Fall For Me (Poly! Sleep Token x Fem! Reader) - Part I
Tumblr media
Well, it happened... After trying to evade the hype for so long they finally got me 😂😂 This story has had me in a chokehold (haha, get it?) since I started toying around with the idea of it. Hopefully you guys enjoy it, let me know if you'd like to be added to the tag list for future chapters and/or Sleep Token one shots!
WARNINGS: None
Part II
My Masterlist! ~ AO3 Link!
Credit to @spookyghostjelly for beta reading, ily bb 💗💗💗
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You sat with your feet propped up on the counter, one of the magazines you had yet to sell spread open on your lap. "Be fashion forward this fall." You read out loud to the empty store in a mocking tone as your eyes grazed over the pictures of chunky sweaters, jeans, and boring, brown leather boots. The bell over the door jingled as a customer entered the store, your eyes darted up, expecting one of your regulars. You were met with the sight of someone in a black sweatshirt with the hood pulled up over their head. 'Great,' you thought to yourself, 'just when I thought I was going to have an easy evening.' You watched the man carefully, waiting to see what exactly he was going to stick in his pockets. Now, you normally turn a blind eye to shoplifters up to a certain extent, everyone deserves to have something to eat. But, being an independently owned store you could only take so much of a loss on your inventory. To your surprise, the man didn't pick up a single item. He took his time looking over the contents of each shelf, his hands never leaving his sweatshirt pocket. "Can I help you find anything, sir?" His head turned slightly in your direction, but not enough for you to see his face.
"What time do you close?" You were caught off guard by his British accent, it was an uncommon occurrence to get outsiders in your small backwoods town.
"Eight o'clock." He nods his thanks and hurriedly exits your store, almost bumping into one of your regulars on the way out.
"Everything alright?" He asks as the strange visitor leaves your store.
"Do you know him?" You ask quietly, as if he would somehow be able to overhear you despite having rounded the corner of the building already.
"Yeah, he's one of those… those cultists that set up shop in the woods." He explains. You were a bit shocked at the realization. You had been seeing headlines in the local newspaper for months as curiosity rose around the small group of men that had built a few Cabins on the very edge of town. Reporters didn't dare venture into their camp for an interview, but that didn't stop them from snapping a few pictures from the safety of the treeline. Four cabins sat at each corner of a small clearing, a large fire pit dominated the center. From what you could make out they seemed to have some sort of root cellar and a lackluster garden, which would explain why you hadn't seen any of them in person until this afternoon. "You be careful, (Y/N). Freaks like that might just try to sacrifice you to some goat demon they worship." He warns. You can't help but roll your eyes at the outlandish statement.
"Mark, those boys haven't done a single thing to bother anyone since they got here. They've been out there for months, if they were going to take someone they would've done it by now." You argue.
He chuckles, "Trust me darlin', I hope you're right. But until then me and a lot of other folks around here plan on keeping a close eye on them. You'd do best to stay away from them."
"You think I can't take care of myself?" You challenge, raising an eyebrow at him.
"Now, Miss (Y/N), you and I both know you'd beat my ass to next Sunday if that's what I was implying." The two of you shared a laugh. "I just don't want something bad to happen, that's all. These strange men show up out of nowhere one day and no one knows where they came from, hell none of us have ever seen their faces. They all wear these black masks, least that's what the reports are saying. You can never be too cautious."
"I'll take my chances." You smile politely in an attempt to get him off his soap box. "Now, I take it you're here for your pack of Marlboros."
"Yes ma'am, and an extra one for Donnie if you don't mind." He responds with a nod as he fumbles for his wallet in his back pocket.
"You got it boss." The rest of your evening was spent rather uneventfully, save for the fact that you would practically jump out of your chair every time the door opened. You glanced up at the clock, there was about twenty minutes left until you closed. "Maybe he decided to not come back." You shrug. Moments later an old, beat up pick up truck rumbled into the parking lot. You watched as the driver got out, his head dipped low to hide his face in the hood of his black sweatshirt. He pushes through the door, the jingle of the bell the only sound to cut through the tense silence. "Welcome back." You tried to sound friendly despite your unease. He nods at you in response, not saying a single word as he makes his way quickly and directly to everything he needs. He approaches the counter, unloading his arm load of supplies before taking a step back. "You got a name to go with those big, broad shoulders of yours?" You ask in a bit of a teasing tone, trying to do what you could to lighten the mood. He remained silent, despite the fact you couldn't see his face you couldn't escape the feeling of his piercing gaze. You opened a bag, carefully organizing his contents inside. "$18.75, sir." He slaps a twenty dollar bill on the counter, not even waiting for his change as he grabs his bag and flits out the door. You watched as he drove off, not sure exactly what you were supposed to make of that interaction. You had a similar occurrence every day for almost a week. He would come in, grab an armful of groceries, put down his money, and he left. You would try and greet him whenever he would come in your store, it was always met with a curt nod.
"Vessel." You froze as he finally spoke up. You looked up, your eyes met with 6 slits on an odd looking mask. "You can call me Vessel." You couldn't think of how to respond at first. He had barely acknowledged your existence before tonight, what had changed?
"Vessel… (Y/N)." You stick out your hand to shake his. "It's nice to finally meet you." You smile as his hands clap into yours.
"You're different from the other people we've run into from town." He remarks.
"The reporters?"
"Some of them, a few others we just happened to cross paths with." You could feel him studying you. "You don't seem scared."
"Vessel, you've been coming in here for over a week now. If you were going to try and hurt me you would've done it by now." You notice the corner of his mouth quirk up in a smile.
"I guess you have a point." He chuckles. You finish scanning his items and give him his total. He places the money down on the counter and picks up his bag.
"How come you never take your change?" You ask as he's almost out the door.
"I know you run this place by yourself, think of it as me tipping a small business." He flashes a brief, brilliant smile at you. You try to hide your shy smile by fixing up your register. "Oh, and (Y/N)?" You glance back up at him. "It's nice to finally meet you too."
Which Primarchs committed tax fraud?
Lorgar claimed tax exempt status as a church. Cited a law from the Age of Strife, rejected after lengthy legal proceedings. Definitely did not instigate the Heresy to avoid paying his substantial fines.
Tumblr media
Sanguinius filled his form wrong. He managed to charm the investigating officer into allowing him to resubmit, but failed to file on the ground that he was murdered by Horus. A small percentage of Blood Angels are, to this day, afflicted with anxiety over an unfiled return.
Tumblr media
Roboute Guilliman 100% knows how to commit tax fraud, and how to get away with it. Of course he does. He's the tax man (Ultramar regional office). Hates Magnus for reasons we'll get to.
Tumblr media
Jaghatai Khan neither knows nor cares what taxes are. The Imperial Revenue took years to track down his address, and after several final demands an investigator visited only to find a lone postbox 300 miles from anywhere, half buried in unopened mail.
Tumblr media
Perturabo failed to declare assets 'inherited' from Ferrus Manus and is currently awaiting a trial date.
Tumblr media
Ferrus Manus has been given dispensation to defer his return for the tax year on the following grounds:
Being dead.
Tumblr media
Lion El'Johnson swears he knows how to commit tax fraud but simply never would. He's lying. He has no idea but would rather walk naked into the Warp than admit it.
Tumblr media
Vulkan keeps fastidious notes through the year which makes him very popular with his accountants. They try to convince him to expense his Drakeskin cloaks but he refuses as he wears them recreationally (despite the Salamander's 'business logo') and doesn't want to get into trouble.
Tumblr media
Fulgrim completed his return, he really did, but it wasn't right. Currently on his cogitator is 'Tax Return 3 FINAL (FINAL!!).tax' unsent.
Tumblr media
Leman Russ vaguely understands that tax is a thing. Thus far nobody can decide if the Space Wolves mix of raucous hospitality and space Viking intimidation towards investigators is a concerted effort to avoid paying or if they're just like that.
Tumblr media
Magnus has all the documentation to prove that he's paid. It's all right there. It makes absolutely no sense and somehow he's owed money? Guilliman is convinced he's full of it but hasn't been able to prove it and is quietly seething.
Tumblr media
Rogal Dorn pays in full and fully hates anyone who doesn't. He grumbles about it to anyone who will listen, usually within earshot of anyone he suspects isn't paying his way. Magnus & Conrad vocally agree with him. Guilliman leaves the room before he says something he'll regret.
Tumblr media
Alpharius definitely submitted a return. Nothing about it looks right, all the numbers are estimates, all the assets are in some kind of code but somehow it's already been stamped as accepted.
Tumblr media
Konrad Curze also vocally hates anyone who doesn't pay up. Secretly he hasn't paid in years. He is beyond the pretty laws of 'taxes' and with everyone focused on Lorgar, Perturabo and Magnus he's just slipped through the cracks, which he has taken as a silent endorsement.
Tumblr media
Corvus Corax wants to pay tax. He’s tried to pay tax. He’s sent several returns to the Imperial Revenue and still they haven’t taken the money. He’s beginning to get worried. He needn’t be. They have quite simply forgotten he exists and it's gone on too long for them to admit their mistake.
Tumblr media
Mortarion pays but hates everything about it. He thinks it's a personal slight and is convinced he is paying more than everyone else. He's right. This makes his whining no less annoying.
Tumblr media
Angron had taxes explained to him once and ol' Rusty's sacrifice is why Imperial Revenue officers can wear jeans on Fridays. Since then the IR has practiced a bold 'hands off' approach with the World Eaters, proving that violence is sometimes an answer.
Tumblr media
Horus absolutely pays his taxes. In Horusbux: A currency of his own devising. Lorgar attempted to trick Horus into a ponzi scheme, now all of his money is in Horusbux and he has no idea how it happened. Horus keeps on promising everyone massive returns, usually from the deck of his waryacht, the Live Forever II.
Next Chapter
Tumblr media
He huddled up in his room, his alarm blaring for what felt like hours even after he woke up. He couldn't sleep and he refused to clock into work unless the nausea he felt dissipated. He could feel tears well into the corner of his eyes, threatening to spill over if he so much as inhaled deeply. He got up anyway, his right leg aching as he did. He grabbed his cane and made his way to his bathroom, hobbling slowly to his sink and flipping the light switch. Light washed over him. He looked pale and sick. He was sick but he didn't want to acknowledge it. He made quick business of washing his face and brushing his teeth. His leg began to act up and he had to give himself a moment to compose himself before leaving his tiny bathroom.
He made a quick breakfast, eggs with sausage and beans. He was going to grab his instant coffee from his pantry when he noticed the container was empty. He cursed under his breath and began shoveling his food down his throat before making his way to his bedroom. He clocked into work and began getting dressed. He had no meetings or urgent assignments so he left his apartment to buy his favorite coffee and other things he needed. It would be quick, he already knew where everything was at so there was no reason to take long.
He walked out of his apartment, heading to his car in jeans and a long-sleeved shirt that accentuated his body. He threw his car door open, throwing his cane into the back seat before he sat into the drivers seat and buckled himself in. He gave himself a moment, the feeling of pedals under his feet and the steering wheel in his hands brought back memories that he would rather forget. He turned the ignition on and made his way to the supermarket closest to his home.
When he arrived, he made sure to park as far away from the entrance as possible. He had a tag that would let him park in the handicapped spots but he refused to use it. Part of him knew he was just sabotaging himself but the other part of him, the one that was too prideful, wouldn't let him have it "easy". He made his way to the front of the store and grabbed a shopping cart. He started with the produce as he needed more tomatoes for a recipe he was thinking of making. He made his way down the aisles, doing his best to ignore other shoppers as he didn't want to make conversation or eye contact.
He always felt alien outside of his home. He knows his features arent pleasant and he does his best to hide as much as he can considering he tends to tower over the average person. His hairline scar, the scar on his cheek, on his nose, the one on his mouth. He knows he isn't winning any beauty contests soon and it irritated him just how unnatural he looked. He wished there was a cure all for his issues. Maybe then he wouldn't feel like shit in the mornings or when he went to bed.
As he made it down the coffee isle, he realized that he wasn't the only one looking for something in the isle. There, one the instant coffee section, was you. You were looking in the bottom shelf to see what cheap coffee would be good enough to drink but also fit in your budget. You were willing and happy to sacrifice taste if it meant it had enough caffeine to get you through the next month.
