Hi Pia!
I was rereading the first Ice Plague story the other say and got to the bit where Eran pimps out Mosk (oof) and has that horrible encounter with that one fae that forces him to watch.
Was that fae one of the ones that fed on sexual violence/rape? He seemed to get a lot out of violating Eran at the same time as Mosk.
Also in the fae realm I take it that there's less safety net / social or cultural morality around sexually exploiting someone for money? Most of the fae that came across Eren and Mosk seemed to realise that Mosk wasn't a willing participant but they didn't seem to care or mind much. And this was in public establishments.
And yeah I know this sort of stuff happens in the human realm too but it seems more acceptable in the fae realm?
Like... most human hotels have policies in place that require staff to call the authorities if they witness anything untoward because raoe and sexual exploitation in the human realm is mostly illegal. But that doesn't seem to be the case in the fae realm? Like there's no police force or social safety net or a fae equivalent to human rights organisations or shelters.
I suppose Ash would consider the human realm superior to the fae realm in that regard right? I think I remember him stating that the human realm was better morally because abusing kids was illegal in most places and also that education in the human realm was better because is was more accessible and less based on class ect. Unless I'm misremembering .
Sorry for the wall of text lol. I'm just really curious and have a lot of questions. Thanks for taking the time to read/answer

He was!

Generally speaking, it just depends. Among most fae, there's less legal protections. Like, there's no one Eran could go to, in order to report what happened. There's no one Mosk could go to either. But if they were in a city of common fae, there might be police-style force of people they could go to.
But you couldn't, say, go to the Unseelie King and be like 'I was raped by this fae' because the response is going to be 'that fae needs to rape to survive, but if they're doing it for any other reason, let me know.'
It's a world that simultaneously understands these things really suck to experience, but in many cases (with the exception of child sexual assault) treats them like many other things that suck to experience. It doesn't make them easier to deal with, but it does give many a different perspective.
Most of the fae that came across Eren and Mosk seemed to realise that Mosk wasn't a willing participant but they didn't seem to care or mind much. And this was in public establishments.
And yeah I know this sort of stuff happens in the human realm too but it seems more acceptable in the fae realm?
It is, especially in certain cities, or in desperate times (it was definitely desperate times during The Ice Plague). It mostly depends on who runs the bar/pub/establishment, honestly. Some will allow that stuff, some won't. Some will kill you for it without blinking.
I suppose Ash would consider the human realm superior to the fae realm in that regard right?
He maybe thought that way once, but I don't think he does anymore. Like, we can see in The Nascent Diplomat that almost all fae (including Augus and the Raven Prince) have extremely strong and visceral reactions to child sexual abuse. It's clearly very frowned upon and if anything, more decisive action is taken in the fae realm than in the human realm (where most child rapists never get sentenced or see any consequences for their actions - Oxcillian was killed without a trial lol).
Something being illegal doesn't actually mean the people committing the act are seeing consequences for that act in any consistent or meaningful way.
Stertes attempted to rape Eran, and Mosk murdered him. It really just depends on the fae that are around at the time.
I would say the system is uglier in some ways, and cleaner in others. It highlights the power differential and class structures in a more stark way, but our human world has those too, and they're often more hidden, insidious, and sometimes even more damaging.
I find that really interesting to think about. I don't think Ash thinks the human realm is better anymore.
#asks and answers#fae tales verse#fae tales#game theory#the ice plague#the nascent diplomat#it's very much just a lot more situational#there are no really overdone structured justice systems outside of very specific cities#but the cities that have them adhere to them strongly#like some of the cities visited in book 3 of The Ice Plague would definitely have had#laws against rape and cold-blooded murder#with the *exception* of fae who need to do those things to survive#fae just understand that different fae need different things to live#humans don't have to deal with that complication#administrator gwyn wants this in the queue

I do wonder if part of the ‘is WWX morally grey’ debate comes not from disagreement on WWX’s actions and motivations, but from what ‘morally grey’ actually means?
I personally believe that a character’s moral purity (for lack of a better word) is defined by 1) the character's morals and how they’re framed in context of the piece of media, and 2) how strongly said character adheres to this moral code. WWX’s morals are upheld by the text (and tend to be ‘good’ regardless, eg protecting and defending people who can't protect themselves). He constantly strives to do the ‘right’ thing, without regard for gains or losses, regardless of whether others decide to praise or blame — and sticking to this code is one of the most important, if not the most important, aspects of his character. To me, that therefore makes him not ‘morally grey’ (the same goes for LWJ, etc). This stands in contrast to people like NMJ, who do follow their ideas of ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ strongly, but these ideas give a very limited and potentially harmful view of the world (eg all Wens, even ones who have done nothing, are evil) and so are condemned in the novel. It also stands in contrast to the many characters who simply… don’t follow a moral code that strongly.
However, this isn’t the view all people have. My view upholds the general and the intentions strongly, and not so much the spefics or the consequences. For example, in that framework, WWX can do some wrong/harmful/ill-intentioned things while still not being ‘morally grey’, because of his orientation towards his code as described above. And I’m not disputing the fact that he does do some of these things — I’d argue that the majority of ‘WWX is not morally grey’ supporters don’t dispute that, either. But there’s room for imperfection, mistakes and nuance in this view before a character reaches a morality which is ‘grey’.
However, to others, specific actions can’t be excused as easily, and so the above isn’t the case — each significantly ‘bad’ thing a person does impacts their morality. So regardless of WWX’s general character, his actions in regards to WC, Nightless City etc do make him morally grey… because after that, how can he not be? Those actions and their consequences happened, and there was a lot of harm done, regardless of WWX’s general character.
