of the LGBT+ community should be a beacon of acceptance and hope for everybody. Nick-Working with you was both really messy, but really fucking fun. Now looking back, I really do think the only reason I wanted you gone is because youre gameplay reminded me a bit too much of myself. You appeared to talk to everyone and have many connections in the game. The one week where you legit gave Sam and I five different names of people that you wanted to have nominated for eviction not only allowed me to build trust with every person's name you threw out, but also let me see how much of a wild card you were going to be in the game... something I did not need. Overall, I had an amazing time playing with you and I hope we will eventually play again some time down the road.

Nick-You were one of the people I trusted the most in this game. I had an amazing time working with both you and Emily this season and I promised you when you got evicted I would watch out for her. You leaving in turn started the best alliance of the season..  the "Queef Queens" which included Samantha, Emily, Elijah, and I. I really wish we could have had this alliance start before you left, but you leaving deffinently drew some lines within the house and let me better secure Emily and Elijah's anti-Christian/Victor mentality... something that helped me and Samantha get further in the game without getting nominated every week.

Elijah-tbh I didn't see myself working with you this game bc I hosted you in Johto and knew you weren't a person I could align myself with and depend on when I needed something ... you were expecting me to save you US week of this game but little did anyone know I had an alliance with Nick, Emily, Sam and myself and we diverted a major plan for your own alliance members to backstab you and somehow we managed to pull thru with it , I do love ya as a person but game wise I couldn't keep you!

Logan-Jay, honestly, you are one of my #faves. The week you went was so messy but it was sooooo much fun. You were sorta robbed but you gotta give Christine credit for the #moves she pulled.

Nick-Sadly, you just ended up being one of those people I straight up never spoke to. I found out partly throught intuition and party through Christine that you were somebody who was close to Christian and Victor... an asset if duos were to end. I worked with Christine and through her and Logan to make sure Jaiden put you up that week instead of people in my alliance (Emily and Elijah). I am truly sorry that we never spoke, something which is partly my fault. I hope that we may have another oppurtunity to play with one another because Ive heard good things about you.