Titus watched as you looked at the limited options, hoping you’d move soon but that didn’t happen. He sucked it up and walked over hoping you’d move soon were to engrossed in coffee to pay him attention. He looked for his usual go too, a medium roast that wasn’t too heavy on his stomach. He grabbed it, thinking about getting another bag so he wouldn’t have to repeat this trip anytime soon. As he did, you jutted up, pumping into his arm with your head.
“Ouch, sorry, sorry.” You apologized. You got excited when you noticed one of the items had a sale and grabbed it without looking if someone else was near you.
“It’s alright.” He murmured. You rubbed your head and looked up at the man before going wide eyed.
He knew that look already. You were scared and uncomfortable. Everyone looked at him that way. His scars were ugly and they made him look deformed. He averted his gaze from your own and grabbed his items ready to leave but you spoke.
“Cool scars, man.” It wasn’t in exclamation like some people would say it, nor was it in the fake awe some people would do. It was a comment. Just a comment. Like the scars weren’t ugly and contrasted on his skin. Titus blinked to himself before turning around again and starring at you but you were gone. That was his first time ever meeting you.
The next time he saw you was a few weeks after. You were rummaging in your pockets for something all while debating if you should grab ice cream. He only wanted to grab some of the frozen meals he usually got when he was too lazy to cook so he walked past you to grab it. You had noticed him but didn’t acknowledge him. You thought you had made him uncomfortable with the comment you made last time about his appearance. You scanned the shelf seeing if anything looked good but nothing interested you. You turned, heading to the front of the store when Titus noticed you walking away. He wasn’t someone to do impulsive decisions nor was he the type to try and socialize, but your oddly friendly demeanor had interested him.
He grabbed two of the ice cream he liked and hastily walked over to the self checkout counter. He scanned his items quickly, eyeing if you had left the parking lot. Once the receipt printed he all but ran over to you. You were waiting at a bus stop with one of your earbuds out in. You couldn’t hear much of anything but you were surprised when the sun was completely blocked out by the hulking figure in front of you. A small oce cream container as presented to you by the man you had briefly seen in the store.
“I… I wanted…. I got this for you.” Titus panted. His leg was killing him and the muscles felt like they were on fire. He tried to not make his discomfort obvious but he’s sure he’s wincing.
You accepted the container and thank him. It was bizarre but a welcoming surprise to say the least. Free ice cream was always a good thing.
“Thank you, stranger.” You watched as he left back towards the parking lot noticing a slight limp present in his walk.
You wondered why he had bothered to gift you the container. It wasn’t like you’ve been particularly welcoming or nice to him.
As you contemplated the reasons why he would do this, your bus arrives and you get on without glancing back to look for the stranger. You made yourself comfortable in the back seat and internally cheered at the fact you had a sweet treat to indulge in after work. Maybe you should be nicer to more strangers.
🚨Spoilers for episode 5 of X-men’97🚨
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT HUUUHHUUHH I KNEW IT WAS GOING TO BE A GAMBIT EPISODE BECAUSE OF THE TITLE BUT WHAT IS HAPPENING what too much that’s for sure. Jean? Logan? Scott? Erik? Cable?!Rogue?!? GAMBIT?!?! I’m tweaking so bad I can’t. Well first off I loved the episode but I’m also going a little insane. IS HE DEAD?!? He can’t be dead, that just can’t happen, wake up Gambit. Is sacrifice was awesome but after all the Rogue and Gambit stuff that happened this episode? Wellll they did say that they were just going to be friends because MAGNETO WANTS TO GET MARRIED but erm it was still clear that after the dance with her and Magneto that she does NOT have feelings for him and is rather just torn because she has feelings for Gambit but can only touch Erik. AUGAHAHS AND THAT SPEECH SHE GAVE?!? Well it wasn’t really a speech but the conversation between her and Gambit, that was crazy. Nightcrawler being my man and helping us Rogue and Gambit shippers out but it’s sad we didn’t get much of her and Nightcrawler. Okay okayyyy so at least we’re not getting Rogue and Magneto because of the end of the dance “some things are deeper than skin” AUSFHAHEYGAHAGGAHAYGSHAJ Erik, hate to be like this, but it lowkey feels like he’s manipulating Rogue due to the fact that she can only touch him and he’s using that to get her to himself. Alsoooo I guess he’s just given up on his dead wife lol and I never thought he loved her I just kinda thought he was using the sexy 20 somethin yo because she hawt and all but I guess we’re jumping straight to the L word lol. AUSFHAHSGA Remy please don’t be goneeee, you can’t be, you can’t just do that, I mean we already got Xavier (well kinda) at least he has his spirit with em and is in space with his space soulmate or whatever. Erm oh yeah Erik might also be dead butttt…. That’s not really what I’m worried about. LOGAN AND JEAN WHAT ATE YOU DOING, I look away from my happy little married couple for 3 minutes and they’re off doing this, then the minute I look back to Rogue and Gambit HES DEAD. They goin craaazy right now and I don’t know how to handle it. I’m shaking, screaming, tweaking and all of the above. Okay let’s get the list of things we can celebrate about
-Rogue definitely doesn’t have feelings for Magneto (nice nice haha)
-Rogue has feelings for Gambit but is just very conflicted because she can’t touch him (TOO BAD HES DEAD)
-And lastly this is the Marvel universe and death is never the end soooo (but even if he is dead that’s a pretty sick way to go)
I guess I’ll just be going crazy until the next episode. If you guys have any thoughts or theories please share because without new thoughts of hope my mind will explode
mori glanced over to his left, noticing the sudden change in demeanor from yn who was just giggling over mr. alec’s reaction to his ‘friend’ surprising him outside of his class for a ‘friendly hangout’. “something happen?”
the mild concern spreading across yn’s features quickly diminished when she turned off her phone, tucking it away in the back pocket of her jeans. “no. everything’s fine. everything will be fine.” she reassured– though it sounded like she was reassuring herself more than mori. “tets is on his way to pick me up, so I’m gonna have to raincheck going to your dorm tonight mori, sorryyy.”
“don’t worry about it!” mori chirped, an arm slinging around the girl’s shoulders. “just means that you’re making dinner for us next time.”
“if you want overcooked dino nuggets for dinner again. then, yeah.” rin teased, laughing to himself at the memory of yn forgetting to take the metal tray out of the oven because somehow she managed to lock herself out of mori’s dorm room and couldn’t get back in until 7 minutes after the kitchen timer alerted the food was ready.
yn rolled her eyes, nudging the boy’s side with her elbow. “as if you weren’t the one refusing to open the door for me.”
“I was working on a project!” rin defended.
mori raised a brow, recalling the night of the topic. “oh? I didn’t know taking a nap with my dog was part of your project.”
taking rin’s silence as a sign of defeat, yn grinned in triumph. “never belittle my cooking skills!”
“yeah okay. opening a bag of pre-made dino nuggets and popping them into the oven isn’t necessarily cooking.”
yn cupped her ear, leaning closer to the grumbling cinematography major “’m sorry, what was that? can’t really understand what sounds like…like…” she shared a knowing look with mori who was already giggling to himself. “like BULLSHIT right now!”
the sudden stop in rin’s footsteps threw the two into a frenzy, clutching their stomachs as their laughter bounced about throughout the halls.
“I think he’s mad!” mori managed to squeeze in between laughs.
taking a deep breath, rin gave his friends a menacing smile.“i’m going to be generous and give you giggling neanderthals a five-minute start before I catch you and commit unspeakable crimes.”
yn let out an excited squeal, feeling like a little kid as she grabbed mori’s arm and began to run to the building’s exit. “don’t let him catch you!” she exclaimed, steps quickening as the two made their way down the stairs, careful not to trip.
“I hear him, he’s coming!” mori cried, navigating through the various turns they had to make before finally bursting through the art building’s doors.
just as he was about to make a successful escape, he was pulled back by the thundering drummer. “leaving so soon, pretty boy?”
“noooooo!!! we were so close!” yn shrieked, “please, take me instead!” but her pleas went deaf to rin’s ears who only smirked in victory.
“now, now, no need for any sacrifices.” he kept his hold on mori’s wrist, unknowingly silencing the sandy blond whose heart seemed to run numerous laps inside his chest. “a win is a win.”
yn scoffed, waving off the loss. “whatever.”
the three make their way to the parking lot, patiently waiting for tetsurou to arrive. when he does, mori and rin watch as yn gets into the car, saying their goodbyes before also taking their leave.
“hey, kuroo.” tetsu smiles, messing up his sister’s hair and earning a groan as she puts on her seatbelt. “how was class?”
yn makes herself comfortable, prepping her mind for whatever her brother was about to follow up with. “suppeerrr funsies, tets. did you just come from the gym?”
“yeah, had to drop off kou before picking you up.” yn hums. her mind starting to fill up with possibilities of what the conversation might develop into. as if tetsu could see right through her, he began to ask what had been plaguing his mind for the past few days. “so…anything you wanna tell me? ya know cause i’m your brother and I love you, and I would always want to know if something is wrong, and I am hoping you know you can trust me with anything and everything.”
“I know tets.” yn reassures, giving him an awkward smile which he turns to see for a brief second before turning his eyes back on the road in front of him.
“so spill, what’s up?”
“are you looking for a specific answer or…”
“no, just want you to be honest with me is all.”
the conversation yn had with her friends from the night they were all in her room, after the whole incident with kozume, revisited her thoughts.
“oh but guys,” yn spoke up, earning several hums. “you cannot let my brother know about any of this.” the request caused the friends to break away from the hug, confused as to why the only other person besides yn who could knock some sense into kozume couldn’t be informed of the situation. “it’s just… with the game coming up, I don’t want the team to turn to shit because one of the co-captains suddenly can’t cooperate with the main setter.”
mori clicked his tongue, feeling conflicted with yn’s choice. “okay… I understand where you’re coming from but what’re you gonna do when your brother does find out? I mean, he’s not dumb.”
“mori’s right.” rin chimed. “he might start getting suspicious with your change of attitude towards kozume and start piecing things together.”
she mentally cursed the accuracy of her friends– though already expecting her brother to notice something was wrong without her directly telling him because, obviously, he’s her brother.
“okay…,” yn knew it would be best to come clean to tetsu about the recent events, but she just couldn’t bear the guilt she would feel if she saw him and kozume suddenly start to get rocky before their first game of the year, especially after all the hard work the whole team has been putting in. “well i’m passing all my classes-”
“even chem?”
“even chem, tets. and I have this big project for my painting class, the one I just came out of, so i’m spending more time in there than usual. and…” yn tried to think of other things to catch her brother up on to hopefully ease his concern, but he beat her to it.
“why’d you skip chem and ela that one day with tooru?” the car stopped at a red light, allowing tetsurou to have more of his attention on yn.
‘quick, quick, quick-’ yn fidgeted with the straps of her bag, attempting to calm herself down. “oh you know, I was just really overwhelmed that morning.” ‘that wasn’t a total lie, please believe me.’ “with the project, my other classes, helping out with the band because of their gig, and cece with the shop, and the volleyball team, i’ve just been a bit busy and tooru wanted to help me relax.” once again, not a total lie. “don’t worry though, kozume- er koz uhm- i texted kozu while i was out and he said we had a sub and were just working on the previous day’s work which i already finished. so, it’s all good. all good.” now that was a lie.
the topic of kozume seemed to be what tetsurou was curious about because his face flashed with surprise, almost distracting him from the spotlight turning green. “oh. so… nothing is wrong with you and kozume?”
“why would there be anything wrong?”
“no its just,” his confusion was evidently clear, his other hand running through his hair as he tried to collect his thoughts. “last week tuesday with the apology and you telling me he kissed you, but when he got to practice he was barely talking to you which i just found really weird.”
“ohh, I mean I think we both know how shy he can get.” yn mumbled.
“yeah but,” tetsu clicked his tongue. yn was right, but he couldn’t get rid of the feeling that there was just more to uncover. “I guess I just expected him to be more bold after he literally kissed you. I mean you make it clear you like him, and there’s literally nothing stopping him from asking you out or something– and i’m sorry if i’m overstepping my boundaries since it isn’t technically my relationship, but it just rubs me the wrong way since I’m your brother and if something happens to you, it happens to me too. that’s just how it is.”