I also believe that someone’s moral standing can be different at different points of one’s life. Let’s leave MDZS behind for this example and look at TGCF instead: did XL, in book 4, want to commit genocide against the people of Yong’An by unleashing the Human Face Disease on them? Yes. Does he, in the present, regret that action/intention and strive to do good instead? Also yes. So in my framework, is he morally grey now due to those actions? No. The same idea for me is true in regards to MDZS. Was WWX ‘morally grey’ during his torture of the Wens and in the SSC? I’d personally say yes (by my own standards, definitely — by novel standards it’s a little more complex since I’d argue MDZS doesn’t view revenge against people who wronged you as unjust. But it’s certainly not praising the actual lengths WWX went to, and doesn’t present his actions in a positive light. There’s also an internal comment of WWX’s supporting this reading, when he says he went a bit too far back in the Sunshot Campaign, though note that was referring more to his actions in controlling dead Wen soldiers than to his specific revenge on Wen Chao). But does that mean WWX is ‘morally grey’ at every instance after that, that it taints him forever? No!
But again, this idea is a point of dispute. I know that some people don’t consider ‘moral greyness’ at different points in a character’s life*, instead looking at all the character’s actions and intentions comprehensively. In this view, the torture of WC etc would impact WWX’s moral standing for the entire rest of the novel, as once you’ve done something it sticks with you forever.
Finally, though I prioritise the novel’s framing of morality over my personal thoughts on it, some people are the opposite. And depending on what those people’s personal morals are, it can very much change your reading on WWX’s morality.
So tl;dr — I definitely think it’s possible to have the same reading of who WWX is, while having different views on whether he’s ‘morally grey’ or not. Though I’d argue he’s not, somebody disagreeing with that doesn’t mean they’re automatically wrong about who WWX is — it could just be a different definition of a pretty underfined term. The opposite is also true: just because someone thinks WWX isn’t morally grey, it doesn’t mean they think he never caused harm or acted absolutely perfectly in everything he did. Simply that his actions were understandable enough in context of who he is and his circumstances, to not actually impact his morals and views towards upholding morality as a whole**.
For me, at least, what makes WWX a good person isn’t that he never does anything wrong, harmful, or over-the-top. It’s that he never hesitates to do what’s right, no matter the condemnation he may face — when barely any other characters in MDZS do.
—
*Or rather, they judge it by a comprehensive list of actions the character has done up until the relevant point in their lives. Ie a child version of a character isn’t culpable for what their older self did — however, once an action is taken, that action affects the character’s moral standing for the rest of their life, no matter their views on that action in the present day.
**In terms of moral alignments as opposed to purity, however? WWX’s commitment to doing what he thinks is right is indisputable.
#(i do feel there’s a lot of nuance to this disagreement we’re missing)#(which doesn’t come from a place of ill-intent and does deserve to be addressed)#mdzs meta#wei wuxian#mo dao zu shi#gdc#魔道祖师#my meta#tgcf spoilers

Meridian | Ivrel | Tjong | Vita | Audrist | Zee
Alleged prophet of dubious quality.
Meridian Sunyo is an unusual young vagrant claiming to be from the lost archipelago of Kalirang. Sometimes, he claims to be the apocalyptic prophet Aphelion, sometimes he claims to be a very ordinary person, and sometimes he claims he's here to kill the prophet instead. It's not clear which is true, only that it's certainly… difficult to entirely believe any of the above.
Born in the capital of the Northernmost island of Kalirang, they lived their entire life within the city up to the fall. While their inner monologue mostly reveals a mundane life as the only son of pair of antique shop owners, it also reveals a strange encounter with a mysterious pirate and a career as a burgeoning oracle. They died in the fall of Kalirang, though their body was miraculously preserved for several centuries, kept by Lian and Paija.
Lian ressurected Meridian using a powerful relic in the year 517 Post-Aphelion, the same day as a great meteorite fall. Afterwards, it took him nearly a month to become lucid again. Confined to the upper floor of an abandoned shophouse, he remained there for another two months before Paija facilitated his escape. Still, he claims his recollection of his past life is fuzzy. Meridian always draws a hard line between his past self and his current one, but what exactly has changed...?
They are very polite and awkward (albeit somewhat endearingly so). They have a reduced affect display, which becomes quickly becomes noticeable to others that spend time with them. Mery strongly lacks in ego - both in the sense that they are devastatingly insecure and that they have a very weak sense of self. However, he is a skilled manipulator, often exploiting his own naive exterior to use others to his advantage - make someone think you'll do what they want, and they won't even notice when the reverse happens instead. They are modest about their capabilities and often flounder under the spotlight. Still, they have a terrible habit of impulsively lying under pressure, which gets them wrapped up in situations that they're woefully unprepared for.
Regardless of his deceptive tendencies, he will always keep promises and return favors.Despite constantly demonstrating his frustrations with it, he is strictly adherent to his own opaque ethics and a sense of "responsibility…" for what exactly is not quite clear. Meridian struggles heavily with his own morality, though he expresses an intent to not become "evil." They try to remain objective and restrained, believing they do not have feelings in quite the same way as others do… but, of course, they cannot help but act on said feelings sometimes, anyways. Despite their incredible magic capacity, they are rather lazy and always try to avoid conflict. In most scenarios, they keep their facade of nonaggression until faced with mortal danger and don't particularly enjoy fighting, though they seem to enjoy humiliating their opponents when the opportunity shows itself.
After his ressurection, Mery is now host to a powerful space-warping relic (which is also responsible for perfectly preserving his body in the time between). It's a little damaged, though, but he's not pressed about it… In fact, he seems kind of relieved. They can summon a set of four rings that can be used as portals, forcefields, attractor/repulsor beams, disk blades, or uh, a method of locomotion? They stand on them and use them like levitating rollerskates. He has a degree of telekinesis but cannot lift anything heavier than what he could normally carry. In order to fuel his magic (and his lifeforce), he must sacrifice other relics - the amount of power he gets is directly proportional to the power of the relic he sacrifices.

