You save your brothers life, killing the child who could have been your half-brother in the process, and in the moment maybe theres a sick sense of gratification with the revenge, but you're just a child too and you're going to carry that guilt alone forever. You save your brother's life, and in exchange he's raised to hate you, to barely even consider you his brother. And you have to be happy that your brother was raised to hate you- because that means your brother is alive, that he's been treated well, that the guilt that's constantly weighing down on you is WORTH it.

You're raised to hate your brother. You see that there's someone you could play with growing up, someone who wants to be close to you, someone who you don't understand why you're different from- and you're taught that he's filth, that you'd be lowering yourself to interact with him, that if you want your father's respect you have to dismiss him. You're taught to hate your brother to raise yourself higher, and that means that you've been taught to hate yourself because the difference between you and your brother is entirely artificial.