“so you’re saying…kozume kissed you too?”
tetsu rolled his eyes at his sister’s little joke, “oh shut up, you know that’s not what I mean. but there’s something else i’ve been thinking about. I noticed after you went out to go talk to kozume when he went to get some water, you didn’t come back. what happened? atsumu said you got-”
“NO! no! ahahaha no.” yn awkwardly laughed off her sudden outburst, mentally reminding herself to sucker punch the fake blonde the next time she saw him. “I just…got cramps. yeah, my period cramps hurt real baaaad.” she dragged out the word, wanting to emphasize the lie. “like I started crying, kind of bad. I had to ask cece to pick me up. sorry I didn’t tell anyone before leaving all of a sudden.”
seeing tetsurou’s features soften at the misfortune his little sister had to endure, yn finally relaxed knowing he was going to drop any further interrogation related to the one person she did not want to even think about. “aww what,” genuine concern laced his voice, making yn feel slightly ashamed for the string of deception. “is your cycle over now though? you should’ve texted me, I would’ve come by after practice and got you something.”
“I know, I know. i'm sorry, tets.”
“and if you’re really stressed, just let me know. the whole manager role was so abrupt. I wasn’t really thinking of how busy you already are with everything. I’m sorry, yn.”
hearing tetsu’s worry was equivalent to being stabbed a hundred times and then being lit on fire and then having the people who lit you on fire extinguish you only to stab you a few more hundred times. yn quickly tried to cheer him up, “its okay, tets! I wanted to do it, remember? I thought it would be fun and it is. getting to spend more time with you and everyone else has been a great way for me to unwind. I’m really glad you gave me this opportunity.”
tetsu sighed, thankful that he didn’t add to yn’s burdens. “If you need to work on other things tomorrow, just let me know. I'm sure kou and I can handle practice ourselves.”
laughing at the stubbornness, yn placed a comforting hand on his shoulder, squeezing it lightly. “no, I can make it. It’s okay, but thank you.”
“are you sure?”
yn smiled, her heart warming at knowing how much her brother looked after her. “yeah, i’m sure tetsu.”
I dont know how many of you will agree with this, but recently I had a realisation about Kevin. lt could be broken down to 3 phases:
The first is that Kevin is existing in very extreme emotional states - he either completely removes his emotions and as such vulnerability from a situation, or he goes all in reactive, which ends up with him being extremely dominant and agressive in his expression. The in between only happens when he is in the process of bouncing from one to the other.
Here is why I think he acts as such: as a kid, he had to really moderate how he expressed himself and constantly adapted to the situation. He had to be the golden child for the cameras, he had to be unfallible as an athlete due to his legacy, at the same time, he had to be submissive and lesser than for Riko and Tetsuji. Since most of the attention he got was both very keen and very dominant while emotionally removed (I wonder how much actual prize he got for normal things), it created a deeply rooted fear of honesty. It would be pretty natural for him to feel resentment at constantly not being the right thing, always lacking. As such, he became ultimately dishonest in his expression, which makes him repellant to opening up and being vulnerable in relationships. I used to think most of his dishonesty stemmed from fear because the truths he knew were very delicate and dangerous, but I am wondering if it wasn't born out of this deeper feeling of inadequacy. As a result, the Kevin we meet is used to fitting into someone else's ideas, and that's because he feels like every relationship is based on him GIVING them something of himself. Every one, not just the one with Riko. Living is a sacrifice of self for him, and he will end up, willingly or not, molding himself into whatever he feels he has to give away. When he asks for Wymack to take him in, when he makes the deal woth Andrew, when he wants Neil to believe in a future, when he drops all conctact with Thea, or Jean, after leaving the ravens. He feels like it's expected of him to be what others want to see him as and not what he wants to be. He can't be both of those things at once, so he is what they want or nothing at all. Just think of his attachment to the number two on his cheek and the meltdown that accompanied him, finally choosing to stand up for himself. To finally choose to come into his own identity.
That mechanism would lead from the beginning to him being very removed from his own wants in order to protect them. So, after a while, he would lose his sense of self. Which is funny, because that would lead to him having to relearn it through first finding the negative image of his preferences and his true self, like when capturing a scene in traditional photography.
As such, he is able to pinpoint everything he hates, dislikes, doesn't want and agree with - because they are an immediate danger. But that doesn't immediately lead him to finding what he likes, what he wants or what he is.
And this is where it gets interesting. This behaviour would also be responsible for him feeling very secretive about everything he does find that he likes and enjoys. For example history, if someone made it into a adressed thing, that he likes history, it would feel like he lost that interest, for the sole reason it's not just his anymore. You with me? Not in general, but in a personal relationship. That's why he is so annoyed at people not being good enough for his standards at exy but also not being excited at them caring or trying to meet them, only more and more critical even when he is totally having fun and excited about this.
The fact that even his interest in something like history could be demonized isba pretty common protection mechnaism. That's because when we shelter ourselves by pretending to not exist we are completely vulnerable when that illusion drops. It makes sense that he keeps everyone and everything at an arm's length with his cold and biting demeanour. Feeling like every person is a threat to who he is explains how screwed up almost all of his relationships are.
Devastation.
Jean feels a burning sensation in his chest. He watches Kevin shift the club from one hand to the other, as he walks in front, and all the cameras capture his face. A face that no longer has numbers on it. Moreau falls, he flies down, dissolves into the abyss and drowns. The feeling of betrayal does not leave his stomach, it remains in his shackled body and grows more and more. It crushes and kills.
Jean knew that Kevin didn't care, he knew that this would be the end of it. After all, what's the point of leaving a meaningless number on your cheek and living with it? Jean touched his tattoo, he knew where it was, although he could not see himself in the reflection. He could feel her physically. Once, when he was only fifteen years old, Rico cut a three-piece on Jean's cheek with a knife. Now the tattoo hid the scar, but it still hurt.
Once there were three of them. Rico, Kevin and Jean. The first, second and third. The perfect court. But despite this, Jean felt the distance between them, the loneliness that gripped and killed him. No matter how hard he tries, he will never become like Rico or Kevin. The tattoo on his cheek made him feel closer to them. Kevin.
Even in the nest, he could reach out and touch the place where the ink was eating into the skin, and then it seemed to him that this day was near. He came back and hugged Moreau. It seemed to Jean that in this way he was no longer alone.
But Kevin dumped him, then and now. Kevin killed him no less than Rico, it's just that the wounds from Moriyama's knife were physical, they were visible. Kevin beat so hard that Jean sometimes got confused in these wounds himself.
Moreau hugged himself by the shoulders, he sat for so long, until the very end, until Rico loomed over Nathaniel. Jean reached out her hand, but he couldn't reach the guy. He couldn't stop it. He couldn't sacrifice himself and put himself in danger again, he was too far away from Rico.
Rico fell to his knees, Jean could hear laughter coming out of his mouth. He watched the tears running down Rico's cheeks. He stared for so long that he started crying himself. He threw the TV hard, smashing everything his hands could reach, and sat down on the floor. The whole world was falling apart. Jean closed his eyes, but he still saw Rico and Kevin in front of him. After all, they were always in the same boat. Despite the uncontrollable cruelty and pain, Jean knew what he was worth, knew what he was needed for.
He didn't have that right now. All he had was an eternal number on his left cheekbone, a brand. He held out his hand in front of him, imagining that Kevin was able to materialize in front of him. He hoped for a miracle, but no miracle happened.
In truth, Jean always knew he would be lonely, but now it has become even more obvious. The only thing that pleased him at that moment was the thought of Kevin Day, who finally proved to the whole world that he was number one in exy. Moreau wanted to touch him, to hug him. I wanted to be closer and never let go. She could still feel that pleasant breath on her neck, those soft lips. He barely restrained himself from slapping himself.
No matter how many years have passed, Kevin will always be Jean's only wish. An unattainable desire.
I came down with poisoning and now that's all I can write at all. I wanted to write something about them so much that I even cried from weakness.
On the Scale of 1 to a Villain's Circus themed torture chamber, the amount of unnecessary, painful and contradictory loops taken by the retcon for Nightcrawler's origins goes beyond that limit. Because Azazel cannot do a single takeover without Nightcrawler existing as both his biological child and a mutant with his exact teleportation abilities. You remove any of those things and Azazel's plans can't come to fruition whatsoever (he really needed him for both a possible one on earth and the one in Heaven). So literally making sure Nightcrawler or someone like him doesn't exist would have made none of Azazel's takeovers happen (which is easy because none of Azazel's other bio kids have his powers or even look that much like him and Kurt was literally the only one that did)... It also doesn't help that every time Nightcrawler did stop Azazel, he needed his blood ties to him to pull it off (no really, every magic seal required his blood to work). To even be part of the first takeover and "stop it", Nightcrawler had to be related to Azazel too because Azazel had to bring all of his children in one place which was easy because he has mindcontrol powers that only work on them. To pull the Heaven one, Azazel used Nightcrawler's soul (which he is tied to as his father) to pull himself up there and he found him right away because he has a passive ability that helps him know where his children are (and who is his bio child too, it keeps him from accidentally thinking someone is his child when they're not and has always worked). The icing on the stupid cake is, Azazel is just a mutant, who was even on Krakoa since before the laws were made there and they only allowed mutants back then. The last time Nightcrawler stoped him, he put a power nullifier on him... And it was all over. He would have went to Rikers island and be sentenced if he didn't break out of his transport vehicle and Mystique didn't give him a job
And then you have Mystique and Destiny's first canon X-Men story which is Days of Future Past where, after they assassinated Senator Kelly, they created a dystopian future for mutants that has them near extinct... And Nightcrawler is one of the first to die in it, right after Kelly's assassination actually. He also already died in 616 protecting Hope Summers and stayed as such for years while they were ready to sacrifice baby Hope to save Rogue right after M-Day, which would have doomed Mutants. Then you have Age of Apocalypse where Mystique raised Nightcrawler since birth and did it all as a single mom after picking his father for his fuzz, where he never met Destiny until he was in his 30s and where Azazel never did a single takeover because a lot of other components were missing to pull it off (and you know, APOCALYPSE took over and killed almost everyone). Then you have Cardinal, a Chimera made from Nightcrawler's DNA (+ three other mutants) which makes Kurt Wagner his bio grandfather, who just looks like Azazel with red hair and red eyes so all of Azazel's traits were passed down in Kurt's family line. Then you have the fact any of Azazel's takeovers happen years after Destiny dies in 616 (they would have taken much longer if Nightcrawler didn't exist, if not never happened at all) yet she appears in the vision of his takeover. Then you have characters like Doctor Doom, Jean Grey and the Scarlet Witch as part of the people Azazel managed to defeat (Scarlet Witch depowered 99% of mutants with a few words and can scramble powers on a whim in an average day, enough said). Then you have the fact the only reason Azazel is even on Earth is thanks to Margali Szardos getting him there so literally convincing her not to do that would have meant Azazel would not be at the point he was in 616 (the retcon has it that Destiny made a deal with Margali to KIDNAP Nightcrawler from the spot Mystique left him at under a tree in a SNOWY forest, since she never threw him to his death to save her own skin in this take even tho Azazel remember that happening), ...
Unnecessary loopholes doesn't cover it : We're on an essay's length in tomfoolery
TL;DR - The X-Men's Nightcrawler has a very complicated backstory. Efforts to retcon and streamline his origins have been clumsy.
No offense to readers out there who are fans of Azazel, but the best option moving forward might be for the X-men comics to never mention him again and just move forward.
Mainly a post about levihan but I have tried imagining different scenarios wherein Hange did not have to die, where an ending involved them… looking back though, knowing what they're up against, risking any titan shifter really is not an option for the team… they could just not lose any of them to have a big chance of winning against Eren and stopping the rumble. Many have been saying why couldn't it be Jean that battled the wall colossal titans? While it is true he is told to be exemplary at using ODM gear among his class, our Captain Commander Hange would not be able to bear to sacrifice yet another life of their subordinate. I just could not imagine how greatly it would break Hange's heart and will had they deliberately ordered Jean to do so.
This feat, however, was viewed by many as Hange's suicide rather than a sacrifice… both are true whichever way one would put it.
It is a sacrifice for those of their team to not have a heavy burden to carry on their shoulders to decide who will be left behind, because let's face it, then and there all of them knew that in order to delay the wall colossal titans' movement, one of them should and will be left behind. It was a cold, sad, gruesome fact that I believe Hange did not want any of them to live through. BUT, I also saw it as their way out.