oh my god i love these questions. 1, 11, 16 for dai, bran and eniko!
thanks sweets!! / oc asks: childhood edition
1. What was your muse's personality like as a kid? How has it changed since then?
DAI — is exactly the same as he was as a kid sldkfjdlksjf. honestly he's probably lightened up since then? he was a really solemn and somber kid with a distinct sense of otherness—he's never once met another drow. between that and the war and then taking care of his dad after he's just always been a tiny, determined, responsible little bean (he was So Cute. like yeah it's fucked up to have a kid in a war zone helping around camp but also. mascot!)
BRAN — bran was a little more... well-behaved? she didn't think for herself as much and was more prone to following the status quo. definitely still eager to explore and a whirlwind of a kid—she kept her parents and her tutors on their toes—but when she was a kid the world was a kind and logical place where she had everything she need and things were they way they were because they were meant to be like that, if that makes sense. it wasn't until her mom died and she got a peek behind the curtain that she realized how supremely fucked up everything was, and that dissonance built and built until the only thing she could do about it was run.
ENIKO — oh my sweet boy. enikö has always always known that he wasn't supposed to be there, and if he had any right to exist it was as something useful. his (step?) dad made that incredibly clear to him growing up, but also offered him respect when he proved he could keep up. they might honestly have eventually figured their shit out, except then his parents died and he ended up in the city with sir who just drove all of that home harder and harder in order to make enikö something useful to him. he got older, he got even more cynical, the world got bleaker. the fear got bigger, and so did the anger. it didn't change when he killed sir; he just got better at hiding it. working with wick, and traveling with the party, is probably the best thing to ever happen to him, if only because he'll finally have to confront his existence as a person and not a weapon
11. What expectations were placed on your muse as a child? Who had those expectations for your muse? How did your muse feel about them?
DAI — to be clear, nobody ever explicitly told daichi he had to do or be anything. but he was a kid in an environment where every single day was fight-or-die and he internalized the need to be useful so hard. his father's love for the sunsingers (and growing up around the order's clerics and paladins and leadership) influenced him pretty strongly as well; when he joined the order it was pretty much like going to school where all his dad's friends and allies (and daichi's childhood heroes) were the teachers. there was definitely pressure put on him by way of his father's reputation, but his own expectations have always been bigger than anyone else's. he figures that's just how things are—honestly he expects more people to step up, and definitely has been disappointed when people don't adhere to the same level of responsibility that he does.
BRAN — branwen always knew she was going to grow up and inherit the family's business and fortune and relationship with the empress, but it was a far-off thing that she didn't need to worry about because her mother was there to handle it and guide her and teach her. and then her mom got sick and then her mom died and suddenly branwen was left with all those far-off expectations laid directly at her feet and balked hard. and then ran away from home and we all know how that turned out
ENIKO — as a wee kiddo enikö's only real expectation was to work hard and keep out of the way the rest of the time. and then he met sir and was expected to do, to be, so much. quiet, attentive, smart, quick, deadly, unflinching, obedient, perfect. and he was, because he was lucky to be here, fed (mostly) and clothed (mostly) and alive (mostly), and he just let it happen and happen and happen until he didn't, and afterwards he didn't know what to be except all the things sir had made him into, so. yeah
16. If your muse could say one thing to their childhood self, what would they say? Would your muse want to meet their childhood self in the first place?
DAI — oh god. oh god. daichi with his armor and scars and self-discovery sitting down next to little daichi in the war camp. would he even recognize himself? daichi would never remember being so small; even as a kid he always felt more than half grown. little daichi would be so awed. daichi would tell him to spend more time cultivating joy. he'd wish a little more happiness for that boy.
BRAN — big bran and little bran would be an absolute nightmare (affectionate). I don't know that branwen would have anything specific to tell her childhood self. she'd give that little girl a kiss on the forehead and tell her it all turns out okay. I think that would be plenty for both of them. also they would cause SO much trouble for any period of time they were together. (I don't think Bran would willingly meet her childhood self, but I think if faced with tiny gap-toothed branwen she wouldn't be able to help herself. it would do a lot for her self-acceptance to see that little girl and realize how badly she wants to take care of her)
ENIKO — eniko would absolutely not want to meet his childhood self but it would be so good for him. his childhood self would, I think, be so sad to see himself grown up like that. maybe angry too. they'd understand each other perfectly without saying anything—the regret, the anger, the iron resolve. the pity—for what was coming, for what had happened. I don't know that eniko would have anything to say to his younger self, but his younger self, still with that fraying thread of hope, would ask him if he ever wanted to fight back. to find something better. "yes," eniko would say. "do we?" "yes," eniko would say again, not because he has, but because he will.

if dooslefriend was a fairly-shitty ya fantasy book trilogy, how would you divide it into 3-5 houses/guilds/sects to vigorously push merch for, what symbol would they have, and what 1-3 words would completely describe them
this is the best ask ive ever gotten. thank you.
my first thought was to turn the three planets into the houses, but after further consideration i think each planet would each have its own set of 3-5 houses, where the rulers of each are considered the head of all their houses. each planet is rivals with each other because of course they are. anyways a read more because im going to be insane for the next few 100 words
PLANET SKYWAIY: One out of the two considered powerhouses. Seen over by (googles fantasy name generator title names) the Divine Aka. While each house of Skywaiy is unique, they all put great value in the more naturalistic side of life, attempting to coexist with nature while still advancing their own technology and magic.