They were just tired… the whole truth that unraveled was so disappointing, I was actually surprised they were able to keep such a composure that made them last until Chapter 132. I can only imagine how dumbfounded Hange was when they have learned that titans are once humans, and that the one person they protected and believed to be a new hope would now be the exact opposite. It was heartbreaking… their appointment as the 14th Captain Commander could also not have come at a worse time, and it was actually relatable in a sense where we were somehow forced to have responsibilities at a young age that we did not fully understand. They saw the opportunity. They grabbed it…
But let's delve in with how the conversation went with Levi. Shinzou sasageyo-- spoken only once by the Heichou, but how powerful and cinematic was it to have him speak those words to the only person he has left at such a time. Oh but I knew that Hange knew if Levi stopped them from going, they would have second thoughts. What once an unbreakable commitment to die will be easily thrown out if only Levi said "Stay." consequently telling him to just let them go.
Isayama would not waste 3 panels showing emotions through Levi's eyes before telling Hange to dedicate their heart if the latter was not important to the captain, and what a beautiful moment it was~ I will be forever grateful to Isayama for not cutting short on that moment, for taking the time to draw those 3 panels of Levi's eyes, and Hange's panel showing astonishment, for letting Levi call Hange "Four eyes" for the last time. That moment was excruciatingly heartbreaking, but it was perfect in its own way… because it was not ~cut short~, and to choose to say "See you later, Hange. Please watch over me." instead of goodbye was so symbolic of the love Levi had to let go but did not want to.
Personally, I do not see Levi and Hange as a romantic couple, but more of platonic soulmates, comparable to one's bestfriend whom you can call at 2 in the morning asking if they believe in God, and the one you would give a handmade bracelet and would not be embarrassed to wear it, that type of platonic relationship. It's difficult not to attest to LeviHan ship when Isayama created so many subtle but not meaningless encounters between the two. One great example was the forest scene right after Hange rescued Levi, and let us not forget their complementary eye injuries. Some may say that fans are ridiculously exagerrating the connections, and that we give too much meaning to scenes that happened just because they did, that they are only coincidences… but Isayama, the great artist that he is, would not make coincidences, especially reoccurring ones.
Upon landing in Riga, you had taken to the streets, following Zemo through the cobbled streets as he led you to the apartment he owned. You took to enjoying the city sights as you walked, but quickly realized that you would need more than jeans and a shirt if you were going to be here for the time being. The Baltic area was a lot colder than the Philippines.
Rubbing your exposed upper arms, you looked up at the nearest old building and let out a sigh. You were running out of chances and time hunting Karli down, and with each day that passed, it felt like the impossible job was getting that more impossible.
“I heard what became of Sokovia. Cannibalized by its neighbors before the land was cleared of rubble, erased from the map.” Zemo spoke up as he walked ahead of you, his own eyes scanning the buildings. “I don't suppose any of you bothered visiting the memorial?”
You had; you had spent plenty of time searching for survivors with the relief effort. Another time you had spent trying to keep yourself busy, so your mind didn’t turn on you. It had been a welcome break from news and technology, if only Sokovia’s destruction hadn’t had to happen for you to heal.
 “Of course not. Why would you?” Zemo sighed before coming to a stop in front of a set of beautifully decorated doors. “We are here.”
“I’m gonna go on a walk.” Bucky announced, shoving his hands in his pockets and taking a few steps back.
“You okay?” You asked him. Bucky gave you a chin nod.
“Yeah. I'll see you guys in a bit.” With that, Bucky turned around and walked back the way you had come.
“Come on,” Sam spoke, looking around. “I feel exposed.”
“You always say that.” You retorted before following Zemo into the building and up the stairs. The building was old, but beautifully built and decorated. You and Sam were led through another set of beautiful doors to a large and spacious apartment.
“Welcome, it’s not much, but it will do for now.” Zemo said as you closed the doors behind you and looked around. There was a kitchen, dining room, and living room all spread out in the spacious area, and several other closed doors that probably lead to bedrooms. You walked forwards and caught sight of a beautiful tub at the end of the room, sitting in a bathroom.
“Oh, I am so taking a bath in that tub.” You sighed out, looking forwards to a nice soak to sooth your aching muscles and chilled body. In the flight from Madripoor to Riga, you had gone from feeling feverish to having chills and just generally freezing your ass off. A nice soak should warm you right up, right?
“I am going to get cleaned up, please help yourself to anything you might find. I’m afraid there probably isn’t very much to be found here, no one has visited this place in years.” Zemo announced. Sam let out a hum before setting his eyes on you.
“Come on, Diana, lemme check that ear of yours.” Sam said, nodding his chin at a couch at the end of the area. Rolling your eyes, you followed him over to the leather couch and sank down on it, practically groaning in relief.
“Ohmygod this couch feels like heaven.” You breathed out, letting out a moan. Sam let out a chuckle as he pulled a chair over and sat down.
“Should I leave you and the couch alone for a little while?” You would have shot Sam a dirty look if you didn’t feel like you could fall asleep at any moment and sleep for the next couple of years.
“Oh, fuck off, Wilson,” You muttered instead, rubbing your forehead once more with a grimace. Your slight headache was still there.
“Alright, no need to get nasty, turn your head and I’ll get this done as soon as possible.” Sam said, raising an eyebrow.
“Gladly,” You said, shifting your head to the side so he had access to your left ear. He started with a few alcohol pads to clean up the dried blood, from there you started dozing off, choosing to rest your eyes.
Tumblr media
You were dead to the world until faint voices drew you from a deep slumber you really didn’t feel like pulling yourself from. Groaning, you rolled onto your back and opened your eyes… only to see a different ceiling than the one you remembered. Blinking, you forced yourself to sit up and looked around. Soft pink walls surrounded you with gold trim and filigree.
Across from the bed you had been passed out in, was a set of double doors. To the right an armoire and to the left a vanity and chair. Rubbing your cheek, you rolled to the left and slipped to your feet. Your feet met cold floor; your boots had been removed. Shifting on your bare feet, you blearily looked back to the closed doors and walked towards them.
Your hand twisted the doorknob, and you pushed the right door open, stumbling out of the bedroom and back into the open space of the apartment. You reached up and scratched your scalp, snagging your fingers through a few snares in your wild bedhead.
“Rise and shine, sleepyhead,” Sam called from the dining table. Wrinkling your nose at the nickname, you shuffled towards the table and let out a grunt. Sam’s eyes washed over you. “How ya feelin’? You konked out hard yesterday.”
Yesterday? Last you knew it was early afternoon… had you been asleep that long?
“V’got a headache,” You mumbled while moving your fingers to your forehead and rubbing it. Your skin prickled and a shiver went up your spine. “And I’m still freezing.”
“Yeah, you still look pale,” Sam commented as you slumped down in a seat next to Bucky, who was scrolling through his phone. Sam walked over and ran the back of his fingers over your forehead. “But at least you don’t seem feverish anymore.”
You grunted.
“I could’ve told you that,” You muttered, leaning back in your seat and closing your eyes. “I just need some Advil, something warm to drink, and preferably something warmer than what I am wearing.”
“Nothing we can’t take care of here in Riga,” Zemo spoke up, walking over to the table with a teapot and several teacups on a tray. “Tea?”
You eyed the pink tea brewing, and the steady stream of vapor pouring from the spout.
“Yes, please,” While Zemo poured you a cup of swirling pink tea, Bucky scowled at his phone and rubbed his forehead. “What’s wrong now?”
“Don’t worry about it,” Bucky answered, lifting his eyes from his phone. You raised your eyebrow at him as you were handed the teacup full of floral tea. Raising it to your lips, you took in a deep whiff before sipping. The tea was instantly warming and just as floral as it smelled.
“Alright, what do you suppose I do then.” You asked. “Until you get your hands on the remaining vials, I’m not really needed.”
“For starters, you and I have an errand to run after you finish your tea.” Zemo said, pouring more cups of tea.
“Woah, hold up… Who said anything about you running errands?” Sam questioned, giving Zemo a look. The scent of hostility filled floated into your nose, and instantly your headache worsened. You needed a break from the three baring their teeth at each other. It was already a wonder that no fights had broken out between them in the weeks you had spent together. Alphas just didn’t mix well; far to territorial.
“Diana needs more than just jeans and a shirt to wear, she’ll freeze, and I can’t have that.” Zemo announced as he swung his coat around his shoulders. “Also, I owe her a pair of shoes.”
“You owe her a pair of shoes?” Sam questioned; disbelief clear in his voice. You snorted underneath your breath and took another gulp of tea. Leave it to Zemo to be serious about replacing the heels you had to ditch in Madripoor. Hardly practical in this weather and for your mission, but if he felt inclined…
“They were nice shoes…” Zemo answered with a shrug.
“Look, I’m not running around Riga freezing my ass off, okay?” You spoke up, giving both Sam and Bucky a look. “Take this as a chance to go scouting or something, will you? I need an afternoon that isn’t laced with alpha pheromones trying to compete. The tension between the three of you is giving me a headache… and I already have one!”
“Fine, but you try anything…” Sam’s warning was left open ended as he pointed at Zemo. Zemo held his hands with a subtle smile on his face.
“I will give Diana the upmost respect, as she deserves. You have my word.” Sam didn’t look convinced, and Bucky was now giving Zemo his glare of death. Zemo turned his eyes on you, and you froze in place. “Or do you think I will try to harm you in anyway, Diana?”
You shivered at the look in his eye and felt your cheeks slowly heating up. Memories of that stolen kiss on the flight here quickly surfaced in your mind. No one had ever kissed you like that, not that you had a lot of experience in the first place… but Zemo kissed with passion that coerced you into feeling alive once more. It almost made you want to— the look on his face told you he knew exactly what you were thinking about in this moment, and you quickly felt fire burn across your cheeks. Floundering for a few seconds, you tore your eyes from his burning gaze to look anywhere but at him.
“Of course not,” You muttered, deciding that your tea was interesting and needed one hundred percent of your attention. A lovely pink color it was, and the smell, so nice… you could practically feel his silent laughter.
“You better,” Sam threatened before launching himself into a tirade of dos and don’ts while you were out. You took this time to quickly finish your tea and hunt down your shoes and socks. You found them next to the sofa you had been laying on before falling asleep and sitting down, you quickly pulled your socks on and slipped your feet into your shoes. “And Diana, did you spill that bottle of omega perfume on yourself or something? You smell like one again.”
Looking up from where you were tying your laces, you shot Sam a dirty look.
“I am not that clumsy!” You hissed at him before raising your arm and sniffing your skin. Damn, he was right. You did smell like an omega again… you hadn’t played around with the bottle, and as far as you knew, it hadn’t spilled or leaked… but the scent in the air was that of an omega, so you couldn’t refute the fact.
“Who cares what Diana smells like, right now we need to focus on finding Karli.” Bucky said, stepping in.
“Uh, Diana cares what Diana smells like!” You spoke up, shooting Bucky a look. “I don’t want to get harassed by Alpha’s who think I’m free game!”
“Okay, okay, it’s not a big deal, it’s just distracting,” Sam said, stepping between you and Bucky’s glare fest. “Just don’t wander off, we know you can take care of yourself, but if you are with one of us, you’ll be okay.”
You sighed and clicked your tongue in annoyance. It was an unavoidable obstacle you would just have to deal with until you got your hands on your scent busting soap.
“Okay, fine,” You responded before rubbing your hand on your jeans. “Now, if you boys are done playing big brother and reading Zemo the riot act, I’d really like to get some fresh air and warmer clothes.”
“We’ll be around, just call us,” Sam finally huffed. You shuffled past a brooding Bucky and Sam, who was giving Zemo one of his stern looks. Approaching Zemo, you kept your eyes glued to the floor as you passed him, not daring to raise them to meet his while you were in the presence of Bucky and Sam. You followed Zemo out the building, hoping that whatever was going on between you would quickly fade before either man caught wind. Or scent.
Tumblr media
You stared at yourself in the changing room mirror, wondering what the hell you were doing in this designer boutique wearing a plum jumpsuit with a cinch below the voluptuous v-neckline that cost over a thousand euros. You couldn’t lie to yourself, you looked good wearing it, and the plain black heels the attendant had shoved on your feet only made your legs look even longer.
“Diana, you’ve been in there for five minutes,” Zemo’s voice called. Huffing, you twisted on the Christian Louboutin black pumps you wore and stepped down from the podium to stalk out from the changing room. You walked out from behind the curtain and waltzed up to where Zemo was sitting, reading a book. Placing your hands on your hips, you stood squarely in front of him.
“This is a little excessive Zemo,” You announced. His brown eyes lifted from the pages he had been reading and met yours. His lips curved into that smile of his and he slowly closed the book in his hands.
“Excessive?” Zemo echoed, dropping his eyes from yours to give your body a more than adequate time of appreciation. You could feel his eyes raking over every inch you had to show, and your inner omega was practically preening with hope that he liked what he saw. “I think not, Draga.”
You tilted your head to the side and dropped your hands from your sides in defeat.
“I have no place wearing something as expensive and luxurious as this,” You responded with a dry look. “Especially when I can’t even afford to buy socks here. I’m pretty sure these shoes cost more than my washing machine back home…”
“Who said you were paying?” Zemo countered, raising his eyebrow. You scowled at him and crossed your arms in a pout. His soft smile only grew. “It looks exquisite on you, Diana, how do you feel in it?”
Your arms dropped from their folded position, and you glanced at a nearby mirror. You hardly recognized the woman staring back at you.
“I like it,” You answered, looking at the tall woman in the mirror. She seemed so mature for the age she looked like. And regal, she would command a room if she wanted. But that was not your reality. Drawing yourself from morose thoughts, your hands returned to your hips as you regarded him. “What do you want to see next?”
His lips twitched once more.
“Surprise me,” Your back and forth continued for at least another hour as you tried on a multiple variety of clothing. The prices continued to be outrageous and no matter your protests of trying on something so expensive, Zemo simply returned your rebuke with a raised eyebrow. You were at your wits end by the time you were trying on designer dresses that belonged on the bodies of beautiful Italian, stick thin models.
You probably said no to more dresses than yes, and you could both feel and smell the displeasure coming from where Zemo was sitting, still reading that book of his. Knowing him, he probably knew why it was taking you so long.
Eventually you got pleading looks from the women helping you and was guilted into trying on one last dress. Unfortunately, the dress they had happily pulled out not only had a high slit on the thigh, but a vast expanse of cleavage and a built-in corset. Whimpering softly, you let them zip you up in it and wiggled your feet back into the ridiculous heels before stepping up onto the pedestal.
This dress covered more of your body than the one you had worn in Madripoor, but you felt so much more exposed. Probably because of what it accentuated. Your entire left leg felt like it was exposed, and you could guess that with one swift breeze, people would be getting an eyeful of your thong.
“Did you finally get her into one?” You heard Zemo’s questioned float through the air. Nope. No way was he going to see you in this.
“No! Absolutely not! You stay exactly where you are!” You blurted out in a panic. You had kept a level head with your emotions, so far that is. But there was no way you would keep it cool if he saw you like this.
“What? I’ve been looking at your outfits all afternoon, Draga, how is this one any different?” His voice sounded closer and your own raised an octave.
“Zemo, I swear to—“ His patience had run out before the Baron materialized in the mirror, your eyes widened, and you jerked around on the pedestal. Freezing in place, you felt like a deer caught in headlights as you stared at him.
“Just as I thought, exquisite. They say the dress makes the woman, I disagree, it is the woman that makes the dress.” He drawled out, slowly moving forward. You flushed and held your arms to your chest. “And yet you always act so timid.”
A frustrated noise emerged from your nose and uncrossing your arms, you turned to him and tried to put on a brave face. It was hard to maintain with the way he was looking at you and the elephant you had yet to discuss. Mainly the whole ‘we had sex in Madripoor and then made out on the plane ride to Riga’ thing.
“Why are you doing this, Zemo?”
“Doing what, Maus?” Your eyes twitched and you tried not to narrow them as you gestured around you.
“This, buy me clothes, buy me that ridiculous necklace you insist I keep… help me with my stupid mistake that embarrassing enough as it is… what happened in the jet shouldn’t—“
“Shouldn’t have what, Liebling?” He pressed, taking a few more steps forward. You curled your fingers into the skirt of your dress. “Shouldn’t have happened? You shouldn’t have given in to your desires? To be pampered like every woman should be? What you felt was natural, nothing to be ashamed of.”
“I haven’t the luxury of giving in to my desires.” You spoke softly, your eyes lowering from his gaze.
“No?” Zemo countered, raising his eyebrow. “I’m giving you that luxury right now and you are still resistant.”
He was now standing directly in front of you, and even with the added height from the heels, you still felt small compared to him.
“What makes you think I am worthy of such actions.” He cocked his head to the side while his lips twitched.
“You make a point, Maus, but isn’t it my choice to decide whom I want to pamper?” Point granted, Zemo, point granted… but you were getting nowhere. Zemo lifted a hand and took a strand of your hair between his fingers “Tell me, Diana, why are you so resistant to me? You go out of your way to be disobedient, you fight against yourself, fight against what has been given to you. Even if it’s in your best interest.”
“I had an authority problem long before the designations came about. Why are you so interested in the first place?” You threw back, a little more hostile than necessary. “I am no one, Zemo, I am just a broken Beta that everyone is waiting to snap again.”
A barely audible chuckle passed through his curvy lips as darkness descended into those warm brown eyes.
“We both know that’s a lie, Liebling.” He was dangerously close now, so close you could feel the warmth from his skin and hear his heart steady as a drum. You wanted to bury your face in his chest and drown yourself in his scent. “You are far from broken; you just want someone who understands. Who can recognize that while you project the picture of perfection, inside your mind is a woman begging for someone to notice how much life has hurt you, and is continuing to do so.”
Icy tendrils of worry and fear burrowed their way into your heart, and you shivered, not liking the look of understanding in his eyes. It was almost like he knew what you were doing to yourself to feel normal, to have an ounce of control. That you would gladly be slowly killing yourself if it meant you had control. Nerves fluttered in your belly like butterflies trapped by glass, wings beating over and over again, only to remain in place.
“And you think you are that someone? Zemo—” You paused, seeing irritation in his eyes at using his last name; you automatically corrected yourself out of not wanting him displeased. “Helmut,” His eyes gaze shifted to a pleased look, echoing deep desire and want. “I am better off alone, that’s just—that’s how I need to live my life.”
“Is that what you really feel? I can tell when someone is lying, Liebling, you are only making things harder for yourself.” Zemo countered, his head tilting inquisitively, the corner of his mouth twitched. He was a persistent man, you knew that. You drew in another shaky breath and tried to remain strong. Time to try another tactic to get him to leave it be.
“I don’t want you.” You stated clearly. Zemo’s gaze didn’t waver, and you now felt like you had been trapped into one choice, admit the complete truth. You clamped your mouth shut, biting on your lip to cease further words that would only pull you deeper into his trap. It was a desperate attempt to remain segregated, hidden, safe in your harbor of control.
But you both knew the truth.
The corner of his mouth tilted, and you knew this discussion was over. The last thing you saw on his face before he was moving, was that infuriating eyebrow lift and predatory smile. You tripped backwards at his sudden movement, but before you could fall, or even flail at the sudden disorienting motion, hands were shoving you back against the mirrors you had been staring into.
Cold mirror pressed into your back and as you were gasping out in shock, Zemo dipped his head and roughly mashed his lips against yours. Surprise lasted only milliseconds before need and want clawed their way to the surface and your hands reached for his coat. Your nails sunk into the fabric, wanting, and needing, Zemo be as close to your body as you could get him.
Zemo let out a chuckle against your lips before biting at your lower lip and giving it a soft tug. You let out a soft moan and yanked on his jacket, stretching up on your toes to chase the sharp mouth ravishing yours. His kisses continued to be sharp, echoing his clear displeasure at your opinion of yourself. But you would not back down and submit to his kisses without a fight.
Growling beneath your breath, you reached up with a hand and slipped your fingers into his neatly combed hair. You tugged sharply on the chocolate strands, raking your nails across his scalp and pushed back against his aggressive action. Your mouths parted against each other, and you nearly caved beneath the heat and taste of him.
But you were a very stubborn Omega, hence why you were masquerading as a Beta, and you would not give in that easily. Further winding your fingers through his hair, you pulled hard, breaking your mouths apart and dove in to press a line of kisses along his jawline. The scent of sandalwood and jasmine wafted into your nose and that only increased your greediness to explore his skin. You wanted it all and you were sure that you would never get sick of the scent.
With your lips brushing across Zemo’s jawline, you took in a deep breath to inhale as much of his natural scent. Gods you wanted to smother yourself in it. You dragged your lips from his jaw to his neck and couldn’t help but run your tongue across the spot the lucky woman (or man, you didn’t discriminate) would sink their teeth into to mark their territory. That drew out a delicious groan from him and caused a purr to rumble deep within your chest. You could only smother your natural instincts so much.
But with your teasing came the end of Zemo’s patience. His hand darted up and wrapped around your wrist before wrenching your fingers from his hair and slamming it against the mirror beside your head. You let out a grunt from the force. Staring into Zemo’s soft brown eyes, you felt another shiver run up your spine at the look in his eye. Then the corner of his mouth curved upward triumphantly, and you knew that he knew you had finally broken.
His hand darted up into your hair and your lips were promptly dragged back to his, only this time he made sure he was in charge. Punishing kisses hard to keep up with, a hunger in his own actions that told you this was far from one sided, and that burning feeling in your chest that screamed at you: More! More! MORE!
You softly moaned beneath his dominance and clawed at his chest with your free hand, raking your nails down that luxurious sweater of his. You was sure he could feel the sharp points of your nails through the fabric, but your actions only seemed to spur him on further. Zemo slipped his fingers from your hair and dropped his hand to the scandalous slit on your left leg.
Warm fingers pressed into your chilled skin, caressing your skin and massaging themselves in an upwards motion. Then they traced the line of the thong you wore, and you couldn’t help but arch your back. Zemo dragged his lips from yours, drawing a small mewl from your stinging lips before he dipped his head and planted his mouth against your heaving cleavage.
The heat from his mouth against your skin was nearly unbearable, and then Zemo licked a line up the curve of your breast that your dress didn’t cover. Gasping, your body erupted with chills that raced across your skin rapidly turning every cell in your body into a place of sweltering bliss. You were so hot and so cold, the two temperatures fighting over which one reigned in your body. You were consumed.
The wrist he had pinned to the mirror jerked against his hold as you whimpered quietly. Zemo shushed your soft utterances, nuzzling your electrified skin and whispering your whines away with indiscernible assurances in his mother tongue. You bit your lip at the desire building deep within your body and the light scent of arousal that wafted in the air incriminatingly.
Zemo’s lips finally sealed over a section of your skin, his mouth sucking a mark into the side of your breast. You strained against his unbreakable grip, your body lifting from the mirror to twist against his, hushed moans barely escaping your pressed lips. But his mouth teasing you wasn’t enough for him, because while you were nearly overwhelmed with his mouth, his fingers were tantalizingly tracing your hip in swirling patterns.
 Your body was working itself up into a frenzy, just from his light touches, and your thong getting wetter with each passing second. Oh my God, this man was lethal. You wanted him like nothing you had before, with frightening desperation. Want was turning to need.
When teeth sank into your skin, you couldn’t help the small yelp that passed through your lips. Fearing that one of the attendants would come investigating the sounds coming from the changing room, you released his shirt and slapped your hand across your mouth. The sting from the bite was soothed by a tongue, but only for a moment, that dastardly mouth was now on your neck, pulling on your skin once more.
He was leaving marks were everyone could see.
Fire blazed beneath your skin at the thought and instincts had you wrapping one of your long legs around his hip and pulling his body infinitely closer to yours. Your pelvises crashed together and that drew a groan from him. A low growl rumbled in Zemo’s chest and lips tore free from your neck.
Dark eyes met yours and a quiver went up your spine at the look in them. Removing your hand from your mouth, you slid your fingers up his neck to the nape of his neck and forced his mouth back down to yours, chasing after those dizzying kisses. At your demand for more, Zemo’s mouth turned ferocious, savoring every response your body made to his actions.
Never enough, it was never enough, and that idea scared you shitless. But you couldn’t stop, not even as the oxygen in your lungs slowly ran out from rabid kisses and your refusal to part from your fervent lip lock.
It was only when the voices of the attendants floating through the closed curtain, that you parted, and by then you were panting for air and shaking slightly, nearly limp as a cooked noddle. Zemo, luckily, held you pinned to the mirror, releasing your wrist to brush a section of your hair that had fallen from your bun, behind your ear.