House Ravenway: The house of elegance and hardiness. Those in House Ravenway are diplomatic yet tough, and willing to stand up for what they believe in. They have natural leadership skills, and tend to be more militaristic than the other houses. They have a strong belief in the Divine. Their symbol is the raven, and their house colors are light blue and white.
House Athergon: The house of the independent and magic. While each house uses magic, the house of Athergon makes it its main focus. Those in this house are creative, intelligent, and abstract, but tend to focus more on bettering themselves then others. They are either indifferent to or look up to the Divine. Their symbol is the snake, and their house colors are gold and purple.
House Isleman: The house of cunning and delinquents. This house is the most disorganized, and therefore is scrutinized the most by the Divine, to which they have a very negative view on. Those in this house are stubborn, ambitious and combative. They have the least amount of focus on magic, instead preferring the dirtiness of physical combat. Their symbol is the kraken and their house colors are orange and green.
PLANET TOOLAH: The second of two the considered powerhouses. Seen over by Divine Sabre. Each house of Toolah all put great value into innovation and the future.
House Polybrook: The house of capital and culture. This house is the most diverse, and gives home to many merchants and young inventors looking to make their way in the world. Fueled strongly by innovation, those in this house are open-minded, hard-working, and detailed. Their symbol is the butterfly and their colors are pink and white.
House Thunder: The house of rationality and mind. This house is the most peaceful of the houses, focusing on the more philosophical aspects of life. They tend to be very in-tune with themselves, yet still observant of the outside world. If in need to fight, they prefer to use themselves as a weapon, instead of using magic or built weaponry. Their symbol is the red panda and their colors are red and light yellow.
House Wyerwood: The house of nature and change. This house focuses on flora and fauna. Said to be one with nature, many in this house work with agriculture and animals, and they tend to be against the development of industrial areas. Many in this house are reclusive, choosing to live out in the wild instead of the city. Their symbol is the rabbit and their colors are light green and light purple.
PLANET STARLESS: The third head of houses, yet not considered to be very strong. Only one house stands after the planet's destruction.
House Starbound: The house of exploration and survival. Made up of the remaining survivors, this house is disheveled and unruly. There is no order among its members, instead, they chose to wander about and adhere to no rules. Infighting is common as those in the house tend to be selfish, the only goal in mind being survival. Their symbol is the wolf and their colors and black and gray.
#ask#anon#stormyy.png#world; douselfend#CAN YOU GUYS TELL WHICH HOUSES ARE THE 'EVIL' ONES CAN YOU TELL !!!!!!!!!!#trying to describe dagger island/whinstry in a way that makes them BAD and WRONG was so hard but i think i got it.#there were some other ideas for houses i had but i left them out bc i didnt want this to be as long as a book#the protag of this douselfend is a white blonde blue eyed girl who falls in love with hunky white boy with blond hair from house ravenway#but then in her travels meets hunky white boy with brown hair from house polybrook and gets torn between them#meanwhile there is another hunky white boy with black hair in house starbound who is mysterious yet has been very helpful to the protag#whose feelings go unacknowledged by the protag until the very end of the book when she finally realizes who really cares about her...#and then they have 3 kids in the span of 2 years

TToFaË: A Dawn from the West (3)
<<< Previous Post | Masterpost | Next Post >>>
“I’ve always felt rooted to this place.”
Fëor’s forlorn eyes remained fixed on the ground as he explained himself. Ërna remained silent, wondering if he actually hated his home, too—but that thought was quickly abandoned.
“I’m comfortable here,” Fëor clarified. “Home is where I’m happiest. Like the herbs and trees around me, I feel rejuvenated by the roots I’ve planted here. And yet, despite that…there are times when I feel bound by them, too.”
Fëor looked up at Ërna, gazing straight into her eyes.
“That’s how I felt when you spoke just now. I was inspired, but also reminded of my reluctance. That’s why I feel a bit jealous; because, despite your struggles, you had the strength to wander against all odds. I can’t do that.”
Ërna didn’t know how to respond to that. It was difficult for her to fathom how a person’s home could hold their heart so strongly.
“Have you never gone on a journey before?” She asked, wondering just how far his reluctance to stray from home went.
He shook his head.
“Ever since I was born from a sálwëamára that grew upon Gälnos, I’ve never left Gälenor. I’ve always stayed close to this glade, my house, or Gälnos.”
Born from a berry…on the great tree Gälnos?! Ërna thought to herself, mystified. Not from Mýrás like the rest of us?
“D-d-does that mean you literally can’t leave this place?” Ërna spluttered.
“No, that’s not the case,” he replied, somewhat unsettled by her sudden change of demeanor. “Animals wander freely, after all; and they were born from Gälnos, too. Besides, I actually have a brother who wanders often, despite being so frail. He was born from a sálwëamára too, but his grew on a higher branch than mine did, so…perhaps our blessings are different.”
“I-I see,” Ërna managed, feeling a bit silly. “What stops you from leaving, then?”
“I guess I’m just afraid,” he admitted. “I’m afraid it’s not just the wonderful stories I’ve heard that are true…but the horrifying ones, as well. Compared to those, the comfort of home seems much safer.”
Ërna stiffened.
“What stories are you most afraid of?” She finally asked, fearing the answer he might give.
Fëor hesitated. He didn’t want to tell the truth. In fact, he was beginning to regret how much he had already said. It was strange how quickly the two of them opened up to each other…but it was too late to stop now, so he decided to tread cautiously.
“Just beyond the borders of Gälenor,” Fëor began slowly, “I’ve heard stories about a kingdom called Pelría. Nothing compares to the prosperity and splendor of that place. Its ancient capital, Pelren, rests beneath a blue-leafed tree called Mýrás—which is even older than Gälnos, apparently.