While you stared up into his now gentle brown eyes, Zemo leaned forwards and pressed a light dusting of kisses across your flushed cheeks. Your heavy breathing faded and still the kisses continued, trailing across your cheek bone to the skin beneath your ear. Then you heard him respond to your last spoken words: I don’t want you.
“We both know you do.”
Return of The King - Part 4
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 AO3
Eddie closed the back door quietly behind him and sat down in one of the lawn chairs, tipping his head up and staring at the scattered passing clouds as he smoked.
He could hear muffled conversation and an awful lot of tears from the house behind him and it nearly made him want to cry himself. There was so much relief filling him up both from Steve being back and finally getting to do what he’d been planning to do to him since he first got to know him but also that the healing within the Fellowship could begin. He just hoped it didn’t damage anyone further.
He had no idea how he was going to do it. How the both of them were going to do it. How on earth were they going to tell all these extremely broken people that the reason they were broken wasn't a reason anymore. That he was back? And how were they going to explain that he was back different but not bad?
It could go so very wrong.
But maybe it would be enough comfort to them to know that Robin was talking again. Hell, not even just that she was talking again but that she was even… conscious again. That she was existing in the world again rather than around it.
He must have been ruminating in his own head for at least a half an hour vacillating in between smoking and worrying about the fallout of all this and watching the clouds and feeling that giggly excitement that comes with a new relationship and all the things they had left to do to each other and experience together when the door creaked open behind him and a pair of thin arms wound their way around his shoulders.
“You’ve been hoarding him.” Robin’s voice came soft and thick from the floods of tears she’d no doubt shared with Steve inside.
“Hoarding, Buckley?” He reached up to grasp her wrist. His heart was soaring. It was so good to hear her voice again. “I wouldn’t call it that. Though I suspect my Stevie exclusivity is coming to an end now that he has you back in his life.”
She hummed into his hair and tightened her arms around him, gently rocking the two of them back and forth as much as she could without toppling them over. “If I was gonna share him with anyone, I’m happy for it to be you.”
Eddie smiled to himself and tipped his head back onto her shoulder. “Awh, you’re gonna make me all misty eyed.”
“Join the club,” she let out a wet laugh, rubbing her eyes against his shirt, “it’s what the rest of us are doing.”
“Where is the man of the hour anyway?”
“He’s giving us space to say my ‘thank yous’ for taking care of me and everyone else for the last month or whatever.”
“Ah.”
“So like, thanks or whatever.” She whispered, her levity coming through clearly despite her humour.
“Not a problem, Buckaroo.”
She gave him one last squeeze and placed a kiss against the side of his head before disappearing back inside.
Eddie followed not long after, desperate for a shower and to finally get back into his own jeans. The pair he was wearing last night hadn’t been his favourite but they were a worthy sacrifice especially considering just how they were destroyed. How Steve's supernaturally strong hands had effortlessly gripped onto the tough denim and ripped them clean in two right below him, all the little noises he'd managed to work out of him with his tongue and his hips as he'd slowly, torturously slowly, sunk in-
He turned the shower water icy cold, he needed to keep his head clear for the next few hours ahead and he definitely wouldn’t be able to do that if the only think that was knocking around his brain was the continued idea of fucking around with Steve.
When he came back downstairs, he and Robin sat Steve down and tried to summarise everything that had happened in the last month. The complete and utter fuckery that the California crew went through, Joyce and Murray’s little vacation to the Soviet Union where, oh yeah, Hopper was alive but imprisoned, the cracks in the earth that had split the second Steve died, inadvertently saving Max from mutilation, the wide open gates that creatures would crawl through every so often, the fact that Hawkins was half abandoned, his parents…
It was a lot to take in and Steve took it all surprisingly well, almost like he’d been waiting for some catastrophic events to hit Hawkins for a few years now.
The next challenge that was presented to him was just how they were going to tell everyone. If they just sprung Steve on them out of nowhere it would be disastrous. They could all collapse into grief, they could run scared, they could attack him, believing him to be some fucked up trick of Vecna’s, there was so many things that could go wrong.
At the very least Wayne was going to be out of the house for the rest of the day so he couldn’t accidentally get caught in the crossfire.
Eddie sat at his kitchen table bouncing his leg so quickly his whole body was jiggling. Robin and Steve had helped him write out what to tell the others over the walkie to get them to arrive.
It wasn’t easy.
He needed them to know that it wasn’t a world ending Code Red but at the same time wasn’t it? Steve was back and that was a huge thing on its own but definitely didn’t warrant sending them all into a blind panic and putting them on edge, especially when the thing that was waiting for them was enough to implode everyone in the worst ways possible if handled incorrectly.
So he had to tell them it was urgent without skyrocketing everyone’s collective stress levels.
“Eds, it’ll be fine.” Steve tried to soothe him as the three of them sat waiting. He had a gentle grip on the back of Eddie’s neck, rubbing his thumb in small circles. It wasn’t working. “What’s the worst that could happen?”
Eddie and Robin shared a look for a long moment while Steve glanced between them.
“Okay, I don’t love this,” he said, pointing to each of them in turn, “whatever this is.”
“D’you think you’d be able to dodge a bullet if it came down to that, Stevie?” Eddie asked from behind his hair with his head hung low.
“Nance wouldn’t shoot me.”
“Yes she would.” They answered at the same time.
“She’s gonna think you’re some Vecna trick like I did.”
Robin nodded, agreeing. “Yeah, and you can’t fuck the doubt out of her like you did with Eddie.”
Eddie lifted his head just a fraction to glare at her but she didn’t back down, just raised her eyebrow.
“That’s not what happened.”
“No?”
“No, I wouldn’t have let him fuck me if I still thought he was the spawn of Satan.”
Robin scoffed with a cheeky smirk on her face. “That’s a lie. But maybe it’ll be Hopper who’ll try to shoot you, Steve.” She blinked innocently over to him. “You could try to fuck some sense into him?”
“Robin.” Steve hissed, his whole face turning red.
“You had a thing for Hopper?” Eddie couldn’t help the shit eating grin that started to pull at his mouth, quickly joined by Robin as Steve tried to glare at the two of them with as much venom as possible.
“You never heard those words come out of my mouth.”
“No, but Robbie insinuated which is as good as a confession.”
“I hate the both of you.”
Eddie and Robin shot to their feet, cooing and crowding around Steve, squeezing him tight in between the two of them with a downight dramatic level of sarcastic comfort and affection. Steve just scowled harder but wormed his arms around the two of them squeezing back, unable to hide the upward curl at the corner of his mouth.
They only broke away from their mocking ‘you love us’ ‘you looooove uuusss’ when they both felt Steve tense under their arms.
“They’re here.”
Eddie shot to his feet, his adrenaline and anxiety coursing through his whole body. He needed to move, he needed to get it all out somehow. Fuck this was it. Everything was about to change. Again.
God, it could all go so wrong.
But it could be so good too.
It could fix everything.
“Are you hidden?”
Steve nodded. “Yeah. Only you and Robin can see me.”
“Okay good, you know them, they'll just burst in-”
No sooner had the words left his mouth than the front door was thrown open and a gaggle of teenagers spilled into his hallway. Eddie felt a short kiss be pressed to the back of his head, just a silent reminder I’m here before he took a deep breath in and tried to steady himself as best he could.
There wasn’t the usual noise and chaos that used to be so normal with the kids, there were no childish arguments or rapid fire discussions. They filed into his house quietly and without bluster, each finding a spot to sit around the dining table or lean against a kitchen cabinet looking at him expectantly, barely sending a glance in Robin’s direction who had marginally retreated back into herself. Whether it was the pressure of the situation or so many people around he didn’t know. He couldn’t really blame her or the group for their reactions.
Steve was staring around at all of them with wide eyes, like he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. But instead of any kind of delight or smugness or smart remark about finally getting them to quieten down, he looked heartbroken. Like he hadn’t realised just how changed everyone was.
“Well?” Nancy snapped. Short and eager to get to the point as she always was these days and Eddie could never hold it against her.
He realised he’d been watching Steve’s reaction too closely. It probably looked like he was staring off into space while they all filled in around him.
So he took a deep breath in and began.
“Okay, uh,” he started to thread his fingers through his hair, picking out individual curls and twisting them, anything to keep his hands occupied, “it’s not bad news. It’s actually good news, or it might not be good news depending on how you view it and how we had to get here, but it’s news! I’m gonna be honest, I’m having a bit of trouble trying to figure out how to tell you all because it’s gonna be really hard to swallow at first-“
“Eddie.” Dustin interrupted, his voice lacking its youthful energy and his face as grim as it had been for the last month. “Does Robin really need to be here for this?”
Robin startled at the mention of her name and seemed confused for a second. Eddie supposed it was a fair question, Robin hadn’t exactly been present in the last month and the rest had mostly gotten used to talking like she wasn’t in the room. Most of the time she wasn’t, really.
Eddie looked over at her along with Dustin who’s eyes widened at the sight of any emotion on her face apart from blank despair.
She looked up to meet Eddie’s eyes and gave a small nod. The whole room seemed to have caught the tiny movement, automatically straightening up and becoming much more engaged. Because if it was something that had the power to pull Robin out of the pit of her mind, it must be something extreme.
“Get on with it.”
“I’m trying, Nance, but this is actually very nerve wracking-”
Nancy glared at him, hard and cold. None of the warmth he’d seen in her before was present now and it hadn’t been for a while. She crossed her arms before speaking in a very stern tone of voice.
“Eddie, I don’t have time to waste with this bull-” she stopped herself short, swallowing harshly before continuing, “with this nonsense. So just-”
“It’s Steve.” He blurted out before he could stop himself, sudden and loud and impossibly catastrophic.
Silence crashed in around all of them in the wake of his statement, filled with so much tension he could feel it tingling against his skin. They were all staring at him, some with anger, some with devastation and some with just blank expressions that hurt more than anything.
The sound of a chair scraping against his tiled floor screeched loudly through the kitchen, almost too loud to bear. Dustin stood and without a backwards glance, began to walk away.
Eddie opened his mouth to call after him, his heart breaking in two but before he could say anything a voice made itself known from behind him.
“Dustin!” Steve called out to him, cracking through the air in the kitchen like a hammer against stone.
The air was sucked out of the room like they’d all entered a vacuum chamber. Dustin stopped dead and the silence that permeated around all of them felt both fragile and immovable at the same time.
The delicate click of a gun being cocked echoed around them and there was a heartbeat where nothing happened before the room erupted into chaos.
Eddie whipped around but it wasn’t Nancy that had drawn her weapon, it was Hopper. He couldn't even make the appropriate salacious jokes at Steve's expense about that because such a panic had gripped him at the room's collective response, he found himself frozen solid.
This wasn't going well.
Shit.
Shit!
Robin threw herself in between Steve and Hopper with her hands out, screaming at him to wait!
Everyone else looked a mix in between terrified and shocked. Like Vecna himself had just manifested in front of them, Max and Lucas were shouting, their heads ping ponging between Steve and Hopper, Mike and Will were shouting questions at Eddie. Joyce had pulled Will back, trying to push him behind her, Jonathan and Argyle were trying to stand defensively in front of Joyce but Jonathan also had a hand fisted in the back of Nancy’s shirt, who was pulling a pistol out of her bag, El was staring up at Steve, silent and considering, Erica oh god Erica was crying, she was just a child, Hopper was barking at the kids and Robin to stand down and Dustin…
Dustin hadn’t moved. He still had his back turned to everyone, both fists clenched so tight the colour had left his knuckles.
“Shut up!” He screamed, high pitched and cracking, somehow making himself heard over the cacophony of noise that swiftly came to a halt at the sound of his voice.
Steve had an arm around Robin’s waist, having pulled her out of the line of fire while she scrambled against his immeasurable strength to try and get back in front of the barrel of the gun but he too froze at the sound.
Dustin took a deep breath in. “Eddie. What makes you so sure?”
Eddie looked in between Steve and Dustin. What could he say? He couldn’t exactly tell everyone what had transpired in the last twelve hours, he definitely wasn’t going to mention the sex. What had originally convinced him? Would it be enough?
“He…” Eddie swallowed. Somehow he’d never felt more vulnerable than right now, every single eye in the room was on him and he had the power to make or break everything. “He laughed at me? I insulted Vecna to his face and he… he thought it was funny.”
It sounded stupid, it sounded so stupid when he said it out loud. He couldn’t even bear to look up at them all to see how that explanation landed.
After a few seconds of heavy silence, El spoke up.
“What was your insult?”
Eddie glanced at her, she had her head tilted slightly to the side and her face was calm but curious. “I, uh, I called him a lump of unseasoned bolognese.”
“A dickless lump.” Steve interjected, a small smile on his face despite the tension in the room. Like a spell had been cast through the group at the sight of that smile, the strain on them seemed to lessen. Steve probably didn’t even realise he was doing it, there was just something about him now, something about his smile brought calm to them all. Maybe he’d always been that way. Eddie couldn’t really be sure.
Dustin whirled around and stomped his way over to Steve, the rest of the group parting like the Red Sea for him.
He stared up at Steve, an angry tilt to his brow and his jaw set, like he was ready to punch him in the face if he moved wrong.
“How many puffs?”
Eddie supposed the question must have been some kind of test, he certainly didn’t know the answer to whatever the fuck had just been asked, and no one else around him seemed to know either. No one else except for Steve.
“Four.”
Dustin’s lip quivered for just a second before he gathered himself, slamming his eyes shut again and turned his face away.
“El.” He called over his shoulder.
“Dust-” Steve started, reaching out, but was cut off.
“No!” Dustin yanked his shoulder away, his voice sharp and cutting. “I can’t- St-” swallowing harshly he continued a little quieter. “I need to be sure before I can- I need to be sure.”
Steve retracted his hand slowly, letting it fall to his side where it was quickly snatched up by Robin.
“Okay.”
El took a step forward but was halted by Hopper’s hand on her shoulder.
“We don’t know if this is safe.”
“I’ve been inside Vecna’s head.” El took her fathers hand and gently lifted it away. “If Steve is an agent of Vecna he will not be as strong. This is not the most dangerous thing I have ever done.”
“And that makes this okay, does it?”
“What else would you rather do?”
Hopper scowled at her, the downward tilt of his mouth making it clear he didn’t have an answer.
“I still don’t like it.”
“You don’t have to like it.”
El stepped out of Hopper’s space and towards Steve, holding her hands out and waiting.
Steve nodded down at her before leaning forwards, effectively slotting his head carefully in between her hands and they both closed their eyes.
For two and half long, long minutes the room collectively held its breath, waiting in anticipation for her to draw down her verdict.
Eddie was sure as shit that he hadn’t had sex with Vecna in Steve’s body but god damn if the thought still didn’t make his skin crawl.
El’s brow furrowed and her grip tightened around Steve’s head as though she was trying to burrow her fingers into his skull. Steve grimaced as she dug in hard but held himself steady, his hand still clutched in Robin’s.
Dustin had moved to stand beside Eddie, staring wide eyed at the scene before him. Eddie had never seen him look so young, so small, so lost. He slung an arm around his shoulder and pulled him back towards his chest, holding him firm, trying to impart comfort in any way he could. Dustin sagged into him, barely holding on by a thread.
A small hand slipped into his. Erica refused to look at him but the shake of her hand and her silent tongue told him all he needed to know. For all her bravado and all her snark she was still the baby of the group and by a long shot too. While she protected herself and made herself seen with her attitude, it often made them forget that she was barely out of elementary school.
In some ways she was the biggest victim of all of this, no one else had been thrust into this apocalypse as young as Erica Sinclair.
And based on the little he had heard about how she had gotten introduced to all this, Steve was there. Steve, Robin and Dustin were the ones around trying to keep her safe against some kind of underground Russian spy operation or something. No wonder she was affected by all this.
Eddie pulled her back towards him too, his other arm around her shoulders, all three of them huddled in close together, watching and waiting.
“There’s something else there.” El muttered as her fingers relaxed, gently combing through the parts of Steve’s hair she’d messed up. “This is Steve. You are Steve. You are here. But there is something else here too.”
Steve’s face paled just a fraction. “Vecna’s not in my head.”
“No, it’s not Vecna, it’s something else. A cloud.”
“A good cloud?”
“No.”
The tension in the room ramped straight back up.
“A b- a bad cloud then?”
“No. It’s just a cloud, but pushed and tugged. Made into long legs-”
“The Mind Flayer?!” Will shrieked out in a burst of panic.
“El, is he Flayed?” Joyce asked, somehow calm but straight to the point.
“No. No it’s not like-” not like Billy. “The Flayed were Vecna. Vecna puppeteering The Mind Flayer. This little bit in his head… it’s free.”
“So he’s…” Dustin huffed, his voice cracking again. “El, please, in plain English? Is he safe? Is he Steve? Is he- is he back?”
El nodded. “He is safe, he is Steve, he is back.”
She barely had the words out of her mouth before Dustin had ripped himself away from Eddie to throw himself at Steve. Steve unwound himself from around Robin quicker than should have been possible to be able to catch Dustin in time but catch him he did.
“You- you died. You died! You told me you loved me then you just went and died on me like an asshole. How could you- please, please don’t ever do that again. Swear to me, I can’t… I can’t-” Dustin was screaming, wailing into Steve’s neck, the sound echoing loudly around the room while everyone simultaneously tried not to intrude on their moment while not being able to bear the thought of leaving Steve.
“I know, I’m so sorry, Dusty. I’m so sorry. Never again, I swear on your mother.” Steve tried for humour but even he couldn’t push past all the emotion in his voice. “Never again.” He had his own face buried into Dustin’s hair, his arms wound tight around him, unable to keep his voice from wobbling.
Once Dustin had stopped screaming and cursing and was able to take a few deep breaths, he loosened his arms slightly, allowing Steve to glance up towards the other kids.
It was all the invitation Max needed.
She threw herself against Steve and Dustin, clutching on to them for dear life. She had barely made contact before the rest of the kids were rushing forward, grabbing onto any piece of Steve or each other they could reach.
Dustin unwound an arm from around Steve’s neck, opening his body up, looking back towards Eddie and Erica.
She shot forward, being pulled right into the centre of the group hug, right up against Dustin, Steve and Robin.
Robin still had herself pressed in close, her arms around Erica and Dustin while the kids all muttered and cried and punched and breathed. They told Steve they couldn’t lose him again, they practically fell all over themselves to tell him how much they appreciated him, how important he was, the guilt at thinking him dead and having never told him how much he meant had been eating away at all of them for a solid month. They even turned to Robin and told her how happy it made them to have her back too. They’d missed their Aunt Buckley.
That started a fresh round of tears from everyone.
Movement to his side caught Eddie’s eye. Nancy was standing a little bit away, pale faced and swallowing repeatedly, trying to keep her emotions in check. She looked like she was desperate to throw herself into the fray but didn’t know if she’d be welcome, didn’t know if she was allowed.
Her eyes were shining and her mouth was tight as Eddie approached her. He took her hand in his and pulled her forward. She turned her wide gaze on him as he led her closer, scared and apprehensive but Steve raised his head and held his own hand out to her. Will and Mike almost immediately shifted to the side, pulling her into the group with them.
In a big rush, I've caught up to RDCH manhwa, up to chapter 92.
There's a lot that happened. As always, the pace is breakneck, haha. Anyway, there's a few points I wanted to note.
First, I appreciate the respect for just punching someone in the face. This is why I respect SQH the most as Lostbelt King, because at the end of LB3, they go to punch it out with Chaldea. Here, in chapter 85, Hugo punches it out with Taurus and it's great. And then, Libra also eventually resorts to just directly punching Lee Geon, which is hilarious.
Speaking of Libra, she's done a bang up job as a villain. Very funny that she stripped at the end to the same level as Lee Geon. Even her top! In general, I feel like... this manhwa really has a foot fetish. The guys always lose their shirts, sure, but they also lose everything below the knee too, only keeping their hulk modesty shorts. But you also get Yooha losing her boots, while her jeans are otherwise fine, so it feels like they just really wanted to get her barefoot lol (Speaking of Yooha, I wonder if they're going to circle back to the evil god in her arms, or if this is it and it'll be considered that she's gotten control of it.)
Speaking of Hugo, the first couple chapters after the manhwa restarted were quite rough, since it was more flashbacks of Suffering(tm). Hugo really lives a different genre than everyone else sometimes, rip. I do like how he goes wild against Taurus. He and Lee Geon are very similar sometimes. They can have a similar mean sense of humor, and occasionally Hugo enjoys battle in a similar way.
There were also some moments for Yooha, Steven, Kevin... feels like a fairly okay support cast, which I like. Though of course, Lee Geon is the only useful one, haha
That said, the big ending for the Libra arc felt pretty cohesive. I can't really complain about the direction.
There are several interesting points that were elucidated. First, Lee Geon's moral compass is sometimes a bit hard to pin down, but he pretty directly states what he is opposed to: disregarding "the safety of others." Everything else is whatever, but people shouldn't be put in danger meaninglessly.
(In my fanfic concept development, this would mean... you can tell he loses it if he puts innocent people in danger. But for additional consideration, Lee Geon is not at all shy about going to down on anyone who crosses him and directly threatens murder in the novel. So you could say him losing it would come from the direction of starting to see innocent people as having wronged him. Hehehe)
Second, there's an interesting... hm, undercurrent? that is introduced here. Steven says that he is willing to sacrifice "everything Leo has accumulated" because otherwise humanity will lose "everything they've accumulated" in bold text. At the same time, Libra tries to claim that this world belongs to the divine gods, while "Baron Helmet" said the same for the unknown civilization when they invaded. There's this concept of accumulating resources or taking them by force.
Third, they also bring up several times that "the weak don't even get the right to choose" and "only the strong get to ask questions," which... is certainly in line with a battle series, but... yeah. Yooha does angle Leo's ideal of the strong survive as "the strong have a duty to protect the weak," and in a sense, all the weak people "choose" Lee Geon, which you can interpret as flashback Steven being wrong. But still... it's all good to say that Ophiuchus respects those who are willing to put everything on the line to become stronger, but most people simply do not have the necessary potential or opportunity. All they can do is choose who to pray to, but this assumes that there is a good choice to begin with. It's all a kind of concept that I don't really like, though I won't say that it's incoherent or anything.
Anyway, all that said, the last chapter for now is really something. Ah, Lee Geon making that face, damn... We finally see him get a bit stripped down emotionally. Yes, give me that backstory to add to my Lee Geon microwave spinning.
MY THOUGHTS ON THE 4TH AND FINAL SEASON OF TUA: SPOILERS AHEAD
Sharing just cause I need to get it off my chest. I haven't shared opinions on TV shows in a while because most new stuff is just so uninteresting but I've watched this show since s1 first came out, almost. Opinions will be all over the place, don't feel like ordering them per episode.
Season was too short, everyone is well aware of it, but the storyline was so cluttered that it just didn't hit the same
Character motivation and characterization of everyone was all over the place in general. Why are we wasting a whole episode on a coupling no one was going to like? Why is the family split up for the majority of this final season?
I hate pretty much everyone's ending. Luther should have been given Viktor's storyline with Reggie to have his dilemma come full circle. I enjoyed him having a bit more comedic relief as opposed to his annoying attitude in the earlier seasons but there is so much he could have done besides being comedic fodder with Diego. Like, hello, he had a wife that went missing and I guess he never actually looked for her? Or he did and he gave up and got over it just like that? I wouldn't know since she was mentioned twice and only in a wistful tone as if she died. Put him with Reggie to resolve his daddy issues finally. Literally anything else. Diego spent the season in an unappy marriage with a shitty job, essentially chasing his glory days once again and he died with zero closure with his wife and the mother of his children. Allison's husband left her and she fell back into old patterns with her daughter and never really made up with her family and none of her issues are resolved. Klaus spent the season with a pointless villain who took up way too much screentime. Five took his brother's wife and was entirely out of character this season. Why is he nice guying after Lila when there is an apocalypse around the corner? Ben died having done literally nothing this season. None of his self conciousness was resolved, there was no real depth given to him and his storyline with Jennifer came and went. Viktor spent the entirety of the season with Reggie for some reason when really he should have been reconsiling with his family and mending his relationship with them. Lila died on the outs with her husband and in a weird "relationship" with her brother-in-law and also being entirely out-of-character. It's truly a disservice to everyone in the maincast.
I didn't mind the ending in general, I figured they would have to sacrifice themselves to fix everything they fucked up once and for all. I only question how Claire, Grace, Coco, and Carlos are alive even if they were "saved" by the trainstation. Their parents never existed and therefore they shouldn't either.
Wish they would have explored the trainstation more. It's a cool device but where did it come from and why now?