The greatest garden in all of Älthren is there as well, tended to by a priestess devoted to both Ëolna and Rëálna. It puts this flower-filled glade to shame. After all, they say it was created by the Three Kindred, who worked together in harmony long before Pelren grew to be such a sprawling city. I hope that place is real. I truly do. But, as for ones who conquered that city to create their new kingdom…”
He paused, thinking carefully before continuing.
“They’ve developed incredible technology, done many great deeds, and helped thousands reach higher standards of living…but their violence and philosophies are frightening. Their first king, Eldrenir, betrayed his own adopted nephew to solidify power—and that was only after his greed led him to begin attacking his own people, over and over again, in an attempt to grow his hoard of land.
“Now their light spreads like wildfire, forcing the land to regrow in their image. Every story I’ve heard, despite the beauty therein, foretells the same fate: that their prosperity comes with a price. That is the seed from which Pelría grew, and now they are hostile to anyone who isn’t their kin or adherent to their belief that the land is theirs alone to shape. So even though I’d like to see the wondrous things they’ve made, I just don't think a person like me would be welcome over there..."
There was a moment of silence as Fëor’s voice faded away.
“So you’re afraid of the Eldásrí,” Ërna said, finally naming the group that Feor painstakingly avoided mentioning directly. Her wind was cold and heavy, burdened by an incredibly deep sense of sorrow.
“I am,” Fëor admitted gruffly. “And if those stories are true…then I’m even afraid to stay home, because this place would be next. In fact, that's what my foster-sister fears more than anything.”
“D-do you hate the Eldásrí, then?” Ërna faltered. "Do you think they're all bad?"
Fëor was silent for a while as he considered her plea, which only deepened her dread. After all, if she couldn't find acceptance at home...what would she do if she couldn't find it here, either? Waiting for an answer to that question felt like an eternity.
But finally, Fëor spoke.
"The seeds of fear and suffering have been planted in my heart by the stories I've heard. I can't deny that."
Ërna was crestfallen.
"Any yet," he resumed, avoiding eye contact, "I still believe that some Eldásrí are like you: a petal dancing in the wind at dawn, gentle and warm.”
Finally finding the (rare) poetic side of himself, Fëor turned his once-awkward speech into the words that Ërna needed to hear most. That didn't stop him from feeling incredibly embarrassed, though. Face red and eyes closed shut, he scolded himself for getting so carried away after talking about old stories; but when he opened his eyes and saw Ërna's reaction, that feeling quickly abated.
She was rubbing tears from her eyes.
Fëor smiled softly in turn, offering silent support as relief settled into her spirit. After all, she was an Eldásr herself. To receive acceptance rather than prejudice from someone living in a land threatened by her people must have meant a lot to her—an Eldásr running not only from her own hostile home, but from an externally-imposed identity she felt no harmony with.
“You know," she began softly, "if you want to see the world beyond this grove, you don’t have to travel alo—“
A growl from the edge of the glade cut her words short.

FAMILY LAW
MOHAMMEDAN LAW - SCHOOLS OF MUSLIM LAW, SHARIAT ACT, 1937
Introduction Muslim law is derived mostly from the Quran, Sunna, Hadis, Ijma, and Qiya. Muslim jurist interpretations on topics that are not explained by the Quran or Sunna are referred to as qiya. Conflicting interpretations frequently surfaced since jurists would unavoidably read all sources differently. As such, these divergences of views gave rise to several legal schools. The two primary Islam sects, Sunnis and Shias, each have their own educational institutions. Even if different schools hold divergent views, the Muslim world believes that every one of them is accurate. No school is thus more famous than another.
Schools of Muslim Law
Hanafi School - The Hanafi school, renowned among Muslims, is named after its founder, Abu Hanafi. This school primarily adheres to the conventions and precedents of the Muslim community, which are based on the traditions established by Prophet Mohammed. This is due to the fact that the Prophet explicitly prohibited the formalisation of his words and teachings. Consequently, in instances where the Quran lacked clarification, this school placed its trust on the traditions of the Prophet. The Hedaya is the most definitive book of this school. The subject matter encompasses concepts such as inheritance and the orderly transfer of leadership among adherents of this particular educational institution. Sirajiyya is a significant piece of work in this context. The Hanafi school of Muslim law is the most widely adhered to among all schools, particularly among Muslims in India. Therefore, when courts are tasked with interpreting Islamic law principles, they typically prioritise this school as their primary source.
Maliki School - The name of this institution is derived from its founder, Imam Malik-bin-Anas. It emerged at the same time as the Hanafi school, but it initially thrived in the city of Madina. The Hanafi school bases its teachings on Ijma, which refers to the interpretations of jurists. On the other hand, the Maliki school derives its principles from Sunna and Hadis. These two significant sources prioritise the sayings, teachings, customs, and traditions of Prophet Mohammed. Imam Malik meticulously compiled a vast amount of knowledge on numerous documented traditions of the Prophet. Subsequently, he compiled the majority of them in a book, which currently holds the highest status among Hadith collections. Despite the limited number of adherents to this school, Indian laws have incorporated and systematised many aspects of its principles.
Shafi School - This educational institution traces its roots back to Muhammed bin Irdis Shafi, a disciple of both Imam Malik and Imam Hanafi. He is regarded as one of the most significant jurists by the Muslim world. The Shafi school is essentially a synthesis of the Maliki school and the Hanafi school. Ijma, which refers to the interpretations made by jurists, holds the utmost significance as a legal source in the Shafi school. Additionally, it is dependent on the traditions and practices of the Muslim community. The Qiya source of law, derived from this school, relies on the use of analogical reasoning by individuals. The Shafi school is predominantly widespread in Egypt and certain nations in Southeast Asia. Typically, Muslims from the Malabar region of Kerala in India adhere to this particular school.
Hanbali School - Ahmed bin Hanbal, a follower of Imam Shafi, founded this school. His thesis dismissed the Shafi school due to its reliance on Qiya, which refers to the individual analogical thinking and interpretations of individuals. However, he strongly advocated for returning to Sunna and Hadis as sources for interpreting the Quran and other legal principles. This was due to his belief that the teachings and traditions of Prophet Mohammed hold greater significance than individuals' interpretations. Consequently, Imam Hanbal amassed a multitude of Hadiths and organised them systematically in his book, Musnad. The Hanbali school is predominantly followed by the inhabitants of Saudi Arabia, Syria, and the neighbouring areas.
Shariat Act 1937
The Muslim Personal Law (Shariat) governs marriage, ending a marriage (including talaq, ila, zihar, lian, khula, and mubaraat), support, dower, guardianship, gifts, trusts and trust properties, and wakfs (other than charities, charitable institutions, and charitable and spiritual endowments). It also covers maintenance, dower, guardianship, gifts, trusts, and trust properties. In cases where both parties are Muslims, the Shariat Act says that Muslim Law should be used to decide the case if it includes any of the following: Succession by will Something unique about ladies Getting married Breakup of a marriage Taking care of Guardianship for Dower Give When you trust someone or something, Wakf
If both the parties in a case are Muslims then there shall be an application of Muslim Personal Law.
Power to make decisions - If a person meets the following requirements: being a Muslim, being capable and efficient to contract under section 11 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872, and being a resident of the territories covered by this Act, they can apply for the provisions of this section and subsequent sections by filing a declaration with the prescribed authority. If the prescribed authority denies a declaration under subsection 1, the person who wishes to make it may file an appeal with such office as the State Government may appoint in this regard by general or special order, and such officer may, if satisfied that the appellant is entitled to make the declaration, order the prescribed authority to accept it.
Rule making power - The government may develop regulations to influence the requirements of this Act. Specifically, and without limiting the scope of the aforementioned powers, such rules may address all or any of the following: a. defining the authority and, consequently, the type of authority before which statements under this Act are to be made; b. for establishing the fees to be paid for filing declarations and for visiting someone at their home while carrying out his responsibilities under this Act; and for establishing the hours at which such fees will be collectible and, consequently, the way they will be collected. Rules made under this section will be published in the Official Gazette and will then be enforceable as though they were part of this Act. The State Legislature shall be notified of any rule adopted by the authorities under this Act as soon as it is drafted. Court dissolution of marriage in particular, but not specifically mentioned or expressed, circumstances.Rep. by section 6 of the Dissolution of Muslim Marriages Act, 1939 (8 of 1939) on 17 March 1939.

Keep the wall Clean by Hiring Graffiti Removal Service
Today, graffiti is a type of street art, self-expression of artists in youth groups around the world. Graffiti artists create works of a free genre that become part of the subculture and life of the city. Also, Graffiti today is one of the most accessible and effective ways to decorate the walls of buildings. But, in some places, you can often see vandal graffiti left by teenagers and hooligans on the walls of various houses.
To remove these types of drawings, you should call Graffiti Removal Service in Woodstock. The best company offers cleaning and removal of graffiti from the walls of buildings using the highest quality equipment, as well as the best methods and tools. They will quickly clean the wall of your house from traces of “rock” painting and apply a painting with brushes, which will delight you for many years.
When is graffiti removal required?
Removing graffiti from building facades is required in cases where they are vandal in nature. Such images are left on the walls of buildings without the permission of the owner of the property. Most often these are immoral drawings that include obscene language. Thus, people express their protest and try to convey their opinions to the public without thinking about the consequences.
And the owner of the building is faced with the fact that the house takes on an unaesthetic and often even repulsive appearance. If such graffiti is applied to the walls of a commercial building, then this also greatly affects the number of customers and the company’s income. Therefore, it is very important to get rid of street art as quickly as possible. And the masters of the Graffiti removal company will help you with this.
Difficulty in removing graffiti
Many people believe that there is no need to seek help from specialists and that they can easily remove graffiti and numbers from the walls of a company, house, or apartment on their own. But in practice, this turns out to be very difficult.
The fact is that to apply graffiti, special aerosol paint is used in cans, which strongly eats into any surface and spoils its original appearance. Paint penetrates into the deep structures of materials and adheres well to them, making it almost impossible to remove graffiti from walls on your own.
Another difficulty that a building owner faces when removing such graffiti is the height of the object. Most often, hooligans use the upper floors to apply street paintings so that their “masterpiece” can be seen by as many people as possible. And if the drawing is in a hard-to-reach place, it can only be removed using special equipment for industrial mountaineering. In addition to the equipment itself, such work requires appropriate training.
The expert services have all the necessary tools, skills and knowledge to quickly and effectively get rid of graffiti anywhere. By contacting them, you will not need to think about all these difficulties - we will do everything efficiently and professionally.
Methods for removing graffiti from building facades

Jet sprays
The essence of this graffiti removal method is using water spray. It is more gentle and does not leave marks.
Effective chemical solutions
They use special chemical acid graffiti removers that allow you to quickly and effectively remove paint from the wall. But these compounds must be used carefully, as they are unsafe.
Professionals can use these very well.