Gene and Jean were such wasted villains. Again, blaming it on the season being too short and too much focus on unnecessary storylines but the concept was there, they just squandered it.
What was the point of Reggie and Abigail? What is Abigail's real motivation? Is she evil or just ambivilent towards it all? I guess I enjoy that she wanted to fix her mistake but why wouldn't they give these two at least a flashback to show where they came from and how they got here?
The vibes this season in genral were off and I can't totally explain why despite the season being rushed and too short.
I honestly tuned out during the whole Five and Lila thing because, yeah, it was gross and it sucked and it ruined three great characters. I'm honestly moreso just questioning Lila as a mother. I get she was unhappy with Diego, I figured this would happen once they got married and became parents, but she genuinely seemed to love her kids. So when she gets lost in a subway for seven years she should be fighting like hell to get back to her kids instead of fucking her brother-in-law, right? Right?!
My favorite part was honestly the relationship that Klaus had with Claire. It just feels to me like everyone else was so far removed from her for some reason despite most of them being close enough to show up to Grace's birthday party?
The stakes were there but they essentially poofed away by the end of episode five.
I liked the ending to be honest, it was pretty serene and again, I think it makes sense for them to die to save the world, since they are the reason the world keeps ending. It was also nice to see the continuation of characters we saw appear throughout the series (minus Ray and the Sparrows).
Also enjoyed getting to see a young Umbrella Academy one last time.
All in all the season was not good, but I enjoyed getting to see the cast and characters again, even if they weren't entirely themselves. Also the ending wasn't horrible, so that's sometimes. I think it could have been made infinitely better if they had taken more time and if they had maybe tried to get up to ten episodes to mellow everything out and properly end everyone's storylines in a more satisfying way.
A Nearly Sleepless Night
Modern!Sherlock x Reader
(yes, it's got a truth potion plot point.)
Tumblr media
(Y/n)’s peaceful slumber was rudely interrupted by the telltale ringing of her cell. Blindly reaching to the charging device she barely managed to get a look at the caller ID before she groggily slapped it against her ear.
“What on earth are doing calling me at-” I lift up the phone, eyes tearing up due to how bright my screen was. “-2 A.M. John?” I mumbled into the receiver.
“It’s Sherlock, he needs you.” Johns voice crackled over the line, a worried twinge entering his voice at the last two syllables.
But I was too fogged with sleep to notice “Unless he’s dying, he doesn’t need me.”
“I’m really sorry to wake you up (Y/n). But he won't. Stop. TALKING. I'm at my wit's end! He was out on some mad errand and now he's at my home and divulging anything that's come across his mind!" Said John.
"Oh, dear." I said the claws of sleep slowly loosening it's grasp on me. "Tell me poor Mary wasn't anywhere near him…"
"No, thank God. She's asleep, but he's getting louder, and in all honesty I don't know how long this will last." John that thread of worry turning into a full blown tapestry.
I sighed, knowing just what I was going to sacrifice. Just what my dear old friend was alluding to. But I had to give a good night's rest one last try.
"John, do you love me?" I asked pitifully.
"Not that much I'm afraid." Said John, an air of relief in his teasing tone.
I huffed "Fine. Bring the twat over! You owe me a great deal for this."
And just like that, my night was sleepless.
John brought over Sherlock in less than ten minutes after the call. He was unceremoniously shoved into my home without another word, John left. That is where the fun began.
“Sit down on the couch Sherlock so I can look you over”, I commanded.
And like a puppet on strings he rather oddly walked over to my couch and sat down. I shook it off as soreness from a beating he surely had gotten.
His button up and jeans were wrinkled and dirty. Any semblance of his usual leather jacket was nowhere to be seen. He had a split lip, and what looked like a developing shiner. His hair was ruffled and looked a little burnt. All in all he looked like hell. But what really startled me is what came out of his mouth next.
"You look very pretty when you're concerned. About me that is." He blurted.
To be perfectly honest he looked as surprised as I felt. Afterwards he rather promptly (and childishly) slapped his hand over his mouth. A series of muffled mumbles following.
"Aside from that Sherlock, what on earth happened to you? I thought you weren't taking that case with the mob ties." I said, a little disappointed he went against my back for this.
"I lied, I didn't want you getting involved. I can’t stand seeing you-” And back went the hand, a slight blush painting his pale freckled face.
I was getting a little upset by all the mystery right about now. “Shirley if you don’t explain yourself I will tie your hands together behind you! Now stop muffling yourself, and speak to me clearly!”
Then Sherlock did something I really wasn't expecting…
He did exactly as I said.
Sherlock's hand shot from his mouth as if burnt by a hot coal.
“I can’t stand it when you get hurt. Especially when it’s because of a case I’m on.” He blurted the faint pink of his cheeks starting to redden.
I was shocked to say the very least. Only able to mumble a faint “what?” In my own shock, failing to notice Sherlock desperately trying to cover his mouth. His hand only hovering in front of his mouth. Honestly with the way he treated me most of the time. Well lets just say near constant aloofness, and dismissal of one's general opinions and ideas isn’t really grounds for growing affection. But then again, more recently he’s had moments of a strange gentleness and being unusually thoughtful.
Just last week he had fixed my beloved locket when it broke. It was honestly the most thoughtful thing I had ever seen him do. Which got me thinking thoroughly of our time together, and how protective he’s gotten over the last four months. Getting less and less forthcoming with his exploits, trying to keep me out of entire cases on occasion! Which honestly is more infuriating than anything else, he did hire me to write about his exploits after all. (Since he wasn’t really fond of the paper constantly getting details wrong.)
I looked at Sherlock, he was unusually quiet and rather fidgety. He sent an nervous glance, and though he was trying to hide it he looked very tense. But strangely still on the exact spot of the couch that he sat on when I asked him to sit on my couch.
Sherlock being the sort of person he is, usually paces or shifts from chair to chair, often room to room. Usually by this point in the conversation we would be in the kitchen or even my bathroom by this point. But here he was still as a statue, on my couch.
“Sherlock, please don't keep secrets from me. You look like you’ve been through the ringer, and you’re acting weird... Well, weirder than usual.” I said sitting next to him.
Sherlock winced, then spouted.
“It wasn’t just tied to the mob. It was a trap, I was so stupid! How did I not see something so obvious!” Sherlock puts his head in his hands. Looking defeated and frustrated.
I put my hand on his shoulder, in an effort to comfort him. I knew he hated feeling outdone, or worse out thought…
"Why don't you tell me what happened?" I asked softly.
It turns out that the “missing” man wasn't missing at all. He was a murder victim of The Vipers, a new and ruthless gang. The police had been trying to find the gang’s hideout but everytime they got close the Vipers moved and the police had to start from square one. Sherlock had been asked to be brought in, but refused because the case didn’t sound “exciting enough”. He thought that the mysterious murder he took up was related to the Vipers. He got more interested and even found the Vipers Current hideout. Unfortunately, that was exactly what the Vipers had wanted. After a heated scuffle, he was knocked out, and when he had come too there was the Viper leader. Gage Boyd, spent ten years in the clink for the murders of three fifteen year-old girls, though the police (and Sherlock, who had actually put him behind bars) believed there were more.
Gage bragged about the supposed "obedience serum" saying that he would make Sherlock tell all that he knew. Which Sherlock being himself, meant an awful lot.
"Is Steven safe?" I asked, worried for our mutual friend.
"Yes, his cover is intact. I was able to make my escape before any truly important information was wrestled from me. But it seems that their 'serum' has quite a long lasting effect…" said Sherlock, his hands fidgeting with the remnants of this shirt.
"Oh, so what you said…" I trailed off.
"Yes, it was due to the serum." He said. Refusing to look me in the eye.
"Sherlock, what were you saying before about me going on cases?" I asked, sitting next to him.
The redness in his cheeks returned full force and fidgeting but seemingly unable to move from his spot on the couch.
"W-well with what ha-happened with the last case we were on I-" He stopped for a moment, seeming to reminisce…
Ah yes the last case I was on… let's just say some nasty men got a little too close to me for comfort.
"I don't want to have you in that situation ever again. I-I don't know what I'd do with myself if you really got hurt. I lo- I love you too much for that…" he said pulling at his shirt collar, as if trying to hide the furious blush creeping down his neck.
I'm not going to lie, I was shocked. Not in a bad way mind you, because I had been harboring feelings for the scruffy detective for the last two months.
"You might not believe me Sherlock," I said then grabbed his hand, shocking him out of his crimson stupor. "But I might just love you too…"
Sherlock turned to me, a soft smile adorning his face. I nearly recoiled, this was an expression I haven’t ever seen my shrewd detective wear. But honestly it was something I could get used to.
I then remembered what time it was, and my first "order".
"Oh Sherlock I'm so sorry! You can move however you like now… and you don't have to tell me anything you don't want to. I'm so sorry for forcing any of this on you..."
Sherlock stood slowly, as if getting used to having legs all over again. After getting used to gravity again, he turned and fixed me with the softest look I had ever seen from him.
"It's… alright. I don't blame you for any of it, you didn't-couldn't have possibly known of my condition. In all honesty, I had thought the toxin would have worn off by now…" he said that defeated tone creeping in towards the end.
"Now Sher-" I was about to say 'now Sherlock don't worry about that' but to avoid ordering him around. I said "Whatever happens we'll get through this."
And so ends a nearly sleepless night.
tell me more about magic rebecca pls.
and how remy ties into it !!
Ok this a very dark idea that involves infants death and human experimentation.
Ok it kinda goes in hand with some random headcanons and random comic book lore.
So the gist is she comes back to life and wants her Revenge against the man she once loved. So she sets herself to learn all the knowledge she can already being well versed in pagan myth was easy to use magic to speed up her abilities of several lifetimes of knowledge and skills. Which leads down a dark twist path of human extermination.
What better way to destroy Essex then by creating a powerful being of both science and magic to kill him. Her experiments fail time and time again. Using various adults she tried to alter for her purpose. So she use divination to seek what she needs and her only Answer is Le Diable Blanc. Curious she eventually stumbles upon the knowledge of the old kingdom what she was able to find aided her research. Along with a phropchy of Le Diable Blanc one of many and she believes that he is the key to her revenge. So using the old kingdom Artifacts she found like a tracker for him.
Fast forward to 1891 she bumps into a time traveling Remy and the artifact she has reacts to him. But something about him is familiar. Some of his features look like they could be from her but some not so much she doesn’t understand but is unable to confirm anything because he leaves just as fast he comes. Only thing she knows is his Name Remy LeBeau.
Couple decades later she is working as nurse in a New Orleans hospital. Collecting samples and dying patients that no one will miss. It’s sometime in the 1940s and she has helped delivered a baby for the LeBeau family. Official story the husband Jean-Luc is away at war. She delivers his so a beautiful little boy with fiery red hair like the mother and Red on black eyes.
Rebeca receives a vision on what she must do now to create the tool of her revenge. Using magic she keeps the baby in a permanent state of infancy and join the black womb project in disguise. Where she works closely with Essex eventually manipulating him into impregnating her with another child. Who just so happens to have Red on Black eyes as well. Both the Essex and LeBeau children are subjected to cruel experiments. Sinister doesn’t realize that it’s Rebeca until after the project is shut down and begins to hunt her down wondering who dare clone his late wife to spite him. Not knowing the truth. Wondering if the man he met in 1891 was his son or grandson fueling his obsession. Rebeca cast the spell and makes the baby frozen in time like the other. And waits a bit until she goes after two other bloodlines of Sinister’s obsession. The Summers family and Grey family who by coincidence or maybe some strings of fate being tugged go on a honey moon in New Orleans. Where they both end up at a New Orleans Hospital giving birth prematurely children. Sons with Red on Black eyes. Fate showing Rebeca that she has her last components the couples are lied to saying the babies were born to early and didn’t make it and are given false remains. It will take Rebeca another couple of years of preparation and experimenting on the permanent infants until using both science and sorcery sacrifices the children. Which fuses them into an egg like pearl. Which she then devours becoming pregnant again with none other then one and only Remy LeBeau. She uses various rituals during her pregnancy to make the baby stronger and births him in a certain hospital. That just so happens to be own and run by the very woman whose child she stole all those years ago only for the same thing to happen to her when the Thieves guild comes and kidnaps her room of Revenge right under her nose and before Sinister could come claim the child for his own putting a hitch in both their plans for Baby Remy.
And that’s what I got so far