Amid a Dispute Over Costs, the Terraria Developer Donates $200,000 to Unity Rivals
Re-Logic, the developer behind Terraria, has expressed strong support for the open-source game development engines Godot and FNA in response to Unity's recent announcement regarding runtime fees. The Terraria team, known for their successful indie game on Steam, has criticized Unity for eroding trust with its new fee structure, which would impose charges on successful games for each download beyond a specific revenue and lifetime install threshold. In response, Re-Logic has pledged $100,000 donations to both Godot and FNA, along with ongoing sponsorships. Unity, the creators of the widely-used Unity Engine in the game development industry, unveiled policies that would introduce additional fees, potentially reaching up to 20 cents per installation once games achieve certain revenue and install milestones. Notable games using Unity Engine include Cities Skylines, Among Us, Hollow Knight, Cuphead, and Genshin Impact. Since this announcement, numerous developers have publicly criticized the changes. For instance, the developer of Metal Hellsinger advised players to acquire the game "while you can" as it evaluates its future, and the developer of Slay the Spire made its first-ever public statement, considering a change of engine for its next game, which is already well into development. Terraria is not constructed on Unity; it employs a proprietary engine based on Microsoft's XNA framework, although it incorporates some Unity elements in its console and mobile versions. Despite this, Re-Logic voiced its concern, stating, "The loss of a formerly leading and user-friendly game engine to the darker forces that negatively impact so much of the gaming industry has left us dismayed to put it mildly. We feel like we cannot sit idly by as these predatory moves are made against studios everywhere." Re-Logic strongly condemns the proposed changes and the way they were introduced, characterizing them as unnecessary and tragic for the industry. They emphasize that even if Unity were to backtrack on its policies, the damage to trust would not be easily repaired. To counterbalance this situation, Re-Logic has committed to supporting emerging open-source game engines. They have announced $100,000 donations to both Godot and FNA, which are free and open-source development tools. Additionally, Re-Logic has pledged ongoing monthly donations of $1,000 to each of these engines, with the expectation that they continue their efforts to make these engines robust and accessible for developers. Re-Logic concludes by stating that they have always been supportive of game developers and indie studios that adhere to ethical practices. They believe that their actions, by strengthening competing open-source game engines, will empower and assist struggling studios in light of recent events. Unity has issued an apology for the confusion and concerns caused by their runtime fee policy and has indicated that changes to the policy will be made, although specific details are yet to be revealed. However, as Re-Logic's statement highlights, repairing the relationships strained by these events may prove to be challenging or even impossible. If this news has reignited your interest in Terraria, you can catch up on all the Terraria bosses, their locations, and how to defeat them. We've also highlighted the best Terraria mods to keep you engaged while Re-Logic continues work on update 1.4.5. Read the full article

The Future of Shredding Services in Tampa: 5 Trends to Watch Out For!
Today, more than ever, the demand for data security measures has catapulted to unprecedented heights. Therefore, shredding services are at the forefront, ensuring confidentiality and compliance. Amidst this backdrop, the city of Tampa, known for its energetic business landscape, is witnessing an exponential growth in the need for these professional services. So, we shed some light on the key trends driving the future of shredding in Tampa. Whether you're a privacy-conscious individual, a business owner, or someone intrigued by data privacy concerns, keep reading to see what's in store for you.
1. Increasing Demand for On-Site Shredding
On-site (or mobile) Tampa shredding services will eventually be all the rage. Mobile shredding offers greater control and security to businesses and individuals over their sensitive data. It also offers peace of mind that the documents are destroyed confidentially, safely, and immediately. This reduces the potential risk of transporting documents to an off-site location. The demand for on-site services is expected to grow, mainly among businesses like legal firms or hospitals handling a high volume of sensitive or proprietary data.
2. The Convenience of Shredding Trucks
The future of shredding also lies in fully-equipped mobile shredding trucks. These specially fitted vehicles provide businesses with a convenient option to have their confidential papers shredded at their doorstep. These trucks allow for more frequent shredding routines and reduce storage needs. Plus, you immediately get your certificate of destruction, giving you an additional layer of security.
3. Improved Regulatory Compliance
As information protection rules and regulations continue to tighten, businesses in Tampa seek shredding services to help them adhere to compliances such as HIPAA, GLBA, and FACTA. In the future, service providers will need to offer comprehensive documentation and follow specific standards to prove regulatory compliance to become a key player in a business's overall compliance strategy.
4. Eco-Friendly Shredding
With growing awareness about environmental sustainability, many Tampa businesses, and even those in Clearwater, Sarasota, or around are seeking shredding services that prioritize eco-friendly practices. So, Tampa or Sarasota shredding services will increasingly have to focus on recycling shredded materials and reducing landfill waste, attracting businesses looking to minimize their carbon footprint.
5. Integration of Advanced Technology
Sooner or later, technological advancements will also change the shredding landscape. Future shredding services may leverage artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) for more efficient sorting and shredding processes. Blockchain might also make it to the industry for better tracking and documenting the process, providing a secure, tamper-proof digital record.
The Bottom Line
As we explored the future contours of the shredding services industry in Tampa and around, it is evident that this industry may be at the cusp of a paradigm shift. Driven by a diverse spectrum of factors such as technological leaps, ever-evolving regulations, and environmental consciousness, the future is geared towards building a sector that is more secure, efficient, and synergistic with the demands of contemporary businesses and individual needs. In addition, as Tampa businesses continue to prosper, they may strongly rely on this evolution to keep pace with their needs, ensuring that Tampa remains the gold standard of data privacy and secure document destruction and disposal.

film reviews: Empire of the Sun
Synopsis: In 1941, Japan and China have been at war for four years. Wealthy European and American expatriates live an opulent, sheltered life in Shanghai’s International Settlement as politically neutral parties, untouched by the havoc wreaked in other cities like Nanjing, and enjoying an uneasy truce with the Japanese occupying forces. This all changes after the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor and America declares war on Japan. Jamie Graham is the son of a British textile magnate but finds that his privileged upbringing in China has suddenly come to an end with the declaration of war, and that his father has waited too long to vacate the country to safety. As thousands throng the streets in a panic Jamie’s family tries to get to the docks in hopes of some transport out of the country, but all three lose sight of each other in the crowds, and Jamie finds himself completely alone. As he wanders the streets without direction, he’s taken in by a pair of shipbreakers who try to eek out a living selling scrap metal. Giving up on their hopeless professions, they end up in a Japanese internment camp, where conditions are appalling. They endure four years of internment, waiting for the war to end, as Jamie continues hoping that he’ll one day be reunited with his family.
Review: This is a masterpiece, one of the best films I’ve ever seen, point blank. I would describe the film as the power of Schindler’s List mixed with the whimsy of Jurassic Park. Steven Spielberg directed it, and those who’ve seen Schindler’s List know how powerful his films can be. This film tells its story through the eyes of its child protagonist, and shows things happen the way a child would see them, with a heroic, adventurous scope, yet the film remains piercingly intelligent and frank with the sometimes brutal subject matter, never dumbing it town or wrapping it in cotton. True to Spielberg’s style, the film is gorgeously shot, in fact it’s some of the most beautiful cinematography I’ve ever seen, and I was often in awe throughout. The luxury of Jamie Graham’s world is contrasted with the dingy city streets of Shanghai, and then the bleakness of the internment camps the various characters must survive in.
Historical fidelity to the early 1940s is adhered to strongly. A scene where American P-51 Mustangs bomb a Japanese airfield use real-life Mustangs for the shots, using three of the few remaining flyable WWII planes left in the world in a visually spectacular fight sequence. And the film is a very movie-like movie too, enhancing the story with poetic realism at times. When the Japanese run out of food, they force the entire internment camp to march to another city, and they end up at a sports stadium whose entrance is an elaborate metal sculpture with figures of women and doves. Inside are hundreds of luxuries looted from Western homes, chandeliers and Louis XV furniture and automobiles all in a jumble of chaotic luxe together. In another scene, air pilots slowly drift down to earth under their parachutes in a way that makes them look like dandelion seeds. This film was a visual feast, sumptuously shot with great attention to detail.
I love great cinematography, and I love intelligent writing, but I don’t like when films only have one without the other. When they have both, I’m delighted, and this film has both. The acting was also fantastic. The film stars Christian Bale in one of his first film roles, and even at the tender age of 13 he had great acting chops, and he sold his role completely, acting with the talent and gravitas of a veteran actor. Paired with Spielberg’s vision and expert direction he shows the slow loss of innocence his character endures piercingly well. The supporting actors are all solid in their roles as well. There’s really nothing to complain of from this film, I was delighted and enthralled by it from beginning to end. I recommend it heartily. You can watch it here.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has been testing those traditional boundaries of Canadian politics, however — most notably with the Alberta Sovereignty Act, which was caused by many head explosions among the nation’s constitutional experts — to the point where some conservatives wish to disavow her. Conservatives understand and respect institutions and advance change incrementally within them, veteran conservative strategist Ken Boessenkool and the University of Alberta political scientist Jared Wesley wrote recently at The Line. Conservatives understand and respect institutions; they adhere to facts and expertise; they are “realists”; and they believe in limited government, both in size and in temperament. Boessenkool and Wesley argue that Smith, by contrast, “shows little understanding or respect for the rules and norms that guide our democracy”; nods to “health-care quackery,” “conspiracy theories” and “oddly Putinesque talking points on the invasion of Ukraine”; and has boosted spending and installed “the largest cabinet in the history of the province.” Edmonton lawyer and former UCP staffer Karamveer Lalh defended Smith’s defense, arguing that her “libertarian populism” is a perfectly good form of conservatism — and one Albertans should know from Ralph Klein's days. Smith’s belief in Alberta’s self-conception as a “freedom-loving province (that) has thrived by harnessing its natural resources and talents, only to be met with resentment and punishment from the envious power brokers in the Windsor–Quebec City corridor,” is enough to make her conservative, Lalh argues. It’s fairly academic concerning the upcoming Alberta election: On May 29 Albertans will elect either a UCP or NDP government, and many will hold their noses in the process. But it’s a very useful discussion that other Canadian jurisdictions (not least the government) need to have. Canada and its provinces are facing multiple crises — from health care to housing to military procurement — that have been co-authored over many decades by governments of different political stripes. Canadian conservatives are far more “virtually” conservative than “ideologically” conservative, as Boessenkool and Wesley argue of Albertans. But there’s a fine line between a “temperamentally” liberal (or “temperamentally” progressive) party and a tribe whose partisans will cheer on most anything that riles up the other tribes. This brings us naturally to the opposite of a stimulating and useful conversation, the antithesis of worthwhile consideration, debate, and inquiry. You’ll find it on the Public Broadcasted Alberta website. That’s right folks — roll up, roll up! — The Vote Compass is back, and it’s more offensive than ever. A CBC co-production with Vox Pop Labs, Vote Compass purports (per Vox Pop Labs CEO Clifton van der Linden) “to help people navigate the political landscape, and better understand how their views compare with those of the different parties.” There have been many editions at this point, for federal and provincial elections alike. Vote Compass matches underinformed voters with party talking points that appeal to them. Consider this all-time Vote Compass gem: “Sometimes freedom of speech must be limited.” Vote Compass asks: “No law-abiding Albertan should be prohibited from owning a gun.” Any guns? No party supports that … yet Vote Compass has the UCP at “strongly agree.” Another great one: “How high should the minimum wage be?” Indeed, Vote Compass strikes me as a symptom of another crisis that successive governments of different stripes have ignored: the giant incoherent mess that is the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s current mandate. CBC’s political journalists do lots of great work, only to have this stupid thing pop up and mock the very notion of honest, intense policy debate. It’s the exact opposite of what a public broadcaster should be doing … and CBC keeps doing it, election after election after election, with no end in sight except perhaps prime minister Pierre Poilievre shutting down the whole operation.
